RIPMedicalDebt Update!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We have the results of our Last Ride campaign from last fall, and folks, we're openly weeping about it! Because of all of us, 621 people are starting the new year with a burden lifted.
We did a huge amount of good, and paid off a whopping $1,180,348.38 in medical debt!
Thank you so much to everyone who contributed, boosted, and supported the scripthunt over the years. It's just so satisfying that our original mission we set out on finished off on such a powerful note. When we all work together, we can do amazing things!
Update from @lets-steal-an-archive
Tumblr media
We've DM'ed.
He's completely serious.
@mittensmorgul + I are thinking maybe April or May and we'll keep you posted.

if you have ever wanted to read about achilles and zagreus going to mcdonalds together and it's not an au they are just two people from the underworld going to mcdonalds and it is not explained, please consider ordering @hadescookbook, because i made them let me write about that.
preorders are open from now until may 15! it is for charity!! and as well as getting a lovely book of delicious recipes and beautiful fic and art that has nothing to do with mcdonalds, there's also exciting merch like a coaster and an apron. very cool

crumbs in your bed
transcript
#bakuspecial#comic#horror#cw: child abuse#cw: body horror#ask to tag#hi! hello. this is basically just a goosebump story I think. or a scary stories to tell in the dark entry#that's kinda what I aim for? along with the good ol vibe of fuan no tane#and also the like. Thing in east asian art where they make the main character a generic white person and then#every other thing about the setting is deeply recogniseably common asian shit lmao#that's entertainment for me. this came about extremely haphazardly... its why the first two pages look nothing like#the rest of it fsdjfhdsjhf. I slammed those out at a cafe like two days ago#went into this one no plan outside of a general sense of direction#I dont think Ive ever actually designed a single character in any of the short horror comics I did. like either its me or#I made someone up as I went. genuinely didnt know what the character'd look like until I sketched em#and then I kept referencing previous panels to draw em. dont know if I recommend this method#mmmm on reread not super sure if the sound effect of the bed leaving the room is clear enough... oh well there are other comics#been writing a lot about food and places recently Ive found out. oh yeah dyou know whats funny#I watched a wayner highlight vid of the kingdom heart charity stream today (I do not know anything about kingdom heart) and realized#how much of kingdom heart (at least the first one) is about like. places.#which is like. good job baku great deep read there isn't kingdom heart literally behind a door. arent there doors all over the place.#isnt the biggest symbol from that game taht EVERYONE knows about the KEYblade. for locks on door#fskdjfhdj but yeah its just. very cool to me that that game really does have iconic recogniseable sites. like the scenes are all tied to#where they happen at. and the climactic battle happens in a black void around a door. its good#good story about leaving ur home after ur friends aren't there anymore and being changed so much by what you go through that#you can no longer call where you started at home anymore. I am being conned by the music#anyways. yeah I go sleep now. powered thru the last 4 pages of this so its done and out there. hope my bed will not do this#have a good night lads! be careful of bugs

I'm 30.
#one minute ago#damn I really REALLY thought I'd have my life more together#I mean to be real I 10000% did not expect to live until 30 good grief#but in my day dreams of 'what I might have been like if I lived to be an adult' this was not it#not still living like an emancipated minor in a 1 1/2 that's not even official it's more of a charity by the people who own the garage#that it's built in#not remembering to eat every day and eating the same 'gotta eat something' random assortment of whatever is in the cabinets#that I've been eating since I was 4#still working 4 jobs and not having my phd yet#literally never gone on one date and still feel too young for a relationship because I don't ever EVER want to be that guy#who doesn't know how to do anything and expects their partner to take care of them#I can barely do laundry and I straight up refuse to do dishes#I buy paper plates and cups#I'm not going to impose that on anyone#I keep thinking when I grow up I can have a relationship but I'm not old enough yet#but buddy I'm a freaking grown up now#30 is no joke#it's official#I just suck.#it's not about age its about being a garbage person#like i would never ever EXPECT my partner to take care of me but in practical terms I would fail at keeping the house clean#and they would pick up the slack becuase they don't want to live in a trash hole and would get mad and/or bitter with me for making them#living alone my bad choices only effect me#when i've lived with roommates in the past this has always been a key point of breakdown#even when I've tried to be extra dilligent I would forget a glass somewhere becuase I planned to reuse it and my roomate would wash it#and be mad that I felt entitled and expected them to clean up after me when I absolutly did NOT in fact I was horrified#that they needed to clean something up after me- I just simply lost track of it. and that was 10000% unfun for everyone involved#I was ashamed 100% of the time and they felt used 100% of the time and no one had a good time

