Just saw Sonic 3 tonight. Wow... Just... Wow. It is rare where I leave a movie with all my expectations being met. Sonic 3 not only meets them, it exceeds them.

May I have a personal reflection?

Following the choice theme.

‼️SPOILERS SONIC 3‼️

One of Stone's biggest flaws is his choice to become passive and thus giving up his ability to choose to someone else.

Did you notice that whenever Stone takes the initiative to do something by his own accord and be active, he becomes pretty competent? From his setting up of the Mean Bean (That can be debated that it was following order but I say it was his choice to follow them at all instead of moving on) to his action scene and his saving the life of Robotnik and taking them to safety. I remember him never really failing or at least not hard at any of this.

The problem is, he does this very little.

He prefers to stand back and let Robotnik take the lead and follow His every order, as flawed as they may be, for a reason Robotnik keeps loosing maybe. And the problem is, Robotnik always orders Stone to stay behind and just wait for him, because Robotnik has to be the Genius that does this on his own, right?

And that I think has brought him down. That instead of working in unison with Stone, Ivo has to do the important stuff on his own, maybe out of ego or habit. And Stone accepts that, Even after seeing how not being by Robotnik's side has brought his doctor down twice now.

I hope that Stone in the future is tormented by the simple choice of following the cycle that has done nothing but hurt them. Robotnik told him to stay in the Crab while he does the hard work, and Stone gladly accepted it. He chose to be passive one last time and that brought disaster.

And I hope that in the future, Stone finally chooses to not be passive anymore, I hope he gets sick of it and chooses to truly follow his own Accord, and I hope he becomes a menace, because now, there's no Robotnik to hold him back and tell him to wait.

In my opinion, if Ivo and Stone had truly worked together, they would have been unstoppable, but it was both their choices to not do so.

And now, I think Stone on his own could do a pretty Nice job at malevolence, all that stops him is the choice he might take from here on out

Sonic 3 stob spoilerssss:

Thinking about how much the past few years of his life had fucked up stone so unfairly.

He had lost the doctor three times. The first was out of his control and he had hope the doctor would come back.

When Ivo did return, he was overwhelmingly happy and thought he was unstoppable this time.

After movie 2, stone had to drag Ivo out from a large pit of metallic rubble and nurse him back to health all by himself with limited resources. In these moments he was probably extremely frightened for Ivo, but I imagine after the shock wore off he was immensely grateful for Robotnik’s recovery.

In movie 3, they’ve lived together for months, closer than ever before, and Stone thought they’d be on the up and up again. However, soon he would have to experience a loss yet again—this time permanently.

I can’t even begin to imagine how heartbreaking it must’ve been for Stone to be offered a miracle in movie 2 with Robotnik’s recovery, only to have to watch that miracle be wasted only a few months later.

He never got to experience a second of peace. Always worried for Ivo’s demise or his mental state, and never allowed to indulge in happy moments with the doctor.

The only way in which we could see the two blissfully together, with all Stone’s dedication and sacrifices worth the pain, is if Ivo can make it back home yet again. Will Stone be gifted another miracle, or did his luck just run out?

Idk this was just my rant about how much stone had to go through in such a short span of time. Something something The sonic 3 theme of making choices….and how stone always made the choice to care for the doctor above all else…and still lost him in the end despite it. However it was all because the doctor on his own returned the favor and actively chose to care for stone above all else this time….just because stone deserves to live and be awarded the closure he needs from Ivo in their final moments together.

The funny thing about Dr. Robotnik being called Dr. Robotnik in the English localisation is that "Robotnik" is a real surname, but the localisers apparently had no idea – they just took the English word "robot" and stuck a vaguely Russian-sounding suffix on it because it was the Cold War and "vaguely Russian" was shorthand for "evil" in American popular culture. Dudes tried to lazily come up with a name that evokes "evil robot guy" and accidentally made him Polish.

Paramount put out a Rankin/Bass style short about Team Sonic saving Christmas.

It's cute, funny, and I do like a lot of the little things in it.

Their Christmas sweaters tied to their character: a chili dog for Sonic, the biplane for Tails, and grapes for Knuckles.

Also the Robotnik snowmen, as well as the snow level in the background.
