Avatar Lore Dumps — Visual Encyclopedia
So, I hurt my ankle, but a friend and fellow avatar lover went to the bookshop today and very kindly took pictures of everything. It's wonky but readable, and she was being so kind I wasn't about to ask for reshoots. Any of you want the lore from the encyclopedia for your fics, have at it! It'll do until a real rip comes out.
Metkayina, Omatikaya, Miscel.

I was looking through old Wind Waker interviews and tossing them into Google translate (unfortunately it's the best I have </3) I kind of found this bit interesting
I guess I find it interesting because I feel like I see people describe Wind Waker as the opposite. Where it's a zelda world, but the main character isn't actually Link but happens to be a random guy. Here, Aonuma describes it as a non zelda world, but the main character happens to be Link.
Idk the translation could be wonky since well it is google translate so here's that original Japanese bit
#the legend of zelda#loz#wind waker#I'm a wind waker link is an actual link and has the spirit of the hero truther so#to those who havent read my long ass post#speaking of which I still need to make a follow up because I found more stuff#sorry I'm annoying about it wind waker is a special interest and i always deep dive into it#him not having it is just a theory anyways as if he wasn't outright confirmed hes a reincarnation and chosen hero in game#this is also blatantly stated in the encyclopedia with him being used as an example twice but whatever#okay i'll stop now

Book 430
The Encyclopedia of Ghosts and Spirts, third edition
Rosemary Ellen Guiley
Checkmark Books 2007
This is a surprisingly useful book to me. It’s just about the only book I have that has post-its in it to mark certain entries. It has particularly good summations of specific hauntings and ghosts. For example: the late 19th century Amherst Haunting, or the Chaffin Will Case from the early 20th century, or the well-documented 1977 Enfield Poltergeist. With over 600 entries, on everything from haunted places to famous mediums, this is an excellent reference.

Yandere! Sea Monster x Reader
In the spirit of Mermay, I come to you with a slightly different approach: an octopus hybrid, dwelling in the dark depths of ancient waters. :) Hopefully close enough to the sea monster you imagined, @wally0117
Content: gender neutral reader, male yandere, monster romance, reader likes sharks (a lot); inspired by The Shape of Water and My Octopus Teacher; photo from Whalebone Magazine
He’s always been aware of humans, naturally. Observed them from the beginnings of time, from the very first rudimentary attempt of a boat that crossed his waters. Though he can only guess how these creatures exist, how they breathe, how they move. What arrives in his depths is always a corpse of some sort. Bloated, decaying carcasses, rarely intact, whether chipped by fish or by time. Everything else is left to his imagination.
Until today. The fish are restless, the currents are stronger. Something must be happening above, stringing him along curiously. His many legs sway in tandem, opening and closing, as he investigates the source of interest. His pale white eyes narrow to a mere squint, unused to the light of the surface levels. At last, he finds it: a human.
Yet this one is unusual. Intact - save for the bleeding wound - and unlike the washed-out, cadaveric blue tint he’s normally accustomed to. He notices a twitch of the limb and it dawns on him: this one is still alive.
You wake up with a violent cough, thrusting out the leftover liquid that had invaded your lungs earlier. You clearly remember drowning, so how did you end up on shore again? The answer reveals itself rather quickly: a monstrous creature, albeit humanoid for the most part. The upper half resembles a man, but the torso ends in thick, enormous tentacles, now flopped onto the sand, surrounding your body. You search for the creature’s face, framed by translucent tendrils that seem to replace what you’d expect as hair.
“Thank you”. He scans your features and remains silent. Does he even understand human speech? After a moment of consideration, he looks ahead, surveying the water, then returns to you, giving you a nudge. He most likely wants to know how you ended up in that situation to begin with. “That’s, well…”
Conveniently enough, the monster has brought you back to your little camp, so you reach for your backpack and pull out a book. Of course, no words can ever replace the image itself. With renewed enthusiasm, you open your encyclopedia and turn it towards the man, showing him a photo of a sand tiger shark, tapping on it excitedly. “I was looking for sharks!”
Ever since the bizarre, life-saving encounter, you’ve been returning to the same spot most days. And without exception, the monster will be waiting for you in one of the neighboring caves. Judging by the pellucid, pale skin and his reluctance to be in the light, you guessed early on that he might be a creature of the depths.
One that has been around for a long time, it seems. Once he understood your interest in sharks and other aquatic animals, he developed a liking to play guide for you, silently touring you through forests of kelp, hidden caves, labyrinths of reefs and hills. He knows where the animals linger, and they don't scurry away when you approach. You've never dreamed of being so close to them, staring into their eyes and tracing their fins as they swim past you, unbothered and relaxed. The monster will gaze at you from a distance, amused by your passion.
On ground, you’ve begun your own little experiment: can the octopus creature learn sign language? You didn’t need long to discover how intelligent he is, mimicking your gestures with flawless ease, instantly memorizing the meanings, the connections, the implications. He seems to be terribly delighted by this newfound tool of communication, often asking you questions with earnest curiosity.
Ah, yes, the questions. It makes sense that he’d want to know more about humans, though his interrogations are rather…particular. Specific. It’s less about humans as a whole, and more about you. How long have you been swimming here? How deep can you actually swim, with or without aid? Might you have a family waiting for you back home? A mate, perchance? No? Interesting.
"My vacation will end soon", you sign with pursed lips. He tilts his head. "Leaving?" his webbed hands gesture, somewhat uneasy. You nod. You can discern a glint of melancholy in his eyes. Eventually, he resumes: "Would you like to see my home?" Your eyebrows raise in surprise. His home? Down there? Was such a thing even achievable for a human like you?
The plump suckers attach themselves to your skin, one resting over your mouth. "Do you trust me?" You cast one final glance over the underwater abyss, a black hole trapping all light and matter. You shake your head in approval. Without hesitation, he plunges over the cliff, pulling you after him and into the yawning void of darkness. His form glows eerily, and his movement is swift and elegant. You can tell this is his land, his territory. You would've been dead a long time ago.
He releases you on the wet stone, inside the air pocket of a cave. You need a few moments to overcome the wave of claustrophobia pressing against your lungs. As you catch your breath, you recall your long path from the surface. It would be impossible to make it back out again without your friend. A cold shiver runs across your spine. "Have a break, and I'll show you everything else afterwards", he gestures with a smile. "How long will it take? I don't want to walk back at night", you explain.
Silence. You stare into his empty orbs, awaiting a reaction. There's not a sound, not a gust of wind, not a shred of light. "You're not going back", he finally answers.
You see, he's done a fair amount of research himself. He doesn't need an encyclopedia to figure you out: how you breathe, how you move, how you exist. In fact, he is rather confident in his ways of helping you adapt to a life spent together. He would've never brought you down here if he wasn't certain of your survival. His grin widens in anticipation, a strange warmth enveloping his innards at the mere thought of it: a future with you in it, right here. However, one question remains, a cheeky, perverted detail that has been on his mind from the moment he met you, yet he could never investigate it properly.
How do humans mate?

