🪲Beetlejuice as Mephistopheles😈
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so you guys might've seen that my masquerade comic has BJ wearing this funny little get up after people were expecting me to draw him wearing the Phantom's Red Death costume.
just who is Mephistopheles?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
our devilishly charismatic fiend friend Mephisto is the reason we use the term "Faustian bargain" to refer to a deal with the devil. in the legend, Faust was an alchemist who ended up selling his soul to Mephistopheles in order to gain knowledge, power and pleasure. he is, quite literally, a trickster demon full of wit and a taste for irony looking to get something out of you. sound familiar?
Tumblr media
of course, deals with the devil didn't originate with Faust, and neither did the trope of the devil being a charming and witty character. Faust just popularized it and greatly influenced later characters following this trope. Hades from Hercules is a pretty solid example, since he takes after Satan more than he does the actual Hades from greek mythology (which is on purpose, since the movie plays with christian elements for comedic effect, like the muses singing gospel and Hercules being like a combination of Jesus Christ Superstar and Superman.)
Tumblr media
every now and then i see people complain that Lydia referring to Beetlejuice as a "trickster demon" in BJBJ messes with the lore, because "he's supposed to be a ghost," but he has always been more demon than ghost if you ask me. "trickster demon" is a perfect descriptor for him: he has a specific summoning ritual, powers beyond what normal ghosts can do, and is always always trying to tempt people into chaos and tricking them into making a deal. i'll give you knowledge, but your soul is mine. i'll save your loved ones, but you'll have to marry me.
despite this Beetlejuice and Mephistopheles are both funny characters, hardly menacing. doing fun little magic tricks and mocking wordplay, even though they can (and will) ruin your life. yet at the same time, they're not quite as evil as they might appear at first. it's always funny noting how Beetlejuice in the movies technically stuck to his word the entire time. surprisingly high level of integrity for someone like him, but that's part of why he's so great imo.
the scene in the original movie where Beetlejuice shows up as a circus attraction to get rid of the yuppies that came to Winter River to gentrify the town into a tourist trap is just the kind of thing Mephistopheles would do. same with how he gets rid of Rory in BJBJ, playing the role of the therapist to someone who used psychobabble to manipulate Lydia. ironic twists mocking human sins, that's what Beetlejuice is all about when he's punishing somebody, and it can all be traced back to Mephistopheles.
Mephistopheles is a proto-Beetlejuice, basically. or Beetlejuice is a modern Mephistopheles, however you want to look at it.
ok but why am i talking about this? well first of all, adhd. also this is one of my favorite character archetypes. i've always wanted to put my oc Rocky in a story where he's a Mephisto-type of figure. i used to think that the closest i got to that was when i crossovered him with Beetlejuice (you had to be there) but writing this post i...just remembered something. (feel free to skip the next paragraph, it has nothing to do with Beetlejuice lol)
i have this unfinished short story i started to write a while back, in mid 2018. i was miserable, going through a really bad depressive episode, and i was looking for something that could inspire me to create again and get back on my feet. just to practice and for shits and giggles i started writing a simple freeform story where a character named [redacted], who was a stand-in for myself, is suffering from writers block despite not being a writer, and basically wants to be good at writing. while muttering something about how he'd even "make a deal with the devil to become a good writer," he accidentally ends up summoning "the devil" (it's just Rocky) who's all silly and charismatic and offering him a deal. what i wrote ends there, i never finished it. but very soon after that, i rediscovered The Simpsons and started writing Those Springfield Kids. fast forward to a few years later, my SpringKids versions of the characters end up becoming part of an official couch gag animated by The Simpsons team. so. i guess...the deal worked? spooky lol (my Faustian downsides are 1. i can never finish anything i start and 2. i'm stuck here in Venezuela.)
anyway! i originally wrote this as a thread on twitter so i could introduce people to Mephistopheles since i was going to make a reference in the masquerade comic with BJ's costume. i just added a little bit more stuff (and the personal anecdote above) in this post. i would've posted this much earlier but on the day i was going to do it, my blog got nuked. now that i got it back, i can post this!
bonus: the shin megami tensei version of mephistopheles, plus david who is a reference to camille saint-saëns Danse Macabre, which i've ALSO referenced in my beetlejuice stuff a couple of times
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ty for reading
next time i yap like this it'll be about the gravediggers from hamlet and how they're another core beetlejuice archetype. ESPECIALLY musical beetlejuice.

