is anybody else really tired of constantly seeing ads for AI-generated children’s slop on their kindle
amazon i have exactly 0 interest in The Fantastic Beach Treasure Hunt: A Ponk Podes
#i hope to god nobody is actually buying these for their kids#my favorite parts are#the childrens missing legs and weird faces#the crabs holding their eyeballs in their claws#and the completely nonsensical text in the top right corner#i can only imagine what goodies are inside the actual ‘’’’book’’’’#kindle#kindle paperwhite#kindle ebooks#ereader#anti AI#and before anybody says anything#i’m a communist i only use amazon when i absolutely have to which is basically never#the kindle was originally bought by somebody else who gave it to me as a gift. i did not spend a dime on it#every book i read on it is transferred from my app that lets me borrow ebooks from my city’s library

I like how the death of literacy is because tumblr users watch kids cartoons and not that we live in a capitalist hellscape where you don't own what you have and curating your internet space to include anything of substance is increasingly inaccessible
#sorry im thinking abt the ppl who post abt this#obviously im biased im the kids show enjoyer im gonna say im not the problem#but like I have to pirate most of the books I read because my library doesn't have much available online and going into town is a bit of#an ordeal not factoring in that ebooks are way more accessible for my dyslexia and brightness sensitivity (and also need to be lying down#most of my day bc. bad back)#and I'm literally IN A HIGHLY WALKABLE ACCESSIBLE TOWN#I'm not defending ppl who r like#wow this real life problem is just like my blorbos#but thats not a kids media exclusive L and more importantly if you want people to read more you gotta make it like. appealing#like u gotta qctually hype up reading but ur so irony poisoned it's always the wrong kind of book or they're not engaging with it correctly#and if they do it exactly like you want but then don't make it their entire personality then clearly they're just doing it for your approval#I think the 2000s going so hard on reading and being a kid who reads that it becomes a special chosen one heroic not like other girls trait#was a mistake bc now a bunch of 20 somethings think that they're single handedly saving their generation from degeneracy#by like calling their peers cringy#this wasn't prompted by anyone btw im just thinking of old posts on here

so i bought a record player and not to suddenly turn into this huge music snob or w/e the fuck but like. as much as i will die defending streaming music (bc there IS something to be said for having literally any music at your fingertips! digital downloads are valid! really fucking hate the way older millenials+ will complain about streaming like it destroyed music) like no one is wrong to say that there really is something different about physical music. like. turning records is different than streaming. putting a little cd in a cd player is different than streaming. something something the connection of physicality really does make the practice of interacting with art different. not better necessarily but different in a visceral way.
#liveblogging life#i feel the same way about physical books btw#i hate the term 'real books' bc the book is the story not however it's packaged (e.g. ebook vs physical)#but i'll be honest!!!! i prefer physical books. like ebooks are great and i love being able to carry my whole library with me#but! the physicality of interacting with a book makes the experience so different for me - and for me it's something i prefer#i didn't know for sure that i would feel the same way about music but i definitely do#it's been so long since i listened to physical music and this is bringing back my pure joy of listening to my cds in my discman as a kid#like when i would just listen to whole albums over and over again bc i loved them#streaming has lessened my ability to do that or want to do that but i can tell using records will bring that back for me idk#anyway i have many thoughts & feelings re: the way humans connect with art physically and our sensory attachment to art#a final note that setting up this record player took 10 years off my life it was so finnicky and didnt want to work at all at first lmao#and whenever my cats even walk near it it makes me nervous lol

i’ve been hyping the library to all of my friends lately and some of them have started getting cards this shit works btw
Some skinny pretty white girl needs to post a tiktok like "Come with me to get a library card 💞💞" and record herself going to the library and filling out the application and etc and it needs to go viral so people start going to the library
#libraries are so cool#if you do audiobooks or ebooks the libby app is a life changer#pls get a library card you can probably fill out the form online#and then all you have to do is ask the librarian when they get there and they’ll set your card up#it’s so easy and libraries have the coolest programs#for community and family not just kids reading#anyway yeah libraries are great

