I think a lot less people would feel threatened by the prospect of a character being aroace if they learnt how to conceptualize and write character relationships and dynamics outside of sex and romance. Because as long as people think no longer being able to write both characters in their favourite dynamic being sexually and romantically attracted to each other means a loss in intimacy and closeness, they're going to see any aroasexuality as an attack on character dynamics they care about and get upset when characters are confirmed aroace, unless those characters are unshippable side characters they never really cared about so they never accidentally get invested in an aroace character.

I've been lucky to support you since the early Kickstarter days, and it's been amazing to watch the site grow.
With recent concerns around Visa, Mastercard, and Steam, there’s been renewed discussion about the threat of a broader NSFW ban. That's something that also looms over other sites like Patreon.
Do you think similar pressure from credit card companies could ever impact PF? And do you see a possibility in the future for people to monetize their work directly through PF — whether through a model similarly to Patreon or something else?
Thanks so much for all the hard work ! :)
We recently made a post regarding this over on Pillowfort! The short answer regarding a NSFW ban is no: we already use a payment processor that deals in "high risk" clients such as those that host adult content. We encourage anyone curious to read the full post here:

Note: xAI got served with a cutoff notice on Thursday for not paying their electric bill.
So if they are delinquent, I sure AF am not turning off my AC (not when it's from 27-38* daily) 'cause unlike them, we pay our bills.

"But pregnancy is what your body was made for"
Yeah, and then a male fucked it up by treating a viral illness with steroids when I was under the age of 12 and completely fucked up my endocrine and hormone systems. No amount of medicine will fix medical malpractice 40 years prior.
So while I might not be built for fucking pretty women & consuming buttloads of weed, my bipedal ape anatomy does mean I can go hike the mountains I love to see and explore.
(Note: still married to my spouse who I do f* with regularity, and don't smoke 'cause I need the lungs for hiking those mountains I love to explore.)
"But pregnancy is what your body was made for"
Actually my body was made for fucking pretty women and consuming buttloads of weed, thanks for asking
#Being AroAce can be confusing#Being married to Grey Ace husband fits well for us#Kiddo doesn't ask & glad for it#Though if I did I sure would make sure my partner would enjoy it

The Princess can only be awoken from her slumber by her true love, but countless Princes have failed to do so. When a poor townsman is successful, the royals try to dispose of the man and convince the Princess that one of the Princes is her true love.

TW: medical stuff
So I got the stitches out & can now wash my hand (needs a manicure and massage!), but the scar doesn't look cool yet. I'm still on restricted duty for 3 more weeks (no washing dishes without rubber gloves, no yard work, etc) and start therapy for it later this week.
Biggest laugh in all of this is... got a mail from the Insurance co that denied the procedure.... 3 days after it was done/pre-approved. So I have to spend some time tomorrow sorting that mess out. Mum asked which group, and I replied, "Luigi's favourite one" and she rolled her eyes at me.
It'll be sorted soon. Wish I didn't have to waste time on it.
All of this doesn't fix the primary problem but working towards that. if I can manage it, I'll have it done on my anniversary or kiddo's b'day in December.
Still alive....
Surgery went well & was a bit of an experience, considering I didn' t let them put me to sleep for it (for reasons!) and learning to use my other hand for basic self-care was eye-opening. The pain relievers... didn't really relieve them so much as make me barely care.
While that fixed *a* problem it hasn't remedied the main problem.
Two of my sisters have said they would help when that problem is medically addressed (glad for it!) and after that major affair, only 1 more thing to fix.
That will wait 'til next summer.
Mom helped with minimal grumbling for doing my daily workload for her and the hubs helped some. (Dunno where they got the idea that I am picky about how they do chores. Might be projection!) Suffice to say, I'm released from care for the hand on Monday. (and celebrating by having some delicious Goat Rogan Josh!)
Hope everyone is doing well!

Okay so this is a big deal
To me, and to a significant subset of Sir Terry's fans (including most of you who've found this by the tags), his writing is serious commentary on the human condition - politics, prejudice, self-control, revenge vs. justice, religion, idealism, faith in people vs. cynicism, and more - dressed up with fantasy settings and a hefty leavening of humor to make it fun to read. And it is WILDLY fun to read, actual laugh-out-loud or at least a snicker averaging about every page.
But there's this common idea among the "important literature" people that fun and funny books are not also worthwhile or important in the same way.
This is a Discworld book being released WITH ACADEMIC COMMENTARY and AS A PENGUIN CLASSIC. That's a HUGE amount of recognition.

It should be illegal to have a bus stop without a bench, and no armrests should be built into the bench as a deterrent.
Saw so many benches now with armrails to prevent the unhoused from finding comfort in the last 2 trips taken.
It should be illegal to have a bus stop without a bench I am 1000% serious rn

I have invites available. If anyone wants one (And you know me)
HMU. I'll send you one.
You should get an AO3 account
With the rise of AI and the well known epidemic of AI companies scraping Ao3 for training data most authors on Ao3 have locked down their fics to logged in users only. This is unfortunate for authors and readers. As an author I've noticed a steep drop in readership on fics restricted to logged in users and when recommending fics to my friends I've noticed that the folks without an account can't find the fics. The logged in users only toggle, not only keeps people without an account from reading a fic, but also from seeing its listing at all. More than 50% of fics I come across have this setting turned on. So, you should get an AO3 account. I know this seems daunting and unfair because it's an invite only system but, you can invite yourself through the homepage if you don't already have one, and in the past few years I've never heard of someone who requested an invitation through this method, not getting one. And for those of you who are hesitant because you don't write, that's okay. It's not weird at all to click on a commenter username and find that they have 0 works and 10,000 bookmarks. It might take a week for the invitation to actually show up, but I can almost guarantee you will get one, just keep an eye on your email. It's free to join and donations are optional. You'll have more to read if you have an account and maybe give your favorite author the chance to protect their work from AI without a loss of readership and feedback.

Despite the convenience it brings, I really hate what streaming has done to television. If a show doesn't become a "cultural phenomenon" like Stranger Things or Squid Game, then it doesn't see completion.
Even a show that improves in quality season after season and finally becomes something great, can get cancelled. But Prime Video was never interested in creating a great show, they were taking a shot in the dark for a mega hit revenue machine.
I thought Wheel of Time was doing well enough, but apparently "well enough" isn't going to cut it these days.

Twitter thread by Melissa Caruso about a labyrinthine magical bookstore in Syracuse, NY. Link to the first tweet in the thread; most pictures have image descriptions! Now here are the screenshots of that thread:

And then a hero of the labyrinthine magical bookstores of the world put all the bookstores that people listed in the replies on a map! (Google Maps link)
