The Commission’s recent findings demonstrate that Russian authorities have committed torture in all provinces of Ukraine where areas came under Russian control and in the detention facilities investigated in the Russian Federation. This confirms that torture was widespread. Additional shared patterns in the way in which torture was committed showed that it was systematic. These patterns concern the categories of persons targeted, the commonality of methods employed, the aim for which torture was used, and the transposition of violent practices common in Russian Federation detention facilities to similar facilities in areas under Russian control in Ukraine.  The cases documented illustrate that Russian authorities have deployed or recruited personnel, who have acted in a coordinated manner and according to a division of labour in the commission of torture. Testimonies collected describe the involvement of officials of the Federal Penitentiary Service and the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, as well as of Russian armed forces officers; witnesses referred to orders to commit torture and a prevailing sense of impunity.  The overall findings lead the Commission to consider that it has sufficient evidence to determine that the Russian authorities have acted pursuant to a coordinated state policy and have therefore committed crimes against humanity of torture.

I have a few things but it's likely mostly headcanons that I consider somewhat disconnected from my analysis.

Curly's parents had him old, only child, died shortly after he graduated and got the pony express position. It was the last big thing they saw him do which is a reason he stayed for so long.

Doesn't admit how much their death affected him

Jimmy has a largish family. One of the cases of too many kids to keep tract of, parent never really noticed any of them nor their behaviors

Anya lived in a lot of houses growing up, regular supportive family that just struggled to support themselves.

Became a nurse largely to avoid their financial struggles but mostly because she felt too many people weren't being cared for and advocated for in the world properly

Swansea likes high top sneakers most. Likes how snug they fit and how they shield his ankles at work

Curly has a bit of a caffeine problem since he can’t sleep. Can occasionally be found wandering the ship at “night” when he had some too late or just couldn’t sleep.

Daisuke knows a little about a lot of things. Starts conversations with “did you know” a lot but please don’t ask him deeper questions

Curly has known Jimmy longer but has worked with Anya and Swansea longer, met them during his middle years, met Jimmy shortly before college.

Swansea rents a house, Daisuke’s family lives in a big nice apartment, Curly has a condo, Anya live in a small one bedroom apartment and Jimmy has a studio.

Curly's home is very disconcerting. It's too normal to a like uncanny degree.

Anya is ambidextrous but prefers her left.

Anya and Curly are both not native English speakers so occasionally they forget words and bond over the mutual mocking they get from the rest of the crew. Daisuke knows some Japanese but is still learning, never picked it up as a kid

Only Swansea and Daisuke know how to drive, Earth in my mind is very post capitalist so only older people and like the extremely wealthy can afford cars.

It's also like walkable just due to how many businesses are in your face. Probably strict living vs shopping districts

I have more but the way that I headcanon about them is like too long.

it's fine to ask me this! Unfortunately I have to preface this with a disclaimer that a lot of books on Egyptian Jewish history have a Zionist bias. There are antizionist Egyptian Jews, and at the very least ones who have enough national pride that AFAIK they do not publicly hold Zionist beliefs, like those who spoke in the documentary the Jews of Egypt (avaliable on YouTube for free with English subtitles). Others have an anti Egyptian bias- there is a geopolitical tension with Egypt from Antiquity that unfortunately some Jewish people have carried through history even when it was completely irrelevant, so in trying to research interactions between "ancient" Egyptian Jews and Native Egyptians (from the Ptolemaic era into the proto-Coptic and fully Coptic eras) I've unfortunately come across stuff that for me, as an Egyptian, reads like anti miscegenationist ideology, and it is difficult to tell whether this is a view of history being pushed on the past or not. The phrase "Erev Rav" (meaning mixed multitude), which in part refers to Egyptians who left Egypt with Moses and converted to Judaism, is even used as an insult by some.

Since I mentioned that documentary, I'll start by going over more modern sources. Mapping Jewish San Francisco has a playlist of videos of interviews with Egyptian Jews, including both Karaites and Rabbinic Jews iirc (I reblogged some of these awhile ago in my "actually Egyptian tag" tag). This book, the Dispersion of Egyptian Jewry, is avaliable for free online, it promises to be a more indepth look at Egyptian Jews in the lead up to modern explusion. I have only read a few sections of it, so I cannot give a full judgment on it. There's this video I watched about preserving Karaite historical sites in Egypt that I remember being interesting. "On the Mediterranian and the Nile edited by Harvey E. Goldman and Matthis Lehmann" is a collection of memiors iirc, as is "the Man in the Sharkskin Suit" (which I've started but not completed), both moreso from a Rabbinic perspective. Karaites also have a few websites discussing themselves in their terms, such as this one.

