Okay so I have a lot of thoughts about the whole thing of the Gerudo being a race of entirely women, with the only exception being one man born every hundred years, and that man automatically being their king. Now this worldbuilding comes from Ocarina of Time, and there's obviously a metric fuckton of unfortunate implications there, because it was 1998. And it seems that Tears of the Kingdom is sticking with the lore of Gerudo men being extremely rare and becoming the King of their people, which once again has a metric fuckton of unfortunate implications because it's 2023 and Nintendo has somehow gotten even worse about this shit.
But let's set aside the whole... everything, and look at this from just the in-universe perspective. How does it work? I mean, it's pretty clear that there is no overlap between the kings; the old ones are normally long gone by the time a new one is born, but the Gerudo manage to take care of themselves during the hangtime. So they must have an established system of government and leadership that doesn't involve a king, and somehow that system is set up in a way that does a smooth transfer of power once a new king is born and old enough to take the throne. But why bother always declaring a random guy to be your King when you already have a perfectly functional system in place?
I mean again, the whole thing has a lot of sexist implications, but we're not looking at this from a real world context, we're examining it in-universe. And we could just go the lazy route and say that their king is in charge just because he's the only man, but I don't like that. I mean come on, the Gerudo are a race of entirely women, and most of their outside problems come from Hylian men being creepy about it. They are entirely a matriarchy; there is literally no reason for their culture to have an inherent respect for men, even if the man in question is one of them. And they're desert people; they live in an extremely harsh and dangerous landscape, if they don't have their shit together, they will die. By sheer necessity, their culture needs to put a lot of value in being practical, because if they're stupid about things, people die. They really can't afford to have a shitty leader take over, and just letting some guy take the wheel doesn't really fit with the way their culture must otherwise work.
So again, why the fuck do they bother having a King?
I think it's mainly just a ceremonial position. Yes, if the guy is a good leader he'll be in charge, but if he isn't good at being a King or isn't interested in the job... fuck it, they've already got a functional government system that's been leading their people the whole time, why fix what isn't broken? The title of Gerudo King isn't about leadership or power. I think it's more about belonging. Because the Gerudo are a culture where every single one of them can be defined in the same way... and there is exactly one exception once a century. Men are considered to be inherently outsiders at the best of times, and more often they're enemies. A man born into this culture is a natural outsider; he is completely unique, and that means he doesn't really fit into his community. And well... when someone is fundamentally different from the rest of their community, they tend to be ostracized.
So I think that's why the position of Gerudo King exists. It isn't about them needing or even wanting a man to lead them. The title of King doesn't need to involve any leadership at all. It's about giving the man born every century a place in their society. It's a way of saying yes, you are one of us, you are a Gerudo, you belong here, you are wanted and you are loved.
The Gerudo know that every hundred years, one of their children will be fundamentally different from all of his peers. And so their society is built to ensure that a child who is completely different from them will still be loved and accepted. He will always have a place in their society. He doesn't need to earn their love, he has it just for existing. These are his people.
The title of Gerudo King isn't an inherent position of authority. It's a promise of acceptance.
#legend of zelda#ganondorf#tears of the kingdom#gerudo#look i have so many thoughts about how their society works#and for the record i really hate the implied bioessentialist gender stuff#but this is my headcanon on the whole gerudo king thing#if their king wants authority he still needs to earn it like everyone else#but they make sure he always has a place among his people#look growing up Different from your peers is a fucking nightmare#as any neurodivergent/disabled/queer kid can attest#i like the idea of gerudo society being structured around ensuring all their children felt like they belonged there#and having a system ready to go for the one kid they KNOW will be the most different

