If the age restriction was done away with, do you think Harry's name would have been picked for the tournament at 14?
Maybe.
Like, how the goblet chooses a champion has nothing to do with age. The age restrictions were added by Dumbledore with his age line. The goblet only cares to pick out the "most worthy" champion:
An impartial judge will decide which students are most worthy to compete for the Triwizard Cup, the glory of their school, and a thousand Galleons personal prize money.
(GoF, ch12)
is a measure we feel is necessary, given that the tournament tasks will still be difficult and dangerous, whatever precautions we take, and it is highly unlikely that students below sixth and seventh year will be able to cope with them. I will personally be ensuring that no underage student hoodwinks our impartial judge into making them Hogwarts champion
(GoF, ch12)
Tomorrow night, Halloween, the goblet will return the names of the three it has judged most worthy to represent their schools.
(GoF, ch16)
"Most worthy to represent the school", now worth could be measured in a bunch of ways, but let's take this quote at face value and assume it means everything. That a champion would be a decent person who is very magically talented. As in, judging on character, intelligence, and magical skill/talent.
At 17, Harry would be picked no questions asked. He's magically capable, he's clever, he's a great guy — he is the perfect champion.
The question is if a 14-year-old Harry would be considered by the goblet more magically skilled and worthy of competing than Cedric. To that, I think the answer is yes too, actually.
Maybe it's because I love Harry a ton and am, therefore, biased, but he can resist the imperius at 14 and cast a patronus at 13. He can cast intuitive magic to rival adults at 14. His accio charm in the first task was incredibly magically impressive. Even if Barty/Moody wasn't helping him, I guarantee Harry could've gotten past the obstacles in the 3rd task as easily as any of the other champions.
Additionally, I think Harry is a nobler person than Cedric. I will remind you Harry chose to tell Cedric about the dragons on his own accord because he wanted things to be fair:
Cedric still didn’t know about the dragons . . . the only champion who didn’t, if Harry was right in thinking that Maxime and Karkaroff would have told Fleur and Krum. . . . [...] “Cedric,” said Harry, “the first task is dragons.” “What?” said Cedric, looking up. “Dragons,” said Harry, speaking quickly, in case Professor Flitwick came out to see where Cedric had got to. “They’ve got four, one for each of us, and we’ve got to get past them.”
(GoF, ch20)
While Cedric Diggory, the poster child for just and fair Hufflepuff house, gives Harry way less helpful information and he does it as a transaction — as returning the favor and not because he thinks it would make things fair:
“Listen . . .” Cedric lowered his voice as Ron disappeared. “I owe you one for telling me about the dragons. You know that golden egg? Does yours wail when you open it?” “Yeah,” said Harry. “Well . . . take a bath, okay?” [...] “Tell you what,” Cedric said, “use the prefects’ bathroom. Fourth door to the left of that statue of Boris the Bewildered on the fifth floor. Password’s ‘pine fresh.’ Gotta go . . .
(GoF, ch23)
Also, there's a reason Harry stays behind in the second task to make sure all the hostages are saved, he's the noblest competitor there. (Maybe because he doesn't care about winning as much as the others, but still).
So, yes, I think, if the age line wasn't there and Harry's name was placed in the goblet, I think he very well could've been chosen by the goblet as a champion. I think he's more than worthy.
#harry potter#harry james potter#my best boy hjp#can you tell I'm a little salty about Cedric#I didn't like him that much#Neither do I think he's a good example of a Hufflepuff#Is that a controversial opinion?#hp meta#hp#hollowedtheory#anonymous#asks

One Shot: Holding Onto Hope
-Draco x reader, reader x original character
-House: Slytherin
-This turned out a lot longer than I planned, so apologies if there are any spelling mistakes etc.
-Set during GoF: reader and Draco often notice each other from a far, but never really speak, could the romantic interests of a international student in the reader, be the thing that pushes them together.
-Tomir Dimitrov (original character, part of the Durmstrang Institute)
-Poliakoff (Igor Karkaroff’s aide)
-Warnings: underage drinking, swearing, light smut
-Y/H/C (Your Hair Colour), Y/E/C (Your Eye Colour)
-(yes I did blatantly take inspo from Hermione and Ron’s conversation about going to the ball for one (tiny tiny) part of this, forgive me Merlin for I have sinned x)

-My Masterlist 🖤
It was the start of a Y/N’s fourth year, she was so excited to be back at Hogwarts, especially because Hogwarts had been chosen as the host school for this years Tri Wizard Tournament, they had been joined by guests from Beauxbatons Academy and Durmstrang Institute. Y/N was too young to participate in the tournament, along with most of her friends, but never the less it was going to be a far from ordinary year at Hogwarts. In the first few weeks of term the students had classes as normal and got to know their new guests, Y/N and her friends became close with multiple Durmstrang boys due to them sharing the Slytherin table in the Great Hall. Then finally on Halloween the champions were chosen, there were usually three but somehow, despite his age, Potter had managed to worm his way into the tournament too, much to the annoyance of Y/N and many of her fellow Slytherin friends.
“Typical Potter, can’t be out of the spotlight for more than a minute, I bet him and Dumbledore planned it, just wait until my Father hears about this” Draco spat, everyone nodded in agreement as the group of friends sat about in the Slytherin common room discussing the evenings events.
“I couldn’t agree more Draco” Pansy hummed, attempting to wrap her arms around him, pouting as he shrugged her off.
Y/N watched them from across the room, cringing at Pansy’s desperation and Draco’s tense frame as he slowly inched away from her. Truthfully Y/N had always liked Draco, but he got so much other female attention, she never dared admit it, so she’d tend to just admire him from a far. Admire his perfect porcelain skin, his piercing blue eyes, the way his face crinkled slightly when he smiled or the way he’d bite his lip when concentrating.
“Apparently the first task is something to do with Dragons, I overheard Poliakoff talking about it at lunch” Blaise said, sending a few gasps through the common room.
“Well let’s pray to Merlin the dragons a good shot, maybe we won’t have to deal with Potter much longer” Y/N chuckled, everyone erupted in laughter even Draco, which was a rare sight. Y/N smiled coyly at him across the group of people, his gaze lingered on her softly. The group of friends stayed up for hours that evening theorising ways the dragon might bring down the golden boy, laughing and joking whilst handing round a bottle of Fire Whiskey someone had snuck in. Slytherins may have not always been very kind to the other houses or even each other for the matter, but over the years the group had really created a special bond.
It was the day of the first task, Y/N rushed down the corridor with Pansy,
“Come on we are going to be late if we don’t hurry” Y/N exclaimed urging her down to the arena which was quickly filling up with students. They finally got inside and began making their way over to their friends.
“Draco, Draco” Pansy shouted across the stands, pushing Y/N down into a tiny gap right between Blaise and a Durmstrang boy “You sit here Y/N, there isn’t enough space over there” she said abruptly, as she continued on, positioning herself right next to Draco. Pansy was an alright friend most of the time, but she was very self centred and would drop everything and say anything for a boy she thought was cute, Y/N glanced over Blaise’s shoulder to where Draco was sat, he was rolling his eyes slightly at something Pansy was whispering to him, wriggling from her grip as swiftly as he could, Y/N wondered if he even liked Pansy, it certainly didn’t seem like he did.
Feeling slightly disheartened, Y/N turned her attention to the boy sat to her right, he had hair as dark as soot, deep green eyes and a cheeky grin.
“Hi, I think we may have met before, but I’m so terrible with names, forgive me, I’m Y/N Y/L/N” she said timidly.
“Ah yes Y/N, I think I have seen you at the table in the Great Hall no? I am Tomir Dimitrov, it is nice to finally talk to you. I have only been able to admire you from a far, I must tell you, you are very beautiful” he responded confidently. Y/N felt her cheeks flush with colour, no boy in Hogwarts had ever been so upfront with her.
“Well thank you very much, I - I, no one has ever said that to me before” Y/N was so flustered, she could barely string a sentence together.
“No one?! Well these Hogwarts boys are dumber than I thought” he exclaimed, Y/N let out a huge roar of laughter catching the attention of the students around her, including Pansy and Draco. Draco winced watching Y/N laughing, he always thought she had the most infectious laughter and the most radiant smile, but he couldn’t stand the fact she was laughing at Tomir. Draco had heard him a few days prior asking some Slytherin boys about Y/N, it was obvious Tomir liked her and Draco didn’t blame him, he just hoped she didn’t feel the same way about Tomir. Draco had always thought Y/N was amazing, so confident, so funny and of course beautiful, maybe it was finally time he told her how he felt.
Pansy noticed Draco watching Y/N, it boiled her blood, she wasn’t sure if she even liked Draco or just the idea of being with “The Slytherin Prince” but she wasn’t about to be second best to Y/N again, every boy they knew was crazy about Y/N and she was apparently completely oblivious, Pansy resented her for it. Pansy decided to reach over and place her hand on Dracos leg in an attempt at affection, but it just caused him to flinch and instinctively slap her away,
“Parkinson do you mind? It’s called personal space” he snapped, returning his attention to Y/N who was still chatting away to Tomir. Pansy sighed, shifting herself left towards Daphne and speaking to her instead.
The first task began with the sounding of a canon, and one by one the champions beat their dragons and collected their golden egg, even Harry Potter much to Y/N’s disappointment. Y/N spent most of the tournament chatting to Tomir, he was unlike any boy she had ever known, he was very clear about his interest in Y/N and had even asked if they may sit together at dinner that evening to continue their conversation. As they got up to leave Tomir took Y/N’s delicate hand into his, raising it to his lips placing a gentle kiss on the edge of her knuckles,
“It was wonderful getting to know you, I hope I will see you later Miss Y/L/N”, once again Y/N felt herself blushing, only able to nod slightly and smile as she watched him walk away. Y/N pushed past Blaise and Draco to join Pansy and Daphne, immediately beginning to gush over how kind Tomir was, for once paying no mind to Draco. Draco however was fixated on Y/N, listening as she described her conversation with Tomir, her grin spanning ear to ear, Draco cursed himself, why hadn’t he been able to sit with her that day, got his chance to run his fingers through hers and..
“Oi Malfoy, come on mate we’re leaving” Blaise shouted towards Draco, snapping him out of his thoughts.
“Coming” he called, before joining his friends and heading back to the castle.