THE DAY THE EARTH BLEW UP: A LOONEY TUNES MOVIE Movie Review
Tumblr media
Let’s be honest, when it comes to movies, the Looney Tunes brand has not had a very good run this decade. In 2021 there was Space Jam: A New Legacy, which turned out to be nothing but a shameless commercial for all things Warner Bros., and then there was the infamous tale of the shelved Coyote vs. Acme movie that may never see the light of day. So it’s with all of these tragedies that it’s a miracle that this movie, The Day The Earth Blew Up, even got released. (Granted through Ketchup Entertainment and not WB. themselves.) Not only that, but it’s also incredible that the end result is undeniably the best Looney Tunes ever made.
THE GOOD
What separates this movie from something like the Space Jam sequel, is that it is made by people who clearly love Looney Tunes. Despite the fact that we only have three characters, this movie stays true to who they are. Daffy Duck is more reflective of how his was when he was first introduced and before he started being paired up with Bugs Bunny. He’s a complete lunatic, he’s overly confident, and has a tendency to cause more trouble than what they have to deal with in the moment! Meanwhile, Porky Pig is the more sensible of the two, complete with his famous stutter. Eric Bauza does a fantastic job voicing both characters and much like Mel Blanc long before, it’s incredible how many of the Looney Tunes characters he’s able to voice to perfection. Petunia Pig is also a fun character. She manages to be the most sensible of the group, while also being crazy and…dare I say looney in her own way!
The animation is spectacular. It’s great to not only see classic 2D animation, but also 2D animation that was made for a big screen experience. The last two animated movies that I can think of that look like they were hand drawn are The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim or Teen Titans Go! To the Movies. In both instances, you watch those movies and question the reason to release them in theaters. The animation in The Day The Earth Blew Up is not only smooth and well detailed, but it also amplifies the insanity and comedy. One of my favorite gags is with Farmer Jim, the adopted father of both Daffy and Porky. While our two main characters are fully animated, Farmer Jim is mostly a static drawing played for full comic effect.
The movie is not just hilarious in how it captures the spirit of Looney Tunes, but also how it works as a parody of the alien invasion movies of the 1950s. From mind control, alien goo, 50s style flying saucers, and the title of the film itself, this movie is a perfect homage to those old school science fiction movies. However it’s mixed with that very chaotic tone that you expect from Looney Tunes and features enough twists that make the movie feel fresh and funny! The big masterplan of the alien invader is ridiculous but makes sense within the nature of the film!
OVERALL
This is about as good as a Looney Tunes movie can get and the flaws it has, aren't worth mentioning! I never got the appeal of Space Jam, and this is coming from a kid of the 90s. That movie should’ve been my childhood, but it just doesn’t work for me. As for Looney Tunes: Back in Action, I have a soft spot for that movie, but even then I can’t deny that The Day The Earth Blew Up blows that one out of the water. It’s got spectacular animation, it’s fateful to the source material, the characters are fun, and it’s jam-packed with jokes that made me laugh hard! Not to mention it has a lot of heart when it comes to Daffy and Porky’s friendship. It’s a reminder of what made Looney Tunes work in the first place and why they will endure until the end of time despite David Zaslav’s hatred for them!