...I had a guy come in today asking about how to get his kids library cards. I told him. He asked me how hard it would be for them to get them, and I said that all it took was their presence and his government ID.
He told me about how nice the system was here, where it was so easy to get a card; he said that there was a beautiful public library in Beijing that was top of the line and everything, but that the only way to access it was if you were a high ranking government official or a top professor or something. Instead, our library "serves the reader." His kids will be able to take chapter books home at no cost. He'll even be able to get books in Chinese here so that his native language skills don't atrophy.
I didn't even really know what to say, so I told him how to ask us to buy books for him that we don't already have so that he can still read them at no extra cost. I don't know how to shore up what it must feel like to know that there are books out there you can't read; I've always grown up with a good library nearby. It reminded me of working in my old library, though, where families who spoke Spanish were startled to find out we took any government ID with a formal address in town— even foreign IDs— so that their kids could get access to all of our titles in all the languages we offered.
Ah. Anyway, I hope you check out a library book with this thought in mind. I checked out the first volume of YJ98 today with that thought in mind. I didn't have to pay anything. I put it on hold, and there it was.
Edit: for those who struggle with reading comprehension; no, this patron interaction is not meant to represent the status of the Chinese public library system at large nor the country of China itself; this was my response to a random Chinese immigrant dad's anecdotal concerns as he expressed them to me, because the whole breadth of concern I'm responsible for while on desk starts and ends at recommending which library services would fulfill his needs. If you think he misunderstood or was lying about the status of public libraries in China, that isn't something I'm charged to verify before writing my thoughts and feelings about the patron interactions I was exposed through throughout my day. Expecting anything else is absurd.
Edit edit: Also, your library may not actually use Libby as the distribution method for their ebook collection. The best way to find out about how to access your library's ebook collection is to call them directly.

read asoue to weeman as a bedtime story he liked it YAYYYY
#i set up a oneblock mc workd 4 him bc hes been obsessed w them#took me a while bc im an idiot FJFBFNN but i got it. nd he was having fun but itsba school night#but he was in my room playing so eventually i convinced him to turn off mc (meryl my computer came in with an assist (battery low warning so#i could say I think meryl is getting tired....)) so then he helped me turn it off but was still so sad#so i offered for him to stay cozy in my room 4 awhile and we sat together and then i said we could read a story together#so he read his favorite book 2 me (not a box if anybody is curious) and then i relized my copies of asoue r in storage at current moment#Which was the bummer. but i checked out the ebook from my library in wa YAYY I LOVE LIBRARIES#so i was reading that to him :] and he was super into it asking me abt words i didnt know he even asked me Why is his last name snicket...#as if the name lemony isnt weirder NRNTJFNhes funny#but ya. and he was asking me questions abt the story (How did that fire start.... Maybe they left the oven on too long 😥😥😥) but he was#rly into it... i was a bit worried itd be a bit too sad 4 him But i underestimated him . he was very sad when their parents died but very#invested. we got abt midway through chapter 4 (klaus had just said the thing abt olaf only giving them one bed) and then he started#fake snoring. so i carried him to his room and then unfortunately he noticed that his phone was charged so he decided to play on that a bit#before bed . sigh . I did my best#nd then i told my mom and she had the gall to be like Sigh when i said he grabbed his ohone and its like. Well thatis bc you gave him a#phone to play on and whenever you dont feel like listening to him when he wants to tell you things you distract him with any screen in reach#like. yk. itis entirely your alls fault. and i feel bad#hes such a sweet kid and yes he does have a tendency to talk a lot bc hes . an autistic 6 year old who loves a lot of things and is excited#to share. yk. but most everyone just ignores him and i feel bad...#i try my best to listen sometimes i have trouble following but like. yk.#and a lot of the stuff is abt whatever youtubers hes watching which. sigh. but whtevr#idk. i worry abt him having a phone with internet access like. hes only got kids youtube and stuff but. well i dont love kids having access#to the internet so young <- guy who was doing erp with strangers online at age 7.#but. waghhhhhhfhfhrbfufbfjr. wtvr#anyways. im glad he liked the story at least im hoping i can get him into reading more#he likes reading but im gonna ask my mom if i can get all my books out of storage#theyre like. hes still quite young for most of them but ive got some old junie b jones#and i think tag would like a lot of them as well ... neither of them read a lot it makes me sad but its. understandable. my parents didnt#teach tag to read like at all and they still struggle with it#so i cannot blame them. but i think the books i liked at their age r things theyd like so ! yk.

