Rereading again, and it's really interesting to note just how different the early art style is from the later style- and especially from the anime itself. With the manga, you can at least see where things came from; in the anime, it's a fairly radical departure that is only barely recognizable as what it's meant to be, at least in regards to Joker himself, specifically.

The early manga has lots of sharp points and angles, creating a character that, even if he behaves in largely similar ways, still feels almost entirely different from his animated counterpart. No wonder I was so put off by the anime's designs, originally- and that I had gotten the impression that he was older than he actually wound up being, or was type-cast as. Funny how I now largely prefer his anime design and personality, even if it's altogether not that different!

Fun fact, when I first started reading, before I had started watching the anime (and even for a bit after I had started), the voice I had for Joker in my head was the same as Kaito's, from Magic Kaito- which, as far as anime goes, would be from Detective Conan and Magic Kaito 1412, specifically. Even if he seemed older, at least in looks, in my head he very much still read as a bratty teenager, it would seem.

i like normal Childe!! almost as much as i like Foul Legacy... not quite tho. the circled ones are the ones i'm unsure/hesitant on because Childe has a lot of layers, he's a complex lad!!! i like him but it's hard to explain why... he's like a stress toy i would squish when nervous or mad but also i love him and want a hug but also the common fan characterization of him is so rancid to me that sometimes i want to stay 100 miles away. none of this makes sense at all, but long story short i like him very much but only certain characterizations of him (like mine), especially ones that give him depth, love those a lot

I literally just redesigned her but now I wanna tweak bits of her again

While it was super annoying how long this took, I did have fun challenging myself to not draw her stone faced, and to play with her ears and antennae factoring into the expressions.

If I left her hair normal you wouldn't even see the eyes, so of course I had to change her hair for this

If I draw anything more of her before I finish my series of Hazbin Hotel characters with pony.mov expressions, it's definitely going to be a hairstyle challenge or something. I loved the braids I had for her originally but those are hard to draw and the twin tails here are too reminiscent of Velvette for me ngl 🥲
