So in 1901 an abridged version of Dracula was created, apparently by Stoker himself. In 1994, this version was reprinted under the title Dracula: The Rare Text of 1901. This republication is now out of print and seems to go for around 400 USD wherever copies are available (or 990 USD on Amazon).

Anyway, because I make terrible financial decisions, I have ordered a copy. It occurs to me that Dracula is in the public domain, so there's really nothing stopping me from making a PDF of the novel text with those same abridgments and giving it out to the world so that y'all can see without paying exorbitant amounts, is there?

I were cleaning Integra's room as usual when this situation occurred. Suddenly, I felt a strong aura and stopped dead in my tracks.Integra looked up at me.

"Are you okay Michael? "

I looked at her quickly.

"Yes, just-"

Seras suddenly runs in, interrupting me. She looked terrified. She starts talking some kind of nonsense that even I don't understand. Then the doors open completely and Alucard comes in with... Alucard and... old man!?

"What. The. Hell?!"

The one who looked like yours, Alucard, smiled broadly.

"Wow, I didn't think there would be a good horny here."

I gaped and before I could speak Alucard He glared at him and pulled out his weapon.

"What did you call him?"

Now you could tell them apart, The one who smiles you called Lulu, but... why is the other one standing there just staring at me? You decided to approach him.

"Uhh… Hi?"

He turned to You in surprise. Then I could see his facial features. As you saw, he had a black beard and mustache, and he also had red eyes. And for some reason he looked like…

"…Wait a minute! You–"

"Dracula, Yes, but it somehow doesn't look surprising… against the background of all this."

You nodded. After looking at how a fight is planned between Alucard and Alucard, and Integra is trying to scream and somehow stop them.

Time skip~

After a few hours of talking to Dracula and fighting between them, I I decided to find out what we should do about this situation.

"Umm…Integra?"

"What!?"

I put my hand on her shoulder to calm her down.

"I think we'll have to live with them... No matter how much you don't like it."

She looked at me with her one eye. And... she smile?

"Yes, I think you're right. And you'll have to take the responsibility and look after them... three."

Suddenly, the conversations of the three great vampires fell silent. I even feel like they're drilling a hole in me.

"W-Wait! I understand taking on one, but three?! And isn't Alu serving you!?"

"Yes, but I'm old and I don't want to get married. That's why you need to keep an eye on them and take care of them!"

I suddenly felt a breath behind my ears and on the back of my neck.

"Take care of us... please, Master."

"Please... and not about my wish list. Master"

"Please... fill my empty soul. Michael"

"Oh…God-"

"Are you calling me by my first name already?"

I have started reading the abridged Dracula text and making those abridgements to a document of the original 1897 text. I will probably make a side blog eventually to host the abridged PDF and maybe post each day of the 2026 Dracula Daily explaining what was cut.

So far I have read to May 12, and here are my observations on the abridgement:

Most of what is cut is description/conversation that does not directly advance the plot. On May 3, Jonathan's description of his dinner and how thirsty the paprika made him is gone (although the mention that the paprika might have caused his queer dreams remains). Dracula's explanation of the blue fire is missing from May 7, and most of his conversation about hiring multiple solicitors on May 12 has been removed.

Every part of Lucy's letter on May 11 that was not a plot point (i.e., everything that wasn't introducing Arthur and Jack, and her love for Arthur) is gone.

Some things you might think would be cut given my above description, but still remain:

A fair amount of description of the Borgo Pass

The driver exiting the carriage to follow the blue fire

Jonathan thinking that Mina would be upset with him for referring to himself as a solicitor's clerk

The bit where Dracula says Jonathan's name backward and then corrects himself

Alucard being used as a blithe pin cushion for the kukri becomes a running gag. He starts collecting all of Anderson's leftover bayonets to leave them at Jonathan's door like a cat gifting dead birds.

Seras getting to enjoy having comparatively sane conversations with someone (bonus points for getting an adamant sermon about how her vampirism does not inherently make her a monster, Jonathan knows his shit here)

I think he'd hack Walter into pieces after the big reveal. Just on principle. Not just for the present day betrayal, but the fact that once upon a time he'd risked the life of a child for the sake of his ambition. That shit doesn't fly.