My public library has video games and puzzles, then it has groups such as English conversation groups and teen hangs outs and tech support, plus you can reserve books from other libraries, and they have computers and printers. Plus books in other languages.
I feel like public libraries don’t get enough hype. Like, you’re telling me all I have to do is give you my name and address and promise to bring the books back and I’m allowed to take as many as i want??? And I can check them out over and over again if I need to??? And I only pay if I damage or lose the book???? If this is where my tax money is going then please keep on taxing.
#I cant tell you how happy I was once I got my licence transfered and could get a library card#and then we have audio and ebooks#all of the books at my finger tips#oh my library also has a sensory space#and I'm stil exploring what the library has#i love public libraries#the only downside is my library only has a summary reading challenge for kids and teens#not one for adults#the summer reading challenge was my favourite thing about summer as a teen#that and swimming#like the library has so many resources#plus you can alsways extend your loan on a book if you havent finished#or borrow the book again#plus sometimes libraries have talks by authors#oh my library also runs a writing group

Play ideas for chronically ill, disabled, or otherwise bed bound/low energy littles
Hi all! I am chronically ill. I am not comfortable sharing my specific diagnosis, but I am more than okay with talking about disability in general. Everything below is based on my own personal experiences and activities I like to do while stuck in bed. Everyone's body and experiences are different. I may list some things that just aren't an option for you, and that's okay. You are more than welcome to add on to this post with activities you do too!
🐛 Open the curtains and cloud watch! I like to look for clouds that remind me of animals or characters and day dream a story about them. If the weather is nice, consider opening your window a little bit and letting some fresh air into your room.
🐦 Bird watch! I have a bird feeder outside my window that I painted myself from a kid's kit. There are also bird feeders that have suction cups that can be stuck right on your window. You can also make your own seed ornaments. You could pick yourself up a kids book or two on learning to identify birds.
🌷 Get a window planter. You may need someone's help to set one up, but once they are in place they are fairly easy to care for. I like pansies and marigolds because they remind me of childhood, and they are low maintenance and do well in containers.
📖 Audiobooks are great for middles who want to read chapter books. If you have a library card you can borrow tons of audiobook, ebooks, and comics through hoopla and Libby for free. There are some audiobooks for younger kiddo books, but honestly I think YouTube is better for that.
🖼️ Scrapbooks and journals! Being penpals with another little is also an option, but I do recommend using basic internet safety and common sense. (I don't think you should do this if you are under 18). You could always scan/take pictures of your letter and send it digitally to your penpal instead.
🛏️ If you spend a lot of time in bed, and have the money to do so, I really recommend getting items to make your time in bed more comfortable. Extra pillows, or even a reading pillow can be helpful. Lap desks or bed tables can give you space to color or set up play scenes with small toys.
🌟 You can also decorate the area around your bed to make it more child like! Fairy lights, glow in the dark stars, bed canopies, posters, and the like.
🪑 I have a floor chair I use for times I am playing outside of my bed. Being close to the floor helps me feel small, but not having back support hurts after a short while. I have an adjustable one that I can lay flat on the floor as a sleeping mat. Very helpful for the times when I need a quick nap after playtime.
Check the seasonal and kids sections at dollar stores and Five Below. I usually find fun craft kits that can keep me occupied for a bit for really cheap.
🧶 Do your own crafts! I like the knit and crochet. Some people can do them in bed, but I find it difficult to find a comfortable way to do that. However making friendship bracelets in bed works out pretty well. They make great gifts, even for non little friends. Or you could make matching ones for you and your CG or favorite plushie!
🪀 Make your own sensory bin! You can find tons of tutorials and ideas online. Bonus is you can get most of the items you would use at the dollar store. There are tons of other DIY sensory toys you can make as well if you look around. Glitter/shaker bottles are pretty popular too.
🐇 Cuddle with your stuffed animals. Tell them stories. Play pretend. Read to them. They will appreciate all of it.
🎮 If you have an old 3DS stuffed away in a drawer somewhere, pull it back out. 3DS are fairly easy to install homebrew and there are toooons of kiddo friendly games you could get (check 3ds.hacks.guide for this, do not follow tutorials on YouTube or random websites as they very well could be outdated)
💊 Decorate your medicine organizers with stickers. If you use mobility aids you can decorate them as well! Fake flowers are great for decorating mobility aids and there are tons of ideas you can find online.
🍼 I have stomach problems that makes it hard for me to eat enough. I often drink Ensure to make sure I am getting enough calories/nutrients. I get the strawberry flavor and sometimes put it in my sippy cup and pretend it is strawberry milk 😋
😴 If you need rest, rest! You deserve to get as much sleep as your body needs. Babies and toddlers take naps all the time! Trying to just exist with chronic health issues is difficult enough. You don't need to push yourself.
