Rewatching Double Life and hearing the absolute rage in Tango's voice when the ranch is burned down by Scar.. and then you hear Jimmy trying to calm him down with small uncertainties and soft nothings....THIS IS CINEMA
#Like in Tango's perspective oh the clear growling in his throat and him planning Scar's death..like can we PLEASE get a round of applause#It's even crazier when everyone around him start to acknowledge how angry he sounds and Jimmy is just trying to comfort him#Especially when he's still in disbelief like wow..peak cinema#I LOVE RAGE#double life smp#rancher duo#tangotek#jimmy solidarity#nics.txt

You do have to kinda see how from the Hermits perspective, they are just worried and want to make sure everything is okay (when y'know 'are you okay' can be responded to with 'can you be more specific')
Cub is Vex too tho, right? Could he shed any light on anything? Or is he as clueless as Scar was at the start?
Also thinking about the fact that Grian CAN take time alone now, without much inherent worry about safety. That probably feels like a privilege now.
Also also something about can both of them learn to be vulnerable around their friends again after so long not being able to?
-🎀
the hermits' perspective is so interesting, yeah. like, they're just so concerned! they don't know anything! they were missing them so much and now scar and grian are back but they came back Wrong, and the hermits have so many questions! and they want to help! none of it is meant badly. genuinely, they're just worried and doing their best.
(wow, someone trying to do their best only to fail spectacularly. it's like hmtb all over again. cue war flashbacks.)
grian can take some time alone, yes. it's a whole new concept. scar has to remind himself that it's okay. that even if grian is Out There and out of his sight, he's fine. there are respawns and nobody is hunting him and it's going to be okay...
the anxiety still strikes. they still don't tend to be apart for long.
but they can do it.
in the bit i talked about, grian just flies off. which, again, is a new thing! (old-new. re-newed? something.)
... as for cub being a vex. yes. he is. he's the first person to instantly realise grian and scar are mated. he snickers about it to himself. he might make offhanded comments.
he does help scar, though.
he's there for him to talk him through confusing times. his one person to trust despite all the harrowing things they went through. the one to not look at his vex side as something monstrous and strange. the one to understand him even without scar having to scramble to defend himself.
if you wanna know more about cub and scar, go ask link! <333
and yes, scar and grian are going to have a long journey, learning to trust other people again. trying to be accepted for who they are now, and finding their place here. reclaiming their home and their family.
#ange answers#ribbon anon#hhau#scar and grian are going to struggle so much#with that concept of trust and vulnerability#and the other hermits only ever want to help#but they do mess up many times#and don't always make things easy#scar and grian especially struggle because of [REDACTED]#.... sorry <3333#but yeah they find trust and belonging so hard#especially since the hermits sort of expect them to be someone they're not anymore#but their perspective is so understandable!!#they're worried and want to help and#they want their friends to heal and be who they were!#(happy. they were happy once.)#they don't know what scar and grian went through#it's all so tricky

I've been creeping around some old posts like a... creeper. Anyway, your tag game is seriously everything! What you wrote about the appeal of 'big daddy era' Elvis, the juxtaposition between being and seeming, the longing but not feeling deserving, the creeping horror that his vulnerabilities are getting harder to hide... My god, you had me by the heart! After so many years, I don't tend to cry over the tragedy of that man, my sorrow and empathy have healed into a hard callus and I veer round it because it feels like picking at a sucking wound, but you cut me back open in such a beautiful heartfelt way!
All this to say, I could read your thoughts and discourse all day.
🥰🥰🥰 hELLO JADE??????? stoppp ittt i can't take any more of this you have me giggling and blushing already !! and this praise coming from YOU of all people.. Oh Help 😩💘 even as i was writing those tags i was thinking i couldn't quite articulate everything i meant to properly, so to hear that it came out not only coherent but resonant, and Especially with such an accomplished bde writer as yourself is praise of the highest order.!
the funny thing is, just minutes before i saw this ask i was rereading ch 3 of an enjoyable slide to oblivion and thinking "that'S IT !!! that's exactly what i was talking about !!!" 🤭 chancy being repeatedly struck by how different elvis is from the man she once knew, the way she sees peeks of his "real" self under the persona but then second-guesses herself and wonders which one is more truthful, if either.??? it's EXACTLY the kind of complicated relationship w image i was trying to describe.!! 🤩
of course, elvis in all his eras serves as a beautiful mess of contradictions- masculine yet feminine, innocent yet salacious, clever yet naive, cocky yet needy, bossy yet pleading, larger-than-life yet lonely, personable yet introspective... but by far my favorite way to explore this complicated nature is through the lens of the mid-to-late 70s. it's the time when the most negative parts of his personality are out in full force, and yet it's also the time during which it's most apparent that he was desperately in need of a care and affection he wasn't getting. even elvis at his worst is still impossible not to love, and that always really speaks to me.!