errrm idk if you've already been asked this but do u have any tips on starting commissions bc I've been wanting to set up my own but I'm like super new to the biz... or whatever ok bye
no worriesss i think i answered a similar question a while ago but im not sure so i'll do my best to answer again lol
this got super fucking long so it's going under a cut
commissions are a lotta work and not just in terms of the actual drawing! it also involves a lot of marketing and getting yourself out there and learning to have good customer service. if nobody knows youre taking commissions then you wont get any! plus, if ppl dont have a good time interacting with you during the commission process, then they wont wanna come back and they wont recommend u to their friends. so its important to be patient and amicable and easy to work with when you can and also make it to where u and others can spread the word about ur work!
unfortunately part of getting a decent amount of commission work depends on how much reach you have and what the demand for your work is like, as well as how much work and experience u have to back urself up with (so like, someone with a lot of examples and ppl to vouch for them is much more likely to get comms than someone who doesnt have much going on in those areas). this also plays into pricing which also sucks but its the reality of the situation. if your demand is low and you dont get a lot of orders at all, then you cant expect people to pay a lot for your work even if its worth it. im only able to charge as much as i do bc ive been doing it for so long that i have ppl to vouch for me, a ton of examples to show, and enough of a demand that ppl will still pay that much to get something from me! which is good bc its my only source of income lol
so i guess if u wanna start taking comms u have to do a buncha stuff, i'll try to summarize what i can think of in a list:
set up an easy way for people to see your prices and contact you! i personally use a carrd for my prices and allow dm's or emails, but i also have a ko-fi with commission slots available for ppl who are too nervous to message me directly
figure out how u wanna receive payment! afaik paypal is the most popular way and i prefer this bc i like to send invoices, but i also use cashapp and ko-fi to accept payments
figure out what you want to offer! its good to have a few options imo but u dont wanna overdo it bc then ppl get decision paralysis from getting overwhelmed at how much there is to choose from lol. do stuff that you enjoy doing too bc if u offer smth u dont have fun doing then its gonna be super hard and grueling to work on those orders
figure out your pricing! a good way to do this that ive found is to set a price to start out with and use it to test the waters. if you dont get a lot of bites then u probably need to lower the prices from there, but if u get too many then u should be able to increase the prices! once again tho ur prices will depend on the demand for your work as well as how many ppl see that ur available and how much evidence u have to back ur work up with (so like, examples of it as well as ppl who can vouch for u)
learn to have good customer service!! this is rly important for me. i try rly hard to be approachable and easy to work with because that encourages a good relationship with my commissioners so theyre more inclined to come back and also recommend me to their friends ^^ plus it just makes sense that u should be nice to ur commissioners lol. idk
^ irt this also, while u should try and be patient and kind to ur commissioners, please also know when to set boundaries! have a rules/terms of service available that lets people know stuff like what the commission process looks like, possible turnaround time, how to send payment and place orders, how you go about cancelled commissions and refunds, and stuff you will or won't do for a commission. anything you can think of to establish boundaries and guidelines for working with you
be honest and communicate with your commissioners!!!! transparency is very appreciated when getting a commission from somebody; if something comes up and u cant work on the commission or it's taking a while for some reason, let them know! ppl dont like being kept in the dark. plus, ive found that 99% of commissioners are more patient than youd expect and dont mind waiting for their commission as long as theres clear communication and updates!
pleaseeee send wips and ask for clarification on anything youre even a little unsure about. u dont want to go through an entire comm and finish it after a buncha work and have the commissioner not be happy with the outcome. that leaves a sour taste in the commissioner's mouth and also means u wasted a bunch of time and energy that could have been prevented if you just checked in and made sure they liked what you were doing along the way!
taking slots is a great way to make sure u dont overwork urself and take on too many orders! i personally use a trello to keep track of my orders but i know other ppl use like..spreadsheets n stuff too? so whatever works for u. just make sure u keep the information (order details + contact info) somewhere u can find
uhhh idk if i can think of anything else rn. but i hope this is even remotely helpful ^^ its just my own experiences and u gotta remember that your experience wont be the same as mine so be kind to urself and figure things out in a way that works for u! o7

IN THIS TOGETHER - HARRY LEWIS
communicating in a relationship isnt always as easy as it seems...
content warnings: alcohol consumptions, arguments
word count: 3500 words
It was one of those nights where you and Harry had been looking forward to the escape. The weight of work, life, and the small stressors that had been creeping in over the past week made a night out at the club seem like the perfect way to unwind.
You adjusted the straps of your dress, staring at your reflection in the mirror. It was a simple, yet stunning outfit—something you knew Harry would love. You were in the mood to let loose, to forget about everything and just have fun. You could feel the excitement building up inside you, a mixture of the night ahead and the fact that Harry would be by your side.
