diluc ragnvindr and the secret spouse
note from kin: i was running around dawn winery looking for any chests i might have missed when this idea suddenly popped into my head. honestly i was tempted to do this similarly to the obey me solomon piece i did a while back and give diluc a husband but then i figured i should probably keep it gender neutral for both the girls and the gays
this is super short but iâve had writerâs block for AGES so at least i got something out! i hope this isnât so awful it burns your eyes out :,) i tried my best okay
fandom: genshin impact
character(s): gn!reader, diluc, aether, paimon
pairing(s): diluc/reader
warning(s): none
genre: fluff!!
You wake to the distant buzz of household conversation and a distinct absence of the usual presence beside you. Slightly disoriented, you sit up, rubbing at your eyes as the morning light peeking around the edge of your heavy velvet curtains casts the creases of the sheets around you into sharp definition.
A still-steaming mug sits on the bedside table, indicating that it hasnât been long since your dear husband got up and made you your usual morning cup of tea. Thereâs a little red flower sitting on the saucer - a Windwheel Aster, which, if the flower language the two of you have developed over time still stands true, means that heâs still at home. Heâd have left a Snapdragon if he was going out, a Calla Lily if heâd be gone for the day, or a Cecilia if heâd be away for an extended period of time. Of course, he tells you these things in person when he gets the chance, but, well - duty calls, and duty certainly doesnât wait for a sensible wake-up time.
You throw your arms up and stretch, limbs trembling slightly as all the knots and cramps that have built up throughout the night finally straighten out. Windwheel Asters usually herald a good day in your household - though with Diluc, they can become Snapdragons and then Calla Lilies in the blink of an eye - and youâre looking forward to spending some time with your husband. Itâs been a busy week for the both of you, what with an unexpected increase in the number of Abyss Order attacks cropping up around Mondstadt as well as several sudden unexplained deaths of hunters from Springfield, and youâd really like to have twenty four hours to just relax.
Dilucâs usual coat is still draped over the chair beside the desk, so, after a momentâs thought, you pull it on over your nightclothes. You have the weekend off, anyway - all your pending cases have been essentially solved and are ready to go - so you donât see any need for donning your usual detective garb, though you do feel tempted to put on your trademark scarf to ward off the morning chill.
You take a few minutes to make the bed and open the curtains before you sit down in the armchair by the window to enjoy your tea. You can see several of the usual workers milling about between the grapevines, as well as what looks like a carrier balloon being docked just by the road. Thatâs new - deliveries to Dawn Winery usually come by carriage, but then again, the fact that the balloon also appears to be smoking extensively and is being accompanied by a very dishevelled-looking man who looks close to tears indicates that this probably isnât a delivery,
On further inspection, you realise that your husband is standing nearby the smoking balloon, conversing with a young man with long golden hair tied back in a braid that youâre not particularly familiar with. Youâre sure you recognise him from somewhere, though - in the same way that you might recognise the general composition of a painting youâve seen in passing.
You donât have time to continue contemplating the boyâs identity, though, because next thing you know, Diluc is leading him inside. You drain the remainder of your tea to the dregs with one gulp and pull yourself to your feet, resolving to go down to greet the two.
While you donât bother with changing into something more formal, you do take a moment to wash your face and freshen up your breath with some of the mint-water Diluc keeps in the bathroom. Youâre not fussed about keeping up a ârespectableâ image, but you do at least want to be presentable.
Diluc is sitting with his back to you when you slip into the front room, still dressed in just your nightclothes and his overcoat, now with your feet tucked into a comfortable pair of slippers as well. The boy heâd invited in is the first to notice you, looking up from the map in his hands and face steeling slightly as he registers your presence.
An odd little fairy of some kind is bobbing about behind him, chewing on what looks like a large slice of cake. Her eyes widen to the size of saucers as she spots you, exclaiming so loudly that she sprays crumbs all over her unsuspecting golden-haired companion.
âWhoâs this?!â she shrieks, alarmed in an almost comically exaggerated way. Her shock sends her even higher into the air, and she threatens to hit the ceiling head-on. âY-you donât look like a maid!â
You raise an eyebrow, mildly amused. âThat would be because Iâm not a maid.â
Diluc finally turns around, eyes lighting up slightly when he sees your choice of attire. A small smile curls at the corners of his lips as he moves to the side, leaving enough room on his seat for you to settle down beside him.
His young friendâs eyes dart between the two of you rapidly as Diluc continues droning on about something to do with transport balloons and the influx of monster activity in the area without a word as to your sudden appearance. Heâs certainly quick-witted, youâll give him that - he seems to deduce your relationship almost immediately.
Still, he asks about it in a polite and roundabout way - bless the boy. You can imagine that heâs a little afraid of making assumptions, especially about a man like Diluc.
âIs that your coat, Master Diluc?â
Diluc pauses in the middle of his explanation, eyebrows lifting slightly. You donât know why he seems so surprised by the boyâs question - after all, the impression of the prideful Darknight Hero he has probably doesnât incline him to think of him as a relationship-y sort of man.
â...yes.â He says finally. You donât miss the way he steals a glance at you through the messy fringe of his red hair.
âWhy so surprised?â You chime in, smiling at the boy as he straightens up slightly at the sound of your voice. âSurely youâve deduced our relation already?â
He looks thoughtful for a moment. âAre you two⌠partners?â
You laugh. âWell, you could certainly put it like that.â
âYouâre so clueless, Aether!â complains the boyâs fairy companion. âTheyâre obviously dating or something!â
Aether shoots her an unimpressed look. âThatâs what I meant, Paimon.â
âYour nameâs Aether, then?â You note. He nods. âGood name, Aether. You seem like a smart boy.â
âHey!â The fairy glares at you, but it doesnât really have much effect when sheâs got the face of a baby lamb and crumbs still decorating her lower face to boot. âDonât forget about Paimon!â
âPaimonâs a lovely name too,â You comply with a smile. âVery trustworthy.â
She looks appeased by the compliment, crossing her arms with a smug grin aimed at her taller companion. âSee? Paimonâs trustworthy.â
âI heard them, Paimon,â sighs Aether, wearing the kind of expression that tells you he has to put up with this sort of thing a lot.
âWhat are you doing up so early?â Diluc asks you, and you start slightly at his sudden question. âNormally you sleep til noon on Sundays.â
You shrug and give his thigh a firm pat, taking great enjoyment in the way his ears flame up slightly at the gesture. âGuess I just missed your lovely face.â
The red of his ears darkens. â...youâre ridiculous.â
âYouâre cute,â you counter with a smile, leaning forward to kiss the tip of his nose. He chuckles in spite of himself, the corners of his eyes crinkling in a smile that he rarely lets anyone but you see.
âYouâre both gross,â Paimon decides with a pout, and the two of you suddenly remember the presence of the two other people in the room. Aether is pointedly staring at a painting on the wall, but at Paimonâs words, he hurriedly turns back.
âNo, no, itâs fine,â You laugh, waving off Aetherâs apologies for his fairy friendâs comment. âThe maids often say the same thing.â
âThe maids wouldnât say such things if you didnât insist on being so affectionate everywhere,â Diluc comments, though the smile still tugging at his lips tells you that he definitely doesnât consider that a bad thing. âIf you donât want them to talk, perhaps you should take it down a notch or two.â
âWho said I didnât want them to talk?â You counter, inching closer to him again. You'll refrain from kissing him right in front of Aether and Paimon, but that doesnât mean you canât tease him a little. âBesides, youâre one to talk. Youâre the one always hanging off my shoulders whenever you get the chance.â
Diluc, however, doesnât seem to have the same qualms as you about abstaining from affection in front of guests. His smile widening almost playfully, he gently lifts a hand to your chin. âOh? Are you complaining?â
âWho said that?â is your response, and you lean in and kiss him.
It isnât until the two of you pull away that you realise that Paimon has started making gagging noises as Aether frantically tries to shush her, all the while determinedly refusing to look in your direction. You almost feel bad for the kid - he clearly isnât the best with affectionate couples.
âSorry, sorry,â You say airily, moving away from Diluc, though you keep a hand resting on his knee.
âIs this what all married couples are like?â Paimon says, still wrinkling her nose in disgust. âIf so, Paimon doesnât want to get married, ever!â
Aether, still avoiding direct eye contact with both you and your husband, mutters an exasperated, âBold of you to assume anyone would want to marry you.â
She immediately kicks him in the head, nearly knocking the poor guy right off the sofa. âPaimon heard that!â
âWhat a rowdy pair,â You comment cheerfully as Aether retaliates by flicking Paimon hard in the head, sending her spiralling halfway across the room with an indignant yelp. âYou really do make strange friends, Diluc.â
He makes an odd chuffing sound in response to your words. âThey arenât any stranger than you.â
You shake your head. âYou still married this strange detective, didnât you?â
âI suppose I did,â He smiles softly again, setting his right hand over the one you have on his knee. âI wonder if I made the right decision?â
You give his knee a reproachful pinch and he gives short, sharp laugh in response - something that you donât hear nearly enough from him. âOf course you did!â
You move to jab him in the sides, knowing exactly where all of his sensitive spots are, but he stops you quickly, seizing both your hands in his and firmly refusing to let go. You struggle for about a second before giving up and slumping against him with a dramatic huff.
âYouâre too strong,â You complain, though your affectionate nuzzle into the side of his neck directly contradicts your pseudo-annoyed words. âI donât like it.â
Diluc chuckles, knowing full well that you love the fact that he can lift entire tables without breaking a sweat. âWhatever you say, darling.â
The look that you give him as you raise your head nearly knocks all of the breath out of him. The adoring grin on your face doesnât relent as you lift a hand and brush his cheek, your touch feather-light and sending shivers down his spine.
He finds himself leaning in again, overwhelmed by your presence. You smile knowingly and reach up to meet him - only to be interrupted with a start.
Paimon complains, half-disgusted and half-resigned, âTheyâre doing it again!â

One thing that pisses me off not just about the miraculous fandom but modern fandoms is fans inability to consume long overarching stories.
Like so many people are complaining about how long the reveal is taking or why haven't certain characters outgrown this trait yet or why is this character arc botched or abandoned. Like guys we just got the confirmation this show will be 7 seasons long PLUS like 3 tv specials. We're only roughly halfway through the series.
Once the reveal happens half the tension in the show is gone! I'm not saying leave the reveal till season 7 and make us wait 9 years this isn't HIMYM but miraculous is not a fast paced story. It's a long haul story. I just wish more fans would be patient. Miraculous is in the extremely fortunate and rare position that it will have a conclusive end and not be suddenly cancelled. That was and still is a huge problem for shows and cartoons with dedicated fans but networks pull the plug for stupid ass reasons.
So miraculous fans please chill the fuck out on things not resolving right away. We still have 78+ episodes plus the tv specials. If we get the end to certain things now it'll be so boring.
I think the concept of Instant Gratification describes the issue with many modern fandoms today. I hate to sound like I'm anti-technology, but the constant stream of quick and short bursts of entertainment allowed by the information age has made people more impatient. It's not about waiting for the climax to get a deeper sense of satisfaction, it's about getting that instant gratification right this instant. It's why one-shot fanfics are all over the place, when multi-chapter stories used to be just as common and popular, if not even more so, and itâs also why people are less willing to read a fic thatâs still a work in progress. It's why people refuse to watch Youtube video essays even as they leave comments on the topic based on the title and thumbnail alone because, while they couldn't be assed to watch a 20-minute video (let alone an hour long one), they sure can spend that time calling the Youtuber names and making arguments the video actually already refutes. It's why a lot of online arguments happen only because one party read nothing but the first and maybe the last paragraph of someone's post and skipped all the explanation for their point of view (if I've ignored an counter argument for one of my posts, it was either because I missed it or because said counter argument did this. I have attention deficit issues so I do genuinely forget responses sometimes, but I'm also not writing a second essay for someone who's proven to me they won't read it).
Of course, it's only by constantly consuming only fast-paced content that you can become this impatient. People have different ideas about stories based on what stories they have encountered in the past.
Another thing that influences the Miraculous fandom in particular is that, while I love to show off exactly how much Miraculous has done to build up the overarching plotlines, Miraculous isn't really a show that's about a single story. It's easy to understand why people think it is one though: there's one main villain, we keep discovering more about the mythology, one of the main plot threads is the romantic relationship between the leads and singular episodes and plot elements tend to get payoff later. What is the purpose of a show if not to progress the story? Because the heroes aren't getting closer to defeating Gabriel or getting together, people think that the story isn't accomplishing anything.
I'll do a comparison to illustrate why these things aren't as clear-cut signs of a continuous storyline as people think. In the Spider-Man comics, you can pick any issue up and the chances are that the villain will be a part of Spider-Man's already established Rogues Gallery, who's back for more after who knows how many defeats, and those past defeats might even get referenced in callbacks to previous issues. It's also very possible that Peter and Mary Jane's relationship is the central focus with them not being together yet, having relationship problems or even having broken up (in really old issues the girl might be Gwen Stacy and short-term options have also always been available for romantic entanglements). Does this mean Spider-Man is a continuous story where the only point is that all the villains get put away for good and Peter and MJ live happily ever after? No, it doesn't. Spider-Man is designed to go on indefinitely, so there's no clear ending point. So, what is the point of Spider-Man then, if there is no Ending?
It used to be the single issue, because comic books used to have every issue be a stand-alone story about the hero and their supportive cast. These days it's more every three-to-six issues, because superhero comics are written to have short story arcs that can then be collected into trade paperbacks. A superhero series is not a single story; it's a series that functions as a story engine, meaning the series can generate several shorter stories where the hero helps fix a problem or solve a mystery.
In the superhero genre a villain will never get killed off or removed from stories permanently as long as the writers think they can still come up with stories to tell about them. The hero's romantic life will never be completely smooth sailing unless the writer is using other things to ramp up the stakes. Everything always allows for there to be another adventure.
I think the huge success of Avatar: the Last Airbender made people think that a series that is a single story is always superior to a series with multiple shorter plots. When I was liveblogging Sailor Moon, a viewer offered to give me a list of all the non-filler episodes because they genuinely thought I'd feel like I was wasting time on the show otherwise. This attitude is simply not based on fact. It's not fair to compare Miraculous Ladybug to Avatar, because they're both setting up to do completely different things. Miraculous Ladybug is trying to become a brand, like Batman or Spider-Man. It is part of the "Zag Heroes" lineup, a series of French-created superhero franchises to compete in the America-centric superhero market. This challenge is good for the genre, because Marvel and DC have started resembling each other more and more as these companies stew in their old ideas and copy everything that worked for the other one. The superhero genre needs new blood.
Also, Avatar: the Last Airbender first became popular by doing episodic plots for almost the entirety of the first season because it's actually not a wise choice to expect the audience to be willing to commit to a story that'll only give payoff later when working with an untested IP. Very often shows with longer story arcs start with the episodic format to hook people first, and sometimes the more linear plot is introduced specifically because the audience for the show is now expected to be both dedicated enough and older and capable of keeping up. Because, here's the thing: you can't expect little kids to remember every episode or even every character you've introduced in your show. I'm not sure if people are ready to hear that but I'm throwing it out there anyway. Kids are not dumb, they can understand more complex storylines, but many kids are still training their memory, so they might not remember the details of complex storylines that go on for too long.
This is why the news that Miraculous Ladybug's fourth season was going to have a recommended viewing order originally had me concerned. Miraculous is being branded for kids. The plot requiring too much skill in memorizing story details will make it less accessible to kids and might put those two additional seasons at risk. However, it seems that the "constantly changing status quo" concept of Truth, Lies and Gang of Secrets was a fluke and the evolution of the show is more subtle, so they might not be cutting the amount of episodes for those final seasons because the show is getting too complicated for kids to follow all the important details.
Regardless, Miraculous Ladybug being an adventure cartoon TV show instead of a comic book or a more cheaper-to-produce TV drama does mean that Miraculous Ladybug isnât expected to go on for decades like a superhero comic or a soap opera. Because of this, it can have evolution and changes and even a planned ending. The show is expected to end at some point, even by the people making money off of it, mostly because making a cartoon like this indefinitely costs a lot of money, and kidsâ adventure shows tend to see a decrease in returns if they go on for too long.

106 degrees
Summary:
Hereâs a fun science fact: Birds consistently run at a higher temperature than humans do. It tends to range between 99 degrees fahrenheit up to 112 degrees. Hawksâ own body temperature tends to self-regulate around 106 degrees.
This is important when you get caught in an autumn rainstorm with a villian you donât really trust.
Also known as 5 times Hawks falls asleep on Dabi
Prompt: For something fluffier, how about Hawks can't stop falling asleep on Dabi because of how hot he runs. Dabi constantly has an arm full of bird and has no clue what to do
Bonus if they still didnât trust each other the first time it happened

Hereâs a fun science fact: Birds consistently run at a higher temperature than humans do. It tends to range between 99 degrees Fahrenheit up to 112 degrees. Hawksâ own body temperature tends to self-regulate around 106 degrees.
Itâs something he and Rumi discuss often, if only because Rumi liked to snuggle up to him and comments on it constantly. She has no room to talk since she also runs at a higher temperature. Granted, itâs not much higher than your usual human baseline. She runs about a hundred or a hundred and one, depending on the season.
Needless to say, Hawks is a very popular patrol partner in the winter. Add in his feathers (which are amazing insulation, despite not being meant for it) and the large fluffy jacket heâs never without, and itâs not surprising that heâs almost never alone in the cooler weather, even if most of his companions canât keep up with him once he gets going.
Neither his feathers nor his jacket are doing him any good right now, as soaked through as they are. His day had gone from bad (a long day topped off with a meeting Dabi âforgotâ to tell him about) to worse (an incoming cold front) to absolutely terrible (a storm that was preceding the cold front, resulting in rain, sleet, snow, or all three since this was Japan after all).
As soon as the sky opened up, Hawks insisted they take shelter. Heâd herded Dabi towards the closest abandoned warehouse. He ignored the expression Dabi sported as he broke in. He didnât care what the villain thought or how entertained he was by the action. He was a practical man and it was abandoned. Besides, if he didnât get out of the wind and rain, he was at serious risk of going into torpor. The gear he was wearing today wasnât meant for repelling water and it was about as much use as an icepack in winter.
There were a list of things he didnât want to happen around Dabi, and going into torpor was fairly high up on that list, alongside bullet points such as âgetting drunkâ, âgetting highâ and ârunning into another heroâ. The best Hawks could expect from Dabi was for the villain to light his feathers on fire. At worst, he figured Dabi wouldnât be the only burnt nugget around after he was finished with Hawks.
âHey birdie, Iâm not opposed to a show but take me out for dinner first.â Dabi said, watching as Hawks shrugged out of his coat and feathers in one fluid movement, catching his jacket before it fell off completely. He let his feathers fall to the ground with a disgusting splat. Laundering those would be less of a hassle than laundering his jacket. He draped his jacket over a nearby box in the vain hope that it might dry a little. It probably wouldnât, but who knows. Maybe if he annoys Dabi enough, the fire-quirk user might raise the temperature in the warehouse by a few degrees.
âHa. Ha. Not everyone has a fire quirk, asshole.â Hawks replied, giving what remained of his wings a shake to get as much of the water out. A quick look around the warehouse revealed it wasnât as secure as he had thought, with great gaping holes in several of the walls. He shivered as the wind blew through them and started looking for anywhere that would provide a barrier between himself and the wind. He watched enviously for a moment as Dabi rolled his shoulders and began steaming slightly, burning the moisture out of his clothes and coat.
He spotted a pile of boxes, with several piled up on three sides to make a small nook and started to walk towards it.
âSo, what do you have for me?â He asked, sitting down and scooting until he hit the back âwallâ of boxes.
Dabi shrugged. âNothing. Just wanted to see if youâd come.â He replied.
Hawks stared at him, not quite believing what he just heard. Dabiâs growing grin cemented the fact that he had not, in fact, misheard.
âYouâre an asshole. You seriously just called me out here on a whim? Iâve got better things to do, Dabi.â
âWhat, rescue people? In this weather? I think not.â Dabi said, slinking towards Hawks. Instead of taking a seat on the box directly in front of him, Dabi decided that the best place to sit was practically in Hawksâ lap. He shoved the hero over and leaned against one of the boxes that made up a makeshift wall and smiled at Hawks, daring him to do anything about it.
