seeing a bunch of dead animals on my dash. why do people not tag animal death and injury????????? seeing a graphic pic of a dead rat literally the day after i buried my own baby. i understand if it doesn't bother you but fuck me. there are people out here who love and care for these same creatures that are vilified by society.

seeing shit like that whilst grieving is so upsetting.

My roommate's cat is very old. Recently, it was determined that he needs to take a pill every day. This week has been the first time since then that I've catsit for her while she's away, which is a regular occurrence for us. And y'all. I cannot do this. I got instructions from her, I googled it myself, and even with all that, getting this cat to take his pill is too much for me. The one time I thought it went well I found the pill spit out on the ground later.

And the pill was...y'know, that was the solution we found to issues he was having in his old age that were going to lead, very soon, to euthanasia. Him not taking it is not an option.

I have no idea what to do. I'm exhausted. I don't know what to say to my roommate when she comes home. How do I even have that conversation??

This might be an odd thing to ask but my friend just had to do their first cull (quail) and is feeling a little freaked out by it still. Do you maybe have any advice for like, coping with that?

I'll put this under a cut, since it involves animal death

I guess it depends on what they are freaking out about, the physical sensation of any part of it (for instance, if they did a butcher job to use the meat, instead of a euthanasia job for burial or something) or the empathy part of it (taking a life personally).

If it's the former, rub your (general you) hands on some kind of rough surface (like a bristle brush/dish scrub brush), trim your nails short, and take a long, hot shower, and light a smelly candle. It won't particularly stop you from thinking about it, but it will make sure that the actual physical stimuli that remind you (ghost sensations on nerves, any remaining scent of blood or offal or dander, sound) get pushed back in memory behind the new sensations and/or removed.

The empathy part is harder, and there's just not a lot you (again, general you) can do about it, and I think that's okay, actually. It SHOULD freak you out the first time you take a life, and it should freak you out a little every time after that, because it gives weight to this action that this action wholly deserves. You are ending a life that you were responsible for starting, and that's heavy and deserves respect. This is the reality of breeding and raising animals for use, and at the end of the day, your friend will have to sit with that, and decide if they're okay with it if they want to keep doing it. There's no shortcut in this matter.

Some of the things I do made it easier to come to terms with for me. The first is to do my best to produce animals that WILL have a use (as opposed to producing just to produce and not having a plan for what to do with them), and the second is to use as much of what you produce as possible. For me, this means either selling the birds to others for use, or using the meat/bones myself and giving the rest back to nature (usually my crows come and eat offal the same day I do butchering). I find it easier to handle if I set the expectation from the start that a bird will be a use animal not a pet animal (ie, food or eggs or whatever that I intend to invest time and care into, compared to a companion I would emotionally invest in as well)- being able to compartmentalize this distinction is essential, and there are also going to be times when you have to make the sucky decision to end an animal you got emotionally invested in anyway (illness, injury, old age, behavioral changes, etc) because you're human and that's what we often do. I'm also more comfortable culling if I know the animal will have/has had a quality life (both because the meat will be better and because they deserve it). Lastly, it helps to remind myself that I produce some animals for a purpose and when I cull they are either fulfilling that purpose (used by me/others) or they are incapable of fulfilling that purpose (free to go to others/rest). Keeping them longer than that is, imo, a disservice to them.

I'm sorry there's not an easy fix-it. I hope that your friend is able to recover and keep raising quail, if they enjoy the rest of it.

I really hate it when people act like madoka magica somehow invented darker magical girl stories, because like…

Sailor Moon (in both the original manga and anime) had darker moments in it. Heck the ending of the first season shows our main cast getting killed off one by one.

Revolutionary Girl Utena (yes I consider rgu a magical girl anime you can fight me on this) while not dark and bleak right out of the gate slowly but surely shows it’s more ugly side as the anime goes on

so like…yeah. There are probably way more examples but magical girl anime before pmmm weren’t always sunshine and rainbows, they did have darker undertones to them, it’s just that madoka magica was more upfront with the more darker and bleaker aspects of its story.