“Ready?” Harry called from the living room, his voice muffled as he adjusted his jacket.
You smiled at your reflection, running your fingers through your hair before grabbing your clutch and heading out to meet him. As you walked into the living room, Harry was standing there, looking impossibly good in his sleek jacket and dark jeans, his hair perfectly tousled. He grinned when he saw you.
“Damn, you look amazing,” he said, his voice low but filled with admiration.
Your heart fluttered at the compliment, and you couldn’t help but smile. “Thanks, you’re not so bad yourself.”
He offered you his arm with a playful bow. “Shall we?”
The night started with laughter and easy conversation as you and Harry made your way to the club. The lights of the city were vibrant, the air warm with anticipation, and the music pulsated through the streets, drawing you both in. The club was packed, and you could feel the energy as soon as you stepped inside, the bass vibrating under your skin.
Harry took your hand as you pushed your way through the crowd, making your way to the bar. You ordered drinks—cocktails that tasted dangerously good. The first one slid down easily, and by the second, you were starting to feel it—a buzz of warmth spreading through your limbs.
You danced, laughed, and kissed between sips of drink, the world around you becoming a blur of flashing lights and sound. The night was yours.
But somewhere along the line, things began to shift. Harry had been in a strange mood all night, a subtle tension in his posture and words. You couldn’t place it, but it was there.
It happened during a break from dancing. You were sitting at a booth with Harry and a few friends, nursing your drinks. The conversation turned to something you didn’t expect.
"Well, I just think you overreact sometimes," Harry said, his voice slightly louder than it had been. His eyes flickered to you, a mix of amusement and something else you couldn't quite read.
You blinked, your smile faltering. "What do you mean by that?"
Harry shrugged, clearly not paying attention to the slight tension in his own voice. "You know, sometimes you make a big deal out of little things. Like when I’m late or when something small happens."
You frowned. "I don’t overreact, Harry. I just expect consideration. Is that so wrong?"
His expression shifted, and suddenly there was a coolness in his gaze. “I didn’t say it was wrong, just... maybe you could lighten up a little.”
You swallowed the hurt, pushing it back down. “Lighten up? You mean stop caring about anything that matters?”
Harry’s eyes narrowed slightly. “That’s not what I meant.”
“Then what did you mean, Harry?” you shot back, your voice rising. The alcohol you had consumed earlier didn’t help, and everything seemed to feel sharper, more intense.
The table fell silent as you and Harry locked eyes.
“I just think sometimes you get too worked up over nothing. Maybe you need to relax,” he said, a hint of frustration in his tone.
You stared at him, anger bubbling up in your chest. “I’m sorry I care about things! Maybe you should start caring too.”
The words were out before you could stop them, and you instantly regretted them. But Harry didn’t take it back, instead, he huffed, looking away, clearly irritated.
“Well, maybe if you didn’t nag me every time I do something you don’t like—”
“I don’t nag you!” Your voice was sharp, and you felt the room around you spin just a little.
“Right,” he muttered, clearly not wanting to argue more in front of everyone. But it was too late. The seed of tension had been planted, and you could feel it settling between you like a brick wall.
The rest of the night passed in a haze of discomfort. You both tried to laugh it off, but the words lingered, and the argument seemed to hang in the air like smoke you couldn’t shake off.
By the time you both left the club, the night had taken a turn for the worse. You had walked in silence, Harry’s hand on your lower back but distant. The energy from earlier in the night had faded, and now all you could feel was the weight of the tension between you.
You were tired, angry, and frustrated. But you didn’t know how to fix it.
As you got inside your apartment, you both kicked off your shoes, the silence still hanging thick between you. You moved toward the kitchen to grab some water, your movements stiff, your mind racing. The argument you’d had kept replaying in your head, but you didn’t know how to bring it up again, not without getting further into the mess you had made of the night.
Harry followed you into the kitchen after a moment, his footsteps heavy behind you.