#ask#bde has my whole entire heart and soul in those big gentle hands of his and its not even close#i dont have as much willpower as u do my dear#i am constantly picking at this scab until i have a whole ugly mess of painful scar tissue left behind 😭#i imagine my shit would be sooo much more together if i didnt still cry about him on a regular basis and Yet-!! dfgh#its the time i think he was most truly himself from a visibility perspective#simply bc he grew out of the casual maintenance of his facade#all of his innermost thoughts and feelings and insecurities are most visible to us at that point in his life#especially through all those handwritten notes... ✍#help me lord to get through all of this#sad to think that the time his privacy shouldve been most important was the time he was under the most public scrutiny#and yet even if we can only lift him up in hindsight i like to think that he wasnt so alone as he thought 💌

Also keep in mind the timing on Grian's manually operated TNT trap on the portal. Scott saw it immediately and ducked to the side, sparing him from most of the damage. Gem had no time to move and got it head on, bringing her way down and taking dozens of hearts. Impulse came in last and didn't hear Scott's warning but was only hit by the aftershock. Grian's trap just happened to maximize damage on Gem, but if he had gotten either Scott or Impulse head on instead they would have instantly died. That's how much damage it did.
And Cleo left, which was honestly probably the best outcome for Scar not only because he got the hearts, but particularly because Gem and the Scotts would have taken her out much easier than Grian, and regained some of that power. If they had all been at 30 hearts Grian would have won which is mind-boggling. Gem would have died on impact, and Grian would have had enough health to finish off Scott and Impulse cleanly and they wouldn't have had as much time to chug apples.
Everyone left on that server knew that they needed a seven person alliance just to take on Grian, and I thought it was overkill at first because I mean, with Gem and Pearl's hearts, Scott's track record, Scar's thorns, and especially Gem, Scar, and Joel's PVP skills and stacked gear, it seemed like a no-brainer that they would take the win against Grian in any sort of fight. And they still nearly didn't.
All four of them had their season end because of that fight, even though only Grian died.
*Secret Life Spoilers*
This is a bit late but the gravity of how absolutely terrifying Grian was in the Secret Life Finale just truly Dawned on me and I had to come here to Rave (yes with a capital R) about it.
90 hearts. I counted he took 90 hearts -not including golden apple hearts- from Gem and the Scotts with both his trap and fighting them. Even if you deduct the 10 that Gem gained for killing him that's 80 hearts permanently gone from what was possibly the most well off team on the entire server before that point.
And to make matters more shocking Grian had no time to use golden apples in his 1v3 and only had 22 hearts whereas Gem and the Scotts ate golden apples while teammates provided cover. Before this Gem had 48 1/2 hearts, Impulse had 30 and Scott had 35 1/2. After Grians trap and fight gem had 5(+10 for killing Grian), impulse had 7 1/2 and Scott had 11 1/2. Like what!?!? That's insane.
If he'd gotten 2 or 3 good hits on either Gem or Impulse they would've died that's how close he got to gaining 10 more hearts and prolonging his fight -or perhaps even winning it. I am still in shock from this and every time I think about it I seem to unearth some other fact about it and just feel astounded all over again.
Also GO SCARRR WHOOO. He really deserved that win he played it real smart.
#I am just as shocked about this#And man has it been really sinking in after watching everyone's perspectives#I hit Grian's first out of the four of them but when I saw Impulse's next my jaw dropped.#Then I watched Scott and Gem and holy macaroni sticks#Watching those rows of hearts just flash and disappear as Gem gets hit with the TNT and then launched down was gut wrenching#So so so good!#This man singlehandedly stopped those three straight in their tracks#The Mounders had so little chance with Bdubs being low Pearl counting herself out for her alliance and Joel setting off all those traps#I genuinely thought it was going to come down to Gem and Impulse and Scar in the end#Maybe Scott and Pearl if they didn't sacrifice soon enough for their alliances#Gem making it so far after that fight is a testament to her ability though because third is incredible after the position she was in#And especially being faced with a 2v1 against her after#And Scar man#Obvious MVP this season#It was so thrilling!#Some things like Tango going out first were obvious but the way the finale shifted so suddenly was startling#No regen really made this a different season requiring a different skillset and that was so cool to see

babies!?!?!
simon ghost riley x reader
"Aw I can't wait to see the two of you with your own little one running around." Your sister gushes as Simon balances her baby on his lap while you play with your nephew.
At her words you and Simon give eachother a side eyes. A smile tugs at the corner of Simon's scarred lips, whilst you puff out an airy laugh.
The whole baby conversation was nothing new, and because you and Simon had been together for so long, people were quick to assume that the both of you would start thinking bout having children of your own.
Your sister didn't help, always cooing and awwing about how Simon was so good with the kids, especially your neice.
A large hand rests on your lower back, "Nah, we have our hands filled with Johnny." Simon sniggers, laughing more when you elbow his side. The baby in his lap looking up at him in surpise at the deep noise that emitted from the usually quiet man.
"But it would be so cute. Imagine having a little one that looks like the both of you-" You sister starts to go on her usual ramble about what your kids could potentially look like, how adorable it would be to see the both of you with kids of your own.
Later that evening, at your shared apartment, Simon chuckles as you walk over to where he's sat on the couch, "Looks a bit like you doesn't he?" Simon drawls.