I've had to hand feed Billi twice a day for like three days now and my hands and fingertips are so so sore and tired from using the feeding syringe

The vet is supposed to call today so we can figure out what to do moving forward, whether we continue hand-feeding but with diabetic formula wet food, or try the appetite stimulant again, or what

I've already had to set in my mind, "If her condition gets to X point, then we'll have to let her go" but she isn't there yet. The vets have said that, even if we figured out what was wrong (besides the diabetes and arthritis which we already know about) there isn't much we could do about it at this point.

So I guess I'm just making this post to let y'all know that Billi is now in what I would consider palliative care. We can't cure her, but we're doing all we can to keep her comfortable and happy. Well, as happy as a cat titled "the Belligerent" can be

spoilers for season one of Hannibal (and Death Note) ahead

I just finished watching season one of Hannibal (instead of doing my assignments), and what a diabolical man is Hannibal Lecter. I mean, he had this plot in mind to frame Will from the very start!

It was like watching Light and L duel it out in a battle of wits, except L (being Will) was way too trusting and unsuspecting of those around him and constantly having a mental breakdown, and Light's (being Hannibal) smarts superseded his L. And just as in Death Note, Light comes out on top (for now).

I honestly cannot imagine how I will grow to like Hannibal's character again in future seasons as the rest of the fandom seems to have, but we shall see. And I looked it up, encephalitis only takes a few days/weeks to go away when treated, but when left untreated, it is catastrophic to the victim. Will would have been fine had he been treated, but Hannibal decided to lie about it and ruin Will's life all because he was "curious" (and I suppose to avoid getting caught, but still).

Am eager to see how the rest of the show plays out.

I read a post that completely opened my eyes on how I feel about jjk and the reason I was emotionally detached on how it ended and of the loss of other characters.

It wasn't because of the continuous deaths nor of the endless fightings and fast pacing of the manga but rather with the lack of fillers to provide world building and develop character relationship and interactions.

After the shibuya arc, there was no silly fillers post shibuya. Too many characters died and many new characters introduced yet there wasn't enough chapter that provided character interaction and for them to grow. Even a bonus chapter would have been fine to at least create emotional impact within the viewers (heck I would gobble up even a written note or story at the end of each manga if it happened). Without this things the characters imo felt flat, there was no depth, seeing them die or in critical conditions in the fight, I didn't even mind nor care.

Personally I would've liked to see silly interactions with other characters just joking around or story centric fillers that would have developed the world building.

I hate to bother everyone again, but even though it does piss anons off, I just need to use this space.

Nikki is back in the hospital. My mom says “Why am I wanting to kill off the dog so quickly?” because I keep saying that I think she should be put to sleep. My dog has her good days and her bad days and that makes the decision so hard, but I really feel like she’s just lingering. It’s not fair to her. It’s so hard right now because I’ve had so much thrown at me. If you follow my blog, you know what that is.

Edit: vet said it’s time to put her to sleep soon.

(also I don't know what it's called but I'm pretty sure there is a study where if you play a noise when someone feels a certain emotion and you replay that sound when nothings happending that someone will feel that emotion again and it was used here I'm almost sure But I might be wrong on that one)

A TFA short story about Alpha Trion coping with the time where Ultra Magnus didn't survive the trauma.

The Autobots has created a statue as a memorial of their great leader and hero, Ultra Magnus, who unfortunately didn't survive the trauma left by that hateful spy Shockwave. Everyone would come by the statue and mourn for their leader, sending tribute cyberflower and praying for the future of Autobots to be filled with peace and victory.

Most visitors have left Cybertron Square to retire for the night. Only one small red and purple figure still leaned against the foot of the statue. His optics dimmed with peace. It would have looked like he had accidentally fallen asleep while admiring the statue, if not for the visible tears line that has long dry up from his face. He was mourning for the death of his comrade, a friend, even lover.

Alpha Trion remembered how he stayed up near the berth of his ill-ridden lover, wishing comfort and peace for his dear Ultra Magnus. The latter would smile lovingly, although pain still coarsed through his frame.

"Don't worry, my sweetspark. I'll be okay after a few cycle of rest."

"It's has been that long?" Alpha Trion shaken up a bit, surveyed his surroundings to realise the sky has already darkened.

Alpha Trion thanked the guard as they continued their patrol. The older mech looked up at his lover's face, the mirror image of Ultra Magnus oversee the path ahead, brightened with determination, but he won't be able to look at Alpha's way ever again.

With one last look, the lone shadow finally stood up and dragged along his sadness back into his quarters.