âDick. So what now? Are you going to suggest we play Shiritori or I-Spy to pass the time? Since you invited me out for a playdate, we might as well.â
âThat is not what I did.â
âYou did it on a whim. It sounds like either a playdate or you miiiiiiiiiissed meeee.â Hawks said in a sing-song tone, delighting in the way it made Dabiâs face scrunch up in irritation.
âWe could play âhow many burnt feathers does it take to get to the crispy chicken centerâ.â Dabi held up a palm, a blue flame flickering to life in the center of it. Hawks looked between the flame and Dabiâs face and, very pointedly, brought his hands up to warm them.
âThanks. My fingers were getting cold.â
Dabi huffed and closed his fist, snuffing the fire out.
--------------------------
When the bird actually showed up in the storm, Dabi wasnât sure what he was expecting. He certainly wasnât expecting the hero to stick around, let alone break into a building. Especially not the way he had. In the split second between Hawks looking at the door and breaking in, heâd assumed the hero would use a feather to lock-pick it. It seemed like something the hero would do- sufficiently flashy enough and sounded like the sort of party trick the pigeon would learn. Instead, Hawks had pulled out one of his larger feathers, slid it into the bend of the padlock and twisted it, using the feather like a lever and cracking the lock off with brute strength.
He wouldnât say it intrigued him, but it was damn close. There were still things about the bird he didnât know and he was still half-convinced the hero was a spy, but shit like that definitely made him question that assumption.
The hero also annoyed the ever-loving hell out of him. More than Toga or Twice did, so he was hoping the bird would slip up and heâd have an excuse to roast the number two hero.
The storm outside had rolled in completely, throwing the warehouse into almost complete darkness. He and Hawks had stopped sniping at each other almost half an hour ago, the warehouse filled with the sound of screaming winds and hammering rain. He was pretty sure this was a new record for Hawks. If he gave a shit, heâd say something about being impressed. He didnât give a shit and he was more interested in figuring out what the fuck was making that weird noise. It kept disturbing the quiet of the warehouse; it was almost a peeping squeak, like a chain swinging in the wind, but far more organic.
He lit up one of his palms, peering out into the darkness to see if he could spot the noise. All it did was make the shadows worse and throw the hero into an eerie light. The hero was sitting with his eyes closed, and as Dabi watched, about every third exhale the bird would shiver slightly and let out that peeping noise.
Was that⌠Hawksâ version of a snore?
Pretty ballsy of the hero to fall asleep next to him. Ballsy and stupid as hell. Slowly, he brought his hand closer to the bird, intent on setting at least one wing on fire.
Gold eyes blinked open, unfocused. Dabi froze, waiting for the bird to react.
Hawks did, but not in a way Dabi had been expecting.
âFucking hell-â Dabi spat as Hawks leaned against him.
The bird was freezing.
It was like getting hit by a wet washcloth that had been sitting in a freezer, and within moments he could feel the water seeping through his clothes. The bird was freezing and soaking wet.
Then the bird shivered again, almost cuddling into Dabiâs arms. Hawksâ eyes had closed again and it left Dabi with an armful of bird and no good idea how to handle this or how to feel about it.
Logically, Hawks was probably seeking out the warmth, and hell, maybe he was like Spinner. Spinner hated the cold and was about as tolerant of it as Dabi was of the heat. Guess that might explain the sleepy-thing. Spinner mentioned something about torpor once. Dabi hadnât been listening because Spinner was goddamn annoying.
He brought his legs up, shifting Hawks so that he was sitting sideways and half on Dabiâs lap. One of his hands came up and, against his better judgement, settled on the remaining plumage Hawks had left on his wings. They looked comically small like this, and he had been wondering about how they felt.
Right now, they felt wet and cold.
He tsked and slowly heated his hand up, combing his hand through the feathers.
Slowly, they went from feeling like wet paper to delightfully smooth and soft.
---------------------------
Normally, Hawks enjoyed waking up. He had a nice bed and decadent sheets. He usually woke with the sun, and despite having an early shift, that still usually left him with an hour he could spend just basking in the delight of a nice bed. If he left the shades open, he could do so in a puddle of sunlight.
His bed didnât feel right this morning. Too lumpy and for a moment he tried to recall if he had brought anyone home the night before. There was a hand combing through his hair, so there was a very distinct possibility that he had left the warehouse the night before and-
His eyes flew open at the thought.
He didnât remember leaving the warehouse and-
âChill your tits, bird brain. Just me.â Dabi said, giving a light tug on a lock of Hawksâ hair. He ignored the pleasant way it sent shivers down his spine.
âWhat the fuck.â
âYeah. That was my thought too. Lemme guess- you go into torpor?â Dabi asked.
âDo I even need to answer that right now?â Hawksâ shoulders slumped and he groaned.
Fantastic. He did exactly the thing he hadnât wanted to do. Dabi let out a soft huff, almost a laugh but not quite. Hawks leaned back, feeling an arm against his back and keeping him from going too far. Dabi didnât look peeved, and that raised his hackles. His eye narrowed as he tried to figure out what happened.
âWhat?â
âYou did something.â Hawks stated, running through a checklist in his mind. He didnât feel any burns. Nothing smelled like ash. The only real change from before he went into torpor was his hair and wings were fully dry and his clothes felt, well, not dry but not sopping wet anymore.
Oh.
OH.
Dabi noticed the grin on Hawksâ face, and started spluttering. âYou were just-â
âYou preened meeee.â Hawks sang, laughing at the affronted expression on Dabiâs face.
âI did not. You were dripping everywhere.â
âUh-huh. And that included drying my wings⌠why?â
â....Because they were there. So shoot me if I wanted to know if you had greasy bird feathers.â
âNope. That the same reason you decided to sweetly comb through my hair? I mean, really Dabi. If you wanted to play with my hair and wings that much, you could have at least gotten me dinner first.â Hawks teased, stifling a laugh as Dabiâs expression went from affronted to a grouchy embarrassment, before then actually lifting Hawks up and dumping him on the ground.
One- Damn. Hawksâ wasnât heavy but he was mostly muscle so. Damn.
Two- He was just laughing harder now. To think that Dabi got shy about being caught playing with hair. He got to his feet, trying to brush the dust from his pants before giving it up as a lost cause.
âWell Hotstuff, thanks for the preen and playing heating pad. Guess we did get to know each other a little better tonight.â
Dabi flipped him off, sliding off the crates and making his way towards the door they came in through.
âDabi?â Hawks called out. To his surprise, Dabi stopped, turning to look at him, dubiously waiting for the rest of his question. âFor the next meeting, can I play with your hair?â
A moment later he was scrambling away from the fireball Dabi sent his way, despite knowing that it wasnât a true attack and Dabi was only trying to get him to stop talking and hide his frazzled expression. Hawks watched Dabi make a beeline out the door, wheezing on his laughter as he gathered up his jacket and feathers.
Teasing Dabi was going to be so much fun.

Duke Thomas vs the non-verbal vocabulary
Duke Week (but like a week later) of @duketectivecomics day 6: All in the Batfamily.
Summary:Â When Duke joined the family he knew he would have to learn lots of things, including survival skills and where Alfred hides the cookies. He never thought that he would need to master the unspoken language that lies under every action of the bats.
Or
Duke finds himself trying to understand his new familyâs ways of communication, until he starts doing the same.
Notes: sorry for being late! wanted to make this fic without dialogue but gave up at the first try. If u see any mistake, u can go ahead and tell me, my English is far from perfect. Well, thatâs all, thanks for reading! (I donât own any of these characters, they belong to dc comics and that stuff)
âŚ.
The sun is setting when Duke arrives at the cave after a long but quiet day, his body aching for a nap or one of Alfredâs meals, whatever comes first.Â
If it werenât for the blue light coming from the computer and the sound of typing he would have thought that the place was empty. But Duke can distinguish Bruce profile from where he stands, taking off his helmet. The older man is sitting without his cowl, his posture the one of someone who is trying not to fall asleep. The bags under his eyes a confirmation that Duke does not need.Â
âLong day in Wayne Enterprises?â He tries as an attempt at small conversation. As usual, it does not work. Bruce gives him a side glance and murmurs something to himself, not bothering to clarify what it was. Even so, he notices the man relaxing a little in his presence, which Duke counts as a win.Â
He knows that he canât fool anyone (much less the Batman) but he takes longer to put his things aside, pretending that he has to stay in the cave a little more time than necessary. When there is not any excuse left, he heads towards the exit. Bruce has not spoken or abandoned his position in front of the computer yet, an open case in front of his eyes.Â
âHave you ever thought about going on patrols during the day? You know, for a better sleep schedule.â Duke asks, fully aware of the answer and when Bruce gives him a grunt, he has to suppress a laugh.
He is too far away to listen when in a low voice, the man answers: âIt would ruin the aesthetic.â
âŚ.
Alfred, as the omnipotent force that Duke has started to think that he is, is there when someone from the family needs him. But even so, he is always surprised to find the man in the kitchen making him breakfast.Â
Duke is usually already on his senses at six in the morning, and a few minutes later he is going downstairs, more often than not passing by one of the other bats, still dressed up and yawning. When he arrives at his destination, Alfred is there with a relaxed pose, like waiting for him.Â
âMorning, Alfâ Duke says while offering his help, just for the man to deny it. It takes a few seconds to be ready but then Duke is drinking his hot chocolate with a smile on his face.Â
âDid you sleep well, Master Duke?â Alfred asks while sitting down at his side. It is a rare sight, given the fact that the man is always doing something, and Duke is secretly proud to be able to see him like that, when there are no immediate worries or tasks.Â
âAs good as one can ask for.â Duke shrugs and then adds âEight full hours tho.â
âFour more than the average in this house.â The man says, and Duke is not sure if it is the morning or the words itselves, but he laughs.Â
The silence that follows is comfortable, and neither of them has a wish to interrupt it. They keep each other company until Duke finishes his breakfast, and when he has to go, Alfred stands up offering a warm smile, before he also starts with his day.Â
âŚ.
Duke hates nightmares.Â
Yes, he fights criminals on a daily basis, he knows pretty well how to manage Two-Face or the Penguin, but nightmares are another type of monster all together. And he hates them.Â
They often start as good dreams, the kind of dreams that makes you want to stay asleep, but also the kind of ones where you do not want to realise it is not real. And that does not help Duke when they transform into madness and chaos. When the images of a happy childhood become the picture of a broken family, and the laughs coming from his parents stop fitting them.Â
But there is something that Duke hates more than nightmares: waking up from them. Waking up, alone in a bed that is not the one from his home, is just a reminder that there is nothing untrue about his dreams. That he has his parents, but that their minds had gone far away.Â
He adjusts in his bed while trying to suppress a sob when he realises that he is not alone this time. Duke should be surprised that Dick is laying on top of his mattress like it is his own, but he is not. In fact, it is more of a common occurrence around the Manor to find more than one bat sleeping in a single space (yes, that includes Bruce); but them appearing in the middle of the night to Dukeâs, well, thatâs not as common.Â
âCouldnât sleep, yours was closer, I hope you donât mindâ Dickâs eyes remain closed but he speaks in a voice that is too clear to be sleepy. Duke knows he is lying, his rooms are not even on the same floor, but decides not to comment on it.Â
âSureâ he answers, and something in the back of his mind relaxes. He might not know if Dick really wanted company or if he has some older-brother-sense that warns him when someone needs him, but he is not complaining.Â
Dukeâs nightmares wonât go, but he has a family. He is not alone. Â
âŚ.
Wayne Manor has a library big enough to entertain yourself for months, and Duke has spent several hours on its quietness. But there are days, just like this one, when he prefers to go to the public one, where the things do not seem so immaculate and he is not afraid of stepping on something.Â
As almost everything in Gotham, the public library is old, with high ceilings and large corridors that Duke is pretty sure could lead to the underground if he gets too distracted. Dirt gathers on top of the shelves with books never touched, and the light coming from the large windows gives an ethereal aura to the place.Â
Duke has been looking for something to read for the last hour, four books placed on one of the tables near his bag, but none of them caught his attention for more than a few minutes. He is already sitting down with a fifth on his hand when he notices a movement at his right. A figure that Duke recognizes appears with their own books and takes a place next to him.Â
Jason looks extremely calm when he nods towards Duke as a greeting, like he belongs in the library and its silence more than anywhere else. It is an interesting sight to contrast with his usual booming and alert self.
They stay like that a few more moments, until Duke groans tiredly when the fifth book ends up being as boring as the other four. He is ready to get up once more when he hears a soft laugh coming from Jason. As soon as Duke looks at him he realises that his brother is offering him a book from his pile, a face that might say âI dare youâ. Duke is not someone who would back out from an unspoken dare, so he takes it.Â
It is apparently an old collection of poems, the cover is worn out and some of the pages have notes in a neat handwriting that must be Jasonâs. If it werenât because he was the one who offered it, Duke would feel like he is intruding. He starts reading.Â
Duke spends the rest of the afternoon in the library, with a silent companion.Â
âŚ.
It is three in the afternoon and the cave is empty.Â
Duke has been looking at the ceiling for the last half an hour while trying to tie up the loose ends of a case that had gone cold a week ago. He got it yesterday morning when the Police Department desisted from keeping an investigation, probably remembering that they could send it to one of the bats.Â
He has the feeling that helping in cold cases happened more often in the daytime than in the night, where the Police Department (and Gordon) were already used to having the extra help, or were already resigned to it. There are a limited number of times of the Batman appearing in the middle of a crime scene before you get used to it, after all.Â
At least three other files were gathered beside him in the pile of âsolvedâ, and its results were already sent to the Police Department (and to the batcomputer record). It was the fourth case that was starting to give him a headache. A young man had been found dead in his home by heart attack, no history of any heart disease in his family. The only clue is a combination of substances that were not part of any known drug.Â
Duke hears the steps of someone coming down to the cave, and by the way they move he can bet it is Tim. He looks towards the sound and confirms his suspicions, he catches the grunt that comes from his brother as a greeting before he sits down in front of the computer. He is ready to focus again on his task when Tim speaks, on a tired yet alert voice.Â
âWhy did you upload this to the computer?â Tim is pointing at the list of substances that Duke looked for just a few minutes ago. Without result.
âA cold case.âÂ
Tim mutters something under his breath and starts typing with quick movements. The silence seems to be filled with it for the next minutes, while Duke keeps an interested eye on his file. Confusion is shown on his face when, with his powers help, he identifies something flying towards him. He catches the pencil that Tim sends his way with his right hand, and watches it intensely. Â
âYou know, if you wanted my attention you could have just said something.â Duke comments when he does not find any other reason why Tim would throw him a pencil. His brother, once more, mutters something while asking for Duke to get closer with a movement of his hand.Â
When he does it, Duke notices that three files are open on the computer: Dukeâs current case, the components of a pill that he does not identify and a new tab in which Tim seems to be working on. He also notes that some of the substances of his case appear on the other two.Â
âOkay, I am getting it, but how did youâŚ?â
âLast night patrol, some new drug in town. Apparently it is getting popular between university students that want to keep awake for finals.â Tim answers with a shrug, and before he gets to drink more of the coffee he has on the table, Duke takes it. âHey, I am helping you.â
âWell, I am returning the favor. Go to sleep, Tim.â
Tim complains about betrayal and annoying members of his family. Duke does not care, he has time to insist, his case is solved after all.Â
âŚ.
Duke likes Steph.Â
When he joined the family, she was the easiest to get along. The majority of them acted nice, but they were also pretty much disinterested, not even batting an eye towards him. It took Duke a long time to realise that sometimes the bats were just like that: silent. Steph, on the other hand, always had something to say, and for Duke that was the little bit of normalcy that he needed.Â
He might never admit it, but he suspects that the other reason they got along from the beginning was because neither of them was sure of their places in the family. Yes, for sure they belonged to it, but for completely different reasons they were at the edge of it.Â
So, already gotten used to her randomness, it was not even weird when she offered to go on a daytime patrol with him. Duke liked the company, so he accepted, and every once in a while since then he finds himself with the voice of a purple vigilante on his coms.Â
âNo, donât take the avenue. It is going to be crowded.â Duke warns when Steph informs him of an armed robbery on Gotham City Bank.Â
âCrowded? Of what?â her voice comes muffled by her mask and the white noise.Â
âOf people? And their vehicles?â Duke says in his most obvious voice, and then he realises. Without even trying to suppress the smile, he clarifies âYou know, people are outside now, going to work and stuff, it is the middle of the day.â Steph does not answer.Â
When the day is getting over they sit on a rooftop enjoying the view of a safer Gotham, even when they both know that the night will be as dangerous as always. Steph has been complaining about how impossible it is to hide in the daytime, and Duke has been trying to explain to her how that is kind of the point.Â
Duke likes Steph, and loves listening to her speak, but as any other bat, the things that she does not fully say are the one that he appreciates the most.Â
âŚ.
The sun has setted a few minutes ago and not many people are still in the Manor. Duke has been moving from doing his homework and watching the movie that is being played on the TV. Now that he thinks about it, he should turn off the thing.
He gets startled when Cass appears from the darkness itself and sits down next to him. He has been getting used to her sudden entrances since they started working together more often with the Outsiders, but he was pretty sure that she was not even in the house.Â
âHowâŚ? Werenât you on patrol?â
âChanged day with Timâ she says, without further explanation, looking at the papers in his hand and then at the movie, she keeps silent while the screen shows the image of a vast space âWhat is that?â
âHmn, thatâs Star Trek. This is my math homework.âÂ
âStar Trek?â she asks while spelling the words with her hands, then just using sign language adds âA space travel documentary?â
âNo, no. Itâs a movie, a really impressive one. Itâs about a futuristic society whereâŚâ Duke starts explaining but thinks better of it âBut not as impressive now that we have a Superman. You never watched it?â
Cass denies it with her head, and Duke starts telling her the basics while she gets comfortable by his side. She seems confused by some of the things he enthusiastically describes, but she listens nonetheless. A few minutes later they are both watching the movie, homework forgotten. At some given moment Cass nudges him.Â
âOther day, you dance. With me.â
Duke smiles, he would like that.Â
âŚ.
Silence fills his room and Duke is ready to turn off the light and call it a day when he hears the knocks on his door. Damian does not even wait for his response and opens it.Â
âThomasâ he says, and his voice sounds mildly annoyed âI am in need of your assistance.â
Duke gives him a questioning look. Damian is not dressed for patrol, and if Duke is not wrong, this has to be his free night. So saying he is surprised by the request is an understatement. But the kid does not explain, instead he turns around and goes back to the corridor. Duke gets up and follows him.
Damian is already going downstairs when Duke gets to him. It must be a weird sight, he thinks, a child all formally dressed at ten in the evening, while the teenager is in his pajamas trying to suppress a yawn. But Duke does not have time to share his thoughts when they arrive at their destination.Â
Damian opens the door to one of the many rooms of the Manor, and waits for Duke to enter. If it werenât because he is pretty sure that the kid at least estimates him, he would be worried. The only two things in the room are an easel and a stool. Damian gets closer to them, and Duke once more follows.Â
Now that he sees the easel better, he can discern a pencil drawing on a white canvas. It looks extremely similar to the outside of the Manor. Damian seems relaxed by his side but he can tell that the kid is nervous. Of what, Duke is not sure.Â
âDid you draw it? Because it looks amazing.â Damian unsurprisingly does not answer, but he looks to truly relax this time, and Duke is tempted to assure him once more, even when he knows that the kid would dismiss him. Dick older brotherâs vibes must be getting to him.Â
âIt is not finished. I still have to paint it.â Damian clarifies, then, like it hurts him like hell, adds âYour help with the lighting would be⌠appreciated.âÂ
It is not a request, more of an obligation, but Duke still acts surprised for a few seconds. He looks again at the painting, he is not sure of being able to tell how the lights actually work, but Damian still looks interested in his opinion. So he explains, he shows all the points where it can come, and how that would affect the whole picture. Duke must admit that he feels pretty dumb doing it, he might have light related powers but he has no idea how to paint, but still, he finishes his overview.Â
Damian seems to be in deep thinking for a few seconds, then he nods towards Duke and gives a glance to the door. Of course.
