i was very surprised at how difficult it was to find (good) resources for learners that accurately describe how 部首 (in English we translate this to be the "radical") work in 漢字 (kanji). i pulled these from a very comprehensive guide of kanji from おじゃちゃん, a native speaker who is also a language teacher and if youre interested in learning more, you should check out her full overview here.
to a beginner this might not be as useful - but when you get deep enough into japanese i think it's worth it to understand how kanji is actually used by native speakers. understanding how the radical works can also help you guess at meanings and recognize common patterns that may make memorizing kanji easier
#mocha speaks#japanese langblr#learning japanese#japanese kanji#typically most english-speaker-centric guides describe the radical as 'building blocks' of kanji#which makes sense as a memorization tool#however if you ever went far enough in your studies you might need to unlearn all of that - the radical is actually a classification system#i'll stop there at the risk of going on a tangent in the tags#but yeah being aware of what it is at least could be helpful down the road#especially if you want to start using native resources. bc they use the radical much more differently than a learner might be used to

Does duolingo stop making you put "Yo" at the beginning of every sentence at some point?
#its interesting cause no native speaker would say yo quiero or yo hago or yo [verb] bc it's implicit#but of course for learners is way easier to add it to every sentence. especially english speakers cause they dont have tacit subject#so if you reach a high enough level do they make you stop putting it orrr you just keep it forever and ever?

languages are so beautiful. i want to learn ALL of them. i swear with every new media i get into that portrays a different language i gain a new passion
when I was really into mlb i think it sparked my aspiration to learn french (which i am currently taking in school)
getting into nijisanji en has started this intense love for the japanese language and this insatiable drive i have to learn it
watching qsmp is making me remember why i love spanish and it’s made me appreciate my very very rudimentary understanding of it from when i took a year of spanish in school
starting to watch kdramas and looking at the written language and how it’s all put together has secured korean as the next language I plan to learn
hearing relatives speak tagalog my whole life has always made me wish i could understand it at the very least, and i WILL have a solid grasp on the language before i die, if i don’t that will be one of the reasons i come back as a ghost. and hearing millie speak in tagalog or tweet in tagalog makes me wish even more i was fluent in it
#kiwi shares their thoughts#i love languages#they’re all so beautiful and fun#seriously who gave all these languages the right to be so interesting#even english though it seems really dull and uninteresting to me because it’s my first (and currently only) language#holds a special piece of my heart#there are certain things about it that make no sense and are endlessly frustrating#i can assume especially frustrating to non-native english speakers and learners#but still i find them so silly and endearing

english versus hebrew, which I think is interesting to contrast
The funniest thing about writing in another language is if you have bad handwriting in your native script (I do), it's going to transfer to your TL.
Exhibit A:
#hebrew#judge my english handwriting all day but if you judge my hebrew i will cry (joking)#this has been SO helpful for my understanding of the letters though#i really love seeing how language learners write though i think it's so interesting#especially when they do contrast their handwriting between their native language and the language they're learning#also don't judge my question mark in hebrew i just have Opinions on how it should be oriented#it SHOULD be 'backwards' compared to english i think#question marks FACE the sentence it is questioning

Don't Use Duolingo if You Really Want to Learn Irish
That title is a bit dramatic, but I really don't think that duolingo is a useful tool for Irish, especially in its current state, so I want to talk a bit about why, and I'll also talk about some alternatives.
Pronunciation
The first and most egregious issue is that at some point recently-ish, duo decided to start using Text-To-Speech for their Irish course, rather than recordings of a native speaker. The problem here is that their TTS is not trained on native speakers of Irish and pronounces words incorrectly. It doesn't make consistent distinctions between broad and slender consonants for example.
Irish has no standard pronunciation, so I understand how it can feel weird to choose just one dialect for the purposes of pronunciation (the old recordings were from a speaker of Galway Irish), but having just one dialect is much better than TTS which sounds like a learner, imagine if they had TTS for the French course which sounded like an anglophone schoolkid trying to pronounce french, and claimed they were teaching you how to speak french!
Grammar
Duo tends to be correct on grammar at least, which is a start. But often people using it get very confused about the grammar because duo doesn't explain any of it. I think there's a place for immersion in language learning, and I don't think everything has to be explained like that, but within duo's system of sentence testing and exercises like that, not having any explanation for why it's "mo chóta" and not "mo cóta" can be really confusing. Duo used to have more grammar information, it's a shame that they removed it, I wonder why they did it.
Money and Motivation
Duolingo is a business, and their motivation is not to help you learn a language 'fully', but to keep you using their app and hopefully have a higher chance of sharing it with others, competing with others, buying or causing others to buy memberships or lingots or any other in-app purchases.
I don't want to make it out like duo is some big conspiracy and they're tricking people, I don't think that's the case, but it's good to remember that their primary motivation is to keep people using the app, rather than help people move to a level in a language where they don't need the app anymore.
Keep this in mind whenever you see people trying to sell you stuff for language learning.
Why do people use Duolingo
I do get it, and I don't want to make anyone feel bad for using duo, there's a ton of reasons people tend towards it at first 1. It's really well known, so especially if you're learning a language and haven't heard of other resources for it, you'll check duolingo 2. It's very motivating for a lot of people, checking in every day and forming that habit is a really good way of sticking with a language 3. It's fun, people enjoy it
If you use it for reason 3. and you still like it, then don't worry about this post, I'm not trying to yuck anyone's yums, keep having fun!
If you use it for reasons 1. or 2. you can still keep using it if you like, but I want to suggest some other things which you might find helpful in trying to get to a higher level in Irish.
Other Resources
To address the pronunciation issue, I'd heavily recommend you disregard the pronunciation in duolingo, if you're looking for more reliable sources of pronunciation, I'd look towards recordings of native speakers, you can find that on:
Teanglann and Foclóir (they use the same recordings)
Fuaimeanna
and a really useful and underused one: https://davissandefur.github.io/minimal-pairs/ where you can hear the difference between similar sounds that English speakers often mix up in Irish.
A lot of people like duolingo because it's nice to have a clear path forward, a progression that you can get into without too much decision-making. For this I recommend getting a good textbook or course and working through it, the ones I'll recommend also have native speaker audio on them.
Learning Irish by Mícheál Ó Siadhail, this book teaches Galway Irish, not just in pronunciation but in grammar too. It's quite dense but it's well thought out and well explained.
Teach Yourself Irish (1961) this book is available for free online, and is a really good option if you're interested in Cork Irish (Munster), and have some experience with grammatical terminology. I used this book myself and really liked it, but it's very intense and not for everyone. (If you do end up using it, feel free to skip the appendices at the start, they're more of a reference and sometimes put people off from actually getting to the first chapter. Also if you have any questions about it or need any help just let me know.)
If you want a video course, there's a great course called "Now You're Talking" which is available for free online, along with audio files and worksheets here. It features Donegal Irish and leads into the more intermediate level course called Céim ar Aghaidh also available online.
