The day after discovering that Ian Thomas was dead, the girls sat in the courtyard of the school, quietly chatting among themselves.
"Is this a suicide note or a confession?" Aria asked. The five girls were looking at a picture of Ian's suicide note that was found next to his body.
"It's both," answered Spencer.
"How do you have this, Em?" [Y/N] asked, confused as to how Emily had a photo of the note on her iPad.
"I sent it to her," Hanna replied. "I took a picture with my phone before we called the cops."
"It's weird," Emily said, a disturbed glint in her eyes. "Why would Ian kill himself just as he was about to skip town with Melissa?"
"Maybe he realized that he was gonna get caught," [Y/N] suggested and Spencer nodded in agreement. "Yeah, he knew he couldn't hide forever. Even with Melissa and Wren's help."
"He was probably desperate," Aria commented.
"Look, who cares why Ian did it?" Hanna spoke, a little annoyed. "The important thing is Ali's killer is dead and we are no longer people of interest."
"Why am I not feeling relieved right now?" Emily asked, still not convinced.
"Oh, Em, come on," Aria sighed. "For months, we've been about as welcome in this town as a cold sore. Now, people know that we've been telling the truth."
"And, Ian is out of our lives for good," [Y/N] added, Aria and Hanna nodding in agreement with her.
"Yes, but A isn't," Emily pressed and Spencer sighed out loud. "Can we please slay one dragon at a time?"
Spencer suddenly sat up and turned off the iPad. Her friends frowned at her behavior but soon understood when Garrett Reynolds stopped next to their table.
"Hey," he greeted simply.
"Hey, what are you doing here?" Spencer asked curiously.
"I just came to return some evidence that we took from the field hockey office," he answered and looked around once before lowering his voice further. "Look, I just wanted to say I'm sorry you all had to be the ones who found him."
"Melissa is the one who found him," Spencer replied.
"I'm sorry," Garrett said. "Then again, it could've been worse."
"What do you mean?" Aria asked him.
"Bodies decay. He had been dead for at least a week," he replied, making the girls freeze in their seats.
"Give my best to your family," he told Spencer and gave a nod to the other girls before walking away.
"A week?" Hanna whispered.
"That's impossible," [Y/N] said. "Wasn't he texting Melissa?"
"No, he wasn't," Emily said, realizing that her suspicions might be true after all. "I'm betting it was A."
"Why would A pretend to be Ian and then lead us to his body?" asked Aria.
"Does it matter?" Spencer asked. Although she looked stunned by Garrett's revelation about Ian's death, it was clear she wanted to move on from this topic. "The guy was scum and now, he's dead scum. Who cares if A found him first?"
"Aren't you the least bit curious as to why A would be involved?" Emily asked. "I mean, what does A want?"
"You know what I want?" Hanna asked. "I want to enjoy my life again before A finds a way to ruin it."
Hanna got up and walked inside the school with Aria and Spencer following behind. [Y/N] got up to do the same when she noticed Emily making no move from her seat.
"What is it, Em?" she asked softly.
"We now know A is involved," Emily answered. "Doesn't that make you nervous?
"Of course, it does," [Y/N] replied honestly. "Just for today, I wanna forget about A. I'm still recovering from seeing Ian's dead body last night."
Emily's previous apprehension shifted to understanding as she held [Y/N]'s hand. [Y/N] smiled and squeezed Emily's hand in hers.
"But, we'll figure this out," she said, hoping to reassure Emily. "We always do."
Later that night, after taking a shower, [Y/N] was dressed in her comfiest pajamas. She was settled comfortably in her bed, reading, when there was a knock on her bedroom door.
"Come in," she called out, placing the bookmark on the current page she was reading, and closed the book.
The door opened and her parents appeared in the doorway as she placed the book on her nightstand. It gave her a sense of déjà vu except for her brother's absence, who went back to his apartment.
"Hi honey," they spoke at the same time and [Y/N] smiled.
"Hello," she said back. "You guys haven't slept yet?"
"No," Leslie replied. [Y/N] moved over and Leslie sat in the space next to her while James sat next to his wife. "Your father and I just got off the phone with Veronica."
"Uh oh," [Y/N]'s response was rather automatic.
"Nothing bad, we promise," James replied instantly, holding his daughter's hand on top of the comforter. "Veronica asked if we could be there at Ian's funeral for them. For Spencer."
"Of course," [Y/N] nodded and her parents shared a look.
"Sweetheart, you don't have to go if you don't want to," Leslie told her. "No one will say anything if you don't go. Even if someone says something, it doesn't matter."
"I want to be there for Spencer," [Y/N] answered. "Besides, this feels like a closure. The closure my friends and I have been looking for since- since they found Ali."
Her parents nodded, understanding where she was coming from.
"We also wanted to apologize for not believing you and your friends about Ian," Leslie said with guilt in her eyes and [Y/N] shook her head. "It's alright. It didn't help that Ian disappeared from the church that night. We had no proof other than our words and experience."
"That should've been more than enough," James argued, angry at himself. "If that wasn't enough, we agreed with Dr. Sullivan and Veronica when they suggested you girls should spend time apart."
[Y/N] could tell her parents were extremely guilt with everything. She was grateful for their understanding; at the same time, she felt a little guilty as well for meeting with her friends behind her parents' backs.
"I have to tell you both something," she spoke, looking between them sheepishly. "My friends and I didn't stop hanging out… completely. We still met up sometimes to talk about everything that's been going on. So, I'm sorry too."
"I had a feeling you girls might your find your way," Leslie said with a playful glare, ruffling [Y/N]'s hair and the latter laughed. "Dad? Are you upset?"
"Of course not," replied James. "This just means I don't have to drown in guilt anymore."
The three of them laughed and the parents engulfed their daughter in a bear hug. According to them, the town's biggest nightmare was over and they couldn't be more relieved.
Next day at school, [Y/N] along with Aria, Hanna and Spencer were sitting in their class and quietly chatting before the teacher arrived.
A few minutes later, Emily entered the classroom and rushed over to her friends.
"Ian didn’t commit suicide," she stated with a finality in her tone. "The entire suicide letter is made up of A texts."
"What?" [Y/N] and Spencer exclaimed at the same time.
"How do you know that?" Aria asked.
"I read the note again and a couple of words stuck out to me," Emily explained. "I checked my old text messages. Come on."
Emily gestured the girls to follow her to the back of the classroom for privacy. She pulled out a paper from her notebook and Aria grabbed it first, reading the content.
"I killed Alison. I lost my temper, because she knew too much."
[Y/N]'s eyes widened at the last sentence. 'She knew too much' was text she and her friends had received after A tried to kill Hanna.
"But, there is only so much you can bury and it won't be that easy," Aria continued reading. "But, I know how to get rid of the pain. I can't run anymore. Come and find me. Ian."
"So, these are the parts from the texts?" Hanna asked, pointing at the parts that were printed and pasted on the paper.
"There are only five people that know about the texts," said Emily. "Us and A."
"How did you figure this out?" Aria asked.
"Please. I've been watching Wheel of Fortune with my mom since I was three," said Emily with a hint of humor.
"If A wrote this, that means Ian never actually confessed to killing Ali," Spencer said, her eyes filling with dread.
"It gets worse," Emily added, making the girls look at her in growing worry. "Logan Reed? The guy who dropped off money for Ian the night of the sting? I know where he works. We need more answers."
