Emily and Wendell are both completely unhinged.
Imagine being captured by ice Fae in the middle of Odin-knows-where only to find an eccentric Irish professor moving in and out of trees while his emotion-allergic colleague stabs herself and starts making a sword out of her own tears and snow the minute you start coming to.
After about the third time the former hacks the same guy's head off you simply succumb to the fact you've entered the gates of Hell and start vomiting.

Something I’ve found really funny on re-reads of tafwvg is how Stockill is introduced as this cold, aloof, calculating character. He's almost presented as the more rational of the doctors, even with the whole create-a-plague-and-become-god thing. Only for the basement scenes to happen and that image gets completely shattered with the realisation of ‘oh, he’s pretty fuckin' unhinged actually…’
#even greavesly was like ‘dude wtf’#if *he* thinks it’s extreme#then you know it’s bad#The whole violet thing is a wild ride#can't believe we only get stockill's input on it like twice#three if we count the mention in 'nothing'#wish there was a little more foreshadowing for the jealousy motive#but i'm gonna cut myself off before this becomes an essay lmao#tafwvg#montmorency stockill#dr stockill#the asylum for wayward victorian girls#emilie autumn#rambles

"I felt like I had sworn in front of a princess!" Randall admitted with a shy laugh, the rest of his family laughing along as he rubbed the back of his neck: Though he would freely admit he could cuss a blue streak with the best of 'em, he tried to keep his mouth clean in public, and certainly keep it extra-clean in the presence of an upper-class young woman like Emily. Needless to say, his failing to do so absolutely mortified him in the moment, though he could certainly laugh about it now.
"I, uh...I didn't want to sound like I had no manners," he continued sheepishly, adding, "It, uh...it did take a while for her to convince me that she wasn't offended by my cursing-I felt awful, I really did, in the moment, though, I felt like it made it seem like I was born in a barn..."
"Awww, reminds me of when August and I first started getting to know each other," Josephine giggled amusedly, seeing a lot of similarities between her husband and grandson in the moment as she went on to explain just how nervous her future spouse was in the early days, very flustered being around such a confident, forward, and scantily clad woman (which quite flattered her, honestly).
"I used to have him over for coffee after performances, and bless his heart, he was so nervous-the only thing louder than his racing heartbeat was the way his cup used to clatter against his saucer! Well, one day, he got so wound up that he dropped his cup and spilled coffee all over the rug (which didn't bother me much; if anything, the coffee stain made that cheap ol' thing look better), and between his very rapid-fire apologies, I could hear him cursing under his breath, and that only made him apologize even more!"
"I'm not usually one for vulgarity," August admitted bashfully. "But I was just so frustrated and embarrassed by my inability to sit still that it just...slipped out, and I felt awful, just awful, swearing in the presence of a lady!"
Most people wouldn't bat an eye at swearing around someone in her profession, but he was a consummate gentleman to everyone he met, and so he didn't think twice about apologizing to her (even though, as she told him, she'd heard worse).
#((it would be *very* different! they really have brought so much warmth; there's been so many heartwarming moments))#((that have come from their presence on this blog and their appearances both in this series and in other au's!))#((i wouldn't trade it for anything! randall reconciling/having a better relationship with his father))#((emily having supportive parental figures in her life; june and wilhelm getting to be a part of their grandchildren's lives))#((so much good has come of it; and it's been so wonderful to explore!))#((and i agree; i think the burkes are an absolute shoe-in; and i'm so glad you've enjoyed getting to know them))#((AND i'm delighted to have sprung that on you out of the blue! i had it in my notes about august being a teacher))#((and it's been mentioned that josephine worked with fabric; but i just thought it would be really fun))#((if-keeping in the trend of the pace family being full of odd couples-if she had a wild streak))#((while august was more buttoned up and reserved! i admit i was watching 'abbott and costello meet dr. jekyll & mr. hyde'))#((and the leading lady in that film is a chorus girl as well as a suffragette in victorian-era london))#((which certainly ruffles a LOT of feathers and gets her in quite a bit of trouble; which doesn't faze her))#((and that gave me the idea of josephine being an ex-burlesque performer; i thought that would be really fun))#((and i knew it'd get a big reaction from both you and from emily! i'm absolutely DELIGHTED by the response to that! me post! ok ummm
( ... )
hi! my name is sibyl. i am eighteen years old and neurodivergent & psychotic! i am currently HEAVILY hyperfixated on gothic literature and the victorian era. so i've made a blog to satisfy my infodumping needs :P
my fav gothic novels include the picture of dorian gray & frankenstein. i'm sure that's what the majority of this blog will consist of.