You turn and the asshole has his large hand wrapped around your ginger cats face, his head turned to you. Despite the cats purring and tailing flicking in content, you scowl and wack Simon over the head. "Don’t hold my baby like that!" You snap, settling beside Simon, who releases your cat. The cat settling in your lap.
And in true ginger cat fashion, the very cat who was once purring in content in Simon's hands, scratched the very man who tried to pet him again.
"Scratches like you." Simon huffs, pulling his hand away.
You just chuckle, eyes locked on the four legged creature that bouncrd into the room, "And Riley doesn't listen, like you..." You chime in amusement, watching the dog.
Simon turns his head to the German Shepherd and scowls once he see the mask hanging from Rikey's mouth. The dog having the audacity to wag its tail.
"Fuck sake, Riley, I said no!" Simon growls getting up from the couch and chasing after the dog that barks and runs away from the man.
You watch in content as your cat purs in content in your lap while Simon chases the dog around the apartment.
From this perspective it seemed like you already have your own little one running around doesn't it?
a/n: on my anti-baby agenda lol these the only babies i want in my life oop x

How do you feel about Milsiril? Like what do you think of her interactions between the canaries, her goals, her intentions and morality? I keep seeing people with mixed feelings about her, some saying she's just toxic or morally grey or doing bad but with good intentions or that she's just a mentally ill and literally so much more, also with the comic about Otta calling Milsiril love for her children/Kabru as just love for a pet, I always saw people take it at face value and say yes, Milsiril did love them more as pets instead of children, did she take up raising/adopting non-elf children because she felt like none of them could ridicule her like the elves did because they didn't know what an elf was supposed to be like (and also because they were children) or did she inherently view them as less? I mean the canaries and I'm pretty sure almost all of the cast in dungeon meshi have some sort perspective on different races especially because how they were taught about them, i just think it was interesting to finally see someone interpret it as Otta just misinterpreting Milsiril, I'm just really interested in her, i think shes neat, sorry for the rant!
Ooh, well to preface this, I hadn't really realized Milsiril was such a controversial character before my last post, I kinda live under a rock. She's really not a character I had given much thought besides what I wrote there before it, but I can do my best to express what I have thought since, with sources for it. I'm not sure what order to go thru so I'll just go by manga appearances and then extras, this will probably be quite a long post
This is the first time she shows up in the manga (ch55) Kabru is wondering about what future they might have if the elves take them into custody because of the ancient magic, he thinks about Milsiril as a get out of jail card, and mentions "There's a chance they would make us become permanent resident of the elven lands." with the image of Milsiril holding him. I don't think that means she would be the one to not let them leave, since this would probably be an legal issue, and the fact Milsiril lives away from other Elves. It does set up that Milsiril is quite overprotective tho, with Kabru's reaction to her teary hug. (rest is under a cut)
The next time she shows up is in ch61 right after Kabru falls down the dungeon along with Mithrun, he faints and has this flashback
She's being her overbearing self treating Kabru's small injury as if its something you need to be in bed for, hand feeding him like he's a toddler, and when he insists he wants to learn how to fight and be strong like her, she hugs him revealing to us for the first time her arm scars, she's cleary in distress too, so you wonder "what has happened to her?"
It continues in the next pages, as she tells him to stay there, where it's safe and there's cake, and describes the bad things he might encounter. Until he tells her he will go with or without her help
Honestly this is a Kabru we don't see often, this is the version of him that is usually in thought bubbles, he's blowing out in frustation over being smothered and demanding straight up what he wants, instead of trying to manipulate Milsiril, very blunt for him. Milsiril seems to flip a switch into battle mode, when she decides to train him for real.
I really thought this was funny, the visual of these cuddly toys and this Mom that was being so soft just a second ago completely flipping into something menacing is very amusing to me. She says "I'll give you an exhaustive, thorough training in how to use a sword... until you finally decide that you're ready to give up." although it sounds cruel, it seems she really trained him as best she could to make sure he would survive the dungeon. If he couldn't take the training with her there was no way he would be able to take on the dungeon, but he could, so much so that he managed to make her let him go. I can see this being seen as her trying to prevent him from going but to me it seems more like some tough love from a traumatized war veteran in this case.
The last thoughts he has is admitting his Mom was right, "Not only were there plenty of traps, monsters, and malice... but there were times when I felt so hungry and cold that I couldn't stand it."
And he concludes with "I never once thought that I wanted to go back there. That room where I could eat all the cake that I wanted..." While I can understand the interpretation that he means he would rather go thru all this than go back, perhaps cause he hated it there, I think it's rather a statement to how committed he is to defeating the dungeon, the visuals show him in rubble vs him in a soft big bed, the rough reality he fought to be able to face and the comfyness of what his life could be. Plus is mirroring exactly what Milsiril said to him. Admitting she was right about the bad things but that he won't give up for the safe easy life he had.
After that visuals of Milsiril are used while Kabru tries to sus out Mithrun but she shows up again in Mithrun's backstory.
