Dear Sephiroth: (a letter to a fictional character, because why not) #320

Today, J and I woke up at approximately 6:30am to go on an airplane trip to a faraway place in western New York. It's a place called Great Valley, NY, and it's almost 5 hours away from my house by car.

…It's only 2-2.5 hours away by little airplane, though!!!

Last time we planned to go out there, we couldn't go because J had a hard time starting the airplane, and getting the equipment to get it to go cost us too much time. Today, however, we already had the equipment! And, though it took longer than J would have liked to get the engine to cooperate, we were still able to make it to the place just in time to catch the flight instructor who taught J how to fly a tailwheel airplane! We'll call him Fl!

Fl seems to be very fond of J, and that is natural because J is absolutely fucking delightful!!! The two of them had lots of very excited conversation about J's new plane; Fl seemed very happy about the make and model, and the fact that it's well-maintained and in good condition!

We got there a little too late for Fl to be able to stay with us for very long, though. The original plan was for us to have breakfast together at the nearby small fly-in restaurant, but Fl had to be on his way. Still, J and I went to the nearby place; it was called Katys, and their menu had SO MANY EPIC-LOOKING THINGS!!!!

...I'll show you what we got!!!

This was their regular coffee. I put sugar and half-and-half in it:

...The swirling fluids look kinda like some kind of gas giant planet, don't they...? It tasted just as good as it looked!!

This was their seafood stuffed mushrooms:

...They were filled with crab and some other stuff, and then covered in alfredo sauce - absolutely heavenly!!! I've never had stuffed mushrooms with alfredo sauce before, but I can confirm that it's definitely a stellar combination!!

This was an open-faced steak sandwich on garlic bread, with "sidewinder fries":

...And there was an ale cheese to go with it!!!

...And J got a burger melt!!

Naturally, I couldn't finish everything, so I packed up the rest and brought it home for later! It's in the fridge, and it's gonna make a great breakfast tomorrow!!!

...I wish I could have shared more than just pictures of my lunch with you. This was some of the best stuff I've eaten in a long time.

Anyhoot! I'm sure you've been waiting for the pictures of the scenery, right? Lemme grab up some of the best ones:

...We didn't get back home until around 7pm. By then, I had spent a long time in the plane, and the chill from that is still in my bones!!! My body dislikes the cold very much, and due to the fact that I've had to resist it all day, I'm pretty tired.

...Also, it's like 11pm right now. I'm not gonna have time to get to the broth today. It's a shame, but... it is what it is. I'll have to rest up and try it tomorrow.

Maybe I'll sit in front of the fireplace for a bit to chase the chill away from my bones before I bury myself under some blankets and fall asleep.

...I wish you could have shared this day with me. I wish you could have enjoyed the scenery in the plane with us and eaten epic noms with us. I wish you could have met Fl. I wish you could sit next to the fireplace with me and take joy from the feeling of the autumn chill leaving your body. I wish you had your own pile of soft blankets to crawl under, upon a safe and warm bed.

...Sephiroth. Please. Make good choices out there so you can build a life like this one. Okay? Work hard on it, all right? Because you can have any of this. I promise you that you can. You just gotta make good, wholesome choices that will lead you there. I'll be rooting for you, okay?

And following the traditions of this year, I, as always, do not have time to do anything, so the art scribbled on my knee sees off this HORRIBLY SHITTY year. because there has not been a worse year in my not so long life. Wishes? WELL, I wish you to survive this bacchanalia and study well (no need to follow the example of this cat squirrel who closed this quarter with two twos ☝☝). and so everything is steadily going to hell, but we are not discouraged! I will repeat what almost everyone I watch said this year, let's hope that 2025 will be a good year and the black streak will finally end, on this I wish you good luck, I kiss you on the cheek and I wish you not to kill yourself while you celebrate! and remember, I LOVE you all SO MUCH! Had this dream about lich forms Lup and Barry but it was distinctly in the form of a ballet duet set to a dream version of Scylla. IE some verses were word for word but others were whatever the dream felt like it. Their lich powers shifted wildly depending on mental state. There was this orchestral solo section with Lup where her fire became more celestial themed, and she was resplendent with constellations gleaming across her skin. In elegant twirls and leaps she crossed the stage, the arena of the crowd encircling and enthralled. Her smile stretching ever wider from the fame and adoration, basking in stardom. (There was definitely some Taako bleeding into this part). Spinning faster faster in this swirl of elation and starlight.