content warning: because this blog centers around gothic media and is run by an adult, nsfw and violent themes will be discussed and WILL NOT be tagged. interact at your own risk
( ... )
i also want to warn that, because i'm autistic, i'm heavily critical of characters and media, even when it's something i like. i will speak negatively of a plethora of sources — if i do so and it upsets you, it'd be best if we don't interact! /nm
on top of that, being psychotic, i have delusional attachments to characters from the sources i speak about. do not reality check me. you don't have to support it, but checking me causes intense distress and tends to make my delusions worse. these characters include:
basil hallward
sibyl vane
elizabeth lavenza
i would prefer doubles don't interact, but i won't do anything if you do. so take that as you will
( ... )
ya so...... would love mutuals!!! but understand i have severe depression and anxiety and responding to messages and stuff is difficult for me to keep up with and makes me very nervous. BUT I STILL WANT MUTUALS!!!!! so feel free to hop into my askbox or messages!!!!!!!!
ok bye <3

category: fluff
content warnings: fluff, lighthearted teasing, clumsiness, obliviousness, reader is mentioned to be shorter than 5'7" (sorry it just worked for the story)
word count: 1.1k
a/n: hey anon! thanks for requesting, i think i may have verged away from the request on accident. also this is the one i posted about earlier that had been deleted by word so i had to rewrite it and therefore it's not very thoroughly proofread. hope you enjoy.
It came as a shock, most people needed to apply to the BAU and even then, they spent years trying to get in. You had gotten a call four months ago and were told you were leaving IOD in the Hoover building and would be expected at the BAU the next morning.
Years ago, you had a run-in with Emily Prentiss while she was heading Interpol in London, but you didn’t think she remembered you – let alone wanted to work with you. She brought you on to the team to help catch Peter Lewis
Now, Peter Lewis was dead, and Spencer Reid had been exonerated. You thought your time with the team was done, but when Emily caught you packing up your things, she told you she had no intentions of sending you back to the International Operation Division.
So, you made yourself comfortable at your desk across from Luke’s, even adding a picture of your family, just to make it seem a little lived-in.
It was something you’d had drilled into your head by your father: if you’re not early, you’re late. That was the reason why you were usually the first to the BAU, only sometimes being beaten by Dr. Reid.
Penelope said he was harmless, but that didn’t change the fact that he made you nervous. Not nervous in the sense that you were scared of him, but nervous in the way that he was something of a legend in the FBI.
Even more so since his recent release from prison.
You felt a sort of disconnect from the team when it came to them trying to get Reid out of prison, whenever Nadie Ramos came up in conversation, you picked up your files on Mr. Scratch and distracted yourself. Of course, you helped where you were needed, but you didn’t know him like they did.
This particular morning, you had beaten him to the office, taking your spot at your desk and flipping through a file you had abandoned in the name of sleep last night. A slight crash made you jump so badly that you fumbled with the papers in an attempt to not drop them. You looked up to see Spencer had dropped his bag on his desk, “Good morning, Y/N.” He greeted you.
Blankly, you stare at him for a moment before giving him a half smile. “Good morning, Dr. Reid,” you responded.
“I told you that you could just call me Reid, or Spencer,” he said, sitting down at his own desk.
Nodding, you found yourself interested in your coffee cup. “Yes, you did,” you took a deep breath. “Good morning, Spencer,” you tried again, offering him a fuller smile.
That seemed to appease him for now because he flipped open his own files and started inspecting them.
As you were preparing for the 10 o’clock debrief, you found yourself in the office kitchenette, pouring a cup of coffee from the pot that had been brewed an indeterminate number of minutes ago. Vaguely aware of the person standing behind you, you turned around to find Spencer, holding his own mug in both hands. “Oh! Hey,” you said, mentally smacking the palm of your hand to your forehead.
You moved out of the way as you added cream to your mug, watching as Spencer poured his coffee and followed it up with an almost equal amount of sugar. As you were about to make your way to the round table room, Spencer spoke, “You know, before 1975 you wouldn’t even have been able to be an FBI agent.”
Furrowing your eyebrows, you stopped in your tracks and turned to face him, “Wait, what? Why?”
