like i’m sorry, but the van der linde gang are not a family and if you believe that, dutch has manipulated you too. dutch uses the family framework to keep those he manipulates loyal. hosea and dutch are not the “mum and dad”, that’s fanon characterisation. arthur and john are not the sons or brothers, they were both boys groomed by dutch into a lonely and selfish life, robbing and stealing. and though they are close and brotherLIKE, they are not brothers.

it just upsets me to see a lot of good rdr artists getting smeared on twitter by fans who think they’re a better person for not touching the morally dubious pairings. personally, it makes sense for me that this group of outlaws in the 1890s, who’ve lived so close to each other, would have intimate relationships. they’re not a cute family living out in the country, they’re a group of criminals who’ve done a lot worse than fuck a guy that they’ve grown up with. it’s so odd to imprint 2024 shipping morality politics onto a bunch of cowboys from 200 years ago. i guarantee your not winning any awards for playing it safe in fandom.

The differences in kiln god rituals are very interesting. My pottery professor in college had my friend and I make kiln gods for the new kilns he got on their first firing, and they just belonged to the kilns and didn't receive any type of glazing at all. Just fired the once and hung out to watch over the kilns after both they and the kilns survived first firing.

as far as I can tell, it’s more typical that kiln gods are left unglazed and stay attached to one particular kiln.

the reason I glaze and finish mine is because there’s very little space in the kiln room at the studio I go to, and we’re not allowed to leave things in there. so I put kiln gods in the kiln with my pieces, to keep an eye on things.

I know at least one other potter at my studio keeps her (unglazed) kiln god on her shelf. it’s a little gnome creature. but she used to keep it in the kiln room at the old studio.

I was taught about sculpting kiln gods during a raku class, the instructor encouraged us to make them. before that, my instructors had only mentioned kiln gods in a “hopefully the kiln gods will be kind” way—they hadn’t talked about the possibility of sculpting them ourselves.

because the raku kiln lives out in a field, we were told to take our kiln gods home afterwards, that they’d done their jobs and they could retire. that idea really stuck with me, I guess. I like them getting to retire.

at some point maybe a year into our relationship i told my ex that if a partner ever hit me i would immediately leave them with no discussion (i think a part of me knew i was in danger even then and that’s why i felt the need to assert this boundary) and my ex became fixated on this and often brought it up as a point of concern, presenting me with elaborate hypothetical scenarios in which this hypothetical partner would be worth another chance even if they hit me, and saying she was uncomfortable with the idea that i would leave over one mistake or moment of weakness. and oh my god?? oh my god. and for years after that she made a point even in her most blacked-out rage states to do everything short of hitting me: she pushed me, she pinned me against the wall, against the couch, in the corner of the room, she grabbed me by the shoulders and shook me, she hit the wall (a lot), she used her considerable physical strength to intimidate me and prevent me from getting away/leaving the room. she talked about wanting to hurt me. everything she could possibly do short of hitting me. and if i had never recognized all those as a form of physical abuse (which they are, even though i never had any bruises on me) i don’t think i ever would have had the courage to understand that her obsession with that boundary meant she knew she would cross it at some point. and i’m glad i left before she did and i’m so angry i didn’t leave sooner. i will never be the same but i will also never let someone treat me that way ever again.

rewatching season 3 for the first time in forever rn and. the doctor and jack make me so sick dude. i feel sooooo unwell about them. like imagine you meet rose and the doctor, these amazing people that you find yourself traveling with and coming to care for, then one day you end up left behind by this man that you trusted, alone and fundamentally changed forever—back from the dead. you wait for over 100 years, searching for him, and when you finally find him you learn that he abandoned you on purpose. that he views you as something wrong, something that he can’t stand to look at. a fixed point, something not meant to exist. this guy that you loved and trusted, telling you all of this right to your face. like that’s crazy