God Dionysus
°🏺⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
Manifestations: Dionysus typically manifests in the form of a man, lion, bull, or goat. He is the horned Green Man, crowned with snakes. He is sometimes described as androgynous or effeminate with long, beautiful, dark, wavy or curly hair. Dionysus is wine: by drinking wine, one shares the sacrament of Dionysus’ body.
Iconography: He is sometimes venerated in the form of a huge phallus.
Attributes: His primary attribute was the thyrsus: a wand (originally a fennel stalk) topped with a pinecone; also cymbals, frame drums, and other percussion instruments.
Sacred animals: Leopards and panthers, snakes, mules, donkeys, goats, and lions
Mount: Dionysus rides a chariot drawn by griffins.
Plants: Grapevines, ivy, walnut trees, fig trees
Colors: Purple, wine
Spirit allies: Dionysus only wants to be alone when he’s hungover. He is a gregarious, friendly spirit usually surrounded by aretinue including devotees, sacred animals, and other deities. His allies include:
• Apollo
• Demeter and Persephone
• Hekate
• Kybele
• Pan
• Satyrs
• Semele
• Silenus
Sacred site: Dionysus eventually became Apollo’s altar-equal at Delphi, taking over the shrine in winter. He was considered Apollo’s opposite, representing hot ecstatic energy rather than Apollo’s cold rationalism. The coasts of southern Italy are allegedly among Dionysus’ favorite places.
Sacred days: Devotion to Dionysus once dominated Greek winters. In Athens, he was honored by four festivals:
• Dionysia (end of November/beginning of December)
• Lenea (approximately one month later)
• Anthesteria (end of January)
• Great Dionysia (end of February)

I truly cannot think of anything more pointless for a fantasy writer to worry about than "Who domesticated wheat in your world?"
I've seen at least two different threads bring this up. It's so pedantic that it's ridiculous. I'll go so far as to say that answering this question will make your story worse. Unless your plot directly hinges upon the agricultural history of your imaginary realm, there is no reason for anyone in the story to know, mention, bring up, or in even the slightest way care about the answer to that question, and absolutely zippo reason for anyone reading it to take time out of their presumably adult life to take even a microsecond to consider it.
Who domesticated wheat in our world? Does it matter? Does not knowing the answer stop you from having a morning slice of toast?
Stop telling people that they need to create thousands of years of worldbuilding before they can include even the simplest details. You're writing a story, not an encyclopedia. This Cinema Sins approach to worldbuilding is joyless and mean-spirited and it actively makes for worse storytelling.