After my qualitative methods class today I'm just increasingly convinced that the boundaries between qualitative and quantitative methods are blurry to nonexistent. I'm not saying that some approaches aren't one thing or the other but literally none of the differentiating aspects listed can be said to only apply to one method or the other. I just think we'd be better off considering how to make sense of our results rather than making statements about how qualitative researchers make conscious choices that produce their results as if quantitative researchers don't literally also do that.
Anyway, I continue to be very interested in the ways that we convey authority in our research work, whether through methodological rigor, the appearance of methodological rigor, or some other way entirely.
#also we had to do an exercise about our own identity#and our position within the group#and my classmate inexplicably identified me as american and everyone else by their hobbies and interests#which is freaking fascinating#all but one of us are international students including my classmate#so it's specifically the being american bit#i do feel very conscious of being american#and having largely different experiences as an international student because of it#mostly in the privileges of an american passport way#but i really don't talk about it with my cohort#to be fair being american is probably the aspect of my identity i am most open about at school other than being white#im not out as queer or neurodivergent at school#that ended up being a long freaking tangent lol#mercy speaks#gradblr#phdblr#phd year one tag#phd tag

Oh I’m utterly fascinated by how people of the past expressed the unexplainable through art and poetry, turning their turmoil from being alone and misunderstood into something beautiful that all may see.
Honestly a shame that people now just whine about not enough flags to represent them when at some point in the past many individuals would not even know how to justify what they were feeling nor find people alike, and to atleast find comfort in the solitude escaped through music and literature, fanaticising about worlds where such a thing was normalised or turning themselves into a beast, to share with the world the level of their inner workings.
#Silly#queer#lgbtqia#alterhuman#therian#otherkin#literature#victorian#art#poetry#writing#nonhuman#gothic#dark#gay#lesbian#asexual#pansexual#bisexual#relatable#neurodivergent#”Buh but we don’t have enough xyz!”#Boohoo you litterally have an ever growing community online full of supportive people and places.#Not to be a “back in my day” but back in the 1300s. 1700s. 1900s. Despite that being still a thing then#Barely anyone if any at all could consciously be aware of what they were feeling was something normal to them#Most saw these beyond normal people as beasts. Creatures worth putting down.#So it isn’t strange that people began to experiment with creation to tell the world how they feel or see themselves#Show everyone the true self and inner workings#Just how many have portrayed themselves through their work and we don’t even know about it?#Anyways sorry not sorry for the rant

there's something so profoundly lasting about feeling alienated from your peers. and I don't know how to even describe it as just like, everything you do and say and wear and like is Different. even from the fellow queer kids because they seem to wear the right clothes and have the right face and say the right things and there's just something about you that doesn't fit in and never will
but also like. the feeling of finding others who seem to stick out in the exact same way as you, because you seem to wear the same types of clothes and walk in the same way and the way you speak seems to be almost the same whilst still being vastly different, and you don’t like the same things but they all seem to be the same kind of thing, or maybe it's just that you like them in the same way. and you’re all so different and you still can’t really place your finger on specifically all of you are so different—because we're all so incredibly individual from one another, but it's the same kind of different—but at least you’re different together
#i’ve never really put this into words before tbh but i’ve always been thinking about it#like i’d always be happy in a weird way and my shoes never looked like my friends shoes#and now the way my t shirt is too big feels awkward in a room full of people with tight cropped t shirts and sleek jackets#and I still can’t quite explain why my skirt feels like the 'wrong kind' of skirt when they’re wearing pretty much the same thing#but when i’m with my friends it definitely feels like I belong#like their way of walking is different from mine but we both don’t seem to know how everyone else does it and yk that's a nice feeling ig#wren wrambles#neurodiversity#neurodivergent#autism#adhd#idk most of us are undiagnosed but I have to assume it's the mental illness#cause i’ve been in friendships and relationships where I feel like i’m so incredibly Different#and I kind of put myself in a hierarchy of 'normal' and 'me' when i’m with someone like that#and like. we've all been queer#but the way I moved my face wasn't as graceful as them and I didn’t laugh in the right way#so yk i’m gonna assume that was autism