“Before 1975 people shorter than 5’7” couldn’t be FBI agents,” He responded plainly, but there was a bit of mischief in his eyes.
You looked at him curiously, warmth flooding your cheeks. You stammered something about being late and rushed to the roundtable room, taking your usual spot next to Luke, and watching what Garcia presented to you—pretending not to notice Spencer across the table from you.
The BAU had been asked to consult on a case, but there were no precincts that had asked the team to make a trip to them. You had finished the paperwork on a recently closed case and got up to bring it to Emily, stuffing the papers in a file folder, you turned around and ran into Spencer. “Sorry!” You squeaked out, dropping to the floor to pick up the papers. To your surprise, he crouched down next to you and helped to pick up the papers. “Oh, jeez, now they’re all out of order,” you moped, setting the papers back down on your desk.
“It was my fault,” Spencer said. The honesty in his voice made your shoulders slouch.
Shaking your head, you smiled at him, “It’s okay, Spencer. They’re just papers.”
He looked at you like there was something more he wanted to say, but he didn’t, he just turned from your desk and walked out of the bullpen, leaving you staring.
When you finally brought your papers to Emily, she asked you to close the door behind you. Patiently, you stood in her office while she added your file to the menacing pile she kept on her desk. “I’ve been meaning to ask how you’re doing. With the BAU, I mean,” she told you, leaning over her desk.
“Good, I think. I’ve gotten very few complaints so far,” you told her, unable to help the uneasiness you felt. Had someone said something?
Emily nodded, her dark hair shining with the movement, “Good, I haven’t heard anything negative about you at all. Which is actually uncommon for the BAU.”
You let the rest of the day pass, but as the team trickled out of the bullpen, only you, Emily, and Spencer were left.
At the sound of rustling, you looked over to see that Spencer was packing up his things and putting them into his familiar leather bag. Resting your cheek on your hand, you went back to your case file, marking thoughts in the margins.
Jumping when something hit your desk, making the metal rattle, you dropped your pen on the ground. Peering up to see Spencer giving you a lopsided smile before he bent down to pick up your pen, “Hey, at least you didn’t drop a bunch of papers again.”
You flushed as your eyes followed him out the glass doors of the BAU, turning around to see Emily watching on, leaning on the railing outside her office, looking between you and Spencer as if she knew something you didn’t.

could i possibly get a fic about sebastian helping adhd!farmer through their rejection dysphoria? i leave the rest up to you, go wild <3
- 🪩
★ like the stream - sebastian x adhd!farmer ★
word count: 1.5k
warnings: rejection sensitivity dysphoria episode
summary: it's the day of the flower dance! you're prepared to ask your friend sam to be your dance partner when you're met face to face with a kind but otherwise hard rejection from the other party. Unable to cope with the rejection because of your RSD, you find yourself spiraling when another friend of yours, Sebastian, finds you alone and distressed in the depths of Cindersap Forest.
a/n: hi hi request #2 for my write-a-thon! hope this is an okay fic, i made sure to do some research on rsd and adhd (beyond my personal knowledge of it) for this fic :D
Today had to be perfect.
That was what you repeated to yourself, as you made your way towards Cindersap Forest for the Flower Dance. You double, even triple, checked that you had everything ready for today. It may have taken two or ten sticky note reminders, but you knew that everything was in the right place. Your outfit? Check. Your flowers? Check. Your confidence to ask Sam to be your dance partner? Check!
As you got closer and closer, the sound of upbeat classical music grew louder and louder. They should really install a better alternative to this, I don’t know George crosses this, you thought to yourself while crossing the bridge over to the festival. An open green space greeted you with the residents of Pelican Town scattered about. You exchanged pleasantries with your fellow townies, making a beeline to your friend group by a secluded corner of the festival.
“Hey (Y/N)!” Abigail gave you a small, half salute, “Didn’t think you were going to make it.”
“I lost track of time,” you confessed, “Nonetheless, I made it!”
Your two other friends, Sam and Sebastian, paused their side conversation at mention of your arrival. Sam offered you a dazzling smile that made your heart flutter, “(Y/N)! Good to see you!” and, much to your disappointment, he gave you a friendly side hug. You forced a smile in return and responded, “Yeah, for sure. I’m just glad I made it before the dance started.”
