i never would have thought of it but i can definitely see the cass daredevil similarities with the self destructiveness and the ability to kill but choosing not to. im so curious about what ur reasoning is for jason and spidergwen
I think Jason as spider gwen really shows my thinking process when it comes to this like combin Jason and spider gwens stories - Jason todd is still adopted by Bruce, he can still be a hero but he can also not be, it doesn't really matter bc a big enermy of Bruce still kills him and like gwen Stacy he stays dead but years down the line a new Jason shows up from an alternate universe were Bruce died instead of Jason - Jason with spider powers aswell would give big scarlet spider vibes but bc this is a Jason from an alternate universe you can really go any which way hero villain wise and also bc marvel is a bit more wishy washy lines blurred with their heroes villains it doesn't really matter

Found a Downton Abbey ficlet of mine on an old external hard drive. It made me laugh, so I decided to upload it here. Posting it exactly the way I wrote it more than a decade ago. 400 words. Set during season 2, it features banter between Thomas and O'Brien, and appears to be setting up Thomas getting back with the Duke of Crowborough 👀
“I don't care 'ow many times she asks me, I'm not holding that bastard brat of 'ers.”
“You and me both, I never cared much for children.”
“Is that so, O'Brien? You make for a lousy woman.”
“An' you an even worse bloke.”
Thomas' eyes squint in amusement as he releases the smoke from his lungs. He takes another deep drag while thinking of something witty to reply. The only thing that comes out of his mouth, though, is a wild coughing fit.
“The 'ell's wrong with you?”
“... Nothing,” he finally mutters with watery eyes, not even bothering to look back at her. “Just remembered something.”
O'Brien is left with a half-smoked fag on the ground and the sound of Thomas' boots on the gravel.
His mind is focussed entirely on the oh so familiar figure walking past on the distant pathway that goes around the abbey. Of course he could very well be mistaken. But no, that voice coming through the front doors...
“- just as in my memories. Very fond ones, I must say.”
Leather creaks slightly as his fists clench. His mouth tightens as well. The urge to walk away is overwhelming, but he seems frozen in place. Fixated on the man that looms in front of him.
Then Mr. Carson notices Thomas. “Ah! Thomas! I do believe you met this gentleman before. The Duke of Crowborough will be gracing us with his stay.”
He tries not to flinch, and succeeds, as the Duke turns around slowly and smiles at him. His expression gives away pleasant surprise and also shows some uncertainty, which in turn puzzles Thomas.
“Hello.”
It almost sounds apologetic. Yet Thomas does not reply, instead he gives him a curt nod and a long glare until he finds the strength to walk past them.
Miss O'Brien is already in the kitchen, reading the newspaper. She looks up when he enters.
“You look more cross than usual.”
“It's the Duke. He's back at Downton.”
“Why? Did he get his arms blown off or something?”
“Seemed fine to me. Pity.”
He never really told her why he hated the Duke with such a passion. She probably figured it had to do with his snobbish ways. That was only half of the story though. But he'd rather die than tell her about his humiliation.
“So what's the plan?”
“... Avoid him.”
“Really, is that all? You disappoint me.”
“Give me time.”
“Don't worry, we'll get him out of 'ere. There's more than one way to boil a slug.”
“...”

Oh dear @rosesnink , I really adore reading the story of Roselyn, the ex-wife of Ernest Sinclaire. It felt so real as if it really happened to her. Such a lovely moodboard you created for her. And mentioning her brother, Renard (later disguised as Sir Gideon). Marrying a rich man to provide a living and then suddenly getting attracted to a powerful Duke. This is it!!! After an affair and realizing what a cheater and awful man the duke was, she regretted everything and felt sorry for Ernest. The pure, kind, handsome, loving, and perfect husband, Ernest Sinclaire, hated her because of that affair which broke his heart, but he still treated her fairly. Such a true gentleman while Duke Richards just plays around to seduce every woman. I'm glad she realized the truth.
The Other Woman
Author’s Notes
Aaaand we’re back on TCH stuff!! This story is not my favourite, but it’s been fun to explore. As I said in the fic, I am not justifying Roselyn’s behaviour, but rather looking for a reason on why she acted like that and understand her point of view as a writer. Make it make sense, unlike PB here.
