We used to MAKE THINGS in fandom. Manips were works of love and skill. If we incorporated someone else's work, we credited. Yeah sure it's not as easy as having ai make your blorbos kiss, but it also wasn't soulless. It was amazing because a person MADE it.

Opened Reddit by accident while trying to type in a bands youtube channel and saw this:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ChatGPT/comments/1guhsm4/well_this_is_it_boys_i_was_just_informed_from_my/
Well this is it boys. I was just informed from my boss and HR that my entire profession is being automated away. For context I work production in local news. Recently there’s been developments in AI driven systems that can do 100% of the production side of things which is, direct, audio operate, and graphic operate -all of those jobs are all now gone in one swoop. This has apparently been developed by the company Q ai. For the last decade Ive worked in local news and have garnered skills I thought I would be able to take with me until my retirement, now at almost 30 years old, all of those job opportunities for me are gone in an instant. The only person that’s keeping their job is my manager, who will overlook the system and do maintenance if needed. That’s 20 jobs lost and 0 gained for our station. We were informed we are going to be the first station to implement this under our company. This means that as of now our entire production staff in our news station is being let go. Once the system is implemented and running smoothly then this system is going to be implemented nationwide (effectively eliminating tens of thousands of jobs.) There are going to be 0 new jobs built off of this AI platform. There are people I work with in their 50’s, single, no college education, no family, and no other place to land a job once this kicks in. I have no idea what’s going to happen to them. This is it guys. This is what our future with AI looks like. This isn’t creating any new jobs this is knocking out entire industry level jobs without replacing them.
Don't ever let any AI-supporters try to claim that AI will 'never make people lose their jobs!' because it's already been happening before this, and now this thread is full of stories of people talking about people being laid off from jobs they'd worked for 40 years to be replaced by AI :/
*this* is why it is so important to not tolerate generative AI, even when it's "just a joke" or "for a meme" I'm just eternally greatful that Tumblr hasn't been completely swarmed with AI generated images the way facebook has...

THIS!
I used to make manips with a no-cost image editor app. No fancy AI generators, just basic editing functions that had already been around for years. I did it because it was fun. In a sad way, I'm relieved I dropped the hobby, because if I still did it, I'd probably be accused of only using AI at this point. The purpose of creating something is that you get to do it, the way you want! I have around forty playlists on my Deezer account, and all of them are curated by me. I hate that AI shit. I know there's a bit of it in everything, and some can be helpful, but I detest the kind that completely renders the whole point of art or enjoyment mute.
no, spotify, i don't want to use ai to "turn my ideas into playlists". i already fucking do that with my brain and hands and i do it for fun. what, should i get ai to pet my cat for me? to play my silly games for me? to spend time with my beautiful wife for me? how about i rend you asunder

chatgpt is the coward's way out. if you have a paper due in 40 minutes you should be chugging six energy drinks, blasting frantic circus music so loud you shatter an eardrum, and typing the most dogshit essay mankind has ever seen with your own carpel tunnel laden hands

The Archon's Daughter
Inspired by @grandkhan221b ‘s goal to replace all the ai art on the asoiaf wiki because FUCK AI
A lot of sources say that Tyroshi culture is based on Italy, specially Milan so I dressed her in a renaissance inspired dress. Her dress and jewelry are Baratheon colors because she married Orryn Baratheon. Tthe lace is Myrrish and her gems are from Pentos. Her little bird broach is a reference to Tyorsh metalwork since I couldn’t incorporate a flamboyant hat. However, her hair and fingers are inspired by India- the hairstyle being a reference to the Hindi serial, Porus and the fingers referencing Alta dye. I figured if Tyroshi people loved maximalism and dye, they would find a way to color their fingers as well. Her blue under eye makeup is inspired by ancient Egyptian makeup as well.

File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Privacy Options > Privacy Settings > Optional Connected Experiences > Uncheck box: “Turn on optional connected experiences”
Microsoft Office, like many companies in recent months, has slyly turned on an “opt-out” feature that scrapes your Word and Excel documents to train its internal AI systems. This setting is turned on by default, and you have to manually uncheck a box in order to opt out.
If you are a writer who uses MS Word to write any proprietary content (blog posts, novels, or any work you intend to protect with copyright and/or sell), you’re going to want to turn this feature off immediately. How to Turn off Word’s AI Access To Your Content
I won’t beat around the bush. Microsoft Office doesn’t make it easy to opt out of this new AI privacy agreement, as the feature is hidden through a series of popup menus in your settings:On a Windows computer, follow these steps to turn off “Connected Experiences”:
File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Privacy Options > Privacy Settings > Optional Connected Experiences > Uncheck box: “Turn on optional connected experiences”

For those not in the know, this is one of the Amanita mushrooms referred to as a Destroying Angel. Never, ever, ever, ever forage with an app. Especially for mushrooms.

Since the whole thing with NaNoWriMo has gone down, I've noticed that one of their former sponsors, Ellipsus, has cut contact with NaNoWriMo because they do not support their stance on AI; I didn't know what Ellipsus was, but upon further research I've found that they are a writing platform that works a lot like Google Docs and Microsoft Word, only with a heavier leaning on the story-writing aspect and connecting with other writers - and they also completely denounce any use of AI, both in the writing process itself and in the use of their platform. I really appreciate that.
Since this is the case (and since I've noticed Google has begun implementing more AI into their software), I've decided to give Ellipsus a try to see if it's a good alternative to Google Docs (my main writing platform). It's completely free and so far, I've found it simple to use (although it is pretty minimal in its features), and I really like the look of it.
I figured I'd spread the word about this platform in case any of you writers would want to give it a try, and if you do, let me know how you like it!

WHAT 🤠
@erinwantstowrite
@starlord-the-endless I don't want them to steal your art :(
IMPORTANT: TUMBLR HAS MADE A DEAL WITH MIDJOURNEY/OPENAI.
YOUR ART AND IMAGES ON TUMBLR ARE BEING USED TO TRAIN AI MODELS.
The opt-in is automatic, but you can turn it off in settings.
Go to "Blog Settings" -> "Visibility" -> "Third-Party Sharing" and turn on "Prevent third-party sharing for [blog]". (This post shows how to do it on browser and on mobile.) You need to do this with every sideblog. (Note: The option in settings might not appear if your app hasn't updated yet. You can still opt out via browser.)
Spread the word. Everyone on Tumblr needs to know about this.

Good news, fellow artists! Nightshade has finally been released by the UChicago team! If you aren't aware of what Nightshade is, it's a tool that helps poison AI datasets so that the model "sees" something different from what an image actually depicts. It's the same team that released Glaze, which helps protect art against style mimicry (aka those finetuned models that try to rip off a specific artist). As they show in their paper, even a hundred poisoned concepts make a huge difference.

(Reminder that glazing your art is more important than nighshading it, as they mention in their tweets above, so when you're uploading your art, try to glaze it at the very least.)
