Lament of the Grey Warden

I was listening to "Gehrman, the First Hunter" ost, and I randomly thought about writing a little lament for the Grey Warden (both the Hero and the other Grey Wardens that gave their life to end the Blight). It isn't good - I do not think myself a poet, but I did try my best.

Warden of Fable Grey, rest now, this final day. In our embrace, grief wilts away.

Fear not the lasting doom, I grant a final boon. Begone, the nightmares shall go, ending all remaining woes.

Oh, dragon god of old, stained by Heaven's sorrow. Our lives I will glad give, so the world shall yet live.

Veiled gods, hear my prayers: Promise an end to this nightmare. Bloom the flowers beneath the dawn, and end this cruel song.

Thanks to Ferelden being based HEAVILY on the UK, i've taken it upon myself to instead make them all Scottish, and so- I give you my interpretations of what the tartans of some of our noble families would look like <3

thinking about how my main warden (amell) is the youngest hero in relation to when their whole thing happened, at 18. she's only 4-5 years older than lavellan (who is 24 or 25 at the start of inquisition, i can never decide). all that shit that happened, all the shit they did, to save a country, a continent, that locked them away in a tower in the middle of a lake "for their own good". they had to do all that at 18 years old.

they wanted to save their best friend, the closest thing they had to family, from a fate worse than death. help him gain his freedom and a chance at happiness with his love, two things she had resigned herself never to have. and she was content with that.

and then they get caught, and jowan outs himself as a blood mage and runs, and now any prospects amell had in the circle are basically dead. (and the thing about it is, they're not even mad about the blood magic. they still would've help him if they'd known. she'd mad that he lied to her, and deceived her. she's mad that he abandoned her.)

and then in comes duncan to "save the day", offering to trade one prison for another. they didn't know that at the time tho, they just knew they couldn't stay at the tower. and at least this way, she could see flowers in person. (she still wonders about lily's fate. and jowan's, too.)

they just wanted to help a friend and ended up having to save the world. had the responsibility of a whole blight on their shoulders. at 18 years old.

Thinking about Dragon Age Origins (again) and my Amell is the type of mage that would openly say "You use blood magic? Skill issue. Can't be me" and Jowan would actually want him to be obliterated by a fucking templar

Have some Amells

Couldn't help myself designing and making some Amell siblings- that family is just so ripe with drama, I love it.

None of them are my "canon" protagnists, I just like imagining them joining in companion or side character style.

Azari is the oldest of five, a scholar, bloodmage, rat parent and an unberable smartass. They manifested young, a sign of more troubling times to come for the Amell family. The limitations of the Circle never much appealed to this curious fella so they left as soon as an opportunity presented itself- might have joined a suicide squad on their way there but hey, as long as they allow them free range on their sometimes morally dubious reaserch on blood magic and taint, they are happy to be here. And if it comes with a cute elevn assasin to nerd out about Antivian poetry with, well, that's even better.

Abby and Allya are twins and they reacted vastly diffrently to their older sibling being taken away.

Abby reacted by becoming angry. Very angry. It lit the fire in her that the Circle tried to dim, but was never able to put it out. Interestingly though, despite her ire towards the Circle and the Chantry, she neer stopped believing the Maker. She remained very religious, her faith only fueling her conviction. Abby knows the Maker loves her just as he made her- and if he made her to help and protect people, then the Circle ought to stay out of her way. Her rebelious nature became even more apparent as Hawke rose to power- something that sadly then caught Meredith's eye...

Meanwhile Ailla became more withdrawn, quiet. As she was the first out of the two to manifest magic, she blamed herself for the family becoming even more torn apart. With time she became tougher, colder and more traditional- but the blame remained. Ailla is a character of contradictions- her empathy being constantly at odds with her strictness, her devotion split between the people and the Chantry. But if she follows the rules, if she works hard, if she serves the people of Thedas to the best of her abilities, some day those doubts and feelings of inadequacy will fade away... right?