And then she suddenly stills.

And then the words kicked in.

Drown in your sorrow and fear

It's this moment of pure collapse as the stars in her eyes, the countless universes she's experienced, all quenched by the Hunger. Where once the audience was lit up now it was inky black surrounding Lup. That desperation that lead the 7 Birds to forge the relics, and the intolerable guilt of what they cause.

Live out your life as a wraith

And then we see Lup. Horrific and blistering, this overwhelming destructive force scorching all. Her body is barely one at all, as she's transformed into apoplectic destruction. She is the phoenix gauntlet. She's utterly lost control of her lichform, dissolving into fire and fury incarnate. Because have they not earned a little wrath?

Enter, Barry. He swirls with dark necrotic clouds, this ominous shadow piercing into the heart of the inferno. The pair dance around each other, these titanous forces of darkness and light, so completely anathema this raging radiance and gentle gloom. And he is reaching for her.

We must do what it takes to survive.

In Epic, this is the moment when two have chosen to be monstrous. And in Taz it was too, the Lovers becoming liches. But it's so, so much more. Because it is bonds that have saved them through that wretched stolen century, and love is what it takes to survive. And he is reaching for her, begging her to remember the love that has kept her from falling apart for so long. Yes it is asking her to bear the pain and guilt of what they have done to try and save the world time and time again. But he is also asking her to do what it takes for any of the planar realms to survive the Hunger.

We are the same you and I.

And Lup reaches back, pure light entwining where Barry gently cups what is becoming her face, willing her to resemble a person again. Fire melts into her elven form, grounded once more into a controlled form by the love for each other that keeps them same. She sinks into his arms, and the pair collapse to their knees, clutching each other so tightly they're forced to be made of flesh and blood. They both begin to weep, both in crushing pain and relief. The spotlight above shrinks until they are alone in a small pool of light.

The world becomes pitch black to thunderous applause.

in many ways, Odysseus and Ripley from Alien have a lot in common. Both are the most rational and strategic members of their crews, face horrors beyond their comprehension, are betrayed by their crews to some extent (tho in Ripley's case it was just one asshole android), are the sole survivors of their crews, and take an unfathomably long time to get home.

At least when Ody gets home tho, his kid is still alive 😭

Also, and this might just be personal taste, but I envision both with extremely luscious and voluminous hair.

Dear Sephiroth: (a letter to a fictional character, because why not) #158

I went to a wedding today! Two of my favorite people became husbands to each other! We'll call them AH and JC! I've known AH for a number of years now, and he's one of the brightest, kindest, and most amazing human beings I've ever met! And JC is also very kind, gentle, and extremely non-judgmental. The two fit together like peas in a pod, with their other partner who we'll call C, and C is also a wonderful human being, though I don't yet know him as well as I'd like.

…To be sure, it has been too long since last time I invited them all over to my house. I should probably rectify that very soon…

Of course, going to a wedding naturally means that I will have to be in a very loud space with lots and lots of people I don't know. And that's always kind of scary. I get easily overwhelmed by loud noises, such as loud music being played. And everyone is talking loudly in order to try to be heard over the music, and because there's so much noise, it's extremely difficult for me to parse out meaning from speech when people try to talk to me (ah, the perils of Audio Processing Disorder…), and I'm a very non-standard human anyway, so even without all the noise it's difficult for me to socialize to begin with (I mean, seriously, who the fuck wants to listen to me prattle on and on about human psychology and the broader cultural implications of childhood trauma??? no one, that's who), and so… ya know… it's usually better if I keep my mouth shut in any social situation in which I find myself, because if I don't, I'll probably end up embarrassing myself, making someone uncomfortable, or both.

I was there with M and J; it was probably safer for Br to stay home because the food meant that there was gluten everyfuckingwhere, and the last thing she needs is to get sick, the poor thing. But all the same, M and J don't have audio processing troubles the way I do, and they have more normal interests (like airplanes, and computer programming, and movies and games and TV), so they were able to carry out conversation where as I… mostly just sat around and daydreamed because I wasn't really able to understand a word that anyone was saying.

Naturally, I wouldn't daydream about you being in this particular situation with me; I'm sure you enjoy crowds full of unfamiliar people about as much as you might enjoy accidentally stumbling into a nest full of angry wasps (please don't ever do that, okay?). But I did imagine how nice it might be to sit someplace quiet with you and eat all the awesome epic snacks they had! I'll show you what they were!!