The day of Ian's funeral arrived.
[Y/N] was dressed in a simple black dress with her hair in a simple half up-half down with some strands framing her face.
She arrived at the church with her family and it didn't take long before she spotted her friends. Except for Spencer as she was already inside the church with her family.
James, Leslie, and Sid went ahead to greet the Hastings while [Y/N] joined Aria, Emily and Hanna.
The four girls walked inside the church and the bells went off.
"Who's ringing it this time?" Hanna asked quietly, sarcasm lacing her voice.
"Hey, thanks for being here," Spencer said, walking over to her friends.
"Of course," [Y/N] smiled. "How's your family holding up?"
Spencer didn't answer and turned to look at Melissa. The girls followed the direction Spencer was looking and saw Melissa standing at the back. She was staring down at the floor with no expression on her face and had one arm wrapped around her protruded stomach.
A wave of sadness washed over [Y/N] as she took in Melissa's state. The older woman's gut-wrenching scream from the night they discovered Ian's dead body still rang in her ear sometimes. Melissa didn't deserve to deal with such tragedy, especially while being pregnant.
"What are the police doing here?" Emily questioned when she noticed several police officers stationed at the entrance and scattered throughout the church.
"Uh, my parents wanted them here in case any uninvited guests showed up," Spencer replied quietly.
"I thought my no-party-crashers policy was strict," Hanna joked lightly.
"I think Spencer means angry mob with torches," said Aria.
"I should get back to my family," Spencer smiled tightly. "Thanks again."
A while later, everyone gathered at the cemetery and watched as Ian's casket was lowered to the ground. The five best friends picked up dirt and threw it on the casket, one by one.
[Y/N] was the last to throw the dirt and dusted her hands. She glanced up and she was taken aback to see Jason sitting on a bench in the distance. He resembled a lost little boy as he sat by himself, staring down at his hands, and her heart went out to him.
Soon, the service was completed and most people had left. The girls' parents stayed behind, catching up, while [Y/N] stood to the side, debating on whether she should go check up on Jason or not.
"You should go talk to him," Hanna spoke, coming to stand next to her.
"What?" [Y/N] asked.
"You should go talk to him," Hanna repeated. "I mean, you were thinking the same, right?"
"Well, I was debating on whether I should or not," [Y/N] admitted. "And, I didn't think he would be here."
"Me neither," replied Hanna.
"Waiting for your parents?" Emily asked, walking up to [Y/N] and Hanna. The girls nodded in response and it didn't take long before Emily noticed Jason's presence in the cemetery. "Who's he waiting for?"
Hanna shrugged while [Y/N] said, "Maybe, he came for the same reason we did."
"To spit on Ian's grave?" Emily scoffed, making her friends laugh a little.
"No, for closure probably," said [Y/N].
"Well, I still think he's creepy," Emily said, crossing her arms across her chest. "Even if he wasn't hiding Ian, the guy's a freak and always has been."
Hanna looked at [Y/N], who pursed her lips.
"Anyway, I should go," Emily said, facing the girls again. "Tell your families I said goodbye."
"See you later, Em," [Y/N] replied just Hanna said, "will do."
Hanna turned to [Y/N] once Emily was out of earshot, "don't take her words to heart."
"I won't," [Y/N] smiled, shaking her head. "But, yes, I'll go talk to him."
"Good," Hanna smiled back. "Talk to you later?"
"Definitely," [Y/N] nodded and Hanna gave her a hug before walking away.
After making sure her parents and brother were still chatting with the Montgomery's, [Y/N] made her way towards Jason.
"Hi Jason," she said quietly, not wanting to startle him.
He looked up at her, surprise crossing his features, "Hey [Y/N]."
"Is it okay if I--" [Y/N] pointed to the seat next to him and he moved over instantly, giving her space. "Go ahead."
"Thanks," she smiled as she sat down and clasped her palms in her lap. "I didn't think you would be here."
"I didn't think you'd be here either," he replied, looking at her.
"For Spencer and her family," she answered and he nodded in understanding. "How are you holding up?"
"He was one of my best friends," he stated solemnly. "And, he killed my sister. I- it's hard to believe it. But, I got to admit that Ian and I stopped being friends after-"
[Y/N] looked at him curiously when he paused, "after he what?"
"Doesn't matter now," he shook his head. "How are you? I heard you and your friends were with Melissa when she found him."
"It was… unexpected," she answered. "We were following Melissa and Wren, because we were afraid Ian might hurt her. But, we didn't think we would find his… corpse, instead. I could still hear Melissa's scream in my head."
"I'm sorry," he said, sympathy lacing his voice, and she smiled a little.
"I just hope Ali can finally rest now," she said and he nodded, hoping for the same.
"She was so fearless," he remarked with a small, fond smile. "She used to threaten me all the time with one thing or another."
"Sounds like Ali," [Y/N] chuckled, Jason joining in.
"She was extremely smart, even as a kid," he continued. "She was fearless when she needed to be. I was always a little jealous of that… of her.
"I guess, that's why my parents can't even look at me anymore. They know they lost the wrong kid," he was holding back tears as he finished speaking and [Y/N]'s eyes widened at his words.
"Don't say that," she said back, grabbing his left hand with her right one on instinct. "Look, maybe you coming here today was a mistake."
"The opposite, to be honest," he replied, holding her hand, accepting the comfort she was giving him with the small gesture. "You don't know how good it feels to know it wasn't me."
"What do you mean by that?" she asked, confused.
"I don't remember much from the night Ali died," he explained. "I blacked out and woke up the next morning with a wicked hangover and-"
He paused, reaching into his coat pocket with his free hand. He pulled a piece of paper and held it out to her, "and, this."
She removed her hand from his and took the folded piece of paper. She opened it and her eyes widened as she read the words on it, 'I know what you did.'
"Jason, who gave you this?" she asked, facing him again. "What does this mean?"
"I don't know, but it almost destroyed me," he replied, facing forward.
"You thought you killed Alison?" she whispered, afraid of saying the sentence out loud.
"Like I said, I was jealous of her," he replied quietly. "And, when I got loaded, I got angry."
[Y/N] looked down at the ground, processing the last few minutes.
"But, Ian's confession changed everything," he said, relief visible in his tone. "He did it, not me."
[Y/N] remained silent as her mind was fluttering with thoughts. Not for one moment did she think that Jason killed his sister. However, she also knew that Ian's confession was fake.
So, who really killed Ali? And, who wrote that note for Jason?
She looked down at the paper one more time, her eyes scanning the words. She didn't know if she was being paranoid, but the handwriting looked similar to Ian's 'suicide note' which was actually written by A. So, she couldn't help but wonder if A had been around on the day Ali disappeared and messed with Jason for some reason.
"[Y/N]?" Jason's voice pulled her out of her thoughts. "You okay? You've been silent for a while."
"Yeah, I'm okay," she cleared her throat, before passing the note back to him. "I think you should get rid of this. You- you never know with the people in this town."
He stared at her for a couple of seconds before nodding. He took the note from her and tucked it inside his coat pocket again to take care of it later.
Before either could of them could speak more, several footsteps coming in their direction made them look up.
[Y/N] felt her heart drop to her stomach when she saw that it was her parents and brother. The three of them looked confused seeing her sitting with Jason. She stood up once they were closer and so did Jason. Leslie was the first to break the silence as she smiled at Jason kindly.
"Hi Jason, how are you?" she asked.