A few weeks had passed since the first task, Y/N had spent a large amount of her free time with Tomir, at first happily, he was so nice and very complimentary, but after a while it felt rather forced, everywhere she went he was there waiting for her, she couldn’t seem to escape him. Y/N thought Tomir was lovely, but he was coming on way too strong and after getting to know him more she knew she only saw him as a friend, so him following her round everywhere was becoming increasingly annoying. Y/N was coming out of Herbology when she saw Tomir waiting for her across the courtyard, panicking she dashed away behind the crowd in the opposite direction before he had chance to see her, running towards the library and rushing towards the furthest corner she could find. Fumbling into a seat she landed with a great thud, causing the boy sat opposite to jump slightly and lift his head,
“Draco” she whispered “Hi”
“Hi Y/N, you okay?” he chuckled, gesturing to her flushed appearance.
“Merlin, yes I think so” she replied, darting her eyes about the room to double check Tomir hadn’t managed to follow her, “Its Tomir, I can’t seem to get a minute to myself”
“Ah yes, you two seem rather - smitten” Draco said begrudgingly, Y/N let out a large laugh and rolled her eyes,
“I don’t know what Tomir has been saying, but I can assure you I am not smitten” she continued chuckling to herself. Draco was shocked, and relieved by her reaction, every time he’d seen the pair over the past week or so they were together, and Tomir had been telling all the boys she was “his girl”, Draco was convinced he had lost his chance with Y/N.
“Well, that is a surprise, I think if Tomir had it his way you’d be transferring to Durmstrang” Draco responded.
“Absolutely not, lovely guy, but he is too full on for me, I prefer someone who’s a bit more - laidback, not professing their love every ten seconds” she giggled, picking a book out of her bag and starting to flick through it. Draco admired her for a moment, her perfect Y/H/C hair scraped back into a bun, a few loose strands falling down the side of her face, her gorgeous Y/E/C eyes meeting his across the table.
“You know I don’t think we have ever sat just us two like this before, weird when you think about how many years we’ve been friends” Draco pondered.
“Yes that’s true I guess, probably because you always have one of your cronies following you, or Pansy hanging off your neck” Y/N retorted, slightly bitterly, the thought Pansy might have a connection with Draco infuriated her.
“Merlin, Parkinson is a nightmare, she’s been after me for years”
“What don’t you like her?” Y/N asked quietly, internally jumping for joy, was it true, had Y/N been reading the signs right, was Draco not interested in Pansy?
“No not at all, well as a friend, but nothing more. I’m like you, I prefer someone more, more” he stumbled searching for a polite way to phrase his thoughts.
“Grounded?” Y/N suggested.
“Yes! Someone who - who is completely perfect in every way, yet completely unaware of it at the same time” he exclaimed, staring deeply into Y/N’s eyes, she felt herself blushing under his gaze, he always had such an affect on her.
“That sounds pretty impossible to find Draco” she giggled, their eyes still locked across the table.
“You’d be surprised” he hummed, throwing her a wink, before returning to his work.
The pair worked in silence for the next thirty minutes, occasionally meeting each others glances across the table and smiling sweetly, then they packed up their belongings and headed their separate ways, both replaying their interaction to themselves for the rest of the day.
Christmas was fast approaching, and as was tradition alongside the Tri Wizard Tournament, it had been announced that Hogwarts were to host the Yule Ball, a dance that was to take place on Christmas Eve. Naturally the entire school was talking about it, most of all who everyone was going with. Y/N had been avoiding Tomir as best she could, she was so worried he’d try to ask her to the dance and she hated having to say no. Sat in Charms class she watched the first snow fall out of the window, the frost spreading slowly over the pane of glass creating a layer of sparkling crystals, reminding her of Dracos eyes as she drifted off into a sweet daydream of him. Draco sat across the room admiring her silently, how the light caught her skin perfectly causing it to glisten, how she ran one finger back and forth along her bottom lip nervously whilst gazing out the window lost in thought. He wondered what she was thinking about, maybe him, he hoped so. Suddenly Crabbe poked him,
“Daphne told me to give you this” he said, handing Draco a small note, Draco glanced over to Daphne who was sat next to Pansy, the girls were whispering to each other and laughing childishly. Rolling his eyes he proceeded to open the note, it said: “You and Pansy = Yule Ball”, accompanied by a small cartoon of a boy and girl dancing around the paper and lots and lots of hearts. Draco cringed at the immaturity, he had tried so hard to let Pansy down gently, she just didn’t get that she wasn’t his type, he needed to come up with a plan, and quick.
It was finally the end of the day and Y/N was making her way out of Potions class, when she saw Tomir waiting for her down the corridor, she scurried into a darkened door way, hoping she could wait there until the crowd had dispersed and Tomir would think he had missed her. Suddenly the door behind her opened slightly, a slender hand reached out grabbing her by the wrist and pulling her inside. She found herself face to face with Draco in a small storage cupboard filled with old potion bottles, insect wings and various other containers of odd looking things.
“Draco!” she shouted whilst hitting him playfully on the chest, he pulled her in close and put his hand over her mouth shushing her,
“Y/L/N, I thought you were trying to avoid Tomir, keep it down” he whispered, Y/N giggled as he removed his hand gently.
“Yes - yes I am, thank you” she mumbled as she noticed Dracos arm still wrapped around her waist, sending butterflies to her stomach. Returning her attention to Draco, she met his eyes staring into her, his warm breath travelling down and hitting her lips, they inched slowly towards one other, Draco’s hand gripping tighter on her, the tension between them increasing rapidly before he abruptly pushed her away and began talking again,
“I mainly dragged you in here - because I have a proposition for you”
“Okay, and what is that?” Y/N asked nervously, feeling extremely flustered from their close encounter.
“So I’m assuming, after our run it at the library, you want to avoid going to the ball with Tomir right?” he started, Y/N nodded gently.
“Well Pansy keeps dropping, not so subtle hints, she’s waiting for me to ask her, which I really don’t want to do” he added
“Yes okay understandable, so what’s the proposition?” she chuckled.
“I thought maybe, if you wanted, we could go together” he suggested timidly, Y/N felt a huge surge of excitement spread through her body,
“As friends of course” he blurted out, regretting it immediately, knowing he saw Y/N as much more than just a friend, but what if she didn’t like him, he didn’t want to make her feel uncomfortable or embarrass himself.
Y/N’s joy quickly faded hearing the word “friends” roll of his tongue, she knew he didn’t like Pansy, but she thought for sure she’d felt something between her and Draco. They stood silently for a moment, Y/N fiddling with the end of her tie.
“We don’t have to, I just thought it gets Tomir off your back and Pansy off mine, if we could just say we have already planned to go together” he said quietly.
“Yes - yes, it’s a great idea Draco” she responded quickly, “as long as you don’t mind sacrificing your night for me” she whispered hastily.
“I would hardly say sacrifice” he chuckled, “We will have a great time, and now you don’t have to spend all day hiding from Tomir, you can just tell him you already have a date” Draco beamed at her looking very pleased with his plan.
“Yes thats true” she giggled “Okay so, we are going to the ball together, wow” she gazed up at him, both of them internally screaming with excitement, but cool as ice on the surface.
“As friends” she added throwing him a wink.
“Shall I pick you up from your dorm?” he asked, before opening the cupboard door slightly and checking the coast was clear.
“Oh, such a gentleman” she teased, Draco laughed, “but yes please that would be perfect”, they both slipped out into the corridor.
“Wonderful, well I’ll see you about Y/N” and he headed off towards the Library, cursing himself again for saying the word “friends”, but still he couldn’t wait for Y/N to be on his arm all night.
Y/N made her way back to the common room and found some of the Slytherin girls sat about the fire, gossiping about the Yule Ball. As she went over to join them Pansy was blabbering away,
“I expect Draco will ask me any day now, my mother says we are a perfect match.” she boasted.
“But what if he doesn’t ask you Pans? It’s only a week until the Ball” Tracey asked apprehensively.
“Why wouldn’t he ask me?” she snapped.
“Oh I don’t know, it was a silly thing for me to say” Tracey said, feeling intimidated by Pansy.
“Yes it was. Besides if Draco doesn’t realise how much he clearly likes me, Theodore Nott has also asked me, so I will just go with him, unlike you Tracey I have plenty of choices” she spat. Tracey looked embarrassed, quickly turning her attention to Daphne and Y/N who had just sat down.
“What about you guys? Got a date yet?” Tracey questioned.
“Yes I’m going with Goyle, just as friends, but I’m excited” Daphne responded, warranting a few “oohs” and nods from the girls.
“Y/N? What about Tomir?” Tracey probed, all eyes were on Y/N, especially Pansy’s, who she knew would be less than pleased Y/N was going with Draco.
“Urm, no I’m not going with Tomir, I-“ she stumbled over her words,
“Your not planning on saying no to him are you Y/N? Poor Tomir, added to the long list of boys you’ve strung along and dropped for fun” Pansy taunted,
“What’s that’s supposed to mean? I didn’t string him a long” she tried to stay calm but her rage grew as Pansy continued,
“Come on you must know no one else is going to ask you, I’m saying this as a friend, don’t miss your only chance to have a good night” she said, smiling at Y/N fakely.
“Believe it or not Pansy, somebody else did already ask me, and I said YES” she retorted, before standing up abruptly and heading up to her dorm triumphantly, knowing in just a week Pansy, her so called “friend”, would have that obnoxious smile wiped from her face when she saw Y/N on the arm of Draco Malfoy.
A few days had passed since Y/N had agreed to go to the ball with Draco, she was making her way through the courtyard, the snow was thick and crisp she was too entranced in how it crunched under her boots to notice Tomir approaching her.
“Y/N” he exclaimed, startling her.
“Sorry I did not mean to scare you, just I have been looking for you for many days now, where have you been?” he asked. Y/N felt slightly guilty for avoiding him, he was a nice guy.
“Oh I’ve just been busy with classes and stuff” she answered swiftly.
“Well anyway, the reason I have wanted to talk to you, was to ask you something” he said excitedly, Y/N didn’t say anything she just stared at him apprehensively knowing what was coming.
“I think you are most beautiful and funny girl, and I was just wondering if you would like to go to the Yule Ball with me?” he proposed. A wave of guilt hit Y/N as she knew she was about to say no, at least she had a good excuse thanks to Draco.