Here she's straight up called Gloomy, which wasn't really the version of her we saw so far, gotta remember this is also how Mithrun saw her and that she was called gloomy as a way of bullying. Kabru mostly cuts off her part in the story until the end, when she's the one to find Mithrun after he was eaten by the demon
She doesn't really care much for Mithrun as we see in some extras, and she was ready to mercy kill him, but she is also the one to spare his life. This could be seen as her thinking he can still be of use, and it's how it sounds with how Kabru tells the story, but I do think this was also a merciful act, Mithrun was in rehabilitation for 20 years after being saved, by the time he was actually useful for anything Milsiril had already left the canaries and adopted Kabru.
Now for extras... About Mithrun/The Canaries, Milsiril was cleary someone that hated the people around her. This is her extra in the Adventurer's Bible
Milsiril seems to be the type that hates "popular kids" so to say, her description says she was bullied by other elves for being so introverted so I believe she holds a grudge against people like Mithrun that seem to have succeeded where she failed. But realizing he was a twisted person like her seemed to make her feel more sympathetic towards him, that's why I think she really did act with mercy when she saves Mithrun, he's now someone she sees as similar to her, she sees he also suffered like her
Her decription also mentions she left the canaries specifically because she was disgusted with how the Utaya situation was dealt with. Yet it seems like she came back to help Mithrun with his rehabilitation once she quits.
There's an interpretation to be made that she did this only to get "revenge" on the demon since she just saw the destruction of Utaya, and that she's using him. On the other hand maybe she wants to help him find a motivation to live, she's no longer a canary and she has time to actually help him now. I don't know which one is the truth but it's not obviously something self-serving if you ask me. Especially in the context that right before this scene Milsiril admits she wishes they could have talked before.
My interpretation of her relationship with the canaries and other elves is that she's someone depressed that was mistreat for her 'quirky' side, the dolls are clearly one of the ways she used to cope with anxiety/depression but it only caused her to be bullied by her own kin, she's the daughter of an important family and it's shown in other extras, including one about Mithrun, that nobles often send out the kids they don't want around to become canaries. It's an easy way to get rid of someone undesirable and I think it was the case for Milsiril. (Pattadol even assumes her parents love her less than her sisters for sending her to join the canaries).
No wonder than that now that she's finally free from the canaries she chose to seek her own happiness away from the society she felt she could never fit into, she clearly likes to take care of children too, I think it's mean to assume she only likes them because she feels superior to them when there's no indication that this is the case.
And I don't think it's a coincidence she's so overprotective of Kabru after Utaya, it's literally the tragedy that was the breaking point for her, and he's a surviving small child from that tragedy, Milsiril cares about Kabru and wanted him to have a comfortable safe life after everything he went thru...
This ended up getting way too long so I'll make second part tomorrow about the rest of the extras and Kabru, and some other things I've seen said about Milsiril, but to answer the questions...
I don't think she treats her children as pets, Otta is just salty she was called out for dating like Leo Dicaprio.
Every single dungeon meshi character can be called morally grey because they all have flaws that in our world can be considered unforgivable, but they don't live in our world. To me Milsiril is doing her best in the context she lives in.
Who even is neurotypical in dungeon meshi, Milsiril is yet another flavour of a neurodivergent traumatized character among so many.
I believe she thought of the other canaries, especially Mithrun, as the same type of people that were cruel to her, probably because some of them really were, but that she generalized it to the point she thinks of all of them as bad by default. You can only get hurt so many times before you assume everyone will hurt you.

Why Tim Drake Sees the Bats as Co-Workers and Not Family (Tim Drake is a Fenton)
aka a follow up to this post, on why tim calls the bats coworkers because I think it's the funniest thing ever
It’s not that Tim hates the batfam. If anything, he has a grudging respect for them. They’ve saved his life (and Gotham’s) more times than he can count. But to Tim, that doesn’t make them family.
Here’s the thing: Tim already has a family.
Growing up as a Fenton, Tim knew what family meant. Jazz was the protective big sister who made sure he ate, slept, and survived middle school. Danny was the chaotic younger brother who still cared enough to make sure Tim didn’t feel overshadowed. Even his parents, as wildly eccentric as they were, loved him with the kind of unapologetic enthusiasm only Jack and Maddie Fenton could pull off.
Sure, they weren’t perfect. They panicked after Danny’s death-and-rebirth-as-a-ghostly-superhero and left Tim with Aunt Janet Drake, thinking they were protecting him. But they called. They checked in. And once they realized how bad things were with the Drakes, they worked to make amends.
Tim never stopped being a Fenton, no matter how far Gotham took him from Amity Park.
So when Bruce Wayne swept in with promises of training, teamwork, and trust, Tim didn’t see a new family. He saw an opportunity.
————
The Batfamily Dynamics:
The Batfamily operates on trauma and duty. Everyone has scars, and everyone has a mission. That’s how Bruce connects with people—through the shared pain of loss and the relentless drive to make Gotham better.
But Tim’s mission was never born out of personal tragedy. He didn’t lose his parents to crime or see Gotham as something he had to save. He joined because someone had to. Batman was falling apart after Jason died, and Gotham was suffering for it. Tim stepped up because it was the right thing to do—not because he wanted to fill some emotional void.
And that’s where the disconnect lies.
