Dark Souls I Covenant Alignments
I realized that the 9 covenants in the first Dark Souls game fit pretty nicely into the 9 alignments of Dungeons and Dragons. I think I actually saw the idea from the videos that Codemanster0 made on the covenants ages ago, but I disagreed with a few of his placements and wanted to give my own spin on things. So I figured I’d break down which one goes where, and why. Obviously, this isn’t gospel, as the morals in these games are vague and complex, and if you disagree, I’d be more than happy to hear your points. It’s all for fun anyway.
Spoilers for Dark Souls ahead!
Tumblr media
Lawful Good: Princess’s Guard
For a given definition of “good” given how Gwynevere’s dad is a back-stabbing, paranoid monster, plus her illusion is just something made by her younger brother Gwyndolin to trick Undead into following the Chosen Undead lie. But The Princess Guard doesn’t go out of their way to bother anyone else unless they’re intruding on a very private sanctum in a city that’s tantamount to The Vatican. They help each other out with healing magic and, as far as I know, Gwynevere never did anything to hurt the masses (that we know of) and was pretty well-liked by everyone. A code of ethics and an overall pretty benevolent leader (or once benevolent? Maybe?) make them the best choice for Lawful Good.
Tumblr media
Neutral Good: The Way of White
These guys could also qualify for Lawful Good, since lorewise, they take it upon themselves to escort maidens that are sent on holy pilgrimages through dangerous areas (unless you’re a spineless cretin like Petrus), and also serve a pretty rigid orthodoxy. Where the Neutral part comes in is that many players in The Way of White are just starting out on their journeys and want to be pointed in the right direction by other, more experienced players, and The Way of White helps with that, keeping invaders out while making it a bit easier to summon similarly aligned characters for assistance. The want to go one’s own way, while quietly keeping out of trouble whenever possible is why The Way of White lands in Neutral Good.
Tumblr media
Chaotic Good: Warriors of Sunlight
These guys are here to help, and can often prove to be a beacon of hope in troubled times. But they also go where they want, help who they want and often don’t stick around in one place for long. They got their own quests to take care of, after all. They’re definitely the good guys, and probably the most outwardly supportive of the nine covenants, but they’re free spirits, and thus Chaotic Good.
Tumblr media
Lawful Neutral: Blades of The Darkmoon
They have a duty, and that’s to hunt down sinners. It doesn’t matter if we’re talking about Lord Umbra-omni the Blood Drinker who kills people for sport and pleasure, or someone that got booted from their covenant for breaking a rule by mistake, if you sin, you need to be punished. But if you keep your nose clean, they’ve got no reason to come after you, and might wind up being your lifeline if someone really nasty comes for you. Even if their leader is holding up a regime that is slowly killing the world, Gwyndolin doesn’t know any better, as his dad’s beliefs were beaten into his head from childhood, and overall, a covenant that’s specifically made to punish people who do wrong is a pretty upstanding thing to create. So the Blades land in Lawful Neutral.
Tumblr media
True Neutral: Path of The Dragon
About as neutral as you can get, really. People in this covenant aim to strengthen themselves through 1 on 1 combat. And unlike some of the evil covenants, you need to actively summon them if you want to fight, so they won’t show up out of nowhere to kick your ass and take your stuff. Their morals are all about them getting stronger in order to become immortal, and they better themselves, for whatever reason they might have, in a fair and honorable way. True Neutral.
Tumblr media
Chaotic Neutral: Chaos Servants
No, I didn’t just pick this covenant for Chaotic Neutral just because of their name. Their goal is pretty noble, gathering humanity for The Fair Lady to ease her pain. This can be done the normal way, by collecting it, beating bosses, stopping/challenging invaders etcetera. But on the other hand. Hey. You have humanity. Hand it over. Look at Kirk, he disguised himself as a Darkwraith simply because they had better humanity-gathering equipment, and he is a determined son of a bitch, invading you up to three times for some of that tasty humanity. The other thing that is quite chaotic about this faction is the whole… egg thing. Sure, a player can’t get another player sick with egg parasites, but all those worshippers very much can, and some of them are hostile regardless of your affiliation. The fact that there’s no real moral boundaries in how you get humanity, plus the fact that being near some of these guys could be enough to get you sick, lands them in Chaotic Neutral.
