Just curious because I love your thoughts on this silly magical world... Do you think the sorting hat could pausibly put Hermione on Slytherin? Do you think she would survive in there? I have no idea how canon would play out in this case but its fun to think about

Young Hermione is caught up in the idea of following The Rules and doing things The Right Way. She wants to do good in the world, but that's not necessarily the same as wanting success or the fulfillment of personal ambition. That's all to say that she could definitely succeed as a Slytherin — I tend to think someone as smart and driven as Hermione is bound to succeed anywhere — but there's a big question of what she'd succeed at. Much of Hermione's drive and purpose comes from Harry and Ron: she's at her best when she's helping them overcome their obstacles, whether it's grades or Triwizard Tasks or horcruxes. She doesn't seem to have many large independent objectives (extremely fair, considering one of Harry's major problems is "save the Wizarding World from a fascist demigod") and when she does, like with S.P.E.W., it's depicted as being slightly wrong-headed and brash, with insufficient attention to how the subjects of her crusades for justice actually feel.

REGARDLESS of whether the enslavement of house-elves was a good vehicle to characterize Hermione in that way, the S.P.E.W. campaign does give us this information about her: she has a strong sense of what's right and wrong, but she's not great with people, and she has a habit of not listening to them whenever their ideas conflict with her own sense of reason and justice. Which makes sense! Hermione is smarter than most people she meets. Her heuristics are telling her that she usually knows better, and she usually does. But she can't do most of what she wants to do alone, and she especially can't do it if she doesn't listen to people and learn to ask for advice/counsel, which Harry and Ron don't often force her to do. They're great friends for her in that they check her arrogance and her imperiousness, but they don't necessarily have a ton of emotional depth or insight into Hermione as a person.

Being in Slytherin might change those things about her, or it might not. She might become more attuned to people and the ways to use friends to get what you want both personally and politically — Slytherin is a hotbed of political connections, and Gryffindor culture is much more brash and direct anyway — or she might flounder and struggle for that very reason. It would depend on the people she met and the friends she made, just as her experience in Gryffindor did. Regardless, I think she would be a very different person — a more politically canny person, but probably a colder and less forgiving person — if you took her friends away.

Here's what you're gonna do.

You're gonna go down to your local Aldi's, buy a 24oz bag of frozen mango chunks, a bag of rice, and two cans of black beans.

If you don't already have them; salt, lime or lemon juice and cumin; maybe some meal prep tupperware. Pouch tuna if you like that stuff.

Once home, put that bag of mango chunks in a bowl full of warm water so they defrost. Don't pen it. The bag needs to stay closed. This'll make sense later.

Prepare enough water in a pot to cook two cups of that rice. Make sure the pot's big. Big enough to hold way more rice than you expect there to be. Add a teaspoon of cumin, two tablespoons lime or lemon juice, salt according to preference. Pat of butter.

Boil. Make sure the butler's melted. Stir to combine.

Add your rice. Cook according to rice bag.

If you have a protein, you can cook that now. 20-30 minutes at your disposal. If not, that's why we got the second can of beans for.

I recommend Aldi's tuna steaks - quick to defrost, 5 bucks for 2-3. Lean protein. Real nice. Creme de la crumb's tuna marinade also works real nice if you have the energy.

A pouch of tuna's just as good functionally.

Less mercury that way.

You can mix it in that if you want, too.

Strain your beans. Conserve a little bean water for the rice if you want.

Your rice is done.

Add your beans. Twice as many if you're feeling like it'll be a bad week. Two or three pouch tunas too if you want a little extra.

If you have the lemon pepper kind you can probably nix the citrus juice.

Now we go back to your mango. If all's worked correctly, the warm water should've thawed them somewhat, the heat warming the air in the bag.

Dump 'em in, turn the burner to low heat. Stir until well combined.

Portion out into Tupperware.

You've got a good couple meals right there. Even more as side dishes if you have the energy to cook chicken nuggets or fish or veggies or whatever.

Lunch. Breakfast. Dinner.

Carbs to keep you awake and moving.

Protein to fuel your muscles.

Bit of fiber to push it all through your guts easier.

Citric acid to avoid the scurvy.

Can be eaten hot or cold, and the shit's good, too.

You're gonna have something tasty to eat whether you can operate a microwave or not this week.

That's what you're gonna do.

Purina apparently discontinued and then reformulated the only canned food I've found so far that Griffin's extraordinarily sensitive tummy can tolerate, adding one of his potential worst allergens to nearly the top of the formulation list. I have sent a Karen-like e-mail to Purina, and am now having to have five million tabs open on different pet food websites to put the ingredient lists of everything under a microscope to try and find something remotely close.

Hi! I’m just curious about a random history question—I’m watching through MMNI and noticed that Croydonosaurus is stated to be part of a Sequel Sunday like the Look Out movies, but then Back to the Tutor airs a few days later with no mention of a Croydonosaurus sequel? I was just curious as to whether you (or anyone) remembers what went on with that particular show—was it canceled? Or did it happen but just wasn’t recorded? Thanks!!

Yes I do remember! The sequel was cancelled bc someone in the mmni team tested positive for covid in btwn shows. Literally 30 mins before the show started, Jonathan Sayer told the Zoom panel that the sequel show was cancelled. This message was later sent to everyone who bought a ticket for that show:

The next weekend, they had a whole new cast on. The emergency cast consisted of Dave Hearn, Lauren Shearing, Bryony Corrigan, Ellie Morris, Laura Kirman, and Matt Cavendish. Dave and Lauren were already listed as part of the summer cast but Dave had only done 2 shows up to this point while Lauren hadn’t done any yet that summer. Ellie was pulled from tptgw west end, Laura from tptgw uk tour (if I’m remembering correctly), and Matt from Groan Ups uk tour. Jon remained as Oscar.
