—————
Almost a week had passed since [Y/N] checked up on Toby at Spencer's request to make sure he was alright while working for Jason. Spencer had also made rather a dangerous move by pawning her sister's wedding ring in order to buy Toby the truck he wanted so that he didn't have to work for Jason. Although Spencer was successful in keeping Toby away from Jason, now, she, herself, was in trouble as Melissa's ring was gone from the pawn shop and she had to replace it soon.
Overall, life had not gotten better for [Y/N] and friends, thanks to A.
The school day had ended and [Y/N] was at her locker, grabbing her things when she was called by Ella Montgomery.
"You're not in trouble, honey," Ella said with a chuckle when she saw [Y/N]'s wide and confused eyes.
"Uh, okay," [Y/N] tried to smile back and shut her locker door before following Ella into her classroom.
"I wanted to ask you for a favor," Ella spoke, grabbing a set of keys from her desk. "Mike forgot his keys at home today and I didn't get a chance to give it to him. Aria's already left for the day and I didn't know who else to ask. Would you be able to give this to Mike on your way home? He's usually at the basketball court at the park around this time."
"Sure, Mrs. Montgomery," [Y/N] answered, taking the keys from Ella's hand.
Her parents had been friends with Aria's for a long time now as her parents both taught at Hollis along with Byron Montgomery. Although she wasn't close to Mike, she enjoyed being around him at get-togethers as he was like the little brother she wished she had. So, she didn't mind this little task.
"Thank you," Ella smiled appreciatively. "I would do it, myself, but I've got a faculty meeting to run to."
"It's okay," replied [Y/N]. "Have a good rest of your day, Mrs. Montgomery."
"You too, [Y/N]," Ella said back and [Y/N] waved goodbye, walking out of the classroom.
The school hallways were empty as [Y/N] walked out of the building. She reached the parking lot and noticed some students still hanging around by their cars, laughing and chatting. She made her way towards her car and got in the driver's seat, placing her backpack on the empty seat next to her. She put Mike's keys in one of the cupholders before starting the vehicle and pulling out of the school parking lot.
It didn't take too long before she reached the Rosewood park and found a nice spot in the shade to park her car. She grabbed her backpack and Mike's keys before going in search of him towards the basketball court.
It was a bright and sunny day, and the park was a little crowded for her liking. Ignoring the occasional, curious gazes thrown her way, [Y/N] looked around for Mike. She tried calling his cellphone a few times, but it kept going to voicemail.
A few seconds later, she spotted a young boy sitting on a bench with his back facing her. It looked a lot like Aria's brother and she walked towards him, calling out Mike's name.
When the boy turned around, however, [Y/N] paused in her steps as he was definitely not Mike.
"Sorry, I thought you were someone else," she apologized, feeling awkward, and the stranger shrugged before turning to face forward again.
[Y/N] sighed and turned in the opposite direction to go on the hunt for Mike again when she spotted a familiar face. And, this time, there was no mistake.
Not too far from her stood Jason DiLaurentis. He was wearing grey basketball shorts and his upper body was bare, and [Y/N] tried really hard to not let her eyes wander down to his toned chest and abs. He was holding a basketball in his hands and the frown between his brows disappeared when her eyes met his. He gave her a small smile and a wave. She returned the gesture and slowly walked towards him. He met her halfway and the two stopped in front of each other.
"Hey, [Y/N], I thought it was you," Jason spoke first.
"Yeah, it's me," she chuckled, mentally face-palming at how awkward she sounded. "I'm looking for Aria's brother, Mike. Have you seen him here today?"
"No, sorry," he shook his head. "He give Aria the slip?"
"Something like that," [Y/N] replied. "Mrs. Montgomery asked me to give Mike his keys but I can't find him."
"Why did Aria's mom ask you?" Jason asked, confused.
"She meant to ask Aria but she already left," [Y/N] answered, receiving a nod in response.
"I was always lying about where I was when I was his age," Jason commented with a small smile.
"Yeah?" [Y/N] asked with a smile of her own.
