the amount of megarod, starop, dratchet aus i have. i just think they all live in a house together and help each other out and are a family if that makes sense. i think because starscream and optimus are anti-social they probably are late to the party. like megatron, rodimus, ratchet and drift are living happy together and occasionally starscream and optimus come and visit them and eat with them and stay with them.

it's ratchet who convinces them to stay and they do. starscream is of course, and enigma at first to the group because he's not as close to them as optimus is. rodimus is weary of him, especially regarding him around megatron, and rodimus is just protective of megatron.

however, drift can vouch for starscream because they were close during the war, and obviously optimus loves him.

optimus gets to rekindle his realtionship with both ratchet and megatron, given those two are close to him. he gets to see how much they've grown and how close they've gotten together since being on the lost light. there was a part of optimus that felt sad, or almost in a funny way, jealous knowing that the two of them were together without him, or in a way, felt he was left out. however, it's as if time hasn't changed and they accept him back into their group with open arms.

optimus and starscream in general deal with feeling 'othered' both in their high positions as chancellor and prime, and even in their personal relationships. and important thing to them as they are together, is to always show the other how much they are loved, given they never thought others could show them that.

but living with megatron, rodimus, drift and ratchet, they start to open up a bit more.

So the Dratchet family breakup is simultaneously one of the things I am looking the most and least forward to.

On one hand it is one of a part of the story that gets into the nitty gritty world building mixed in with fluffy family moments with baby Rodimus bonding with his two moms who are desperately trying to return him to the baby factor he was accidentally stolen from without admitting how attached they really are.

On the other hand it ends with Ricochet dead, Ratchet presumed dead and her and the as of yet unborn Pharma smuggled away by the government, Drift presumed dead in the burning husk of their home/clinic before she drags herself out before the Prime's agents arrive to try and go find Roddy, and Rodimus carried off and hidden away by a mourning widow who keeps them a step ahead of their searchers most of his early life by being constantly on the move.

Like conceptually I adore it but man is it gonna hurt.

Gonna leave some thoughts here cause I probably won’t be doing anything with them sooner or later

Anyway while I can see ratchet sorta just coming in and taking FA away, I can also kinda see something happening to Pharma and FA kinda just coincidentally ends up in ratchets care. Ex; Delphi arc/tyrest/tarn. Everything in mtmte and ll makes me want to think that the timeline would have first aid be born near thes start/middle of the war but a small part of me wants first aid to be made maybe somewhere near the Delphi arc and the lost light crew will just have a sparkling First Aid running around their medbay lol. Then again, we have Tarn in the mix and then there isn’t really a use of Tarnma meeting. (Unless you want to count Damnus in the mix as well which is just as juicy)

But I can see First Aid being a sort of unwanted sparkling especially if Pharma is having him during the Delphi arc. Ambulon would probably help babysit him when Pharma’ll go out and give Tarn his cogs. Not that Ambulon knows of course. Pharma I imagine is very soft with First Aid but Tarn I’m kinda iffy with. Not too sure if he would also be softer/overprotective or the same self aka mass murderer. Both sides are surprised when they find out about First Aid however.

First Aid would obviously be quite clueless about the whole red rust. I mean his carrier has been locked in a space where he can’t hold him, everyone around him is dying sooner than later, Ambulon is stressed, so he’s stressed—it’s all a mess really. He becomes torn after Delphi—going into a similar state like when Ambulon dies. With Ambulon being the only person close enough to get him out of such a state. Ratchet will try to tell him that it was for the better I imagine. That Pharma, his own carrier was someone who helped kill and gave no mercy to the ill and bedridden patients of Delphi. By all means, First aid should hate Pharma but First Aid loves his carrier. And in memory of his carrier, he sees Pharma. In a younger FA timeline, he probably doesn’t know what happened or how but he knows that his carrier is died. Or at least in a similar state. Add in the sensitivity of carrier/sparkling bonds and you have a damn lot of angst lmao.