English is not my first language, so please forgive any typos/grammar mistake I might’ve made.
If you want to read the whole story, here’s the link!
I will be publishing stories like these of other characters this week, like Miss Sutton or Edmund, so stay tuned for more!
Summary: Roselyn tells us her side of the story
Word Count: 2.9k
Category: Angst
Pairing: Roselyn Sinclaire, Ernest Sinclaire, Duke Richards
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Death, grief, adultery, strong language and major death character
Book: Desire and Decorum

1796, Paris, France
The young Roselyn D’Ouleur played with her doll, watching as her mother sighed, looking at the family’s books. It was late at night, and the French Revolution was at its peak. What was worse, the prosecution towards nobles was worse than ever and Madame Guillotine was stronger than ever. Though, young Roselyn was suspicious, but her brother Renard was getting even more suspicious.
Suddenly, their father, Henri, came into the house, panting “Quick, we need to pick out the essentials and get into a boat now!”
Pierre, who was eleven, frowned “But Papa, we thought we wouldn’t go until next week!”
“Someone snitched on us and the revolutionaries are on their way here! Odette, quick, pack Rosie’s things and get her dressed, we don’t have much time!”

So I got bored and researched the Batfam’s names, here’s what I got:
Damian: “to tame” Wayne: “wagon maker” Al Ghul: “of the demon”
Tim: “gods honor” Drake: ”Dragon” or “male duck”
With Dick I used Richard because it makes more since to
Richard: ”brave ruler” or “king“ Grayson: “son of the gray-haired one”
Duke: “leader” Thomas: “twin”
Cassandra: "shining upon man" or "excelling over men" Cain: “acquired", "craftsman", and "spearer"
Jason: “to heal” Todd: “fox”
Bruce: “The willowlands” Wayne: “wagon maker”
In all honesty, great name choice on the creator's end because in the 1800s, wagons sold for $25-30, while large wagons cost double to triple that. So, it was a well pay if anything, and it’s perfect for the millionaire aspect.
Alfred: “Wise counselor” Pennyworth: I couldn’t find anything other than that it was a phrase that originated in Britain (the phrase is now rarely used due to nothing costing a penny anymore).

The latest in the Steddie brain rot, so you now those crossword thingies where they say the first three words use see are x (your love life for the next year, your new year's resolutions, stuff like that)?
There was one for fan fiction, the words I saw were enemies to lovers, historical, and time travel.
I'd link to it but FB refreshed and I lost it.
But buckle up, babes, we're going in for a ride.
Hawkins has always been hell. There was no denying that. Eddie in 1983 isn't sure he's going to graduate high school. Yes, he knows it's only October, but school really sucks.
All the bullshit with his dad and trying to make life suck just a little less, he accidentally stumbles on a Gate. But not to the Upside Down. At least monsters he handle (not really, but he's trying to be brave), but snobbish upper class in the middle ages? Yeah, that's going to be a problem.
Like he knows how to talk and how to act, he's be researching the hell out of that stuff since he was a kid.
He doesn't know how to get back , so he kinda wings it and becomes a traveling minstrel. Like it pays decently enough and people will talk to him.
Then he hears of a little princeling who hasn't smiled since his mother died and King Richard is willing to pay a handsome sum to whoever can make the prince smile.
Eddie decides to take up the challenge. If he can get into court, then he have more of ear to the ground to be able to get back to his own time.
The initial audition does NOT go well. The king doesn't like him and the prince is in different.
So Eddie runs his mouth. It really should have gotten him killed or at least thrown in jail, he calls the prince a couple of rather choice insults. And holy fuck, the Prince smirks.
It's not a smile, it should have not counted as one. But the king does. He tells Eddie, now named suitably Edwin (yes he knows his parents named him Edward, but Edwin seemed older somehow), that he now has 30 days to turn that smirk into a real smile as that is when the ball for the Prince to chose his bride and he can NOT have a dour son.
Eddie gets thrown into the Prince's room and is told to stay there until after the ball.
And now he's pissed. That was not the plan. He needs to find a way to get back home. To running water, heated buildings, and flushing toilets.