For Bruce, Dick, Jason, Damian, and even Cass, Barbara and Steph, being part of the bats means finding family again. It’s their way of healing. But for Tim, it feels like replacing the family he already has.
————
Tim’s Perspective:
To Tim, the batfamily is a job. A very dangerous, very complicated job, but a job nonetheless.
Bruce isn’t his father. Dick isn’t his brother. Jason isn’t his big-brother-who-died-and-came-back (that spot was already taken by Danny). They’re teammates, coworkers, and maybe even friends. But family? No.
Because family is Jazz sneaking him snacks during his stakeouts. Family is Danny sending sarcastic texts about “ghost-proofing” the Batcave. Family is Jack and Maddie trying (and failing) to make sense of his vigilante life while showing up with enough ectoplasm-based cookies to fuel an army.
Family is messy, chaotic, and full of love.
And while the batfamily might be chaotic, the love feels conditional—wrapped up in the mission, the masks, and the unspoken rule that Gotham always comes first.
————
Why Tim Doesn’t Want a Second Family:
And then there’s the second layer—the one Tim doesn’t say out loud.
To Tim, having a second family feels like betraying the one he already has. Like admitting that Jazz, Danny, and the parents who tried so hard to fix their mistakes weren’t enough. And they are enough.
Tim doesn’t need another family. He doesn’t want another family. The Fentons are imperfect, but they’re his. If he started thinking of the batfamily as his own, it would feel like he was erasing the people who already mean everything to him.
It would also make losing them hurt more.
The batfamily’s world is dangerous. Gotham is dangerous. And if Tim ever let himself think of them as his family—as more than coworkers or teammates—it would make every death, every injury, and every failure cut that much deeper.
Tim’s already had to grieve once, when Danny died. He barely survived it. He doesn’t think he could go through that again, especially not in a world where loss is inevitable. Keeping the bats at arm’s length is self-preservation as much as loyalty to the Fentons.
————
Does It Hurt the Bats?
Absolutely.
Dick wants so badly to be Tim’s big brother. Jason finds it hilarious, but even he bristles at being labeled a coworker. Damian sees it as a betrayal of loyalty. And Bruce—well, Bruce doesn’t say much, but the tight line of his mouth speaks volumes. Tim doesn't even want to think about how Cass probably already knew, and how much it had still hurt her nonetheless.
But Tim doesn’t change his stance. Because at the end of the day, the bats aren't his family. They’re his team, his coworkers, and maybe even his friends.
And that’s enough.

Damian Wayne Headcanons
————————————————————————————————
[General Headcanons:]
Damian knows a lot of languages so he can and will use them to confuse his siblings (and once on Bruce. Note: This did not work, Bruce started speaking the same language.) in arguments. He will fully switch to a completely different dialect in the middle of a sentence, he’ll go from English to fluent Latin.
Damian definitely isn’t a touchy-feely person or a praising man, so he usually expresses himself through quality time or acts of service. He does care, he’s just had the aspect of “showing emotions is weakness” so beaten into him that he’s just doing everything subconsciously.
I feel like Damian does take time out of his day to actually hang out with his siblings, whether by (begrudgingly) going out with Dick or hanging out with Jason in one of the many libraries in the manor in silence. He does want to be around his siblings, he just won’t admit it as stated before.
Damian is always happy whenever he gets to have authentic food from where he was raised before arriving at Wayne Manor, it makes him smile a bit when Alfred makes it for him, even if it has to be changed a little due to his vegetarianism.
Damian, as Robin, is both a strike first, ask questions later type but also a strategist at the same time. Nobody understands how.
[Romantic Headcanons:]
When it comes down to romantic relationships though, he will definitely not be any different in the first few months of dating, he’ll be cold and blunt as ever but there is a hint of softness to everything he does, plus you’ll find honestly beautiful portraits and drawings in your bag or room at times.
After a few months of dating he’ll let you actually hold his hand in public, although he definitely doesn’t look happy about it (he’s happy, he just has a resting bitch face).
Damian definitely doesn’t tell you about his night life as Robin for a long while, he’s afraid you’d look at him differently and be scared off by it. It takes him probably more than a year, maybe even two, to actually tell you of his secret identity, and even longer to tell you about his true past with the League of Assassins for the same reasons he was afraid to tell you about his life as Robin.
He absolutely has petnames for you in different languages.
If his multitude of pets love you, you’ve just become absolute wife/husband/spouse material in his eyes, especially if you also love animals.
Damian is low key really sweet towards his partner, but it really doesn’t look like that from an outside perspective, from someone else’s POV, Damian looks uninterested and cold towards you, but you can see the small things, the way his thumb runs across your knuckles as you hold hands and how he is keeping his eyes on you.
Damian would be hella embarrassed if you traced any of his scars, it is absolutely one of the best ways to get him to shut up or blush brighter than a tomato.
Damian likes listening to your heartbeat, it’s like he’s reminding himself that you’re real and actually with him. He’s afraid of losing the people he loves and cares for so he does certain things to remind himself that it’s all real.
To leave off on a soft note, Damian’s kisses are always soft and sweet, like he’s savoring every moment of it, he always involuntarily smiles into kisses as well.