“Oh Tomir, I’m sorry, somebody else has already asked me, and I’ve said I will go with them” she responded quietly. His face dropped as he nodded slowly,
“I should have known, well I hope you have a good time” as he turned to walk away, Y/N suddenly had an idea
“Wait Tomir, I do know someone who would love to go with you though, Tracey!” she suggested. Tomir smiled,
“Really? I like Tracey she is a lovely girl, I will have to ask her then, thank you for the idea” and with that he left across the courtyard. Y/N let out a huge sigh of relief, she did feel slightly bad, but it was all going to work out for the best, plus now Tracey can prove Pansy’s nasty comments wrong by being accompanied by a handsome Durmstrang boy. Y/N stood alone for a moment, allowing the cold air to engulf her body as the snowflakes kissed her cheeks gently, pretending just for a moment it was Dracos lips touching her skin, a warm feeling crept through her and a smile broke out across her face.
“Miss Y/L/N” Professor Sprouts voice broke her out of the trance, she sighed bitterly at being brought back to a reality where Draco only saw her as a friend. “Don’t you have a lesson to be getting to?” she asked, Y/N nodded, heading off to her next class. Unbeknownst to her Draco had been watching her the entire time from a corridor window overlooking the courtyard, appreciating her every move, he found himself constantly devoted to her from a far.
Finally Christmas Eve had arrived, classes had ended two days earlier, and Y/N had spent most of the time catching up on homework and avoiding Pansy, who had been going mad since she heard Draco had asked someone else to the ball, promising to hex whoever it was when she found out their identity. Y/N didn’t really believe her, Pansy tended to be all bark no bite, but Draco and Y/N had agreed to keep their arrangement a secret to avoid the gossip. Which became increasingly difficult once Y/N found herself getting ready for the ball in a room full of the Slytherin girls.
“Oh my goodness Daphne you look beautiful” Tracey gushed, as Daphne stepped out from behind the partition in a form fitting violet gown, twirling slowly.
“Yes you look incredible Daph” Y/N agreed, then Pansy came bursting out of the bathroom in a light pink frilly dress, it was lovely, but very traditional.
“What do we think ladies? Don’t I look amazing” she moved to the mirror to admire herself “this was mothers own dress when she was my age”
“Yes you can tell” Tracey said nonchalantly,
“What does that mean? Don’t you like it?” Pansy snapped.
“Oh yes of course, it’s stunning” she nervously responded, realising what she’d said.
“Yes it’s simply gorgeous Pansy, Theo is very lucky to have you on his arm tonight” Daphne purred, all the girls gathered around Pansy continuing to compliment her.
Y/N slipped out of her dressing gown, and pulled her dress up her body, she had chosen a floor length frosted blue dress, with silver snowflakes stitched delicately along the rim of the bodice. It was slightly more revealing than she had intended, it had a slit up the left leg and was backless meaning she couldn’t wear a bra, but maybe this was her chance to show Draco she could be more than just a friend.
“Tracey will you zip me up?” Y/N asked quietly, all the girls turned their attention to Y/N immediately, gasping as they did.
“Merlin Y/N, you look like a Christmas Angel or something” Daphne exclaimed, Tracey rushed over to help with the zipper.
“You really do look insane Y/N” Tracey said
“I think it’s a little - slutty - for a school ball” Pansy spat, angered the attention had been taken away from her, “I think Tomir would prefer something more classy” she added.
“I already told you, I’m not going with Tomir, so I don’t have to worry about that” Y/N exclaimed.
“I didn’t believe you though, I mean who else would have asked you” she laughed. At that moment there was a knock at the door, Y/N flew across and opened it to find Draco stood in his black velvet dress robes looking more handsome than Y/N had ever seen him.
“Hi” Y/N whispered, Dracos eyes widened as they roamed down her body.
“Wow, Y/N you look” he started to speak, before Pansy interrupted,
“Draco? What are you doing here?” she shouted across the room, all the girls now turning and staring at Draco.
“I’m here to accompany the lovely Miss Y/L/N to the ball” he said confidently.
“What?! You two are going together, I - I” Pansy for once, was speechless.
“Shall we go?” Y/N said proudly turning to Draco,
“Yes let’s my love” he presented his arm, which she took gracefully and headed out the door, throwing a little wave to the girls, who were all stood gawping at the scene in front of them. They made their way down through the common room and up to the Great Hall, Y/N felt so at home walking by Draco, she gazed up at him lovingly, before having to remind herself that they were just attending the ball as friends.
“I never got to finish telling you how incredible you look tonight Y/N” Draco began, “I consider myself very lucky to accompany you” Y/N felt herself blushing.
“Thank you Draco, you look very handsome yourself” she smiled at him, “and your plan worked a treat of course” she added.
“Ah yes my plan” Draco had almost forgotten the premise under which he’d asked Y/N to the ball, wishing now he’d just plucked up the courage and asked her properly instead of having to pretend to have no feelings for her, which had become incredibly difficult given how beautiful she looked this evening.
“I must say it was very satisfying to see the look on Parkinson’s face” he chuckled.
“Yes very” Y/N laughed.
The pair strode into the Great Hall, which was done up marvellously with giant silver tables, ice sculptures, enchanted lights and snow covered trees.
“Shall we start with a drink perhaps?” Draco asked.
“Yes, yes let’s” she exclaimed, Draco picked up two glasses and turned back to face Y/N, “I have a little surprise for you” she said menacingly, reaching down to the side of her leg, pulling back her dress slightly at the slit, to reveal a small flask fastened onto her thigh using a white lace garter, Draco’s eyes lit up. Y/N discreetly poured some of the fire whiskey into their drinks, before returning the flask to her leg, noticing that Draco was unable to tear his gaze away from her as she did. They both guzzled down their drinks, shivering from the after taste of the whiskey, then made their way towards the dance floor, where the Champions Dance had just finished meaning everyone was now free to join in.
Dracos hand slipped around Y/N’s waist, pulling her in close as she delicately placed her hand on his shoulder, they began to dance. Eyes locked they spun in synchronisation, completely blocking out the world around them, Draco would whisper jokes in Y/Ns ear as an excuse to pull her in closer, Y/N slowly moved her hand round the back of his neck, running her fingers through his hair.
“Thank you Draco” Y/N said abruptly.
“Thank you? For what?” Draco laughed.
“For asking me to come with you tonight, for saving my ass from having to be honest with Tomir” she giggled, her eyes still locked with his.
“You know I should be honest” Draco said slightly nervously,
“Honest? What do you mean?” Y/N responded apprehensively.
“I invited you to the ball under false pretences” he paused for a moment, “Yes I wanted to avoid Pansy, and I knew you wanted to avoid Tomir. But I also asked you because I like you as - as more than just a friend” a small smile broke out across his face, he’d finally told her.
“Wow Draco I - I don’t even know what to say, I-“ Y/N spluttered, completely shocked by Draco’s sudden revelation.
“It’s fine I understand if you don’t feel the same, I just wanted you to know” he murmured.
“No no” she rushed to get her words out “I like you too, a lot, I just thought after the other day, when you said we were just friends and stuff” Y/N was overcome with happiness and confusion all at the same time.
“That was stupid, I regretted it the moment I said it, I should have just told you how I felt” he responded.
“Well you have now and I am very glad you have” Y/N nuzzled her head into his neck, breathing in his scent and placing a light kiss on his skin, sending shivers down his spine. Slowly she pulled her face up to his, until they were centimetres from each other, still twirling in time to the music, finally their lips collided in a sweet crescendo, a huge smile breaking out across both of their faces, Draco pecked her again gently, before lifting her up and spinning her round, Y/N threw back her head giggling. They were both so lost in the moment, they didn’t even notice all the eyes on the two of them, especially Pansy’s who was dancing nearby with Theo, eyes glued to Y/N and Draco the whole time, still in disbelief.
The night was flying by like some sort of dream, once the traditional dances were complete a band called the Weird Sisters performed. That’s when everyone started having proper fun, jumping about, letting loose, sneaking off with partners for secret rendezvous in the dark. Draco and Y/N had joined a big group of their friends when the band started playing, catching up on what everyone had been up to, but still staying by each other’s side the whole time, hands interlocked, which didn’t go unnoticed by many of their friends who were still flapping about the kiss they’d seen them share on the dance floor.
“I can’t believe it, you and Draco!” Tracey exclaimed, “you should have seen the look on Pansy’s face when you left, priceless” she added in a hushed tone, aware of Pansy stood not too far away glaring at Y/N still.
“He’s amazing Tracey, I will have so much to fill you in on tomorrow, I’m just as shocked as you are” she giggles “and pissing off Pansy is just an added bonus, she deserves it” Y/N whispered, the two girls laughed together.
“Wait did you say fill me in tomorrow? You not planning on coming back to our dorm tonight?” Tracey teased, winking at Y/N.
“Not if I can help it, have you seen him” she said raising her eyebrows suggestively. Draco overheard their conversation, feeling a surge of excitement from Y/N’s promiscuous comment, images of her in his bed running through his mind causing his grip to tighten around her hand unknowingly, gaining her attention.
“You ok?” she asked, noticing Dracos flushed appearance.
“Urm yeh - yeh shall we go outside for some fresh air?” he asked, she nodded, grinning at him mischievously.
“Bye Tracey, see you later” she called back as Draco began pulling her through the crowd.
“More like see you tomorrow” Tracey shouted, laughing loudly, before turning and continuing to dance with Tomir. Y/N took one last look at the Great Hall before Draco lead her out, what a perfect night, everything had fallen into place, it couldn’t have been more amazing, but yet Y/N knew it was about to be.
They rushed out into the courtyard, the sexual tension building between them more and more each minute, Fire Whiskey flowing through their veins. Draco turned to face Y/N running his hand round the back of her neck, pulling her towards him, beginning to kiss her hungrily. She wrapped her arms around his strong torso, collapsing into his lips, a small whimper escaping between them. Draco slowly pushed her towards a darkened corner, until her bare back was up against the stone cold wall. His soft warm lips still worshipping her, slowly he kissed down her neck and then began peppering kisses on her chest, causing Y/N to let out a light moan, much to Dracos enjoyment. Their lips met again, gliding against each other eagerly, Dracos hand slid down her side and pulled her leg up around him, pushing her further into the wall.
“Merlin I can’t tell you how long I’ve wanted to do this” he hummed, continuing to kiss her.
“Me too” she quickly responded between parted lips. Suddenly across the courtyard they heard Snape’s voice as he caught two other students in a compromising position,
“I’ll be seeing you both in detention tomorrow, inside now” he boomed.