âYour presence is not required anymoreâ the younger one says.Â
âYeah, almost didnât noticeâ Duke murmurs while heading to the door, but thinks that he was able to catch the shadow of a smile on the kidâs face. That will have to be enough.Â
âŚ.
It was half past six in the morning and Duke was tired. No, he was exhausted.Â
Yesterday was a long day, without even counting the meta that has been trying to destroy the Gotham City Museum. Duke has been falling behind with his schoolwork, and the attack has not helped him. Besides, he did not remember about the delivery of an essay for his literature class until midnight, when he started to write it. Not being able to fall asleep before five in the morning was what Duke would put in the cons of being a vigilante. Having to wake up early on the morning was a con of being a daytime vigilante. Both of those things happening on the same day was what he would call a fucking bad day.Â
Duke is yawning while he goes downstairs, already suited up and hoping that all of Gothamâs rogues had a night as long as his and wonât be going around the city. For the first time in weeks he is considering drinking coffee instead of his usual chocolate, maybe Alfred actually knows a way of making it tastier.Â
He is arriving at the kitchen when he feels it, not because of some bat-sense, but because he hears the loud voices. He opens the door and knows it: Duke lied, the bats are not silent. They can be difficult to read, they might not be good at explaining their feelings, but silent canât be a word to describe them when they are together. They are loud and dramatic. Duke loves it, but not when he had a long night. Just like today.Â
They are all here, still suited up and with sleep deprived faces. Jasonâs helmet is on the floor near the door, and the man himself has one arm up in the air grasping a mobile phone, the other holding Dick back, who seems to be trying to get his device again. Both of them are mocking the other with high pitched voices that do not really fit them. Duke is pretty sure that they would have tackled one another if it werenât for Bruce, standing in the middle of the pair, each hand on their shoulders, but not really doing something to help any side. He has a small but genuine smile on his face.Â
Cass is suppressing a yawn while she eats pancakes, she is listening attentively to Steph, who is doing wide gestures to tell a story about an old lady that tried to convince her to date her nephew. Steph has bags under her eyes and a band-aid on her jaw that seems to be from last night, but still explains the story as it is the most interesting thing of the week. Duke makes a reminder of asking later.Â
Damian is sitting in front of Cass with a similar expression. He has Alfred (the cat) on his lap, and Duke can see that he is still wearing his suit pants under a two sizes bigger hoodie that probably belongs to Jason. His cape and domino mask are on a pile at his feet painted with a weird substance that Duke prefers not to know. He looks half annoyed and half amused.Â
Duke notices that for the first time Tim looks to be drinking an orange juice instead of a coffee, being the only one not suited nor ready to fall asleep. Tim, of all people. Behind him Alfred is making something (Duke bets that more pancakes), and seems to be the only one to spot him on the door. They exchange a smile (well, the old man gives a smile, Duke a panicked expression), before he resolves that he can get breakfast in some place in the city. Having had a long day and night means that he does not have to put up with all his family this early in the morning, he decides. Duke is going backwards when he hears Damianâs voice.
âThomas is hereâ he announces. Damn kid.Â
They all stop mid-action and look at him. Bruce clears his throat and gives a step back, probably wanting to come back to his professional persona and failing when he almost trips with his cape. That gets a snicker from all of them, except for Jason who laughs freely. Bruce, with his most poker face, pretends nothing happened. Duke is tempted to remind him that he already knows his not Batman self. Â
âYou must start your patrol on Gotham Harborâ he reports âWe got information that a new drug shipment will arrive in less than an hour, Black Mask henchmen will be there. They will not expect someone in broad daylight.âÂ
âWe found some clues leading to a recently abandoned Scarecrowâs hideout, he might attack before sunset.â Steph adds, pointing at her and Dick with her finger.Â
âPoison Ivy is trying some new substanceâ Damian warns while giving a side glance to his cape. âMight want to prove it.â
Duke looks at them with his most deadpan expression, his body is aching for a rest that he will not get. Well, there it goes his quiet day without rogues. He groans in frustration.Â
Everyone understands.Â

COSPLAY THEME PAGE : ShareMyCosplay.com
Tell us about ShareMyCosplay, what was the genesis of the ShareMyCosplay?Â
Share My Cosplay has gone through quite the journey to get to what you see today. I can still remember the day that I came up with the idea that would eventually lead to Share My Cosplay. I was eating lunch with a few friends at my day job. A friend of mine showed me a cosplay of Jessica Nigri as Pikachu, and because I worked in IT, for some reason had an idea of doing a website related to cosplay. The actual website took a while to set up, but I started off slowly, with an initial launch on social media. We launched with Tumblr and Twitter, slowly building an audience. Then eventually a little bit later adding Facebook, and eventually much later introducing Instagram into the âfamilyâ. Eventually we added the website and have been going strong since then. Weâve of course made tons of adjustments over the years, and most recently started adding content on YouTube. Itâs been a great ride so far, and hopefully it will continue.
What was your first experience with cosplay as well as the convention scene?
Like a lot of people who are into gaming and comic books, I was aware of cosplay, but didnât really know much about it. It was only after looking into the idea of starting a site that I really got to know what goes on behind the scenes. It was meeting and talking to people in the scene that made me realize what an amazing community of people are involved. That is why I have continued the site for so long. As our social media following grew, I got to know more and more of the cosplayers, and was so happy I was able to use what I had created to help them gain more exposure. Share My Cosplay exists as a place where all cosplayers can have their work properly showcased.
As for conventions. While I live in the capital city of Canada, Ottawa is a relatively small city of one million people. Conventions have only really made it big in the last 5 years or so and before that were never a really big thing. I had travelled to other cities within Canada for some conventions, but those were mainly toy based conventions, so there would just be a handful of devoted cosplayers hanging out. It wasnât until much later, when conventions started to take off, that our city got itâs own âComic-conâ. Then things exploded quickly. When our first Ottawa Comic-con launched, I was there day one, and the lineup was out of the building and wrapped around the whole building. I think it took a couple of hours to actually get into the convention floor. I could only assume it was similar to something like entering SDCC, but on a much smaller scale.
So while that has been a staple in our city for the last 10 years, Iâve also been traveling to Montreal Comic-con, which is a little bigger. Since there are maybe fewer conventions in Canada, people seem to come from great distances to show off the cosplays they had worked out. The dream has always been to try and get to SDCC, but that hasnât happened yet. Travel is so expensive from Canada.
So for the short term I had set my sights on visiting NYCC, which is a âquickâ drive from my area of Canada. However like all plans, they fell through. I had plans to go to NYCC and E3 in 2020, but of course those fell through because of what happened around the world. I miss conventions. One because they are such a great way to meet and interact with the cosplayers, and two, itâs one of the primary places we get content to share on our site and pages. So that has been lacking for us recently. Fingers crossed things will get back to normal soon.
How has cosplay changed over the years in your perspective?
Like everything you get to know, it evolves and grows over time. Being knee deep in cosplay all the time (my inbox once had 100+gb of cosplay submissions), I have certainly seen it change over the years. Obviously cosplays have become more elaborate in construction. Things like LEDs are so cheap now, I always find it amazing when people incorporate them into a costume. So the cosplay builds just get bigger and better every year. Also I find the resources on the internet have gotten better. Cosplayers are now able to find more detailed pictures of what they want to create, giving them a way better idea of what and how they will do it for a certain character.
Another thing that has changed, are the absolutely stunning Cosplay edits youâll see on social media. So why the cosplay photographers have always been an integral part of the equation (we try hard to tag them when people include their details on submissions), the level that the editing on pictures has changed over the years is dramatic. Youâll often see the time-lapsed photo creations on Social, and they are just mesmerizing to watch. People put so much time into creating these worlds to help elevate the cosplay to the next level. That has certainly changed over the years. That being said, we still love regular shots of cosplay too, the amount of photographers that specialize in cosplay has jumped a lot too.
In general, it seems cosplay has evolved from a simple hobby where you could throw something together to wear to a weekend convention, to a full time gig where people spend months on at a time for each one of their creations.
How has ShareMyCosplay changed over the years?
In my eyes SMC has evolved greatly over the years. As the editor there have been two major changes, and I think it has improved the way we do things. The first thing would be, when we first started I used to go âcollectâ the cosplay that we shared. So I had to either go find it, or reach out to people. I spent a lot of time tracking down cosplay to share, that I personally thought was cool or very creative. As you can imagine this took a lot of time. So this has changed dramatically over the past 3 -Â 5 years. Now Iâm happy to say that we are 99.9% based on submissions from users. So while there is less than 1% of content that we do go out and ask for, it is basically all based on what people send us to share. So that is why you see such a great variety of cosplay content on our pages. There is a downside to this in a way, as compared to some other pages out there that only feature certain types of cosplayers, some people enjoy that a bit more and those pages can have more of a following then we do. However we are really happy with the content we put out.Â
Then the second big change, that has certainly led to better content for our pages, is the introduction of automation. When SMC first started, I had to do everything manually. Like I would be on Twitter or my phone doing everything live, and sharing items. It took up a lot of my time, and greatly affected my personal life. At times I think I must have been crazy, as this is a free service that we provide, and I was putting hours into each day. Now of course things have changed and the Social Media aspect of SMC is way easier to manage. Facebook, Twitter and Instagram all have official tools available that allow you to schedule your posts. So you can easily take an hour or 2 and work on several days of a week at the same time, or if you were really organized, schedule the whole week. So Iâve learned to embrace this a bit more and learn the ins and outs of it. This leads to a more constant stream of content that our followers seem to enjoy. Which seems to lead to more engagement from our followers.
Whatâs the best part / worst part of running a cosplay theme page?Â
The best part has obviously been meeting & interacting with the community throughout the years. We do our best to present a positive place where everyone can share their cosplay creations. Weâve been invited to some really cool events over the years, and our team has been able to go to a lot of conventions all over the world. Itâs been a fun ride.
The worst part for me personally, is that while our team has grown and shrank over the years, I do most of the work by myself. Sharemycosplay.com is run by a single person, me. Also for the most part there is a single person doing all of the social media. So I do my best to have content up all of the time, but sometimes life gets in the way. Weâve put a few calls out for people that might want to help with content creation for the site, but sometimes itâs hard to attract people interested in helping. Right now Iâd love a few writers that could write articles that I could wrap around cosplay posts for the page. We will have to see how that turns out.
What future plans do you have for ShareMyCosplay?
Iâm always looking to expand Sharemycosplay.com with new content. During the pandemic Iâve been off my normal schedule so unfortunately updates have been a bit slow, but hoping to get back to things. With conventions off the table for now for the most part, Iâm trying to move in different directions. Iâve recently tried to put more effort into YouTube, but even that has been impacted by the Pandemic, so Iâve leaned more on gaming content. That is going to change as Iâve started a new initiative that I just launched on our page a few days ago called âCosplaySELF''. Basically we are looking to have cosplayers interview themselves, and us edit the footage into the âepisodes' ' featuring 3 cosplayers. Hopefully those will start to be live very soon. We are already into the editing phase and hope to have the first episode live soon, over on our YouTube page. Keep your eyes peeled. Hopefully, as long as people show interest, this is something we will continue to create and upload on a regular schedule.
Is there anything that wasnât covered you like to talk about?
Lastly I want to thank you for taking the time to include Share My Cosplay in this interview. It really means a lot when someone else in the community that you respect, takes a moment out of their busy life to recognize the work youâve done. There have been times in the past where I have considered possibly giving up doing SMC, but getting some recognition really helps put things in perspective and allows me to continue on. Hopefully Share My Cosplay will continue to grow over the coming years, and continue as a great tool for all cosplayers to use.

seaside - p. parker
(sci-fi, part ii)
pairing: peter parker x reader
word count: 2.2k

You didnât know why you agreed to go to the beach. You hadnât been in years, and you hadnât swam in a pool since kindergartenâlet alone the ocean.
Rubbing the sunscreen into your arms, you glanced into the floor-length mirror and tried to practice looking not-so-scared-of-the-water. You hoped that your nervousness wouldnât be too apparent, because while you were excited to hang out with Peter, you would have rather just gone to a cafĂŠ or something.
âOh yeah, also, are you free on Saturday?â Peter had asked, as the two of you were walking home one evening, after spending the entire afternoon reading together over some fruit smoothies at the shop.
âUh, I think?â You shrugged, âWhy?â
âDo you wanna go to the beach with me? I swear itâll be fun,â He said, rubbing his hands on his jeans, and looking incredibly jittery. You werenât sure why; youâd known each other for months! Surely he was comfortable enough by now?
At his suggestion, you sucked air through your teeth, hesitant at accepting. Youâd never found it important enough to tell people, but you had always feared the ocean, and the idea of going, voluntarily, so close to it, kind of freaked you out.
When Peter realised you hadnât responded and noted your expression, his face fell a bit and he quickly said, âIâm sorry, you donât have to, itâs okay if you donât want to go with me, I understand you might beâ,â
You were very quick to stop him, âNo, no, itâs not you, itâs just Iâ,â and just as you were about to decline, you sucked in some courage and changed your mind at the last second, âactually, no, itâs okay, Iâll go.â
You werenât sure what compelled you to agree, (maybe it was the fact that his puppy-dog eyes were just far too cute) but his eyes immediately lit up and he started telling you all about the beach excitedly, and soon your nervousness was forgotten.
But now, that nervousness had returned, in all of its glory. It was kind of pitiful; werenât teenagers supposed to love going to the beach? You heaved a sigh and pulled your bag over your shoulder, preparing yourself for the trek to the bus stop that would take you to the shore.
When the bus finally pulled into the station after twenty minutes of waiting, it was packed full, probably because it was a Saturday and everyone was trying to get to the beach, which made everything a million times worse.
The crowd left you itching in your newly bought swimwear, sitting underneath your cover-up. because you didnât own any before Peter had asked you. Thankfully, a quick shopping trip and a rather awkward conversation with a clothing shop employee had fixed that problem, with the nice lady reassuring you that this was what people wore to the beach nowadays, and that it looked fine.
When the bus pulled to the side at the beach, half of the crowd got off, and you were spat out of the bus as the excited children and their exhausted parents swarmed out of the vehicle. You did a quick check that you still had all of your things, and then pulled out your phone to call Peter. It seemed that wasnât necessary, though, because as soon as you hit dial and did a quick scan of the boardwalk, you found the boy you were looking for leaning against one of the fences, glancing around.
You caught his gaze and couldnât help the smile that lit up your face, despite the incredibly fast rate of your heart and your jitters. Even the sound of the ocean made you more nervous than you would have liked, and you hoped it wasnât too obvious.
Peter pushed himself off of the fence post he had been sitting on and rushed over to you, immediately offering to take one of your two bags. You gave him the lighter of the two after much insistence on his part to take at least something for you.
âThe bus was more crowded than usual, huh?â He said as the two of you started making your way down the path. You werenât sure where you were going, but at least it was away from the crowd that had just gotten off the bus and were still huddled around the stop. You chuckled, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear as the wind pulled it out of place, âYeah, I mean, itâs Saturday, and the beach is a popular place, I guess. Do you come here often?â
Peter shrugged, âNot really, I mean, I really like to swim and everything but I have the internship and school, and I donât get time to come. Really would like to come more often, though,â He seemed to think for a brief moment, before adding quickly and nervously, âEspecially if itâs with you.â
A blush rose to his cheeks and he rubbed the back of his neck shyly.
You were left speechless, far too flattered to form a coherent sentence, and sputtered, âUh-yeah, oh, Iâd love to go outâuh, hang outâuh, yeah, uh more.â
Your words only made the situation more awkwardâand instead of comforting Peter and quelling his embarrassment, it only seemed to make his blush a deeper shade of tomato.
âUh, sorry,â He said, finally breaking the silence after walking wordlessly for several moments, âI didnât mean to make you feel uncomfortable, I was justâ,â
âItâs okay, really,â You assured him, giving him a small smile, glancing up so that you could meet his eyes, âItâs true. I really likeâuh, hanging out with you.â
The relief that spread across his features was almost comical; and you tried to bite back your giggles, but they still spilled past your lips, too insistent to be held back, and he exclaimed with a laugh, âHey, donât make fun of me, Y/N, Iâm really bad at this and I donât know what to say toâyou knowâ,â
You tapped his shoulder lightly and told him, âDonât worry about that, Peter,â and with a bout of newly found bravery, you said, âYouâre too cute.â
He blushed again, but this time the rosiness in his cheeks was accompanied by a bright smile and shining eyes.
***
When Peter had first suggested going to swim, youâd scrambled for an excuse, and managed to make one upâ âHey, um, Iâm kind of tired from the bus ride, do you wanna grab some ice cream as a refresher?â
He hadnât objected; instead, heâd been quick to agree and quite excited as he admired the massive array of flavours spread out in front of him as the two of you entered the cute little ice cream shop by the seaside. The shop was surprisingly emptyâyou supposed it was because the store was located a bit further away from the bus stop, and most people probably went straight to the water.
Ah, the water. You shoved all thoughts of the stuff out of your mind and focused on picking a flavour.
You quickly made your order of two scoops of chocolate, and received it, instantly starting to eat it, but Peter was very indecisive about his flavours. There seemed to be more flavours than heâd ever seen, because he tried several of them and seemed extraordinarily excited by all of them, before ending up just getting strawberry.
He sat down opposite to you, and started eating his ice-cream cone, as well, though you noted, amused, how he kept casting looks back at the countless flavours behind the glass, and then turning to glance at you.
âDid you want another flavour instead?â You said, raising an eyebrow curiously, and Peter bit his lip and quickly turned back to you.
âNah, I just havenât reallyâŚfelt this, you know, normal, for a long time,â He admitted, âI meanâI just havenât had ice cream in a while, I guess.â
You considered his words, âBut normal is good, right?â âYeah, yeah, itâs good,â He said immediately, without hesitation, âItâs what I need, and I justâŚyou know, I have the internship, and Iâm always surrounded by the Avengers, and itâs tiring sometimes. This isâŚreally nice,â He met your eyes shyly.
âI get what you mean,â You said, holding his gaze and smiling, âYouâre so busy all the time, itâs kind of a miracle how you always find time to show up at the shop.â He brushed his hair out of his eyes and blurted, âNah, Iâll always find time to see you.â You felt the heat rise to your cheeks, and felt the butterflies in your stomach before Peterâs cheeks turned pink. But, they did, half a second after yours, and the two of you returned to eating your ice cream quietly, until you just couldnât bear watching him eat anymore.
âPeter,â You exclaimed, with a deep frown, âDid I just see you take a bite out of your ice cream? A bite? With your teeth?â âYeah, well, I donât want to get spit all over it by licking itâ,â
***
By the time the two of you finally got even relatively close to the water, it was almost half-past four. Youâd found other things to do; spending almost an hour in the ice cream shop alone, and then wandering through the various stores and buying little keychains and souvenirs. Youâd found several ways to stall actually having to deal with your fears. You didnât know how to swim. Even thinking about it made you feel embarrassed, even though it wasnât really anything to be ashamed of. StillâŚ
You were at a beach. With a cute boy. In swimming clothes. And you didnât know how to swim.
When you finally reached the shoreline, after tentatively crossing the beach. The sand was kind of nice between your toes, but the thought of actually going into the waterâthat endless expanse of blue that you could probably very easily get lost in and never be seen againâmade your head spin. Peter eagerly approached the water and walked in until he was knee-deep in the sea, beckoning you to come closer, and you bit your lip.
âHey, itâs not too cold today!â He said excitedly, âCome on, Y/N! Oh, I forgot how nice the beach is, wow.â
âUh, Peter, IâŚâ
âCome on, itâs not too cold today, I promise,â He called out, and, not wanting to disappoint, you slipped off your cover-up and approached the water hesitantly.
You sucked in a deep breath and first put one foot in, then the other, but a particularly large wave washed in and then suddenly you were knee-deep in the water, you yelled out, jumping back, âPete, I donâtâ,â
âY/N, are you okay?â He said, almost instantly at your side, his face laced with concern, âHave you swam in the ocean before? Iâm so sorry I didnât check with you, I was too excitedâ,â âItâs not your fault, Pete,â You shut your eyes tightly, âI donât know how to swim.â
âWhat?â
This was it. He was going to be so disappointed, and then youâd have to go home on a silent bus ride, and heâd never talk to you again, and then heâd never ask you out ever again, because you were far too boring for him, and thenâ
âY/N,â He said softly, taking both of your hands gently and meeting your eyes, âItâs okay. If itâs too much then we can head back, Iâm sorryâ,â
âNo, no, Iâm okay,â You insisted, and he let go of your hands carefully, letting you regain your balance. Youâd gotten this far, after all. It was the first time youâd ever even touched seawater, and it was kind of niceâthe way the water foamed against the sand and the glimmer of the ocean beneath the sunlight.