“Would’ve sucked ass if you missed it,” mused Abigail. Sebastian didn’t respond, staring silently at you. A frown graced your lips, What’s his deal? you questioned. Your chest, however, had a different reaction, tightening up at the sight of Sebastian’s deadpan. He’s probably just having a bad day, you reassured yourself, He’s not mad at you. He’s not mad at you.
“I’m gonna grab some of Gus’s drinks,” you perked up at Sam’s voice, “You guys got a preference for what?”
“Ooo, get me the Tulip Jubilee,” requested Abigail.
“The Blue Jazz Drop for me,” you eyed Sebastian when he spoke up. Sam looked at you expectantly, “How about you, (Y/N)?”
“Oh, uhhhhh…” you mentally thumbed through your options, “No preference, just grab me something you think I’ll like,” you adjusted your collar with your free hand, “I trust your judgement.”
“Will do!” Sam responded with a double thumbs up before leaving for the food and drinks table. You let out a deep sigh and fiddled with the flower in your hand, a small but homegrown tulip. Abigail quirked an eyebrow up at you, “Something on your mind?”
“Oh! Well,” you cleared your throat, “Just thinking about the dance.”
“Fingers crossed that you don’t have to dance with Clint like last year,” snorted the purple-haired goth. You grimaced at the memory and scanned the crowd for the aforementioned blacksmith, seeing him talk poor Emily’s ear off, “Anyone but him,” you grumbled.
“Which reminds me,” your friend directed her attention to Sebastian, “Dance partners this year?” to which the black-haired boy nodded quietly. You stared at him with narrowed eyes, Why are you so quiet today?
“Back with the drinks!” your blonde friend announced to the group, two drinks in hand and two held tight against his chest. Sam passed out the drinks and informed you, “I got you the Sunflower Tonic.”
You pressed your lips against the cup and took a sip, the sweetness of the drink evident, “This is good,” you let your friends know.
“Ew, mine’s too sour,” sighed Abigail, her lips puckered. She held her drink towards the group, “Any takers?”
“I’ll try it,” answered Sam. He grabbed the drink and sipped it, his face grimacing, “Yikes. Too sour,” before handing it in front of you, “Want a taste?”
You felt flushed at the idea of sipping the drink after Sam and seized the opportunity, accidentally taking a big swing of it. Immediately, you gagged at the taste, “Ugh! My tongue!” and spat out what little liquid was left in your mouth. Sebastian finally took the drink and drank it without any sign of sourness on his face, “Yeah, this is bad,” he stated, “I’ll stick with my drink,” the emo resumed his Blue Jazz Drop.
“Ladies and gentlemen!” Mayor Lewis’s voice echoed awkwardly through his microphone, “The Flower Dance will begin shortly! Last chance to find yourself a partner!”
You heard the man, this is your last chance! you grasped your flower and waited until Abigail and Sebastian went ahead to pull Sam aside, “Hey Sam, can I ask you something?”
“Yeah, what’s up?” Yoba, his sunshine demeanor was too much.
“Would you like to be my partner for the dance?” you held up the tulip. Sam’s sunshine self dimmed into a clouded version, “Oh, (Y/N), but Penny asked me to dance while I was getting the drinks. I’m really sorry.”
The sound of your world cracking rang through your ears, as you stood motionless in front of Sam, “Oh! I, uh…” tears pricked at your eyes, “I gotta go.”
Your surroundings began to blur and any outside noise turned into static, as you made your escape from the Flower Dance and deeper into Cindersap Forest. The bum bum of your heart and the swoosh of your blood pounded against your head.
I hate him.
He hates me.
No, he just made a promise!
No, he thinks you’re the worst!
It was like being trapped on a carousel, your thoughts and emotions spinning around and around. Soon, you found yourself by a small stream, laying on the ground by it with sprawled out limbs. Tears rushed down your face and you heaved dryly, as your brain failed to comprehend Sam’s words and intent.
Oh, (Y/N), but Penny asked me to dance while I was getting the drinks. I’m really sorry.
You sat up, nearly flinging yourself forward towards the stream, and started to bite at your nails, “He hates me. He hates me. I hate myself. I hate myself. I-”
“(Y/N)?”
You jerked your head to the left, Sebastian standing a few feet away from you. As he approached you, you hastily wiped your face with your sleeve, tears and snot staining the fabric, “Leave me alone,” you sniffled.