"I'm good, Mrs. [y/l/n] and you?" Jason replied back politely.
"Good, thank you," said Leslie.
"Are your parents here?" James asked.
"No, they're not," said Jason. "Coming back to Rosewood is not easy for them."
"Give them our best," Leslie said with sympathy and Jason nodded, "I will, thank you."
"Are you planning on staying?" Sid asked next.
[Y/N] was a silent spectator and she felt a little embarrassed with all the questions her family kept asking Jason. But, he was patiently answering them.
"I do," he replied, clearing his throat. "I've been doing some renovations around the house. They're almost complete."
"Good, good," Sid nodded. "Well, reach out if you need anything."
"Absolutely, don't be a stranger," Leslie added.
"I appreciate it, thank you," Jason said with a small smile.
"Well, we should get going now," James said. "Good to see you, Jason."
"Likewise, Mr. [y/l/n]," Jason replied.
"Bye, Jason," [Y/N] said with a small wave and he smiled at her politely, "Bye, [Y/N]."
Leslie and Sid exchanged their goodbyes with Jason as well before the family of four walked to the parking lot.
"Honey, I didn't know you spoke to Jason DiLaurentis," James broke the silence first.
"Oh, I do… occasionally," [Y/N] replied, a little anxious. She didn't think she would have to talk with her family about Jason this soon. "I mean, I just say hello when I see him around."
"So, this was not the first time?" James asked. He was trying to seem nonchalant, but he didn't like seeing his daughter around a… boy.
"No, not really," [Y/N] replied in a small voice. She didn't want to lie, because her family must've noticed the comfort with which she was speaking to Jason.
"How about we stop at the Grille for some lunch?" Leslie asked once they reached the car, trying to change the topic. Just like her husband, she was curious as to when her daughter started talking to Jason like a friend. At the same time, she knew [Y/N] would talk to them when she was ready.
James, who knew what his wife was doing, stared at her. [Y/N] and Sid watched as their parents had a silent conversation before James sighed in defeat.
"To the Grille, it is," he spoke, getting into the driver's side of the car. Leslie smiled in victory and winked playfully at [Y/N] before getting on the passenger's side.
"I'm here if you need anything," Sid told her simply and opened the backdoor of the car for her to go in first.
"Thank you," she smiled at him before getting inside the car.
Sid got in the seat next to her and closed the door. The ride to the Grille was silent but not uncomfortable.
[Y/N] was grateful that her family did not push her to share more about what's been going on with Jason and her. Not much happened for her to talk about anyway… not yet, at least.

Winx Girls as Pretty Little Liars
Bloom as Spencer Hastings
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here, I struggle a bit. On the one hand, she has the artsiness of Aria Montgomery, and her family interaction with her parents is similar to Aria. What I mean by that is that they would have fun game nights like the Montgomerys. Bloom has a close relationship with her mom, just like Aria has with her.
However, one thing I wanna focus on is the obsessive nature of Bloom. She does research and bites into the small information she has. And goes on to stubbornly research and try to find out what is going on. (For example, when Stella's ring was stolen in season 1 by the Trix she tries to research why that could be and then wants to figure out what the Dragon could mean. Further, her wants to figure out who Daphnee is). And that is like Spencer Hastings!
In the first season, especially, she reminds me of Spencer. As I mentioned before, she desperately tries to figure out what is going on with her past or other happenings such as with the Trix. She has a complicated family life. As she finds out, she is adopted (Spencer was adopted by Veronica Hastings). Although here I wanna point out the family situation is COMPLETLEY different (looking at you Peter Hastings 😒👀! You could never be Mike).
Although the relationship between Spencer's mom and Spencer is rocky for a couple of seasons, after the time jump they have a wonderful relationship. Spencer struggles with the realization that her mom is not her biological mom same like Bloom.
They both struggle with sleeping (at least Bloom in season 1 and Spencer in seasons like nr 4).
They both are the leaders and take charge of a situation. They both struggle with their identities, although in different ways. Both come down to one issue, and that would be belonging. They both feel an ambiguity of belonging. They rely on their friends to feel like they belong when they struggle, such as Bloom with her birth parents when she relies on her friends to talk about it. While Spencer relies on her friends to have feelings of belonging when she feels alienated from her family. Overall, they are both loving friends. They both would do anything for their friends and would charge into danger for them.
Do you agree?
Stella as Hanna Marin
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think Stella resembles Hanna Marin. Hanna's home life is a struggle with her parents. They are divorced like Stellas. Both were put through a lot by their fathers girlfriend and daughter.
They both love fashion, are it-girls or what is typically described as a blond bombshell. However, in the past, Stella struggled with her looks. In season 2 she tells the story of her being the ugly duckling and having to watch the guy she had a crush on go to the dance with the beautiful it-girl. Hanna Marin struggled similarly, she was overweight and picked on for that both by her supposed best friend Alison Dilaurentis (yes even tho I love you Ali I am calling you out) but also by her father who called her little piggy (if I remember correctly, could also have been in the books).
Both stick their foot in their mouth at times and unintentionally say something harmful in a situation
*Alexa play a compilation of Emily Fields saying, "Shut up, Hanna"
Anyway, they are both fiercely loving friends, loyal to a fault, and ride or die for their friends. Even though they sometimes don't seem like the best friend. (We do not acknowledge Hannas behaviour after season 6 a.)
Alexa play a compilation of Stella being "just honest"
To sum it up, they are both blunt.
Hanna is academically not the best. She also does not really care for school and has a clear goal in mind. Working in fashion. Although she has her smart moments it is mostly not in relation to school work.
Stella also does not perform well in school. Yet she has the clear goal of wanting to become a great fairy who brings quarreling loved ones back together (doing so while in style, obviously). Yet throughout the show, Stella is shown to be smart, such as Season 2 final when she cracked the color coordination riddle.
And of course, they are both the funny friend. If you wanna have a good time and be cheered up, they are your go-to friends.
Do you agree?
Layla/Aisha as Emily Fields
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Emily and Layla have a lot of similarities from struggles at home to character to hobbies.
First let's look at the homelife. Emily is still in the closet when the series starts and it is obvious that her mother is strict and at times controlling. Such as in season 1, episode 1 when she talks to Emily about Arias style. She judges Aria and her parents for letting their daughter run around like "a goth" for having pink stripes in her hair. This already sets the mood and showcases that their household is more on the conservative side. This is futher supported by Emilys moms reaction to her being a lesbian (or bisexual in the books. To all my Bi fellows, I see you and love you).
When we find out more about Layla throughout Season 2 and 3 she comes from a more conservative royal family. It also starts with her being raised by nannies and how she had the pressure of holding herself like a proper princess. Further, it spans along a conservative tradition of arranged marriage. Her parents come around in the end and tell her that she is free to choose and you cannot force someone to love another. This is something Emily's mom realizes later on too.
Obviously, these are different situations but they are different genres of media and I just want to showcase in essence that core problems such as family issues, characters (flaws), and other things are present in both shows and some character traits are similar and more with one or another character.
Secondly, they are both sensitive and strong. We see in Pretty little liars that Emily struggles a lot and was considered the "weaker link" of the group. However, over time she became stronger and turned out to be extremly tough. I think that does reflect Layla. As you can see how she was timid and shy in flashbacks and how her homelife had affected her mental state such as her fear of darkness. I think Emily's fear of rejection, accepting and understanding her sexuality has made her struggle a lot and once she is honest with herself and accepts that this is who she is, the viewers can see a change in her. She becomes stronger and fiercely protective over her friends.