âDo you wannaâŚhold on, then?â He bit a lip as he held out a hand tentatively, âWe donât have to go too far, and you can holdâuh, my hand, if you want toâ,â You took his hand.
âThank you, Peter,â You said, the feeling of his hand in yours almost instantly making you feel much saferâat least you had someone to hold on to. You wouldnât be lost at sea, you wouldnât be washed away, because Peter was here. âIâm so sorry I didnât tell you earlier, I was really embarrassed, and I didnât want to make you feel bad for inviting me here, soâ,â
âItâs okay, Y/N,â He said, shaking his head and carefully leading you, step by step, deeper into the water, âI understand, itâs scary. Iâll help you, though,â He said his tone brightening, âItâs not so scary when you have someone with you, is it?â
No, it really wasnât.
âItâs so much better,â You said, unable to help the smile that crept across your lips, âThank you, no oneâs ever done this for me before.â
âThis is okay, right?â He said, the waves now reaching up to your hips, âItâs kind of nice, isnât it?â
âIt is really nice,â You said softly, overwhelmed with the smell of the sea, and Peterâs smile, and the warmth of his hand, and it was justâ
Nice. This was normalâit was what both of you needed, and it was nice.

CHAPTER TEN.
JTRM â THE âRâ STANDS FOR RECOVERING!
PREVIOUSLY.
CHAPTER 10!!! THE BIG ONE-OH! this fic is officially classified âburn as slow as FUCKâ
i hope the long awaited reveal is not disappointing. and coherent. this chapterâs a mess ghgnjdkagbj iâm laughing again GOD. and thank you all again for your kind comments and messages and sticking with me this long!!!
Johnny fidgeted his heels against the carpeted floor of Deviâs sedan, uncertain about why they were going on another outing so soon after their last. They had only returned home long enough to put away all of their newly acquired foodstuffs, then Devi had ushered him right back out to the car. He had intended to make dinner again â something more elaborate than instant meals or canned soup, as an apology for his severe misstep tonight â but Devi informed him that dinner could wait, with a rather content smile on her face, he noted.
And she did seem happy now, too, which made him very uneasy.
Devi wasnât so quick to forgive, and yet she was driving and singing along with the music that she had on at a deafening volume, smirking at nothing from time to time. She looked very sure about something, and Johnny couldnât imagine what it was.
As they pulled into the parking lot of All-Mart, he guessed that her smile was because she intended to torture him with a trip through a wretched DEPARTMENT STORE.
âDevi⌠why are we here? I donât want to go into that revolting Hellhole.â Johnny hid halfway behind the frame of the door as he looked out the window at all the people that were still out shopping, even at this moderately late hour â moderately late for people that slept, anyway.
âJust wanted to look at a couple of things.â Devi answered smoothly as she clicked the engine off. Johnnyâs frown warbled unconfidently, but he had little choice besides joining Devi as she exited the car.
He hunched slightly while they walked, moving ever-closer to Devi as they passed more and more people â awful, contemptable people! That has to be her intention; to punish him further for his outburst at the supermarket. And here he thought that he was the expert in inflicting agony.
The inside of the store was so bright and horrible, he couldnât stand it. The intercom boasted a disgustingly sweet, fake-positive womanâs voice, that continuously repeated commercials for the storeâs bargains and sales â what was the POINT of that? They were already IN the store, there was no need to advertise further!! It made Johnny twitch and glower in annoyance, which Devi took notice of, but then made no attempt to ease his nerves.
Devi hated department stores almost as much as Johnny did, but only felt giddiness from the idea that had hatched in her mind earlier. She turned them into the Baby section of the store, and resisted the urge to wrap her arm around Johnnyâs neck to make sure he didnât go far while she browsed. Johnny, now almost in a full crouch as he shuffled backwards beside her, had no intention of moving even an inch further from her side, out of fear and contempt for his surroundings. He hardly even registered that they were in an aisle coated with different options for teething rings and burb-bibs.
With her eyes moving back to watch Johnny every so often, Devi searched the shelves until she found what she so desired; a toddler harness. Johnny was so thin that one might actually fit on him, with the right adjustments. And if it cut into his underarms, that would be tough shit!
She plucked one off of a hook to examine it closer. It was a cute little piggy, and had the clasps and leash attachment that she was so very interested in. Even if she was certain that Johnny could figure out how to unbuckle it, she hoped that his spur-of-the-moment rush toward a target would alert her that he was up to something, and she could stop him before he did anything more. For once she was thankful that he was so single-minded when he was hungry for violence.
Devi had all but decided to buy the harness, until she turned it around and saw the price tag.
Thirty-five FUCKING dollars.
She recoiled her head back, as though it physically pained her to purchase something so stupid for such an equally stupid price. There was no way that she was going to drop that kind of cash on a dumbass little piggy-thing after she just had to blow a hundred or so dollars on groceries! It wasnât like the freelance gigs were rolling in with a steady stream of money!
Surely there had to be a cheaper alternative, she thought, as she dug through the different brands of baby attachments. She was dismayed to find anything cheaper was made of material that looked like it could barely keep an infant subdued, let alone an adult maniac. Devi sighed in annoyance.
One of her fingers ticked away at the digits on her opposite hand as she mentally tallied the money that should be left in her checking account, debating if she had enough to spare for this and still make rent. Just as she was considering dipping into her cushion of âdisaster fundâ money â Johnny was arguably just as much of a disaster as a broken-down car, or an impromptu bone fracture â the glitter of metal clasps on the aisle across from them caught her eye.
Devi tilted her head towards the Pet section with renewed interest.
The new idea that her brain was constructing was almost too cruel, but she was beyond caring about if or how Johnnyâs ego would suffer at this point. She waved her hand near Johnnyâs face to rouse him from his paranoia, then walked across the aisle, slow enough that she could make certain Johnny was following her. Johnny jolted at being left behind for even a second, and scampered after her in a mild panic. He took his spot behind Devi again, and began ringing his hands together in an effort to ease himself, seeing as Devi wasnât offering him any such kindness.
Devi nodded approvingly that he had stayed close, then went to work inspecting the various dog collars and leashes that decorated the wall. She took a sturdy looking leash off of its hook, and sprung the clasp a few times with her thumb. A smile grew on her face the more she played with it â this might offer even better control than a toddler harness. After all, this was supposed to be for a massive dog, not a little wobbly baby.
She flipped the packaging around, and was unbothered by the modest $8.99 price tag. While it was still more than Devi was willing to spend on pet supplies, for something as simple as this, she knew where to go to get it at a price that she could afford.
--
A LOCAL DOLLAR STORE:
âThis is just as good.â Devi boasted, relishing in the rare sensation of triumph as she held up her choices; a black dog collar and its matching black leash. Johnny stood at her side, one finger on his lip in befuddlement.
âDo you have a dog?â He asked. They hadnât lived together long, but he hadnât seen nor heard any indications that Devi had a dog. He wondered if she was planning on getting one â a large one, by the looks of it â to keep him in check, or for some other nefarious plot to coerce him to comply with her wishes. Devi looked at him with a shine in her eyes and an excited smile that disturbed him slightly.
Johnny followed behind her as she bought the two items in question, puzzling all the way about what evil purpose she had in mind for them. Clearly there was nothing normal about this purchase, if her response was so bizarre. They walked out to the front of the store, and Devi stopped him before he could move out of the overhead lightsâ reach. She was too eager to wait until they got home to fit the collar on him, and wanted to instead give the whole system a test run tonight.
âCome here.â She spoke with a smile, urging him to face her. Johnny did as he was told, and watched her unclasp the collar with the leash draped over her elbow. Devi adjusted the collar until it was as tight as she could make it, then moved to put it on him.
Johnnyâs spine straightened with paralyzing static as Deviâs wrists brushed over each of his shoulders, and he stood taut and motionless while she worked to fasten the collar on his neck.
He could barely comprehend what she was doing when she was standing so painfully close, and his heart quickened in the confusion, able to do little else besides push hot blood to his face. As her hands moved to the front of his throat, Johnny arched his neck back and away, trying desperately to distance himself from the tantalizing proximity of Deviâs person to his. He kept his focus on the sky, begging anything up there to interest his mind more than the woman mere inches away.
Just as his turmoil felt like it was going to take him off the rails, a click! and soft tug distracted him, and he looked down to realize fully that Devi had just put a dog collar on him.
âWHââ Johnny baulked at his unwanted accessory. âDEVI, WHATââ
âOh, I donât want to hear it from you, Captain of the Skull Bludgeoning Committee.â She pointed at him, though her smug smile remained.
Johnny scowled in embarrassment, but just as he was going to rant to her that he was not a fucking dog, and that he demanded more respect than this, and that this was completely humiliating, Devi brought a hand up and looped her finger into his collar, tugging him forward and unintentionally garbling any of the words that he had prearranged for her. She stuck her tongue out, pleased, as she clicked the leashâs clasp onto the ring of the collar.
âThere we go.â Devi hummed. Johnny looked down to the black lead that now attached his neck firmly to Deviâs fist, and couldnât help but find the observation both terrifying and comically befitting.
âCome, maniac.â Her voice caught his attention again. She chuffed and turned to walk down the sidewalk. âI think we deserve some tacos for this little excursion!â
âOooh, tacos.â Johnnyâs eyes grew shiny and wide, and he trailed after her eagerly at the prospect of a yummy, greasy dinner. He tucked away his lingering resentment, and vowed to bring it up later, once they were home and full of food. He might have a better shot at convincing her once sheâs eaten something.
--
DAYS LATER:
ââŚIs this really Devi?â Tenna asked into her phone skeptically.
âWhatâyes, itâs me.â
âI donât recall the Devi I know asking me to go outside WILLINGLY in at LEAST a year. Maybe LONGER.â Her voice grew even more incredulous, and she tumbled Spooky in her hands while she debated if her friend had been probed by aliens, or replaced by an android. Devi scoffed.
âYou can just say you donât want to go. I was just going to take Johnny⌠out. Yâknow. Maybe go see a movie, eat among the masses. Something disgusting like that.â She replied.
âIs this a date thing?â Tenna asked. She could almost feel the cold aura expelling off of Devi through the receiver of her phone, and she snickered. âOk, so not a date thing. What is it then?â
âJust a little test of his will again, thatâs all.â Devi hummed, and one of Tennaâs eyes narrowed suspiciously at the rather happy tone in her voice. Very, very strange.
âOo-okayyyâŚâ Tenna drew out, then regathered her standard chipper attitude. âOKAY! Iâll be up in a little bit.â
âBut⌠youâre closer to the ground floor. Wouldnât it make more sense for us to meet you downââ
âSEE YA IN A BIT!â She laughed and hung up, leaving Devi with no option but to wait for her.
--
Devi stepped out of her room, newly dressed and rubbing a towel on her still-damp hair. Every time she had to wash it, she reminded herself that it would need to be cut soon â even with her hair barely past her jaw, it was still too long for her taste. Too annoying to manage.
She turned her attention to Johnny, who was sitting with his knees up on the couch, watching TV. Deviâs self-satisfied smile returned â she had been wearing it an awful lot lately. Johnny wasnât too keen on going out tonight, besides the fact that they would be going to the Camera, but Devi was excited to put him through another trial-run with the leash.
Eating out at a taco shop was one thing, and she certainly felt more at ease with him tethered to her, but it was hardly enough to prove that it would work consistently. She hoped that some dumbass at the theater or on the street would give him a reason to lunge, and then she could really give this new mechanic a test.
Johnny looked up as she approached, and smiled against himself at how nice she looked. He liked all her outfits, but she dressed differently when she was leaving the house.
âAre you ready to go?â He asked casually.
âAlmost, just need to tie up my hair.â Devi replied, then went to ask him the same, when a new, uneasy thought came to her.
There was only one bathroom in the apartment, and seeing as it was conjoined to her bedroom, Johnny was never in it when she was asleep. And she couldnât recall, in all the times she was conscious with him at home, which was always now, Johnny ever using her bathroom to shower. Deviâs eyelid wiggled.
âJohnny⌠do youââ She didnât know how to ask this gently. âHave you bathed since you moved in?â
Johnny stared at her incredulously.
âYes, of course.â He shrugged her comment off. âI just wash my head in the kitchen sink. And then scrub my arms and things with a dish rag, or what-have-you.â
Thatâs how he preferred to bathe when he lived alone too, unless he was completely covered in some disgusting fluid like blood or mud. Being naked to shower was unpleasant, and he tried to avoid it as much as he could, preferring instead to meticulously scrub and scrape away dirt and dead skin with his hands â gloved hands, unless otherwise impossible.
Devi stared at him in horrified disgust.
âUP.â She yelled at him, and yanked him up into a standing position. Johnny barely had a chance to steady himself before Devi was rushing him toward her room. He panicked.
Her bedroom was the only part of the apartment that he was still unfamiliar with, and for good reason; it was Deviâs domain. It was the most âDeviâ room of all the rooms in the entire world, and it made him nervous and awed to be inside it. Every time he had to use the restroom, he hurried in and out as quickly as he could, and tried not to look at anything too long, as though Devi would be aware of him snooping in her personal things.
His body lurched a little as Devi pushed him past the threshold of her bedroom door, and he skidded on the carpet the rest of the way.
âWAIT, WAIT!â Johnny called, but his cries fell on repulsed, deaf ears.
âTAKE A SHOWER.â Devi ordered him and threw him inside, shutting the door as a loud âperiodâ at the end of her sentence. âUGH⌠DisgustingâŚ!â
Johnny stood in a crouch with his wrists crossed, looking around unconfidently at the four walls of the bathroom as though they were his prison. A sharp knock startled him.
âIâll leave your clothes to change into outside the door!â
He frowned, then frowned more when he heard her bedroom door close too. A grimace crawled over his mouth, but again, he was compelled to do as Devi said.
--
Devi slouched in her armchair, pigtails upright now, rolling her ankle over her knee in annoyance. She should have realized he hadnât properly bathed in weeks, but why was that even up to her to handle? He should have asked her to use the shower! What kind of goblin was he that he didnât shower?
The door to her room clicked open, and Johnny stepped out, a wide, moping frown on his face, like a child that had been forced to eat his broccoli. He was dressed in the outfit she picked out, and held his dirty clothes in a ball out in front of him with both hands.
âWhere can I put these to dry?â Johnny asked. âShould I just leave them in the sink?â
Deviâs eyebrow twitched in disbelief as she realized that the wad of clothing was soaking wet.
ââŚWHYâŚâ She took in a deep breath. âWhy are your other clothes WET?â
âI showered with them on, and then changed into these.â Johnny replied, as thought it was obvious. Devi thought she might have a hernia.
âNNY you are the WEIRDEST FUCKER on EARTH, I swear to GOD!!â She exclaimed, fingers clutching the arms of her chair as she stared out across the other side of the room. Johnny frowned in surprise.
âI donât see why thatâs so WEIRDââ
âDonât even⌠Do not.â Devi pinched her fingers closed on each hand, a gesture for him to shut his mouth. âItâs fine, itâs fine. Just⌠next time, try taking your clothes off⌠BEFORE getting in the shower.â
âIf youâre worried I didnât wash my body thatâs notââ Johnny huffed.
âAh. Ah.â Devi held up a hand and exhaled. âI donât want to know, itâs fine. Just hang your clothes over the fucking⌠shower curtain. Thanks.â
Johnnyâs brow creased in annoyance; he didnât want her to think he was unhygienic! He was very clean! Itâs not like she noticed he hadnât âproperlyâ bathed because he smelled musty and gross; he couldnât even bear the repugnant stench of B.O. himself.
He harrumphed, and returned to the bathroom to hang his damp clothes, leaving Devi alone to rub her forehead wearily. Her quiet was short-lived.
Devi could hear Tennaâs door slam even from two floors up, and rolled her eyes at her friendâs overexuberance. Hopefully Johnny didnât filet someone and ruin all of her fun for the evening. She got up and moved to her room to grab her long coat, meeting Johnny halfway. He lingered, unsure if he should stay inside her room or not, but Devi didnât seem to mind. She slid her jacket on, then turned to give him a once over.
âThere, donât you look all nice and polished.â Devi smiled at him, observing as she did that heâd bothered to comb his hair post-shower. Johnnyâs mouth vanished at the sudden compliment, then slowly returned with a broad grin.
âOh, thank you.â He felt himself relax some, and folded his hands behind his back. As long as Devi was pleased with his efforts, any annoyances he had with her requests paled in comparison to the reward.
The door shook to life with a series of energetic knocks, drawing their attention to it. Johnny stared at the door with minor hostility, but lowered his eyelids in boredom as Tennaâs voice resounded on the other side.
âDEVI-I-I, IâM HE-ERE!â She sung. Johnny grumbled, and Devi chuckled a little at his response.
âYouâll have to keep me sane.â She commented to him quietly as she moved to answer the door, and Johnny blinked in surprise from the tone of camaraderie in her voice. It made him feel strange; almost hopeful that their friendship could be stabilizing to some degree. Exciting!
âDEVI!â Tenna squealed as the door opened. âThis is so EXCITING!â
Johnny watched Tennaâs dancing with more suspicion, and skulked behind Devi for safety. Devi laughed, and moved to fish Johnnyâs collar out of the deep pocket of her coat.
âRelax, youâre scaring my maniac.â A snide chuckle, and she turned to Johnny to loop the constraint around his neck. He felt less anxious about the action now that he was expecting it, but it still overstimulated his being too much for his liking, and he tilted his chin up high to ignore it.
Tenna stared at the scene before her with wide, mildly terrified eyes.
âOkay.â Devi said as she clicked the collar shut. âWhereâd I throw that leash?â
âItâs in the kitchenâŚâ Johnny answered, a little begrudgingly. His attempts to convince her to not use this new restraint tactic of hers had gone absolutely nowhere. Devi thanked him and went to retrieve it.
âUM.â Tenna managed out of her shock. Johnny brought his shoulders up to his ears as he crossed his arms.
Devi returned with what Tenna was haunted to see was, as assumed, a literal dog leash. She attached it to Johnnyâs collar and gave it a couple gentle tugs to make sure everything was secure.
ââWHAT AM I WATCHING HERE?â Tenna yelled, throwing her arms in the direction of the pair that was causing her so much emotional and mental distress. âIS THIS SOME KINDA BDSM THING?â
Devi and Johnny shot her matching looks of concern and disgust.
âNO. Jesus!â Devi wound the end of the leash around her knuckles. âThis is how Iâm keeping him in line when we go out now, since he canâtââ She threw Johnny a quick glare. ââCONTROL HIMSELF.â
Johnny sulked at the floor, but made no move to correct her. Tenna took a second to process what she was being told, looking between them and the leash a few times.
ââŚOOH.â She said finally. âTHATâS why you want to go out tonight, isnât it!? To test⌠whatever this is!â
Internally, Devi cursed Tenna for her inability to be covert, but outwardly she smiled confidently.
âNot at all!â She spoke with a grin. âWeâre just going to the movies. Câmon, Nny.â
Devi gave his leash a soft pull to urge him forward, and she led Johnny into the hallway with no resistance. Tenna poked her lips out curiously, but knew better than to try and figure out Deviâs convoluted plans at this point. She stepped outside and allowed Devi to lock the door, then enthusiastically led the way out of the building.

Sanders Sides/ Boku no Hero Academia Quirk AU
Yes, you heard me.
Maybe this warrants some context.
So, I was looking for bizarre crossover fanfiction, as you do, and I came across one Sanders Sides and BNHA fic called âWhat Makes Up Midoriyaâ by kalopsic on ao3. I read it and, itâs a bit rough but damn did the idea stick in the best ways.
Anyways, I canât seem to write a fic fast enough to post it . Iâm already working on trying to adapt it into a comic or something but Iâd honestly rather just read it. I already posted this on my ao3 account, though I donât have any fics written there but Iâm gonna copy and paste the google doc here. There will be criticism of the original fic and if you end up reading it, kalopsic, just know that I love your fanfiction and will be waiting for your next update if youâre still working on it.