There's other textbooks that I have less experience with (Buntús na Gaeilge, Gaeilge/Gramadach Gan Stró, etc.) but if they work for you, stick with them, there's nothing worse than not making progress because you keep switching resources trying to find the "perfect one"
Whether or not you continue to use Duolingo, I would really really encourage you to try engaging with media in Irish. People often shy away from this when they're learning because they don't feel like they're "ready" yet. But you basically never feel like you're ready, you just have to try and find something near your level and try to get comfortable with not understanding everything. This is where you learn a huge portion of the language, you hear how things are pronounced you see what words mean in what contexts, getting input in your target language is so important!
I know content can be kind of hard to find, so I'll make a few recommendations here: There's a wealth of content available for free online (more if you're in ireland but some internationally) on TG4 If you're still starting out, I'd recommend trying to watch some kids shows since they'll have simpler language and will be easier to follow. I wouldn't recommend using English subtitles when you watch them. Some good options include:
Dónall Dána: an Irish dub of Horrid Henry, silly and childish but the actors have good Irish and importantly the show has Irish language subtitles, they don't always match but if you're still beginning and can't necessarily get everything by ear, they're really useful. (Mostly Galway Irish)
Curious George: another dub, again with Irish language subtitles (I can't remember what dialects were in it off the top of my head but I'd assume mostly galway again)
Seó Luna: No subtitles, but a good option if you're aiming for Munster Irish, the lead character has Kerry Irish
Miraculous: No subtitles but a better show than most of the other kids' ones and more bearable to watch as an adult (Mostly Galway Irish)
Ros na Rún: Moving away from kids shows, a long running soap opera, this has Irish subtitles and a really good mix of dialects within the show. If you're finding the kids shows boring or too easy I'd really recommend it, but it can be complex because of the amount of characters, dialects, and plotlines. I'd recommend starting at the beginning of a newer season and just trying to catch on to what's happening as you go.
There are a lot of books, if you live in Ireland you can get nearly any Irish book for free from a library, so please check out your local library or request some of these from other libraries in the system:
There's a series of fairytales (Rápúnzell, Luaithríona etc.) by Máiréad Ní Ghráda which are illustrated and for children, which are a really good option for when you're just starting out reading
There's kids books about Fionn and the Fianna by Tadhg Mac Dhonnagáin
There's a cute little kids' book in Kerry Irish about a cat named Mábúis
Leabhar Breac has a lot of graphic novels, some of them based on Irish mythology, some on other stuff. The fact that they're illustrated can make it a lot easier to follow even if you don't understand all the words at first.
Gliadar has just released their Scott Pilgrim translation
If you're looking for something a bit more advanced you can look at some of the books for adult learners by Comhar, they contain simplified language and glossaries but have full original adult stories.
And if you're wanting full, natural, native-level Irish there's a load of books by those same groups, and others like An Gúm, Cló Iar-Chonnacht, Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne, Éabhlóid, Coiscéim, and more.
And don't shy away from older books written in Seanchló either, they can be more challenging but it's a whole extra world of books
If you're trying to improve your listening comprehension, I definitely recommend listening to shows on Raidió na Gaeltachta, hearing native Irish speakers talk at full speed is really good practice. But I get that it can be overwhelming at first. Here are some things you can do as you build up to that:
Watching those same TV shows I mentioned without subtitles is a good way to build up listening skills.
Vifax is a website where you can practice listening to short news segments and answer questions on them, then getting to look at the transcript with notes afterwards.
Snas is kind of the evolution of vifax, now using clips from both the news and Ros na Rún.
I really hope that this post can help people move away from duolingo if they're looking to take their Irish learning to the next level, if you've got any questions, just let me know!

girl's guide to academic success: ep 1! ⊹˚. ♡
──★ ˙ ̟🎀 this post focuses on: actively rooting for success! ♡ part 2 -> ♡
🧸𓂃 ࣪˖ 1. organisation
first off, have something to organise ur academic life with! i personally use notion (which i'll add later) but u can use anything as long as it's cute, convenient, unique and accessible to you, your life and your schedule specifically. especially as a visual learner, i like to have somewhere i can dump literally everything regarding a singular area in my life, so i do this for almost everything along with school and i highly recommend this <3
🧸𓂃 ࣪˖ 2. recognition of talents & improvements
analyse your strengths and weaknesses. think back on tests, exams, marks, and analyse which ones you got highest and lowest on. dont beat urself up for it, obviously; it's just to check which subjects you're doing good in and which ones have room for improvement. for example i love science but im not the best at it sometimes and we had an assessment recently and i didn't get as high as i'd like so i wrote down a little list on a piece of paper in my pencilcase for the topics i got the least in for me to study on my own to practise later.
🧸𓂃 ࣪˖ 3. laying out goals
set down specific goals; i like to do this week by week accustomed to my schedule that week in my school notion page along with images and vision boards based on the term/semester, but you can do it for the week, the month, the year, anything as long as its helpful to you
🧸𓂃 ࣪˖ 4. productive planning
plan accordingly based on ur time energy. when creating any to do list or productivity plan dont pile a ridiculous amount onto it that just leaves you stressed and overwhelmed because that defeats the entire point; this works the same for academic plans and goals and lists etc.
🧸𓂃 ࣪˖ 5. extra credit
put extra work in to the subjects you know will help you in the future. for example, for my personal aspirations i need to excel in english, history and textiles so i always try my absolute hardest and put my all into those lessons and do extra studying for them in my free time where i can. school is to prepare you for the future so take advantage of that
🧸𓂃 ࣪˖ 6. asking questions
please don't be shy to ask questions! that's what teachers are there for and you won't have them forever so take advantage of it while you can! you can even do it in that little window of time just after class if ur too nervous to ask in class. for example, on my last english exam i went to my teacher after class and asked about what i needed to improve on to get the marks i missed next time, and he told me i added too much detail and some other things so i wrote it down and am keeping a note of it to remind me to improve on that next time! (i got top of my class though so i didnt mind. still kind of pissed i added too much detail though)
🧸𓂃 ࣪˖ 7. participation
participate! ok im saying this as someone who still struggles with social anxiety a fair amount but if u wanna get higher marks and get on good terms w ur teacher i 100% recommend this. i don't do this in every class but i do it where i can and when i'm confident in my answer, and it's really intimidating at first but what i did is i did it first in the classes i felt most comfortable on and continued from there. it gets easier every time i swear, and nobody's judging you; they'll forget about it after five minutes. plus, what would they be judging you for? being smarter than them?
🧸𓂃 ࣪˖ 8. prioritising ur health
this is mentioned a lot in these types of posts but if you're tired or burnt out or overworked or just feel like you need to take a break then do. do the best you can and compromise like i said earlier if you need to, just make sure u are prioritising yourself over anything. <3

NOTE: stä'noli should be stolä'ni, that was a pretty rudimentary mistake and I'm not really sure what was going on in my brain when I wrote it but 😅 maybe i'll fix it on the image later but i can't be bothered right this minute, i'm already up way later than I should be as is (have an early day tomorrow)
Further language notes/rambling under the cut!
