⁣ There is a lot out there on forgiving abusers and how it is about forgiving, not forgettting, and doing it for us, not for them. ⁣ ⁣ But, what if someone hasn’t forgiven? What if they feel no need or desire to pardon the individual whole stole their childhood and much of their adulthood and left them maimed and seeking healing for years to come? What if they haven’t forgiven their abuser, because they feel nothing for their abuser? What if the anger they feel is justified and they’re working on feeling it for the first time and not just swallowing it or trying to ignore it or “let it go”? What if it’s what’s keeping them from being harmed by that person again? What if they feel no need to forgive, because, they feel nothing for that person? What if the anger they feel is about what happened to them. An anger that helps them go back and love the child within in the way they needed all those years. ⁣ ⁣ I don’t think there’s anything wrong with not forgiving an abuser. It’s possible to not hold hatred in your heart and also not pardon someone for the hell they put you through. Just because someone feels no need to forgive, doesn’t mean they withhold mercy, either. ⁣ ⁣ Before blanketly telling a survivor they need to forgive, but they don’t have to forget, for their own sake, think again. Most survivors just want to be as far removed from the perpetrator as they can and live their own life. Telling their truth is them living in reality and learning to heal from it. It’s not revenge. It’s not hate. It’s gaining a sense of sanity and mental clarity. And that’s not a bad thing. ⁣ ⁣ Forgiveness?