Dressing up is one thing, D&D is another, but this is Hell. What he wouldn't give to go back to the hellscape that was Hawkins High.
The prince he's learns is named Stephan, so piss him off Eddie calls him Stevie.
The two are hostile to each other. Steve doesn't want the ball, he doesn't want to laugh or smile. He wants to mourn his mother in peace, thank you very much. Which pisses Eddie off. He didn't get the luxury of mourning his mom, and he was much younger than Steve. Dude is nearly twenty. Grow up.
They start snapping and sniping at each other. But close proximity to each other starts to wear off their sharper edges, and they learn to tolerate each other, then like each other.
Then just two days before the deadline, Eddie makes Steve laugh. The King is overjoyed and now Eddie feels terrible. He forgot the price to be paid for making Steve was laugh was to lose him.
As he's packing up to go, a duchess named Eleanor slips into his room and tells him she knows he's from the future and she knows how to get him back. He needs to stay at the castle. So she "hires" him as her personal bard.
Steve is surprised and happy to know that he's still around. The ball comes and he's introduced to a lot of beautiful, rich, well connected women. Lady Christine from France, Duchess Tamera from Russia, Countess Annaka from Germany, and Marchioness Martina of Italy. (Am I borrowing from my other medieval story? Maybe a little. Shush!)
Steve is forced to wait on these women hand and foot, all the while his cousin, the Thomas, the Duke of Hagan is cozying up to King Richard, making an all to obvious bid for the throne.
Lady Eleanor has figured out how to get Eddie home, but Eddie doesn't want to leave without Steve, so he tells him who he really is. Steve wants to believe him , but it's so fantastical.
He starts packing up a bunch of his clothes, his mom's jewelry, and some trinkets from his past that he wants to keep. He has about three bags full and Eddie is getting antsy.
Steve runs into Lady Christine and tells her he's running away and she can either move to the side, or he's going to have to tie her up and gag her. Because he will not be stopped.
She winks at him and runs to the opposite direction Eddie and Steve are going and starts screaming there is an intruder in the castle.
All the guards go rushing to her, leaving the path Steve and Eddie need to travel free.
They get to the gate and Lady Eleanor shoves an scroll into Steve's hand, telling him that all she asks in payment is that when the time comes, when meets a little girl named Jane, with extraordinary powers to give her the scroll. It will help her end the troubles once and for all.
They jump through the gate and they land in the forest behind Forest Hills, just three days from when Eddie left.
Eddie does not graduate that year, because he's too busy teaching his boyfriend modern life and dealing with actual fucking monsters, who knew?
Steve gives Eleven the scroll when he learns her real name is Jane and she has so many questions, but with the information Lady Eleanor gave her, she can completely collapse the entire system. Return it to just a place where nightmares come from and not actually evil.
It takes a lot of effort and some major team ups, but she does it. The Upside Down is no more.
Eddie keeps asking Steve what he's going to with the stuff he brought with him, until Steve sells one of the trinkets to a museum and gets serious money from it. Steve explains that historians are the same no matter the era. You show them something that will blow theories out of the water and they will eat that shit up.
And they live happily ever after.
A lot of museums come calling but after learning about vaults hundreds of feet below their building, hiding treasures from the world out of greed, he will only sell to earnest collectors and small well funded museums that he in turn donates to.
Steve also learns Thomas and Christine married but he died shortly procuring an heir and she took over as regent making her the best queen they ever had.

Wayne Family Portrait
Bruce Wayne
Febuary 19, 1981 was the best day of Thomas and Martha’s lives, quickly replacing the day they had been married. At 5:30pm, just as the sun was setting, their son Bruce was born. Bruce was a happy child, sent to a prekindergarten that focused more on social-emotional development than crystal intelligence. He learned how to socialize, how to talk to people, how to be a Wayne. His parents cared for him deeply; he grew up loved, confident in himself, and absorbed everything anyone would teach him. It was a shame he broke when they died. Batman was born in 1991.
Dick Grayson
Richard Grayson was born on March 20, 1998. Growing up in the circus, he was flexible, strong, smart, and blended well with people. Truly everything you could want in a child. When his parents died, he was devastated, but he wasn’t alone. Taken from everything he once knew, and thrown into a new world, a world where he could hide from the pain, he decided instead that he would always be his mom’s little Robin. In 2008, two years after he was adopted, he took to a new stage. Now all seven of his little siblings have shared his act.