“Shit” Y/N exclaimed panicking, starting to push away from the wall. Draco placed a gentle kiss on her neck, before whispering in her ear,
“Come on, I know where we can be alone” and with that he took her hand and lead her back into the castle, keeping quiet whilst scurrying through the shadows. Y/N knew she recognised the path they were taking, but she was so enamoured by Draco she didn’t even realise at first they had arrived at the Slytherin Dungeons,
“Draco - what are we doing here?” she asked apprehensively, giggling slightly.
“Well I don’t tell many people this, don’t want any rumours of favouritism, which there maybe a tiny bit of, but you know what my fathers like, good friends with Snape and all-“ he blabbered on.
“Draco” Y/N interrupted “what does your father have to do with this, I thought we were going somewhere to be alone” she laughed, moving close to him, coiling her hands around his neck, kissing him longingly, reminding him of what he was missing out on whilst standing here wittering.
“Yes - yes sorry, long story short, I have my own dorm, it’s an old disused prefect dorm” he said, grinning at Y/N and returning her affection.
“Of course you do” Y/N responded jokingly,
“Hey come on, it’s a place to be alone isn’t it?” he asked, reaching down and playfully slapping her ass. They met once more in a passionate embrace, it felt so natural and electric, all either of them could think is why they had waited this long to tell each other how they felt.
“So are you going to show me your swanky dorm or not?” Y/N teased breathlessly in between kisses, winking at him.
“Of course Madame how rude of me” he responded humorously, “May I offer you a ride” he asked, before scooping Y/N into his arms,
“Why thank you Mr Malfoy” she laughed, Draco carried Y/N down into the darkness of the dungeons towards his room, the pair giggling childishly. Y/N nuzzled into Dracos neck, kissing him lovingly, thankful for the fact they’d both been holding onto the hope, that they’d be united one day.

Harry Potter as the Dragonborn
I don’t really want to write this because JK Rowling is... *handwaves*. But I got bunnied for it.
Starts at end of GoF because that’s right before the entire series goes to shit. Harry sees Cedric killed and is convinced he’s going to be next, and then time stops and this mysterious glowing woman who introduces herself as Mara tells him to follow her if he wants to live. So he does, and she takes him to Skyrim, telling him he will be safer here than he ever was at Hogwarts. He finds himself on the side of the road in the Jeralls, freezing in his school uniform, and then the Legion pass by.
And here the defining theme of the story becomes clear, namely that Skyrim is messed up in a lot of ways, but one thing everyone with any honour is agreed on is that children should not be fighting. And Harry was always small for his age, is 14, about to turn 15 in a month or so, and does not remotely look like a grown-up. Meaning the Legion take one look and instead of flinging him on the cart with the prisoners are all ‘how old are you? where are your parents? what are you doing out here??’ On hearing the answers are ‘14, they’re dead, I don’t know where I am’, Harry ends up riding behind Hadvar on his horse, and sent into the guard tower while the beheadings happen. Hadvar explains about the war and the Stormcloaks and Empire, and after hearing the Stormcloaks don’t just want the Thalmor out of Skyrim, they ultimately want everyone who isn’t a Nord out of Skyrim, Harry, who just spent his entire childhood listening to Vernon ranting about immigrants and dropping ethnic slurs after a few drinks, and then getting to Hogwarts and having to deal with Malfoy on a daily basis and Voldemort on an existential one decides against ever joining them. And then the dragon arrives.
The entire theme is Harry turning up as a fourteen year old, and every single adult with honour and morals just stopping to ask if he’s all right. The main quest gets very interesting indeed, but he’s not alone because Harry will meet Lucien Flavius early, the two of them hit it off because Lucien reminds Harry of Hermione, is more than happy to be de facto adult to stop Harry getting shipped off to the orphanage while simultaneously letting Harry lead the way, and has both knowledge of this world and money, neither of which Harry really has to start with. We could even add Inigo or Kaidan as someone who can actually fight - Kaidan easier to introduce than Inigo. Maybe Inigo leaves his cell to track Harry down, although even Inigo has to admit Harry wasn’t the one he shot.
Arngeir and the Greybeards are sympathetic but agree the dragon blood makes you restless and can’t be contained for long, only guided, and it is their duty to guide a Dragonborn - they do give him the horn retrieval quest but advise him to enlist help. Delphine is all ‘are you kidding me?? They gave the dragon blood to a kid? Well, I suppose we can’t be choosy. Your friends can fight, right? We’re killing a dragon. You can stay out of the way. When it dies, you can take its soul.’ Harry dislikes her on sight.
A trip to Markarth results in Harry getting arrested, and on confronting Madanach without a wand, Madanach takes one look and is all ‘wait, how old are you??’ and promptly rethinks his entire approach. And then he gets a look at the scar and is all ‘er... do you realise you have a fragment of someone else’s soul in that thing?’ Harry did not realise that but it dawns on him that it makes so much sense. “Voldemort left part of his soul inside me??”
“It, er, would seem so. Who’s Voldemort?” Harry will never get used to a world where people have never heard of Voldemort.
“He’s an evil wizard from back home. He killed my parents and gave me this scar - except the curse backfired and killed him. I’m not sure why, but maybe left his soul in me? Can you fix it?”
“Sadly no... but I bet my sister could. All right. Listen. Never mind our previous disagreement. Neither of us want to die in this prison, right? I’m going to destroy all these confidential documents, then you’re going to wait here while I take care of business. And then we’re getting out of here, and we’re visiting my sister and she will sort out your little soul problem.”
Cue an escape that is less violent than it could have been what with Madanach staying by Harry the whole time and shielding him, and once Harry gets his gear back, he’s calling Lucien on the resonant sphere, and soon his mates are there as well, all of them hanging out at Hag’s End looking around very uncomfortably. That doesn’t change when they meet Keirine either but there’s too many Forsworn around for combat to be an option. Fortunately Keirine is as good as her brother’s word and is able to soul-trap the fragment out and heal Harry’s scar up. It’s still there but a lot fainter and Harry feels lighter for having done it and realises this lot can’t be all bad. Keirine and Madanach invite them all to stay as guests, and Madanach asks more about Voldemort, eventually getting the entire story off Harry, plus all sorts of things about the wizarding world in general. Why, Harry isn’t sure... until a few weeks later when Madanach sends him a letter to visit and Harry arrives to be introduced to Madanach’s youngest daughter Eola and her new boyfriend Cicero, who are going to go on a mission to the wizarding world and track down this Voldemort guy for you, Harry. What, you thought stopping him was all down to you. Kid, you’re very talented but you were completely reliant on that twig to even cast a spell until you landed here, and you’re fourteen. Killing evil liches is not a job for a kid but these two are old hands. (Cicero at this point squeals ‘stabbing!’ and Harry decides to leave them to it.)
Cue sideplot where Cicero and Eola go to Hogwarts, intercept Umbridge who arrives at the same time, kill her and steal her paperwork which is easily forged so it’s got Eola’s name instead of Umbridge’s, and Professor Eola Umbridge is all set to infiltrate with her teaching assistant Cicero. No one is really fooled by Eola’s accent or by her claim to be Canadian, but seeing as they were expecting a Ministry plant and are getting a competent combat teacher instead, no one is actually complaining. Because Cicero and Eola are actually competent, three books get condensed into one year as Dumbledore finds out Harry’s not a Horcrux anymore and these two can track down the others easily enough and Eola can soul-trap them safely thanks to the ritual Keirine taught her. Bonus DADA lesson involving Eola stressing the need to cope without your wand and not to underestimate non-mages and Mr Malfoy, would you like to help with a demonstration. Just cast a spell at Cicero, anything you like. Needless to say, Cicero dodges it, drops and forward rolls, tackles Malfoy, gets the wand off him and pins him down in a headlock with a knife at his throat in about ten seconds. Draco is shrieking like a baby but the rest of the class is delighted. This particular plotline ends up with Harry being invited to Madanach’s again a year later only to see Voldemort’s head on a wall and Madanach proudly asking if that was him. Harry’s not sure how to react but yes, it is. Eola’s got letters from Ron and Hermione too, who she ended up working with after they kept trying to foil her evil plans *eyeroll* seriously Harry, what is it with you people and expecting teenagers to hunt down dangerous lich lords.
“Look, I’m literally having to hunt dragons because no one else can kill them permanently.”
“Only because no one else can do that soul-taking thing on them. If a competent adult could do that, they’ll be retiring you, kid.”
Speaking of which! Solstheim is horrifying, Apocrypha worse, but on first meeting Miraak, Miraak gets halfway through “WHO ARE YOU TO-” before stopping and examining Harry closely in silence, before realising that a) Harry’s Dragonborn and b) he’s fifteen. Which is young even by Atmoran standards. Cue a few questions from Miraak who listens carefully and hums to himself before telling Harry that as a gesture of good faith Harry’s friends will be released from the mind control, and that Harry should return to Raven Rock and wait for a week, not opening the book again. Miraak needs to research something first. “But if you see everyone released from their labour early, I have found what I was after and you may return to speak with me again.”
“What- what are you after?”
“I wish to know about the potency of dragon blood. Mora knows my own and has bound it to his realm. But he doesn’t know yours at all. Lend me a little of yours and I can be free without needing the shrines.”
“What are you going to do when you’re free?”
“I don’t know,” Miraak chuckles. “Perhaps I shall rule all Solstheim again. Or perhaps I shall investigate that little civil war over on the mainland. Or perhaps I shall deal with the World-Eater who I hear is troubling Keizaal once more. Forgive me, krosis, but I do not think it is a fitting job for a fifteen year old boy.”
“I’m not scared of Alduin!”
“Niid? You should be. Regardless, I can sense your strength as Dovahkiin. It is not enough. They are not training you properly. Do you even know the full fire breath shout? No. You do not. My immediate path is clear at least. Alduin has returned. A Dovahkiin is required to deal with him. The one Vus has is not going to manage alone. I will return, train you properly, and then we will fight him together, yes?”
Harry is immediately mistrustful, but on the other hand Madanach has so far proved reliable and he’s heard reports the Reach is quieter these days, less Forsworn attacks. It likely won’t last, but Madanach did cure his scar so there’s that. Still, Miraak is Dragonborn. So Harry agrees and Miraak hands the book back to him and tells him to read it again to leave.
True enough, Lucien emerges from somewhere inside the temple, looking mildly traumatised and far from being shackled to a stone, it turned out he was in a bedroom in the Temple, remembering a voice saying ‘this one is too delicate for manual labour, I shall keep him in my Temple, awaiting my return’. Lucien is a bit weirded out, and poor oblivious Harry has no idea what’s behind that. Inigo and Kaidan’s raised eyebrows and odd remarks also go right over his head and he has no idea why Lucien’s blushing.