Similarly, Layla faces her fear of darkness, isolation, and loneliness throughout seasons 2 and 3. For one, she gets her charmix for overcoming her fear of the darkness because she needs to be strong, get out of the cave, and get back to her friends as she thinks they need her as they are in danger. Another thing I want to point out is in Season 3 when she receives her Enchantix. The girl who is afraid of darkness and then gets blinded by Valtor does not hesitate to save a life over her becoming her eyesight back. Even though that would mean she would always see darkness.
I think both of them have a support system, for Emily the liars (and also her mom) and for Layla, the Winx gave them more confidence and helped them bloom into the amazing women they are.
Lastly, their hobbies. Both Emily and Layla are the sporty friends in their group. Emily is a swimmer, she trains with weights, runs, and also likes to dance. Layla also loves to dance and both Emily and Layla are good at it. Layla likes to partake in sporty activities such as riding a wind glider or we see her often do acrobatic stunts (for example season 3 episode 1 when she catches Bloom's luggage.)
Musa:
Musa as Aria Montgomery
Tumblr media
This is a bit of a tough one and a bit of a stretch but here we go. Musa and Aria have as much in common as they do not. Two factors I want to focus on the most are their love life and their hobbies. I think both characters are underdeveloped. Sadly Musa does not have as much of a backstory or centered storylines as Bloom, Stella, or even Layla. While Aria at first seemed promising and was the main focus of the show which shifted later on. She remained a bland character only having two defining features which are the artsy one and Ezra Fitz (Alexa play Mike's Mic calling crust lord Ezra Fitz out).
Musa has some backstory with her mom dying but the biggest trait is her being musical (I mean she is the fairy of music) but also the back and forth with Riven. I think overall, her big plot lines are Riven and being musical. Therefore, similar to Aria.
But let's get into the similarities. I think both Aria and Musa are outspoken and are not to be messed with when they are angry. Both are shown to have a bit of a temper at times. Both go stubbornly for what they want (even when in this case what Aria wants is Ezra "Felon" Fitz. Which btw I do not blame her for she is a 16 year old and has a crush on her teacher which happens. Then gets groomed by him and believes this is love.)
Anyway, she fights for him like nothing else. (I want to point out that I mean Arias's drive and want. Not that Musa is being groomed or something like that.) Musa's drive is similar to Aria's. I think Musa shows the same drive to follow what she wants with her singing career. Especially when her father is against her singing.
Both their fathers are complicated as Musa's dad was a musician. Yet, he does not want his daughter to be one (which is kind of understandable considering what happened with Musas mom).
Arias's dad hooked up with one of his students too. But yet again this is a situation that in nature is different and therefore not comparable. Although I do condemnm any teacher-studentt relationship no matter if in school or universityy. I just want to focus on the issue of both of them having a specific wish and going for it even if it is disapproved by their parents or a struggle.
Editors note: Byron you ain't shit. When I see you it is on sight for cheating on Ella with one of your students and dating her later on leading to Aria getting hurt. HOWEVER, i give it to you I am 100% on your side when it comes to Ezra Fitz.
Both father's have good reasons to disapprove of their daughters actions and I do think Byron is right and should have pressed charges against Ezra "Fellon" Fitz. And if they actually went through with the storyline in a proper way calling out grooming I think it would have been great.
As I actually think it was a great storyline to do with Musa and her dad. I think this could have been longer and called out how everyone deserves healthcare and poor people should not die just because they have no money to buy medicine. So here I think both Arias and Musa's storylines were a bit butchered and the conflict was cut short.
Anyway, let's move on to their shared hobbies. Both of them are into the arts. Aria has a wide range of art hobbies such as pottery, photography, and singing. Musa shares an interest in singing with Aria. And both are amazing at it. Therefore, they have the title of the artsy friend. This, I think, is their biggest similarity.
Let's talk about their love life. Both of their love life is a struggle. But I want to reiterate here that Ezra and Riven are NOT the same. Ezra is a felon and should rott in jail. While Riven was in part a troubled young man of Musa's age. Riven had a great arc in Season 1 and I wish they would have done more with him. I only watched until season 4 or 5 and honestly. Riven was insufferable to me in Season 4. He could have been great but I think they butchered him. I think Riven could have been developed into a Caleb Rivers-esque character.
Anyway, without looking at the details both Arias and Musa's love life is a bit difficult. Musa likes Riven who has no interest in her before and gets together with Darcy (due to several circumstances), once they get closer to each other they struggle with understanding one another and fight often. It is a constant back and forth.
Aria struggles similarly her love life is a struggle and back and forth.
However, I will NOT compare Ezra to Riven. They are not the same. And it would be an injustice to Riven to compare them.
What about Flora and Tecna?
I think we do not know enough about these characters. Both lack backstory and even though we once visited Flora's home it was not the main focus. So it is a bit of a struggle to find similarities between FLora and Tecna and Pretty Little Liars.
Tecna as Mona Vanderwaal
Tumblr media
If I was forced I would say Tecna and Mona could be compared on the grounds of their high intelligence and computer knowledge. BUT Mona is extremely manipulative, and can become whatever she needs to be in a situation. What I mean by that is she acts like a dumb it-girl, then like the sweet smart girl in recovery, etc. Tecna does not display any of these traits. She is straightforward and doesn't act like anyone but herself. However, I think both Tecna and Mona are protective of their friends and are not to be underestimated (yet routinely are.)
Mona in Season 3 does bad things to the girls but is also trying to help and protect the liars. I think if she was ever one of the liars she would be the protector. Tecna is 100% the protector of the group. She is the first one to put up a shield and stand in front of the girls. We already see that in Season 1 Episode 2 when Bloom is attacked by the Trix. I do sometimes think Tecna is not appreciated enough and also a bit on the outside. For example, when she actually had a plan to track down the Trix in Season 2 when the girls stay at Cloud Tower, she was ignored and Bloom was even annoyed by her. Bloom also ran off and left Tecna vulnerable to being attacked which she was. Mona in Season 3 b was trying to help the girls by showing them the RV she had stored all the A things. But it was gone (Toby took it) and the girls turned on her. Mona then went to her car and was attacked. Once she was attacked the girls helped her. (The winx helped Tecna once they realized she was attacked.) However, it is not really mentioned after and is more pushed aside. Both characters are only utilized when they have a need, like creating something to help the Winx or the Liars.
Both Mona and Tecna are cool characters that are more on the outside and I really wished they were not. I want to see them connect more with the Liars or Winx. Tecna does not have the same emotional scene with the girls like Musa and Layla, Stella and Bloom, and Flora and Layla.
Diaspro as Allison Dilaurentis Better yet Mellisa Hastings
Tumblr media
I think Diaspro could be a really interessting charachter. She is a bit underutilized and I think this could have been a great enemies to allies storyline.
She has the shadyness of Alison and I think both are entertaining to watch. Their hair and clothes are both always spot on and they usually go for what they want and manipulate and control things.
Diaspro was brought up in royalty and as she said she had to act like a princess (which always comes with pressure) and therefore she deserved some reward and she goes to lengths to get that. (Using a potion from Valtor on Sky).
Similarly, Alison is somewhat Rosewood royalty. She is the Queen Bee and uses any means such as blackmail and threatening to get what she wants.
