okay ive now read like 3-4 romantasy/fantasy books where its enemies to lovers and like immediately after the main characters decide they love each other and have sex, the MMC betrays her????? like “get naked, i love you” and then boom the third act twist is IMMEDIATE BETRAYAL. usual like public, messy betrayal also. which means the sequel then starts the whole enemies to lovers dynamic over again as the FMC is like rightfully pissed and then the author has to be like “no he had a good reason i promise” just for him to barely redeem himself to the FMC so she can forgive him and they can get back to fucking in between battles. like. once was shocking. twice was like okay sure. THREE TIMES?? FOUR TIMES?? no more. if another enemies to lovers MMC betrays the FMC, i want her to just kill him. if you want to use the enemies to lovers trope to sell your series, simply make it a slow burn, my guy. also i dont buy that she would forgive this like “ultimate betrayal” based on the fact that he has dark hair and shes horny for him. like if hes gonna betray her, stick to your guns and make him evil but nooooo hes always somehow right so she doesnt even get to be mad. its starting to feel like a cop out

Honestly, every time I read a new contemporary romance book, I'm reminded of all the reasons I love romantasy (even if I'm also loving the contemporary one).

There's a freedom in romantasy that just doesn't exist within contemporary romance, since the latter obviously reflects real life.

Everyday stressors can exist in romantasy, but the resolution is generally much easier. For example, if you find yourself in extreme poverty, simply find yourself a Fae sugar daddy or two and get your whole family bankrolled by them.

You [usually] can't legally do anything about people you hate who hold power over you in real life. You can feed them to death gods in romantasy.

If you want to take a sexy swim or bath in the magical forest stream with your beloved, you can do so without fear of "being arrested" or, "indecent exposure."

You often get to be hot and immortal and powerful in romantasy whereas you have some clown concepts like income taxes in real life.

I’ve been reading a lot of fantasy⚔️ and also it’s finally the first F1 race week of the year🏎️ and also I watched a romcom that I actually enjoyed💕, so here is a little round-up of book recs based on all of these things!💋

What have you been reading and loving lately?

I was lucky enough to get the ARC for the songbird and the heart of stone, and it was so hard not to rave about it before it properly released!

I live in fear I’ll accidentally spoil something for someone so I just kept saying I hadn’t started my reread yet, lest I forget which book something was in!

The ending rocked me to the core, iykyk, and I’m secretly hoping Carissa is going to surprise-drop the sequel next month so I don’t have to wait 😂