In turn, Ratchets and First Aids starting relationship is very strained. He doesn’t know who this mech is or why he’s here but all he knows is the Ratchet killed his carrier. Eventually they will become close but First Aid will still hold that grudge. Even when the soft and gentle words guide and teach him through a surgery or procedure. First Aid can’t help the boil in his blood when he watches Ratchet relax his optics and looks at him with something so tender and parental. He yearns that where Ratchet stood, there was a jet frame colored like a painting with reds, blues, and whites. He’s remorseful and I want him to be like forcefully adopted by dratchet like a kitten hissing their heads off when you try to pick them up lmao.

I haven’t thought to much about the tyrest arc but when Pharma meets Aid again, his voice suddenly turns fragile. His wings’ll tilt down in an inviting manner. It’s unsettling due to the fact that he was just talking crazy to a body less ratchet. But Pharma is crazy. Pharma is a bad person. Pharma is his carrier. If Pharma were to continue with ambulon’s death then I can definitely see First Aid becoming resentful. Now he holds resentment towards both his REAL creator and his current caretakers. Talk about mommy issues…(he just like me fr)

Maybe his sire is a better person..? WRONG! Because apparently his sire is TARN of all people…Who would have known. I think that Tarn and First Aid’s meeting would make most sense if the whole sparkling + creator bond stuff were especially established. Because I genuinely have no idea how Tarn would find out. Maybe they meet when Tarn is flying to rip Megatron and his crew in pieces on that flower planet(can’t remember name) idrk I haven’t thought too much about it.

AU IDEA

An AU. Listen. Vague posting till I actually get all the details laid out somewhat on discord. An au where Pharma is First Aid's carrier and Tarn is his sire. Tarn is NOT involved till later on and Pharma is a struggling single mom. Ratchet comes and fuckes everything up like he likes to do, and basically CPS's First Aid and takes him against his will. Pharma gets depressed and goes into denial about having a son till the events with Tyrest where they reunite for a while. And thats all im saying for now

Rodimus is pregnant after a pitstop on Earth and everyone on the Lost Light is sooooo curious, wondering who the sire is. There's bets that it's either Dratchet's or MiniMeg's or even Thunderclash's because Rodimus is keeping a tight lip on the identity of the sire. And even though they're not the sire/s, they do try to court Rodimus to help him but he gently turns them down.

But surprise! It's actually Soundwave from a one night stand they had on Earth. Not only that but he comes to the Lost Light to woo Rodimus, who thought Soundwave was only interested in his frame but that's far from the truth. He wants to properly court Rodimus and be a family with him.

Rodimus had tried to keep it a secret but after passing out on the bridge his secret was revealed.

He was just coming around when he felt Ratchet scan him and then the medic gasped.

"You're sparked."

Those who'd been waiting for him to wake up also gasped and when he turned on his optics he blushed feeling a little embarrassed that his secret was revealed like that.

"I know."

He didn't say anything else even when people asked about the sire.

Word spread throughout the Lost Light and everyone began placing bets on who the sire was since Rodimus hadn't said anything.

Some thought it was Drift or Ratchet because he was close to them especially Drift. While others pointed out that Ratchet didn't like him and had voted against him as captain.

Other people thought it might have been Megatron or Minimus. While others argued heavily against Megatron being the sire and others thought the couple wouldn't want someone like Rodimus who was the exact opposite to them.

Then someone mentioned Thunderclash and for a while everyone was placing bets on them because who wouldn't love Thunderclash.

Out of all the bets Rodimus hated that one the most. However none of them were right.

He'd been joking about it with Drift until his friend got a serious look on his face and asked him who it was. He'd merely changed the subject refusing to talk about it anymore.

This seems to make his Amica worried because he begins courting him with a reluctant Ratchet. Both of them wanting his sparkling to have a sire.

He didn't even have to think about it before turning them down. However they weren't the only ones who wanted to "help."

Both Minimums and Megatron tried to prove they were worthy of being the sparklings sire. However he refused asking them both to stop.

Thunderclash was a lot harder. He was determined to be the sparklings sire and it was made harder by everyone thinking they were a cute couple. He hated it so much and silently fumed when people talked about what a great guy he was and how his sparkling was so lucky.