“Look,” he began, his voice quieter now, tinged with something almost apologetic, “I didn’t mean to upset you. It’s just... sometimes you get so mad at me, and I don’t know how to fix it. I hate that you're mad at me.”
You turned to face him, your expression softening at his words. “I know. I’m mad, but I don’t want to be. It’s just—sometimes, you make me feel like I’m being unreasonable when I’m not.”
Harry’s gaze softened, his posture loosening as he took a step closer to you. “I know. I’m sorry. I just... I get frustrated too. And I don't always know how to handle it.”
You could hear the honesty in his voice, and for the first time that night, you felt your anger begin to dissipate, replaced by a raw vulnerability. The distance between you wasn’t as wide as it had felt a moment ago.
But before you could respond, Harry took a breath and said something that made your heart flutter in your chest.
"I hate that you're mad at me," he repeated, stepping closer, his hand finding your cheek in the dim kitchen light. “But... you look so beautiful right now.”
Your breath caught, and for a brief moment, everything else seemed to fall away. His thumb brushed across your cheek, his gaze warm and intense. The night hadn’t gone the way either of you had hoped, but in this moment, standing there with him, everything felt... right.
You let out a quiet laugh, still a little tipsy, still frustrated, but the heat from his touch was enough to make you forget the argument for just a second. “You’re really something, you know that?”
“I know,” he said with a small smile, his thumb grazing over your lips. “But you’re the one who looks perfect right now.”
The compliment, paired with the way his fingers lingered on your skin, broke something inside you. The anger melted away completely, and instead, you stepped into him, wrapping your arms around his neck.
The kiss lingered a moment longer, but as it ended, you pulled back slightly, a strange feeling settling in your chest. The anger had faded, but it hadn’t completely disappeared. In the soft, dim light of the kitchen, with Harry’s arms still wrapped around you, a quiet sense of unease crept in.
You ran a hand through your hair, taking a step back from him, suddenly aware of how tightly your chest felt.
"Harry," you started, your voice low but clear. “We need to talk about tonight.”
His eyes widened slightly, concern flashing across his features. “I thought we were done with that. I... I don’t want to fight anymore.”
You shook your head, your gaze meeting his, but this time, there was no softness in your eyes—only something real, something unspoken that had been building for a while. “I know. But I can’t just forget it. Not this time.”
He exhaled deeply, running a hand through his hair, his jaw tight. “Look, I already said I was sorry. I’m not great at expressing myself, but I didn’t mean to hurt you. I swear.” His words were rushed, as if he were trying to push the conversation to a quick conclusion, but you could tell he was more frustrated now than apologetic.
“It’s not just about tonight,” you said quietly, your tone a little firmer than before. “It’s about... everything. The way we’ve been handling things for the past few months. The way you get distant when you’re frustrated, and I just—” You cut yourself off, not sure how to put the right words together.
Harry’s expression softened a little, but there was still a guardedness to it. “I didn’t realize things were that bad.”
“They’re not bad, Harry," you corrected, your voice softer now. “But they’re... off. There’s a distance between us that wasn’t there before. I feel like we’re not even talking half the time. Like... we’ve been brushing things under the rug.”
He stepped closer, his hands moving to your arms, but this time, there was no immediate pull toward intimacy. Instead, his grip was firm, like he was grounding himself, trying to stay present. “I don’t want that,” he said quietly. “I don’t want us to fall apart.”
A lump formed in your throat as you stared at him. It was the truth. You didn’t want it either. But what you were feeling, the uncertainty, the hurt—it was real. And ignoring it, pretending it wasn’t there, wasn’t going to help.
“Then why does it always feel like you’re just waiting for me to stop talking?” You asked, your voice catching slightly. “Like you’re just tolerating me when I get upset.”
The silence between you both stretched out, and you could see the conflict in Harry’s eyes, the way he struggled to find the right words. He wasn’t someone who was great with emotions; that was one of the reasons you fell for him in the first place. He was straightforward, but sometimes it felt like there was a wall between you and him when things got difficult.
“I don’t know how to deal with you when you’re upset,” he admitted finally, his voice quiet, almost a whisper. “It makes me feel like I’ve done something wrong, even if I haven’t. And I get frustrated when I don’t know how to fix it.”