Tumblr media
Lawful Evil: Forest Hunters
These guys were tricky, and honestly I think there’s a case for putting The Princess Guard or Way of White here instead since their leaders are so manipulative, but I think The Hunters fit here for a number of reasons. Unlike the Princess Guard, who are in an extremely difficult to reach hidden city you have to very definitely trespass in on purpose, these guys have their territory as part of The Darkroot Forest, which any shlub can wander into, and they rip any trespasser to pieces. Hell, unless you really know what you’re doing to get around them, you’re sure to run afoul of these guys without even meaning to before you even get the chance to pledge yourself to them. Sure, there is the fact that they’re guarding Artorius’s grave from robbers, which is pretty noble, but their leader Alvina doesn’t even seem to care much for Artorius, flatly telling people his legend is a lie (which is true, she was there) and not seeming to care all that much if you kill Sif and loot Artorius’s ring. I always got the impression Alvina just didn’t like humans all that much, and used this covenant as an excuse to keep the forest free of any human that didn’t promise to fight for her. The fact that they look out for one another and only guard one particular area makes them Lawful, but their general disregard for human life and the “stab first, ask questions later” mentality makes them rather Evil in my eyes.
Tumblr media
Neutral Evil: Darkwraiths
These guys are bad news, plain and simple. They want humanity, and will kill anyone for it. They dress like grim reaper knights and will ambush people just about anywhere. Their leader, Kaathe, raises some good points if you manage to speak to him. Gwyn is a massive coward that messed up the entire world because he didn’t want give up his power, and is using you, the player, as another piece of wood to throw on a fire that should have gone out ages ago. But, this is Dark Souls, so Kaathe is also responsible for probably the single most dangerous being in the story, Manus, going berserk and spreading The Abyss throughout the world, as well as teaching humans how to basically eat each other’s souls in order to become even stronger, all to force an Age of Dark. Darkwraiths’ wanton stalking and killing of people to boost their own abilities puts them squarely in Neutral Evil.
Tumblr media
Chaotic Evil: Gravelord Servants
It’s their goal to spread death, and they take it with them wherever they go. Just by being in someone else’s world, more dangerous creatures pop up, so there’s a better chance of death. If we wanted to be a bit more speculative, it probably also means that everyone else in that world is plagued with misery as well. Imagine you’re a hollow soldier milling around in Undead Burg, when all of a sudden bright red and incredibly tough animals and ghosts popped up and started attacking people, it would be pandemonium. Nito’s motivations are quite vague apart from creating more dead people to serve in his army, but his creepy silence as a covenant leader makes him feel more like an unfeeling, uncaring force rather than any kind of personality. Morality is pointless, go and KILL. Chaotic Evil.

top 5 souls weapons!!
This list is gonna be heavily slanted toward Dex and casters <3 These are my favorites, not a thoughtful list of the best for anything.
Balder Side Sword - simple, classic, can carry you allllll the way. Has a gloriously long lunge to go with its sweeping attacks. Get you a Dex sword that can do it all. I picked up several while trying to get all the Balder armor and enchanted them all for different uses.
Nightrider Flail - Jingle jingle! It's a flail with three heads! You'll put your eye out! This is a completely absurd weapon. Also, it may be the only way my Tarnished has to crack heavy armor. I like it a lot for being a bludgeoning AND bleeding weapon, and for having an extremely satisfying overhead slam.
Black Knight Halberd - Legitimately my favorite moveset in DS1. <3 High requirements, but it's so worth it for the reach and power. Beats the graceful Silver Knight Spear by a hair.
Lizard Staff - IT IS A STAFF WITH A DRIED LIZARD ON IT. The lizard doesn't do anything. It cracks me up. I love it. Alas, I did not manage to get one for my hexer. DS2, you are so silly sometimes.
Darksword - on the list for aesthetics as well as my affection for Darkwraiths. This one isn't a Dex weapon, but shh.
Honorable mention to the Blades of Mercy, for their elegant design alone.

Second ds1 randomizer is being a bit more rough. Undead burg is pretty terrible. I had to jump down to lower undead burg to be able to get into the room after the bonfire without aggroing a skeleton wheel, darkwraith, black knight, one of the spellcasters from the dlc, and big crystal guy all at once.