Barbra Gordon
September 23, 1998 was the end of the beginning for Barbra, but the beginning of the end for her parents. When her mother left Gotham her father got default custody, but Barbra never knew that. Growing up the daughter of the police chief in one of the most dangerous and corrupt towns in the country meant that Barbra learned certain skills and habits fast. In second grade, she was the first to befriend the new boy in class. He turned out to be a good friend to make, teaching her several circus tricks. Now she’s teaching him some things too.
Jason Todd
August 16, 2004 was a rainy day in gutters of Gotham. Jason Todd has never been a part of a family he likes, and he’ll tell you that himself. His mom left, his step-mom overdosed, and his father was killed working as a hired thug. Left to fend for himself, he stole from the wrong guy and ended up in yet another family. Jason is pretty sure Bruce carries adoption papers in his utility belt. Today he argues with his family as much as he fights villains, but what can he do. He may not like them, but they’re his.
Duke Thomas
Duke is seventeen and rather new to this crime-fighting thing. He’s also new to this ‘having money’ thing. He buys food for his classmates because he can, and no one at home asks him why is lunch account always needs attention. When things happen at school, he’s no longer a suspect, even if he did it. He misses his old life, but he feels like it’d be ungrateful to mention. He hasn’t figured out yet that everyone in this house would rather be somewhere -someone- else. Still, he’s learning a lot and the future is the brightest it’s ever been.
Cassandra Cain
January 26, 2008 phase one of creating a new weapon was completed. That is all. Cassandra was never given a voice or a choice. She was trained, then released on the world. A world she wasn’t ready for, and when the game ended, she couldn’t play another round. Cassandra learned to love Stitch, they had very similar families, and like the little alien, hers was broken, but she found it all by herself. As silent as a shadow, she stalks the night. An Orphan who knows both of her parents are still alive, who she isn’t strong enough to kill.
Tim Drake
Tim doesn’t have blood running through his veins anymore, he replaced it with coffee years ago. He doesn’t sleep because in his dreams he has to face the truth, no one wants him. He was in another country, in boarding school when his mother went into witness protection following his fathers death. Did she remember that she had a son? No one else did. The bats did not want him either, he knew that. He idolized Dick, who tolerated him. Jason hated him, Damian might kill him, Bruce needed him too much to care about him. The girls were, well…
Stephanie Brown
Stephanie didn’t need the bats, strictly speaking, but working with them was easy, was fun, was- well it reminded her that there was more to her than her father. She felt awkward, having gotten into the gang by dating Tim, then quickly trading him for Cass. But, such was life when you’re in high school she supposed. She thought it was funny though, all the boys were the same, you couldn’t tell them that, but they were, all sadness behind their bright smiles. But she and Cass and Babs, they complimented each other; friendly, silent, and omnipotent. They owned Gotham.
Damian Wayne
He knew that he wasn’t better than them, but he also knew he had to be the best. Damien had never been allowed to be anything less than the best. And with seven older siblings, siblings that had been chosen at that, this was certainly not an exception. He would not disappoint his father, he would fight crime, he would be an angel in public, he would get A’s, he would get sleep. He would monitor his siblings strengths and learn, their weaknesses and adjust. The greatest of them all. Maybe one day, he could even be a real boy.
Smile
The lines on Bruce’s face are beginning to show the strain he’s been under, how many times his nose has been broken, how many injuries will never heal. Damian’s smile is bright and staged, exactly as you would expect from a boy his age. Dick has a more natural smile, you could almost pretend it meets his eyes. Steph and Cass are definitely looking at the camera, not each other. Barbra has a more professional look to her. Duke looks as lost as the others feel. Tim and Jason try not to kill each other before the flash goes off.

The Black Swan hideout Sophie and co. go to in Neverseen is called Alluveterre, which is Dwarven for “The sands of dawn”. Terre is similar to terra, which is Latin for Earth. This suggests that Dwarves didn’t cut contact with humans until the 7th century BC at the earliest, when the oldest recorded use of Latin (a phrase on a cloak pin) is dated to, which is far later than the Elves did.