i think kawakami has some harry dubois shit going on in her head like becky is one of her personalities in there but you just know theres like other facets like "half-remembered lesbian porn" and "urge to kill self" and "kanji factoid"
ELECTROCHEMISTRY — What was that *stuff* they pumped you full of at the hospital? It feels awesome. You need more of that! Now! LOGIC [Easy: Success] — A saline solution, to treat dehydration. ENCYCLOPEDIA [Trivial: Success] — Water and salt. ENDURANCE — I agree with her. Get more of that. THE NEFARIOUS BECKY — If you give Isako the puppy-wuppy eyes, she'll bring you some water for suresies! ♥ DRAMA — Yes! *Oh*, yes! She will eat it up! COMPOSURE — No. Don't do that. YOU — I don't think I have to. I'm pathetic enough on my own. THE NEFARIOUS BECKY — That's the spirit! ♥ YOU — Enough. PAIN THRESHOLD — A cough rattles out of you, leaving burrs in your throat. The strain makes your head pound. How much more of this? YOU — I don't want to think about it. Give me something else. KANKEN LEVEL 1 [Challenging: Success] — It's rare, but sometimes you see *sad* written with the character for *love*. CONCEPTUALIZATION — That's so meaningful and cool… SUGGESTION — Toriumi likes poetry. You should tell her about that. She'll think you're deep. PORNOGRAPHIC MEMORY [Trivial: Success] — She *knows* how deep you are. VOLITION [Easy: Failure] — This time I'm really gonna do it.