I went all the way down to patches in the tomb of the giants, i cant use the bonfire there because i dont know the way back up and trying to find it without a light source sounds terrible so i stopped there. Got the basement key though, which let me skip the sanctuary guardian in place of the taurus demon.
Unfortunately the first of the two bell gargoyles is kalameet. I think ill need to aim for the quelaag bell first. Next time i play I'll hit up the forest and then make my way to the blighttown back entrance

What sort of worked in Dark Souls doesn't work in any of the other games, imo. And DS1 only managed it probably because it was such a new, experimental thing and gets lenience for trying to experiment with the idea. But, if you dissect it, it was always a bad system, it's just increasingly obvious now with Elden Ring that it was a shitty system that needed to be completely reworked.
Ultimately, the Soulsborne multiplayer system only works for invaders who do not give a single shit and just want to fuck people over. Everyone else gets a crappy experience in some way or another.
It was never truly 'optional.' You just completely avoided it by never turning human in DS1, which also locked you out of getting help via co-op. And that's kind of where ALL these problems start, that a thing that's basically required for normal co-op/being helped by normal players also opens people up to being hurt randomly by invaders. This causes more frustration and randomness than things like dedicated duels or having invasions specifically be a mechanic players actively choose to be in.
Making it default to being invaded if you want to play with others (or do things that allow you to play with others, like humanity/embering) that someone might show up to fuck with you is not good design. People who just want to play the game with friends will randomly get fucked over by some asshole. People who are just playing using a mechanic in the game that offers a bit more health/resistances also get fucked over randomly by some asshole. People who want to invade and actually have it be fair get fucked over because they'll get randomly ganked by a crowd of people, or come across people they should never have been matched up with to begin with.
And, every time someone gets killed, that means going through the clunky system to attempt to resummon them for co-op.
In a game series known for being difficult and resulting in the player dying a lot. To the point that death is an active mechanic in the games in-story.
And all these problems apply to all the games. However, each of the other Soulsborne games with multiplayer have their own unique problems. (DS2 has invasions on by default for EVERYONE at all times unless they specifically use an item to stop it in a specific area, DS3 has the whole issue with embering and how you also get it by killing bosses/story progression, and Bloodborne has bell-ringing women in certain areas that summon actual players.)
Elden Ring's co-op and invasion system is a fucking mess. It's a game that almost feels like it should be more co-op centered because of the larger map and world, but it really hurts to do so compared to single-player. Things like how you can't have Torrent if either invaded OR playing co-op, when the game's map is clearly designed around having Torrent is a bad idea. That you can't flee from an invader to a different region is also a bad idea. Etc.
Because of how co-op works, there's also not really much reason to do co-op on bosses in Elden Ring. With bosses, it makes those bosses increasingly difficult as their health pool gets even more bloated than before. (And Elden Ring has some seriously bloated health pools.) At best, it only helps for the split aggro, but since spirit ashes are also a thing, there's no... point to actually summoning someone, since that avoids the increased chunkiness. Spirit ashes are another topic for another day, but they cause a massive mess in making most co-op kind of pointless on a mechanical level. (And I'm still upset that the Mimic Tear is basically our character, but better, because they can actually take a hit.)
On the invaders' end, DS1 had reasons to invade outside of a player role-playing on their own time. You had dedicated factions and rewards for engaging with the mechanic. For example, a Darkwraith covenant player will suck more humanity out with Dark Hand as they level up in the covenant.
The rewards for invasion in ER are really pitiful (Rune Arcs and the Great Runes really aren't worth it in general). There's also no factions to properly ameliorate these other issues. Mohg's and Rykard's factions should be part of a covenant system focused on invading other players for lore reasons, but they simply aren't. There's no real point in doing the invasions either as a Bloody Finger or a Recusant outside of the 3 required invasions (that you don't actually have to win) for Varre's questline.
