Just learned that when school lets out Kitty & Lizzie stay at the school with the White Queen but are pretty much left to roam free after breakfast check in.

I’m gonna explode if I hear one more person talk about the theory that Raven and Apple were switched at birth. It makes no sense. Literally the only thing is that Raven has black hair and Apple is self centered. The evil queen and the king have black hair and they’re her parents so she has black hair. And yall must’ve not paid attention to the way Snow White was talking to Apple that made it obvious that the reason Apple was only concerned for herself was because of how she was raised. It also didn’t help that they were all told they’d literally die if they didn’t follow their story.

Also Raven literally has magic and Apple doesn’t. Also in the books Raven literally avoids mirrors because she looks so much like her mother.

I really really really like this moment in the books, so I tried my hand at adapting it. I'm not actually particularly happy with it, but I like the idea and that's what a test run is for! It's definitely helped me in learning what not to do lol

Some Fun Facts About the Wonderlandians from the EAH Books

Maddie and Kitty can hear the narrator, but Lizzie can't. This is because, as queen, it's Lizzie's job to be bossy and bring some order to the chaos of wonderland. She "reminds things what they are when they forget." No word one way or the other on the White Queen, but I'd assume she has a similar problem.

Kitty CAN hear the narrator but spends most of her time pretending not to because:

Kitty does not like being narrated. She actively conceals her thoughts and feelings from the narrator most of the time and they have to guess based on her actions. She does have some tells though, like how she's always thinking about cheese when she licks her lips and looks up. She's also far from infallible and leaves her thoughts exposed whenever she's distracted.

Kitty has also managed to scratch the narrator before, despite them being an invisible bodiless being.

When Kitty turns invisible, she goes to a place called "Between" which is some sort of shadowland behind reality. She describes it as "a little like running, a bit like dreaming, and a lot like swimming." There is no collision In Between---you can freely move through walls and objects---and no significant gravity, since you can float. It also enables you to fast travel (1 step In Between can equal around 50 steps in reality).

It does however, make you feel weird and sleepy if you stay there for too long, and Kitty has an uncle who actually spent so much time Between that he became a permanent shadow.

The Mad Hatter can see Kitty when she's In Between. Or rather, in the words of the narrator: "He's just mad enough to THINK he can, which turns out, is very nearly the same thing."

The White Queen has a poor understanding of linear time, since it isn't linear in Wonderland. Her voicemail message says "I'm busy, call back five minutes ago."

While all three wonderlandians experience intense culture shock, Maddie has it the worst. Kitty and Lizzie are both very aloof and don't really have friends (outside each other and perhaps Maddie), but Maddie is sweet and kind to everyone, and so she has the most chances to experience Ever After's very different idea of manners. For example, Maddie was convinced for years that everyone in Ever After had really bad table manners because nobody had ever started a food fight.

Lizzie has an incredible memory, especially for things she reads, and was able to memorize the entire script of a play within 24 hours.

Lizzie has a deck of playing cards that her mother gave her with advice on them instead of numbers. Lizzie lives or dies by this advice, even when it doesn't make much sense in context, until she goes through some character development.

Sleep magic doesn't work on Maddie because she's crazy enough that her brain assumes a) she is already asleep and reality is just her dreams or b) her dreams cause reality.

Lizzie can build anything out of cards. Literally anything, and almost immediately. It's magical. She's built an entire wall out of them before. I can't remember if she has, but she definitely could build a functional bridge out of them.

All 3 Wonderlandians consider Cedar Wood a friend (best friend in Maddie's case), and would fistfight people for her.

Reading the first Ever After High book alone made me realize just how comedic and kind of unserious the show is. In the books, Hunter Huntsman has a pet griffin, not a squirrel, and there are no shenanigans happening with him and any animal at all! And Daring Charming is not the laughable narcissist that he is in the show, his character is much more serious and he isn’t constantly looking in a mirror (at least in the first book, I think I remember from the third book he might have looked in mirrors but I’ll have to see when I read it again), he’s very skilled in the classes he takes for sword-fighting and other prince shit. Raven herself remembers watching him sword-fight with his feet and he won. He also doesn’t have that blinding smile super power, his smile is only ever described in a similar way but it’s never established that one smile from him blinds any maidens nearby that are looking at him. Dexter’s character seems heavily exaggerated in the show compared to the books. I kept expecting him to be SUPER awkward and stuttering A LOT and commenting out loud about how he’s jealous of Daring and wants to be like him but he’s way more chill!

The overall tone of the books is much more serious than the tone of the show is and I really wish we could’ve gotten an exact copy-paste show of the books bc of that.

Is Snow White All That Bad as a Mom?

I get why, because of how pushy Snow White was to Apple and how manipulative and obsessive she was in general, it would make sense to see her as an abusive mother who doesn't care about Apple unless it'sabout their destiny. Yet I choose to believe otherwise. Because not only is she actually sweet and motherly in the book, we do see her wanting to hear from Apple and was shown to be happy to see Apple and embrace her daughter at the end of Dragon Games.

My headcannon is that Snow White is only ever sweet and loving when it comes Apple, while she is, in her core, manipulative, competitive, and self centered. She puts up a facade of being the kind and perfect Snow White in public, while behind closed doors can be very cold and two face. The only person who see her for who she truly is (and is comfortable enough to be) is The Evil Queen.

Snow White loves her daughter, thus is who Snow White is not afraid to be genuinely kind hearted and warm towards. This would lead to Apple aspired to be the kind of Snow White she believes her mother to be because Snow was that loving to her growing up. Snow's why, despite being selfish, Apple developed a sweet demeanor, always looking out for her friends well being and making sure she helped someone because that's not just what Snow Whites do, but what her mother inspired her to do. However after confronting and releasing the Evil Queen and seeing her mother do questionable things in Dragons Game, is why Apple replies: Wow, Mira was right. We are different. Because imagine being the kind of person based on who you believed your parent was, only for them to be almost nothing from what you imagined.

i just got done rereading and annotating “a wonderlandiful world” by shannon hale for my best friend and AHHHHH FUCK its so good, genuinely makes me so unwell

The Shannon Hale Ever After High books are basically Raven bi-panicking every five minutes in between existential crises, while Apple’s so far in the closet she’s nearly found Narnia and is also constantly facing existential crises. Except Wonderlandiful World. That’s Cedar, Kitty, Maddie, and Lizzie’s turn to have existential crises.