For the pre-modern but post-Islamic era, the Cairo Geniza is a great resource but in my opinion as a hobby researcher, hard to navigate. It is a large cache of documents from a Cairo synagogue mostly from around the Fatimid era. A significant portion of it is digitized and they occasionally crowd source translation help on their Twitter, and a lot of books and papers use it as a primary source. "The Jews in Medieval Egypt, edited by: Miriam Frenkel" is one in my to read pile. "Benjamin H. Hary - Multiglossia in Judeio-Arabic. With an Edition, Translation, and Grammatical Study of the Cairene Purim Scroll" is a paper I've read discussing the Jewish record of the events commemorated by the Cairo Purim, I got it off either Anna's Archive or libgen. "Mamluks of Jewish Origin in the Mamluk Sultanate by Koby Yosef" is a paper in my to read pile. "Jewish pietism of the Sufi type A particular trend of mysticisme in Medieval Egypt by Mireille Loubet" and "Paul B Fenton- Judaism and Sufism" both discuss the medieval Egyptian Jewish pietist movement.

For "ancient" Egyptian Jews, I find the first chapter of "The Story of the Jews: Finding the Words 1000 BC-1492 AD” by Simon Schama, which covers Elephantine, very interesting (it also flies in the face of claims that Jews did not marry Native Egyptians, though it is from centuries before the era researchers often cover). If you'd like to read don't click this link to a Google doc, that would be VERY naughty. There's very little on the Therapeutae, but for the paper theorizing they may have been influenced by Buddhism (possibly making them an example of Judeo-Buddhist syncretism) look here (their Wikipedia page also has some sources that could be interesting but are not specifically about them). "Taylor, Joan E. - Jewish women philosophers of first-century Alexandria: Philo’s Therapeutae reconsidered" is also a to read.

I haven't found much on the temple of Onias/Tell el Yahudia/Leontopolis in depth, but I have the paper "Meron M. Piotrkowski - Priests in Exile: The History of the Temple of Onias and Its Community in the Hellenistic Period" in my to be read pile (which I got off Anna's Archive). I also have some supplemental info from a lecture I attended that I'm willing to privately share.

I also have a document compiling links about the Exodus of Jews from Egypt in the modern era, but I'm cautious about sharing it now because I made it in high school and I've realized it needs better fact checking, because it had some misinfo in it from Zionist publications (specifically about the names of Nazis who fled to Egypt- that did happen, but a bunch of names I saw reported had no evidence of that being the case, and one name was the name of a murdered resistance fighter???)

The original book version of Witcher had a short story named The Lesser Evil.

I read it far too long time ago, but it was about how Geralt got the name of the Butcher of Blaviken.

A Wizard offers a job to Geralt to protect him from a "Monster", a cursed girl who is out for her life and killing her is a lesser evil choice. Because Geralt has values of not killing people, he refuses.

When he meets the girl, Renfri, she tells Geralt her life story, telling him why she pursues the wizard, and wants to hire Geralt to help to kill him, because the wizard is a "Monster" and killing him would be the lesser evil. Geralt refuses and try to talk down Renfri to take revenge but in the end it was futile, the girl try it anyway.

Geralt always had trouble with choosing sides, the topic of neutrality, staying out of people's businesses once he knew too much.

In the end, Geralt can't run away from choosing sides, because he wanted to do the right thing. He ends up killing Renfri and her band while the wizard lives.

The mob turns against Geralt and shun him, and while the guards don't arrest him, because he protected the wizard, they ask him never to return to this town.

I think a lot about this story.

As a tour guide, I often have American customers. And in general, "the stupid American" stereotype is not true.  Most of the time, they are intelligent and curious people who simply didn't learn European history in too much detail, so they have some questions about it. That's fine, that's why my job exists. But sometimes I meet the other type of American who asks me stuff like, "So is Hungary part of the Czech Republic?", and I just want to combust right then and there. 

How can they even begin to understand the nuances of history if they don't know basic geography? How can these adults be so ignorant about the world around them that they travel to a country without even realizing that it is an actual independent country? Did they even know where they were?? And you're saying they can vote?! In a country whose politics are admittedly influencing the entire world?!? Jesus...

i hate being the kind of artist nerd who cares about historical accuracy when i dont know anything about this. what kind of dress would have been worn with this 👇 wimple and crown i drew? what era does this fit? were their dresses structured or loose or form fitting or what? what silhouette shape matches this era? would anyone have ever worn this or am i making stuff up?

and it’s not even that i would rather just make up fantasy versions because the actual idea for this drawing isnt about the clothes so i dont know what clothes to give them that’s why I’m googling stuff.