Thunderclash followed him around everywhere constantly trying to take care of him even when he could do things by himself.

He was getting tired of everyone bothering him and gossiping behind his back,bthat it was making his carrying so much worse.

He'd just spent the morning throwing up in the bathroom when he heard shouting. He rushed out to see what the commotion was about and found Soundwave coming towards him.

His crew was trying to stop him but Soundwave shoved them out of the way demanding to see him.

"What are you doing here?"

Around him people froze letting Soundwave pass.

"I heard you were sparked."

He blushed glaring at his crew for gossiping so much it got all the way to Earth.

"Is the sparkling mine?"

Unable to deny it he nodded.

"Yes."

Around them people gasped.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"I didn't think you'd want them."

"Of course I'd want our sparkling."

"I thought I was nothing more than a one night stand."

"I don't sleep with just anyone."

Soundwave reached out his hands gently stroking his face and he leaned into his touch.

"You are so much more than a one night stand and I've been trying to reach you even before I learned you were sparked."

He felt tears in his optics and Soundwave wiped them away. Around him people were aweing and he pulled Soundwave into his room so they could talk by themselves without everyone listening in.

For the Ratchet and Drift adoption battle.  

The Lost light ends up on earth for some reason.  And trouble appears, Buddy’s birthparents.  Coming out of the woodwork demanding to see their child.  Now, depending on how long Buddy has been in the system, the state may have already relinquished their parental rights, but it does bring up another problem, by cybertron standards, Buddy is legally Drifts and Ratchets, Earth standards, less so.

This is just the start of an idea.  Maybe it's angst and the parents are a piece of shit who want the child who they abandoned back for some really selfish reason.  Maybe the parents truly do want some relationship with their child and poor buddy is just stuck in between the family that loves them and the family who they spent their life wishing loved them.

Maybe I just want the lost light to turn this custody battle into a fucking kangaro court.  They show up in their holoforms and Rodimus starts to boo whenever the birth parents try to say something.  He’s kicked out and the court goes into recess as they try and figure out how to hold him in contempt of court.  Luckily a good part of the remaining crew have assembled to always have someone audibly cough whenever birth parents try to speak.  Nevermind the fact that none of them even really need to breathe, holoform or no holoform.  And Ultra Magnus is acting as their attorney.  That's all I got.

The bio parents were done for the moment Magnus took on the case.

Human Buddy (Dratchet's kid) meeting their bio parents again

The ship had docked again on Earth for a mandatory, in-person, meeting that Buddy needed to go as liaison of the Lost Light.

It was something simple check in that honestly could have been done online but there wasn’t any harm in some sightseeing. Many of the bots on the ship hadn’t been on Earth or hadn’t been there in a while and wanted to look around.

Buddy stayed with Drift and Ratchet.

Before they headed back to the ship, Buddy wanted to show their bot parents one of their favorite parks they used to go to feed the pigeons.

Ratchet napped in the parking lot, while Drift activated his holoform to go after Buddy.

After a bit Drift started heading back to his alt mode with Buddy trailing behind after forgetting their water bottle at the bench.

“Hey kiddo!”

“Buddy turns around and freezes as their face collides with someone’s chest.

A familiar chest.

They push themselves off the person as another person comes up too.

“Mom? Dad? What are you doing here?”--Buddy

“That’s what I’d like to know.”--Drift

Buddy looks behind them to see Drift’s holoform marching up to Buddy.

He gently places his hand on their shoulder and looks at the two humans.

“A who might you be?”--Drift

“I’m their father.”--Dad

“And I’m their mother.”--Mom

Drift raises his eyebrows.

“Buddy are they…”--Drift

“My biological parents? Yes, and I thought I’d never see you again after you put me in the system.”--Buddy

Neither of the parents get the little hint of venom in their voice.

“Well, we’re here now! And its time to take you home—”--Mom

“Take them home?”--Drift

“Take me home?”--Buddy

“That’s right Pal—”--Dad

“My name is Buddy.”--Buddy

“Whatever, we’re going home now, so if you’d just come here.”--Dad

The ‘Dad’ tries to grab Buddy’s wrist, but Drift pushes Buddy back.