"wait, isn't Jake supposed to be spelled Tsyeyk in Na'vi?" Yes it is! And if I'd given that line to a monolingual Na'vi speaker I would've spelled it that way. BUT Neytiri is bilingual and does not pronounce it "Tsyeyk" (I mean, technically she doesn't say "Jake" either, it's more like "Zheyk" but w/e). So for her specifically I keep the j. I suppose at that point I could've just kept the English spelling completely, but leaving silent letters at the end like that makes things weird in written Na'vi given all the grammatical endings that can be applied (not that that matters in this comic because they weren't needed for the line but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
Speaking of Jake, writing Na'vi dialogue for him is fun to me because he's not a native speaker which means I'm free to give him all sorts of beginner habits and/or mistakes, especially given that by his own admission he struggled learning the language. However, since I'm working within a pretty broad time frame, I had to remind myself that he wouldn't be a beginner forever.
I bring this up because there are two aspects of Jake's dialogue here that I was going to point out as...well, not wrong, but as more "English-y" habits I'd headcanoned he might hang on to...but on further reflection changed my mind because I realized that at the time of this comic he's been living with the Omatikaya for nearly ten years and would be pretty much fluent. I still left it written that way but am no longer headcanoning that that's ~just how he talks~ at this point in his life. After all, if I'm conscious of these habits after just two years of studying the language as a casual hobby, is it really believable that he'd be clinging to them after nearly a decade of full daily immersion, even with his self-admitted struggle with language learning? 😅
Anyways, for the sake of rambling about my hobby regardless, one of these aspects was using SVO word order, like English. Na'vi is a free-word-order language, so SVO is valid, but most Na'vi speakers are not going to stick to it exclusively. I think Jake, like many native-English-speaking learners, may have relied on this word order earlier on because that's just how his brain has been wired to process information, but at this point I think just by sheer exposure he'd have broken out of any strict adherence to it, intentional or otherwise.
The other thing is concerning possessive. The standard Na'vi grammatical ending for possessive is -yä. But Na'vi grammar also includes a concept called inalienable possession, which refers to things that are intrinsically yours and cannot be given away. What exactly qualifies as inalienable varies between languages that have such a concept, but with Na'vi it's most commonly seen with body parts. Inalienable possession can be marked with -yä, but there is a slight preference to mark it with the topical, -ri, instead. So, compare:
Peyä mehinam lu ngim. His legs are long. Pori mehinam lu ngim. His legs are long (lit. "concerning him, the legs are long")
Both of these are considered acceptable, but the -ri version is considered just slightly "better" (for lack of a better term).
You'll notice that Jake uses peyä instead of pori here; this was because the peyä structure is a more direct equivalent to the English construction, so it's pretty common for new learners to use it instead of -ri. And again it's not wrong, so it's not exactly a mistake per se. So it seemed like a reasonable "Englishy-but-still-technically-correct" habit for Jake to hang on to. And I do still think that may well have been in the case...in his earlier years 😅
soooo yeah. I will still probably be giving Jake some of those speaking habits in comics and such that take place only 2-3 years after A1, but once you get to around 10 years like this one...yeah I think it'll make more sense to just write his dialogue like that of any other fluent Na'vi-speaking character lol

music in fantasy anime especially tends to have a lot of influences from irish (traditional and celtic rock) music in it (for example in fairy tail, seven deadly sins, and hxh) (in some cases it's just straight up irish song with japanese lyrics instead of irish/english). this is bc irish music has a surprisingly long history in japan going back to the meiji restoration in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when the japanese govt was creating its national school system, with curriculums influenced by western (esp angloamerican) schooling and the western professors they invited to help structure the new japanese national schooling. they imported hundreds of books of american and angloceltic songs, and frequently gave them japanese lyrics (either translated or just entirely new), and used those as the basis of national music education in japan (these japanese irish/english folk songs becoming the "shōka" genre in japan). specifically shōka music was cultivated because of its ability/goal to promote national unity, both through teaching the same songs nationwide but also because the themes (lyrically and musically) of shōka songs appeal to an idyllic, nostalgic, agrarian past (whether real or imaginary). shōka then had a strong influence on the development of japan's own "classical" and popular (enka) music tradition (esp modifying western scales to be more pentatonic). shōka waned from the school curriculums around the 1960s so now even moreso than before it has a "nostalgic" quality to it in japanese music/media culture. hence its widespread application in the fantasy genre of anime, which is distinguished from more futuristic genres like mecha and sci-fi by its grounding in nature, agrarian society, and the mythologized past.
and that's why your average fighter boy protag in a fantasy anime's theme is a celtic rock reel
"what's musicology grad school like" we watched anime clips in class today
#sasha speaks#srb#recapitulation#interestingly in anime scoring irish music has retained its gendered style divisions (reels for men airs and ballads for women)#in a way that moden irish music has largely fallen away especially since the popularity of riverdance#also also apparently irish culture at large (pubs st patricks day and actual traditional (non japanicized) irish music) is very popular#over in japan with a very dedicated community both of fans and of participants (ie language learners and musicians)#but that's less directly linked to anime#it's very interesting wrt the conversation of cultural appropriation in art/music esp as thay conversation exists in the english speaking#west today. like irish influence has been present in japanese music for so long now (and deliberately presented as Authentically Japanese)#that it's not really widespread knowledge that there's so mucchh angloceltic influence#or even just straight up unaltered angloceltic folk songs just given a new set of lyrics in translation#anyway. much to think about. VERY funny sitting in class and the lecturer pulls up a hatsune miku track

Every now and then I think about how subtitles (or dubs), and thus translation choices, shape our perception of the media we consume. It's so interesting. I'd wager anyone who speaks two (or more) languages knows the feeling of "yeah, that's what it literally translates to, but that's not what it means" or has answered a question like "how do you say _____ in (language)?" with "you don't, it's just … not a thing, we don't say that."
I've had my fair share of "[SHIP] are [married/soulmates/fated/FANCY TERM], it's text!" "[CHARACTER A] calls [CHARACTER B] [ENDEARMENT/NICKNAME], it's text!" and every time. Every time I'm just like. Do they though. Is it though. And a lot of the time, this means seeking out alternative translations, or translation meta from fluent or native speakers, or sometimes from language learners of the language the piece of media is originally in.
Why does it matter? Maybe it doesn't. To lots of people, it doesn't. People have different interests and priorities in fiction and the way they interact with it. It's great. It matters to me because back in the early 2000s, I had dial-up internet. Video or audio media that wasn't available through my local library very much wasn't available, but fanfiction was. So I started to read English language Gundam Wing fanfic before I ever had a chance to watch the show. When I did get around to watching Gundam Wing, it was the original Japanese dub. Some of the characters were almost unrecognisable to me, and first I doubted my Japanese language ability, then, after checking some bits with friends, I wondered why even my favourite writers, writers I knew to be consistent in other things, had made these characters seem so different … until I had the chance to watch the US-English dub a few years later. Going by that adaptation, the characterisation from all those stories suddenly made a lot more sense. And the thing is, that interpretation is also valid! They just took it a direction that was a larger leap for me to make.
Loose adaptations and very free translations have become less frequent since, or maybe my taste just hasn't led me their way, but the issue at the core is still a thing: Supernatural fandom got different nuances of endings for their show depending on the language they watched it in. CQL and MDZS fandom and the never-ending discussions about 知己 vs soulmate vs Other Options. A subset of VLD fans looking at a specific clip in all the different languages to see what was being said/implied in which dub, and how different translators interpreted the same English original line. The list is pretty much endless.