The Philosophy of Effective Altruism
Effective Altruism is a philosophy and social movement that emphasizes using evidence and reason to determine the most effective ways to improve the world and help others. It combines the altruistic desire to do good with a rigorous, results-oriented approach to maximize the positive impact of charitable actions.
Key Principles of Effective Altruism:
Maximizing Impact:
Effective altruism focuses on ensuring that the time, money, and effort devoted to helping others yield the greatest possible impact. This involves identifying causes, interventions, and charities that provide the most benefit per unit of resources.
Evidence-Based Approach:
Central to effective altruism is the use of evidence and data to assess which interventions and organizations are most successful. This often involves evaluating scientific research, performing cost-effectiveness analyses, and assessing the tangible results of various efforts to help.
Cause Prioritization:
Rather than spreading resources across all causes, effective altruism advocates prioritizing certain areas where the need is greatest, or where the most lives can be saved or improved. This could include global poverty, animal welfare, or existential risks such as climate change or artificial intelligence.
Long-Term Thinking:
Effective altruism often involves consideration of the long-term consequences of actions, including potential effects on future generations. Altruists might consider how present actions can help reduce future risks or improve the well-being of future individuals.
Moral Cosmopolitanism:
Effective altruism operates on the principle that all human lives (and sometimes animal lives) are of equal value, regardless of where a person is born or lives. This means that people should focus on causes that provide the most help to those in the greatest need, even if they are far removed geographically.
Personal Responsibility and Earning to Give:
Some proponents of effective altruism believe that individuals can do more good by earning a high income and donating a significant portion of it to highly effective causes, a concept known as "earning to give."
Openness to Self-Improvement:
Effective altruists constantly seek feedback and are willing to change their actions or strategies based on new evidence or better reasoning. The movement emphasizes flexibility and continuous improvement in pursuing altruistic goals.
Criticisms of Effective Altruism:
Narrow Focus: Some critics argue that the focus on measurable outcomes can lead to neglecting important, but harder-to-quantify, causes such as systemic social change or cultural initiatives.
Elitism: The emphasis on high-income individuals "earning to give" can create perceptions that effective altruism is only accessible to wealthy or highly educated people.
Overemphasis on Utilitarian Calculations: The movement's utilitarian focus on maximizing good outcomes can lead to difficult ethical decisions, such as favoring saving a large number of lives in the future over addressing pressing issues in the present.
The philosophy of effective altruism combines moral concern for the well-being of others with pragmatic reasoning to ensure that altruistic efforts are as impactful as possible. It encourages individuals and organizations to critically evaluate their charitable actions, seek evidence-based solutions, and prioritize causes that yield the greatest benefits for society.

The thing that gets me about Effective Altruism that I haven't seen in public conversations, is when they're talking about how you can have the most impact by making more money to give more to charity, I have to think like, okay, but what about the people actually doing the thing?
Like, I know this is not an original argument, it's just not spelled out in videos and whatnot, but when you're spending tons of money on your calculated highest impact charitable cause, you are still paying other people to do things. Money doesn't magically make things better. The actual work has to be done by hundreds or thousands of people across the world. Even if you're giving money directly to the poor (a good thing, and quite effective), you've got a whole lot of administrative work being done to get that money where you need.
Like, it's a philosophy that not everyone can follow, not just because not everyone is lucky enough to get that money, but because there still have to be people to actually go out in the world and do the thing.

Hi, I hope you're doing well. I'm writing to you with a heavy heart and an urgent request for help. My family is in a very danger situation due to the ongoing war, and I've launched a GoFundMe campaign to save them. Could you please reblog my campaign post from my profile? Each share could be a lifeline for my family. 🙏 Feel free to share it in any other social media platform if you would like. Our campaign has been verified ⭐️ by operation olive branch, and is entry number 26 on their spreadsheet. Also with ⭐️ Project watermelon, line 249/(212) on their spreadsheet. From the bottom of my heart I want to thank you in advance for all of your support and kindness.
Ya'll beware of this one it doesn't seem legit despite being on "Olive Branch Operation"' 's spreadsheet That company is not recognized by any government or Charity websites and it's most verifying source is Wikipedia It's money going to to some scammer's pocket so please keep yourself safe

it's kind of fucked up imo that charity donations are tax write-offs. like on one hand i get it bc it gets rich people and businesses to give up some of their fucking money for once (since they have an incentive) but i don't keep track of how much money i give to charities each year. and why SHOULD i???? why SHOULD i be a little charity accountant keeping little receipts instead of just giving money to causes just because i care about people in the world???? it just seems petty and selfish to me to hand in a little slip of paper to the government that says you were such a good boy and gave money to people who needed it and you should get a reward for sharing. you shouldn't give money to charity because you want a prize at the end

thesis: effective altruism means healthcare interventions for people in third-world countries
antithesis: actually, effective altruism means maximizing the odds that the human species will expand to the stars so they may utilize (hah!) as much energy in our light cone as possible! and to do this we need to, idk, give grant money to space startups?
synthesis: people of equal talent to einstein have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops, the best way to secure that light cone is through third-world healthcare interventions