“(Y/N), what’s wrong?” he asked you, sitting down beside you with his knees to his chest. The tears resumed and coated your cheeks in the salty liquid, “I hate myself, okay?! I fucking hate myself, Sebastian!”
Sebastian tilted his head in confusion, “Why do you hate yourself?”
“Because I’m obviously such an awful person that Sam doesn’t want anything to do with me!” you cried out. Your friend frowned deeply, “(Y/N), you know that Sam usually dances with Penny at the Flower Dance.”
That made your blood steam, “I wanted it to be DIFFERENT, Sebastian! I wanted him to dance with me!” you heaved at Sebastian. He fell silent and fished out something from his suit pocket, a red tangle fidget. Your friend let it out to you and you snatched it without hesitation, fidgeting with it while you sobbed. You tried to get back to reality, but with each passing moment, the idea of returning to the present grew farther and farther away. Everything was hurting, your mind and your body, everything was hurting so much.
“I’m sorry that you’re hurting,” whispered Sebastian. You looked at him with watery eyes, “I can’t control this,” you admitted. He nodded quietly and held out a hand, to which you grasped and squeezed. Sebastian continued, “I know that these kinda things are a lot for you. I know that your mind is telling you a lot of awful stuff right now because of what Sam said, huh?”
“Yeah…” you squeezed his hand again. Sebastian added on, “I didn’t mean to watch, but I accidentally saw the whole situation go down. Sam looked upset when you ran away.”
“Well, he can shove,” you grumbled. Sebastian snorted and retorted, “He’s the one who wanted to check on you, but I told him that you seeing him while you’re in a RSD episode wouldn’t be that helpful.”
You moved closer to Sebastian and laid your head against his shoulders, “I hate my brain.”
“I get it, you’re not alone,” hummed the emo, “Isn’t this stream pretty, though?” he redirected your focus on the stream, the gentle rush of water humming against the swaying trees, “Maybe, just for a second, we can be like the stream.”
You closed your eyes and focused on the sound of the stream, envisioning yourself as one with the water. A sense of peace washed over you and you exhaled, still picturing yourself as the stream. It felt like an hour or so went by before you opened your eyes again, “I’m the stream,” you stated to Sebastian.
“You’re the stream,” he repeated back, holding you close, “You’re the stream," your heartbeat and breathing returned to normal.
"I'm the stream."

Relationship: Spencer Reid x Reader

Criminal Minds Masterlist: Here
Summary: Emily’s best friend from the FBI’s translation department has met someone from the BAU before, and with his eidetic memory, Spencer wishes that he could redo that night that everything went wrong.
Author Oscar Wilde once said, “Ultimately the bond of all companionship, whether in marriage or in friendship, is a conversation.”
Emily Prentiss was scrambling to clean up her desk while the rest of her team watched. She seemed to be looking for something, but no one bothered to offer help. Prentiss was muttering to herself as she continued, and only stopped when she felt eyes on her.
“What?” She leveled at her friends and colleagues. JJ simply raised her eyebrows with a smile on her face, and Derek smirked as he chuckled. However, sitting across from them, Spencer was just now disengaging from the book on his desk.
“Oh nothing,” Morgan drawled out, fiddling with a pencil in his grasp. Rolling her eyes, Emily turned back to her desk rummaging until she pulled something out from the mess of files with an ‘aha’ look on her face. It was a book and it looked expense according to Spencer’s keen eye for books.
“What’s that?” JJ asked, dropping her files in favor of snooping through Emily’s hands.
“It’s a custom, leather bound copy of ‘The Portrait of Dorian Grey’ by Oscar Wilde. I’ve been holding onto it for months for a friend’s birthday present. We’re going out for drinks in a bit.” Prentiss explained, examining the book and making sure that it was still in pristine condition. Placing the book into a bag, it was hidden from sight as she prepared it for her celebrator.
“Ooo, someone hoping to get a little lovin?” Morgan teased, to which Emily rolled her eyes.
“Unfortunately for me, she’s straight. And fortunately for her, you’re not her type. Sorry.” But her tone was anything but. Morgan dramatically tapped his cheek in a faux slap, and swiveled in his chair from the ‘recoil.’ The group laughed at his antics, and Prentiss checked her watch once more.
“Looking for someone?” A smooth, feminine voice sounded behind the dark haired agent. Emily turned and joyously hugged her friend that had approached. They exchanged greetings quickly and let go.