ER having the colosseum is actually a sensible decision, since that means people have a dedicated duel system. Previous games, people would find random locations and set down hostile signs in spots and they would use those locations to duel, like the area just behind Pontiff's arena in DS3. (That doesn't change the other problems with the system, however.)
elden ring discourse about invaders generally goes over my head because i think overall the solution to most people’s problems would be to just… make it optional. like have a setting where you can turn invasion off. sometimes people want to just play with their friends and goof off. in my experience invaders were only ever really obnoxious because it interrupted playing with a friend, and often meant we’d have to go through the tedious process of setting up co-op mode all over again. i can’t imagine it was a good experience for invaders either — we were literally often on brand new save slots in the very beginning areas at like, level 10. we’d usually just have to sit down and wait for them to just kill us or whatever because we literally did not stand any chance with our gear at the time.
and like, its not the invader’s fault either. they literally don’t have any mechanic to let them choose who to invade based on level or progression. they don’t have a way to avoid or even TELL who doesn’t want to be invaded. i don’t think you can even easily end an invasion by choice, you have to either kill the host or die.
it’s incredibly silly to me that there’s not a way to opt-out of invasion because it would fix so many problems. people who don’t like pvp don’t have to play it. people who actively enjoy pvp and are seeking it out aren’t wasting their time against people who aren’t there or prepared for pvp. this feels so obvious i feel like i must have overlooked the setting to do this. am i missing something here?

another thing about the sin/darkmoon thing in ds1 is that, iirc, you can accumulate sin by breaking the terms of your covenant/switching without properly leaving your old one, even if it’s an objectively Evil covenant like the darkwraiths. suggesting that velka/gwyndolin place just as much importance on oaths and honesty as they do on moral "good”, which feels very fitting for the twins to me

he Could have just been referring to New Londo as the land swallowed by darkness, but that feels like an extremely weird way to refer to kind of a pretty small area geographically, so imo the only reasonable way to interpret it (given that darkwraiths appear in DS1 and not in DS2) is that he's talking about Lordran
oh hey also. why haven't i ever seen anyone mention that ds3 canonized the age of dark as ds1's real ending

Dark Souls x Warriors
So, it occurred to me today that Dark Souls would be a perfect fit for a Warriors/Musou crossover game. Here are some thoughts in no particular order.
I'm not sure Bloodborne would work as well, since I feel like it has less iconic NPC's, but I'd love for it to feature as DLC, especially at least as a level or two since the environment is the best part. I haven't played Sekiro, but again I suspect it would make for great DLC featuring Mr. Die Twice himself and a level or two.
Elden Ring has a lot of iconic characters, but I feel like it almost goes the other way and is too big for me to remember specific ones.
Regardless of "why", the real "why" of focusing on DS1-3 is because that's just what I want to do. Oh, also haven't played Demon Souls. Put it on Xbox, cowards.
So first off, I figure there has to be a male and female avatar for each of the three games. Hyrule/FE Warriors also introduce original characters, so perhaps that would fit too, especially if they fill a similar role, but with the original three protagonists appearing as enemies initially.
The point is: the protagonists, like in Hyrule/FE warriors, would be the most versatile ones able to equip multiple movesets. Dark Souls and Warriors are both series known for having varied movesets per weapon.
So, list of Dark Souls 1 movesets:
Axe
Hammer
Greataxe
Great Hammer
Fist
Shield
Spear
Polearm
Scythe
Curved Sword
Katana
Curved Greatsword
Straight Sword
Large Sword
Ultra Large Sword
Piercing Sword
Pyromancy
Sorceries
Miracles
Daggers
Whips
Lantern?
Bow
Crossbow
I figure shields get paired with straight swords, or perhaps any of the one handed-feeling weapons, but it's not a huge deal. I figure we adapt each of the three main magic types into a moveset. I don't think the DLC dark magic is bountiful enough to adapt here, but obviously from 2/3 we have hexes as an additional moveset.
Dark Souls 2 introduces a couple new movesets.
Claws
Lance
Twinblades
Hexes
Greatbow
Now, Dark Souls 2 of course also introduce power stancing. I figure the weapons that fit that motif have it incorporated, like daggers, fists, claws.
I don't think DS3 introduces new weapon types, but it does add weapon arts, which would be needed to inject some more fantastical elements and variety to the movesets.
As for armor, I think you include each of the protagonists in the box art armor, plus options for the starting class armors. I will circle back around if there are any other armor sets that strike me as iconic but are not associated with NPC's.