Basic plot: My Hero Academia--Canon Divergence
The divergence being that Izuku basically had physical manifestations of the Sanders sides
Sides:
Rin/ Anxiety: didnât start out with dark bags like real Thomasâ Anxiety, he developed them over time for reasons Iâll say later
Yoshi/ Morality: the child of the group, as opposed to Thomasâ being the dad
Akio/ Hero/ Princey: basically Roman but Izuku just wanting to be a hero
Satoshi/ Logic: basically Logan
Original fic dislikes:
each side had a quirk and I felt that, that it easily made Izuku very OP (overpowered), even they acknowledged it, Â but I just felt like it was too much, no matter how convenient it was (Prince character had the power to double Izukuâs quirk power, Anxiety had the power to cause illusions, Morality had the power to heal, Logic could strategize)
everyone just dismissing his quirk just because that's how everyone treated him in MHA; SERIOUSLY EVERY SEPARATE PERSONALITY HAD ITS OWN QUIRK! HOW IS THAT NOT HERO MATERIAL?! It just didnât make any sense to me and made me feel disillusioned.
Even if the sides didn't have quirks, they would still be useful; it just seemed like the author was looking for excuses to keep Izuku on track for receiving One For All
Likes:
story had a lot of potential to explore Izukuâs character and emotions, especially if I keep it the same track of it being undiscovered for the majority of his life
Itâs just an interesting idea to see these characters placed in such a situation that would for sure require teamwork on the field and each of their reaction and reception to certain events and responsibilities
each facet of his personality may hold more radical opinions or measures to complete certain tasks that Izuku may not want to believe heâd be capable of or like (kinda exploring his character, like I said before); maybe Rin is willing to kill or sacrifice people for âthe greater goodâ kinda thing
if I keep it in the same track of him not discovering it until heâs fourteen or fifteen, it could keep his âgrowing up quirklessâ complex he retains in the show and I think watching work it out between all of the facets of his personality would be nice and comforting; they help him move through the whole treating people with âheroicâ quirks like theyâre on a pedestal and his inferiority complex
I like the whole emotional aspect of the sides, itâs kinda what entices me about this concept
Things that stay the same:
they first manifest at his thought of âI donât want to be aloneâ
theyâre basically all the same as Logic, Morality, Anxiety and Hero
he still meets All Might
Sludge villain still happens
he could summon each one individually if he wants
Rin does cares about everyone and the constant danger theyâre in causes him so much stress/anxiety (minor change in that he develops the bags overtime)
Changes:
no, each side will not have a quirk
I donât know if Iâll have them be able to directly talk to him like they do inside his head; small handicap that I feel would help the story would be that he could only talk to them in their physical form but I donât think Iâll adhere to that for the sake of convenience
he will not get One For All, or at least if he does, it will not be like the canon version, maybe All Might will go with his original plan of bestowing it on one of the students in UA and he saw Izuku has potential
Iâll focus on the growing bond of the personalities because they manifested too late and honestly too close to high school that they need to learn teamwork and cooperation between each other and how to master their quirk
the sides are not omniscient; they donât come into existence immediately knowing what they are and how they work; theyâre all kinda blown away when they appear out of nowhere
he doesnât need a phrase or punchline to summon them
they choose to have their own names: Satoshi with kanji meaning clear-thinking and quick-witted for Logic, Yoshi with kanji meaning joyful for Morality, Akio with kanji for hero and manly, and Rin with kanji for dignified, severe and cold
Satoshi will develop his need for glasses since heâs always reading and, unwisely, often does it in dark lighting; the only one who needs glasses
Maybe just to have fun, Iâll have each side actually be the other characteristic at their core, like how Yoshi/Morality is actually Izukuâs Hero and not Akio; possibility is Satoshi is actually Anxiety/ Izukuâs fear because at his core, he doesnât want Izuku to become a hero because itâs reckless and dangerous even though he has all the statistics showing him that itâs, for the most part, a safe enough job with experience and training, and Rin could be Izukuâs strategic heart because he could sense the weakness in any tactic and theirs but he also knows all the possibilities that the plan could go wrong and thatâs what makes him so stressed and anxious (I donât know, this one kinda feels weak); what could Akio be, if heâs not the Hero? Eh, I donât think I should do this, itâs kinda powerful on its own with just the revelation of Yoshi being Izukuâs true heroic heart
Overview of the âSidesâ quirk:
-four full-bodied duplicates of Izuku can be manifested at Izukuâs will; each duplicate houses different aspects of Izukuâs personality
-when a Side is injured, time spent in Izukuâs mind will heal them; time it takes depends on the severity of the injurys
-if a Sideâs body is destroyed or âkilledâ they will regenerate within Izukuâs mind and he can summon them again
-the Sides arenât hivemind clones but arenât completely independently people; can feel and think for themselves but regain energy in the time Izuku keeps them stored in himself and have Izukuâs safety as their number one priority instinctually; irrationally ready to die for Izuku (Rin is more subtle about it)
-by default are summoned in the Sanders Sides order of a circle with Izuku standing at the head and Satoshi to his right and Rin at Satoshiâs right, Akio to Rinâs right and Yoshi to Akioâs right, by Izukuâs left; standing in a circle
-farthest Izuku can summon them is twenty feet away from him
-can summon them at light speed after enough practice
-can summon them off the ground (places above him and the like) after a bit of practice
-if he gets One for All, the power Izuku uses for One for All (like 5%) gets distributed evenly between them (they end up with 1% each); it takes them a while to figure this out when they went one hundred percent but all of them were only at twenty-something
-the Sides gain whatever memories Izuku has, even when theyâre separated from him but it doesnât work the other way around until the mind meld; for instance, if Izuku found out an important piece of information while the Sides werenât there and then Izuku took them back in, they would automatically know what the information is but if a Side found out, then they would have to intentionally tell or âsendâ the memory/info to Izuku when theyâre in the mind
Little Character Quirks (Not the superpower kind):
-Rin hogs Izukuâs phone because (since heâs Izukuâs fear, doubt and pessimism amplified into one single person) he can recognize everything that is potentially dangerous and fatal around him and uses the phone to distract himself; if heâs sitting on the couch by himself, he can recognize about fifteen different fire hazards and weak points in the living room and the danger gives him potentially crippling anxiety even though he knows that the majority of the danger is highly unlikely to happen; he distracts himself by reading articles of all the good things that have happened in the passing year and good deeds that people have done because his mind tends to take a turn for the worst in terms of his faith in humanity
-Satoshi is more believing in the fact that heroes are pretentious assholes, but in much fancier, intellectual words; people like Mt. Lady and Endeavor disgust him, whereas Izuku simply doesnât care for them; donât know where he stands on All Might; he, like Logan, wants Izuku to have a career in the scientific field and reminds him of it every other hour
-Akio is very quick to start a fight; has little inhibition and is very confident in his abilities, since he is Izukuâs brave, âheroicâ side so heâs quick to act on whatever impulse he has even if he knows it won't end well.
-Yoshi is the ultimate All Might otaku--Izukuâs fanaticism but amplified about ten times--becomes incapacitated every time they talk to All Might. TH3 PHANBOI.
-They each have a different favorite food; Izuku with his pork cutlet bowl, Satoshi with his grilled salmon (heâs a simple man), Akio and his beef teriyaki bowl, Yoshi with his onigiri and bento box-lunch (heâs partial to the cute bento box, the kind that has panda onigiri and octopus sausage), and Rin with his ramen (doesnât like eating it as much because heâs scared of choking--he has to have a really shitty day to eat it)
-Rin and Akio are suckers for Yoshi (though theyâll never admit to it), since heâs like the child of the group
-Rin can (and actually likes to) cook; learned how to by spending most of his time with his mom and Yoshi; has a little handkerchief that he wraps around his head to cover his hair when he cooks; he keeps it tucked into his front pocket, flowing out in classic emo fashion; makes Yoshiâs cute bento boxes for lunch, though heâll take that secret to his grave and made Yoshi swear to do so as well; eventually tells the rest and they find it hilarious because he can make the bento boxes super cute; the first one to find out, aside from Yoshi, is Akio and he will help him out with cooking the octopus dogs since he gets really anxious around the jumping grease and Yoshi canât cook for shit (friendship?); eventually, when everyone finds out, he begins to regularly cook for them since it relieves his stress after a while in the dorms
-ironically, Satoshi is the best fighter of all of them because he has the technique down to a fucking art but Akio is the physically strongest; Satoshi can still beat Akio any time any day
-In terms of fighting, Akio and Satoshi are the more aggressive fighters, but for different reasons; Akio is just the gung-ho, trigger happy type that dives in head first and Satoshi recognizes the circumstances where being on offense is the greater tactical action he could take; Yoshi and Rin are more evasive, Yoshi because he doesnât want to hurt anyone and Rin because heâs skittish and always scared of being hurt, despite seeing holes in any enemy he faces; Yoshi is more likely to go on offense than Rin when he knows that the enemy is a villian but he can never bring himself to fight seriously with all his power against his classmates or friends, especially Kacchan; itâs not rare to see Rin go on offense, itâs just that he prefers to run because thatâs who he is
-Akio is SUPER into fashion; cares a lot about his outward appearance and is the most muscular out of all of them because of it; his money never lasts when he goes out shopping; has ear piercings because why the hell not?
Actual Fic Outline
Act 1
-Izuku is a child, talks to âimaginary friendsâ that would be triggered by certain events or emotions; he would talk to âHeroâ or whatever when he would watch All Might and when he sees animals or kids that need help or when he's sad (maybe Inkoâs POV)
-Inko thinks Izukuâs short conversations with himself are kinda odd but she thinks its just something related to his quirk
-when they go to the doctor, the doctor tells them about his toe and that he wonât have a quirk at all
-Inko asks if his conversations with himself and imaginary friends were a sign of a quirk manifestation but doctor dismisses it as childâs imagination; their logic is that if Izuku did manifest a quirk  it would either be hers or her husbandâs and the chance of Izuku manifesting something so radically different while having the vestigial toe joint are infinitesimal, practically impossible
-Inko takes his word for it but still thinks about Izuku talking to his âhero sideâ in front of the computer when she sees her son so heartbroken for being quirkless; she hears him say âwe can do itâ (all broken and dramatic)
-the sides begin as passing thoughts and sometimes make comments but since it is in Izukuâs head, it feels like heâs talking to himself but just a bit different but he canât really tell the difference
-goes through childhood âquirklessâ
-recall key events but with the âsidesâ included to show how natural it seems to Izuku and how easily it could be confused for the average thought process; helps an old man with his groceries when heâs like eight (Yoshi); snide comments of him being quirkless (include Akio and Rin); chasing to find the next hero fight and analyzing it (Satoshi) and Kacchan finds him and gets pissed off because heâs interested in becoming a hero (Rin and Akio); stuff like that
-Manifest physically in the beginning of the third year of middle school after Midoriya finally accepts that Kacchan is no longer his friend and thinks âI donât want to be aloneâ and passes out for a moment because, seriously, heâs conjuring up at least four physical human beings with a quirk heâs never used before; on a Friday so he doesnât have to worry about school for at least two days (or whatever day is the start of the weekend in Japan)
-They manifest, all of them have no idea what exactly happened but each have varying reactions
-all of them go home because they donât know what to do and Inko has a mild freak out
-Have some trouble knowing which Izuku is the real one, even Izuku, but Logic immediately knows that heâs not Izuku and deduces which one of them is the real one by rationalizing that this is his quirk manifesting
-immediate first impressions are Logic is smart and rational, Hero is charismatic and exaggerated; wonât stop droning about how he wants to be a hero, Morality is sweet and kind, and Anxiety is dark and pessimistic
-Inko and Izuku have a teary moment and they all group hug and go to bed, all the Izukuâs are given camitas and stuff
-Next morning theyâre all gone and Izuku freaks out just a bit and tries to summon them, with difficulty; starts crying because it doesnât work until Inko helps him
-Inko and him work on discovering his abilities and stuff, along with Logic; discover that they have all of Izukuâs memories, even the ones when theyâre outside of Izukuâs mind, but they only receive it when they are summoned back inside Izuku; they could see and feel what Izuku does but they have their own feelings and awareness; he could summon a specific side if he wants; they get hungry if they are physically manifested but they have no clue why?; if Izuku falls asleep with them still physical, he subconsciously calls them back
-Whenever Inko calls for Izuku, they all turn around
-Inko gives them all, except Anxiety, names to not get them confused ( Satoshi with characters meaning âwise and cleverâ for Logic, Â Yoshi with kanji meaning âjoyfulâ for Morality, Akio with the kanji âmanlyâ for Hero); Anxiety gives himself the name Rin
-Goes to school and accidentally summons Satoshi when he was having trouble figuring out a math problem in class; Kacchan sees this shit and flips out the first time he sees Satoshi and Izuku being nervous and scared summoned Rin subconsciously
-Kacchan gets mad and starts being an ass and Izuku summons Akio subconsciously and Akio immediately fights with Kacchan; Rin suggests they leave Akio behind because itâs his decision to start fighting Kacchan while knowing what the guy is capable of but Izuku tells him that they arenât leaving him; Rin or Izuku give Akio advice that helps Akio drop Kacchan, shocking everyone including Kacchan; leave while the Bakugou is stunned
-Izuku starts to doubt Rinâs reliability and trustworthiness because he suggested to leave Akio behind
-Izuku activates his quirk sometimes in class and gets made fun of, mostly summoning Rin when he gets really nervous or Satoshi when heâs having trouble with a math problem or something (âHeâs like a preschooler!â)
-Appointment with a doctor to confirm his quirk and have it registered in the system; doctor flips out at the astronomical odds that Izuku faced to have his quirk
-Izuku starts noticing that Rin is developing bags under his eyes
-Inko takes them to get clothes after their doctorâs appointment because I want cute shit like that with name tags to help her out
-Meet Kacchan there and, while the moms catch up and stuff, Kacchan and Izuku and the sides have a confrontation; Akio immediately almost starts a fight, Yoshi tries to calm them down but Kacchan hurts his feelings and he cries, Rin just backs off, sulking and Satoshi gets them out of there, closer to the parents within hearing range; all are given nicknames by Kacchan ( âUselessâ for Hero, âSmartassâ for Logic, âCrybabyâ for Morality and âVillianâ for Anxiety)Â
-leave all nice and color coded but kinda bummed; Inko has no clue what just went down but Izuku and Yoshi wonât let Satoshi or Rin tell her what happened
-back at school, classmates suddenly interested in Izuku now that heâs not âquirklessâ and Izuku gains more control over his quirk accidents
-Izuku pals up with some dude Tomoe-kun that has metal fists and becomes friends after a few weeks.
-Tomoe has met all his sides and theyâre all chill with him except for Rin because he doesnât think heâs a real friend since he never talked to them before he knew he had a quirk and Tomue-kun never stood up to Kacchan before
-indicator of the tension between Rin and the rest of the sides as well as Izuku
-Some point when the rest are hanging out with Tomue, Inko brings Rin into the kitchen when she saw him fidgeting without Izukuâs phone and has him help with the dinner, having him cut the vegetables; takes him a while of deliberation while standing over the cutting board with a knife over vegetables, thinking of the hundred of ways the knife could kill him or chop his or his momâs fingers off when she tells him to just do it and focus on whatâs in front of him; once he gets going, he realizes how therapeutic cutting vegetables is; Inko tells him heâs great help; Rin wonders why he isnât panicking while being surrounded by knives, fire and scalding water
-Izuku and Tomue work to find out more about Izukuâs quirk; if he can summon the sides to wherever he wants and if he can, how far or close can they be? (Maybe their default is in the same position as the Sanders sides? Definitely can only be summoned as far as six feet away) Hypothetical questions of if they can only summoned on the ground, how quick can Izuku summon them, etc.; when they combine back into Izukuâs body again, they gain Izukuâs memories but Izuku doesnât gain theirs
-Some point during the testing, they figure out theyâre facets of Izukuâs personality; maybe at a doctorâs visit by scanning his brain; when they arenât physical, Izukuâs brain has parts buzzing with activity and they are inactive when Izuku has them all summoned; conclusion, the strange, active parts of the brain are the sides; they all just figure out which aspect each one of them is, which is easy at this point
-Yoshi and Rin have a heart to heart after Rin has a panic attack without Izukuâs phone while Inko was at work or something; finds out how butthurt Rin is that the others treat him the way they do; not directly said but itâs implied that Rin is afraid to get attached to them for reasons unknown right now ( âItâs fine. It makes this easier.â--Rin, 2k18)
-Yoshi begins to hang out more with Rin and his mom when Izuku, Akio and Satoshi hang out with Tomue; Yoshi gets Rin a Tamagotchi to use instead of Izukuâs phone for when he goes out
-All hanging out in the mall sometime after a testing session and Yoshi sees an ultra-cute lunch box with panda onigiri and octopus sausages and he loses it; discovery of Yoshiâs favorite food (not that important, just a wholesome little moment for later)
-when tension between Tomue and Rin during a practice session makes Izuku uncomfortable enough to force Rin to disappear during one of their tests
-Inko and Rin have a heart to heart after a tense, awkward dinner but nothing is resolved; conversation ends with Rin telling Inko that he knows that all the sides and Izuku don't like him, maybe not even she does and she just hugs him and tells him that she loves him but nothing else; she knows that what he said about Izuku is mostly true but she doesn't know how to help him
-(time skip?) months pass and Izuku and Tomue are still pals and Rin is still a pessimistic outcast in the group; Rin spends time with Inko mostly and Yoshi, isolating himself from Izuku and the others; Akio doesnât understand why Yoshi likes Rin so much
-end of the year thing with burned notebook happens and the scrutiny of his ability to become a hero because his quirk isnât flashy or powerful; âYou might as well be quirklessâ âYour uselessness just multiplied itself four times.â
-Satoshi shares the same sentiment and tells Izuku that they would help save more lives by being a scientist or engineer and they would be more financially stable because heroes with flashier quirks tend to make more and their quirk isnât particularly flashy
-sludge villain happens, Tomue runs to get help, Izuku summons all the Sides subconsciously and Rin calls All Might when he sees him looking for the slime villain
-Izuku asks All Might if he could become a hero even though heâs not particularly powerful or experienced with his quirk; All Might says yes but with much training and education; All Might recognizes that Izuku is a one man team and tells him to build on all their teamwork; Izuku asks him of he could train him or something but All Might rushes off because he was about to return to his normal form
-Izuku starts looking for Tomue to tell him the news but Rin says âscrew him, he left usâ because All Might was literally wandering around in the direction that Tomue went and he still didnât focus on getting help instead of running away but everyone is against Rin for ruining the good vibes they all had
-Rin stalks off and Yoshi goes after him; Izuku and the rest find Tomue in the clutches of the sludge villain, save him when Rin and Yoshi come back (they had a âgut feelingâ) and All Might talks to Izuku again, scolding him for being reckless but agreeing to draw him up a fitness regimen to help him strengthen up, inspired by the Sides teamwork and strategy; he tells them to get enrolled in cheerleading (For lols but it actually helps establish trust and build agility) and Izuku and Akio are mortified about it but wonât reject any advice from their idol
-begin training with Tomue, but he tends to flake; during the months they discover that they all will continuously match Izukuâs image and body because Rin doesn't do the training but heâs still growing the muscles like Izuku and the rest but he doesn't have the hand to hand combat skills they're building
-Izuku tells Tomue about cheerleading and Tomue tells him thereâs not a chance heâs joining with him
-Izuku joins the community cheerleading group with adults who already graduated high school and they help him out; makes friends with them and they all love Yoshi; meets small time retired hero who attends to keep in shape and stay active (grew up in a circus in a family of trapeze artists); helps him with combat moves and techniques as well as acrobatics since heâs a total noob; combat lessons for free!