The ‘Dad’ narrows his eyes at Drift.

“Are we going to have a problem here?”--Dad

Drift narrows his eyes as well.

“I think we are.”--Drift

Buddy’s eyes widen.

“Listen everyone, HE is legally my main guardian. Has been with my other guardian for a while now.”--Buddy

The ‘Mom’ huffs.

“Well until WE see the paperwork, if its not justified by the court here then its null and void for us. Now get over here and—”--Mom

“And what’s happening here?”--Ratchet

Buddy smiled at Ratchet’s holoform coming overlooking more annoyed than usual.

“These are Buddy’s biological parents.”--Drift

Ratchet’s eyes narrow and stands by Buddy’s side.

“The parents that put you in the system?”—Ratchet

“Yep.”--Buddy

The ‘Mom’ starts getting more annoyed.

“That’s in the past and we’ve already settled a court order to get Pal—”--Mom

“Buddy.”—Buddy, Drift and Ratchet

“—Back to us.”--Mom

Ratchet turns to Buddy.

“Wait in the ambulance.”--Ratchet

“But—”--Buddy

“Kid, trust me. We need to have a chat with your ‘parents’.”--Ratchet

Buddy looks at them all before walking to Ratchet’s alt mode.

Buddy wordlessly goes to the ambulance while the muffled yelling was heard outside.

They just strap themselves in the back and hug themselves tightly.

Everything went so fast…

They felt their seatbelt tighten.

It’s a heavy quiet on the drive back to the ship.

When they transformed Ratchet passed them to Drift who just holds them to his chassis.

A crew meeting was called.

“So, Buddy’s bio parents want them back because, and I quote ‘We want to embrace them once again!’. Am I missing something?”--Rodimus

“That’s about it.”--Drift

Half of the bots laugh.

“Good luck with that! Buddy’s legally Dratchet’s kid!”--Whirl

“Whirl we’ve talked about the name—”--Cyclonus

“Yeah! They’re Dratchet’s kid!”--Tailgate

“…Why do I even bother with you?”--Cyclonus

“But they did bring up a point, Earth courts and legal system don’t see Buddy as their kid. Meaning to them, Buddy’s still in the system. And if they play their cards right…”--Megatron

Drift and Ratchet stiffen at the thought.

The crew starts talking amongst themselves but all feel angry at this revelation.

“We can’t let that happen!”--Nautica

“That’s why we’re going to court to fight for Buddy’s case. Ultra Magnus has agreed to represent Buddy—”--Megatron

“Those Fleshy’s are so screwed!”--Whirl

Time to take this to court.

Buddy is put into a different home while the case gets settled.

Meaning no contact with anyone.

There had been attempts by the bots to go and see Buddy, but they complied hearing that any visit could jeopardize their position in custody.

Thank goodness Magnus was there to help with the court case and legal things.

Also to help mediate the humans and the bots ‘immature’ actions.

So many of the bots in their holoforms were making obnoxious noises (cough* Rodimus and Whirl*cough).

There were more breaks because of this.

No one of the bots are happy to see the parents when come to the stand, fuming when the pair put on an act.

Even going as far as stating that Drift and Ratchet were unfit parents, not being the same species.

Something strange happens the day when Buddy is supposed to take the stand.

Everyone is asked to come back the next day for the final verdict.

All the bots are confused and worried.

Ratchet and Drift are especially worried about what happened.

Today would have been the first time the pair or anyone would have seen Buddy, and all of a sudden, the day they are supposed to take the stand no one is allowed to see them?

Something is wrong and they can feel it.

The pair find solace in each other while riding high on anxiety.

What if the court decided they truly weren’t fit to raise their human kid?

Would Buddy have to leave the Lost Light for good?

There were too many questions going through their processors right now.

The next day Magnus is updated on what happened yesterday.

The next day the bots and bio parents come in.

Buddy is sitting behind a desk far from everyone else in the room with a guard by their side.