And that's … idk if it's fine, but it's what happens! A lot of the time, concepts -- expressed in language -- don't translate 1:1. The larger the cultural gap, the larger the gaps between the way concepts are expressed or understood also tend to be. Other times, there is a literal translation that works but isn't very idiomatic because there's a register mismatch or worse. And that's even before cultural assumptions come in. It's normal to have those. It's also important to remember that things like "thanks I hate it" as a sentiment of praise/affection, while the words translate literally quite easily, emphatically isn't easy to translate in the sense anglophone internet users the phrase.
Every translation is, at some level, a transformative work. Sometimes expressions or concepts or even single words simply don't have an exact equivalent in the target language and need to be interpreted at the translator's discretion, especially when going from a high-context/listener-responsible source language to a low-context/speaker-responsible target language (where high-context/listener responsible roughly means a large amount of contextual information can be omitted by the speaker because it's the listener's responsibility to infer it and ask for clarification if needed, and low-context/speaker-responsible roughly means a lot of information needs to be codified in speech, i.e. the speaker is responsible for providing sufficiently explicit context and will be blamed if it's lacking).
Is this a mouse or a rat? Guess based on context clues! High-context languages can and frequently do omit entire parts of speech that lower-context/speaker-responsible languages like English regard as essential, such as the grammatical subject of a sentence: the equivalent of "Go?" - "Go." does largely the same amount of heavy lifting as "is he/she/it/are you/they/we going?" - "yes, I am/he/she/it is/we/you/they are" in several listener-responsible languages, but tends to seem clumsy or incomplete in more speaker-responsible ones. This does NOT mean the listener-responsible language is clumsy. It's arguably more efficient! And reversely, saying "Are you going?" - "I am (going)" might seem unnecessarily convoluted and clumsy in a listener-responsible language. All depending on context.
This gets tricky both when the ambiguity of the missing subject of the sentence is clearly important (is speaker A asking "are you going" or "is she going"? wait until next chapter and find out!) AND when it's important that the translator assign an explicit subject in order for the sentence to make sense in the target language. For our example, depending on context, something like "are we all going?" - "yes" or "they going, too?" might work. Context!
As a consequence of this, sometimes, translation adds things – we gain things in translation, so to speak. Sometimes, it's because the target language needs the extra information (like the subject in the examples above), sometimes it's because the target language actually differentiates between mouse and rat even though the source language doesn't. However, because in most cases translators don't have access to the original authors, or even the original authors' agencies to ask for clarification (and in most cases wouldn't get paid for the time to put in this extra work even if they did), this kind of addition is almost always an interpretation. Sometimes made with a lot of certainty, sometimes it's more of a "fuck it, I've got to put something and hope it doesn't get proven wrong next episode/chapter/ten seasons down" (especially fun when you're working on a series that's in progress).
For the vast majority of cases, several translations are valid. Some may be more far-fetched than others, and there'll always be subjectivity to whether something was translated effectively, what "effectively" even means …
ANYWAY. I think my point is … how interesting, how cool is it that engaging with media in multiple languages will always yield multiple, often equally valid but just sliiiiightly different versions of that piece of media? And that I'd love more conversations about how, the second we (as folks who don't speak the material's original language) start picking the subtitle or dub wording apart for meta, we're basically working from a secondary source, and if we're doing due diligence, to which extent do we need to check there's nothing substantial being (literally) lost -- or added! -- in translation?

CREATING A STUDY SCHEDULE/ROUTINE
PLANNING/SCHEDULING
LIST YOUR ACADEMIC STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES. This is so you can allocate time accordingly and avoid wasting any time.
PRIORITISE ANY SUBJECTS. These may be subjects that will help you in your future career or just a subject you especially want a good grade in. Anything for these subjects then becomes the most important on your to-do list.
DIVIDE TIME EACH DAY. Not all days you are going to be able to sit down at your desk at the same time. Instead, according to your energy levels and planned activities, divide your time.
E.g I have cheerleading after school and I'm going to be so tired, so I’ll do my studying in the morning instead.
ESTABLISH BREAKS. Depending on how long you can study for, place a suitable break in between. This helps make studying more productive, but only if your breaks are.
CREATING
USE YOUR TIMETABLE. On days you don’t have a specific subject, dedicate more time to that one.
CONSIDER YOUR LEARNING STYLE. This helps to be a bit more specific when creating it, instead of winging it and just doing anything. Having a consistent way of studying helps us learn better.
E.g I’m a visual learner, so I’ll watch animations. I'm an auditory learner so I’ll watch a video of someone explaining it.
KNOW WHAT YOU WILL DO DURING STUDYING. Do not just wing studying, it’s unproductive and you’re more likely to waste time instead of using it.
Before you start studying, write a to-do list of everything you need to do during that session and how you will do it. Less time time-consuming and allows you to use time productively.
SAMPLE – this is Lanny’s daily study routine without any upcoming tests, as an early bird, kinesthetic learner and needs breaks to think with clarity.
Morning
Review my flashcards in preparation for any test.
Write/note any flashcards I'm struggling with.
Afterschool
Check seqta/school website to access my courses, in which I’ll write down which subjects I had.
Do a few quick blurts on paper of everything I learned in those subjects with prior reading. I only do this for HASS, math and science + any electives that require it. (blurting method)
Then I recheck my blurts, add in anything that I’ve missed and correct with a different coloured pen.
After, I push those papers aside but I do not discard them. I’ll then complete my online science homework + class workbook. If I happen not to understand anything I’ll watch a video on it and then complete some questions on that.
I’ll take a break around now because, on an estimate, it has been around 20-40 minutes since I started depending on how my science homework is. I usually eat something and then get back to it.
Math is next. I’ll complete any math homework, then I’ll practice doing math questions on my own. What I like to do is watch a math video, pause the question without the answer then watch to see if I got it. Effective because they explain it and I can see where I went wrong without analysing my working out which is rather time-consuming.
I take another break. Math stuff usually takes around 20-30 minutes.
I then do HASS, which is the easiest. I usually read an article or watch a video on hass then apply that knowledge by answering questions OR doing assigned chapter work.
I do not study English after school, but I usually read an assigned passage/book and then try to apply any techniques/knowledge by taking that paragraph apart and analysing it. Sometimes, I write my paragraphs using any taught techniques and then mark them.
Then, I redo my blurtings again but without prior reading then recheck and correct. Then I am finished for the afternoon!!
Evening
Review flashcards then watch a video/read an article on what I was struggling with in the morning but I do not do anything to consolidate this knowledge.
That is all, please feel free to ask me about any questions about studying as I don't really post much about it, I'll love to help out any fellow students!

leon’s nsfw alphabet [re2 version]
࿐ ˚ . ✦ warning(s): definitely +18. explicit sexual content/descriptions of male & female bodies. [my english is a warning on its own, as always.]
my masterlist request are OPEN
A = Aftercare (What they're like after sex)
Oh this man is THE best at this, he's so attentive and knows exactly what you need simply by looking at you. He's gonna clean you up, feed you, cuddle you (he loves post sex-cuddles to death), and whatever else you need. If you're not used to being pampered to that point, you'll probably feel a bit smothered by his affection. But don't be, he means well, he's just trying to show his love.