"Yeah," he nodded. "I don't remember a lot about that time actually. Most of what I do remember, I wish I could forget, you know?"
Both of their smiles dropped by the end of Jason's sentence and [Y/N] dropped her gaze to the ground. She remembered all too well about the party boy Jason used to be.
"Do you know what I do remember?" Jason asked and [Y/N] looked at him again. "Your smile."
[Y/N] stared at him for what seemed like a full minute before letting out a short, surprised laugh, "My smile?"
"Yes, your smile," he repeated. "Whenever we came across each other in the past and even now, your smile and greetings have always been genuine. That meant- means a lot to me."
"I- I'm glad," she answered, feeling a little flattered by his words and Jason cleared his throat, praying he didn't make her uncomfortable.
"Do you want me to find Mike and give him the keys?" he asked, changing the subject.
"Oh, it's okay," she replied. "I'll just drop it with Aria. But, thanks."
"Yeah. And, uh, I should get back," he stated hesitantly, tilting his head in the direction where his buddies were waiting for him.
"Of course," [Y/N] nodded in understanding. "Enjoy your evening."
"You too," he said and was about to turn around when he remembered something else that concerned [Y/N].
Just as [Y/N] turned to leave, he called her name and she faced him.
"What's wrong?" she asked in concern when she noticed his reluctant posture.
"Uh, it's about the other day when you stopped by," he spoke quietly, fiddling with the basketball in his hand.
"Oh, what about it?" she asked curiously. She had an idea of what he wanted to talk to her about.
"The gauzes that you saw," he said, finally meeting her eyes. "They really were mine; renovating the house comes with little accidents."
"I- I figured," she replied. She felt a bit guilty, because initially her mind did entertain the thought that Jason was helping Ian, thanks to Spencer's suspicions. Then, she had pushed that idea out of her mind, because she didn't believe that Jason would want to help a man, who was accused of murdering his sister. "And, you don't have to explain yourself to me, Jason."
"I- I don't want you to be afraid of me," he said and her eyes softened at his words.
"I'm not afraid of you," she said back and saw relief fill his green eyes.
"You mean it?" he still asked and she said reassuringly, "of course."
"Alright... so, I'll see you around?" she asked, smiling.
"See you around," he confirmed and the two shared smiles one more time that conveyed more than words could at the moment.
Later that night as [Y/N] lay in her bed, staring at the ceiling, a permanent smile was etched on her face. Her mind continued to replay her conversation with Jason and she felt a little overwhelmed with how much she liked him.
Initially, she didn't think Jason looked at her as anything other than his little sister's best friend. But, the more she interacted with him, the more she felt that her feelings were reciprocated.
She hoped that she was not wrong as she slowly succumbed to sleep.

Secrets and Liars
Chapter One
----
One Year Later
There's something about being back in Rosewood after a summer away. I close my eyes and breathe in the fresh August air, letting my hand catch the wind out the window of Elio's backseat.
He's a sophomore in college this year. He doesn't talk about Jason much, I don't ask. None one in my family does. The topic of Alison never got any easier, I liked to avoid her all altogether. It's easier that way; if I pretend she never existed it doesn't feel like I'm missing anything in my life. Aches come and go when a memory forces itself to the front of my mind, but ignoring them has become easier.
I started avoiding the girls after starting therapy, it wasn't hard though, Aria packed up and moved to Iceland, Hannah started hanging out with Mona Vanderwaal, Spencer threw herself into whatever school work she could, and Emily focussed solely on the Sharks.
It hurt being around them, but I always tried to keep myself updated on what they were doing. It might be creepy, or not, depending on the context, but seeing them all, especially together would pull on that missing piece. I just know it would.
I wrote a book, something light and coming of age. It was kind of reality, though, all the characters were based on real people, the only difference being everything went right that summer and no one went missing. I published it under a pseudo name, knowing if any of the girls found out they'd probably never forgive me.
We pull in front of our house, I avoid the one to the right of it, keeping my eyes focused on ours,
"It's gonna be okay kid," Romeo rubs my arm.