The Elves stopped overt contact c. 3000-2000 BC, which dramatically decreased influence on the Enlightened Language from human languages if it didn’t completely stop it. However, Cassius is a Latin name, suggesting human influence on the Enlightened language continued to c. 699 BC-750 AD. Elves also stopped covert contact with humans in the early to mid 1940’s, which completely stopped human influence on anything, including language.
Actually, Fitzroy means “son of the king” (see Henry FitzRoy, Duke of Richmond and Somerset, Henry VIII’s only acknowledged, illegitimate child), so there was probably some linguistic influence, at least from England around 1190 (Richard FitzRoy, son of King John) to 1737 (Barbara FitzRoy, daughter of Charles II of England).
Della is short for Redaline in Della Vacker’s case, but it’s also a nickname for Adelaide.
Avery is from early medieval England and France. (400-1000)
Amberly likely takes inspiration from amber (Middle English, Old French, Arabic; 199 BC-1500 AD), and -ly became a popular suffix for names in 1970. Alden’s position as an Emissary may have sent him to the Forbidden Cities around that time and influenced his and Della’s choice in middle names for their daughter (born about 2000).
Tam and Linh are also popular in Vietnam and Linh is of Chinese origins, suggesting East Asian influence at some point.
Redek also ends with a K, which is also common in Slavic surnames, meaning there may also be some influence from there.

Fanfic Rambles
Jason Todd with long hair AU. #MistakenIdentityAU #TwinAU #EverybodyLovedJasonTodd
Was daydreaming and thought of a funny little prompt about Jason after coming back from the dead and becoming the red hood (but before all the bat drama like beating Tim or yknow, tryna kill everyone) he runs into Dick while in his civilian form and the other in his Nightwing getup.
Naturally, Dick sees a guy with a similar face to his dead little brother, but buffer and taller than he could have ever gotten because of his malnourished state growing up. Sees all his scars which HIS Jason never had. The white streak in the hair, green eyes, AND lets not forget the long hair.
He sees all this and comes to the conclusion that this isn't his Jay but either a doppelganger, clone, hallucination- OR twin. But the possibility of it actually being Jason Todd doesn't even cross his mind. Because from his memory, Jason would have never willingly adorned long hair. After all, he made it known of his distaste for his own long hair back in his Discowing era.
(Little did he know that Jason loved his hair INCLUDING his Discowing suit, and that he only made fun of it because he was a little kid who didn't wanna show that he admired his big brother who didn't exactly wanna be his big brother at the time. So he made sure to make fun of him at every opportunity, ESPECIALLY, his hair. Because in truth the hair was his favorite part about the outfit. Somehow, everybody fell under the illusion that he did in fact hate the hair the most, including Alfred.)
Jason seeing Nightwing is like, shit, I was found out already. He begins panicking in his head only for Nightwing to pluck a piece of his hair and run back into the shadows (off to go confirm his theories- the one about it possibly being a hallucination already crossed off with the physical evidence in his hands)
Later on the DNA test comes back with it not fully being Jason (lets just say its due to the Lazarus pit plus a side effect of dying and coming back to life) and he comes to the conclusion that he's a long lost twin and goes to tell the other bats about the newest addition to the family (they're not giving him a choice in the matter of course).
(Random scene I thought of in this AU but it takes place once it's revealed that Jason is actually just Jason- not his twin, duh -and everybody loves each other.)
"You know, you're really good at this"
Stephanie says as she sits on the ground in front of the couch, with Jason behind her brushing through her hair. Her eyes are closed in content as the older boy runs his fingers through her scalp, gently brushing each blond strand with practiced ease.
Jason scoffs, his own hair tied back into a half up and half down style.
"Of course I am."
Cass plops herself next to Jason on the couch and stares at him with a mostly blank but hopeful expression. Jason rolls his eyes.
"Yeah yeah, you're next you weirdo. Wait your turn."
"What about me Jay?" Dick whines from across the room where he sits with Duke at his side and Damian on the other, drawing in his sketchbook with Alfred the cat and Titus laying on his lap. Damian looks up and sends his brother a look of disgust.
