Robot characters who are given names like SL-308-62 but instead of their human friend going Well let's call you Sally for short, they instead ask the other if they Like their current name.

"Do you like your serial number?" they ask. "Yes, quite. It reminds me of who I am" the robot replies. "I have heard others like me go by different names after some time, and maybe one day I'll choose one for myself, too. But right now that is my full name, yes" they continue.

Because it's not your decision to make whether or not the robot will receive a new name. It should be theirs only. What's the difference? One is more complex and the other is simplified. They were both given by strangers instead of themselves.

"62 will do," they conclude. "It's my model number - there will be no other 62 after me."

Can we just take a moment to appreciate that in 2024, here in the age of female leads who almost HAVE to be girlboss/girl power/"you hit me, I'll hit back tenfold", we got a heroine like Roz???

Relentlessly kind, refusing to harm, even taking up the mantle of motherhood - which in this day and age so many dismiss as some "lesser" calling. But she is still FAR from weak. It just happens to be that her strength shows itself in kindness and selflessness, not revenge or an epic battle where she takes down the big, bad baddie on her own. "Oh but that's just her programming." Perhaps. But of all the programming she does override in the story, she doesn't let go of that. Even though she's told over and over again that it's not the way the world works.

And yet she's not a flawless hero of the people either! She says things she shouldn't; sometimes she says the WORST thing at the WORST time; her overprotectiveness of Brightbill caused problems down the line; and as much help as she gave, she still needed it herself. And though it was accidental, she still caused murder. That too.

But bruh......are you really going to look at this shot and tell me this is a weak character?

In the state of the world today, it's just a fresh breath of air to show a heroine that gives so much of herself to help others, even those who didn't give her a reason to. That there truly is strength in even the smallest act of kindness.

What I don't get is why news outlets and Netflix are trying to convince us that arcane was expensive to make. 250 million usd for both seasons they said, and obviously that's a lot of money, but they make the mistake of comparing it to big budget movies like Tangled. So you're telling me that I got an animated masterpiece that combines multiple different art styles fantastic voice acting and creative and passionate writing, that's 6-7 hours LONGER than major animated movies, and its the same fucking price?? And you're expecting me to agree with the corporations outlook, that it's too expensive? Yes, tangled is considered one of the most expensive animated movies, but arcane is like FOUR Tangleds. Many other 3D animated movies fall within the 160 million mark, but again, they're hours shorter than arcane was. I think the prices are comparable. I believe in saw someone (on reddit maybe?) divide the cost down to minutes of screen time for each show or movie and it becomes really obvious. I'm also pretty sure that many of these movie budgets do not include marketing in their overall expenses; arcane does.

This isnt even bringing live action tv shows into the equation; i dont think arcane even touches like the top thirty of those. And yet it's framed as such an expense!! Bitch its an incredibly successful tv show!! Ik Netflix is cheap as shit and has its own reputation to grapple with, but is the disdain for animation so much? Is it disdain for female lead action, for poc representation, for LGBT rep on screen? For the animation medium as a whole? I know the answer of course. But it's still very upsetting to acknowledge and think about.

Separately, arcane is absolutely crushing it. Ik act three is going to knock it out of the ballpark. Keep crushing corporate execs expectations please.

What i like about transformers earthspark (and i also heard that transformers: rescue bots also has this idea) is that they give original transformer bot characters a human companion instead of giving an already existing character from the previous iterations a human companion

I love you characters who are artificial copies with the full memories and emotions of their original counterparts who want nothing more than to be the only 'them' but have been changed and hurt so drastically by the circumstances of their existence that even if they did take the place of their original selves the person they were supposed to be a perfect copy of would cease to exist altogether. i love the movie's relationship and development of Aragorn and Boromir so much

like hear me out (i know it must have been done so many times before on this website but guess what i'm rewatching lotr tfotr today)

Aragorn is a lonely ranger, he bears the weight of his heritage on his shoulders while strongly rejecting it. He does not believe he is the next King of Gondor even tho he's the ONLY ONE who can claim the throne. He's desperately alone, in opposition of the WHOLE kingdom of Gondor.

And Boromir is suspicious of this heir to the throne who never fought for his kingdom, who was NOT there to take back Osgiliath, and yet who could claim everything as his own. Of course he questions the legitimacy of Aragorn!

And yet, Boromir witnesses the bravery, rightness and brothership of Aragorn in the Moria, and opens up about his fears about the future of Gondor against Sauron's legions in Lothlorien. And then Aragorn is allowed to bond with his people for the first time, which I believe is a necessary step to face his destiny later in the trilogy. To feel somewhere else than in opposition to the Gondor.

But it's not over !!! Aragorn and Boromir argue one last time before the fellowship breaks apart. Aragorn calls Minas Tirith 'your city', positioning himself in opposition again, and Boromir questions once again his legitimacy.

And THEN every aspect reaches its climax with the death of Boromir, Aragorn swears to not let the kingdom fall, assuming its responsibilities, and Boromir accepts him as brother, captain and king