You swallowed the bitterness rising in your throat. “You don’t always have to fix it, Harry. Sometimes I just need you to listen. And sometimes... I need you to not walk away when I’m in the middle of trying to explain myself.”
His gaze softened, but the truth hung in the air between you both like an invisible weight. The hurt had piled up over time, little by little, moments when he wasn’t fully there, moments when you felt alone even though he was standing next to you.
“I hear you,” he said, his voice barely audible. “I’m sorry. I don’t know how to make it better. But I want to.”
The sincerity in his voice hit you harder than you expected. But the reality of the situation wasn’t something you could just shake off with a few soft words.
“Harry, I need more than just ‘sorry’ and a kiss,” you said, your voice steady now, though your heart ached. “I need to know we can work through this. That we can actually talk about things and hear each other without it turning into an argument every time.”
He nodded, taking a step back to give you space, his shoulders heavy with the weight of your words. “I don’t want to lose you,” he said, his voice full of quiet vulnerability. "I just... I don’t know what you need sometimes."
You exhaled slowly, your emotions still in turmoil, but the exhaustion you’d been carrying around for weeks seemed to hit all at once. You’d been trying to keep everything together, but maybe, just maybe, you couldn’t do it alone.
“I need you to try harder,” you whispered, your eyes searching his. “I need you to meet me halfway. I need to feel like you’re really here with me—with me, not just by my side, but in it.”
The silence stretched again, and this time it wasn’t uncomfortable—it was reflective, thoughtful. Harry stood there, his eyes locked on yours, and for the first time in a long while, it felt like you were seeing each other, not as just boyfriend and girlfriend, but as two people trying to figure things out.
“I’ll try,” he said, his voice sincere, but also tinged with uncertainty. “I can’t promise I’ll be perfect. But I’ll try, and I’ll listen.”
You nodded slowly, feeling a small sense of relief wash over you. It wasn’t a fix-all solution, but it was a step forward. You could work with that.
You took a breath, and then, with a quiet sigh, you crossed the small gap between you. You didn’t want to let the distance linger anymore. You reached up, cupping his face with your hands, and for a moment, just looked at him. The frustration was still there, but there was also something else—something that told you that, despite everything, the foundation was still solid.
“Then show me,” you whispered, your voice almost pleading.
Harry’s eyes flickered, something unreadable in his gaze as he stared at you. Then, slowly, he leaned down, capturing your lips in a kiss. This time, it was different—there was no pressure, no urgency. It was slow, almost hesitant, as if both of you were testing the waters, but it was real. It wasn’t just about reconciling, it was about acknowledging each other in a way you hadn’t done in a while.
You deepened the kiss, your arms winding around him, pulling him closer, feeling the heat of him against you. It wasn’t the kind of kiss you’d imagined after a night out, after a fight, but it was raw. It was real. It was a kiss that carried all the unspoken things you both needed to address—tension, regret, frustration, but also care, understanding, and a quiet promise that neither of you was going anywhere.
Harry’s hands found your waist, pulling you flush against him, the kiss turning more passionate, a release of all the things that had been left unsaid. But then, as quickly as it had started, the kiss broke, and you both stood there, forehead to forehead, breathing heavily.
“I don’t want to fight anymore,” he murmured against your skin. “But... this doesn’t just fix it, does it?”
You shook your head, your hands sliding down his chest, the weight of the night still lingering between you. “No. It doesn’t. But it’s a start.”
And for once, after everything—the argument, the distance, the uncertainty—you felt like you were both finally on the same page. It wasn’t perfect. It wasn’t an instant fix. But it was real.
“I’ll try,” Harry said, voice steady now, as he kissed your forehead, his lips lingering a moment longer. “For us.”
You closed your eyes, savoring the moment. Something about the way he held you now—calm, sure—made everything feel different. More intimate. More like it had been in the beginning, before the arguments, before the distance.
“We’ll get through this,” you whispered, the words soft, but there was a quiet weight behind them. “We have to.”