"Must you act so childish Richard?" Dick just laughs and ruffles the boys hair.
"Don't act like that Dami, I saw you sneaking them glances too!", the boy turns red at this, "I'm sure Jay will love to brush your hair too"
"Yeah Damian, I'm sure Jason would just love to brush through your wittle soft hair" Tim adds in teasingly from his place on another single couch, with his phone in one hand and his body lazing about with his legs dangling over the armrest. Duke sends Dick a look, the two aware of what will naturally follow.
Damian lets out a strangled noise before pouncing on the older boy, the two wrestling on the ground while Dick watches with a look of fondness.
They've come a long way from this sort of scene being something worrying, but now just the show of two brothers playfully fighting. No real harm actually being done.
Jason just sighs.
"You know what- yeah, not like you're all vigilantes and trained to bare getting shot and stabbed but will whine over having a turn to get your hair brushed. Nah, whatever, it's totally normal, I mean cope however you want I guess..."
Everyone just gives him wide eyed innocent looks, though many were suspiciously hiding a grin there.
Tim stares a bit from his place being pinned down by his little brother (who is being told by Dick to get off now) and Jason once again rolls his eyes.
"Yes, including you replacement" The boy smiles, bright and wide, and when did the nickname become something said out of warmth instead of the previous jealousy?
"Well Master Jason, I feel as if someone else is feeling a bit left out" Alfred says as he places a plate full of snacks on the coffee table.
Stephanie looks up at the elder, and then looks at the mans head with a dubious face.
"Uhm, I didn't know you'd be into this Alfie" The man in question deadpans at the girl.
"I wasn't talking about myself unfortunately, I fear that the I'm quite lacking in the department needed for this activity."
"Don't worry Alfie, I feel your pain from here" Duke says, with his own deadpan. Steph winces and whispers my bad. Cass giggles at the exchange.
Someone else muffles a snort, which then follows up with the clear sound of getting hit by something (or someone).
Alfred simply tilts his head in a direction, which Jason finds is the door hiding a shadow there. Watching.
He huffs a breath, and for the millionth time rolls his eyes.
"B, if you wanted to have your hair brushed then you coulda come in here and said so like a normal person. I swear, you guys all got your lack of communication skills from him"
"Not me!" Stephanie makes known with a triumph look.
"Me neither" Dick says, but earns raised brows from everyone in the room. "Okay, never mind then" he takes back his words with slumped shoulders, Duke jokingly patting his back in comfort as the older man pouts.
"I..." Bruce who has finally exited the shadows, reveals himself in casual sweats and the most dad-sweater to ever dad.
"I'd like that a lot chum"
Jason just huffs out a laugh.
"You're all terrible, I hate you guys and hope you all die."
Everybody simply smiles at him.
"We love you too Jay" Dick says with clear affection in his eyes.
Jason just returns to his previous actions of tying the blond teens hair, styling it to his best ability.
"I mean it, twice over"
Bruce sits on the other side of Jason and ruffles his hair.
"Of course, son"

Truly,madly and royaly
P1
"I take thee to be my lawful wedded husband "
Dan is going to kill danny.
He's going to make it slow and painful, and maybe it'll stick this time.
honestly, what was that little brat thinking?
Was he even thinking?
When danny insisted he stay and play his role as  The prince of erdurne and duke of dragaltia, while he himself go the Astantia kingdoms as high king of erdurne assisted by his queen regent and deputy jasmine nightingale to negotiate peace of all things, Dan had assumed he'd lost it
But now? Dan is angry at himself for not seeing the trap for what it was.
Now when he is standing at the altar waiting for his to be husband - because apparently peace is sealed by a marriage of all things - Dan imagines his head served on a plater
Prince Danijel of erdurne stood tall at the altar, his eyes fixed upon the golden chalice resting before him. The great hall, resplendent with tapestries of green and silver, seemed to hold its breath in the stillness. The air was thick with the murmurs of courtiers and justirian nobility, their eyes keen with expectation, yet the prince felt a disquiet settle in his chest, a tightness that nothing could seem to ease.