“Ultra Magnus and the crew of the Lost Light, in the case of the legality of the adoption document of Buddy, the jury recognizes that Drift and Ratchet are the legal guardians and will be formally recognized in the system here on Earth.”--Judge

All the bots are floored and cheer hearing the news.

Ratchet and Drift smile the happiest of the bunch.

“Excuse me? What makes these aliens even fit to raise a human child, our child Pal—”--Mom

“Their name is Buddy, Fleshy.”—Whirl and most of the bots

Magnus clears his throat getting everyone’s attention.

“To begin with, you two are charged with attempted kidnapping and aggravated assault of a minor.”—Magnus

The bots behind him eyes go wide.

The parents themselves go pale.

The police start cuffing the bio parents as they squawk in shock.

“What is the meaning of this!? Unhand us!”--Mom

“You have no right—”--Dad

“IF I may!”--Magnus

Magnus ‘clears his throat and intently stares at the parents with hatred in his holoforms eyes.

“You attempted and succeeded in breaking and entering the home where Buddy had been staying and attempted to take them to an unknown location against their will. They fought the both of you off sustaining injuries to both hands and you two fled the scene on foot back to your respected household to pretend that this ‘incident’ never happened the next day.”--Magnus

The bots behind him have a mixture of shock and anger on their faces.

Drift is glaring at the parents wanting nothing more than to punch them square in the jaw.

Ratchet is trying to look over at Buddy for any injury he could spot from where he was sitting.

Magnus looks at Buddy.

“Buddy, if you may show your hands.”--Magnus

Buddy reveals thick bandages on both arms and hands.

“I do believe that is enough evidence. The biological parents are set to a new court date to address these charges. The court once again recognizes Drift and Ratchet as Buddy’s legal guardians, court dismissed.”--Judge

With the swing of the gabble the parents are escorted out screaming and kicking, while Buddy is escorted to a different door.

Once the bots are outside, they can see Buddy running to them with arms wide open.

Drift and Ratchet open their arms as Buddy crashes right into them crying and wrapping their arms around them.

Drift is crying and ratchet is on the borderline of doing so too.

Ratchet carefully looks at Buddy’s wrapped hands.

“Those two good for nothings just wanted to get me back to get my income.”--Buddy

“We can add more charges to their case.”—Magnus

“We can jump them!”—Whirl

Buddy chuckles a bit.

“I think the grapefruit sized marks are enough for now.”--Buddy

Buddy pulls out a wrench from their pocket.

“Learned how to throw from the best.”—Buddy

Ratchet hugs them again as Drift joins in a second later.

The bots all head back to the Lost Light.

Ratchet and Drift never letting go of Buddy for an instant.

Do Ratchet and Drift ever decide to adopt a kid or have a surrogate?

You're not the first person to ask this! The answer is no-- Drift and Ratchet are not childrearing types. They are, rather, the favourite if slightly feared guncles within Ratchet's extended family, and the loving but laissez-faire parents to a mess of dogs (and one cat).

I don’t mind at all one of the big ones that kind started this is that elita1 never told Optimus that she’s on earth and so she is hiding in the woods with there kid and a whole bunch of other high profile sparklings (like jazz/prowl,KoBd,drift/ratchet) and no one knows till the sparklings inevitably get into some hilarious shenanigans. 

So I was bored and thinking (which is dangerous for me) but in rescue bots there is no mention of a ms. Burns. I kinda took that and came up with a fun idea. Ms.burns isn’t dead or evil or a deadbeat mom. Ms.burns is a happily single asexual woman who lives in the middle of the Maine wilderness with elita1 raising orphaned sparklings. So that means all the burns kids are adopted (which I liked the idea of anyway) and Charlie burns is a happly single man who has a happy loving family. But this gives me some room for some cool head cannons for the burns family and their bot friends.

someone has to take this dratchet baby to Rung so he can deal with his sexually motivated mommy issues with a therapist or something. maybe after Ratchet finds out that his baby's been fucking him senseless for months, he's not ready to give up on them yet. clearly there's something wrong and they need to learn how to deal with their issues without commiting incestual rape, probably. give them some healthier coping mechanisms and stuff.