“Let me introduce you to my team really quick.” She excitedly proclaimed, and pulled the other woman around to do so.
“This is Jennifer, but we just call her JJ.” The two women shook hands with polite smiles.
“This is Derek Morgan and I’m sorry.” Said agent had grasped the woman’s hand and had pressed a kiss to the back of her knuckles. They let go with a chuckle.
“And this is-” Emily was cut off.
“Dr. Spencer Reid.” Her friend finished for her. Although her tone was not filled with admiration or starstruck behavior; it was filled with contempt. His eyes widen and he breathlessly said her name in disbelief that she was there in front of him.
“It’s been a while.” He stated, fiddling with his tie and messing with his hair. She no longe held a smile on her face that made her automatically look younger and more beautiful.
“Yeah, not long enough. Can we go now? I’d prefer my birthday not be ruined.” She stated, turning to Emily with a deadpan look. But one of shock coated Prentiss’ face.
“This was the FBI doctor who stood you up?” The agent questioned as the other woman nodded and closed he eyes. The look on her face was not a happy one, while JJ and Morgan turned to Reid who was cringing with a nervous expression.
“The one and only.” Spencer was nervously scratching the back of his neck.
“Naughty boy.” Emily scolded.
“Listen, can we just go please?” She drew their attention once more to her as she tried to leave the bullpen.
“Yeah, no doubt. Let’s get going.” Prentiss grabbed her coat, and gift bag before ushering the woman out.
“Wait!” A voice called as the two women approached the glass doors of the BAU. Spencer had caught up to them, and they were not happy about being stopped.
“I’ll meet you at the elevator.” And with that, Emily left the two agents alone. Her friend was less than please, and tried to get her to stay, but it was in vain.
“Listen, I just wanted to say-” Spencer started, but never finished.
“You don’t need to say anything. It’s fine. I get if I’m not your type. Just would have been nice not to have been stood up three days before Christmas.” She stated, shrugging her shoulders and placing her hands in her jeans pockets in order to attempt to look nonchalant.
“No, I- I didn’t mean to um, stand you up.” Reid stumbled through, wringing his hands together.
“Then what would you call it? Because I distinctly remember sitting in that restaurant, in my nicest little black dress. And drinking wine while patrons and staff sent me looks of pity, while I sat there for three hours.” The longer she explained, the more Spencer cringed in on himself. It sounded worse than what he had imagined.
“I got called in on a case, and our phones didn’t get good reception. I meant to text you but when I tried to after we had come back, I couldn’t. I never could reach you to apologize or set up another chance. When that happened, I thought you wanted nothing to do with me so I never looked up your number to find out.” Spencer explained, fiddling with the back of his neck as he did. It looked like she was fighting an internal battle as she stood there, and took it all in.
“Can anyone else confirm this?” She asked, crossing her arms and looking at the doctor with a skeptical glance.
“Emily.” He nodded towards the agent that was trying not to eavesdrop on the conversation near the elevators. Standing there in silence for a minute more, she eventually dropped her head and hard expression.
“You really didn’t mean to stand me up?” Watching the doctor, she almost let out a giggle at how comical he shook his head.
“I swear, I didn’t mean to. I’m sorry that I ever gave you that idea.” Spencer reassured.
“Okay, okay. I appreciate you explaining, and accept your apology.” This time, she did giggle at the hopeful look on the young doctor’s face. Turning away, she made to meet up with Emily when he name was called yet again. Spencer came closer to where she had not quite reached her friend again.
“Is there anyway that I could get another chance for that date? Maybe this time with a better turn out?” He sounded so hopeful as he awaited her response. She thought a minute, and smirked as she stepped inside his personal bubble.
“Text me again, and we’ll see.” A kiss was pressed to his cheek, and he was stunned. Spencer felt himself raise a hand to touch the tingly area as the two women laughed as they entered the elevator. She wagged her fingers in a departing gesture, while he waved dumbly with his other hand.
When the women fully disappeared from view, Reid pulled out his phone and retrieved her number. He sent yet another text, and this time, it went through. It was followed with a promise to meet him for dinner tomorrow evening at this charming little diner that was not to far from Quantico. Spencer went back to his desk with a dumb smile on his face and could not even be bothered when people tried to find out what had happened. All that matter was that he had a chance to make things right.