"to have and to hold from this day forward"
His heart, though accustomed to battlefields, fluttered uncomfortably at the thought of what was about to transpire. A marriage. A union not of choice, but of necessity. And to a man he had never met.
The prince's brow furrowed as he watched the grand doors at the end of the hall swing open, ushering in a procession of attendants. It was then that he saw him—Richard, the prince of the neighbouring kingdom, who would soon be bound to him for eternity.
"for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer"
He was tall, with the bearing of one who had been trained in the ways of both court and combat.
His dark hair fell just above his shoulders in gentle waves, his face sharp and strong, like the marble statues that adorned the palace gardens.
His eyes—those piercing eyes, a shade of blue the likes of which Danijel had never seen—flashed with a mixture of determination and an unmistakable grace.
Danijel's lips pressed together in irritation. It was not the man, nor his beauty, that troubled him, for Richard was undeniably handsome in a way that seemed almost otherworldly.
It was the entire spectacle—the politeness and formality that had led them here. Richard’s kingdom had been ravaged by war; there had been no time for such petty courtesies.
"In sickness and in health"
Yet there he stood, poised to pledge himself to a stranger, simply because his father had deemed it necessary.
Richard’s approach was slow, deliberate, each step in time with the sound of soft music that floated through the hall.
The nobility around them watched in silence, and Danijel could feel the weight of every gaze upon him the distrust in them.
It was then that his annoyance wavered for a fleeting moment. Richard’s presence—graceful, calm, and full of a quiet strength—was something to behold. He was everything there I'd to admire in a prince, a king. He was a prince worthy of respect, even if their union had come about through the machinations of others.
As Richard drew near, dan noticed he held himself with an air of nobility that was not born of arrogance but of a quiet self-assurance, the sort of confidence that only true royalty possessed.
Curious, considering it was widely known, he was not in fact born into this life.
Dan stood, his fingers twitching with impatience as the ceremonial chants echoed through the grand hall.
"to love and to cherish"
Beside him, Richard stood—handsome, poised, the picture of princely decorum. The man offered the slightest of smiles, but to Dan, it felt like an intrusion.
There was no warmth in his chest when he thought of Richard, no flutter or spark of desire. The man was simply a pawn, another piece in the bigger game.
Charming, perhaps, but ultimately, just another link in the chain of obligation that bound him. This union, like so many others before it, had been made for peace, not love. And that was all.
The ceremony dragged on, the vows spoken in monotonous tones, each word a weight that settled deeper within him.
"from this day forward,Till death do us part"
The ring slipped onto his finger like a shackle, and Dan's jaw tightened in silent frustration.
Peace. Security. Alliances.
These were the things that mattered now, and nothing more. His mind wandered to the life that awaited him—one in which Richard grayson-wayne  would be his husband.
There would be no real connection, no partnership of love.
Just two men bound by duty, forced to share a bed as though it were any other arrangement, any other business deal.
The hollowness of it gripped his chest, the space where intimacy should be, where a true connection should flourish, now filled with cold sterility.
The air in the hall was thick with the scent of incense and the murmurs of the court. Dan could hear the prayers, the vows, and the anthems, but they were all empty sounds to his ears.
Richard, clearly quite the diplomat, remained composed, his presence calm and unassuming.
But Dan could feel the quiet tension between them. Neither of them had chosen this. Neither of them had a say in the matter.
Richard, now his partner, was no more a companion than the gilded ring on his finger. The weight of the contract was not just in the words spoken, but in the years that stretched before them, It was a price, and Dan was paying it—though not willingly.
He tried to muster the appropriate level of affection as the priest uttered the final words, but it felt like a farce.
His gaze lingered on Richard for a moment longer, forcing himself to look away.
"You may now kiss your intended"
The man’s smile was a mask, one that offered no comfort, only the reminder of the hollow formality that stretched before them.
This union, this marriage, was nothing more than a sealing of a pact. A burden placed upon him by the powers that be to safeguard the kingdom’s peace. And no amount of ceremony or pageantry could disguise the reality.
With that in mind, Dan leaned in and pressed his mouth to Richard's in a quick, chaste kiss
The crowd erupted into applause as the final rites were completed, but Dan heard it as a distant echo. The cheers felt hollow, like they'd rather this union had not happened at all.