Alan Rickman, David Thewlis, Gary Oldman and all those are iconic in their roles in Harry Potter, but I’ll always be a bit sad about that casting, because having that ‘Marauders era’ cast be age appropriate would’ve just been so much better for the story.
Sirius wasn’t this old man who spent 12 years in Azkaban, no he got locked up at 21. He spent almost third of his life in a cell. He wasn’t this wise father figure to Harry, he was a reckless thirty-something who never really got the chance to mature past 21.
Remus was an exhausted, bone deep tired man carrying both physical and mental scars from the suffering he went through. Because he’s a werewolf, because of the war, because he lost all of his friends. And he’s only 33 when first introduced.
And Snape. Snape wasn’t an old bitter man who just hated everyone and enjoyed being antagonistic. He was 31 in Harry’s first year. He began to work for Voldemort as a teen, and as a double agent at 20. He’s a thirty-something bitter man, who never got to really live or make real connections. From Harry’s perspective he’s scary and intimidating, but really he’s just kinda…sad and pathetic. And then especially that scene where Snape is begging Dumbledore to help save Lily, and promising anything in return. (Because apparently Dumbledore needs something in return…for saving people.) He’s twenty. Barely out of his teens. Rickman was good in that scene, but having someone who actually looks twenty, would better show how scared, young, guilty and just desperate he was. That might not put Dumbledore in such a good light, though.
And then, the characters I think would’ve been the most important to cast age appropriately. And most people probably already agree and know who I’m talking about. James and Lily. They were 21 when they died. When Harry sees them in the mirror of Erised, they’re 10 years older than him. That’s the age difference Ron has with Bill. In that scene I might understand somewhat them being in their thirties, because that’s what Harry wants. He wants his life with his parents, he wants to have been raised by them. Though, I don’t know if the mirror could know what they might’ve looked like in their thirties, since they didn’t live that long. But then, in the cemetery when Voldemort’s wand spits the last spells cast, we see Lily and James as they were. 21. They’re telling their son to hold on just a moment longer. And they are 7 years older than him. In Deathly Hallows, Harry sees Voldemort kill them. They’re not this happy couple who’s got to love each other for a long time, only to have that happiness torn from them, no they started at Hogwarts ten years ago. They’re 21, and they’ve barely tasted that happiness. At the end of the book Harry talks to his parents. They comfort him and promise to stay with him, as he goes to die. Harry’s seventeen. James and Lily are four years older than him.
It wouldn’t have felt as nice. Harry being comforted by someone who looks almost his age. But it wasn’t nice. It was pretty tragic. Casting people who look 21, would’ve really made it land on the audience. It was a tragedy. They were barely adults.

So so excited to share my @mcytblrholidayexchange gift for @follow-the-compass-home! My concept was to combine a bunch of prompts together into one AU.
The premise is a modern-fantasy roommate situation where Tango, Bdubs, and Etho live together in an apartment. The only issue is that none of them are human, but they're all trying desperately to blend in, even though they don't really understand humanity as a concept.
More information can be found below the cut, and an introductory fic snippet can be found here (x)!
Downstairs Neighbors AU
Prompts used as inspiration:
Focus on Tango, Etho, and Bdubs
Include Boatem
Story told from Grian's perspective
Hybrid/inhuman AU
Angst with a happy ending
Emphasis on character dynamics
Here's a summary!!!
Tango, Etho, and Bdubs found each other by looking for roommates on Craigslist. They live in a 4-bedroom apartment together.
Tango is a spirit who wanted to interact with the world in a physical sense, so he built himself a body. He's basically just a ghost possessing an android (but unlike ghosts, he was never alive; he came into being as a fully-formed spirit). He doesn't adhere to normal bodily necessities like food, water, or sleep, which is convenient but also heavily concerning from an outsider's perspective.
Etho is a specific kind of shapeshifter called a mimic. He doesn't have a true form, but can copy the shape and mannerisms of most living creatures. The only constant across all of his appearances is a scarred left eye and white hair. Unfortunately, it takes practice to nail specific species characteristics, so he often forgets what he's supposed to look like and falls into uncanny valley. He wears a mask to cover his more noticable facial slipups.
Bdubs is some sort of plant creature (he doesn't really understand it himself). He has a perfect internal clock and sleeps, without fail, for 12 hours every night. He spends a lot of time in the unoccupied bedroom-- he uses it as a makeshift greenhouse, and it's filled with grow lights and humidifiers. He loves taking care of houseplants, but it's also a cover for him to spend time under the grow lights. Without enough light & water he gets lethargic.
Bdubs, Etho, and Tango, henceforth referred to as BET, all assume that the others are human. But since none of them know how to act human, they continuously pick up stranger and stranger habits from each other.
BET are close friends with Impulse & Skizzleman, who live together across the hall. Their upstairs neighbors are Grian, Pearl, Mumbo, and Scar, who are also besties with Imp & Skizz. BET and Boatem don't know each other well, but Grian especially thinks his neighbors are really odd.