“I learn from my mistakes. It’s a very painful way to learn, but without pain, the old saying is, there’s no gain.” Johnny Cash

Emily 🤝 Lilith
Being considered generally "off-putting" to and offending the people around them
Facing danger for "scholarly research" or science
Having next to zero survival instincts around technically dangerous non-human men
Being simultaneously unfazed by random women exiting said man's room and yet amused/entertained/intrigued by it
Having no concept of danger when resorting to poking, jabbing, stabbing, or kicking said man because it's "for the science" or, "he's not cooperating"
Stranger danger is also very much not a thing
Underreacting to their men committing violence in their defense
Completely unfazed by blood to the point I'm a little concerned
Being oblivious towards flirting
Absolute failure retorts when questioned about their past relationships
All I'm saying is these two would have a blast over tea and literally compare notes.

August 2024 fic roundup
This was truly the month of the longfic. And to think I only read short fics until @skelavender showed me the error of my ways!
📰🖋️ Paracelsus by prufrockslove
One of the biggest txf fics ever, and I absolutely devoured it. I loved reading it right after Hiraeth and seeing all the little nods to their past lives. This author knows how to spin a yarn, guys. My one complaint is the never-ending miscommunications towards the end, which is never my favorite source of drama/conflict. Just talk to each other, you idiots! (Although they have those moments in canon, as well, I suppose.)
⚾️🏟️ A Moment in the Sun by prufrockslove
I will remember this fic for the rest of my life. It’s the type of fanfic you want to write fanfic about. It makes me wish I knew now to print and bind my own books. The universe is so rich and developed. Definitely in my top 5 of all time!
Here’s a list of things I love about it:
William. My precious, bratty British boy.
The way the plot includes elements of the mytharc but put together in a different way so you don’t know exactly how it’s all gonna come together
Emily!! You know I love a good Emily AU, and this fic certainly counts. I’m a sucker for a found family, and this fic delivers.
Josh Exley my beloved (and Arthur Dales, but the other one)
Dad!Mulder. The man is an absolute DILF. He tries so hard to overcome his shortcomings and be the father his kids need.
Frohike. His job as an eccentric baseball manager suits him surprisingly well, and his characterization is on point.
The little nods to canon, including episode titles and locations.
The insinuation that all of PFL’s AUs take place in the same universe (as Mulder said, “It has to take more than one lifetime to learn to love someone this much.”)
The only thing I’m not zazzed about is the ending. It kind of just…ends? I would’ve loved an epilogue or even a sequel (or a 12-book series).
🏫📸 Dr. Scully’s School for Exceptional Boys by prufrockslove
Oh boy. This fic is a tangled mess of emotions and betrayal and shame and guilt and love and promises and sacrifices and, most of all:
Definitely recommend.
👒👩🔬 The Regency Files by @slippinmickeys
I needed something that needed less mental energy after 4 massive PFL fics in a row, and this one delivered! It’s sweet, romantic, elegant, and has just enough of a plot to keep you interested. If you’re a fan of historical AUs (as I am now, I guess), this one’s a must-read!
🛌🍷 The Reunion by @muldersfingers
Absolute trope-y goodness without feeling too cheesy or predictable. My favorite part is how much they laugh and tease each other when they finally make use of that one bed ;)
🐶🥇 underdog takes the title by @wtfmulder
MSR’s first time is sweet, silly, and giggly. Mulder is absolutely pathetic and pitiable, which Scully finds hot (same, girl). It absolutely melted my heart!
👶👨🍼 the bitter and the sweet by @xf-cases-solved
What if baby William was a girl? What if they named her after Samantha?
Absolute perfection. This is how season 8 should have ended!
🏔️🌲 The Mountain Man and A Deadly Hunger by aka_Jake
This historical AU takes place in the same time period as Paracelsus, but it’s so vastly different in its setting that it’s unfair to compare them. In this one, Mulder is a Montana mountain man who smuggles arms to the Native Americans, and Scully hopes to become an army doctor in a nearby frontier town. It’s a classic Wild West romance with plenty of drama and conflict. I love how each of the characters feel like themselves, especially Scully, who retains her headstrong independence despite social norms.
🔙🥩 The Mastodon Diaries by aka_Jake
Mulder and Scully travel back in time to the Pleistocene era and must rely on their wits and each other to survive.
This is one of those fics that changes you as a person. I will be thinking about it for a long, long time. It broke my heart a thousand times and then lovingly stitched it back together. There were so many moments that took my breath away.