Miraak keeps his word, releases everyone else after three days and Harry visits him again. A short ritual later, and the First Dragonborn is free, and keeps his word regarding training Harry. Even if Lucien is blushing constantly and Miraak keeps smiling at him and paying him extravagant compliments and offering to keep him warm.
Meanwhile Sirius and Remus aren’t letting this stand, and the Last Marauders manage to find a way to Tamriel, possibly with insider assistance from Eola. Sirius and Remus are explicitly boyfriends. None of this Remus/Tonks rubbish. The two of them cause chaos all over Tamriel (Night to Remember is involved) until they finally track Harry down and reunite. Sirius ends up as Harbinger of Jorrvaskr and lives there with Remus, who thanks to Aela, now has control over his beast form, and they both decide Skyrim is a better home than England.
TL;DR - Alduin is defeated by Miraak and Harry working together, Miraak Bend Wills the Blades into sparing Paarthurnax, and ends up as Archmage of Winterhold, because not even the College is mad enough to put the teenager in charge. Harry is surprised to see Miraak and Lucien having private conversations with each other, and a few public ones over dinner enthusing over ancient Nordic history, and next thing he knows, Lucien is moving in to the Archmage’s quarters. It falls to Kaidan to break the news to Harry that same-sex relationships are a thing. And suddenly Harry has questions about Sirius and Remus too.
Harry splits his time between Jorrvaskr and the College, training in magic and the Thu’um, and determinedly staying out of the politics, even when Lucien discovers a sentient Dwemer ruin, at which point Harry realises Lucien is in fact not normal at all but a deranged little man who just marched an army of Dwemer robots on Windhelm along with Miraak and several mind-controlled dragons. It did sort the war out, granted, but Harry wishes his friends were, well, normal.
Harry returns to Hogwarts to take OWLs, which he passes with flying colours thanks to all the lessons from Madanach, Keirine, Sirius, Remus and Miraak, and then rejoins for his sixth year. With no Voldemort, he’s never going back to live with the Dursleys... and for the holidays, Miraak and Lucien pick him up with Sahrotaar and Relonikiv, much to everyone’s horror, apart from Ron who’s very impressed. There is much posturing between Miraak and Snape, and for that matter Dumbledore, who Miraak loudly greets with ‘ah, so this is the man that thought destroying a dangerous lich was best served by grooming a teenage boy for the job’. Awkward.
Romances - Ron/Hermione still a thing, but Ginny’s gone off with Luna instead. Luna’s trans. So are McGonagall and Snape. Harry... Harry went vampire hunting with Sirius and Remus, and developed a crush on Serana. She patted his cheek and said he was very sweet but a bit young. Harry’s determined to come back when he’s twenty one and sweep her off her feet. It may work yet.
Lucien’s parents eventually meet Harry and spoil him rotten. Lucien’s letters apparently won them over before Harry ever set foot there. Harry’s now got more parental figures than he knows what to do with, what with Lucien as his foster-brother, Inigo and Kaidan as his unofficial brothers, Sirius as his official legal guardian and Remus as official step-guardian, and now Uncle Miraak too, and then there’s Madanach and Keirine who send regular birthday gifts, and occasionally prank gifts to Draco.
Praise be to Sheogorath, the epilogue never happens, and kids with unimaginative names like Albus never grace this earth.

Things that people/characters judge Ron by /use as a joke that makes 0 sense to me
So as we all know. We read the books from Harry’s point of view. Here are my issues with how Ron was treated.
1. His food habits - this has to be the most annoying part about the series. J.K Rowling is partly to blame. She is always highlighting how Ron’s on his ‘sixth chocolate frog’ or how he’s always hungry, or going further on about his food habits, that it overrides moments of when Ron shares food or plates it for other people. For instance
'Course, once Dumbledore turned up on your side, there was no way they were going to convict you,' said Ron happily, now dishing great mounds of mashed potato on to everyone's plates.
One sentence, simple, no elaboration, just a simple ‘on to everyone’s plates’, much easier to forget than something like this
'Oh, yes,' said Nick, who seemed glad of a reason to turn away from Ron, who was now eating roast potatoes with almost indecent enthusiasm. 'Yes, I have heard the Hat give several warnings before, always at times when it detects periods of great danger for the school. And always, of course, its advice is the same: stand together, be strong from within.'
'Ow kunnit nofe skusin danger ifzat?' said Ron.
His mouth was so full Harry thought it was quite an achievement for him to make any noise at all.
'I beg your pardon?' said Nearly Headless Nick politely, while Hermione looked revolted. Ron gave an enormous swallow and said, 'How can it know if the school's in danger if it's a Hat?'
'I have no idea,' said Nearly Headless Nick. 'Of course, it lives in Dumbledore's office, so I daresay it picks things up there.'
'And it wants all the houses to be friends?' said Harry, looking over at the Slytherin table, where Draco Malfoy was holding court. 'Fat chance.'
'Well, now, you shouldn't take that attitude,' said Nick reprovingly. 'Peaceful co-operation, that's the key. We ghosts, though we belong to separate houses, maintain links of friendship. In spite of the competitiveness between Gryffindor and Slytherin, I would never dream of seeking an argument with the Bloody Baron.'
'Only because you're terrified of him,' said Ron.
Nearly Headless Nick looked highly affronted.
Terrified? I hope I, Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington, have never been guilty of cowardice in my life! The noble blood that runs in my veins -'
'What blood?' asked Ron. 'Surely you haven't still got - ?'
'It's a figure of speech!' said Nearly Headless Nick, now so annoyed his head was trembling ominously on his partially severed neck. 'I assume I am still allowed to enjoy the use of whichever words I like, even if the pleasures of eating and drinking are denied me! But I am quite used to students poking fun at my death, I assure you!'
'Nick, he wasn't really laughing at you!' said Hermione, throwing a furious look at Ron.
Unfortunately, Ron's mouth was packed to exploding point again and all he could manage was 'Node iddum eentup sechew,' which Nick did not seem to think constituted an adequate apology. Rising into the air, he straightened his feathered hat and swept away from them to the other end of the table, coming to rest between the Creevey brothers, Colin and Dennis.
'Well done, Ron,' snapped Hermione
As you all see, J.K Rowling went out of her way to make the way Ron is eating noticed, and the way Harry and Hermione react to it. I absolutely hate this. I hate how the characters look at his food habits and I hate the way readers now remember him by. Ron is about 6′3 (maybe even taller), he is a teenage boy who is GROWING, and is also skinny. It is COMPETLEY NORMAL for him to eat like how he does. He is the YOUNGEST SON of 5 older brothers, he is used to having to eat food quickly. I don’t understand why this became a thing of judgement, he is allowed to be hungry. When other character’s are hungry, it’s fine, no one addresses it, but when it’s Ron of course Hermione has to look disgusted. Meanwhile, look at the reaction’s the occur when Harry is hungry...
"So you persuaded Horace Slughorn to take the job?"
Harry nodded, his mouth so full of hot soup that he could not speak.
"He taught Arthur and me," said Mrs. Weasley. "He was at Hog-warts for ages, started around the same time as Dumbledore, I think. Did you like him?"
His mouth now full of bread, Harry shrugged and gave a noncommittal jerk of the head.
"I know what you mean," said Mrs. Weasley, nodding wisely. "Of course he can be charming when he wants to be, but Arthur's never liked him much. The Ministry's littered with Slughorn's old favorites,
No looks of disgust from Mrs. Weasley? If it was Ron I bet you Mrs. Weasley would have been like, ‘slow down Ron!’ or something to shame him for being hungry and this is just not O.K. LET RON EAT. LET HIM BE A GROWING BOY. WHY DOES HE HAVE TO BE SHAMED FOR BEING HUNGRY?
Okay onto number 2. His insecurities.
In my opinion, it started off O.K and then after GOF it became something that was like..characters were like ‘yeah O.K Ron’s insecure we get it,’ like in GOF Hermione goes from understanding him to the point where she explains to Harry, don’t you see, it’s hard for him always being compared to people, to OOTP where she’s like shut up with your jealousy Ron you’re sooo annoying. It particularly pisses me off in HBP when Hermione is like going out of her way to compliment Harry and Ron is clearly annoyed with it. And Hermione just ignores Ron like it’s an inconvenience that he’s insecure. I personally would never go out of my way to compliment one friend and ignore the other, especially when tha other friend looks bothered. We see this trend with other characters, who make fun of him for being insecure. The whole Weasley is our King is literally a song that abuses Ron’s lack of confidence in order to make him choke up in quidditch, and no one thinks nor cares about the seriousness of just how insecure Ron is that even other houses can recognize it to use it for their advantage. They just roll their eyes at it like ‘ugh Ron stop being insecure’ and I feel like he deserved more sensitivity, rather than make it like, Ron needs to stop being an insecure prat. Harry is the KING of brushing out other peoples problems because he’s Harry Potter and he has BIGGER PROBLEMS. They ignored Ron to the point where Harry was surprised as to what was coming out of the locket, Harry should have known, he should have not treated it like a minor inconvenience.
Number 3. His lack of ‘compassion,’ or ‘empathy’
We see it highlighted a few times. Harry has described Ron as lacking empathy in situations, or in being too blunt. And these situations tend to be, well, not serious situations, they’re also situations where he is 14 years old. However, when Ron is showing empathy and emotion it’s always brushed off. Like how he cried during Dumbledore’s funeral. Or how he was dealing with Harry’s tantrums, or how he was able to diffuse tension with jokes. It makes Ron appear as if he’s emotionally underdeveloped, but this is not the case, Ron lacks in lady knowledge, what teenage boys don’t? The reality is that Ron knows when to be serious, he IS emotionally mature. When Sirius dies he doesn’t interrogate Harry like Hermione does, he knows when to draw the boundary and respect space.
Number 4. His status.
It’s often highlighted how he is poor, is a ‘nobody’, or is Harry’s friend by other characters. We see it in HBP with the slug club, we see it with the Slytherin’s. Here is my issue with this...yes he is a Weasley..but let’s look at all the Weasley’s. We have Bill, a curse breaker who married a Veela, Charlie a dragon hunter, Percy, who is high up in the ministry, Fred and George, who have a funny swagger and are popular with everyone, and Ginny, Ms. Badass. I just don’t understand why he was the only Weasley who really got made fun of for being well, a Weasley, why was it RON? Even in the slug club I don’t get it, Slughorn liked people with connections, wouldn't he have had connections by Bill being is brother, or like his aunties? Cormac was taken in because of his uncle...And of course Ginny get’s invited.