I think both of their arcs could have been better and showcase young women that are grey characters and morally ambiguous.
On the other hand, I think she would be a cool Mellisa Hastings. First of all, the connection to Bloom through Sky caused a complicated relationship between Bloom and Diaspro. Mellisa is shady af, and you never know where she stands. If she is part of the A team, associated with the A-Team, or not know anything about A but is part of the mystery. I think Diaspro would be a fun character for that. Questioning if she is on our side or not. I think this could have been a great development for her. Going from an Alison-esque character to Mellisa Hastings.

pll rewatch 1x19
you get a date, and you get a date, and everybody gets a date, oh, and spencer has a bad time (but also a date).
we start with the girls at the police station with their parents. none of the girls mentioned spencer's thing with ian in their interviews, and the parents mostly seem to believe the girls have been pranked
garrett reynolds is introduced as a former neighbour of emily, and I have no memory whether him being a neighbour is important.
like, important neighbours: emily-toby, spencer-alison. vaguely implied neighbours but it doesn't really matter: hanna-aria.
Aria: Whoever said the truth will set you free never met A. Emily: Jesus. The girls: -give Emily confused looks- Emily: It's from the Bible; Jesus said it.
Is Emily religious? The Fields do seem the most likely family of the Liars to go to church, though even then my take is that Pam tried the local churches when they first moved to Rosewood, occasionally goes/volunteers to one of them, but doesn't really gel with any of them.
Paige is such a bad liar, her saying she "had to visit her aunt. She's old." has made me doubt that she even has an aunt. She has apparently been swimming nights to avoid seeing Emily - this suggests that normally they do their outside-of-practice swims at the same time at school
Toby is so scared of Jenna that he will go spend money on a motel room just to get away from her being mad at him, and then starts suspecting she's at the motel too. ...I can't really make fun of him for this, given his entire history with Jenna
Ezra bugging Aria with a dozen questions on Jenna really annoyed me. If you are going to date your student, can you at least consider not getting information about your other students out of her? No?
Caleb is so :D :D :D now that he's dating Hanna that he forgets to put down the toilet seat in the house, leading to Ashley finding him and kicking him out. Caleb slinks off wordlessly while Hanna makes references to Ashley's own difficult youth.
Paige leaves Emily a note, which my friends initially think is an A-note, unlike me and my unnecessarily thorough memory of all Paige-related scenes. She 100% could have texted Emily, they have each other's numbers, but I enjoy that her instinct is note in locker. Huh, hold that thought for later.
The karaoke bar is called "Hungry Owl Tavern". Good name.
I like their little conversation here and that Emily for no reason offers that she was in love with Alison. I mean, once your unreciprocated crush got outed by a dickbag cop to your friends, just start telling it to your dates I guess.
Paige's response to this fun fact is "She seemed like a very dynamic person" which is an incredibly diplomatic way to describe Alison Dilaurentis. I must give her credit for this, she is not someone who is naturally tactful.
Paige is much more relaxed here, and the one upside of this season's terrible haircut is that we get to see it become more casual as she does too. Karaoke ensues after Paige goads Emily into it.
Hanna gets laaaaid after Caleb learns she went to fat camp and Hanna learns his mom walked out on him. Good for her, she does deserve to be the first liar to get laid given how much she wanted it at the beginning of this season
Enjoyed Hanna being a whiz at camp set-up and city boy Caleb being spooked at every sound in the woods.
Spencer is very cute when hopped up on caffeine talking about spy apps on her phone, and when miffed at losing Scrabble
Toby's abs are so defined they are starkly visible in the night-time, I'm scared. This is why Spencer loses her mind at seeing him in the bathroom.
Emily and Aria hang out in Emily's room not not talking about their dates, a scene I'd forgotten about. I am slightly tempted to track scene counts of the liar subsets to see how big the actual imbalance is vs fandom's perception of it.
Anyway, I do have a soft spot for Emily and Aria hanging out, they have a much quieter energy to their scenes.
Picnic time! I forgot that the karaoke and the picnic were in the same episode, let alone on sequential days.
Emily is very good in her conversation with Paige here - Paige's panic makes sense here, given everything we know about her dad, and it is a real thing that if you are known to be gay it puts people of the same gender who are close to you under suspicion, even for innocent interactions
And Emily makes an excellent choice for herself here going nah, I feel good about who I am now, I remember when I didn't and the act of pretending or hiding would make me feel bad again.
I think S1!Emily doesn't get enough credit, honestly, even at the start she's got more of a backbone than the freshman year version of her does
My unasked for opinions on how much the liars change between Alison's disappearance and the start of canon: Emily looks the same but is different personality-wise, Aria looks different but is the same personality-wise, Hanna has changed in both regards, and Spencer Hastings Will Never Change She Is Eternal.
Also eternal is Spencer's parents being dickbags, because their response to finding out their daughter is a person of interest and that their grown son-in-law macked on their 14/15-year old daughter is to go "Spencer!! How dare you not tell us!!!!" instead of "Ian! Get the fuck off our property before I sock you in the jaw!"
Ashley invites Caleb to stay permanently and asks him to call her Ashley instead of Mrs Marin - I'm not sure we ever see him do so. Caleb goes off to make a mysterious call where he says he's not helping anymore...
Best A message: A leaving a bag of ice with the message YOU'RE GETTING COLDER. Literally just knew they were getting obsessed with 214 and decided to drive Spencer nuts about it. Classic.

Author's Note: This is a PLL fanfic that I mainly started writing for myself. I'm a die hard PLL fan but, like a lot of other people, I was thoroughly disappointed with a lot of their choices so I decided to try my hand at writing what I wanted to happen in the story. I've never written fanfic, as most of my writing experience has been via Tumblr rp's but I thought I'd give this a try!
Tumblr media
September 1st, 2009. That was a night that Aria Montgomery would never forget, not for as long as she lived. That was the night that everything had changed.
It’d be silly to ever think that she could erase those memories from her brain, so she didn’t even try. Instead, she had decided to accept it–after all, what else was there to do? Things had happened–things that were never supposed to happen. Yet, the events of that September night had changed everything. As Lady Macbeth famously said, “What is done cannot be undone.”
By sunrise, the whole town of Rosewood knew that blonde bombshell queen bee Alison DiLaurentis was missing and nothing would ever be the same again.
Even now, after a year had passed, Aria was still unsure about how she felt about the entire situation. As she unpacked her boxes and placed her books back in their rightful place, she thought about everything that had happened and the impact her choices had had upon everyone.
One thing was for certain–she was grateful to be back in her own bedroom. The warm, dark wood of her bedroom floor and bed frame were certainly much cozier than the cold, white walls she had grown accustomed to this past year. It felt good to be back at home again.
Of course, to the outside world, she’d been away on a special study abroad program in Iceland this past year, an incredible opportunity that had happened to arise in Aria’s time of need. Her little brother, Mike, had even agreed to try to keep her Facebook page updated with beautiful pictures of the stunning fjords of Reykjavik. However, the truth of Aria’s whereabouts were much more…complicated, per se, than a study abroad trip to Iceland.
She’d spent this past year locked away hiding away in Radley Medical Center, trying to repair her fragmented mental state. After September 1st, it hadn’t taken very long at all for her parents, Byron and Ella, to figure out that her best friend’s friend’s disappearance had taken a serious toll on her mental health. As soon as the “MISSING PERSON” fliers went up, Aria just about lost it. After attempting to take her own life near the end of September 2009, her parents felt as if they had no other choice but to try and get her the help that she needed.