On the Same Page | Robin x Reader
Part of the Thousand Sunny Slice-of-Life Series
Find the other parts with the rest of the Straw Hats here
Summary: You and Robin chat about your current read in the Sunny’s library on a cozy, snowy day Word count: 1.5k Tags: one-shot, pure fluff, domestic bliss onboard the sunny, platonic straw hat pirates x reader, main pairing could be interpreted as platonic or romantic, no use of y/n, GN but written with F!Reader in mind
The shelves of the Thousand Sunny’s library were filled with everything from cartography books and maps to medical journals, cookbooks, and even sheet music.
You could also find Jinbe’s collection of classical epics, Zoro’s single volume of Famed Swords Encyclopedia that he only ever opened once, and various blueprints of wacky inventions belonging to Franky and Usopp. Your captain was the only one to not have anything stored in the library, to no one’s surprise.
Also to no one’s surprise, most of the books in the room belonged to Robin. The archeologist had volumes upon volumes of history books, texts in ancient languages no one speaks anymore, and yellowing scrolls from long-gone civilizations. But that was not all that the 30-year-old read.
Among the shelves of the Thousand Sunny’s library, you could also find works of fiction. Robin’s favorites were horrors, mystery, and thrillers, but there was also a fair share of romance novels, children’s fairy tales, and other miscellaneous publications – anything that she could get her hands on every time the Sunny docked at a new port.
You now stood at the library, gazing at your own growing collection. You recalled when this part of the shelf was completely empty – the very abrupt departure from your home island while being pursued by dozens of marines didn’t exactly leave much room for packing before you boarded the Sunny as the newest member of the Straw Hat Pirates.
You had initially mourned the piles of books you left behind, which you had carefully curated over many years, but you were filled with a renewed spirit when Robin showed you the Sunny’s modest, but cozy library. In the short time that she had known you back then, the perceptive woman had noticed your love for reading and went out of her way to rearrange some of her own books to create an empty space in the library's shelves for you. She had also given you a gift – a copy of a classic forbidden romance about a marine who fell in love with a pirate – which she had acquired during her explorations on your home island before things went awry. When she handed the book to you, she had gently smiled and said, “To mark the start of a new chapter in your life.”
You smiled fondly at the memory, lightly brushing your fingertips over the spine of that very book, before taking out the hefty volume next to it. This one was the latest installment in Robin’s favorite murder mystery saga. Two bookmarks were currently sandwiched between the pages, a few chapters apart. You picked a spot on the bench by one of the library’s huge windows and curled up with the blanket that you brought with you. Your fingers found the first bookmark and flipped the book open to the page where you left off.
It was lightly snowing outside, but the central heating system that Franky developed for the Sunny kept you warm and cozy as you got lost within the pages.
You had gotten through a couple of chapters when the creak of the wooden ladder that connected the library to the bathroom above it caught your attention. Robin’s slender legs carefully stepped down on each rung, before finally landing on the floor. Her long dark hair was still slightly damp from her bath, and she absentmindedly combed her fingers through it as she greeted you.
“How are you getting on with the book?” She asked.
“Oh, I’m actually just about to catch up to you!” You replied, showing her that you were just a few pages ahead of her purple bookmark.
“Perfect.” She smiled, “Let me grab us some hot drinks from the kitchen while you finish the rest of those pages.”
You and Robin had gotten into the habit of reading the same book together. The fact that only one copy of each book was available onboard made it tricky at first, but you made it work. You read in the afternoons, while Robin preferred reading at night before bed. Once every few days, you discussed what you had read over cups of tea, while sharing some snacks, or simply while enjoying the breeze on the Sunny’s deck. It was like a secret little book club with only the two of you as its members, and it had become something you looked forward to the most during long sailings between islands.
When you reached the page Robin last read, you put your own bookmark on top of hers and closed the book, waiting for her to come back. You looked out the window at the falling snow, which was getting heavier by the minute. The Grand Line weather surely is unpredictable, you thought to yourself – it had been scorching hot only a couple of days ago.
The door to the library cracked open, letting in a rush of cold air from the deck. You shivered at the sudden drop in temperature and huddled further into your blanket. Robin stepped in with a thick blanket of her own draped around her body, her arms in an X formation in front of her chest. A bunch of arms had formed some sort of umbrella above her head, shielding her from the snow during the short outdoor walk from the kitchen to the library. Meanwhile, a tray carrying two covered mugs had also sprouted legs and was walking alongside her.
You chuckled at the sight, no longer shocked at Robin’s uncanny devil fruit abilities, but still mesmerized nonetheless. The legs hurried to carry the tray to your side, and as soon as you took hold of it, all of Robin’s extra limbs vanished in a flurry of pink petals. You carefully set the tray on the bench as Robin made her way to you.
“The snow doesn’t look like it will stop anytime soon.” Robin remarked as she sat beside you, “Nami said it might get a bit stronger, but most likely will not develop into a blizzard. We should be in for a fairly quiet night.”
“Oh, thank goodness. I never sleep well during storms.” You said while gently sweeping your hand against Robin’s blanket-covered shoulders to get rid of the specks of snow that had snuck through despite the cover of her “umbrella”.
Robin took one of the mugs, while you reached for the other. A cloud of steam escaped as you took off the mug’s lid to find a rich, chocolate drink inside. You smiled at the heart-shaped marshmallows swimming in the hot cocoa, which were surely courtesy of the Straw Hats’ flirty cook. You and Robin let out similar sighs of contentment as the warm liquid ran down your throats, paired perfectly with the sweet marshmallows melting on your tongues.
A few sips later, you tapped the cover of the whodunit novel that the two of you were halfway through, and commented, “I don’t believe the maid killed the baron.”
Robin let out a chuckle, “Me too, I think she's being framed. She doesn't seem like someone capable of cold-blooded murder.”
She took another sip of her drink before continuing, “Now, the doctor, on the other hand – she could easily inject some poison into the baron’s veins when administering his daily shots.”
Your eyes widened at her keen observation, “I think you’re onto something here. I can’t believe I missed that!”
Ideas were thrown back and forth as the two of you dissected the events in the story so far. You and Robin went on and on, eagerly exchanging opinions, not only about the plot but also about the major themes of the book, the prose, the characters, and whatever else came to mind.
Sure, you have always loved reading, but it turned out that books became infinitely more exciting when you had someone to share them with.
A sudden gust of wind and snow rattled the door and the windows of the library, making you jump and interrupting your deep conversation with Robin.
“Ah, Nami did say the weather would get worse.” Robin mused, “Shall we move to the kitchen before the snow gets even heavier? It’s almost dinnertime anyhow.”
You voiced your agreement and took the tray, arranging the two empty mugs on top of it. Robin grabbed your blanket and wrapped it gently around you, before covering her own body with hers. You both paused in front of the door, mentally preparing for the coldness that would soon invade the room.
“Ready?” Robin asked you with a soft smile.
You nodded and reached for the doorknob. As you stepped outside, Robin took a stance with her arms crossed in front of her, limbs upon limbs once again forming an umbrella, this time big enough to cover the both of you. You leaned into her, chasing her body heat as you braved the freezing weather.
The waves of laughter that came out of you and Robin could barely be heard above the wind, as you rushed side by side toward the warmth and safety of the kitchen.
a/n: one thing about me, i love reading up on oda's sbs as they give lots of hilarious and random insights into the one piece world and its characters. not sure if you noticed, but i also love including little bits of information from sbs in my fics! the tidbit for this one (from sbs vol. 46) is that luffy is the only straw hat without any books in the sunny's library! (shocking, i know)