Number 5. The downplay of his accomplishments and the highlight of when he messes up.
By convenience we don’t get to see How Gryffindor won the quidditch cup in fifth year because of Grawp, but we got to see him failing miserably before-hand. We don’t see him duelling the death eaters in the ministry, but we see him with the brains, although we know what he’s done, due to another character, or Ron telling us what he’s done, the readers get a limited amount of how many times that is actually described.
Number 6. The tone J.K Rowling uses with Ron’s descriptions.
Huge pet peeve of mine was how J.K Rowling decided to describe Ron’s owls marks. She gave Harry’s all laid out, and all we get for Ron is ‘Harry saw no O’s’ only to see that next book, they’re cleared for the exact same classes, meaning he got Exceeds Expectations in everything Harry did, like wtf? With ‘Harry saw no O’s’ that could mean 11 P’s, the only reason we know this is not the case is because Ron highlights how he only failed divination and history of magic, and how Molly says he got more than the twins combined. Without this, readers could have assumed anything as all they had to go by was ‘Harry saw no O’s,’ UGH it still bothers me.
All in all, I think there was a tone implied in the novels that tried to downplay Ron’s character. And it’s sad because I think J.K Rowling knew she created such a likeable complex character, so she downplayed it. Making Ron suffer in the process.

First 5 weeks Digest (all this digestion and nothing to eat)
So, without further Ado…
CONSTELLATIONS (Prompt/Day: Day 13 - Rings) Rated K+, but with a brief mention of sexual interaction near the beginning
Brief summary: Hermione’s obsessed with the freckles that dot Ron’s back: she can’t help but stare every time he’s shirtless around her. But when she realizes they’re a bit like constellations, she has an idea— an idea that involves Ron laying flat on his stomach on their bedroom floor, and that involves her handling paint and paintbrushes to bring a galaxy to life on his back. Content Tags: brief, nonconsequential mention of sexual interaction near the beginning (not important to the actual story)
Ring (Prompt: Bonus Day - Kisses) Rated: T Brief Summary: A row about payments turns bad real quick for Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Will they overcome it? Content Warning: harsh language, domestic rowing, lots of angst.
At The Platform (Prompt/Day: Day 5, Hermione leaves for Hogwarts, hair. Rating: G Brief summary: It’s time for Hermione to get back to Hogwarts and emotions are running high. Any possible triggering/warning tags: n/a
The First, and Last ( Prompt/Day: Day 6, Ron’s bedroom, vest.) Rating: PG Brief summary: It’s time to leave the Burrow. Any possible triggering/warning tags: Suggestive dialogue.
Comfort (Day 5 Hair ) Rating: PG Brief summary: Hermione has a moment of struggle after the battle and Ron is there to support her. Any possible triggering/warning tags: None
Hiding ( Prompt/Day: Day 8, cloakroom at the Ministry.) Rating: G Brief summary: It’s hard to celebrate when so much has been lost. Any possible triggering/warning tags: Mention of death and war.
Until it’s over (Prompt/Day: 11 – “A wedding reception”) Rating: G Brief summary: “Come and dance,” said Ron abruptly. Hermione looked up at him, surprised, but incapable to hold back a smile. Maybe he had listened when she’d said that next time there was a ball, he should have asked her before someone else did, and not as a last resort.
Or, the brief story of a whispered promise made during a long due dance.
Any possible triggering/warning tags: None
+Disclaimer: There are a couple of freely quoted lines from HP (GoF and DH)
Soul Searching (Prompt: 1 - Hermione admits she’s wrong ) Rated K Brief Summary: Hermione admits the way she went about House Elf rights when she was younger wasn’t quite how she should have handled things. Content Warning: None Notes: This is very AU and contains an in-depth discussion of house-elf rights.
Something Growing (Prompt/Day: 14 - Ron leaves for a mission) Rating: K Brief summary: Hermione’s pregnant— and she’s freaking out. She’s always been good at everything, but she’s not sure that’ll hold for being a mother; however, when Ron gets home earlier than expected, she realizes she doesn’t need to be great at everything so long as she’s got him beside her. Content Tags: brief mention of contraceptive charms and trying for a baby, but only in those words— nothing more than that

I was tagged by @candle-jill to post “some of my formative influences – different pieces of media that explain a lot about why i am the way i am.”
Pieces of media listed alphabetically, not in order of importance/chronologically/etc.
I am not active enough on here to tag other folks. If you read this and want to do it, feel free to tag me as your influence (I'd love to see it, this stuff fascinate me!!)
The Aristocrats - As an animal-lover who has only owned and loved cats, this was one of the only movies where cats were the protagonist and dogs were the antagonist. It made me feel less bad about myself. Also, I love the female-empowerment here. The dame who left her fortune to her cats. The mama cat who was unimpressed by the handsome cat until he proved he could love her babies as much as he loved her. Fuck yeah. Never settle!
Dragon Ball Z - Idk this is probably the opposite of female-empowerment 🤣 I just remember being enamored by this show.
HP Gof - HP in general was an influence (still is, tbh) but this book in particular. I'm in the US but I had this exact UK edition (probably got it at a second-hand store). Harry's isolation and anxiety resonated with me, as an athlete in an individual sport. Quidditch, as a team sport, wasn't very relatable for me. But the tournament, where Harry is almost completely on his own to perform well, yeah, I felt that in my soul.
Then his most important person (2nd task - Ron) was his best friend, not someone romantic. Also resonates deeply with me. My friends have always been more important than relationships. They've also broke my heart worse than relationships. I could go on and on about the other aspects of this book, but I'll stop here.
Hollywood Undead - I saw them live at a club when I was in HS. It changed my life. The music is rock/rap and filthy. I fell in love with concerts, the energy, the depravity of it. Then I met the band and they were so fucking nice and respectful. Granted, us kids were 16 and my friend's mom was with us. But it's not what I expected. People lump this music with bad stuff, but we're not bad. This let me feel good about loving this music.
Only the Ring Finger Knows - Possibly the first yaoi I read. It was romantic and sexual. I remember the girl I borrowed it from in HS. I knew it was different that I liked boys together rather than hetero romances (I mean, I liked those too, but not like THIS). She made me feel ok that I liked it. I still appreciate that.
Pocahontas - I grew up in Virginia, where this takes place. So I learned that things didn't happen like the movie, at a very young age. It shattered the innocent rose-colored glasses we're all born with. I was happy for the truth tho. I always wanted the thruth after that, didn't want the romantic, watered-down version.
Queer as Folk - I blame this for my lust of age gaps. Justin (17) with Brian (29) still one of the hottest fucking things I've seen on TV. For someone in the rural South, this taught me a lot about LGBTQ+ culture. It's out-dated now (mostly) but I remember the amazement I felt that a whole other subculture and lifestyle existed. I wanted to move to Pittsburgh to discover it, to be a part of it.
Honorable mentions - Mulan, Motocrossed, That's So Raven, Avatar TLA, Flowers in the Attic (book), Law & Order SVU, Golden Girls, Next (on MTV)

Do you have any particular examples of Harry taking Ron for granted? Like I'm trying to come up with something specific, but my answer ends up being "just in general". Like, he's been pushed aside his whole life and chooses to continue to be pushed aside because he loves Harry, and Harry just doesn't get or appreciate that. But there's really no one particular time where it's shown besides Hermione's comment in GOF.
So I’ll preface this all by saying I think Harry is a very good lad, and was a good friend to Ron in the series. So this criticism I’m about to lay out is NOT a Harry bashing post. I love him. He’s literally in my top 5 fave characters for the series.
So! That said, let’s get into it.
Harry rarely thanks Ron for anything he does. (That I could find relying on my memory and doing word search in my digital copies- let me know if I’m wrong.) And sort of just takes Ron’s support as a given thing- and doesn’t seem all that grateful for all Ron does in the series. He only seems to truly appreciate Ron when Ron’s not around- then doesn’t really bother to communicate this to Ron himself
Book 1:
It’s just little things of not really taking in how Ron backs him up: Ron’s guiding him through the wizarding world, he is his second when he’s challenged to a wizard duel, he’s getting his brother to bail out Hagrid w/ the dragon (who at that point is really Harry’s friend, not his) and got injured with it too, he’s writing his mum to make sure Harry gets a christmas present, and he sacrifices himself on the chess set so Harry and Hermione can go forward.
Harry literally never gives a ‘thanks’ to Ron for any of this. I couldn’t even find much in the way of mental gratitude for it.
The one time he thanks Ron is at the end of the book when Ron invites Harry over to stay that summer. That same scene Harry’s getting random people telling him ‘bye Harry!’ and then Ginny is running and pointing saying ‘Oh look it’s him!’ but she’s not pointing to her brother- she’s pointing to Harry. Then Mrs Weasley greets Harry instead of her son as well. :(
Book 2:
He never thanks Ron in this book.
This is the same book where Ron convinces his twin brothers to help him steal the family car to break Harry out of the Dursleys, and then has him stay in his bedroom the rest of summer. Ron’s backing him up the whole book (wand included) and giving Harry pep talks when he thinks he’s going crazy, and is just there for him the whole time. He freaking helps put him in pajamas when Harry’s arm is all boneless. Like, the doting… And Harry again just… doesn’t seem to register how doting Ron is? Even mentally?
Book 3:
Harry finally verbally thanks Ron, and it’s not at the end of the book. It’s for candy he brought Harry from Hogsmeade…
I mean it just sort of goes like that…. He just never Thanks Ron. Ron backs him up in battles, stands on a broken leg for him, risks his life to help him, shares what little he has with him, and Harry just… barely ever verbalizes thanks? Shows basically no gratitude to his friend who risks his life for him?
The things he thanks Ron for are more out of politeness… like… I get it. It’s hard to verbalize things like that (and no offense to Brits, but they aren’t as gushy as some cultures with thanks.)
But… Harry has managed to be particularly withholding from Ron.
book 4
he misses Ron so thoroughly, and is so upset- but he’s unable to verbalize this to Ron at all. After their fight he doesn’t try to understand Ron’s perspective, even when Hermione sort of hamfistedly explains things to him (i get it, he’s mad- but I thoroughly believe Harry was the one that made a small disagreement become a ‘giant fight- and now well I guess the friendship is dead’ situation.’ All because, for the first time in the series- Ron isn’t immediately completely in his corner (like, he was just skeptical and hurt when the ‘fight’ begins- but Harry attacks Ron.)