Not even in the mood to swap accounts but my mom is talking to my grandma & they where talking about Trump & Kamala & then they talked about someone who supports Kamala & my grandma was like “He used to be a big Trump supporter until his daughter came out of the closet. He should’ve shoved her back into the closet is what he should’ve don’t but he didn’t & instead supported her. You can’t fix anyone by supporting them.”
Yeah, I’m not coming out.
/ooc
#I came out to my mom as lesbian once & she just said “You don’t know yet” but it wasn’t THAT bad#Then my Bible teacher told her I was questioning omnisexual (I told her to tell my mom) & my mom wasn’t OKAYYY with me being gay but at#least she understood that she couldn’t “fix” me.#One thing I’ve learned while being queer & neurodivergent is that everyone wants to “fix” you. They need to fix themselves before they try#to “fix” you.#I love y’all in my rp group though because I feel so safe with y’all🫶🏽#A couple days ago I told Zach my whole identity & he was SO happy for me & I just love the safe community we have here💞#Nev even made sure I was okay with being called “Girl”/“Girly” & I love that AAAAA💕#Tumblr has became my safe space#Love y’all so much it’s not even funny💕💕💗💗💞💞

; since it's the last day of pride ( for me at least ) I figured I'd make at least a lil post !!
; firstly I'd like to say being a part of the LGBTQIA+ community is one of the best things in my life. Sure it has it's flaws, it's discourse and it's hate but it's also freeing, and strong and beautiful in so many ways. There's been people in my life who I truly can't thank enough for being there, and we met because of this community. It's the one community that, even if some days I feel like a total outcast, I've felt truly at home in. At peace even.
; from the flags to the people it's js so breathtakingly stunning and creative and a symbol of resilience honestly. Being queer is a part of so many peoples lives, including the people no longer with us. Truly it's such a huge part of my life and ik it's silly to say but I wouldn't be here without this community and the people in it.
; there's been days when everything has felt hopeless and purposeless and that maybe it never has an end to all the suffering. But then I see a post of two queer kids attending pride for the first time or an old queer couple finally getting married legally and their smiles and the warmth is truly heartwarming. And the jokes and the humour and the community is so inviting and stupid I love it.
; but also how strong the community is, how strong the people in said community are. All of us. The Black Trans Women who started the pride we celebrate today and continue to support, the Indigenous Two Spirits who fight to be recognized and to fight for their people who've been erased, the Disabled queers who are loud and caring and support the community even when they're shunned for it, and every single person in the community who's existence is a fight and a protest and js. All stunning and powerful individuals, no matter who or what they are they're all truly inspirational and deserve the warmest of days and the biggest of hugs / whatever istg.
; from the ' common ' to the ' obscure ' the community is ridiculed and hated, but we're still here and we're still strong. We've always been here and always will. And to the queers living in countries like Palestine and Russia and places where they can't celebrate themselves and their pride, we do stand with you and we will do our best to support you in every way we can. There is no freedom till we are all free, I know one day you'll be safe and be free and be proud to be who you are. I and everyone else who can will make sure of it.
; we are so so diverse and real and wow. Simply wow. So to the Lesbians, the Gays, Bisexuals, Transgenders, Queers, Intersexuals, Aromantics, Asexuals and Aroaces and all on that spectrum, to the Multigenders and the Multisexuals, the Non-binary people and the Two-Spirits and the Xenogenders and the Agenders and the Apathetics, the Repulsed and the Favourable, and to each and every single person in the queerest community out there. I wish you a happy fucking pride month and a wonderful rest of the year. Hold on for us ok ??
; whether you celebrated Pride Month or not, your existence yesterday, today and forever more is worth celebrating every damn day <3
#lgbtqia+#queer#nonbinary#asexual#trans#aromantic#queer community#happy pride month#pride month#pride 2024#intersex#two spirit#Js everyone#This includes disabled neurodivergent fat POC etc of course#And js#Everyone all of you#Happy pride#Whether you got to celebrate or not#Your existence here is a celebrating alr <3

i think something about the “being looked down upon, abused, and cast out for not being able to do things right and speaking up too much and spending years trying to prove yourself to those people until you realise that they’re the problem and not you” and “finding strength and capability in an entirely different way to everyone else that you have to seek out and discover on your own” aspects of zuko's character that managed to appeal to all the queer and disabled kids in the audience no wonder he’s so popular lol
#i say this as a queer and disabled adult who still finds so much comfort in him#in a lot of ways zuko's story reminds me of my own tbh#as a neurodivergent and physically disabled openly queer kid in schooling i was physically and mentally abused#i blamed myself from it as I was kicked from school to school#I thought I was evil and went down a bad path for a while as a sort of self punishment#but i realised what happened to me wasn’t okay I was a child!!! and I learnt to cope and get through life even if it was in a different way#to eve everyone else#zuko is kinda just? how i was at sixteen. but able to throw fire and with a shit family instead of a shit everything else