-Izuku and Akio are the most enthusiastic fighters and spar in their spare time; Satoshi is the best fighter out of all of them and this pisses off Akio to no end
-Yoshi is trying to integrate Rin with the rest of the group (begs him to go with them to the cheer practice and combat sessions with the veteran hero and Rin actually gets along with the veteran hero), telling the others that theyâre being unfair but they donât particularly care or make an effort to connect with Rin because Rin isnât trying either
-Small scene at home where Yoshi used some leftover rice from dinner to try to make onigiri and Rin watches painfully from the sidelines; everyone else is busy getting ready for bed or studying so Rin decides to cut in before anything gets worse and asks what the hell Yoshi is trying to do; Yoshi tells him he wants to make the cute âKawaiiâ panda onigiri he had in that one bento box they got at the mall that one time because it was âamazingâ and âadorableâ but heâs failing miserably; Rin looks at the messed up seaweed and rice balls and sighs, quickly cutting little designs and magically making one, blowing Yoshiâs mind into another dimension (âLike this?â Yoshi looks at the little panda and his jaw drops, eyes sparkling in adoration and disbelief as they look at him in wonder.); soon, Yoshi starts mysteriously ending up with cute bento box lunches; Rin makes him swear to take this information to his grave
-During a cheerleading session, the retired hero tells Izuku that he has to bond with his Sides more and grow the trust they have in each other because they donât have enough to become an effective team (regarding Rin and the frequently bickering Sides); tells him trust is a two way street and that trust is not something that is given freely (Rinâs perceived lack of trust in Izuku and Izuku in him); tells them they have to connect on a deeper level *wink, wink* foreshadowing *wink, wink*
-Tomue and Izuku plan on taking the UA test together and do but Tomue ditches Izuku to get points and Izuku only managed to get one five pointer and one ten pointer because Satoshi and Rin are arguing over the chances of winning with Satoshiâs strategy (some ways he defeats them is having them chase two of the Sides and have the run toward each other and make them disappear before they crash, making the robots crash; Satoshi recognizes a mechanism in one of the hinge joints of the robots and Rin helps him discover a weakness to exploit and render it useless; stupid stuff like that)
-the zero pointer comes; Izuku and Yoshi immediately run to help Uraraka and Satoshi pulls them back to make a plan where he and Rin distract the zero pointer and Akio, Yoshi and Izuku free Uraraka and once they get them to a safe distance, Izuku summons them back and he, Yoshi, Akio and Uraraka go hide and the timer runs out
-Izuku is devastated because he âknowsâ he failed; Akio tries to cheer him up by telling him that they could just take the general studies course and participate in the sports festival or go to another school and study in their hero department and Satoshi tells him that now he could focus on science rather than heroism and Izuku shuts them out for a while
-Tomue tries to comfort him and tells him heâll tell him all about the school because heâs confident he at least passed
-Izuko gets his acceptance and tells his mom, summons his Sides (apologizes for shutting them out for days) and they all go to tell Tomue, except for Rin whoâs still salty
-Izuku and the rest get to Tomueâs house and turns out Tomue didnât get in and heâs a wreck; says âletâs grieve togetherâ, assuming that Izuku didnât get in either but Izuku tells him that he got in
-Tomue gets mad that Izuku did even though he scored way more kill points than he did and his quirk is way better and more âheroicâ; Izuku asks him if thatâs what heâs always thought and Tomue says yes but that heâd planned to make Izuku and his Sides his sidekicks so that they could be an entire combat squad of only two people; Izuku is hurt and so is Yoshi and Akio but Akio gets mad rather than showing his hurt so openly; Satoshi gets them all to leave before all hell breaks loose between Akio and Tomue; Yoshi is crying
-Izuku comes to the realization that theyâve ignored Rin more than this once regarding his opinion about things when he was right; Tomue isnât a friend
-return home and Izuku apologizes to Rin, telling him he was right about Tomue and that he will make an effort to make Rin know that he is heard; Rin tries to be all nonchalant but from this point, their attitudes towards him is different, more respected but still tense
-celebrate his acceptance that night and they all get along and feel connected for once
-When Izuku and the rest are registering their quirk, they agree that they are sides of Izuku, so they call their quirk âSidesâ
Act 2
-high school starts and the canon events happened except that he got help with the long jump and grip strength so he didn't get last place in every one, only got last place in about five or six (donât focus so much on it; kinda just skim over it)
-Lunch time with his sides; Izuku is not a star student or particularly outstanding at first like in the manga or anime but he still trains hard and strategizes with Satoshi even though Satoshi tries to convince him to become a scientist instead every other minute; Ochako is introduced to all the sides at this time and he explains his quirk to her; wish each other luck with their hero careers; Akio has obvious crush on her and is, unfortunately, confident enough to flirt with her, but they go way over her head
-Emphasize the struggle to keep up in the quirk exercises; Kacchan is relentless with his teasing because of his non-flashy quirk; Ochako backs Izuku up when Akio gets ready to square up; Kacchan almost loses it when Yoshi tells Akio not to fight with âfriendsâ and Kacchan tells him heâs not his friend; Aizawa breaks up whatever wouldâve happened, making the sides disappear and erasing Kacchanâs quirk
-gets recognized for his strategy skills (mostly Satoshi and Rin) and combat skills (mostly Akio and Izuku) in the hero vs. villain weapon test
-teamwork between Rin and Akio is incredibly sloppy but they get the job done of distracting Kacchan with Izuku while Yoshi, Satoshi and Uraraka get the weapon
-Izuku has all the sides out and teams up with Rin and Akio to distract Kacchan while Ochako, Yoshi and Satoshi go after the weapon with Iida
-Rin and Akio begin to fight over how to handle Kacchan since Rin wants to keep his distance with him and be evasive while Akio wants to take him on hand to hand; Akio is less forgiving of Kacchan and would like some physical revenge
-Satoshi has a plan with Yoshi and Satoshi both engaging Iida in combat while Ochako stealths her way to the weapon but Iida makes sure to stay close
-Yoshi pulls his punches with Iida and Satoshi reprimands him for being too forgiving (âIf this was a real battle, you would be risking your life and everyone elseâs!â); Yoshi blocks a quick kick that wouldâve hit Satoshi cause he was distracted
-Get Iida just far away enough for Ochako to get to the weapon
-test revealed the obvious tension between Akio and Rin and the hypothetical liability of having Yoshi on the field because he didn't want to hurt anyone and would pull his punches with Iida
-Izuku notices that Rin could dodge and would warn them of punches and attacks that Kacchan hadnât thrown yet before even Izuku could process them and protected any weak spots in their stances that he could, warning them of their open spots and reminding them of the basic defensive stances; first signs of Rinâs keen ability to sense and find weakness in the group and in an enemy that is hyper focused when he is not in Izukuâs mind
-All Might gives Midoriya a pep talk; Izuku shares the progress he made with his quirk and the technique he's working on
-All Might compliments his hero suit; it is, unfortunately, still the same as the anime (not a big fan of the bunny ears, sorry)
-after this Akio decided that instead of wearing normal clothes, he will be wearing his hero suit at all times because âyou never know when a villian attack could happenâ
-Izuku is working on a technique where he summons them at different heights and certain distances so they could grab hands and propel him further towards where he wants; kinda weird to explain: it would be very quick and they would need to manifest nanoseconds at a time for it
-Can never get it quite right because theyâre still off and not in harmony; end up bickering by the end of it
-Izuku tries to get Rin and Akio to hang out together alone and get on friendlier terms but they just end up fighting and insulting each other and stop when Yoshi just begs for them to get along (theyâre both kinda suckers for Yoshi but Rin will never admit it); it usually starts with Akio saying something insensitive or Rin joking in a way that insults Akio and he takes it personally
-Izuku and the sides are hanging out in the dorm living room with Ochako and Iida; Akio pesters Satoshi while heâs studying and asks him how heâs on such good terms with Rin and how to get along with him; Satoshi simply tells him that he and Rin are amiable and have common interests in terms of strategy, though Rin usually focuses on the potential failure rate of each strategy; Akio tries to see if he and Rin have common interests
-Akio notices Satoshi is squinting his eyes and they realize that Satoshi needs glasses now, since heâs strained his eyes by reading articles on the computers and read books late at night, in bad lighting for close to a year and a half; Momo makes him some glasses in class during break when Yoshi reprimands Satoshi for straining his eyes while reading an article without glasses and asks for the prescription that they took at the last doctorâs visit; Satoshi just tells her because he memorized all the words in the prescription paper he was given
-Izuku is elected class rep because of Satoshiâs analytical mind and Akioâs charisma but Izuku thinks about how he could barely get all his sides to get along and doubts his ability to be class rep even though Akio and Yoshi are all for it at lunch with Ochako and Iida
-Ochako asks Yoshi where he got his super cute bento lunch and Rin gives Yoshi a death glare, making him stutter and change the subject
-Akio tries desperately to find common ground with Rin about food but Rin finds it weird and uncomfortable; unintentionally insults the bento box that Yoshi has that Akio doesnât know Rin made
-media incident starts and in the panic, Yoshi and Satoshi are separated from Izuku, Rin and Akio; Akio suggests a reckless idea to Izuku to try to get everyoneâs attention and then Rin tells him itâs stupid and dangerous, whatever it was; Akio tells him that this is why they donât get along and they start to fight and yell at each other while Izuku tries to calm them down
-Iida intervenes and Izuku hands off the class representative to him, knowing that he canât lead if he canât even get his sides to get along
-Izuku realizes that, for the most part, he has no idea how to work with his sides and doubts his abilities to lead them
-has heart to heart with his sides that brings all the issues between them to light; Satoshi tries to deter him from being a hero and Akio and Yoshi strongly disagree; Rin still feels like an outsider and doesnât think it will change anytime soon (doesnât think he wants it to change); Izuku tries to tell him he accepts him and cares about him but Rin won't let himself feel; kinda bittersweet while they go to bed
-USJ incident occurs and he, Asui and Mineta escape by having Satoshi hot wire the boat (discover that Satoshi is basically the library of all of Izukuâs knowledge even if he himself forgot it or just glossed over it) and have Akio spin it around with Minetaâs sticky balls in the water, getting some villains stuck on the boat, to each other or their hands together, unable to use their quirk while Asui got them out with her tongue and Izuku summons the sides back to fight off just a few escaped villains
-Yoshi jumps in the way of Tomuraâs hand when he reaches for Asui, gets disintegrated: brief moment before contact where Izuku was instinctively gonna call back Yoshi but he hears Yoshi tell him not to in his head; Izuku and Akio have a mild meltdown and, despite Satoshi and Rinâs warnings, attempts to punch Tomura but Nomu gets in the way, breaks Akioâs arm and almost kills Izuku before pros show up
-Akio is taken to Recovery Girl and Izuku, Rin and Satoshi are with Principal Nedzu, talking about their loss and a grace period for grieving and their ability to go home
-meet Akio outside nurseâs office and see through his nonchalant, victorious act
-are outside the school late at sunset and they see All Might; he tells him not to give up, that they need heroes like him and Yoshi, true heroes and then he walks away (foreshadow All Mightâs decision to choose Izuku as next One For All?)
-Akio breaks down on his knees and Rin tries to calm him but all of them are shedding varying degrees of tears; Rin breaks down, too
-Rin reveals that heâs made effort to prevent himself being attached to them because they want to be heroes and people fucking die doing this shit (dun dun dun! Big emotional reveal! Wow!); (âDammit, why does it still hurt?!â); guilty because Yoshi probably died not knowing how important he really was to Rin
-Izuku has a flashback of the first time he ever saved something; a bird that fell out of its nest; birth of Yoshi, his âmoralityâ; goes over every interaction he had with Yoshi in his life in a split second and he discovers that Yoshi was Hero from when he was little, not Akio, like they all thought
-they hear Yoshi in their head; Izuku tries to summon Yoshi and it works; happy reunion, tears everywhere: Yoshi legit thought he was dead (comic relief, sorta)
-discovery that Yoshi is the true hero in Izuku, the one that wants to save lives and make the world better, as opposed to Aiko who likes the thrill, action and glory; Heâs just the brave one with the dream
-Akio has an interesting reaction to the news that Yoshi is the Hero in Izuku and not him; he doesnât know how to react to that
-a new thing about his quirk has been discovered; you can't kill a side without killing Izuku (total cop-out but I hope itâs still emotional and doesnât ruin the story)
-they go home, something in their relationship different than before; discovery of Rinâs ability to care and his confession of being afraid to care; Yoshi's connection with everyone; they all admit they care about each other, even Akio to Rin but there's still issues to sort out there
-Izuku discover the next morning that he could hear Yoshi in his head when he's not physically manifested
-the psychic manifestation of their quirk is developing; questions about why he can't talk to the others in his head arise
Act 3
-Theyâre leaving Recovery Girlâs office the day of Sports Festival Announcement, Izuku, Akio and Yoshi get hella pumped now that Akio can fight again while Satoshi struggles to understand why theyâre so excited for the event; says so during lunch (fun fact: they each have a different favorite food)
-Ochako asks Yoshi where he got his adorable as hell bento box again; Rin gives him the death glare; Izuku and Akio notice that itâs the second time he does this but brush it off
-Izuku and Akio mention how they hope to get first place and that theyâll need to practice their movesets to get better and stand a chance; Satoshi makes it clear that he doesnât think theyâll get in the one on one rounds
-Izuku and Satoshi get in an argument at lunch; Izuku just wants support from Satoshi for once and wants to make his chances of being a good hero higher; winning first in the sports festival will get him recognized
-Izuku knows that he isnât anyone special or significant like he is in the show and heâs hoping this will change that
-Satoshi tells him that he doesnât understand why he wants to become a hero in the first place; âYou can save just as much, even more lives, by becoming an engineer or doctor than becoming something as presumptuous as those self-proclaimed heroes you idolize so much.â
-Izuku and Satoshi are no longer on speaking terms in the two weeks of training for the festival
-Izuku decides that he will win the sports festival with or without him
-Day of festival comes and Izuku wins the race in first like the anime and fares maybe a bit better in the cavalry battle; only Akio and Rin helping out, but they butt heads a lot
-Satoshi is watching within the depths of Izukuâs consciousness; watches him struggle throughout the cavalry battle and race but doesnât help out of spite; slowly and slowly becoming more aware and more self-thinking within Izuku as he watches him struggle through Hitoshiâs battle; snaps when he sees Izuku barely able to dodge some of Todorokiâs first shots when he tried to end the battle with the massive ice blast; Satoshi is awakened and suddenly aware of himself in Izukuâs mind
-(Flashback to Satoshiâs birth) first inkling of Logic was born during the creation of the first hero notebook, finally fully realized in the first notebook where Izuku actually began breaking down certain tactics instead of just writing them down and going through alternative strategies and criticisms; the infamous âmutteringâ
-Satoshi begins speaking to Izuku in his mind and gives him a strategy to have Todoroki exhaust his ice power by dodging the blasts with some help from precisely-timed appearances from the other Sides to propel him in certain directions at a certain timing but the Side that propels him has to be hit by the blast, since they havenât mastered the half-second, quick version of it; at a certain point, Satoshi stops directly talking to Izuku because, since theyâre psychically connected now, Satoshi just thinks it and Izuku and the rest just know what heâs trying to tell him; they bring him to close quarters in hand to hand with Todoroki but Todoroki gets desperate and uses his flames to blast him away, which Satoshi warned Izuku was a possibility and that they should be prepared to lose if that happened; this completes the link between Satoshi and the rest; Izuku gets gets the place that he got in the anime
-Todoroki hates Izuku for making him desperate enough to use his fire; Izuku never got to Todoroki about it being his power, not his fatherâs
-after matches, Satoshi tells Izuku to speak to him physically; Satoshi tells him that he doesnât understand him and his recklessness, his need to become a hero; he tells him that he doesnât understand but that he will help him become the greatest hero he can be
-Brushes off the emotions as best as he could
-Few weeks, Izukuâs recognized as the one in the second to last round and being so resourceful with a non flashy quirk; Akio is relishing it
-small note about the Sides healing along with Izuku because they got pretty fucked up by Todoroki
-Some domestic scenes of training and teamwork; more smooth with Satoshi and Yoshi because of the completed link; can do the split second propelling technique theyâve been developing with those two; Rin and Akio are still on the outside
-Yoshi gets scraped pretty bad when Akio and Rin fail to catch Yoshi during training because of their incompatibility and Akio feels guilty; finds Rin in the kitchen that night while Izuku is studying with Satoshi; finds out Rin is the one that makes Yoshiâs bento boxes and Rin has him swear that he wonât tell any of the others he does this; Akio asks him why heâs doing it tonight since he doesnât always do it and Rin admits that he feels bad for letting Yoshi fall earlier; Akio says heâll keep his secret, but offers to help with the stove work because Rin looks uncomfortable around the stove while he is frying the octopus sausages; Rin decorates extra cute since he feels bad for Yoshi getting hurt
-small bonding moment where Akio realizes he knows how to cook because, while the others were partying it up with Tomue, Rin was hanging out with his mom, helping make lunch and dinner (thinks about one time when Akio complimented his mom on a bowl of beef teriyaki that he loved and his mom was gonna tell him something that sounded like she was saying that she didnât make it but Rin cut her off, eyes pleading her to not say anything; no one notices the small blush when Akio goes on and on about how good the teriyaki bowl is); begs Rin to make him some more beef teriyaki and Rin shoves him away, saying that the bonding moment is over but after this point, theyâre on more friendly terms
-Day of internship picking starts and Izuku chooses to apply for a clone hero but is surprised when All Might chooses him as an intern
-Akio, Yoshi and Izuku fanboy the fuck out and Rin and Satoshi are all like âthis has to be a mistakeâ but for different reasons; Rin thinks All Might would never intentionally choose them because nobody would want to choose them as an intern; Satoshi just thinks it was a mistake with paperwork
-find out it isnât a joke when All Might goes to them during lunch and talks to them personally about his life and why he wants to be a hero
-Izuku tells him his answer and how Yoshi is kinda Izukuâs heroic soul personified; Akioâs still butthurt by this but doesnât deny it because he knows itâs true
-Lunch ends and Ochako and Iida pester him about the meeting; Izuku tells them what they talked about
-Day of internships begin and All Might takes them out on a three hour patrol before going out to eat with them; tells them he just wants to get to know them and no villain attacks happened so he doesnât need to waste much energy
-All Might brings them to his apartment after dinner; Izuku and Yoshi are taking in his apartment as avid fans would and Akio is still gushing over him while Rin and Satoshi just chill out; Rinâs using the Tamagotchi
-All Might orders out and they have dinner; Rin criticizes the rice balls they got and Satoshi makes the smart remark of âIâd like to see you attempt to make some.â; Akio sends Rin a knowing smirk and Rin glares at him
-All Might calls the night off short because he could feel himself losing the energy to keep his form; sort of startles Izuku, but they accept it and go to bed
-Next day they wake up early and find that All Might is still in his room, but his door is locked; Rin finds it suspicious, Satoshi just mildly so, but ultimately sides with Izuku, Yoshi and Akio when they say he just likes his privacy and heâs a hero so there might be some attempts on his life
-Out of money and out of options, Akio settles for volunteering to make omelettes, since heâs seen Rin make some and thought âwhy the hell not?â and fails horribly; Rin decides to let the group know that he likes to cook and he can cook well when he sees Akio try to make omelettes the second time and cuts in before things can get too bad; ties his hair back with a black handkerchief that he keeps in his pocket for âfashionable purposesâ
-All Might gets out of the room around eleven and sees them all eating breakfast, talking pretty easily in his dining room; tells them he expected them to be asleep still, but this will be revealed later to be a lie since he heard them up and changed into his All Might form; compliments Rin on his cooking and Rin blushes cause he deep, deep, deeep down inside, heâs still an All Might fan and All Might just complimented his cooking; Izuku and Akio see this and get weirded out (âI didnât know Rin was capable of being flustered.â)
-All Might tells them the plan for the day: visit some kids at a childrenâs hospital and then go on patrol around a certain, defined section of the city then have lunch, then patrol the second part of the city; tells Izuku he might have to take frequent bathroom breaks because he hasnât been feeling well these past few days; end of the day, heâs going to be cleaning the beach that he cleans in the anime and tells him his goal is to clear the horizon before the week of the internship ends
-Akio asks him why theyâre spending time with kids and cleaning up a beach after only spending two or three hours patrolling; All Might tells him that to be a hero, you donât need to fight villains, you need to do whatâs right and good for the world
-Satoshi asks for some clarity on the symptoms heâs experiencing and lists off several illnesses it can be but All Might brushes it off shakily
-This system, somehow, succeeds for the first few days; All Might assessed Izukuâs behavior with the children, even Rinâs, whoâs been cordial; saw him help out with a few elderly looking for help with carrying things; watches the boys working together during the beach clean up and notices that Rin and Akio seem to get along better, still bicker though; takes a lot of bathroom breaks
-End of the day, All Might calls it a night at the beach and head to the apartment but then the Hosu attack happens
-All Might goes and tells Izuku to stay put but Izuku decides to head on there anyway on a bike, since the city theyâre in is close to Hosu; calls all the Sides to himself
-While on his way to the fight, Izuku passes the alley with Iida and Stain; interferes immediately when he sees Iida pinned and sends location to Todoroki like in the anime; Todoroki shows up but he doesnât consider Izuku a friend in this world
-Yoshi and Satoshi take Native and Iida out of the scene while Todoroki, Akio, Izuku and Rin stay and Satoshi feeds Izuku possible strategies in their heads; Midoriya gets paralyzed and Satoshi is left to work with Rin and Akio
-Todoroki gets paralyzed and Rin and Akio are left; Hero Killer deems Akio a fake hero because he just wants the title, making Akio have a small crisis ( âEven youâre more of a hero than I amâ Akio to Rin) have to settle differences and work together during the Rin/Akio teamwork, it becomes something close to yin and yang; defense and offense; Rin defends, Akio attacks
-Remembers birth of âHeroâ and âAnxietyâ; remembers that they were born at the same time; Akio was born the time that Izuku stood up to Kacchan; Rin manifested that same moment, which is the first time he was really afraid of Kacchan; all his doubt and fear and inferiority almost made him not stand up to Kacchan but Hero hyped him up and made him brave enough to stand up to him; was scared to stand up to him but he did; Akio and Rin were wrestling for dominance in that instance when he was crying and shaking but still standing strong
-they link with Midoriya at the same time when heâs able to move again; bond between all of them is complete and they all sense it
-Rin, Akio and Izuku work in perfect harmony (do the split second summoning technique with Izuku and each other), knowing what each of them are thinking; Yoshi and Satoshi can see whatâs going on and help in their place protecting Iida and Native far away; Yoshi helps Iida with his crisis, gets him moving; Satoshi tells the rest heâs messaged All Might about the situation and he should be there soon if he sees it, though he could be busy with whatever disaster is happening further away (keep in mind here, Izuku didnât see the Nomus)
-All Might comes in later while Akio is incapacitated and Rin, Izuku, and Todoroki are keeping him at bay; cuts the fight short when Stain tries to jump him
-Restrain Stain with the rope and All Might reprimands the students for doing something so reckless and dangerous; other heroes show up; All Might is staring at Izuku the whole time and he can feel his gaze
-Tell them about the fabricated story and to not tell others about that night; goes back to the apartment with All Might and itâs all quiet since Izuku brought the Sides back to himself
-All Might starts to steam up and Izuku starts freaking out but Toshinori tells him to ignore it and explains his quirk and why itâs so powerful and reveals his true form by the time heâs done with his explanation; has Izuku sit down with him and he tells him that Izuku is a true hero and that heâs what the world needs; he wonât be there for very long and One for All needs to be passed on to a worthy predecessor; tells Izuku he wants to pass his power onto him
-Izuku short-circuits and passes out
End of this story because Iâm a sucker for cliffhangers. Figures that my first post would be the longest thing ever.