But first though!!!! I have to show you!!! There was FRESH LEMONADE!!!!! A whole big giant huge jug of it!!!!! Look!!!

...You can bet your bottom that I drank WAAAAY more of this than I probably should have, ahahahaha~! But oh my goodness, I got to have FRESH LEMONADE two days in a row!!! WOWWWW~!!!!! 🤩🤩🤩

Powdered lemonade and lemonade from concentrate is a lot more common in my world (and they both taste TERRIBLE to my sensory hardware, as compared to the real thing), so fresh lemonade is kind of a rare treat, normally only found at places like county fairs and other outdoor events. Oh, speaking of which, I should probably get my toosh over to a county fair sometime soon, that way I can take pictures for you, because I can't imagine that you've ever been allowed to actually enjoy one... hm, hm, hmmmm..... 🤔

Anyway, so the food!! There was macaroni and cheese, and various stuff to put on it!!

You can see in here that there's cheese, salsa, jalapeno peppers, bacon, and crispy fried onions! And yes, I did absolutely put more cheese on my macaroni and cheese, because I AM THE CHEESE GOBLIN. It is written. It is known. And anyone who knows me well understands that the allure of a good cheddar is too much for me to resist, bahahaha~! 🤪🤣😁

They also had a section for very tiny snacks!! Behold!

Tiny egg rolls!!!

Tiny spanakopita!

...And tiny beef empanadas!

...And I have no idea why they were tiny, but they were, and they were delicious and delightful and I wished I could share any of them with you, but I especially loved the spanakopita!

And I don't know if you have spanakopita because you don't seem to have anyplace like Greece in your world, but spanakopita is what happens when you cook spinach and feta cheese together in between layers of crispy, paper-thin dough that has been brushed with butter between every layer! It's an ABSOLUTE! FUCKING! NIGHTMARE! to make as a dyspraxic person, oh my goodness (seriously, I tried it once, -5,042 out of 10 stars, absolutely would NOT recommend, but maybe with your coordination, you'd fare better than me... 😵😵😵), but the results are astoundingly delicious!!

Anyway, here was my assembly of snacks! Behold!

Oh!! And!!! There was unsweetened iced tea here, too! I didn't think to take a picture of the jug, but I did get a glass of it and bring it back to my table; there was cream and sugar there, which was likely intended for coffee, but I used it in the tea instead and took pictures of the resulting swirls:

...It's important to find the magic in ordinary things, and I think fluid dynamics are pretty magical, even though we see it in action all the time in various direct and indirect ways.

...Anyway, so there was A LOT MORE FOOD after this, goodness me...

...But I'm not overly fond of sweets, though. So I'm glad that the slice of cake was small, and that we didn't have to take cookies if we didn't want to.

...I wish you were here. Not for the stressful too-many-people-at-once bits, but for all the sparks of delight in between. There are so many beautiful things in this world that I wish I could share with you, just so that you can see that there's more to life than pain and loneliness.

You're the reason that all these letters and pictures and handicrafts exist in the first place. All of the love and beauty that pours out from my mind and from my hands exists only because of you. You. YOU did this. You gave me a reason to keep going. You gave me the courage and strength to continue even when it seemed impossible. You gave me the shape that I clumsily tried to whittle myself into over the years. You.

...So please stay safe out there, doing whatever it is that you do over at the Edge of Creation, okay? Please treat yourself nice so that you can make good, kind, gentle, and loving choices. Please don't disappear. Because I love you and because I want you around and because you deserve to live and to be happy and healthy and safe.

Meet Aspa: Ody's and Poseidon's child

They're a small, nonbinary devil XD I know what you're probably thinking, but no; Ody wasn't the one who got pregnant this time. It was actually Poseidon. And nope, he didn't get knocked up the traditional way. Aspa was the product of blood mixing (during six hundred strike, some of Ody's blood seeped into Poseidon's open wounds, mixed with his ichor and ended up getting him pregnant). They're super attached to Odysseus and a literal angel around him. Poseidon, however, gets the feral side. He's honestly just their stress ball that they bite and chew on. Their design was inspired by beta fish and catfish :333 If you have any specific questions about the twins, feel free to ask either me ( @shinedoitsulikeabright ) or @axt-bs since we worked on it together :3 If you'd like to know more about Aspa, you can either ask here or you could ask me (at least while Sky's on hiatus).