And the real meat: which NPC's I would include from each game!
DS1:
Solaire, duh
Laurentius - as pyromancer rep
Petrus -MAYBE but he is on thin ice
Ingward - looks cool but maybe just have him as a merchant
Crestfallen Warrior - maybe
Lautrec - his armor is too cool not to
Andre of Astora - maybe, he could wield the hammer
Shiva - cool armor, cool weapons
Siegmeyer - duh
Darkmoon Knightess - her armor is cool and female rep
Gwyndolin - One of the smaller bosses, I think it could work
Priscila - I think you'd have to shrink her but DS sizes have alwyas been wonky
Blacksmith Vamos - Just make him Andre skeleton
Patches - duh
Sieglinde - not essential, but just make her an alternate for Siegmeyer
Ornstein/Smough - They're iconic, just shrink them
Pinwheel - joke character
Artorias - duh
Big Hat Logan - sorcerer rep
Tarkus - The armor
Black/Silver Knight - Just so cool
Havel - duh
Mimic - They're so iconic, there is some move potential
Darkwraith Knight - A little generic but cool design
Oscar of Astora - Too iconic not too include
Gwyn - Seems doable
DS2:
Benhart of Jugo - Just for the sword
Mild Mannered Pate - I think this one is obvious
Gavlan - Not as playable, but as merchant
Lucatiel - the most obvious one
Straid - Maybe as a magic character
Vengarl - In headless form
The Pursuer - he only needs to get shrunk a little
Looking Glass Knight - same
Flexile Sentry - A lot of fun moves possible here
Lost Sinner - looks cool, humanoid
Ruin Sentinel - If you shrink them...
Old dragonslayer - Overlaps with Ornstein but maybe
Velstadt - Looks cool
Dragonrider - A little generic, but nearly already a player
Alva - iconic armor
Fume Knight - player adjacent
Sir Alonne - player adjacent
Burnt Ivory King - Kind of just a big player
DS3 overlaps a lot with 1, but:
Greirat - maybe, unique moveset potential
Siegward - The obvious one, Storm Ruler is cool
Anri/Horace - Maybe as a tag team
Leonhard - Cool hat
Hodrick - Maybe
Vilhelm - Maybe
Gael - duh
Iudex/Champion Gundyr - If you shrink him, maybe. So iconic
Crystal Sage - Sorcerer rep
Abyss watchers - No brainer, summon backup for ultimate
Dancer of the Boreal Valley - Shrink, great design
The Nameless King - Just shrink, so cool
Soul of Cinder - seems like a no brainer
These games tend to only feature a handful of bosses, so we have to be stringent. A caveat could be if we manage to work in several similar bosses as reskins, for example:
Midir/Guardian Dragon/Ancient Wyvern/Gaping Dragon/Oceiros/Sinh/Ancient Dragon/Seath/King of the Storm/Kalameet as reskins
Aside from that, I think the essential non-humanoid bosses of DS1 are:
Asylum/Stray/Firesage Demon - duh, and makes for an easy reskin job
Bell Gargoyles - Seems like this one is a no brainer
Capra Demon - MAYBE
Four Sif - Iconic
Nito - iconic
Queelag - iconic
DS2:
Last Giant/Giants in general - duh
Duke's Dear Freja
Nashandra
DS3:
Vordt of the Boreal Valley
High Lord Wolnir
Yhorm the Giant
Finally, a few locations from each. I'd like to see the hub areas as hub areas, so other than that:
DS1:
Undead Asylum
Undead Burg/Parish
Blighttown
Sen's Fortress
Anor Londo
New Londo Ruins
Painted World of Ariamis
DS2:
Forest of Fallen Giants
Heide's Tower of Flame
Lost Bastille
Earthen Peak/Harvest Valley
The underground areas
Drangleic Castle
Shulva, Sanctum City
Eleum Loyce
DS3:
Cemetery of Ash
High Wall of Lothric
Undead Settlement
Cathedral of the Deeo
Irithyll of the Boreal Valley
Profaned Capital
Archdragon Peak
Kiln of the First Flame
Painted World of Ariandel
Ringed City
Furthermore, Dark Souls would fit the upgrade mechanics of Warriors well. Titanite is already an arbitrary upgrade material, and the ability to infuse weapons would fit well too.