F.A.Q
Why didnât you draw an answer for the ask I sent you?
Itâs important to understand that while asks are a fun thing for me to do occasionally, and a fun thing for yall to see: this is not an ask blog. Ideally I want there to be more pictures/comics/other content than ask answers at any given time on here. The thing is I get a LOT of them, often every time I answer one or post art of a character people send in 2-3 more. Between that I get a steady trickle of them constantly even when I donât post. I could potentially spend all my time drawing ask answers but thatâs not what I need to use my time for. If you send it off anon Iâll try to think of a verbal response at least if I donât draw a response. If itâs on anon, your rolling the dice for the chance of a picture, Iâll just be honest with you here. Â
Canât you just make a separate ask blog then?
I do not have nearly enough time to further split up between running this main, and a potential competently new art blog. It wouldnât be a smart use of my energy. Iâm sorry.
Do you do art trades/requests?
Iâm usually really stretched for time outside of my full-time job and other family/life obligations so itâs rare that I find the time to do trades. Usually I feel bad about them since Iâm always getting my half done way later. I appreciate the genuine interest, but itâs just not really a feasible thing for me for the most part. As far as requests go I rarely ever do them, even if they have to do with my own characters. Youâre welcome to send an ask suggesting something but there is ZERO guarantee Iâll draw it, just understand that.Â
Are you open for commissions?
I currently am not. Usually when I open I do a quick âheads upâ post with a hard date, followed on that date by the official opening post with all the info. Youâll have plenty of forewarning before I do. I also do substantial warnings before I close.
What art materials do you work with?
I actually answered already that in a previous ask right [here]!
What digital program(s) do you use?
Photoshop Creative Suite 3 (CS3) is the only one I use. Itâs what I use to do my coloring, digital screen-tones, and sometimes text and speech bubbles.Â
Could you do a tutorial on how you do [insert technique here]?
Iâm flattered that you think my techniques or style are something worth emulating or trying to learn from, but at the moment I donât really have the time to put together a comprehensive step-by-step of my artistic process. This is exacerbated by the fact that half of said process is done traditionally instead of digitally anyway so I couldnât really screen cap stuff. Thanks for asking though, who knows, I might have time to try and slap something together in the future!Â
Can I tag your artwork/characters as âkinâ or âmeâ?
Sure, thatâs fine. Itâs always important to ask though since not everyone is OK with it, so thanks for doing that. It doesnât bother me at all though, so go ahead and tag away.Â
I really like your art and you seem like a nice person; could we be friends?
Iâm very grateful that through my art and my interactions on here that I come across as a kind and friendly person. Unfortunately Iâm also a very strong introvert and I can gas out on the energy to talk to folks very easily. Iâm grateful and so happy for the friends I have but I also have a LOT already too hahaha. It should also be stated that for anyone; introvert or extrovert, making friends completely depends on how you and the person connect or âclickâ. Some people you grow close to naturally and well...some you just donât. Thereâs no way to force it, and thereâs no way to just decide it. If I decline a request to share messenger info or to chat with you please donât take it as offense.Â
Do you accept fan art?
Yes I do! I only ask that you donât involve my characters with any NSFW scenarios that have minors (under the age of 18), or any scenarios that involve or employ elements of racism, sexism, or transphobia. You better show me when you finish it though!
Can I make my own fan character from one of your races/worlds?
Go for it. I donât have any hard rules or locks on any of my races since fan characters arenât really canon within my stories anyway. Just like with the fanart, I only ask to see them when theyâre done!
What are your inspirations?
Thereâs nothing wrong with that question in itself, but I donât really know where to even start in answering it. Without being too long winded: it was mainly a beginning base of anime when i was younger that later evolved into several amateur/semi-pro/pro artists on this website and others. I donât have too many published/professional American/European folks I could rattle off the top of my head. If you want a starters guide on who some of those online people are you can slog through the icons of people that I follow to the right on my blogs main page.Â
How do I get a style like yours? / How did you get your art style?
It is absolutely imperative to understand as an artist that style is less of an aesthetic object, like a shirt that you put on and wear around, and is more like the personality of the person wearing the shirt. An artists style is inseparable from their identity. Itâs a result of thousands of hours of absorbing media subconsciously, integrating what they like, and discarding what they donât. Itâs shaped by what they see, what they have access to, and what they donât. Itâs shaped by their surroundings, and upbringing. Explaining to you how I got my current style is as daunting as answering the question âHow did you become the person you are today?â
My style will not be the same tomorrow as it is today. Itâs something thatâs organic and constantly growing and slowly changing (as it should be). As long as you keep exposing yourself to new things, new experiences, places, people, techniques, concepts, media, ect. you will in time have your own style. Â
When are you going to do some actual comics and where are you gonna post them?
GOOD QUESTION, AND I DONâT BLAME YOU FOR ASKING. Ever since I finally finished commissions at the end of 2017 and got some owed art out of the way during the first month of January, Iâm working on clearing out some of these asks with some answers. After that Iâll be refocusing on finishing Step-Monster Vol. II first which will probably get put up on my Deviantart (Donât worry. Iâll put up a link here to it when itâs done). I donât have a hard date for it right now but Iâm aiming for late summer possibly, since Iâm trying to do the entire last Volume II with all itâs chapters in one big go.Â
After that I wanna start tackling small one-shorts at first before moving on to longer-form stories. By that point I plan to have a dedicated website for them up and a Patreon going maybe too!Â
Pineapple on pizza: yes or no?
Yes, and if you say Iâm wrong weâre gonna fight.Â

ATTENTION: If You ever wondered about âStorage Auctionsâ and are looking to make great money in this struggling economy we may have the solution for you in the most important letter youâll read all day. . .
Storage Auctions revealed in this new tell-all about tactic winning auction tips and youâll get them all here â & win every time . . . Even if You Never Went to an Auction Before
Date: From: Lorenzo Lee
I f you are headed out the door to your boring job or off to the unemployment line⌠STOP â if for just a moment, and read what I have to tell you about storage auctions and how they transform lives all over the country.
You are going to fit into a category of the following people: retirees, those about to retire, unemployed, employed but bored, underpaid or looking for something where you can work from the comfort of your own home. Why wouldnât you want to manage your home, be able play with your kids and not worry about how much gong out to eat costs for the family?
If youâve just lost your job and you were standing in an unemployment line wondering how you are going to take care of your family; youâre stumped, clueless and at your wits end⌠What can you do in this economy? Even if you can find a job, youâll be lucky if it pays half what you were making.
It wasnât that long ago that I was in those same dire straits. Dodging calls from bill collectors and even hiding my car around the block so it wouldnât get repossessed. But Mom always told me, âWhen one door closes, another opens.â
I never understood what she meant, until now. You see, even in this bad economy with millions and millions of people out of work or stuck in jobs they canât stand and donât pay enough to live on, there are still opportunities being created every day. Big Opportunities. REALLY BIG OPPORTUNITIES!
It was just a little while ago that one of those Big Opportunities came knocking at my door. And now itâs knocking on yours. What I am about to show you is not MLM or some get rich quick scheme. You will have to work at it, but with simple instruction and our Secret Weapons youâll be able to get your slice of the money pie. Best of all you will once again have a reliable, stable income month in and month out.
I know you are thinking you will need a special skill or a specialized degree. All I have is a high school diploma, but you donât even need that! And you wonât have to borrow a bunch of money to get started either!
This business is based on a very simple formula that has made millions of people rich for thousands of years.
Itâs a very simple concept; youâve probably even heard it before. Itâs just four little wordsâŚ
BUY LOW, SELL HIGH!
STOP! This is not some bs stock market or investment scheme. They require far more risk than I would be comfortable with, especially in this economy. They also require very specialized skills and knowledge. Not to mention a LOT of money to get started. Nope, this is different. Completely different.
Imagine a business where:
You donât need CREDIT!
You donât need a lot of money up front to get started.
You donât need a college degree, special certifications or specialized knowledge.
You donât have to take a lot of risks.
You donât need an office, any employees or special equipment.
As the economy gets worse, your prospects get better!
You can start with less than a hundred bucks.
You donât need a college degree, just a tiny bit of instruction and our Secret Weapons.
You set your own schedule and sell your merchandise from your own kitchen table or out of your garage.
You can do this ANYWHERE, because there are 30,000+ storage facilities all over the United States and Canada (We will even give you access to this list!)
You can be young, old, retired, in-between work, guys or girls and make good money, lots of it! ANYONE CAN DO THIS!
Imagine going to a storage auction, winning the auction with $50 and finding $2500 worth of merchandise for you to sell. You donât have to just imagine it, you can do it! With our easy training course and Secret Weapons youâll know exactly when, where and how to turn a unit into a great income as often as you want! This happens every day across all 50 states and Canada. In fact, it is not unusual for a self storage auction unit to be won with a single dollar, but inside the unit are things you could sell for several thousand dollars.
What kinds of items can you find in a Self Storage Auction?
Frankly, just about anything! For Example:
Cars (vintage cars, 4x4s, sports cars, motorcycles and RVs too!)
Boats (fishing boats, jet skis, watercraft of all kinds)
Tools (professional and typical homeowners stuff)
Specialized Business Equipment (from gyms, salons, restaurants, construction, etc.)
Collectibles (Toys, Books, Coins, Cards, Antiques)
Hollywood Memorabilia ⌠items found in storage auctions:
Nicholas Cageâs Stolen $1Million Comic book
Madonnaâs personal photos and signed work
Paris Hiltonâs personal journals, videos and photos . . . more Hollywood treasures are found everyday!
Could you imagine stumbling onto the motherload of all Hollywood memorabilia or even one prop once used in a movie? What could you do with that kind of money?
With all of the possible valuables available at a self storage unit auction, itâs possible to replace a full time income from only a few hours work each week!
But donât take my word for it. There are popular TV shows on major networks devoted to Self Storage Auctions. Keep in mind these shows are entertaining but they also show what can happen to someone who knows what they are doing in the storage auction business.
Inside the Best Self Storage Auction Course you will learn:
How to spot a great self storage unit auction quickly. (pg 28)
Doing these few things wrong can can land you in court! (pg 112)
How to bid on a unit and make others back off! (pg 65)
A simple, legal tool to save $$$$ on your taxes (pg 46)
What you MUST know BY LAW⌠BEFORE you bid! (pg 104)
The difference between a bad locker and an early Christmas (pg 84)
How to go to a storage auction fully prepared, unlike the other bidders. (pg 76)
How to avoid getting stuck with a unit full of junk you canât sell or worse, have to pay big bucks to dispose! (pg 44)
How to reduce competition and lower your winning bid! (pg 127)
How to sell your items quick & get CASH in your hand right after the auction! (pg 81)
Why am I willing to share these secrets with you?
First, since I was a little boy I was taught âwhat goes around, comes aroundâ and âif you help others, someone will be there to help youâ and of course âDo unto othersâŚâ Itâs kind of ingrained in me to share.
Second, I know what it feels like to be one step away from living in my minivan. Collections, bankruptcy, eating PB&J (without any PB⌠or J!). Iâve heard my family telling me, âYouâve got to get a job!â âYou need to make some money!â, or my favorite, âYou need to make more moneyâ⌠only there werenât any jobs for 50 year olds without a college degree, even if you did have 25 years experience in construction.
But then this opportunity came along for me as it is for you now. You donât need a lot of money to make money. You can start this with less than $100. And truth be told, you really donât have to work all that hard either.
Letâs imagine that youâve completed the course and located an auction. Youâve got $150 in cash, youâre a little nervous, but thatâs ok because it means youâre ready to go since you know that youâve completed the course and you know exactly what you want to do as soon as you step foot on the lot.
The Auctioneer comes out of the office and leads you and 4 others to unit G167. Sure, the others are there for the same reason as you, but they havenât been through the course, they donât have the knowledge you gained from the handouts⌠but you have. Youâre here because you know which auctions to go to and which ones arenât worth the trouble.
As the Auctioneer opens the door to the unit you notice the others getting excited, one lady is even bouncing up and down clapping her hands as everyone begins to see the unit is stuffed to the brim with computer monitors and other electronic gear. You allow yourself a wry smile, you learned on page 35 of the course that many times storage units are used as âdumpsâ for broken, worthless electronic equipment to avoid paying the high disposal fees⌠fees that the âwinnerâ of this units auction may have to pay. In the time it takes you to finish this thought the currently happy lady has âwonâ the auction for $250.
Secret: If you can get the other bidders to spend all their money on crappy units, you can walk away with a fantastic unit for little to no money as they run out of funds.
As the Auctioneer opens the door to the next unit you notice the others pointing at the boxes, card tables and mattresses piled up with garbage bags. Unlike the last unit they seem to grumble a bit, but you see a sliver of wood you know to be a china cabinet peeking out from behind the mattresses. Lots of fine woodwork in what little you can see. It might even be an antiqueâŚ
You get startled a bit as the Auctioneer breaks the silence with âThe bidding opens at $25.â No one moves, and the auctioneer calls out again, only this time he lowers the opening bid for fear of not selling the unit today. âLets get the bids going, whoâll give me $10?â he criesâŚ
âŚafter a short moment you give a wave of your hand at the Auctioneer. Heâs a good Auctioneer and soon youâre bidding against a âhappy ladyâ. You know from the course that doing this one thing will make her back down⌠She does, and before you know it you hear â$50 going once, $50 going twice, Sold to bidder #67.â $50⌠to bidder #67⌠holy crap thatâs you!
Your heart is racing but you manage to keep it together long enough to pay the Auctioneer and lock your unit. Finally the auction is over and you go back to the unit you purchased.
That china cabinet might be worth $200, maybe more. But first youâre going to have to go through everything else to get a better look at it. Itâs mostly old clothes and the usual âkitchen itemsâ but one of the boxes is quite heavy and has some collectable memorabilia from an old TV show and another some baseball cards from the 1970âs. Youâre feeling pretty good, it looks like you might be able to at least double your cash from just what youâve found so far!
Finally you can move those mattressesâŚ
You find yourself having to lean against the side of the unit for fear of falling down.
The China Cabinet is gorgeous. Worth at least $700 and based on the glass style it does look antique so it could be a lot more. But thatâs not why youâre having trouble standing. You see, itâs full to the brim, with Depression Glass. Youâve seen a single piece of Depression Glass sell for $25 and there must be 50 or 60 pieces in this China Cabinet!
Luckily for you, our BSA Auction checklist has you totally prepared for thisâŚ
Following the few simple rules of the course, and the âmembers onlyâ checklist, your grin got even bigger as your favorite antique dealer handed you $500 before he took the China Cabinet away. All packed up, you hurry home with everything youâve found. After an evening of research (using some of our special tips and bonus material on valuation) youâve learned that the cards and TV show stuff are worth an easy $400âŚ
But the reason your wife is whistling as she is preparing for a night on the town, the first time in months⌠is because the antique dealer also handed you $1400 for all that Depression Glass!
This is not just a fantasy. Finds like this happen almost every day all over the USA. Itâs happened to me, it can happen to you. All that is left for you to decide is will it be a fantasy for you or will you take the necessary action to make it your reality?
I know that times are tough right now. Spending anything is a major decision. But I am going to eliminate all of the risk for you.

This week marks the anniversary of the death of animator, producer William Hanna (July 14, 1910 â March 22, 2001). For me that can only mean one thing â itâs time to reminisce about one of my all-time favorite cartoons â and sitcoms, for that matter â The Flintstones.
William Hanna and partner Joseph Barbera became one of the truly legendary pairings in animation history. Together Hanna and Barbera created The Flintstones and a slew of other iconic characters that have been hugely popular and influential since the 1950s. To show their sustaining power hereâs an entry on DC Comics from last year focusing on new comic books to be released based on reimaginings of several Hanna-Barbera characters and stories. Iâm not much into comic books so this launch may have already happened. As I perused a collection of classic Hanna-Barbera comic books though I realized Iâd absolutely love to own some of them. Practically every single classic character had his own comic book series with the Parade series featuring all of them.
Anyway â the characters that launched Hanna-Barbera Productions in the 1950s include Yogi Bear and his Emmy Award-winning series (1958-1962), Huckleberry Hound and Quick Draw McGraw. In the 1960s they brought us The Jetsons in a prime-time slot during the 1962-1963 season, The Magilla Gorilla Show, Ricochet Rabbit and Droop-a-Long, Punkinâ Puss and Mushmouse, Scooby-Doo and many more.
Of all the shows produced by Hanna-Barbera, however, my absolute favorite is The Flintstones, a sit-com-style animated series influenced by The Honeymooners, another show I adore. I grew up watching Fred, Wilma, Barney and Betty along with their prehistoric surroundings and still enjoy watching them whenever time and opportunity allow.
The creators of âThe Flintstonesâ holding a drawing of Fred Flintstone on August 1, 1980
The collaboration between William Hanna and Joseph Barbera began in 1940 when both were working in the animation department at MGM Studios. The two worked on Tom and Jerry cartoons with the first being Puss Gets the Boot (1940). When MGM closed its cartoon department two decades later Hanna and Barbera decided to continue the collaboration with a focus on television.
