Your Words, Your Brand: The Risks of Emotionally Charged Messages for Entrepreneurs
Communication is key to building strong relationships, both personally and professionally. But what happens when it’s used as a weapon instead? I recently witnessed an angry email that led to an epic fallout.
As a former corporate hamster, one thing I’ve noticed more and more in the freelancer world is the rise in unprofessional correspondence. In corporate America (or most jobs where you’re an employee and handle client or consumer communication), accountability is everything. What you send, say, or do can easily be your undoing. Pulling from the basic concept of an agency/principal relationship,…

Do you (or any members of Bitch Nation) have any tips for using Upwork as a freelancer?
Thank you!
Anon sent another ask that says:
"Update from Anon: I just found out that Upwork has this thing called connects which makes it so you have to basically pay to get work...apparently they give you some for free, but it's still a bad deal.
Still planning to try out Upwork until I run out of connects, but I think I'm going to look into other job boards like Freelancer (I refuse to touch Fivver)."
Aaaaaand herein lies the problem with freelancing sites like UpWork and Fiverr. They're a bad deal because they prey on folks who are desperate for work.
It is much harder--but much more financially rewarding--to build a network of clients on your own. We wrote some advice for how to do that in our two-parter on freelancing:
Becoming a Millennial Entrepreneur (In the Midst of a Pandemic) With Katelyn Magnuson
11 Awful Mistakes I Made as a Self-employed Freelancer, and How You Can Avoid Them

💡 Users Don’t Care About Your Idea
Most startups begin with this mindset:
"I have an idea for an app/software/business. It helps users do ***. This is going to be the next big thing!"
This is the wrong approach because:
It assumes you already know what users want (you don’t—no one does).
It ignores the fact that users aren’t waiting for your app. They’re likely already using alternatives.
It’s a mindset often driven by trends rather than solving a real, painful problem.
Instead, approach it like this:
"This group of people has a serious problem affecting their life or work. How can I help them?"
This shift in thinking:
Starts with humility—you don’t assume, you learn.
Focuses on real human needs.
Narrows down your audience to those who truly need a solution.
Builds empathy and deeper connections.
Acknowledges that not every problem needs an app.
The real benefit? You’ll engage with potential customers, build trust and community, listen effectively, and sell with little to no marketing effort.
Build for people, not just for the idea. That’s how great products are made.

It sucks 💔 when you put so much effort into something, hoping to see results, but they never come. But, remember, oftentimes, it just boils down into the number of times you do the same thing over and over again to get that result you wanted. It's just like throwing darts 🎯 over and over again until you finally hit that bullseye. But, in reality, that dart doesn't take one second to throw. Each try or attempt you take or "dart" you throw can take hours or even days to do. What if you needed to do the same thing 30 times to get the result you wanted, and each thing took 5 or 10 hours to do? What if it was 100 times or a 1000 times? You may never know until you get that result. But, what you do know is that you can keep trying and keep throwing those darts. :)
Trust yourself and stay relentless.
Love 💞,
Sara Jilani
P.S. Here's a picture of me (metaphorically) throwing a dart 🎯. :)

hi! i saw your artist post, and i wanted to ask you something. i have a channel where i post covers of songs, and i stopped because of studies. I'll be starting it again in a few months, and i wanted to do a rebrand. do you think i should delete my old videos (there were only 5-6) and start fresh? i was thinking of keeping 2 of the best ones and deleting the rest, but i wanted some other input.
ty! ily xx
Hi lovely!
I would suggest keeping them, they're part of your brand legacy so to speak. If you consider them really low quality, then yes you can hide/archive them for the time and keep the best ones.
Remember to keep your eyes on the prize and keep moving forward. Don't overthink the process of content creation/art creation. One mistake that a lot of artists/creators do is being perfectionists to the point that they overthink everything and never end up posting consistently or gaining reach. I did this mistake too in the beginning.
At some point you have to stop worrying so much and just create what you love and focus on rebranding/reorganizing your content later.
PS: if you need help with (re)branding, I'm actually considering offering services for graphic design/webdesign/branding, for anyone interested feel free to drop me a message. Everything in my website/brand is done by me.
Hope this helps and good luck! 🎶

How to get into an entrepreneur mindset?
💎 Know your why and remind yourself of it daily You can create a moodboard, manifestation board, listen to certain mantras or midnfull meditation surrounding sucess.
💎 Choose a field that you like, as well as one you are good at and can make you money! Don't let yourself be discouraged about the market being saturated, there is a market for everything and more then enough to go around. Just focus on yourse, and make everything have a different touch/flare that sets you apart.
💎 Interact with people who are in the places you want to be in. Learn about how they got there, what was their motivation, what tools did they use - be the student, don't shy away from asking question, observing and have eveyrthing prepared for when it is your turn to do your THING!
💎 Don’t be afraid of failure. To fail is simply learning how to improve for your next step! This is also why steady wins the raise, so no need to go too fast or overplan that you never get started.
💎 Be prepared to make this your focus for the next few months if not more. Dicipline, dedication, time, money and energy will be required, so be ready to pour that in!
Remeber, what you desire is already yourse. Get comfortable in the incertainty. Goodluck <3

1. Set Your Sights: Before diving into the investment pool, take a moment to define your financial goals and the timeline for your investments. Whether it's saving for retirement, buying a home, or funding your dream vacation, clarity is key! ⏳💡
2. Spread Your Wings: Don't put all your eggs in one basket! Diversification is your best friend when it comes to investing. Spread your investments across different asset classes like stocks, bonds, real estate, and even cryptocurrencies to reduce risk and optimize returns. 🌟📊
3. Craft Your Plan: Every successful investor needs a game plan. Map out your investment strategy, including your risk tolerance, target returns, and preferred investment vehicles. Having a roadmap will keep you focused and disciplined amidst market fluctuations. 📝🚀
4. Keep Emotions in Check: The stock market can be a rollercoaster of emotions, but don't let fear or greed drive your investment decisions. Stick to your plan, stay rational, and avoid making impulsive moves based on short-term market swings. 🎢😌