As for iconic armor that isn't starter, box art, or associated with another NPC or boss, definitely the Drangleic, Syan's, and Heide Knight set from DS2 (or make Heide Knight playable). Definitely the silly Xanthous set or an NPC that wears it.
And I think that is all!

Most of the ones in DS1 are just terrifying, but the Darkwraith grab is sure something.
Player darkwraiths notably don't do it like that.

Dark Souls 3 - The Chosen Undead from DS1 didn’t exist
Time is convoluted. Worlds vary more than we think.
I don't see any proof that the Chosen Undead ever existed, or at least never made it out of his cell (which in itself could be because of the fate/existence of Oscar of Astora to free him).
Most of us on here have the knowledge that Dragonslayer Ornstein went out in search of Gwyn's firstborn, and the idea that the Ornstein we fight in DS1 was an illusion for the chosen undead to kill. I instead think that simply the Chosen Undead was never there to kill him.
The same goes for Gwyndolin, Priscilla, Asylum Demons, Seath, Quelaag and others who all have a place in the lore of DSIII; nobody ever was there to kill them, we never made it.
On top of this as far as I am aware DSIII never mentions Frampt in any way. Could this be because nobody rang the bells and woke him up? He simply died and all of Lordran fell and shifted over time into the version we now know as Lothric. Kaathe is mentioned and implied dead on the Japanese version, but that doesn't refer to the existence of the Chosen Undead either way (since we cannot kill him anyway), Kaathe could perhaps have been active with his Darkwraiths all the while the Chosen Undead isn't around.
We all know that everyone in the Dark Souls universe has their own unique world within the game, where characters have stories, live and die that don't go quite the same for everybody else. The world of DSIII is where the Chosen Undead never had a place and had no effect on our world.
BONUS: The Ringed City is where that Dark Soul was found. The tunnel where you fall down to fight Midir (and the area you fight him in) looks exactly like the tunnel (and area) the camera rushes down in the opening cinematic of DS1 showing the first hollows and the Furtive Pygmy finding the Dark Soul. The Pygmies may have rationally built their home city on top of where the Dark Soul was found.
I think by the ending of TRC it is made clear (by the endless scene field of ash where you fight Gael) that The Ringed City IS Londor, from the imagery of the final boss arena looking just like Londor from the opening cinematic of DS3.
DOUBLE BONUS: This is why characters we killed in DS1 have their armour sets in DS2/3, they lived/journeyed to have their own stories.
TRIPLE BONUS: This would mean Sif lived to be old and become the Great Wolf of Farron (+extra lore)
DISAPPOINTMENT BONUS: I barely know the lore of DS2, so won’t wholly commit to whether the Bearer of the Curse existed or not (but I have no reason to think he/she did)

DARK SOULS THEORY IN 3 2 1 GO
But here’s my theory. It’s a lot of reading but I mean it’s worth if you like Dark Souls….. GOOO
Ok, I'ma drop a theory. It may be half baked from the perspective of my peers but whatever HERE. WE. GOOOOO! So in DS1(Dark Souls 1) the ancient stone dragons rule over all and men, which kinda don’t exist in a way due to it not finding the dark soul of man(Humanity) and embers(From dark souls 3). So when flame was found along with the Dark Soul of Man, found by the First of Pygmy which is popularly found as Manus, Father of the Abyss. So back to the flame, Gwyn, the first lord of Cinder, sacrificed himself he had redone the kindling of the first flame after killing all of the stone dragons. But before he had sacrificed himself he had made the city of the gods aka Anor Londo and had children. The children he had were Dark Sun Gwyndolin, The Nameless King or possibly Faraam, a powerful war god who had only respect for arms and weapons, Yorshka, a half breed human dragon, and another child who is possibly revealed as a new character in the new DLC The Ringed City who I’m not sure who it is, I praise VaatiVidya for his Ringed City 10 Secrets video. There were also two more other than Gwyn and the Firt of Pigmy. There was Nito, the first of the dead, and  the Witch of Izalith and her Daughters of Chaos. Again this will come in again so be patient. Okay so you play as a chosen undead who, spoken from the crest fallen knight in Firelink Shrine, has been one of many undead to have gone through and attempt to go through and ring both bells of awakening and rekindle the fire from within