I shove him away, scoffing, "I'm not a kid."
He laughs slightly. Mom and Dad park their car next to Elio's. They get out at the same time and speak with Elio for a little, probably about college again. I wonder if they're talking about him, I don't have the guts to ask. Even though it's him, my home, I just can't.
"Come on kid," Romeo kicks my leg, I glare at him, then a large smile spreads across my face and he starts running toward our house. I follow after him, knowing I'm not going to be fast enough, he's a track star; it's impossible to catch him.
----
I wake up early, I have been for a year; it's almost second nature now. I haven't told anyone, I'm pretty sure they know, at least Romeo or Elio, but they haven't said anything, and for that, I'm grateful.
I open my window, watching his window, missing the nights we'd sit here, across from each other in our own bedrooms, testing. My heart compresses as Ali's image flashes through my mind. I open the window, appreciating the slight breeze of summer.
It was a night like this just a year ago, when I was in Ali's room, watching her strut in her new dresses, gosh she loved showing off. I always admired that about her, and sometimes, I thought even Jason was jealous of the way she was able to be.
Last summer wasn't his best summer, he was pretty much a wreck that whole year, and he was only a senior in high school. I saw less and less of him, it'd felt almost like he'd been avoiding me. I shake my head, not wanting to think about it anymore.
--
Romeo starts his first year at Hollis this year, but he asks if I want him to drive me to school anyway. I tell him, no, I can drive myself. Elio goes to Hollis, I don't know if Jason still goes there. Every morning I read our last conversation over and over again until I feel like I can ace the day.
I don't look at mine and Ali's. I hate thinking about how I left things that night, with her and the girls. I should've just apologized, I never should have-ugh, I grab my head feeling a headache coming on.
--
Aria's back, I see her walking in with Emily. I keep my distance, though I notice she's missing her pink hair. I wonder how she's been, how they've all been.
I ignore the stares, you'd think by now people would cut you some slack. I curled my hair this morning and brushed it out to look somewhat presentable, but their eyes make me think I should have just stayed home.
My first class is English with Mr. Fitz. He's new, I've never heard his name before. I head to my locker first, running a hand over the cool metal, remembering Ali's reaction on the first day of school: confident, determined, and dominating. She was a sight for sore eyes. Jason had cornered us during lunch at her locker, Elio was right behind him talking to Ian.
He towered over her, messing with her hair and asking lame questions that had lame answers. Like I said, he wasn't himself that year. He was smoking, a lot more than usual. I kept telling him to stop, kept warning him he'd do something reckless. I don't think I ever got through to him.
I sometimes wonder if I should have done more, tried to reach out, maybe told someone.
Whatever.
I shake my head and push open the classroom door, immediately I catch four eyes, then five, "excuse me," I say to Mona, scooting past her and into the only open seat left, the one to the left of Aria.
I pull open my phone to pretend like I'm texting someone when in reality I'm again, re-reading old messages, this time from Melissa Hastings. She'd been threatening me–well Alison. Of course, I knew why, but at the same time, it wasn't really any of my business. At least that's what I'd felt at the time, but maybe I didn't make the best decisions back then. There are still so many I regret.
Blocked ID
I’m so DONE. Tell that Aug/31/09 BITCH to get her own 12:36 am BOYFRIEND. She needs to leave him Aug/31/09 alone or she's going 6:30 pm to regret everything. I swear to fucking Sept/1/09 god, I'm going to 11:01 am kill her.
She messaged me that that week from a blocked ID, but I knew it was her, and I knew she was talking about Alison because Ali had written it down in her diary... though I only found it that night after I'd left Spencer's barn, when it was too late—but I didn't tell the cops that.
--
The door to the classroom opens and the bell rings, knocking me back into reality. The new English teacher, Mr. Fitz, sets his things on the desk, turns around to write his name on the chalkboard, then turns to face the class.
His face drops almost instantly, "holy crap." The class follows his gaze, where we all find Aria, mouth agape, eyes wide.
Something happened, and I don't really think I want to know any more than the look they shared just now has told me. Though, I could be wrong.