However, in the town of Rosewood, being “mentally ill” was not acceptable, or even relatable–sure, everyone had their own struggles but you kept that quiet and to yourself. It was the “polite” thing to do. Besides, after Aria had woken up in a hospital room, realizing her attempt had been unsuccessful, she couldn’t face her friends–hell, it was nearly impossible to face her own family, especially her little brother. Therefore, it was decided: Aria would go to Radley Medical Center in order to heal, and no one would ever know. To the outside world, she’d be experiencing an incredible opportunity overseas in Iceland and none would be the wiser.
It was quite the ruse and honestly, her parents had been a little unsure about the entire thing. Sure, people who were open about their family problems were judged harshly in Rosewood but who even cared about petty scrutiny and gossip if their daughter wasn’t okay? But it was Aria that had begged her parents to keep the truth a secret, only letting the principal of Rosewood High School know what was actually going on so she could continue her studies.
Now, after nearly twelve straight months of intensive therapy and “rest,” Aria was ready to return to the real world of Rosewood and continue on with her life. Still, the night of September 1st, 2009 still haunted her–more than anyone would ever know.
In just a few weeks–and still, years from now–the town of Rosewood would be full of gossip: gossip about a particularly handsome new teacher and his apparent penchant for underage girls. Yes, by now, it’s no secret that Ezra Fitz had been taken with Aria Montgomery when they first met at the Hollis Pub the day before school started. However, what a lot of people don’t mention is how Ezra was able to manipulate his way into Aria’s life and strike when she was most vulnerable.
You’ll come to find very soon that everyone in the town of Rosewood has flaws and secrets–absolutely everyone. But some things are more forgivable than others. And what was unconditionally unforgivable was a grown man preying on the innocent young girls of Rosewood High. Ezra had zeroed in on Aria and was just waiting for the perfect opportunity to pounce.
After all, Ezra was already well aware of Aria’s own secret–well, at least one of them. You see, during his junior and senior year at Hollis, he had heard rumors about Professor Montgomery and one of his grad students. Now, Ezra didn’t usually listen to gossip–he believed himself to be above all of that. However, it had become rather difficult to simply ignore the rumors about a professor taking advantage of one of his students. Though he’d never actually had a class with Professor Montgomery, he knew of him and figured that the rumors were probably true.
Once he put two and two together–that Aria was the daughter of Bryon Montgomery–he knew that he had an in. He was aware that it was rather ironic. But this was different, he told himself. Ezra knew she was in a susceptible position–she needed guidance, someone to talk to, a shoulder to cry on. That’s what Ezra told himself and that’s what he set out to do. Truthfully, as cunning as she was, Aria never stood a chance against someone so sinister.
However, that didn’t mean that Aria didn’t have her own ammunition. Sure, her family was holding on by a thread–but the other girls had their own secrets, too. They always had. Luckily, Aria had always been incredibly observant. Though she could certainly have her moments of outspokenness, she also knew how to sit back and listen. One could learn a lot of information when they were simply listening.
Take Hanna Marin, for example. Poor little Hefty Hanna–Aria had always detested that nickname that Alison had placed upon Hanna’s head. It was cruel and unnecessary. But Alison was the queen bee and whatever she said simply…was. However, anyone with eyes could see the toll that it took on Hanna. Aria remembered that one time, during a sleepover, the girls had been enjoying chick flicks and ice cream. They had been watching Mean Girls, one of Alison’s favorites. Aria always assumed it was because she viewed herself as Regina George.
Just before the Burn Book fight scene started–arguably one of the best scenes in the film–Hanna had gotten up to go to the bathroom. Aria thought it a bit odd but continued watching and laughing along with the other girls. But the minutes continued to pass and Hanna still wasn’t back. Curious, Aria mentioned checking on Hanna and got up off the couch and headed to the bathroom, her feet padding on the hardwood floor. When she got to the bathroom door, the unmistakable sounds of retching came from the other side of the door. Aria gave a small knock on the door. “Hanna?... Are you okay?” Hanna cleared her throat and quickly said “Yeah, I’m fine. I’ll be right out.”
Sure, Aria probably should’ve said something about it–but what could she say? Hanna was clearly embarrassed, you could hear it in her voice. Wouldn’t it just make it worse to question her about it? Aria tried to tell herself that maybe Hanna’s stomach had just been acting up but deep down, she knew the truth. She knew how Alison made Hanna feel like shit about her body–honestly, it wasn’t very surprising that Hanna would attempt to find comfort in bingeing and purging. It made Aria’s heart sink but what else could she do?
As far as Spencer and Emily went, their secrets weren’t too difficult to figure out, either. Really, all you had to do was have eyes. The way Spencer so desperately wanted to be like her older sister, Melissa, was obvious to everyone. On top of that, the brains of their group suddenly seemed to become a brainless lovestruck girl whenever her sister’s skeezy boyfriend, Ian, walked into the room. He was not only her field hockey coach but, as everyone figured, most likely her future brother-in-law as well. However, no one could deny the brunette’s heart eyes whenever Ian cracked a subpar joke.
Emily was somehow even more obvious. Between the odd comments from Alison and the way you could practically feel Emily’s giddiness radiating from her every time the blonde bombshell simply spoke, it was clear to anyone with a brain that Emily was in love with Alison. Not to mention the time that Aria had accidentally overheard one of their conversations during another infamous sleepover. She’d forgotten her phone in Emily’s room and when she was approaching the doorway, she overheard the distinct sing-song sweetness of Alison’s voice. It was the voice she used whenever she really, really wanted something
“Look, Em, I’m sorry that I was so mean to you the other day in the locker room. I didn’t mean to snap at you, I just… I just don’t feel…that way. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t still kiss–but only if you want to, of course.”
Alison’s voice was sugary sweet and full of softness–god, she was such a manipulative bitch. Don’t fall for it, Em, Aria thought to herself. But then, seconds later, Aria could hear the undeniable sounds of lips locking, so she slipped back downstairs and never told another soul.
Truth be told, Aria was mildly horrified at the state of her friend group when she returned to Rosewood High. The girls hadn’t even tried to remain close to one another? The brunette realized that it was going to be a lot more difficult to get her friends back together than she initially thought.
What horrified her even more, though, was the face that she saw at the front of the classroom during first period on the very first day of junior year. It was none other than Ezra, the man boy from the bar. He looked just as equally horrified to see her face and she was certain that he’d never speak to her again. And honestly, if he were even half a decent man, he would have quit his job right then and there–but of course, “decent” was the last word anyone would use to describe Ezra Fitz.
The situation with her English teacher might’ve fully taken over Aria’s brain that night if it hadn’t been for the sirens that began to ring out around 9PM, just as Aria was about to get ready for bed. The sirens were down the street but something made Aria’s blood run cold and she followed that feeling out onto the sidewalk. Sure enough, the sirens were just a few streets over, down by the DiLaurentis house. Oh, fuck.
Alison DiLaurentis’ body was found buried under the gazebo her parents had put up the previous summer. The backyard had been under construction at the time, making it the perfect place to dispose of a body.