B = Body part (Their favourite body part of theirs and also their partner's)
The man is obsessed with you. Utterly. He likes everything about you, from head to toe, including those things not even you like about yourself. He likes your hair, your eyes, lips, your tits, hips, god... your thighs, your ass and of course, your pretty pussy. But he's not shallow, never will be. He appreciates you entirely.
About himself... Leon would probably choose his arms, his hands or his back, mainly because it's where your hands trail around more often, and he's proud you like his physique.
C = Cum (Anything to do with cum basically.)
He is pretty responsible, let's state that. He knows that getting you pregnant by accident is literally the last thing you two need at the moment (unless things are stable and you two have talked about it.) He'd use a condom by default, however if you're on the pill, he'll drop the condoms in a flash, wanting to fuck you raw.
He likes to finish inside you, whether it be your mouth, pussy or wherever you're taking him, since he claims there's nothing better than that feeling.
D = Dirty Secret (Pretty self explanatory, a dirty secret of theirs)
Leon is a switch, so it's not rare for you to take the reins every now and then, especially when he’s tired after a long day. — However, deep down Leon wants you to completely take over, at least once. To control down to the last detail, the position, pace, if it's sensual or rough, to make him hold back his orgasm until you're ready to take it, or overstimulate him to the point he's a blabbering mess, simply because you don't want to get off his cock.
E = Experience (How experienced are they? Do they know what they're doing?)
Up until that point in his life, Leon is very in sync with his emotions. He's not the type of guy who sleeps around, he needs an emotional bond or any sort of feelings to have sex with someone, which meant he wasn't very experienced when he met you.
Still, he's a quick learner, it wasn't long before he picked up on what you liked and got really good on it. He knows what angles you like for him to fuck you, exactly where to curl his fingers when he's fingering you, and how to twirl his tongue around when he's eating you out.
F = Favourite Position (This goes without saying)
He's a simple man, he's not gonna go for the most eccentric position or anything pulled out of the Kamasutra. He likes to look at your face while he fucks you, it feels more special and intimate for him, makes him feel closer to you. Plus, looking at your face makes him get harder.
Missionary is his to go position, with your legs over his shoulders when it gets rougher. But... if you ride him? He's gonna go straight to heaven.
G = Goofy (Are they more serious in the moment, or are they humorous, etc)
He will occasionally say a thing or two that will inevitably make you chuckle or giggle, but he doesn't take intimate moments as a joke, he's really into it, he takes pleasuring you and himself seriously, since it's something very important for both.
H = Hair (How well groomed are they, does the carpet match the drapes, etc.)
Leon honestly couldn't care any less about it. He keeps himself trimmed or shaven if you ask him to be, but he has no problem with body hair, he thinks it's natural. As for your body, he'll like you no matter what you do, it's up to you and your comfort. Hair or no hair, he'll love you and fuck you either way.
I = Intimacy (How are they during the moment, romantic aspect...)
(Let me pretend RE2 didn't happen like that for a sec) Ever since he began working at the Police Department, he was considerably busier, or more tired than he used for be when he was just at the Academy. When you are having sex is one of the few moments where you two are completely alone and able to enjoy each other's company. So it is a pretty big deal to both. And you better believe he's gonna make the best out of it.
J = Jack Off (Masturbation headcanon)
He doesn't have much time to do it nowadays, and whenever he feels the urge he always restrains himself from acting on it, wanting to wait until he's with you. He doesn't see the point of using his hand (which doesn't compare to you at all) and being selfish when he could just go home and bury himself in your pretty pussy, offering both of you pleasure and orgasms.
K = Kink (One or more of their kinks)
Leon has experienced a bit but not enough to know all the things he likes yet, he's discovering it with you. All he knows is that he gets off on praise, both giving and receiving. It makes him feel even better when he knows you like what he's doing to you, makes him feel confident.
He's also into overstimulation, even if he doesn't do it consciously. He just likes to pleasure you as much as possible, making you cum as many times as he can, and the poor guy doesn't even notice your poor pussy cannot take another orgasm. He means well though, and he stops when you ask him to.
L = Location (Favourite places to do the do)
He's not into risky stuff (yet), so your bedroom or apartment is the best place for him, where he feels more comfortable and at ease, free and willing to let loose and fuck you like you deserve to be.
However, if the urge presented itself and it was impossible to ignore, he'd be willing to fuck you in your car. Nothing riskier than that, because of course, he's a police officer and has to set an example, right?
M = Motivation (What turns them on, gets them going)
Oh, this one it's easy. Everything. You turn him on. You don't even have to try sometimes, you just have to be yourself, walk like you do, sway your hips, laugh with that beautiful laugh of yours, or kiss him with your pretty lips. And God... if you wanna get him going really fast? Kiss his jaw, or his Adam's apple.
Oh, and also? When you hold on to his biceps when you kiss him, pressing your body against his, that'll turn on a switch inside him instantly.
N = NO (Something they wouldn't do, turn offs)
Sharing. He really, really doesn't like to share, especially not you. Also, nothing that will cause you any sort of pain, he'd hate himself if he ever hurt you.
O = Oral (Preference in giving or receiving, skill, etc)
If there's one thing Leon loves is to come back home and have you welcoming him by dropping to your knees and taking his cock in your pretty little mouth, giving him the head of his life, sucking away all the worries he had along the day.
But more than anything he loves to give. Leon is definitely a giver, it's in his nature to serve and help others, and this definitely transfers to the bedroom.
If it were up to him, he would eat your pretty pussy for breakfast, lunch and dinner. He likes to eat you in all the positions possible, while you lay on your back, while you're on all fours and from behind, and if you're up for it? He's a happy man if you ride his face or sit on it. He's obsessed with how you taste, and damn... the way you moan and whimper his name gets him harder than anything else.
P = Pace (Are they fast and rough? Slow and sensual? etc.)
He always fucks you in the perfect pace, depending on what you both need that day. If you two were tired, then slow, sensual sex is the way to go, a slow roll of his hips into yours as he mumbles praise into your ear while he rubs your clit with one hand and rolls/pinches your nipples with the other.
If you two are in desperate need of release, then he's gonna be faster, his hips thrusting harder into yours, his grip on your body firmer as he pounds into you, chasing your orgasm and his.
Q = Quickie (Their opinions on quickies rather than proper sex, how often, etc.)
He's needy. Not that he'll ever admit out loud. Which is why this is conflicting, he doesn't like to risk getting caught that often, but at the same time he's sometimes so fucking horny for you he can't keep his dick down, so if the opportunity presents and it's not too risky, Leon will never turn down a quickie. At least not when it's on a decent moment. But most of the time he forces himself to keep it in his pants, at least until you're back home where he can fuck you properly.
R = Risk (Are they game to experiment, do they take risks, etc.)
He's willing to experiment in the bedroom as long as you want it too, and as mentioned before, as long as you're not at risk. If it involves harming you, then he's gonna need some time to get courage to do it; even with your consent. For example: Spanking, choking, tying you up... all of that, it's gonna take sometime for him to warm up to it.