Lordran. You, being the lucky bug to survive the bell gargoyles at the start. But before you get to the gargoyles you cross Solaire of Astora, a man who simply wants to be as incandescent as the sun  AKA Gwyn the first lord of Cinder. That will come in later so bear with me. Ok so blah blah blah you get to both the awakening bells that awakens Frampt, the Primordial Serpent,  and Kaath, the second Primordial Serpent. Frampt believes in the rekindling of the flame  while Kaath believes in the coming of the Dark Age. Currently, as you traverse Lordran you are within the Age of Fire which was started by the finding of the fire and first lighting of the first bonfire within the Kiln of the First Flame. So when both the bells of awakening are ringed(… Rang? I don’t know.) you can either not talk to Frampt and then go kill the Four Kings of The Abyss to talk to Kaath first, or speak to Frampt First and not ever see Kaath until New Game+. I may have skipped some steps but wait, what about Oolacile? So even before you existed you can get the DS1 DLC named Oolacile which contains the Sanctuary Guardian, Artorias of the Abyss/Great Knight Artorias, the Firt of Pigmy Manus, and the optional boss Kalameet. The first boss ,which is the Sanctuary Guardian,  I have no clue how that lion thing comes into play. Okay now to Artorias who needs some explaining! Artorias is one of the knights of Gwyn, one of four in fact, who was given the Wolf Ring which boosts poise. The ring’s description reads “ One of the special rings granted to the four knights of Gwyn. The wolf ring belongs to Artorias the Abysswalker. Artorias had an unbendable will of steel, and was unmatched with a greatsword.”  Artorias was given the duty to go out and fight the Age of Darkness, which from my point of view, is brought by the Abyss and the Dark Soul of Man aka Humanity. When Artorias had walked within the  Chasm of the Abyss and the Oolacile Township Dungeon he had one companion, Great Wolf Sif(May he rest in pepperoni). In the timeline you appear in the boss Sif is fought who wields Artorias’ greatsword.There are two versions of this sword so time to put them through. The non cursed version of the sword has the description of"Sword born from the soul of the great greywolf Sif, guardian of the grave of the Abysswalker Knight Artorias. Sir Artorias hunted the Darkwraiths, and his sword strikes harder against dark servants.“ And the cursed version reads "Sword born from the soul of the great grey wolf Sif, guardian of the grave of the Abysswalker Knight Artorias. The sword can damage ghosts, as it was cursed when Artorias joined a covenant with the creatures of the Abyss.” After killing Sif you get the Covenant of Artorias, the ring for fighting the Four Kings. The Four Kings fell the the trickery from Kaath as Oolacile had also done. Back to Oolacile, Artorias couldn’t traverse the abyss alone, he had this ring that he had to convent with the monstrosities of the Abyss which eventually infected him causing him to become the second boss of Oolacile. Now as you go to the Manus boss fight, you will see Humanity Phantoms. These Humanity Phantoms do drop the item Humanity, and the description of Humanity is “Rare tiny black sprite found on corpses. Use to gain 1 humanity and restore a large amount of HP.This black sprite is called humanity, but little is known about its true nature. If the soul is the source of all life, then what distinguishes the humanity we hold within ourselves?” As we know without reclaiming humanity one will go hollow aka CRAZY AF. Time to be serious again… Manus is popularly thought as the Firt of Pigmy which is backed up by the corpse that is slightly smaller than most of the corpses and undead found within Dark Souls. Manus’ title is “Father of the Abyss” and the Firt of Pigmy did find the Dark Soul of Humanity, hence the Humanity Phantoms. We won’t need to go over Nito and the Witches of Izalith right now due to them mainly helping only within the first game. Okay back to Gwynn. When the final fight with Gwyn within the Kiln of the First Flame you can summon Solaire. On top of this, Solaire’s armor can be seen in Dark Souls 3 although I am not aware of it in Dark Souls 2. This means after the game is finished Solaire goes through two more cycles of the rekilning of fire if not eaten by sunlight maggots first. So after the defeat of Gwyn Solaire also beats his version of Gwyn to relight the flame and make a new cycle. When he succumbs to the Sunlight Maggot he can be considered a “Failed undead” and is made into another cycle where he is resurrected in Dark Souls 3. TIME TO SKIP DARK SOULS 2 AND HERE’S WHY! I’M SKIPPING DARK SOULS 2 BECAUSE I HAVEN’T PLAYED IT…………. YET. Also if anyone reads thus far, help me with the whole Dark Souls 2 thing please ;-;
