Thinking of a mix of doa!Dazai and vampire!Chuuya AU where Chuuya very much was a vampire the whole time, but instead of being ordered around by Fyodor, Dazai's in charge of him. But Dazai has to be extra careful not to touch Chuuya because otherwise it'll nullify the vampirism, and Dazai ends up feeling this strange sort of bond/kinship with vampire Chuuya?

They just end up spending so much time together and Chuuya acts as a bodyguard. The lack of communicating with one another beyond looks and blank stares from Chuuya gives Dazai a little pang in his heart. They'll just sit there at a table not talking and once in a while Dazai will get the urge to reach across and tap Chuuya to break the vampirism because he'd like to know what the real Chuuya is like. It's a shame, because unlike Fyodor or the others, he treats Chuuya as more than just a mindless servant to carry out orders and go around infecting others to serve a bigger cause.

But then there's that obvious risk of backlash from Chuuya himself and although Dazai really wants to break it, orders are orders. There's still a little bit of light in Chuuya's eyes even if the humanity is far gone and in the recesses of his mind. Dazai can't explain it, but it's there. There's that little bit of resistance from vampire Chuuya, and he acts quite a bit differently from the other vampires Dazai's come across.

They also have some silly moments, though. Dazai's had to run away from Chuuya if Chuuya ever tried to bite him—not because Dazai had to worry about getting bitten and turned, but obviously because Chuuya would end up nullifying the vampirism himself, and then they'd have an awkward moment of Dazai lying there unsure of how to explain everything while consciousness returns to Chuuya and he's wondering why the hell he has Dazai pinned to the ground, biting him.

Also, though it never had been confirmed in canon, in the AU I'd imagine the vampires all needing a source of blood and Dazai goes out of his way to take care of Chuuya. Chuuya can't bite him directly, but that won't stop Dazai from feeding him.

Also, over time Chuuya slowly learns how to become sentient beyond grunting or indistinct noises and hide his obvious vampiric appearance after being turned for so long. Dazai freaks out one day when he sees Chuuya looking so human and thinks Bram had something to do with that. Cautious, he still doesn't touch Chuuya just in case because it's obvious if Chuuya had come back to his senses, he would've left or probably tried to kill Dazai even if Dazai had no hand in Chuuya's fate but just so happened to pick out Chuuya to be his personal bodyguard.

Curious, Dazai wants to see how far people can go while under the effect of vampirism to reclaiming some sort of humanity. He goes on to trying to have conversations with Chuuya next and seeing if Chuuya would be interested in eating something that doesn't come from humans.

If it came down to it and the organization fell apart and the vampire army got wiped out, Dazai would personally choose to set Chuuya free, even knowing that Chuuya would likely turn it around on Dazai and blame him for everything. But it's like releasing a bird from a cage and allowing them to spread their wings. Dazai, also, never cared for what the DoA wanted to do. He's just looking for a reason to keep going and to see what humanity has to offer.

He finds it in Chuuya, who even while under the effect of vampirism, tried so hard to break free as shown over time by his human traits returning and the ability to talk slowly coming back to him until Dazai ends it once and for all.

wwx: would be a good driver if he didn't get distracted every 5 minutes and constantly forget where he's supposed to be going (jc swears he does the latter on purpose but doesn't have any proof yet). when he's not distracted hes usually going 5 above the speed limit. has a random playlist for all driving occasions ("why do you have a 'just brunt down walmart and now I'm on the run' playlist?" "why shouldn't i?")

lwj: the example of the perfect driver. will drive the exact speed limit and will refuse to go a single mile over ("lan zhan please we dont have to drive so slow" "its a school zone.the speed limit is 15" "lan zhan the school has been closed for 10 years pls go faster im begging" "no."). mostly plays classical music, podcasts or the rare romance song while driving

xl: decent driver when he gets the opportunity to drive. goes hard on the brakes bc he scared of hitting someone. will let people cut in front of him bc "they might have somewhere important to be". mostly listens to random radio stations for variety

hc: speed demon unless he's with xl. even then he's still a pretty safe driver. carries sticky notes to rate other drivers skills and put them on their car with notes (no one has gotten over a 7). extremely picky about music while driving, if he hates the song you play your banned from ever playing music in his car again. will always listen to music selections from xl

sy/sqq: hates driving with every fiber of being but still got his license. has extreme road rage and has pulled up next to someone to rage abt their driving to their face (spolier he made them cry). will only drive if he actually needs too, this man is a passenger princess. not too picky abt music surprisingly but doesn't like the volume to be too loud

lbh: very good driver. if you piss him off while driving he will either ride way too close to your bumper and follow you for a short time to freak you out or start driving purposefully slow and refuse to let you pass. Music depends on his mood or the events he has going in that day. date nights will be romance and happy songs, dropping sqq off to hangout out with lqg will be heartbreak/when will my love return songs, returning from a business meeting is loud ass rage music

I'll be honest, I'm not happy with the way the first two turned out. I've actually had them done for a few days and wasn't going to post them because I wasn't happy with them.