S = Stamina (How many rounds can they go for, how long do they last...)
His stamina has increased noticeably since he began training for the Police, so he can last two to three rounds, and it's up to you how long these last, but if it were up to him, he'd be at it all night, with some breaks of course but he doesn't tire easily.
T = Toy (Do they own toys? Do they use them? On a partner or themselves?)
Leon doesn't own any, but if you happen to own some, then he'd be down to use them on you while you have sex, with the purpose of teasing the life out of you, but he'd never, ever let you cum because of them— what kind of boyfriend he'll be if he lets you cum around some piece of plastic and not on his fingers, his mouth, or even better, his cock? He's always gonna finish the job himself.
U = Unfair (how much they like to tease)
The truth is that he teases you without noticing it. He doesn't think too much of it when he walks shirtless around the house, when he flexes his biceps doing random chores, or when he grunts and groans while he works out. Oh... but when he catches on? He's gonna continue teasing you until one of you both breaks. (It's more often him than you, though, man's pussywhipped lowkey.)
V = Volume (How loud they are, what sounds they make)
He's not exactly loud, but he's not quiet either. He's not shy about moaning, or praising you, and if you’re really close to him, you'll maybe get lucky and hear a whimper or two.
W = Wild Card (Get a random headcanon for the character of your choice)
Leon set himself the rule that you have to cum at least two times before he even allows himself to feel any sort of pleasure. Not only because he wants to make sure you're completely satisfied, but because he wants you nice and wet when he slides inside you. Simple man of simple pleasures.
X = X-Ray (Let's see what's going on in those pants, picture or words)
He's a good 8.5 inches, which is impressive. However Leon doesn't get cocky or brag about it, and if you compliment his size he'll just chuckle and downplay it (even if deep down he knows he's big.)
Y = Yearning (How high is their sex drive?)
He's stressed all the time, to be fair. And as if he wasn't already a man with high libido by nature, his stress transforms into even more libido, so he's horny and needy all the time, there's no point in lying. Sometimes he's in the middle of his shift, and can't stop thinking about how badly he wants to fuck you, or eat you out— he constantly has to remind himself to get it together.
Z = ZZZ (... how quickly they fall asleep afterwards)
Leon is only able to fall asleep once he feels you sleeping in his arms, comfortable and safe. His heartbeat will sync with yours, and he'll bury his face in your hair or neck, depending on the position, the feeling of your breath against his skin, your heartbeat, your warmth... it's the perfect lullaby to send him to sleep.

ミ★ quick learner 🜸
pairing: student! gojo x reader
summary: to you, chemistry means two things – the worst subject on earth and the best feeling ever. satoru somehow teaches you both.
word count: ~2.0k
notes: suggestive. modern au. mentions of organic chemistry. making out. guest appearance by geto. gojo calls you 'smart girl' at one point. rushed. barely proofread. written while i was half asleep. like always, reblogs are very very appreciated.
a/n: i genuinely don't know how i feel about this one... there are parts i like and parts i don't like (that i was too lazy to fix) and it's kinda just stitched together ... lmk what you think in the comments pretty pls 💞
"question four – what's the difference between molarity and molality?"
"wait, those are two different things?"
since you and satoru had both procrastinated studying for your impending chemistry test, you found yourselves at the library long past midnight.
it was an accident – when you had decided to study in the library instead of at home, you hadn't anticipated running into anyone you knew. but of course, satoru gojo, the charismatic guy in your english class, was here too.
you wouldn't say that the two of you were close – acquaintances was a better word. satoru and you knew of each other and were on friendly terms, but until now you had never really taken the time to talk alone.
but hey, just because you didn't know the guy that well didn't mean you were about to turn down a free study partner. especially one as attractive as satoru, although it was admittedly a bit distracting when you were trying to focus on your work.
it wasn't his fault – his long, white lashes were just naturally mesmerizing. and his eyes? breathtaking. even in the dim light of the library, his eyes shone like crystals. you didn't even want to start thinking about his hands, his jawline, and certainly not his body, otherwise you'd be studying something else the whole night – him and his stupidly attractive self.
after a ton of mental self-chiding, you finally manage to get your priorities straight and actually try to study, but what started as a study session gradually turned into a tutoring session when you two realized that one of you needed a lot more help than the other.
and to your dismay, that was you.
"you really thought molarity and molality were the same thing?" satoru scoffs, shamelessly grinning. "y'know, it's really a miracle you have an A in the class. you don't deserve it."
"shut up," you reply, knowing only too well that he was right. the only reason you were able to maintain a good grade in this stupid chemistry class was because the teacher offered a ridiculous amount of extra credit.
but unfortunately, you couldn't float on that boat for much longer. your grade was still slowly slipping, from a 95 to a 93 to what was now a flat 90, and your pride wouldn't let that number fall any further.
satoru laughs and shakes his head, running a hand through his white hair. "c'mon, at least tell me what molarity is."
"uhh, that's moles per liter, right?"
he nods and twirls a pen in between his fingers. "yeah, that's right. now what's molality?"
"how should i know? i don't pay attention in class," you groan, resting your head in your palm.
satoru rolls his eyes, and you take a moment to appreciate how gorgeous they are. they were a color somewhere in between cerulean and ocean blue, further enhanced by his long white lashes.
your admiration quickly fades to indignation when satoru clicks his tongue and starts rattling off some dictionary definition of molality.
"y'know, you'd know more if you weren't on your phone the whole time in class," he says dryly.
you groan again and lean back in your chair. "it's just so boringgg," you whine, pushing the chemistry worksheet away. "forget it, i'll just guess on the test tomorrow. it usually works."
as you start to sweep your pencils and papers into your bag, satoru grabs your wrist and gets you to meet his ocean-blue eyes. "i'll feel bad if you do badly because i didn't help you enough."
his grip on your wrist is firm but gentle as he leans a millimeter closer. "let me help you, yeah?"
after a beat of silence, you nod and look away. his glacial eyes are piercing in the kind of way that makes you think he can see right through you, and you don't like the feeling of being readable.
"so, am i gonna have to force you to pay attention or will you do it yourself?"
the question catches you off guard. something about the way he asks it makes it very clear that it's a genuine question – either you can try and make yourself focus or he can make you.
you don't quite know what the latter means, but it sounds more fun, so that's what you pick.
and that's how you ended up on his lap, hair wrapped around his fingers as he quizzed you from behind.
satoru had somehow motivated you to actually try and study by rewarding you with a kiss for every question you got right. had the offer come from anyone else, you would've called them a creep, but satoru was attractive and he knew it. on top of that, he wasn't afraid to use his good looks to get what he wanted, which, in this case, was for you to do good on tomorrow's test.
"avogadro's number?"
"umm, 6.022 x 10 to the 23rd?"
satoru nods and kisses the side of your face, lips trailing over your jawline as his eyes flick back to where he'd scribbled a couple practice questions.
"how many bonds can hydrogen form?"
"one."
this time, his lips touch your neck, and it takes every ounce of self-restraint in your body to hold back the embarrassing sound you can feel at the bottom of your throat.