The day of Alison’s funeral was what finally brought all the girls back together. They sat with each other in the same pew, as if no time had ever passed. While waiting for the service to begin, the four girls realized that they’d all been getting messages from a mysterious person who signed their messages with nothing but an “A.” Was it “A” for Anonymous? It couldn’t have been “A” for Alison. After all…her body was lying in a closed casket just feet away from them.’
However, it wasn’t until the very end of the service that the girls realized how serious all of this was. Detective Wilden, a hot shot police officer, approached the girls and vowed to find out what happened the night that Alison disappeared, which sent a chill down Aria’s spine. Just as he walked away, all of the girls’ cell phones eerily rang at the same time and the threatening message stared back at them through the screen:
“I’m still here, bitches, and I know everything - A”

"Surface Tension"
At what point did they stop assuming that "A" and "Ali's killer" were the same person? That was their original theory, as well as the logic that all of their red herrings have been based on. Now they're talking about it like it's a whole new idea. I'm not just losing my mind, this show is like the Twilight Zone.
I feel like they could have eaten the candy. At least it was free.
Oh, good, more Ezria drama. The writers truly have no concept what they're doing. I fucking hate this.
I love the look at Emily we get when she moves in with Hanna.
At this point, I am getting annoyed with the Montgomeries bothering their son. It's more artificial drama that gets us nowhere, I'm tired of watching Byron be a fucking hothead, and I don't know what they expect from him. Why do parents expect more of their kids than themselves? They're demanding their teenage son be present for their stupid dinner party but they haven't been to any of the events that matter to him in months. You don't get to barge into his room like that and demand whatever you want from him. You aren't entitled to it. To be clear, no one is ever entitled to that, but definitely not a man who cheated on his wife with one of his students and then made his daughter keep that secret and willingly stuck her in a very awkward situation with The Other Woman. Byron's behavior fucked up their family relations, he made Ella move out to get some space from him because he was so conceited he thought his kids needed him around- didn't even consider that maybe the kids needed space from him, too, he thought staying in that house was going to fix all their problems, and now that they decide they're ready to "go back to normal" he's just supposed to go along with it. Important to note that they did not, at any point, take Mike to a counselor to help him process this trauma. His anger with both of them is completely justified. Sorry he isn't communicating and resolving it like a well-educated adult, that might be because he's...what, like 14 at most? And his parents couldn't communicate if the skills bit them in the ass.
Why did Ella invite Jason to dinner? Like, I thought this dinner party had something to do with the Hollis faculty. I would think you could better serve the "human companionship" angle by just inviting him to a standard family dinner.
Okay, I can't hold back on this anymore- Hanna is hella ADHD-coded. My neuroscope is reading her off the charts. I remember having come to that conclusion before but couldn't remember way. Watching her read a magazine, jump up and down on the bed, and sing to music that's playing so loud she can't even hear herself think is probably it.
Okay, Big Brain Time- was Emily into field hockey? "Boys don't play field hockey-" she's wearing a white (???) top in this flashback, I think...so it's impossible to date it...either way, if she was interested in someone who played field hockey it would be more confirmation that she's wlw. Then again, Ian was the field hockey coach. It might not be an implication of anything except that Ian chose an occupation that allowed him to get much too close to girls who are much too young- as chronophiles often do.
To be honest, I really like how respectful Emily is of the differences between herself and Hanna. Like, she doesn't shame her or try to change her or tell her it's the wrong way to study ("you can't possibly learn like that"). She just says "Well, this works for you but not for me" and makes accommodations for herself because they both deserve to be able to learn how they learn. If more people were like that, the world would be a better, safer place for some of us. She doesn't need an excuse or diagnosis to accept that someone is different from her.
For a show called "Pretty Little Liars," these characters are stupid honest sometimes. Why would Toby admit to Peter Hastings that he already told Spencer about the hockey stick?! Just say "Okay" and walk away!!! Go tell Spencer to pretend she's none the wiser! This man is officially your employer! Not to mention he's your girlfriend's dad! Ugh, this makes me want to scream. I could just tear my hear out.
The way this dinner party went really epitomizes everything I hate about Aria's storylines. Ezria and all of its related drama feels completely disconnected from everything else, and none of her family members feel like characters who are important enough to be having all of these arcs. All of Aria's character development ends up getting handed over to the satellite characters; she seems to be used more like a vehicle through which we can watch The Montgomery Family Drama. Kinda like how Bella Swan was an under-developed vehicle into the supernatural communities of Forks, Washington, only this is even more tedious and boring. Mike doesn't even sparkle.
Was Aria still planning to go public with her relationship after they got a visit from the cops? Was Ezra still expecting that? Because he seems shocked that Aria would ask him to leave, right now. I would have assumed the party was over when both the hosts left. I would at least have been asking if I should go. I definitely wouldn't have just sat there waiting to tell the Montgomeries that I, a grown-ass man, am dating their 16-year-old daughter right after they get back from picking up their son at the police station. Then again, I wouldn't be dating a 16-year-old at my age.
Really though, was finding out Mike stole Jenna's vase the only reason she decided to send them home so that her family could have some privacy to deal with this?
Caleb isn't doing anything illegal by helping people with their cell phone tech. I barely understand why it's sketchy. If he marketed himself in a more conventional way, he could call himself a freelancer, entrepreneur, cell phone technician. What his clients do with the tech is on them.
Can I put Peter Hastings in the fucking fireplace? I want to light his ass on fire.
Stoooooop it!! I don't care that Ashley Marin could give Blanche Devereaux a run for her money or that she couldn't make a good decision unless everyone else makes it for her! I don't care about this teaser romance between parents! Someone needs to tell these showrunners that just because these characters are part of the protagonists' life doesn't mean they're relevant enough for me to give a shit about their stupid fucking relationship drama! I really liked Ashley's role in the first season, if nothing else it at least added intrigue. I was invested. It became a significant aspect of the plot and broke off into scenes that characterized Hanna. This shit with Tom does none of that. From what I understand, he just left them for some unspecified length of time- he's a pretty terrible person, leaving a woman he married and a child he fathered in such dire financial straits and not even contributing to some child support, then trying to use his daughter as an excuse to be around his ex, even after he turned her away from that dinner. I don't get a sense that he has any special affection for either of them. It reads like he wants to be around Ashley because his other relationship is strained. Ashley went from being an interesting and sympathetic character to being almost intolerable to have on-screen. This woman has all the personal strength of a square of toilet paper submerged in a lake. A good decision could bite her in the ass and she still wouldn't make it.

25 Days of Emison
Day #13
Matching Christmas Sweaters
“Girls! Hurry up! Your mom is going to be home any minute,” Emily called up the stairs to her twins.
“We’re coming!” Lily yelled down to Emily.
“Come here, Wayne,” Emily said, bending down to pick up the grabby 2-year-old from where he was playing on the floor. She quickly helped him stand up and straightened out his clothes.
Alison had been having a particularly bad day at work. She was dealing with a bunch of attitude ridden teenagers who just wanted to end start their Christmas break. She had had a disgustingly long department meeting that really made her consider ripping out her own eyelashes. And a mountain of paperwork and papers to grade before the semesters end.
Emily knew immediately that she needed to do something to cheer Alison up, and she had just the plan. She had been waiting until Christmas morning for this particular surprise, but it was as good a time as any. She’d grabbed the boxes from the attic and dispersed them accordingly to the family, instructed the girls to go upstairs at once and get changed.