Ron goes to check on him during their fight Harry gets pissed and throws a badge at his face, as well as accusing Ron of being jealous of his scar. It finally resolves- and Ron’s the one to fix things. Harry made no effort to, and does not acknowledge his part in their fight.
Harry loves Ron SO much- and verbalizes it niente.
I mean at least Ron got to feel a touch of how much he means to Harry- not because of anything Harry does- just because of the tournament. When Ron’s the thing he would miss most Hermione is someone else’s ‘thing they’d miss most’- so I doubt this made Ron feel this meant he was actually Harry’s person. But at least he had something.
Book 5
Harry’s screaming at Ron quite a lot, as Ron is trying to comfort him and be there for him- literally being the one to help him when he has nightmares or sicks onto the floor.
Now, they have a history of Ron being there for him, body and soul- and when Ron is given the prefect badge Harry is jealous- but then mentally he thinks ‘no, Ron actually DOES deserve this’- but doesn’t tell him this. Ron has cheered Harry through every quidditch game, through tasks, through crazy shit- and is his hype guy. He bucks Harry up a LOT in the books. Harry finally tells Ron ‘well done, mate.’
He saw how Ron was being treated by everyone when he got his badge. He knows Ron’s insecure. He knows this is something Ron saw in the mirror at age 11. That’s all he says on it. He doesn’t say Ron deserved it when Ron is saying ‘I thought it’d be you.’ He instead says how he himself was disqualified for causing too much trouble. That was it. :[ No ‘you did loads, Ron.’ ‘I think you’ll do well.’ Nah. Just a ‘congratulations.’ Like……………………………………………………… Maybe I’m just over effusive, but if someone is my best friend I’d say somethign more than 3 words in FIVE WHOLE YEARS.
Ron is a wreck in book 5 between prefect torture from the twins, and quidditch and the bullying- and Harry is finally a bit more there for Ron. He tells him he thinks he’ll do well on the team and he thinks he should try out. He tries to boost Ron’s morale quite a lot!
And when Harry is no longer on the team, this support starts to wane. For the final game Harry aND Hermione skip out to do Hagrid crap. Neither of them apologize. Ron almost immediately swallows his disappointment and never mentions it again. They never think on it again and show no signs of guilt beyond them telling Ron they missed the game. He had this giant triumph- the first the school had recognized since first year- and that was that.
So, Ron nearly dies in book 5- Harry understandably is very shaken by Sirius’s death- but he doesn’t think to inquire about Ron (or anyone.) He barely talks to his friends (again it’s understandable! Harry’s in shock and deep mourning.)
So yeah… I mean it just keeps going, doesn’t it? Harry mentally feels like Ron is SO important to him- but never SAYS anything like that, and doesn’t show it much through actions either…
Book 6
Harry saved Ron in book 6- but he’s saved loads of people. When Ron is dealing with ermione problems he does nothing to intervene or help- when he sees the slow motion car wreck happening- and then skips out on Ron whenever Lavender’s around.
He’s more there for Ron than in previous books- but still Ron does SO much emotional labor in their relationship- and never gets a hint of recognition. Harry joins in on teasing and even helps set up Gin to make a joke at Ron’s expense :P I love teasing between friends! Don’t get me wrong, but Ron gets mocked a lot my his siblings- he does’t need his best friend teaming up with one :P
SO! Final book!
Ron is doing SO MUCH to help Harry. The ghoul, leaving his family in a very very dangerous state, constantly backing him up and nearly dying- and frankly he’s right- Harry DOESN’T have a plan. It’s frankly ridiculous how unplanned everything is.
They have the terrible horcrux fight- and instead of acknowledging Ron’s fears at all- he mocks Ron and tells him to leave. Twice. Now Ron was being an asshole too in this scene- but only ONE of them was WEARING the Horcrux and being particularly targeted- and it wasn’t Harry.
When Harry gets Ron back- and he saves his life and he finally sees what all Ron had been tortured with he FINALLY addresses Ron’s pain for a bit. He also FINALLY acknowledges Ron for doing things for him. Of course it’s framed in the whole ‘don’t worry about your eff up- you did all this tonight so that makes up for it!’ way- but this is the first time Harry has ever truly acknowledged Ron’s contributions in the whole series, that I can recall.
Ron’s been his friend who was there for him for everything- and this is the only time he gets this sort of ‘thanks’ from Harry the whole series.
So there we go.
I have to say, again, I don’t think Harry is a bad person- or that he’s the worst friend in the world or anything. He loves Ron very deeply and shows he cares through actions, wanting to spend his quality time with Ron, and showing respect for him (most of the time.) Like, he TRUSTS Ron, and I think Ron recognizes it as a sign of affection. It’s a good thing too, because Harry’s not the easiest friend. He’s moody, he’s a bit thoughtless, he comes with BAGGAGE, and will almost never give verbal gratitude for all the sacrifices.
He barely acknowledges the sacrifices mentally. And that’s why I feel Harry takes Ron for granted.

Here's another something frightening about Harry Potter. (I have so many of those headcanons that Hogwarts is terrifying.)
Justin Finch-Fletchley was going to go to Eton. Hermione Granger is, well, Hermione Granger, if her parents were going to send her off to boarding school they'd have sent her to, like, wherever gets her into Oxford by age 15. And yet they go to Hogwarts. HOGWARTS. Some school they've never heard of, where they aren't going to be educated with royalty and nobility and diplomats' kids, or be on track for their first doctorate by 25, or anything. Hogwarts doesn't have math, or foreign languages, or even literature. What kind of school doesn't teach literature, Muggle parents ask? (And ask, and ask, so many questions, so much ignorant disapproval and distrust about a perfectly normal and clearly objectively better education, how very frustrating!)
And what do good wizards do when faced with Muggles frustrating them?
Well, you can't Obliviate Muggleborn parents. They do need to remember Hogwarts exists so they can send their child there. But Confunding them, now... that's just sensible. And bonus, it makes all refusals and need for in-depth explanations stop.
Now, personally I think that the acceptance letters arrive in the third week of June, period. But fandom likes to go with arriving on the eleventh birthday (or a week before, since that's when Harry's actually started to arrive), so let's go with that. Hermione Granger is the oldest of her year. She gets her Hogwarts letter barely halfway through September in 5th grade, or whatever the last year of elementary is called in England.
See above for what happens next. Because Hermione's parents Have Questions, and the Hogwarts representative -- even if it's McGonagall, okay, because refusal to send a child to magical school just doesn't compute for any magical person -- eventually has to Confund them to get their agreement.
Even if Hermione doesn't witness this, and why would she not I have to ask, she has literal months to ask her parents all the zillion questions she would have by nature about her schooling. First and foremost with, "but weren't you going to send me to [accelerated prestigious school]?"
Ladies, gentlemen, and nonbinary peeps, I present to you: a Hermione Granger who discovers her parents have been Confunded, months before starting Hogwarts. She's getting the kind of super-creep vibes of pod people or Stepford wives on this one topic, always the same kind of vaguely-intoned sentence, "you're going to Hogwarts, dear, where you get to learn magic", and with magic a proven fact there is clearly only one conclusion to come to.
Hermione Granger's trust in authority is broken. So now we have a Hermione Granger with the brakes off.
(You may take a moment to shiver in mortal terror. You are much more sensible than the wizarding world, after all.)
Pushing isn't working on her parents. The magicals are a threat, they've already hurt her family. It's time to get sneaky.
Dear Professor Hogwarts Person, I am so so so excited to come to Hogwarts and learn magic! I really want to learn everything! Can I get books to read beforehand? Can I meet my future magical classmates? The ones in the normal world like me, I mean, I'm sure there are kids with witch parents who have told them lots already and wouldn't understand how new it all is to us. I wouldn't want to bother you of course, an address list would be fine, I am just SO SUPER EXCITED about MAGIC! Sincerely, Hermione Granger, age 11
Now, Hogwarts has some serious failures with privacy policies (see: Rita Skeeter netting zero reaction from the school in GoF) or giving a damn about Muggleborn rights, so she gets the address list and a book catalog with Gringotts currency conversion, orders everything that looks even halfway relevant and doesn't have an age restriction on it, and starts visiting other Muggleborns.
Did they get your parents too? We can't trust this. I've read about a lot more things than stranger danger and this has all the signs of a cult. We can't get out of it, they've already come after our parents, but if we try to go it alone we'll probably get brainwashed even knowing what's happening. We have to band together.
La Resistance is born. All the Muggleborns of Hermione's year are in it. They plot strategy, they pre-Sort themselves based on Hermione's reading -- Hermione is a shoo-in for Ravenclaw, they can't hide her intelligence but they can hide her determination, right? -- they set themselves up in smaller House cells so they can hold meetings and pass information around without having to get together in large noticeable groups. They're scared stiff but they got this.
And then Hermione discovers Harry on the train. He's Muggle-raised and no one knew. He's the biggest target for the brainwashing, and by everything Hermione's read he's being groomed as a sacrificial war figurehead for the front lines, and he's clueless. THIS WILL NOT STAND.
Harry: But... but Ron was nice... are you saying he's out to get me? Hermione: Harry, no, of course not. He was raised in the system, he doesn't know anything's wrong. No one had to hurt his parents to get him in the school. Harry: Then shouldn't he know? Hermione: ..... Maybe. We'll discuss it. (The debate about including halfbloods and purebloods rages for months. They need to get the idea out that wizarding society is not okay, get allies for the future, but they also need to protect themselves.)
Hermione: A broom and the Seeker position? They aren't even trying to be subtle! Harry: I know, isn't it stupid? Hermione: What are you going to do? Harry: Well I'm going to take it, of course. Don't want them getting suspicious.
When Harry gets no letters over summer break, he clings to the idea that social isolation is a thing cults do. Dobby's visit and return of the letters just proves that Hermione is 10000% right.
Harry is not ostracized by the Muggleborns in any year. Not after losing a ridiculous number of points for the dragon in first, not after the Heir of Slytherin, not after the Goblet of Fire... none of it. The cult is so clearly trying to get Potter. They will not abandon him to that.
La Resistance actually never does anything to Draco. They want to, ohhhh do they want to, but he is far too useful as a loudmouth barometer of what wizarding society really thinks.

OKAY BUT WIZARDS DND...
Idk where this came from it's very early and so I apologise if this is written dumb....
so we know the wizards have "wizards chess" that moves on it's own and what not. What about dnd?
