A flag for when your empathy is fucked for any reason. This can include hyperempathy, hypoempathy, empathyflux, or any other kind of empathy abnormality.

I made this to describe my weird relationship with empathy and how I personally only experience it for those I'm close to, but it can be used for anyone who feels like they can describe their empathy as "fucked."

Lots of points of inspiration for this one! The flag template is by @/fantasy-store's empathy flags the center colors are from @/neopronouns' hyperempathy, hypoempathy(link) and empathyflux(link) flags, and the colors on either side are from @/fairystar-fag's high and low empatix(link) flags because they're gorgeous

Low / fluctuating empathy is honestly not caring about other people, but through a lot of work, learning how to pretend like you do for the sake of getting along with others.

I hated how other people use to treat me, and eventually I realized it was because of how I treated other people. So I made the decision to actively learn how to relate to other people and put my selfishness aside in an attempt to actually connect with people.

The problem I've run into, though, is that everyone now thinks I'm this super empathetic and compassionate person without realizing I'm only that way because I want people to pay attention to me.

1 am I a headmate with fluctuating empathy or did we switch

10 Oh now I'm low empathy and doubting myself again because yeah I CAN feel empathy... or is that just sympathy? No I think it's empathy. But also it's mild so I can't tell because I'm so used to BIG EMOTIONS (esp from BPD) that I have alexithymia around small emotions and similar. I mean I know empathy isn't an emotion exactly but brain still can't process it in same way. So now tennis game of "is empathy/is not" for hours

fluctuating empathy culture is having low/no empathy for a while then getting hit with a bunch of emotion from other people and being so not used to it that you cant really do much because its so preoccupying and distracting from everything you need to get done.

kinda like youre suddenly walking on a bed of nails, not overtly painful but noticeable enough that you cant help but focus on not accidentally walking weird and getting poked (acting weird and people noticing and drawing attention to it)