Having gained a solid reputation in theatrical shorts, Hanna and Barbera approached Columbiaâs Screen Gems television studio with a storyboard for a cartoon about the adventures of dog and cat pals Ruff and Reddy. At that point Tom and Jerry cartoons were already enjoying success on television by way of recycled theatrical vehicles so the careers of Hanna and Barbera were on solid ground. The Ruff and Reddy Show followed suit in the popularity department and the two animators were well on their way to making history.
Ruff and Reddy
In 1957 Hanna-Barbera launched The Huckleberry Hound Show, the first cartoon series to receive an Emmy award. Huckleberry Hound marked a huge step in the careers of Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera in several ways. Huckleberry served as a platform for the animators to introduce many characters, several of which became stars in their own series later. In addition, Huckleberry Hound proved a huge hit with audiences, but not the demographic one would think. In 1960 a survey revealed that more adults than children were watching Huckleberry Hound on a regular basis, which prompted Hanna-Barbera to focus its efforts on a primetime animated series. Enter The Flintstones. YABBA DABBA DOO!
The Flintstones ran from 1960 to 1966 and proved such a big success with audiences of all ages that Hanna-Barbera created a space-age family to join them in prime-time. That family, of course, is The Jetsons. I enjoy The Jetsons as well, but The Flintstones are the bomb diggity with their stone-age âmodernâ appliances that talk and all else that make it a terrific comedy for people of all ages. The premise of the show parodied popular domestic situation comedies, a familiar, winning formula with the added bonus of skits based on the prehistoric theme. One of my favorite gags is when you see the characters step over a crack in the ground that millions of years later was to become the Grand Canyon.
You might enjoy this brief video, a history of The Flintstones:
Through the years la creme de la creme of voice actors worked on The Flintstones, including the legendary Mel Blanc and radio and television great, Bea Benaderet. Take a look at a complete list of the talents who voiced these characters here. I should note that â for me â the series lost some of its steam in its fifth season when The Great Gazoo started appearing. Iâm not such a big fan of the alien in Bedrock. Gazoo was exiled to Earth because he created a doomsday machine on his planet. To me that story line is The Flintstones version of jumping the shark, but The Great Gazoo is voiced by favorite Harvey Korman who also voiced several other characters throughout the seriesâ run.
1960: The Flintstones voices: Fred Flintstone â Alan Reed Wilma Flintstone â Jean Vander Pyl Betty Rubble â Bea Benaderet Barney Rubble â Mel Blanc
As pop culture icons The Flintstones rank among the most recognizable in the world. They are still referenced in television shows and animated series, like The Simpsons and even became the subject of a hit song by The B-52s who recorded a version of the seriesâ theme song.
The characters in The Flintstones have also been used in the marketing of different products since they first aired. Among these, vitamins, cereal and beer. I canât resist sharing the following classic commercial, which aired during the seriesâ first season. Here we see the characters advocating for Winston Cigarettes, the showâs sponsor on ABC. Iâm not advocating smoking, by the way.
Testament to the popularity of The Flintstones is the number of Hollywood and television stars that voiced themselves and/or their characters on the show through the years. My favorite episodes are the ones that featured Hollywood stars. I post the examples I could find below, but among the popular personalities that guest-starred on the series were Ed Sullivan, Elizabeth Montgomery, Raymond Burr and Jack Dempsey. Click on each of the following movie star names to watch a clip:
Ann-Margrock
Stoney Curtis
Rock Quarry
Jimmy Darrock
Unfortunately, I couldnât find a clip of my favorite of these, Gary Granite, but hereâs his picture from episode 6 of season 1, âThe Monster from the Tar Pitsâ
Another favorite is when Fred does the âBedrock Twitchâ
My favorite cross-over was when Darren and Samantha Stevens from Bewitched appeared on The Flintstones:
Can you blame me for loving this stuff? When classic greats cross-over into classic greats itâs a mash-up made in heaven.
After The Flintstonesâ initial run on ABC concluded the show became even more popular as part of Saturday morning cartoon line-ups and in syndication. Thatâs when I ran into them. Perhaps nothing illustrates The Flintstones popularity, however, than the number of movie adaptations â both animated and live-action â and the spin-offs it begat starting with Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm (1971-1972 and 1975-1976) followed by The Flintstones Comedy Hour (1972-1974) and finally The Flintstones Kids, which appeared in 1986 and ran through 1989.
Without a doubt, The Flintstones is one of the all-time great classic television shows. I put it up there with The Munsters on my list of favorites and Iâm sure millions feel just as I do about it. Itâs as funny a situation comedy as many consider its live-action counterparts with great scripts and voice acting the likes of which no longer exist. Itâs time you revisit this legendary and enjoyable series. I need to spend more time with them myself.

chapter 11
So here we are, meeting John Frusciante. Who could have ever imagined it? I didnât exactly sign up for this, did I? Probably not, but I couldnât have told I would become so acquainted with the whole band either. And I was the one who offered to go with Flea, so yeah, in some kind of way I might have signed up for this.
John exchanges a glance with my friend while coming to our table, and then stares at me for a bit longer. I suddenly feel shy, intimidated by his presence, and awkward, especially knowing that he didnât expect anyone else besides Flea, and thus suspecting Iâm not exactly welcome here. But oh well, I had to calm him down, and Iâm willing to handle that collateral effect.
Flea jumps up all of a sudden, letting go all the energy he seemed to be containing all this time weâve been sitting down, and quickly approaches him.
âJohn!!â Heâs trying to be formal, trying not to raise the voice too much, trying not to allow his excitement show, but he doesnât really succeed. John breaks into a wide smile, and they hug, so I guess theyâre in good terms. But when I stand up to greet him, Flea remembers Iâm there, and half-apologizes. âIâm sorry I didnât tell you I wasnât alone⌠I had to beg Amy to come with me because I was a bit nervous about it allâ he adds, slightly blushing.
A bit bewildered, John stammers. âUm, no problem, of course -itâs a pleasure⌠Amy, right?â he waits for me to introduce myself.
âYep. Actually, itâs Amanda Harris, but everyone calls me Amy.â
âSheâs our camera operatorâ Flea adds.
âUh, I see.â
Well, at least John looks as uncomfortable as me.
He sits at the head of the table, avoiding the hypothetical situation in which he would have had to sit besides one of us. It seems like both Flea and John are happy to see each other, and at the same time they donât really know how to handle the situation. I would like to try and ease it all, but I realize itâs better not to open my mouth, at least not yet.
A waiter comes to our table, and by the way he asks John if he wants anything, he gives himself away; he looks unbelievably excited to know two of the Chilis are in his bar, even if one is not a Chili anymore, and the way he tries to hide it is almost funny to me. John asks for a gin & tonic just like me, and lets out a sigh when the waiter goes away.
âSoâŚâ Flea begins, tentatively. âHow is it that you came to the show tonight?â
âOhâ, John answers, inhibited. Seems like this will be a constant during the meeting⌠âLots of things aligned. I had to pay a visit to some relatives who live here, and I saw you were playing with JackâŚâ He stops himself and sighs. âOkay, I really donât know why I went to the concert. Maybe I was just curious.â
It seems like he has just admitted something he didnât want to, especially given that he wanted to end contact with the Chilis. Flea smiles an understanding smile, like heâs not gonna bug him more than that.
âWhat did you think about it then?â he asks.
âIt was good. Reallyâ, he adds when he sees Fleaâs slightly sceptical look, âI enjoyed it a great deal. Although Anthony needs to work a bit on his memory.â
The three of us chuckle. Itâs true, Anthony often forgets lyrics. I actually never asked him about this, I have never wondered why does that happen to him. I think I just assumed it, thought maybe it was a side effect of the drugs he took so often when he was young⌠but never confirmed it with him. Iâm now curious, and I make a mental note to ask him when I see him again.
âYouâre right. But overall? Iâm glad you liked it. Like, really, really glad you liked it.â
âI did.â
John smiles cordially. He makes it really hard to know if heâs uncomfortable here or if heâs truly enjoying it, even if itâs just a bit. I shouldnât worry about it, but Iâm still intrigued. His look is hard to decipher; I wonder what is he thinking, whatâs behind those eyes.
An awkward silence settles between us. We all keep avoiding each otherâs looks until the situation becomes almost funny, and we break into laughter.
âIâm sorryâ, Flea says, giggling. âItâs justâŚâ
âYeah, the situationâs a bit weirdâ John finishes.
âAnyway, how have you been doing lately?â
âWell, Iâve been rather laid-back these years, you know. I mean, Iâm not on the news like you, but you must have heard something.â
âYeah, Trickfinger and everything, isnât it?â
âElectronic music, yes. Iâve been able to experiment a lot, itâs been such a refreshing change.â
âThatâs awesome.â
âHow are you doing, by the way? Your children must have grown up so fast.â
...And just like that, they start chatting like a year hasnât gone by. Glasses empty, drinks refill, we all start to loosen up. John and Flea laugh, they get angry about things, they smile and they get serious too. Iâm there to see it, an unexpected witness of the reunion. But thatâs probably the one thing that doesnât click. They try to make me feel comfortable, and I take part on the conversation several times, but Iâm aware I am the one who doesnât belong here. I shouldnât have offered myself to come, Flea would have (and has) handled it perfectly on his own. And actually, Iâm fine being here, itâs just that I feel John would be more relaxed if I wasnât sitting with them. He doesnât mean it, of that Iâm sure. He isnât rude at all, heâs nice and kind and everything, but⌠thereâs something that doesnât fully make sense.
So when the meeting comes to an end, itâs about one in the morning and the bar is closing. Weâve talked so much (especially John and Flea, but eventually Iâve found my space within the conversation) weâre almost dead exhausted, even though weâve been sitting here for at least two hours. Three rounds of drinks are already down our throats, but although we could have gone on, we stopped there, as none of us didnât want to overdo it.
âSo, where are you staying?â John asks, while we put on our jackets (and coat, in my case). âYouâre in the same hotel, right?â
âYeah, weâre at the Windsor Courtâ, I answer.
âNot far from here, then.â
âDefinitely notâ, Flea smiles. And theyâre right: itâs barely five streets away from here. But as he immediately reveals, he has different plans. âBut, guys, I think the nightâs not over for me yet.â
John and I look at him like heâs gone crazy.
âHave you still got energy after a show and a two hour talk?â I canât believe it.
âProbablyâ, adds John once heâs thought for a quick second about it. âHeâs like that fucking Energizer rabbit.â
The truth inherent in that answer makes me laugh. Heâs completely right.
âYup. And Iâm so proud of itâ. Flea punches himself in the chest, in a comical demonstration of strength. Then he smirks and gets serious again. âNah, but really. Thereâs a gig at the Maple Leaf bar; the Rebirth brass band plays there every Tuesday night, and I know itâs too late -it started at eleven-, but I got friends there and⌠yeah. Wanna come?â
I think about it.
âUh, Flea, as much as Iâd like to see that brass bandâ, I explain, âIâm kinda tired and that fancy hotel bed seems a really, really comfy option, you know.â
The two men grin, and actually, John even joins me.
âI think Iâll pass too.â he says tactfully. âYou all know I prefer to go unnoticed, and the more time I spend with you the Chilis, the harder it will beâ
âThatâs right. You donât mind, donât you?â I ask, checking one last time if things are going the way theyâre supposed to go.
âOf course not, Amy. It will be yâall whoâll miss it!â he laughs.
âBlah, blah, blah. See you tomorrow morning, then. And have a good night!â
John and Flea take more time to say goodbye. They pat each other on the shoulder, smile a lot and end up hugging again.
âIt was amazing meeting you again, Johnâ, Flea says, clearly excited. âAnd thank you again for coming to the show. It was the best surprise ever.â
âAnytime. Thanks for the meeting too, Iâm glad youâre doing great.â
And so Flea goes away, bunny-hopping from one side of the street to the other. I smile cheerfully, happy for my friend to have John back. I hope this is some kind of re-start for them.
But thereâs something else. The Chili Peppersâ most famous ex-guitarist and I are now stranded on one of New Orleansâ French Quarter streets, and I donât know what am I supposed to do.
âUm, John⌠I think Iâll go back to the hotel. Where are you staying?â
âIâm at one of my cousinsâ house. Itâs in Dixon, a bit far from here, but once weâre at the hotel Iâll call a cab.â
âAre you seriously saying youâll walk me there? Thereâs no need forâŚâ
âCome on.â
I shut my mouth when he cuts me like that, impressed, and we start walking.
We barely talk during our way back, and Iâll admit it, itâs a bit uncomfortable sometimes, but in general, the route goes by without any complications. He seems at ease, though, so I let it be. When we reach the Windsor Court Hotel, I wait for him to call.
âGânight. Iâd need a cab in Tchoupitoulas with Gravier. Yeah, the Windsor. Thanks.â
Another moment of uneasy, awkward silence between the two of us. In the end, I decide to break it.
âIt was nice meeting youâ, I say. âReally nice.â
âYeah, Iâll agree on that. Iâm sorry if you felt a bit left out, itâs justâŚâ he tries to tousle his hair, which is actually too short to do that.
âDonât!â This time itâs me who cuts him, chuckling. I donât want him to apologize, I wasnât even supposed to be there⌠âYou were there to meet Flea, not an unknown cam operator who you didnât even expect to come.â
âYeah, but still.â
The lights of a car blind us, and a black and white cab pulls up on the street.
âAnyway, John⌠have a good night! And thanks for the meeting.â
âSameâ, he says while getting into the cab. âGoodnight!â
And like that, he shuts the door and the car drives away.
And I enter the hotel, go to my room, and fall asleep thinking of this day which just finished but I already consider one of the most curious Iâve had in months.

My interest in art started as a North Carolina kid fascinated with comic books. I spent much of my early teens trying unsuccessfully to emulate the comic artists of the day. But, I wasnât one of those kids who was drawing and painting from the day I could hold a pencil. I really wasnât interested at all until I was about 11 or 12.
Eventually, I took art classes in high school and considered art as one option for college and career. Of course, I chose something completely different because who does things the easy way? Within a few years though, even that career path â that of a newspaper writer and photographer â brought me back to art in the early days of computer graphics and desktop publishing.
While I donât do as much with graphics as I used to, it is still a part of my day job. Earlier this year, I created all the posters for the 2017-18 season for a local little theatre in a combination of traditional and digital techniques.
During those first few years in newspaper, and later in the printing industry, I didnât completely lose interest in traditional art. But it was more of a way to kill time than anything serious. Around 2004, I decided to get serious again and began exploring acrylics for a while. I found I preferred to use acrylics more like watercolors than oils and realized I was drawn more to the watercolors of other artists rather than other media. So, I tested the waters, so to speak, and havenât looked back.
Iâve loved cars since I bought my first one in the 1980âs. My fascination with them from an artistic standpoint â mostly the rolling sculpture of Detroitâs golden age in the 1950âs â started with the success of my first car painting in acrylics. Of course, shiny sheet metal, chrome reflections and rough rust are a very different story in watercolor. But once I figured out various techniques to get those textures right, I found it to be a lot of fun, especially rust.
So, Iâve got a lot of car paintings floating around. But, I see too many artists who seem to be one-trick ponies; they only ever paint one subject. Sure, they usually do that one subject very, very well. And, I understand they paint what they get paid to paint. But, I canât imagine they donât get bored.
I certainly get bored looking at the same thing over and over on their websites. Instead of falling into that trap, Iâve tried to explore other subjects â landscapes, figures, portraits, and still lifes. Iâve been especially successful with musical instruments, shoes, figures, and horror-related subjects. The last few years Iâve been concentrating on landscapes and portraits.
Iâm also trying to get away from photographic realism by studying the recent British Impressionist watercolorists, my favorite being John Yardley. Itâs too easy to get bogged down in details that donât tell the story of the painting in question. And, I see too many paintings in which everything in the image is razor sharp and finely detailed.
Having spent some time as a professional photographer, Iâm well aware of the ability of a well-crafted photo to direct the eye with depth of field, leaving unimportant portions of the image out of focus. Iâm trying to bring that capability and technique to my paintings, especially my landscapes. Itâs part of a technique Iâve taken to calling loose realism.
Thatâs really just another way of describing what most people are talking about then they use the word âpainterly.â In loose realism even main subjects need not be photographic to be convincing. Backgrounds and foregrounds can be loose, wet, and indistinct. One method I use for achieving this, and for forcing myself to see a reference photo more simply, is to use Photoshop or other programs to modify the photo, defocus some areas, obscure details, and often brighten colors.
One of the things that has always fascinated me about watercolor is how the simplest images often can be the most effective. That doesnât necessarily mean they were simple to create, though some are. It just shows that complexity, unerring detail, and edge-to-edge focus arenât a requirement for a pleasing and effective painting.
The biggest problem with loosening up is that most people, at least in my area, are more interested in photo-realism, especially when looking for car paintings and commissions. So, Iâm walking a tight rope between the looser paintings I want to do and the photo-realism the public wants, i.e. sometimes I too paint what I get paid to paint.
Technically, Iâm pretty straight-forward these days. In the past though, Iâve used a couple different, somewhat unusual techniques.
An example of Payneâs Gray underpainting
Early on I used a grisaille-type underpainting that I learned while using acrylics. I donât see many people using or even talking about this technique with watercolors, but I found it quite effective. To do this I painted what most people would consider a value study with a very thin, watered-down Payneâs Gray. Once I had a good grayscale painting done, I added transparent color washes.
Since Payneâs Gray is a staining color and I kept it very thin, it didnât lift when I added the later washes. If the underpainting was too heavy, though, it could have lifted and altered successive washes and made a real mess. I suppose any staining color can be used for the underpainting. But, a thin Payneâs Gray is nearly neutral, so the transparent colors laid on top are only affected in value, not color or hue. By the time I completed the painting, only I knew there was an underpainting layer.
An example of charcoal and watercolor
Another technique I had a lot of success with â and also learned while using acrylics â is using charcoal as an âunderpainting.â This technique starts by doing a complete, finished charcoal drawing of at least the main subject if not the entire image. I spray one thin coat of workable fixative over the charcoal drawing. It might sound counter-intuitive at first. But, without the fixative, youâd have a mess when you started adding watercolor washes.
Anyway, after I let the fixative gas out at least a couple hours, I painted with watercolor as normal. I had to lay it on a little more heavily. But, with practice and patience, watercolor will soak through the fixative and adhere to the paper.
I havenât used either of these techniques for a few years. These days Iâm just using good old Da Vinci paints (mostly) in a fairly limited palette of ultramarine blue, cobalt blue, phthalo blue, permanent rose quinacridone, a warm and cool red, a warm yellow, yellow ochre, raw umber, burnt Sienna, sepia, sometimes manganese blue, and neutral tint or Payneâs gray. No, I donât use a cool yellow because over time I found I just didnât use it. My color mixes just never went that direction. So, now I just donât bother.
Arches and Cansonâs Moulin du Roi 140 lb. in cold-pressed and rough are my favorite papers. In the brush department, Iâve used everything from natural sables and squirrels and faux sables and squirrels to natural/synthetic blends and full synthetics. But, right now Iâm really digging the super-cheap Snap! synthetics from Princeton. Iâve always liked a good amount of stiffness and spring. Snaps definitely cover that while also holding a lot of water/pigment.
Over the years, Iâve found that if I really wanted to get better, painting had to become an obsession. When Iâm not painting Iâm thinking about painting. The best advice I can give to someone just beginning with watercolor or any medium, or just wanting to get better, is to paint. Paint often. Paint every day. Paint something, anything, even if itâs just color swatches. The more you have a brush in your hand the more natural it will feel.
An example of a 5âx7â portrait painted during lunch hour at work
Actually, now that I think about it, color swatches are a great idea. Not only will they help with brush control and water control, youâll also learn how each color looks and feels with varying amounts of water. I keep one of Da Vinciâs full-pan paint boxes at work and spend a few minutes before work and at lunch every day painting small 5âx7â and 8âx10â figures, portraits and landscapes. Itâs great practice; itâs relaxing; and Iâve actually sold several of these paintings.
They arenât always quick; most take two or three days to complete. But, many of them are good finished paintings, not just sketches.
That also brings up another great aspect of watercolor; you can set up and clean up in a couple minutes making it easy to paint on a momentâs notice. As for me, some days those few minutes at lunch might be the only chance I have to get a brush wet â and that makes all the difference.