I have two thoughts on this and I'll explain both:
1) it's normal dnd but the die roll them selves, the character figures move them selves on the map to where you say they are and they actually fight, the map its self moves. Say the DM has said your characters are walking on a cobbled path, the map then has a cobbled pathway that your characters actually walk down, like the little figures walk on the spot but the image underneath them moves so it looks like they're walking???? Also you know in GoF where Harry and that lot have to pick the they're dragon and they get tiny versions, what if you had those as the bosses, you characters would then fight mini dragons !! (I can't remember if they're actually real alive things or what but if they are then maybe not because like animal cruelty?) But also if you watch Adventure Time it could work like "Card Wars" but without the cards, the DM summons the bosses and they appear from the board.
Idea 2) it's muggle..... So dnd is very much seen as a thing that only really nerdy people do or what ever (if it wasn't stereotyped as a game meant for guy who live in there mum's basement and that in the media I think it would be a game more people would play because it's cool af) anyway what if in the wizard world it was aimed at people like Arthur Weasley? In love with muggles a bit to much, so in the version of dnd (Drive and Dogs? Dick and Dom? Dream and Dine? Idk if you think of names that'll be great) you make a character, gender, race, name, age, height, small life story maybe traumatic maybe well off, and where they're from. You go about doing normal things, go to school work and what not and the decisions you make and the actions you take change how you do at work or school or your relationships. Your stats will help you in different things, if you have high charisma you're more likely to talk your way into a bar or to get a promotion!! You can go about and live what we would call a "normal life", maybe you get a dog, have kids, grow old... (Yes I know this is kinda like the sims but in a way thats kinda the point, or even game of Life but longer. If a muggle life "simulator") it would would very similar to my first idea, the DM would say your character needs to go to work so you say you'll drive and a car appears and your character then drives to work?? It again it would be like the image underneath the character would move and change to look like a road or pavement or the work office or school class room. And NPCs would come up from the map again like "Card Wars" from Adventure Time
Thank you,
If anyone wants to make art of this please do omg I wanna see art of wizards playing muggle dnd...
#headcannons#wow idk where that came from but it was a journey#i hooe you enjoyed#please the or what ever if you habe any about either idea#and art would be amazing ;)#dnd#DnD#dnd character#dnd oc#dnd game#dungens and dragons#dungens and drangons game#dm#dungen master#harry potter#harry potter dnd#harry potter universe#harry potter related#muggles#wizards#wizards unite#arthur weasley#weasley#hprp community#d20error#critical role

Would you ever consider writing some demi or grey-ace Ron headcanons? I can easily imagine Ron being so confused about it, there he is, kissing Lavender, a beautiful and kind girl, and just not /feeling/ it. He knows everything is in working order, he knows he likes girls, he doesn't mind kissing her, but whenever her hands start to wander it just doesn't feel right.
Oh honey... I let my mind wander while I was out wandering in the 0*C for six hours. Hang onto your britches because I went overboard on this one:
Ace-Spectrum!Ron HC... (please bear in mind that they were thought up to solidify how I see/write/portray Ron in my writing, since I do see him as Hermione focused for the most part. (And this will be a Lavender-appreciation zone, too.)
Ron, being ickle, overhears how Big Brother Bill is talking about someone he's dating (he didn't quite catch a name) and all he can think is, "Ewww, that's icky."
Brother Charlie is the one he trusts more than Bill because Charlie "never talks about girls that way and rather talk about Chess, and Quidditch, and Dragons." Charlie never talks about icky things, like girls.
Even when he sees his parents being more affectionate, beyond a hug (They do have 7 kids, so you know that it's not just Molly being over-bearing) he turns his head.
Quoting The Princess Bride, "Is this a book where there's a lot of kissing? Can we skip those parts?"
When he's older and finally attending Hogwarts as a firstie, he stumbles across his brother Percy snogging Penelope in a broom closet, mistaking it for a loo. They don't see him (they are rather preoccupied) and he stares for a moment and then quietly leaves, wondering what all the fuss is.
Ron accidentally stumbles into the loo at home and finds Percy *in an awkward moment* (cough) and backs out of the loo, wondering what all of the fuss is.
He goes to bed that evening, hearing the ghoul banging on the pipes in the attic, and decides to see what all of the fuss is. Suffice to say, it does absolutely nothing for him.
On the train ride the first time, and meeting Harry, he feels something. It's a first, really - someone who makes his heart flutter just a bit more. He's glad to share space and time with Harry and is absolutely delighted when Harry tells Malfoy off. (Whom he knows from listening to his father regail things from work over games of chess in the evening at home.)
Harry gets sorted into Gryffindor and he does too and he's so incredibly appreciative to have a friend that isn't a hand-me-down. It's something *only he* has - his friendship with Harry.
*The troll incident on Halloween* Harry and Ron make it back to their dorm after having been given cover by Hermione who they think can be their friend now since they saved her and talk late into the night, including how Ron made that club the troll was carrying levitate so easily when he had trouble in class. Ron sleeps well into the next morning, a peaceful night's sleep.
*Spending time with Harry is the brightness that keeps the negative thoughts at bay, most of the time. It's like the voices berating him constantly, a drumbeat of things he made messed up and the mistakes he made were a little more quiet, a little less harmful.
*In PoA, after Buckbeak's judgment, they are all under the Invisibility cloak. Ron, being the tallest, catches a whiff of Hermione's hair and he has a fleeting thought of "wow, Hermione's hair smells nice."
Hermione’s tenacity and determination, along with force of will, is something he appreciates.
*In GoF, when Ron is stuck wearing grotty manky robes, he sees Hermione (while he’s standing next to a very pretty Padma) and feels, for the first time, his stomach get a butterfly.*
*In OotP, he finds himself spending plenty of time with Hermione (since the twins are being gits and Ginny is hanging out with them mostly) while cleaning. The fumes from the cleaning solutions do nothing to keep the mad rush of 4 butterflies flying around like bludgers in his stomach settling down*
*When Hermione gives him a kiss on the cheek, for good luck, the 4 butterflies multiply to 16. But eventually, like joke galleons, they dissipated back to 4*
He never forgets the feeling of those 16 butterflies bouncing around like rogue bludgers
*HBP happens and the problems grow exponentially. When he finds out that Hermione kissed Viktor first, he gets irate. He's not so much irate that she did that but it's that everyone but him knew and didn't tell him. The pangs of hurt run so deep. The betrayal of not being told hurts the worst.
*Everything is going wrong with Hermione, even if he's mostly forgiven her for doing that but not for not telling him. They are best friends, aren't they? She kept secrets from him. The break in trust hurts worse. So it's quite obvious that she doesn't feel the same way he does.*
"Maybe if I go snog the first person who shows me some interest it'll be better*
*But it actually isn't. He wanted it as a once off but Lavender was amenable and appreciative and feelings of validation are there. She's nice, she's attentive, she's a bright ray of sunshine but that level of trust just isn't there. He finds that he just can’t talk with her on the level he needs - and doesn’t have that emotional intimacy built on trust. It's fun but the things he grew up believing, that you only should be that close to someone you intend to marry hampers anything else that happens.
(Thanks to @vivithefolle for me seeing him as a Prude/Ace for that!)
They fool around some and he discovers that the things that the twins told him about that happen when guys are into girls just doesn't happen with him.
But he knows he’s not gay. That’s for the other buggers in the dorm room, Seamus and Dean.
He sends a letter off to Charlie one afternoon when Harry is off with Dumbledore and Lavender and Parvati are in Divination, asking his brother questions about such feelings.*
He gets a letter back in a fortnight, explaining so many things, including how it's OK if you don't feel something for a girl snogging you. But you do right by her and break it off with her because using someone isn't right.*
Charlie also mentions that if he feels a certain way for Harry that those feelings are valid too. "But the thing is, little brother, is that you can love someone so much without having the desire to shag them 'til their body explodes."
Charlie talks about Tonks and Ron appreciates that story.
"And before anyone tells you anything else, yes, you can feel that way towards more than one person in your life. No one says that you can't love more than one person at a time. Only Mum’s trashy novels she claims to never read tells her that.”
He realizes that it's not Lavender he loves, even if he does appreciate what he's gotten from her.
Poor Ron has no clue how to do that without hurting her. Things continue, including how mean and petty and spiteful Hermione is towards him
He gets poisoned and is in the Hospital wing for days on end. Hermione shows up one afternoon, when he's kind of awake, but out of it, and he hears her voice. The butterflies return. He hears her talking, the occasional sniff, and warmth, like he took a pepper-up potion, works through his system. It's a feeling he's never quite had with Lavender, as sweet as she is. But he still has no clue how to break it off with her.
Lavender handles it instead and he’s quietly relieved, even if he knows he was a cold sod for it.
When Harry is yelling at him to go, and they are rowing, the ache inside his soul hurts so.damn.much.
Those weeks without both of them were the absolute worst of his entire life - even when he’s white-haired and bent over with age. Nothing else came remotely close.
After the locked tormented him one last time, and Ron is completely broken, Harry is still there. He tells him that He's not interested in Hermione. They’re friends. They are practically siblings.
"But I thought - "
"Look, mate, we both need you. Can’t you tell?”
Ron considers that he can love both of his best friends, even if it's possible in different ways. That realization is an enormous firework going off in his soul.
That first snog was like the expansive fireworks going off. It's better than Firewhiskey, better than treacle tart, or even chocolate cake. It’s like he’s finally found the home he craved and wanted.
But there's Harry, whom he has shared everything and then more. He would love to continue to share everything with him since he's pretty much half of his heart.
And Hermione is half of it.
Ron comes to realize that the two of them are the portions of his heart but he's the entire muscle pumping away, keeping them working, safe, feeling needed and wanted.
Because his heart is his two best friends, whom he loves equally and just as passionately. He loves them the same but in different ways.
They all have a sit-down at some point and hash things out for good.
There are some parts that Hermione just doesn't get, understand, or appreciate. There are some parts that Harry just doesn't get, understand, or appreciate. Both know how Ron feels towards both of them and agree on how they share him.
Ron, finally, sleeps well that night, having both of them on each side of him, sleeping comfortably, for the first night in years.
Because his best friends love him, even if they are absolutely pants at telling him that. But damn if they don't show him in their own ways.
And that is how I see Ron and Harry and Hermione - because the love is there along with the deep emotional intimacy required to love both of those headstrong and absolutely stubborn best friends of his.