The portrayal of prehistoric humans is especially incredible — they’re so well-thought out, and their culture is so rich and developed. Even though 12,000 years separates us, we’re not so different from each other in the end. I absolutely fell in love with the native OCs, which is a compliment of the highest order. I already miss them!
Anyway, it’s like this fic was created in a lab specifically for me. It has all my favorite tropes and story elements: wilderness survival, historical AU(ish), soooo much whump and caretaking and hurt/comfort, found families, Dad!Mulder, and a surprising amount of romance. If you haven’t read this one yet, I’m begging you to give it a try!
🇦🇶❄️ On the Verge by aka_Jake
This fic fits into one of my favorite canon holes: How did Mulder and Scully get back from Antarctica? I love reading everyone’s different takes on this missing scene/plotline, and this one is no exception!

bunny x cat dynamic?
Like, adhd bunny and grumpy cat dynamic? I'm going to try writing a bit where the dynamic of the main characters are fleshed out. Any input on what people often enjoy about these for me to take into account?
To me it's so cute because she considers herself more as an annoying dog but for him, he considers her to be a cute, hyperactive bunny (that's kind of useless to (literal) death but let's put that aside, or not)
The ideal response to this would come from your readers. If you've already established your reader base, try asking them their preferences and expectations. Of course—still, write the story you want (and need) as a writer. And there it is, in your second paragraph. The idea is that if you write what you want, the people who also prefer this dynamic will find your work and stay for the rest of the story, and will more likely enjoy your other work as well (this is essentially what most successful authors advise new writers—write what you want, what you enjoy etc etc). But striking a balance between your readers' and your own preferences would be great too.
If you don't have a reader base yet, I'd suggest going through your favourite literature/films and finding ones that depict this particular character dynamic. Then you yourself, as a reader/viewer now, could answer what you find enjoyable about these pieces of media, and incorporate that in your writing.
Also, here are some tropes that I think have similarities with the dynamic you described. Same suggestion with finding books or films/TV shows you like that feature these tropes. But also research their readers'/audience's feedback to find out what they enjoyed about these character tropes, and this is what you can take into consideration for your story.
Grump and sunshine. One character is so grumpy all the time; the other character is so bubbly all the time. And somehow, through that power-of-love thing, they end up balancing each other out. The grump sometimes has sworn off love.
Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl. This is a potential pairing (platonic or otherwise) between a pragmatic guy and a girl who is very full of energy. One partner in the pair will be lively and optimistic while the other is savvy and more slothful, quiet, or otherwise less expressive. EXAMPLES:
In Corpse Bride, Emily and Victor. The former is a dead bride who is rather lively and spiritual for a corpse, while the latter is a live man who is shy and awkward almost to a fault.
This defines Anna and Kristoff's relationship in Frozen nicely. She is a spunky princess willing to do whatever it takes to bring her sister home, he is a grumpy, rough-around-the-edges ice harvester helping her along the way.
In Pixar's Up, the quiet and timid Carl befriended and eventually married the energetic Ellie.
Uptight Loves Wild. He's stuffy. She's untamed. It's true love. Mr. Stuffy is in a rut: Life is boring because he plays by the rules. Along comes this wild and crazy woman to show him how to live life to its fullest, and she just might learn a few things along the way, too. EXAMPLES:
Enchanted: Stuffy, cynical divorce lawyer Robert meets fairytale princess Giselle.
The Sound of Music: Maria isn't "wild", but she is a Blithe Spirit in the face of the extremely uptight, Captain von Trapp.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: Quite thoroughly deconstructs this. A relationship like this doesn't always work and after the falling-in-love part, it causes more pain than joy; so much so that both parties opt to have their memories removed of each other. The Manic Pixie Dream Girl is also far more complicated: "I'm not a concept, I'm just a fucked-up girl looking for a peace of mind".
Opposites Attract. EXAMPLES:
The Princess and the Frog has Tiana and Naveen. She's a Workaholic, no-nonsense waitress and he's a fun-loving, lazy prince.
Tangled gives us the jaded, worldly-wise thief Flynn Rider and the spirited, innocent princess Rapunzel.
Treasure Planet has Captain Amelia and Dr. Doppler. She's a tough-as-nails Action Girl, he's a bookish scientist, not to mention they're basically an anthropomorphic cat and dog, respectively. The two grow closer throughout the movie, and by the end they even have several kids.