But I realized that would go against my own personal beliefs, which is that sharing even the art we're not proud of is important. Not everything we create will be or has to be perfect.

Sure, I kind of hate the way Chuuya's face looks, (also I think I got his hat wrong) Dazai's hair and both their feet. All I can really see are what I call "the screw ups". Fortunately, that's not all there is. For example, I'm very proud of how Atsushi turned out despite the fact that he kind of resembles Beast!Atsushi... I'm also not fussy on the shots without his jacket...

This turned into a long ramble, sorry, I just wanted to show off some A Graveyard For Angels designs. I gave Chuuya a brown jacket after a lot of back and forth with the colours and Dazai's bolo tie is more blue.

i just want an excuse to keep writing dazai, fyodor, and nikolai because they're a chaotic trio

especially nikolai and dazai cause nikolai would refuse to let dazai die because it isn't his time to die yet, he still has a role to play. nikolai wouldn't stand for dazai's shenanigans at all tbh

they'd bicker like kids and all fyodor overhears from nikolai is just you can't die because i say so! and fyodor just. blinks. because they're supposed to be carrying out their orders but nikolai has to begrudgingly make sure dazai doesn't go and jump in a river and ruin their plans

and since nikolai's ability technically works on dazai so long as dazai doesn't touch the portal itself, that could make for some funny interactions. he just gets teleported and sucked out of the river

fyodor's takeaway from all this is just huh, so this is what dazai-kun does in his free time

“Well, that’s not an obvious death trap or anything,” Sigma muttered as he listened to the girl onscreen try to call out to the disembodied voice leading her the wrong way. “Just keep following Sam.”

Nikolai didn’t react at first, so Sigma glanced over to see if he’d dozed off. They’d been playing this game for a while, and he didn’t even want to think about what time it could be. Instead of snoozing, Nikolai wore a strange expression on his face, one that Sigma recognized as his I’m-about-to-do-Something-Stupid grin.

Immediately, Sigma’s stomach dropped.

“Nikolai, no.”

“Aw, but Sigma! What if that’s our friend down there? We have to investigate!” Nikolai insisted, his innocent tone completely at odds with the manic glee that brightened his eyes. He clicked on the decision to investigate the voice, and Ashley moved forward on the screen.

Sigma tried to stay calm as he watched Nikolai fearlessly march his character toward the voice, accompanied now by the jerking sound of someone or something pushing against a locked trap door. His heart lurched each time the wooden door did, frantic and violent, and Sigma’s attempt to swallow his nerves only ended up with the sour taste of anxiety clinging to his tongue. 

Nikolai paused in front of the door, taking a moment to snicker gleefully to himself. He turned his gaze toward Sigma, his smile mean and vicious, and Sigma had an immediate flashback to their playthrough of The Quarry, particularly the moment where Nikolai ‘convinced’ Fyodor to open the trap door even though it was the most obvious death flag in the game.

“It’s clearly a trap,” Sigma tried again, already resigned to poor Ashley’s fate. He was honestly surprised she had survived this long with Nikolai controlling her, but this seemed like it would be a particularly brutal way to go. “That’s not Jessica. You know that.”

Nikolai hummed to himself, rocking from side to side as he completely ignored Sigma’s plea to save Ashley from an unfortunate end. He clicked the button, and his character bent down in front of the trap door. “But it could be, Sigma! What if we’re killing poor Jessica by leaving her to die here?”

“It’s not Jessica!”

“It sounds like her!”

“You know these creatures can mimic human speech! It’s not her! Fedya, please tell him!” Sigma turned to Fyodor, expecting support from the least likely source.

Fyodor yawned, and Sigma could read clear boredom in his violet eyes. He seemed utterly impassive from within his blanket burrito, too tired for Nikolai’s nonsense or Sigma’s pleading. He likely didn’t care what happened here, likely hadn’t cared for a while, but maybe he would see reason and stop Nikolai’s antics before they got another one of their characters killed!

So when Fyodor leaned his head forward as though to listen to the voice and make a formal declaration, Sigma wasn’t sure why he was so surprised by the result.

“I think Nikolai’s reasoning makes perfect sense. That could be Jessica, or it could be a monster. We will never truly know unless we open the door… correct?” Fyodor’s eyes glittered with mischief, and his mouth curved into a devilish smile the moment Nikolai began cheering from the other side of the couch.

“Guess not! Let’s open the door!”

