no one deserves a swift punch more than the assholes who edit literary magazines
oh fuck off
#first of all every writer whos dick you ever gagged on was at one time unpublished.#those who can DO. those who can’t adopt sanctimonious attitudes about magazines no one has ever heard of#I run up against this shit all the time on the submissions pages and I’m sure they have to wade thru a lot of trash. but it’s just funny to#me how writers have the most fragile egos imaginable. being smart and a good writer is worth as much as a box of cheerios. and the shit#that makes the nyt best seller lists tells you everything u need to know about the craft. oooh I’m published! yeah so is colleen hoover#get off your high horse#mine

New York Times bestselling and Bram Stoker Award-winning author Christopher Golden (Ararat, All Hallows) will publish The House of Last Resort on January 30.
The 304-page horror novel will be available in hardcover and e-book via St. Martin's Press. Read the synopsis below.
Across Italy there are many half-empty towns, nearly abandoned by those who migrate to the coast or to cities. The beautiful, crumbling hilltop town of Becchina is among them, but its mayor has taken drastic measures to rebuild―selling abandoned homes to anyone in the world for a single Euro, as long as the buyer promises to live there for at least five years. It’s a no-brainer for American couple Tommy and Kate Puglisi. Both work remotely, and Becchina is the home of Tommy’s grandparents, his closest living relatives. It feels like a romantic adventure, an opportunity the young couple would be crazy not to seize. But from the moment they move in, they both feel a shadow has fallen on them. Tommy’s grandmother is furious, even a little frightened, when she realizes which house they’ve bought. There are rooms in an annex at the back of the house that they didn’t know were there. The place makes strange noises at night, locked doors are suddenly open, and when they go to a family gathering, they’re certain people are whispering about them, and about their house, which one neighbor refers to as The House of Last Resort. Soon, they learn that the home was owned for generations by the Church, but the real secret, and the true dread, is unlocked when they finally learn what the priests were doing in this house for all those long years…and how many people died in the strange chapel inside. While down in the catacombs beneath Becchina…something stirs.
Pre-order Christopher Golden's The House of Last Resort.

i like to think that after season 2 crowley goes on another demon sprint spreading low-grade evil and wide-spread inconveniences just to spite heaven (and aziraphale, whom he hopes is watching from above).
#maybe he breaks a bunch of internet towers and everybody is forced to like idk read books for a week#which also stalls millions of high tech businesses which makes stock prices plummet#(which ends up being a net positive albeit with many many more angry ppl walking the streets now)#maybe he'd do a bunch of lust temptations#which inevitably leads to hundreds maybe thousands of queer ppl to accept their instincts and come out of the closet#and they tear their life of traditional conformity to shreds#(which again ends up being a good thing)#and then hed do a bunch of silly things like make a huge marketing scheme#to make his 6 espresso shot coffee into a best-seller#and he invents really stupid tiktok challenges to get kids to stress out their parents#all of this ends up stressing out aziraphale like crazy but he also yearns for crowley and the way he keeps doing things that lead to good#god the things i would write if i had the time#good omens#crowley

After i made kiryu walk all around kamurocho to find a quiet alley hidden from the streets thats not already taken up by bacchus i found this little bend in theatre square :) street to the left and sweet privacy (kind of) right ahead
#Yakuza loveblog#this should be one of the date spots#kiryu pages someone like hey want me to eat you out here#i was doing some field research because i kept thinking of kiryu and majima backing each other up into random alleyways#like usually id imagine the empty space behind serena but rverybody and their mother love to stand there and smoke so theres not much hope#for real privacy for an extended amount of time there. so i kept looking for smaller shittier alleys where they could conceivably bump and#grind without alerting too many people. the best place to find places like that is that cramped shopping district but i hate navigating that#place so i went walking all around and everywhere. the place where the mushroom seller was. was also pretty out of the way ... and little#asia too but everybody walks in and out of there all the time and theres always a guy smoking in the kitchen there but its not impossible ..#the public toilet in the small park in the upper right is pretty cool .... i was looking around for toilets too#mach bowl has some toilets that would probably be a lot nicer than ones outside ...#the champion district also isnt viable for frottage because theres always someone walking through it#places like the one i found are literally in short supply ....

#funny. i was thinking earlier about my goal as a writer#my dream scenario. if you will#that best possible outcome type thing#when i was younger i wanted to be published but the concept was loose#as i developed and honed my skill talent whathaveyou#i realised i had no desire to be some times best seller#or be featured on oprah Winfreys book club#or some other such accodale or pretentious shit of equal regard#nope#i am not ashamed to say that the absolute highest honour i could be given#would be for my poetry/writing to be studied in schools#i LOVED English lit lessons#i loved finding the deeper meaning#and. despite the fact that i fell out of love with consuming poetry#i love the ebbs and flows. the freedom. the way the penship guides you to read as the writer spoke#the flowing of prose. the patter of limericks. the depths of all that lines beneath and between the lines#so yeah. to me anyway. nothing ciuld be greater#than some indifferent kid finding themselves wrapped up in the flows i weave and delving deep#as they plunder into the possibility of what i meant. and frame it alongside what it means to them#or a teacher. enthusiastically engaging their students overflowing with the genuine enjoyment of my own voice#yes yes#nothing could be richer#maybe maybe one day if im lucky#and if not. then my children (if im blessed) can discover their mother in a whole other way#writing#poetry#dreams and whatnot#mine

