I'm still buzzing from The Shabti's time among Amazon's top 100 Paranormal Fantasy books (and top 50 in the Kindle Store!) over the past couple of days! :D Thanks so much to everyone who bought the book and/or spread the word about it. It means the world to me!

What is prehistory and when did it end
We often here terms like pre history and recorded history but when did prehistory become recorded history? well it depends where in the world we are talking about.
Pre history refers to the time before humanity started documenting events in the past. This is arguably the time before writing was invented and it varies drastically depending on where in the world we are viewing history.
The oldest civilizations to start writing and documenting history are the Egyptians and the Sumerians, both of which start to begin writing about 5000 years ago. The transition into this form of record keeping is also paired with the transition from the end of the stone age to the beginning of the bronze age.
This transition happens at different time in different parts of the world for example, east Asia's first records begin to appear around 700bc where as Europe's start at around 450bc. This is a good 2000 years after the first records in Egypt and Sumer. By the time Europe first started recording their lives the ancient Egyptians already had their own historians researching the ancient ancient Egyptians.

I don't yet nearly know enough about egyptology to actually write this. But if I do, I can't help but think of an alternate history story where the Ancient Egypt outlived Rome, as opposed to the other way around. What would our culture be like if Rome fell into obscurity and Egypt rose to prominence?

The Snake, The Crocodile and The Dog
"Belzoni, the flamboyant Italian strongman who had been one of the first to work in the Valley of the Kings.."
Giovanni Bodtista Belzoni- Italian explorer and amateur archaeologist who excavated all over Egypt and worked closely with Henry Salt. Among his great feats and discoveries are:
The removal and transportation of the upper part of a colossal statue of Ramesses II from Thebes, now in the British Museum.
The discovery of the tomb of Seti I in the Valley of the Kings
The opening of Khafre's pyramid for the first time.

Reviewed: "Women in the Valley of the Kings: The Untold Story of Women Egyptologists in the Gilded Age" by Kathleen Sheppard
It was sixth grade Social Studies. I forget exactly what Mrs. Melquist was teaching us but I remember a slideshow, and I remember that it included pictures of the treasures found in King Tut’s tomb. That was the first I knew of archaeology and Egyptology. And I was hooked. Not enough to become an archaeologist or an Egyptologist, but enough to consume all things Ancient Egypt that I came across…

The reign of the Pharaohs was longer than between the end of the Pharaohs to now
Most of us know well the last pharaoh of Egypt the great Cleopatra who died in 30bce over 2000 years ago but did you know that she is closer to our time now than she is to when the first ruler of Egypt ,or the first pharaoh, united upper and lower regions of Egypt?
The first pharaoh is believed by many scholars to be Narmer otherwise known as Menes. the first to unite upper and lower Egypt giving him the prestigious title of "the lord of two lands". this unification of Egypt and the birth of the first pharaoh occurred around 3100 bce over 3000 years before the end of Cleopatra.
Whats more, Narmer's wife Neithhotep appears to be the earliest recorded woman who name is known to us today. She also may have been a pharaoh herself making her the first known female ruler in history 5000 years ago. this could of happened after the death of her husband also making her the second pharaoh in history.
so there you have it, for 3000 years the pharaohs ruled Egypt 1000 years longer than when the last pharaoh died to now.