Can we expand Roddy's family? I want Firestar to be apart of it purely because of the fire. Percy just carries the fire gene, or maybe she's Roddy's aunt. Either way, I want her to take him to her friends when he's a bitty like "look at my little brother/nephew!" :D

Imagine Dratchet trying to ease Rodimus into their date nights, but Rodimus is being oblivious and really wants to dance, he thinks Drift wants to have a slow night by Ratchet's side, and can't blame him so he goes to dance with his big sister instead.

Originally I was "like these two would be able to tell that there isn't any romantic love" but basing this au off that one ask with them being jealous over Perceptor, yeah I don't think these dumbasses would be able to tell the difference until it was aiming a gun at them.

Maybe they emerged from the well and that's why they have no experience of carriers and sires. A cute little bonus to becoming conjunx with Rodimus, they can have a family. <3

Speaking of which, I feel like Firestar and Kup are more chill about Ratchet and Drift joining the family, but only because they got Percy being the scary one.

I know I said let's expand the family, but I can only think of Firestar. Actually, maybe Flareup is her daughter from a one night stand. Let's even add Spinister for the hell of it. I don't know his origins of where he came from, but it sounds funny.

This is one interpretation of my AU where Roddy is the child of Ratchet and Deadlock (in a... sadder version of it)

Hot Rod was born in the midst of the war, roughly 2 million years after it began

After long discussions, Ratchet ultimately took him to live at the Autobot base, where it would be safer for the young spark. No one knows how the Decepticons would react to Deadlock having a sparkling, and too many might see this “weakness” as something to exploit

Roddy knows who his carrier is and has met with him a few times

Autobots know he’s Ratchet’s sparkling, but they have no idea who his carrier is

Decepticons, for now, don’t know about him at all

During one of the battles, Deadlock is captured. While the higher-ups of the Autobots are preoccupied with more urgent matters, Roddy, following the call of his spark, finds his way to him ♡

also a starscream/rodimus and then prowl/optimus scenario would be funny because just imagine rodimus and optimus being best friends but their conjunxes (starscream and prowl) hate each other so family dinners are weird. like yes drift and ratchet are also there and also make appearances but the tension between starscream and prowl is unbearable to the point where it's just laughable because they are all in the same, ginormous family with communal living and shit and these two are still giving each other ugly glares.

in starscream's defense prowl doesn't really like drift all that much either but drift kinda thinks it's funny to try and get on prowl's nerves. but prowl is optimus, rodimus and ratchet's friend. starsceam is always going to be seething in the corner especially when his sparklings also start calling prowl creator

Making Hot Rod and Pharma siblings and Pharma the baby is hands down now one of my favorite aspects of this.

I wanna create an AU so so so bad with like all of the ideas I have for TF characters plus original characters!!

-Like Megatron had a sparkling(Starburst) with a seeker named Dynamite (who was previously nobility before being kicked out of his family bc he refused to bond with another Vosian), but Dynamite ended up dying in the first half of the war so Megatron had to raise this kid on his own

-Optimus and Ratchet also had a sparkling around the same time named Stretcher(they became a medic) but they ended up mutually breaking up in the middle of the war. Though they were amazing co-parents!!

-The war eventually ended because the Decepticons realise how outnumbered they were and surrendered(idk if I’d keep that, but smth along those lines that allows Megatron and Optimus to work together for fix Cybertron)

-Megs and Oppie become very much in love but deny it to everyone and take forever to date

-Dratchet and Coswave are obvi a thing bc they’re my favs

-Only Ravage and Laserbeak survived(rip the other cassettes)

-Jazz/Prowl is a thing and have been for ages

-Starscream gets to help restoring things as the lord of Vos(she’s also with Skyfire and the trine exists)

-Sentinel dies brutally(I hate him, he deserves it)

-Shockwave is actually the sweetest guy ever and him Jackie get a happily ever after

-Other og characters include: Triax, a special ops agent, and Sterio, the former lead singer of the most famous alt-rock band on Cybertron(they’re conjunx endurae)
