The Pankratz family is renowned for being Dragon Slayers, having mastered the art of defeating any dragon on their own for generations.

Jaskier, born Julian Alfred Pankratz, is often questioned about his family's history. Even Geralt is curious about how his flamboyant bard could hail from a line of dragon slayers.

What no one, not even Geralt, knows is the family's centuries-old secret: The Pankratz family has been perpetrating one of the greatest scams ever known.

They don't slay dragons. They are dragons.

Jasker is a dragon, sure. But he prefers his human form. He prefers pretty clothing and lutes over his scales and wings. He hasn't a hoard yet. He thinks. He's never truly cared for gold, though he knows that not all dragons have hoards of gold. That's just the default. What if he did have a hoard, and it just wasn't some boring old gold pieces? At first he thought his hoard must be his many exuberant outfits, but when he got into a scuffle and one outfit was ruined, he was disappointed but that was it. There was no anguish, no mourning, no big depressive meltdown over it's destruction... So probably not a hoard. Just an interest. He then thought it must be his songs. But when he heard a bard in some town playing one of his songs, he didn't erupt into scales and roars. He didn't burn down a city. He didn't even rip out his hair or anything. He wasn't even mad. He thinks you'd be more possessive and jealous over a hoard. He was mostly proud. The bard said it was a song he didn't write, he said it was by Jaskier, and he sang it quite well. But even if he didn't do any of those things, Jaskier would be mad, sure, maybe even mad, but never MAD. He thought of lovers being his hoard, but the thought went away very quickly. None of his lovers stay, and though it stings sometimes, he thinks he'd be flinging himself off a cliff if a treasure of his hoard literally got up and walked away from him. And then one day he meets a Witcher. The witcher looks at him with these piercing golden eyes, and Jaskier feels an audible shift in his soul, his being. He found it. His treasure. Maybe witchers are his hoard, and Geralt is just his first one. Maybe his hoard is just friends he meets. He doesn't know, all he knows is that he can't stop himself from staring at the gold of Geralt's eyes. Perhaps Jaskier does care for gold.

Today we really get called homophobic /queerphobic for nothing these days.

Because I don't 100% appreciate (without completely hating it, I remind you, I still can't wait to see what Franchaela will give us) the gender change from Michael to Michaela in Bridgerton.

Because I hope we don't change Benedict's romance with Sophie with a man instead, by also changing Sophie's gender for example (although fortunately that shouldn't happen at all).

Because I don't like Rhaenicent (even though this queerbaiting ship doesn't even have a place in the dance of the dragons storyline).

Because I don't like Rhaesaria and I'm firmly against it (it comes out of nowhere and won't go anywhere and what's more it goes against both the character of Rhaenyra who would never cheat on Daemon and that of Mysaria who would never be sincere with Rhaenyra).

Because I don't like the identity and gender problems that the writers attributed to Rhaenyra who in HOTD wants to be a man (seriously, wtf ?), not to mention suddenly inventing her a bisexuality that she actually doesn't have in the original Fire and Blood canon.

The fact of making Jaskier in The Witcher also like men for a plot that serves no purpose ? It doesn't seem to me from what I remember that he also likes men in the books, however I remember that Ciri was on the other hand bisexual ?

So once again, why make a character who isn't queer in the books a character who is queer in the adaptation when you just have to adapt the ones who are queer ?!

Regardless, it kills me to be called homophobic / queerphobic because I disagree with some seriously questionable writing decisions.

Or worse, telling me that I'm homophobic /queerphobic for loving fictional problematic queer relationships... That's still a strong shitty argument.

By human standards, Jaskier was old when he climbed the mountain. In his forties, most would have already settled down and started families. But by dragon standards, Jaskier was still quite young; some might even say he should still be in the nest.

Jaskier didn’t fully align with either perspective. What he didn’t expect was Borch’s sharp instinct to recognize him as a young dragon and treat him accordingly.

Geralt, unaware that his bard is a dragon, found Borch’s unusual interest in Jaskier rather perplexing.