"last question, how many bonds can carbon form?"
this time, your voice comes out breathier than you expected. "four, right?"
"smart girl."
and now, for the first time this night, he gives you a quick kiss on the lips. he doesn't linger and he doesn't give you any chance to savor the taste of his lips – one second his mouth is pressed to yours, the next it's moving with words you don't quite absorb.
he rifles through a couple papers and makes a face. "actually, my bad, there's more. not much," he quickly adds when he sees you groan. "just some stuff we didn't cover completely at the beginning."
"you're the worst."
"you'd fail without me."
"maybe, but at least i'd be happier."
despite your playful jabs, the truth that studying with satoru was a lot more bearable than studying by yourself, and it was also a lot easier to stay awake. before you knew it, two hours came and went, and you were practically an expert on everything that could possibly be on the test tomorrow.
and when you're finally able to confidently tell satoru the difference between molarity and molality, that's when he turns you around on his lap to face him and presses his lips to yours again, and this time, he doesn't pull away.
"you're a quick learner, aren't you?" satoru mumbles against your lips. he pulls back for a second to get some air before grabbing your chin and leaning in for more. "yeah, i wonder what else i could teach you. you wanna find out, pretty?"
you're not entirely sure when the studying ended and the making out started, but you certianly do know when the making out ended.
before you could reply to satoru's rather suggestive question, a message blared from the speakers around the library and interrupted whatever you two had going on.
" it is now closing time. all remaining students, please return to your residential places immediately."
satoru chuckles and nudges you off of his lap before standing up and stretching. "well, it's almost 3, we should get some rest."
"yeah, that's probably smart."
"of course it is. i'm smart."
"yeah yeah," you mumble after a second when no better retort comes to mind. probably because he was telling the truth – satoru was smart, and he knew it.
"well, i'll see you tomorrow," he says, sweeping the remainder of his stuff into his backpack before slinging it over his shoulder. "good luck on the test, you'll do great."
you smile and zip up your own backpack before heading towards the exit on the other side of the library, his words buzzing around your head and the memory of his mouth fresh on your lips the whole way home.
"satoru, satoru! guess what i got on my test!"
after you made your way home from the library last night, you slept like a rock. barely a minute after you tiredly stumbled into your oh-so welcoming bed, you were out.
despite only getting around five or six hours of sleep, you felt pretty damn good the next morning as you sat down to take your chemistry exam. and that good feeling stayed with you the whole test, and when you finished, you were able to confidently set your paper on your teacher's desk.
well, as confidently as anyone could set a piece of paper down anyways.
but now it was lunchtime, and a soft chiming sound from your phone signaled that the test was score and put into your grade. your hands shook slightly as you tapped the notification, but to your delight, a 97 lit up your screen.
and of course, who else could you credit with this besides satoru? so you walked over to where you'd seen him hang around during lunch and called out his name, but you really hadn't anticipated company.
"ah, satoru, who's this?" the dark-haired boy beside satoru asked, voice light with interest. "have you been seeing someone and not telling me about it?"
satoru laughs and shoves the guy's shoulder before turning to you and grinning. "sorry 'bout him. yeah, what was your score?"
he has a lollipop in his mouth, and as he raises an eyebrow at you, you feel yourself grin as you proudly say "a ninety seven! my grade went up to the mid-ninties, too!"
"smart girl. knew you could do it," satoru says, a lopsided smile spreading across his face.
"it's only 'cause of you," you say, a bit sheepishly. "without your help, i wouldn't've been able to do that."
satoru exhales a laugh and reaches out to ruffle your hair. he looks like he's about to say something before the other guy clears his throat.
"sorry to interrupt your... moment, but the lunch line is starting to grow and my patience is starting to shrink. satoru, you coming?"
"yeah, give me a sec, suguru."
satoru looks back down at you, sunglasses resting on the tip of his nose and cerulean eyes flashing in the sunlight. "looks like i gotta go."
you nod and wave him off. "yeah, i'll see you around, i guess. thanks so much for the help, really. i owe you one."
satoru grins and pulls the lollipop out of his mouth. still looking at you intently, he runs his tongue over the lollipop one last time before sticking in your mouth.
"you wanna pay me back for tutoring you last night?" satoru asks, smirking at the surprised look on your face. "drop by my place tonight. i'll teach you something else this time."
he leans in and gives you a quick, sugary kiss before turning away and walking in the direction geto left in, leaving you with nothing but a tingling sensation in your lips and a promise to see you soon.
satoru laughs to himself as he walks away, waving one hand back at you without bothering to turn around. when he catches up to suguru, the latter notices the wide smirk satoru dons and asks about it.
"oh, it's nothing. just looking forward to tonight."
you were, too.

“Okay, meet me after class if you have any questions!” Gojo-sensei announced, wrapping up the last lesson of the day. As the other students filed out, you lingered, intentionally slowing down while packing your things.
Gojo-sensei turned to you with his trademark bright smile. “Do you have a question for me, L/n-san?”
“Yeah, I do. Just give me a second,” you replied, moving to lock the classroom door. Your ever-gullible sensei didn’t think twice about it; he always saw the best in people, especially his students. Little did he know, he’d soon come to regret that.
You walked toward him slowly, each step measured, and he didn’t think anything was amiss—perhaps you were just nursing some leg pain. As you approached, you slipped behind him, resting your hand lightly on his shoulder. Leaning in, you whispered seductively into his ear, “Hmm, anatomy questions…”
His face turned bright red in response. “O-oh, but I’m an English teacher. Maybe you should ask Nanami-sensei; I’m sure he’d know!”
You leaned in closer, your bodies touching. “No, I’d prefer to ask you. You know I’m a visual learner,” you smirked, letting the tension linger between you.
He quickly moved away, putting some distance between you. “Haha, um, I need to go. I’ve got some things going on at home, so see you soon, L/n-san,” he said, trying to slip past you.
Before he could escape, you grabbed his wrist. “But we’re not done yet.” With a firm pull, you drew him toward the desk, guiding him to the comfortable teacher’s chair and pushing him down into it.
He let out a high-pitched squeak, his face flushing bright red. If you didn’t know any better, you might have thought he was on the verge of a stroke. You pulled down his pants leaving him clad in his Spiderman themed boxers before pulling those down too, his dick sprung up as you watched precum seep from his tip. "L/n-san we shouldn't be doing this!!" Your sensei squeaked out but you cut him off with a brief lick to his tip.
You held onto his member bringing a long lick up his shaft all the way to his pretty pink tip before deep throating his whole length. Sucking on it you felt him go limp to your touch. You went even deeper letting his tip explore the crevices of your throat before pulling out and sucking on to his balls which caused your sensei to let out a whimper. Going back to deep throating his member you brung both of your hands to twist and play around both his cock and balls before deep throating it one last time allowing him to release into your mouth.
“Spit it out! Spit it out! It’s dirty!” your sensei pleaded, his face flushed bright red. Instead of obeying, you swallowed, watching as he brought his hands to his mouth in shock.
“Yuck!” he exclaimed, his eyes wide.
You shot him a warning glare. “N-no, not yuck! Never mind, sorry!” he stammered, backpedaling in embarrassment.