His lips brushed against your hair as he pulled you closer, his hands slipping lower to rest at the curve of your hips. A slow, deliberate motion, like he was trying to show you, without saying anything at all, just how much he needed this. Needed you. And for a brief moment, everything felt as if it was right again—like the pieces were falling back into place, even without you fully knowing how to fix everything yet. He let go of your waist and placed your hand in his, leading you to your shared room.
The air between you shifted, heavier, but not in a way that scared you. You felt the pulse of something beneath the surface, something more than words, more than just the simple weight of an apology. And even though it wasn’t said, you knew.
“I’m not going anywhere,” he murmured, his voice barely more than a breath against your ear.
Neither were you.

Can I get some Human anatomy tips ? I'd Google it but I like hearing from fellow cartoony artists. If you have no tips or anything u can just ignore me :)
All you gotta do to achieve good humans with accurate anatomy in your art is to only draw Canadians in the winter
Tumblr media
Jokes aside, honestly just practice. There’s no quick and easy trick to do good anatomy, you have to put in the time. Study references, do billions of figure drawings, look at skeletons, bone structures, muscle and fat formations etc.
Dont just practice drawing people standing in the pick your character/sims stance. Draw ‘em walking, playing an instrument, playing a sport, (yoga is a good one for more complex pose practice).
Bear in mind this is coming from an art major, so I probably have snobbish opinions about the « right » way to draw lmao.
And if all else fails, just draw Canadians in winter.

1️⃣ buying the lives was probably the best worst thing i could have ever done to myself lmao. by the time i’d realised you could buy them, only the 2nd&3rd lives were out on dvd (they’re bundled together on one set), and though it wasn’t the first hypmic purchase i made, it kicked off the lives obsession lol. the 2nd live in particular blew my mind lol it was the first time most of the cast were on stage for hypmic and i’ll never forget the happy surprise on kijima-san’s face when the crowd screamed along to his call and response parts in drb lol. on top of that, kimura beatboxed live on stage confirming it really was ichiro beatboxing, shiraimu and nozu in lieu of souma-san’s absence gave it their all singing his parts and nozu dropped the sickest freestyle, and the samajuto cigarette kiss was born and so thoroughly rewired everyone’s brains, it just became part of samatoki’s character lmao
2️⃣ this list very easily can be just about the lives lol but i also loved getting to watch them live lol. forever and always 🖕🖕corona but getting to sidestep around abema’s booboo dookie region locks to watch the 5th live set off a precedence for needing to live watch them lmao. it’s probably the snowball that kicked off the avalanche that convinced me to try to go to japan for the first time in ten years, give or take, and bat’s 8th live day two was their most special live yet lmao
3️⃣ ITS NOT A LIVE ITS A STREAM LOL but the moment the kuukou brainrot roundhouse kicked me in the face was watching kuukou’s spirit possess hayama-san in real time lol i would have saved myself from so much heartbreak if i had stayed a matenhoe but nooooooo kuukou had to manifest in his seiyuu and i haaaaaad to watch it happen live and now i’m kuukou’s btch 🙄
4️⃣ wanna know how i became a matenrou stan lol???? jakurai’s voice introducing matenrou to the world in drb and hifumi flexing the love his women give to him makes him filthy rich lmao

5️⃣ i’ve felt a lot of frustration whilst mucking about in hypmic land, but i don’t think i have ever experienced as frustrating emotional rollercoaster ride more than the one hypstage has taken me on lmao!!!!! hypmic sneakily changing their description of the franchise from ‘voice project’ to ‘multimedia project’ when it was announced, okay actually showing a fantastic story despite hypmic’s ‘lack’ of one back in the day, nagosaka getting introduced and giving us simultaneously the best and ‘worst’ depiction of kuukou, only exclude them in the following tracks lmaooo, creating a really cool concept for mixing division pairs with an oridivi only for it to get cancelled like genuinely 🖕🖕covid but rolling up with the greatest comeback in the form of the rep lives where in the middle of the run we were given the best kuukou performance yet, shortly followed by the announcement that everyone was graduating!!!!!!!! but bop 2023 was magical; a fantastic send off to a legendary cast and closure to the pinnacle of stage production and hypmic storytelli— the stage was rebooted six months later in an absolute betrayal that was quite literally assuaged my love for hypmic, hatred for nelke and getting REAL WOMEN on stage lmao
6️⃣ and so like lemme circle back around to bat’s 8th live lmao. do you know how crazy that time was lol???? bat stans threw together a really sick flower display at a local flower shop, crowdfunded to make the lights display in this popular mall in nagoya shine purple for them, bars dedicating drinks for bat and welcoming live goers for an after party drink, day two of the live fell on bat’s 3rd anniversary and a few days prior they dropped the bright and dark mv for hypstage and the hella awesome banquet mv that bat stans ripped to shreds analysing jp bat fans my BELOVED lmao november is truly a bat month lol but anyway the 8th live was a peak time and i miss it daily!!!!!!!!