Like BET, Grian is not human, and neither are the rest of his roommates. But they all know about each other, and Grian especially is really good at knowing how to act natural in public places. He's an avian shapeshifter, who can take the form of either a scarlet macaw or a human. Unlike Etho, both forms come equally naturally to Grian, and the shapeshifting process is a lot easier for him.
(Imp & Skizz are not human either-- they are a demon and an angel respectively. But, like Grian, they're really good at blending in when in public.)
One day, Grian gets injured on a flight and accidentally ends up on BET's balcony instead of his own. He's too disoriented to shift back into his human form or fly away, so Bdubs and Etho find him outside their door. Tango calls Impulse over in the hopes that he knows how to fix the random-injured-parrot crisis, but the only result is that Grian and Impulse start to truly take note of how strange their neighbors' living situation is. Incidents like the one pictured above arise (i.e. everyone finding out that there is not a singular scrap of food to be found in the entire apartment).
Ok that's all the rambling I'll do in this post, but I hope you enjoyed! Happy holidays!!

Konig is mean as shit to a reader with any sort of immature interests. you play Pokémon? What are you, fucking five? You should play a more challenging game like dark souls. Definitely makes fun of you for any stuffed animals you have, especially if you keep them out. He thought he had a partner, not a fucking baby. (he chooses to pointedly ignore the fact that he definitely chose a younger/more immature s/o because they’re easier to manipulate)
(Nerd/Loser!Reader x Mean!König)
Mean!König will ridicule you for liking childish things, like your collection for plush toys, or the boring and unexciting games you choose to play that have no thrill. Oh, you still collect teddy bears and keep them on your bed? How old are you again?
He's so cruel and hurtful with his words and tone when he talks about your unique and unusual interests. When he catches you playing Pokémon, Minecraft, or Animal Crossing, he'll scoff and roll his eyes loudly, enough for you to hear while he lingers and towers behind you, talking about how old kids play these games, not adults. You're so argumentative when he makes these snide and snarky comments, how defensive you become when you're mocked and taunted for having different interests.
He hates the teddy bears you have, how much room they take up. He thinks they do nothing but collect dust. He'll smack them and will throw them off the bed when he comes over to make room for himself, chuckling at the reaction he earns from you and how frustrated and furious you become when he mistreats your prized possession. You spend hundreds on limited edition figurines, only for König to pick and prod at you for wasting money on them. You dislike people touching your figurines considering how expensive they are, let alone abusing them and throwing them around like they're some toy... Uh, well...
You're significantly younger than him, a little more immature and irresponsible. You're in your twenties while König is quickly approaching his forties, with wrinkles already forming on his scarred face and grey hairs caused by his stress. People don't even assume you're in a romantic relationship, their eyes widening when you kiss each other in public and get overly touchy. Not that König's a fan of PDA in the slightest, but he's fuelled off of the disturbed and judgmental glares he receives from others who view him as a freakish and perverted monster.
You're a lot more immature than him, still collecting plush toys and figurines from your favourite games. Your mind is so easy to morph and shape, especially with how intelligent König makes you feel when he explains things to you (and yes, he mansplains...). He'll completely change your ideology and perspective on things to fit his, to satisfy himself.

doctor azul ashengrotto who treats you after a horrible accident. he tells you the accident injured you so severely that you may never be able to speak again. something about near-fatal trauma to your larynx. you're lucky to be alive.
for a while, the area around your throat is bandaged as the wound from surgery heals. eventually, the stitches are removed and you're left with a nasty scar, a reminder of a day you can hardly remember now. you spend a lot of time doing all kinds of therapies, both for your body and your mind. you use other means to communicate: text-to-speech or a pencil and paper. you're learning how to sign and azul's learning with you. sometimes it's difficult to live without your voice, especially when there are moments in which you desperately wish to speak, but the support from your friends and family helps brighten your spirits. especially the encouraging words from your dear azul.
in light of the tragedy, you've come out of it with a fresh perspective on life. and, happily, you've fallen in love! azul is the best. so sweet. (and you're not just saying that because he saved your life.) you've been together two years now. in a few months, it will be three. you think he might propose. it's hard to tell and azul is so secretive when it comes to surprises, but you've picked up on his evasive behaviors, the way he seems so nervous, always preoccupied with something that he just can't tell you about when you ask.
and he does propose.
but you don't go into it with a light heart. you go into it knowing that azul, the man who saved your life, who has been your number one supporter through everything, who has assured you countless times that even without your voice you are still so wonderful, is the same man who took it away in the first place.
because you arrived at that hospital with a perfectly intact larynx. in fact, there was never any damage to that area. that's what the old report stuffed away in his folder of important documents says.
now you're left with a terrifying thought: if azul could ruin your larynx so successfully, without any legal backlash or trouble, and cut it out of you in a risky attempt to keep you wordlessly silent forever, what else is he capable of doing?
you think about this while you watch him fidget anxiously on one knee, propping open a velvet box with the prettiest ring you've ever seen.
before all of this, who was azul to you? if you think back far enough, you'll find he was nothing because, before the accident, you'd never known he worked at the hospital you frequent.
so then you have to wonder: how long has azul known you when you weren't even aware of his existence to begin with?

