Doctor Jackal

Bio: Perhaps the only sentient lifeform that remembers what caused the world ending explosion (because they caused it, of course), whatever the good doctor used to be has been long lost to the sands of time. They are the only person with an understanding of what, exactly, is happening to Loam as old gods wake up and magic makes the world more and more unstable.

Back before the apocalypse, Jackal was a head researcher looking into clean energy sources to power the ever expanding mega-cities that covered the continent. What they found was the crystalized remains of a dead god's conciousness that slowly woke up and became obsessed with them the closer the doctor worked with the crystal. Eventually, the god used its gathered strength to compel Jackal to touch the crystal, fusing the two into one new being and setting off the explosion that would usher in the age of magic.

Nowadays, they are a shapeshifting wasteland traveller looking to catagorize and study the effects of magic on the world and keep track of each new awakening beast god. Some part of them remembers that time before time, when exsistance was simply devouring and being devoured. They will not let themself loose that game again. By any means necessary.

What is/was your character’s relationship with their mother like? What is/was your character’s relationship with their father like?

It was pretty average, actually! They were well-meaning, supportive parents who also pushed Jackal too hard. Since Jackal was a really smart kid, their parents really pushed them to be the smartest, but it was always from a well meaning place even when it went to far. By the time Jackal was in collage they had internalized this idea of needing to be the best, the smartest, the most successful person to the point that even when their parents tried to suggest taking breaks for Jackal's own well being they refused to listen.

Just like all of their past, if you ask Jackal about it today they simply claim they don't remember anything from that long ago. Of course, it's silly to assume they can forget anything.

im going to answer all of these from a post-fusion point, because they'd all be very different answers for a still human Jackal!

30 What does your character find repulsive or disgusting?

the only thing they truly find repulsive anymore is ignorance, their own and of others. They're incredibly desensitized to any sort of gore or grossness due to centuries of medical malpractice (is it still malpractice if there's no longer a standardized medical system?) but their need to know and understand everything makes not understanding something incredibly, infuriatingly disgusting

32 Describe a scenario in which your character feels most uncomfortable.

when Jackal isn't in control. They're used to playing 5d chess while everyone else is playing checkers, even if an outcome surprises them they likely have some trick or plan up their sleeves. If you truly manage to catch them off guard, first of all congrats on outsmarting an eldritch god of knowledge, but second of you you'll have a very dangerous animal backed into a corner, and they aren't short on teeth or claws

44 How easy or difficult is it for your character to say “I love you?” Can they say it without meaning it?

they have no problem lying and manipulating as means to an end. I think Jackal would rather dance around and imply an affection rather than outright say 'i love you,' but if it comes to that they have no problem saying it. They would also have no problem saying it in a genuine way, romantic or platonic, but even the good doctor isn't sure if they can even feel that kind of affection anymore. Love is such a mortal concept, and they aren't mortal anymore.
