Official SE Title and Cover Reveal - StormClan's Folly

Stripestar has always imagined a life beyond the forest, but, as leader of ThunderClan, he knows that his duty to his clanmates comes first. When tragedy strikes and WindClan’s leader, Galestar, approaches with an offer of allyship, he swiftly accepts. But he and Galestar have history, a connection that only deepens as they continue to work together.

Galestar loves being a WindClan cat, but her relationship with Stripestar makes her question the strict Warrior code. Determined to build a family together, she and Stripestar decide to combine their Clans into one. However, StarClan refuses to approve, and vows to punish them for breaking with Clan tradition.

Stripestar and Galestar decide to leave the forest and seek new land for their Clan. But they are soon faced with the reality of life without StarClan’s guidance, sending them down a path of peril, loss, and despair. Can these cats find the way forward without StarClan, or are they doomed to a grim fate that will echo for generations to come?

Like?? This kinda fucks ngl. Secret history of the Clans causing a breakaway group, forbidden love with a "Great Betrayal," playing around with the afterlife systems and giving StormClan cats a unique connection to their ancestors...

They're even called "Storm" Clan. Storms are objectively cool as hell. The 13 year old within me is giddy with glee.

The last set of Ivypool's Heart ref sheets, and ref sheets overall (for now), are our pair of StormClan leaders! Up first is Galestar, or whatever she was calling herself when she lived with the wildcats, since she mentioned she gave up her leader name.

You can find the reverse side of her design here.

Galestar has no physical description given other than her pattern, so I came up with my own for her. As she's WindClan, I decided to go with an oriental build for her. No scars yet, as I get the feeling we might learn more about her life and what kind of battles she would have faced if there's any future books about StormClan, and I don't want to contradict anything that comes out later. No stars in her eyes, as she mentioned giving up her nine lives after joining the wildcats.

For her pattern, Galestar is described as a black-and-white she-cat. I wanted to differentiate her from cats like Tallstar by making her mostly white, and distinct from Darktail by keeping the tail mostly white. She has no canon eye color, so I went with blue, seemed to work with her name somehow.

Overall, I'm really happy with how she turned out.

I've been thinking of StormClan with the release of Ivypool's Heart, and now I'm curious about other possible clan combinations.

So I made a whole list.

I'll try to explain my naming reasons, just know I tried to keep it to the canon vocabulary so they aren't super unique.

ThunderClan

ThunderClan + WindClan - StormClan (the canon one)

ThunderClan + RiverClan - FloodClan (storms + bodies of water result in flash floods, think of Mapleshade's river and the lake in Bramblestar's Storm)

ThunderClan + ShadowClan - StrikeClan (lightning strikes and stealth attacks)

ThunderClan + SkyClan - BranchClan (lightning branches and SkyClan's tree climbing)

WindClan

WindClan + RiverClan - MistClan (water vapor lmao)

WindClan + ThunderClan - StormClan

WindClan + ShadowClan - GustClan (strong winds - this one was a little hard)

WindClan + SkyClan - QuickClan (running and tree climbing - also a hard one)

RiverClan

RiverClan + WindClan - MistClan

RiverClan + ThunderClan - FloodClan

RiverClan + ShadowClan - IceClan (I wanted to do something like AbyssClan or TrenchClan, but it just didnt fit right with warriors vocabulary, so... cold dangerous water)

For everyone hearing about StormClan and doesn't mind Ivypool's Heart spoilers, here's the details I've heard so far;

(Remember to take this with a grain of salt, as always, because this is third hand information I've collected from various spoiler threads)

This is not a major plot thread in Ivypool's Heart. It's actually quite secondary.

StormClan was created at some point after DOTC, when Galestar of WindClan and Stripestar of ThunderClan fell in love.

They combined their Clans into one and left the territory.

At some point, Galestar, Whitebreeze, Rosebush (or Shadebush) and some other guy betrayed Stripestar.

Some cats came back to reform ThunderClan and WindClan.

But not all of them came back; these remnants stayed as StormClan.

Ngl StormClan's traditions are UNIRONICALLY very cool. Instead of contacting a centric StarClan, each one has a "Spirit Guide" (a lot like my Patrons and Demons, but more personal!)

Spirit Guides give their chosen disciple a full name, and can be channeled directly when needed. VERY cool.

Sisters are a breakaway group from StormClan. Less cool, imo, I wanted them to be closer to the Tribe.

StormClan cats also tend to be aggressive, and have actually been several of the unnamed rogues across the series.

Ivypool is going to have several flashes to the StormClan founding drama, or spiritual visions, or something. Basically she's going to give us a window into the history of StormClan.

We get confirmation that fading is connected to forgetting, BUT a faded spirit can be brought back if they're remembered.

There's a big soul river thing that connects all the afterlives.

So, overall, imo this seems fun. I'm actually glad that the Erins are being a bit more creative with the afterlife systems, and this is a nice way to riff on the structure of Clans. While I am still (rightly, imo) wary of the team's ability to juggle all of these new groups, I think StormClan is an interesting addition to canon.

Between this book being “StarClan is good, all other options suck” and Changing Skies fumbling Moonpaw so badly I give up on reading this series
