This was the camping trip that inspired this challenge. After 6 months in the pandemic, by chance I found myself out among the trees.

Despite mosquitos the size of helicopters and a little bit of rain, I found myself feeling happier and more at peace than I had in months. And I decided I needed to make a conscious effort to get outside, no matter the weather or my mood.

I decided then to embark on a year in my hammock* with camping trips once a month.

*ok, not a literal year, as in 365 days of camping — I do have a day job. But the idea was to get out in all seasons and all kinds of weather.

For me, self care HAS to be a priority every day. Quieting the mind and relaxing my shoulders is something I have to actually put effort into. Unclenching my jaw and taking long deep breaths have to be frequently reminded to myself. After being told “calm down” my whole life, I know that it doesn’t come easy to me, BUT it is extremely important to find peace in stillness! I try to take a little time most days to just breathe fully and slowly and stare up at the trees. I LOVE the trees. Yes you can call me a #treehugger. The energy that I feel when I’m sitting underneath is quite powerful and healing. I find serenity in my #enohammock - hanging out with my friends, the trees!