“Are you kidding me?!” Sigma grumbled, jostled back and forth by Nikolai’s incessant bouncing. He faced the screen again, his teeth caught between his lower lip as he watched Nikolai happily undo the latch to the trap door.

The door opened, and all went quiet. Then the creature burst through the opening, and Sigma yelped in time with Ashley. He watched in horror as the monster grabbed the girl by the face, but the screen cut away before he had to see her head ripped off. He still had to listen to the crunch, the thud, and he covered his eyes to keep from seeing her disembodied head falling into view.

“Oospie! Guess it was a trap!” Nikolai practically howled with laughter, and he kicked his feet out in unrestrained glee at the carnage he had caused.

“What do you mean, oopsie!? Of course it was a trap! Ugh! How is this game both better and worse than the other one?!” Sigma wailed, not looking at the screen again until he heard the trap door close with another resounding thud.

“Really? I thought The Quarry’s death scenes were so much better! More blood! More violence! And we got to chop somebody’s arm off!”

“I did like the werewolves better,” Sigma admitted as he hesitantly returned his attention to the screen.

The point of view had shifted to Chris now, so Nikolai happily handed the controller over to Fyodor, entirely oblivious to Sigma’s tired glare. Undeniably pleased with himself, he snuggled up to Sigma and began to cover the side of his face in a plethora of chaotic kisses.

“Aw, don’t worry, Sigma! I’m sure that won’t happen again!”

“It better not!”

“Listen to Kolya. Do you truly believe that this game would try to trick us with the same scenario when we just saw what happened to poor, sweet Ashley?” Fyodor teased as he followed the same path that Nikolai had.

To the same intersection. To the same pause, the same voice, the same decision—

Sigma sighed, defeated, as Fyodor’s click the option to investigate the voice. Nikolai’s feral giggles returned, and he leaned forward in anticipation of yet another gruesome decapitation.

And as Chris lumbered toward his own death, Sigma wondered why he’d agreed to play this after all the horrors he’d endured last time. Why had he expected this to be any different? Why hadn’t he learned his lesson?

“After all, what fool would make the same mistake twice?”

Some added changes to my Purpose! AU which featured brief DOA! Chuuya then moves on to ADA! Chuuya (bro is moving around organizations like PARKOUR!!)

So how Chuuya gets affiliated with the DOA-

I don't have all the details yet and I prefer to keep them more vague in the au since I genuinely have no idea which direction this story will go and I'd like to keep my options open-

But in some way either:

Fyodor kills Dazai

OR

the Port Mafia has some part in dazai's death (chuuya is not involved) like they refuse to aid the ada or just outright have the chance to save him but don't

(Likely due to something said in the earlier seasons where mori was scared dazai would kill him to assume his position as Port mafia boss)

If fyodor were to kill Dazai, it would take place a little after he takes over Bram's body, and to keep it EXTRA juicy Dazai is killed by falling off a roof, and somehow Chuuya isn't able to use his ability to save him. The one time this godforsaken ability would have helped him, it only aided in the loss of someone important yet again.

Fyodor gets Chuuya to join by saying that a world without his ability would free him from the burden of it, as well as proving that he and arahabaki are separate entities, meaning he is in fact human.

He also ties in how having this ability only brought him to the loss of all the important people in his life, and the loss of Dazai is kind of like the last straw

If the Port Mafia were to have a part in Dazai's death, chuuya would realize that his loyalty to Dazai is greater than his loyalty to the Port Mafia and leave of his own volition, no emotional Manipulation necessary. Joining the Decay of Angels would mean that his ability, as well as the abilities that in his eyes only bring more problems into this world, will one day disappear, and maybe he can finally live the normal, human life he earned.

Either way, it ends with a not-fully-healed-but-on-his-way-there chuuya joining the ADA in Dazai's place. He starts to resemble Dazai more, like with a slightly calmer, looser, free-er demeanor and even donning his tan trench coat. In this au, dazai and the others chuuya lost are to chuuya the way odasaku and ango are to canon dazai--they are the stepping stones that lead him to the light, the reason he joins the side that saves people.

I also wanna get some feedback on this au especially how you guys would prefer the way dazai dies, either by fyodor or by the PM. I haven't really decided yet and I'm not exactly sure what would be more in character for chuuya's writing. I may start a poll too

It's an unexpected downpour the day Ango visits Oda. He doesn't have his umbrella, but he can't bring himself to mind the rain soaking into his clothes.

He brought flowers. A whole bouquet.

They're pretty, but he knows they'll wilt quickly just like all the others he's brought him.

It's okay. He'll buy him more.

The rain makes it near impossible to see where he's going, makes his glasses virtually useless, but he's walked this route so many times that it doesn't matter.

Gently, he sets the flowers down.

And to a grave, he whispers a precious secret, "I never stopped loving you."