i think ppl can and should project onto fictional characters. that's kind of what they're for a lot of the time. even if in the story they dont have the exact same experiences the audience can still find similarities with them and it's empowering to headcanon that, because of these similarities, the character has a similar identity to you. a lot of writers purposely give their characters experiences similar to marginalized groups to make those groups feel seen.
that being said, if you project your own experiences onto your blorbos you HAVE to be able to tell when the story is purposely making the character a metaphor for your experiences and when the story is. not doing that. just because you personally relate to a character doesn't mean the character literally is your marginalized identity. and it definitely doesn't mean that the writers hate your marginalized identity, specifically, if they don't do what you want them to do with that character.
#shut up pandora#this is about a post i say talking about how belos owlhouse has traits that if you squint could be seen as him having schizophrenia#and bc op thinks the show fumbled his character#specifically bc hes a Bad Guy who Does Bad Things and Is Bad#the shows creator is literally ableist and is a fake ally for otherwise depicting other instances of neurodivergence positively#the evidence btw is:#belos seeing hallucinations of the golden guards to represent his repressed guilt which is a trope that everyone on this green earth uses#and the fact that papa titan refers to belos as having 'delusions'#which in this context isn't being used medically but colloquially bc guess what! words can have different meanings depending on the context#and in this context he isnt talking about a medical delusion hes talking about belos's denial of his mistakes#which isnt a mental illness thing its an asshole thing which he is. thats the appeal of his character#the show has problems in general and belos character definitely has problems but this aint it chief#methinks someone was looking for a reason to hate on the queer show hmm i wonder why#even if they werent trying to do that op projected too hard on a character who the writers didnt expect them to project onto so hard#that they forgot that not everything isnt about them so when they didnt like where they went with belos's character#they decided that dana terrace just hated ppl like them specifically#terminally online bullshit#anyway moral of the story is not everything is about you#also dont try to look for this post or anything i dont want ppl to shit talk op to their face#im vagueing for a reason im not trying to start stuff#but anyway even if you talk about how the hallucination trope is universally harmful which i dont think it is depending on how you use it#and even if you think the word delusional shouldnt be used colloquially due to its association with a mental illness#there are so many other pieces of media that use that trope#and there are so many other instances where that word is used and all of its so much more offensive than fucking owl house#youre standing naked in a river in winter and complaining that your soup is lukewarm#oh how i wish that cartoon fans can get as angry about shit like south park as they do about shit like the owl house

I think it's real obvious that if you actually like Colin you don't belong in the Polin fandom. y'all are all so ableist about him and think the absolute worst of him and a huge number of the posts and fics are romanticizing Penelope straight up abusing him
we should make a new tag because this one is NOT it
#polin#bridgerton#penelope featherington#colin bridgerton#there's a fun new trend in fics where instead of 'just' emotionally and mentally abusing him Penelope is now hitting him too#and the narrative justifies it and colin thinks it's his fault she hits him and everyone cheers in the comments isn't that great?#oh did i say great? i meant fucking awful#you can tell this fandom is painfully tradwife levels straight because they think women who do this shit is cute or harmless#us queer women who have been abused by other women know damn well fanon penelope is the kind of girl you run away from with a swiftness#but colin's just a big stupid dummy for 1 (one) comment and not assuming her feelings for him so he needs to be slapped around i guess#i hate it here#burn the whole fandom to the ground and start from scratch#and we're SURPRISED there's an anti-polin blog? WE'RE anti-polin ffs#everyone and their mother knows 'Polin' actively hates half their ship#and are incredibly hostile to anyone who doesn't slobber all over penelope's shoes as she mistreats her supposed love interest and friends#and yeah i'm bitter about it#also i'll say it: the way we talk about Luke Newton is fucking unacceptable too#he's a neurodivergent man and some of the shit y'all say is DISGUSTING#this fandom is actively antagonistic to nd peeps