7️⃣ instead of being really gross and sappy about kuukou or the piece of merch that got me into hypmic lol shoutout to the music like actually lol. dba locked me in the moment i listened to it and i think very fondly of those days going thru the youtube for more lol. gave me a refreshed appreciation for music, esp jp music, got me to listen to more music instead of the couple hundred or so songs i’ve been listening to since i was in middle school LOL. so thanks hypmic, for giving me peak dissociation songs (like tigridia), the hypest shit that had me yelling (like moonlight shadow) and songs that had my heart racing at 3 in the morning and thoroughly unable to sleep lol (can you believe kaigen exists in this world and they let that shit drop during bat vs mtr 6th live and bc the bat seiyuu’s stage presence is just top tier they blew it out of the park frame one and she says the brainrot didn’t truly settle until live watching hayama-san get possessed but the damage was truly done listening to that calced cacophony of noise and in the ensuing silence as hayama-san’s ‘kaigen’ echoed throughout the studio OH IM GOING TO BE SICK—)

Interesting. Don’t necessarily think I’m autistic but I have more going on than just ADHD and I’m not sure what that is.
#I’m not even sure if the ADHD is actually ADHD either or if it’s just technology addiction#Gonna get a REAL neuropsych evaluation at some point out of sheer curiosity as to what the fuck is wrong with me#I relate to a lot of autistic things and I relate to a lot of ADHD things; but I don’t entirely relate to the majority of either population#and I don’t relate to people with both enough to think I have both#I’ve begun treating myself as if I am autistic just for Kicks and using things that help them and it’s helping in some ways#but I know it’s probably not autism because even though I struggle socially; it’s not because of the same reasons#I understand social cues; I was only accidentally perceived as rude as a kid (and most kids are kind of blunt)#(Mostly a moderate amount of “Stop correcting me! It’s disrespectful!” from my parents)#And nowadays because of how much psychology and acting I study; I can perceive shrimp social cues#And I’m purposefully doing all the right things but it still feels like I fail social interactions because of my lack of assertiveness#which I KNOW come from being raised in a cult#so perhaps my odd social behavior is from CPTSD from being raised in a puritan doomsday cult as an only child#Because I was NOT introverted or sensitive to others as a child#I did not have routines as a child and the ones I did have were for fun and did not distress me if I strayed from them#But now I need structure as an adult because I don’t know what else to do with myself if I have nowhere to be#But at the same time everyone feels worse when they have no routine or expectations#And is it actually inattentive ADHD or severe derealization and an itch to do as many things as possible#because I spent my childhood being raised in a boring doomsday cult by disabled older parents who couldn’t physically do much?#(And I don’t fault my parents for being disabled but I do fault them for the whole doomsday cult thing)#So I spent my whole childhood doing mentally tedious things when really I’m more wired for physically spontaneous things#Because I was not allowed to walk around the neighborhood alone until I was sixteen#And I couldn’t hang out with friends I wanted to hang out with because they were bad association#So of course I got really good at drawing even though I don’t even like drawing that much#Of course I got really good at writing even though I don’t like writing that much#Now that I don’t need to escape from anything I find I actually hate drawing and writing because it’s such a chore#they make my heart rate accelerate in a way I don’t like to feel#(I hate writing less than drawing)