He was about to start pulling his boxer back up before you stopped him and started pulling down your skirt along with your underwear which the act alone pulled a yelp out of your sensei. "L/n-san I- I haven't done this before plea- AH" He let out the most high pitched moan as you sat down onto his girthy cock. You brought your arms around his shoulders holding onto him as you bounced up and down his cock emitting yelps and whimpers out of your sensei, you started rotating your hips around his member which made him let out even more cute little whimper and incoherent words.
“Gonna—ah, g-gonna cum, gonna cum! Oh my god, s-shit!” You watched his beautiful blue eyes roll back as you bounced and rode at an even faster pace, you felt his hot liquid paint your insides before continuing to bounce on him even more which made his eyes shoot open.
“N-no more! Ah, it hurts! Can’t do more, can’t!” he whimpered, tears spilling down his cheeks, his small, cute pout contrasting with the distress on his rosy lips.
You bounced and rode him even faster chasing your release. After a few more bounces on his dick you felt him tense up beneath you before warmth enveloped your insides as he came for the third time that
day.

Any advice for first language English speakers trying to learn Welsh?
sacrifice yourself to y ddraig goch and ascend into her kingdom of fire
Diolch yn fawr iawn! I'm a second language South Walian myself, so my Welsh is gonna be different to a first language North Walian, for example. But, we roll with it.
Start small
I don't know if you're in Wales, or elsewhere, but just introducing little Welsh phrases is a good place to start, like greetings. Don't worry about making mistakes, or being misunderstood. Everyone will know what you mean, and most people will be pleased you're using Welsh!
Hello - Shwmae/Helo
Good bye - Hwyl fawr
How are you? - Sut dych chi? (very formal), Sut wyt ti? (less formal)
Thank you (very much) - Diolch (yn fawr)
Please - O's gwelwch yn dda
Good morning - Bore da
Good afternoon - Prynhawn da
Good night - Nos da
Welcome - Croeso
If you ARE in Wales, look out for people wearing little orange speech mark badges in public places, like shops. These mean they are fluent, or learning Welsh, and will be happy to talk with you in the language.
2. Understanding pronunciation
Sometimes English speakers get tripped up by Welsh spelling, especially when mutations are involved. You've probably heard the old "it's just a keyboard smash language!", when honestly Welsh makes more sense than English (every letter is pronounced the same every time, unlike English, where it's a lottery).
Here's some major-ish differences to the English alphabet:
a - "ah" (apple)
ch - like a gutteral cat hiss? Or like you're trying to get phlegm out of the back of your throat.
dd - "th" (these)
e - "eh" (elephant)
f - "v" (velcro)
ff - "f" (fantastic)
i - "ee" (queen)
ll - like you're blowing air out the side of your tongue, while the tip is just behind your teeth. May take some practice, but it's a VERY common sound
r - roll that letter, baby. like an Italian
rh - like a breathy r. Use your teeth
u - "ih" (hit)
w - "ooh" (spoon)
y - "uh" (under) or sometimes "ih" (inside)
(there is no j, k, q or v in the Welsh alphabet. But that doesn't stop some anglicised words like "jam")
3. Mutations
Mutations are ways Welsh words change, depending on what comes before or after them. There are loads of mutations, but you can be understood without using them/forgetting them, so don't worry too much. They're quite easy to learn too.
For example:
Diflas - Boring
Mae Owen yn ddiflas - Owen is boring
The 'd' changes to a 'dd'. Because mutations. Don't ask me why.
Here's a guide to mutations that can explain it better than I can.
4. Find some sick Welsh media
Maybe you're into podcasts, or soap operas, or rock music, or food blogs, or children's books, or Eisteddfod poetry, or-
HERE'S SOME HANDPICKED STUFF FROM YOURS TRULY:
Hansh on Twitter, YouTube and iPlayer - comedy and more platform. Quite random.
Adwaith - Welsh-language, all-female, indie rock band from Carmarthenshire. Won the Welsh Music Prize in 2022.
Duolingo Welsh course - Recently, Duolingo announced they were going to stop updating the course, which led to some BIG OUTCRIES in Welsh news. Worth looking in to.
Learn Welsh - resources, schemes, audiobooks and more to help people learn Welsh in a way that suits them. 16-25 year olds can learn for free. You can book face to face lessons, online self-learning, learn with other learners, search courses near you and loads of other stuff. Good to explore.
Ap Treiglo and Ap Geiriadur - free apps to help with mutations and vocabulary. Ap Geiriadur is designed by Bangor University.
Siarad - Voluntary scheme to help people increase their confidence using Welsh. You're matched with a fluent Welsh speaker, and can go through three levels of proficiency. You arrange to meet up, or learn online - whatever suits you!
S4C - The Welsh language broadcasting service. Has everything: news, Gogglebocs Cymru, drama, documentaries, you name it.
Doctor Cymraeg - really successful tiktok and instagram account. Teaches about bitesized Welsh language facts, vocabulary and funny things. Also always films them when out on a walk, with the expression of a high school teacher who's just watched his pupils try and fail to make the leaning tower of pisa out of gluesticks. Classic.
5. TYMBLR
There are LOADS of people learning Welsh on here for the first time, and interacting with them is one of the best ways to get into the language online. #dysgu cymraeg is a good tag.
Sorry for the long post, but ta da! I am by no means an expert, but with your help anon, we can get everyone speaking Welsh by nightfall. The plan is in motion. Godspeed.

Okay I don't know if this is a good place to ask, sorry if it's random or annoying! I'm trying to learn Welsh for study purposes (goal: read Mabinogi) and I'm wondering if y'all can recommend any welsh-language podcasts or audiobooks? Especially medieval-adjacent ones, because brain gremlins. Thanks! (I hope this isn't annoying.)
Hey! Not annoying at all, it makes me so so happy when people ask this question!! Welsh is still an endangered language and a really underappreciated literary culture, please learn and read Welsh and tell other people about it!
Now I've had this ask before but the Tumblr search function continues to be garbage so I'm just gonna start again.
The Learn Welsh Podcast is super useful, as is Y Podleidiad Dysgu Cymraeg from BBC Radio Cymru. You could also check out Doctoriaid Cymraeg.
The fiction podcast We Know None has a little Welsh language in it, as does @ethicstownpod. And Gather the Suspects, Seren and Chain of Being are all from Welsh creators, so I recommend them!
Audiobooks are a bit trickier - because Welsh is endangered there aren't as many. This said, the bookshop Y Lolfa is an amazing Welsh language book store that has a few Welsh language audiobooks, and you can access it online. It also looks like Audible has a 'Welsh language' section of audiobooks - a quick glance and I think the books by Colin Jones should be a good start. They're fantasy rather than real mythology but designed for learners.
Always check the reviews, as sadly due to Welsh not being as widely spoken as it once was, sometimes these things will be made with bad pronunciation / mistakes, and might take you down the wrong track.
Also just a note - the original language of the Mabinogion is Medieval Welsh, which is quite different to modern Welsh. However you can find translations of it into modern Welsh and English.
And finally - it's not an audibook, but there is now a Welsh language edition of The Hobbit, Yr Hobyd, if you want to try that!
Happy learning, thank you for the ask!