Emily quickly ran around the house and plugged in all the lights and the tree. She already had a fire lit in their living room and Christmas music playing all throughout the house, all waiting for Alison’s arrival.
The twins came barreling down the stairs a few moments later, looking adorable as ever. Especially with their added Santa hats.
“Good idea girls! Why didn’t I think of that?” Emily said.
“Here,” Grace said, “We grabbed the rest.”
“You two are the best,” Emily said, putting Wayne’s on.
A few seconds later, they heard the beep of a car locking.
“Come on, everyone get ready!” Emily said. Everyone getting into position in front of the fire.
“Hello?” Alison called from the front door, “Where is everyone?”
“In here, Mommy!” Lily yelled, giggling excitedly.
Alison crossed into the living room and immediately burst out into laughter.
“What’s all this?” she asked, crossing over to take a look at everyone. She first spotted Emily’s red Christmas sweater. In white embroidered letters it said “Santa Mama.” And all three kids had matching sweaters that all said “Santa Baby” on them.
“Well,” Emily said, crossing over to Alison, “we knew you weren’t having the best day at work, so we wanted to surprise you. I’ve had these for weeks.”
“This is amazing. You are amazing,” Alison said, wrapping her arms around Emily’s waist and kissing her soundly.
“Here, mommy!” Grace said, walking over and holding up another red sweater.
“Is this one mine?” Alison asked.
“Yeah!” Lily said, “Go put it on!”
Alison opened the sweater, hers said “Santa Mommy.”
“These are awesome! I’ll be right back.”
A few moments later, Alison came back all changed into her new sweater, and joined Emily and the kids on the floor where they were sitting by the fire.
“You really like it?” Emily asked, moving a chunk of hair from Alison’s face.
“Are you kidding? I love it. And you. Thank you for always doing the most ridiculous things to make me laugh,” Alison said, grabbing hold of Emily’s hand and giving it a squeeze.
“I promised you I always would,” Emily said, leaning in to give Alison a quick kiss.
“Don’t forget your hat, mommy!” Grace said.
“How could I ever?” Alison said, quickly putting on her Santa hat, officially matching the rest of the
family.
“Come on,” Emily said, reaching for her phone, “Let’s take a photo!”
She quickly leaned it up against a stack of books on their coffee table and started the timer. The whole family grouped together and put on their best smiles. This quickly became one of their all time favorite photos, and a new Christmas tradition they’d have for many, many years to come.

pll rewatch 2x20
In which I am judgy about how the show handles Maya. Unfun fact I learned from a podcast, this episode has ~3 minutes of Maya before she runs off into the night, while we spend at least 4 minutes on Aria at Holden’s tournament alone. Big meh.
The show decides to punish me for paying attention, because they have Aria discuss Spencer sleeping over for a week since the previous episode, followed by Emily emerging with the state championship swimming trophy.
Emily re-joined the team a week ago and she’s competing/the big star?
The power of Emily Fields, I guess.
Can’t believe we see none of these Sparia sleepovers, SMH.
Maya greets Emily with a gigantic sign, but magically disappears when Caleb gets arrested and the girls are discussing that. Where else does she have to go, she doesn’t even go to this school anymore.
Hanna does not know what a hotspot is and I do not think she learns what it is even by the end of the episode
OK let’s summarize the Aria plot really quick: Holden’s secret is a martial arts competition, which is a secret because he has a heart condition. Aria’s approach to this is to...follow him to his tournament and watch him compete.
Aria, you accomplished nothing by showing up here, this is very Ella-coded behaviour.
2A is like, Jason is here to be hot to Aria and be a bit of a creep who is part of the NAT club. 2B is like, Jason is here to be bros to Spencer, please forget any mention of us saying he was part of NAT, Spencer feels no need to bring that up.
It’s very in-character of Spencer, who will want to believe in her family always, and well, Jason is family.
Aria has a weird little convo with Jonah while the liars eavesdrop - everyone looks to Spencer for the money, but her bank account has been locked since they all got arrested in the midseason finale
Maya shows up to the swim team party prep very sad because her parents found a joint in some boxes and want to send her off to True North again. Maya’s offscreen parents suck, they have fallen very far from the hippies who have tattoos for their wedding rings.
While I do find it cute that Ashley and Hanna are so down to host a party for Emily’s team, at least until they get dragged into the police station, again I have questions about the timeline. Emily was off the team till a week ago, why is she hosting. Do they not normally have celebration parties and this is Emily’s desparate attempt to feel like part of the team, and that is why Ashley is icing store-bought cookies like a knockoff Pam Fields
JK JK Pam Fields does not want a bunch of teenagers in her house, she would not do this.
Wilden, as the one cop in Rosewood who likes digging for evidence, no matter how inappropriately, has actually consulted the hospital cameras and realized the girls went into the morgue. He of course drags only Hanna and Ashley in because he likes a power play.
Spencer confronts her dad. It’s very Spencer to only confront her dad about the cheating once it ties into the mystery. We learn that the Dilaurentis’s moved away to Atlanta when Jessica was pregnant with Jason, and moved right next door when Spencer was 5 years old. That’s about ~11 years away? Weird-ass behaviour.
At the swim team party, the team is...watching a recording of the meet they just competed in? Sure.
Emily comments that Paige was like a rocket coming off the platform, and it’s Hanna who has to point out to Emily that Maya is clearly bummed out over in the corner. Good job, Hanna.
Emily is not a particularly great girlfriend in this moment, she would like to go back to the :D :D :D energy of the party
The Spanna CTRL-A scene...I love it....Hanna asks Spencer if she can hack and Spencer is like that’s what Caleb is for and you can tell this is just how Caleb is categorized in Spencer’s mind: Hanna’s bf who can hack shit for us
Anyway they figure it out, mystery 4-digit code and all, and it’s fun to me that it’s specifically Hanna and Spencer who save Caleb here.
Spencer makes a point of saying Caleb’s password is almost as complicated as her own.
Emily finds Maya smoking weed outside and I have at least two ??? comments about this scene
The first is Maya saying “No more about the teammates” -  I know there was supposed to be some kind of Maya-Paige confrontation this episode that fell through because of scheduling.
I keep trying to reverse-engineer it given Maya’s bizarre comment here and Paige’s even more bizarre comments in the next episode and coming up empty. Like, I can’t tell to what degree the bizarreness is because they are setting up plot/mystery stuff for next season, versus insufficiently replacing that scene.
In canon as it stands, is Paige even at this party? Maybe if she only heard the last bit of this patio conversation that would explain her opinion of Maya next episode lmao.
Okay, my second ??? comment is that Emily reacts to Maya lighting a joint like she walked in on Maya shooting up heroin. It’s very weird the way the show frames this as some kind of betrayal, when Emily literally smoked with Maya in the pilot + even Maya at her worst here does not appear to be the type of stoner who has it disrupting the rest of her life.
The biggest problems Maya has are her parents’ overreactions and whichever creeper’s texting her nonstop
Anyway, Maya decides to run away to SF, does the obligatory asking Emily to leave with her, Emily is not down, Maya sprints off into the night as one does from the Marin patio
In this final Emily/Maya episode, they do not even hug or kiss. Another unfun fact.
Lol when Ashley walks into the party from the station you see her visibly decide she is not in the mood for any of this teenage bullshit and that all of this is Hanna’s problem now
The sad deflated shark as Emily is calling Maya at the end of the episode....the real MVP of the Sharks to me