My night was going so wonderfully.
The headshot of this cover is just PAINFUL. They're actually acknowledging each other, they're the only ones on a cover to do that. And it's the prominent detail that Mizi looks horrified staring at Sua, even though they're clutching each other so... like they can't let go, while Sua looks reverent in the lane of that gaze, even blushing, slightly, savoring the moment. This also looks like their kiss scene...
To me, she looks just the same as the day she died because I think this cover is Sua's haunting of Mizi, because Sua's singing is just that, haunting and distant the longer she sings, she's fading out, but so gently despite its gruesomeness. And Mizi is grieving.
She's as angelic as she is in Mizi's memories..
But there's a cruelty to this because Mizi will never forget what she saw in round 1, that's why seeing Sua over and over and over again terrifies her, hence why the tone of this song is SO dark, especially in the second half when they're coming to a close, they get desperate to keep each other close, and there is a certain, but familiar ignorance to Sua's presence as if she can't see Mizi's pain even though Mizi is crying right in front of her--childish egos, Sua becomes a more honest character after her death, and in more expressive formats like this, and I like how she takes on that position in this song, the taker. (Like Till, he wanted a security blanket out of Mizi; Sua is similar in that sense.) as she takes and wants from Mizi for her own sanity.
And this newest illustration, oh my god. EXPRESSES THIS IDEA PERFECTLY, Sua looks so utterly distant, ghostly, dead.
In contrast to Ivan and Till's cure, Mizi and Sua's cure is more of a duet, and they switch places often. Mizi starts the song, she ends the song (just like in my clematis), and Sua supports it. Whereas Ivan and Till take turns leading and harmonizing, Mizi and Sua both participate.
And I believe they're interacting? Ivan and Till's cure wasn't a message to each other, something a lot more complicated than that--but Mizi and Sua transition frequently and it feels like they're singing to each other, It's more intimate.
Mizi - Allow me, to the tips of your finger
Allow me, to the ends of your feet
Dissolve me in your gaze
I don't want to let you go.
Sua - Please, leave me scars
Please, hurt me so that not a singly drop of me remains
Let me drown in you.
(The backing vocals mean so much to me, it's like a choir(?))
Mizi - Until these falling stars
Are buried in the blur of time
On your icy lips
Read my soul, yes, my soul
It wasn't spontaneous for the sake of it either, because this is a call-and-response
Sua - Even if your cold words
Carve scars beneath my eyes
May they linger on your tongue
You can break me apart
Mizi - Notice my pain
And mend me right now
To quiet my fears
I'll drown in you
-
Mizi is directly asking Sua, or the version of her she can't forget, to stay with her, calm her like she used to, as she wishes to have remained in the dark, to drown in her, or to have just not been left alone and, because even now Sua's death is not something she can accept, the portrayal of her feelings as she expresses her pain and desire to keep Sua close, even the false presence of her "On your icy lips" and "notice my pain and mend me right now" even though It's terrifying her, she doesn't want to let go.
Sua acknowledges Mizi's pain, and their shared pains after she died for her, the blame and the betrayal. Interestingly, Sua takes on the metaphorically self-destructive lyrics, Sua lives in fear, anxiety, and utter gloominess, she didn't want to be hurt by Mizi in the literal sense, but she would've rather been warmed in Mizi's soft light, her false hope and optimism, to be destroyed and to destroy Mizi's hope, even dying as the penalty of their love was far better.
Then Sua goes on to sing through the perspective of Mizi and her loneliness and grief after losing her with perfect clarity, it takes me back to the comic where Ivan scolded Sua about her plan, saying that she'd be nothing more than a trauma to Mizi after everything is said and done, she got upset at Ivan because she knew that, was devastated by the fact that she would be a burden just as she always feared, but then, what's a life without Mizi by her side, her only safety net? Her every reason for living?
This song displays their deep love and devotion, they sound melancholic but even in these horrific circumstances, Mizi's pain and hesitance, they don't drown each other out, they move together in perfect harmony just like they always do, in this way, it also feels like an apology of sorts from both sides before the bitter end, and a final goodbye.
AND THEN AT THE END WITH THE PERFECT SYNCHRONIZING OF THEIR VOICES ARGHH
And a new Sua illustration for the occasion 😭💔 (I'm gonna catch you soon Vivinos just wait.)
#brain vomit: Sua never looks worried about Mizi when she's in distress because--in death she's much more open. She has a childish ego.#--And cares for herself. Often leaving Mizi in the dark and unintentionally hurting her for her own security.#The dead don't talk but the feelings say it all#alien stage#alnst#alien stage mizi#alien stage sua#alnst mizi#alnst sua#makes me think beta ivantill wouldve had more of this vibe since they reciprocated#AGRHHH I LOVE YOU MIZISUA CURE#TILL ALL IN#FUCKKSSKSKDKFHEE#RHEHHHE#EXPLODES ALL OF THEM#THEIR VOICES ARE PHENOMENAL SERIOUSLY#can someone come over here and match my tragedy#IM SO SAD ABOUT THEM#hehhrhehehhe#mizisua#alsnt mizi