The opening words to Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone have been voted among the most memorable and captivating opening lines from the world of literature BY AMAZON READERS.
Yeaaaah... no further questions...
It was number 5, but I still think that’s too high.
#Always check who did the voting#because chances are it was somebody who was absolutely not qualified to do so#I mean have you seen amazon's best selling books?#they're worse than the new york times best sellers...#this is ''Prince William voted sexiest bald man alive'' all over again#turns out they came to that conclusion based on how often google searches of him included the word ''sexy''#which is a bit flawed as voting systems go to say the least...#because ''why is prince william so incredibly not sexy'' or ''prince william sexy wife'' would count as votes as well...

Terry Pratchett about fantasy ❤
Terry Pratchett interview in The Onion, 1995 (x)
O: You’re quite a writer. You’ve a gift for language, you’re a deft hand at plotting, and your books seem to have an enormous amount of attention to detail put into them. You’re so good you could write anything. Why write fantasy?
Terry: I had a decent lunch, and I’m feeling quite amiable. That’s why you’re still alive. I think you’d have to explain to me why you’ve asked that question.
O: It’s a rather ghettoized genre.
Terry: This is true. I cannot speak for the US, where I merely sort of sell okay. But in the UK I think every book— I think I’ve done twenty in the series— since the fourth book, every one has been one the top ten national bestsellers, either as hardcover or paperback, and quite often as both. Twelve or thirteen have been number one. I’ve done six juveniles, all of those have nevertheless crossed over to the adult bestseller list. On one occasion I had the adult best seller, the paperback best-seller in a different title, and a third book on the juvenile bestseller list. Now tell me again that this is a ghettoized genre.
O: It’s certainly regarded as less than serious fiction.
Terry: (Sighs) Without a shadow of a doubt, the first fiction ever recounted was fantasy. Guys sitting around the campfire— Was it you who wrote the review? I thought I recognized it— Guys sitting around the campfire telling each other stories about the gods who made lightning, and stuff like that. They did not tell one another literary stories. They did not complain about difficulties of male menopause while being a junior lecturer on some midwestern college campus.
Fantasy is without a shadow of a doubt the ur-literature, the spring from which all other literature has flown. Up to a few hundred years ago no one would have disagreed with this, because most stories were, in some sense, fantasy. Back in the middle ages, people wouldn’t have thought twice about bringing in Death as a character who would have a role to play in the story. Echoes of this can be seen in Pilgrim’s Progress, for example, which hark back to a much earlier type of storytelling. The epic of Gilgamesh is one of the earliest works of literature, and by the standard we would apply now— a big muscular guys with swords and certain godlike connections— That’s fantasy. The national literature of Finland, the Kalevala. Beowulf in England. I cannot pronounce Bahaghvad-Gita but the Indian one, you know what I mean. The national literature, the one that underpins everything else, is by the standards that we apply now, a work of fantasy.
Now I don’t know what you’d consider the national literature of America, but if the words Moby Dick are inching their way towards this conversation, whatever else it was, it was also a work of fantasy. Fantasy is kind of a plasma in which other things can be carried. I don’t think this is a ghetto. This is, fantasy is, almost a sea in which other genres swim. Now it may be that there has developed in the last couple of hundred years a subset of fantasy which merely uses a different icongraphy, and that is, if you like, the serious literature, the Booker Prize contender. Fantasy can be serious literature. Fantasy has often been serious literature. You have to fairly dense to think that Gulliver’s Travels is only a story about a guy having a real fun time among big people and little people and horses and stuff like that. What the book was about was something else. Fantasy can carry quite a serious burden, and so can humor. So what you’re saying is, strip away the trolls and the dwarves and things and put everyone into modern dress, get them to agonize a bit, mention Virginia Woolf a few times, and there! Hey! I’ve got a serious novel. But you don’t actually have to do that.
(Pauses) That was a bloody good answer, though I say it myself.

f1gossip Eagle eyed twitter fans believe they have discovered the identity of Max Verstappen's new girlfriend.
24 year old Y/n L/n is a 3x New York Times best selling author and is shortlisted for the Booker Prize Award 2023 with her second novel Swan Song. She released her third novel, Bloodhound three weeks ago to critical acclaim.
She was spotted spending time on a yacht in St. Tropez with Max earlier this week and fans connected an Instagram post shared by the author and a story posted by Max the same day.
Max has admitted to not being a big reader, claiming to have only read four books in an interview earlier this year - two of which where L/n's novels. He began following her in 2021, she followed him back in early 2023.
Could we be seeing a new couple in the paddock soon??