In DS3(Dark Souls 3) you play as one of the failed undeads after Lorian and Lothric decided “SCREW FIRE :D” and didn’t go the the kiln of the first flame. OK back to the first area Firelink Shrine and the Cemetery of Ash. So you wake up as a failure of the first game, known as an Ashen One.  Which would make sense if Solaire died and was awoken by another bell of awakening as an Ashen one due to his death from you and the maggot.  So when the bell tolls ,due to Lorian and Lothric being ars bananas, all original Lords of Cinder AKA Aldrich, Yorhm, the Abyss Watchers(Artorias Fan Boys), and the Soul of Cinder(Which forms when the bell tolls through another theory which I will explain now). My theory for the Soul of Cinder forming when the bell tolls is that the soul of cinder never needed to awaken until now due to it needing a worth successor to light the flame once again. OK BACK IN TO THE ACTUAL THEORY. Due to the backstories of each of the main NPCs explained by Mat Pat, thank you my hands are hurting while writing this, is that Horace, Anri, Siegward, and Hawkwood all follow according lords. Anri and Horace being for Aldrich, the Devourer???) of Gods, Siegward for Yohrm, and Hawkwood for the Abyss walkers. The way you actually come into play as the player character is that you are, possibly, a version of Solaire, although you do edit your character you can still perfectly replicate him due to the new customization. The way I am backing this up is due to the Sunlight Altar within the Lothric Castle. Although it is locked away and guarded by a Lothric Knight due to it being heresy because the Sunbro Covenant or the Warriors of Sunlight is a way of following Faraam or the Nameless King. Again the sunlight altar looks as if it is a crumbled statue of  the nameless king. And yes you may say “But the spear looks different!” But if you read more of the lore behind the weapon of the Nameless King it is a sword spear, due to the hilt and the way it was crafted. The description for the Dragonslayer Sword Spear is as follows “A dragon hunting weapon from the age of the gods. The earliest form of the cross spear, serving as both a sword and a spear. Its owner was the Nameless King, a deific hunter of dragons. The sword spear is imbued with lightning, of which he was the heir.” Note the words “Earliest form of cross spear”  meaning that there are more variations. If you look closely at the weapon in the statute the spear has a cross guard used as a secondary handle and a blade that, although is cracked off,  would be similar the a sword’s blade. Also within the fight the Nameless King uses bolts that are similar the the Sunlight Spear or Great Lightning Spear which is used by Gwyn and the Soul of Cinder’s second phase but slammed into the ground to cause an explosion. Also due to Gwyn’s first born siding with the dragons AAAANNNNDDDD an affinity for only weapons was banished, hence the statue being shattered into pieces due to the first born being banished. If, again, you look closely at the Nameless king and the Statue have similar armor engravings. Another reason why I believe the player character is a form of Solaire other than the statue of Faraam/ the Nameless King is due to the fact that he dies in the first game due to sunlight maggots while traversing Izalith. Him dying would make him a failed undead and then therefore someone worthy of being Ashen or Unkindled due to his failure within Izalith. Although there was a big spiel about Faraam being leader of the Warriors of Sunlight Solaire wants to be Gwyn’s firstborn and the player character possibly a reincarnation of Solaire within the third cycle of fire. But this theory would make sense to back up Faraam being the Nameless King and the leader of the Warriors of Sunlight. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I’m done for tonight, if you can put suggestions of what I missed within my theory and help my dark souls 2 hole.
The reason why Solaire would possibly be one of the possible candidates is that he wished to be as good or better than a GOD. So when reincarnated he would be able to redo what he had failed to become stronger than the gods themselves and beat his own god, the Nameless King. On top of this he would be able to beat Lord Gwyn to reclaim what he had originally wanted to do, be “As grossly incandescent as the sun” meaning he wanted to be as amazingly brilliant and powerful as the “Sun” or Gwyn himself.