No, I'm never wrong.

“ You can't leave. ”
characters: jason di laurentis x reader
cw: after the dollhouse, slurs, tension building, no smut but sexual thoughts.
word count: 1,9k || not proof-read sorry if there's grammatical errors.
You're finally able to escape Rosewood after Cece's been arrested, even though you love your best friends you just can't stay in this shit town any longer, plus you fear someone will discover what the girls and you did to Wilden even if your nightmare of a stalker is behind jail bars.
Your suitcase was closed and you were heading to the Brew, wanting a coffee before leaving. You did not warn your friends, goodbyes always made you feel awkward and you didn't want this to happen.
“ Hello Sabrina. An americano to-go, please. you ask with a sligh smile, searching your purse for your credit card.
— Sure. It'll be ready in a minute, five dollars please. ”
The blonde who seem pretty dazed smiled politely and you paid for your cup, thanking her before heading towards a seat to wait for it. Emily had her night-off and you knew she spent time with Ali. You were scrolling on your phone when a masculine voice raised near the doors.
“A latte please. Thank you, i'll be near the bookshelves.”
The man spoke and you were trying everything you could to stay focused on the tiny screen, half-reading an article about the dollhouse. It was literal bullshit and you scoffed at a line saying you had as much food and water as you needed everyday.
“Oh, hi ! What're you doing here? he spoke softly and you jumped on your seat in surprise.
— Jason! you smile at him even if you were surprised he talked to you, you were never really close. Well i'm having a cup before heading to the airport. I uh.. Have to visit my cousin. ”
You lied, trying to sound steady and the man raised an eyebrow with a curious expression on his face, bit let it go and instead raised his hand when he saw the server searching for both of you. He thanked her with a polite grin and turned to you with your two cups in hands.
“ Can I walk with you? he proposes before explainging himself. I wanted to talk to you, about.. Where you were, mostly who trapped you. he confessed and you roll your eyes but accept.
— Yeah, c'mon. I don't want to miss my plane.”
You agree and head back to your car, followed by the sunkissed-skin man. You would lie to say he isn't hot, but since he's your best-friend's brother it's totally out of question, so you never really paid attention to his shining cornflower colored eyes, or the way a strand of hair fell onto his forehead whenever he leans to talk to someone. Until tonight, tho. You couldn't tell if it was the fact that you were leaving this crappy town or something bigger but as you walked over to the engine, you couldn't help but gaze at him subtily, which he noticed but didn't say anything about, clearly not bothered. If he was honest to himself, he had this crush on you since the first day but didn't act on it because even if his little sister was a brat, he didn't want to fight with her once more.
“ I'm sorry for what Cece did to you. he finally states with a solemn tone. I can't believe she is Charles and everything. It's so–
— Weird. you cut him, agreeing with a nod. You don't have to apologize for her. She won't ever hurt me, or any of us again.
— I know but, I saw some pictures and tapes and can't get them out of my mind ever since. he sighs, eyeing you and his voice softens. Are you okay? I mean, do you need someone to talk?
— I am okay Jason. you lie and he didn't believe it. I mean, I will be, someday. you then admit before shaking your head. Actually, I don't want to talk about it, but I could use some help for my luggages at the airport? you try, this week had you exhausted and he seems to be genuine.
— Yeah. he coughs then offers. Sure, I can drive if you'd like? I won't crash your car.
— Course, go on. you throw him the keys and get to the passenger's seat before securing yourself. Don't you have somewhere else to be or are you staying because of Ali? you ask, trying to not let awkard silence take place.
— It's more my dad than Ali. He thinks I should spend more time with her but I.. he hesitates. I'm not sure if I want to. It's Alison.
— Yeah. you nod. She's intense. you shiver at your words, you used the same about Cece not long ago. But hey, do what the hell you want, she's not gonna broke if you live your life, Jason. you finally advise with a compassionate smile.
— I will think about it, kiddo. he smirks, still driving at a normal pace.
— Don't call me that grandpa, and hit the pedal. rolling your eyes, you mimick a yawn. I'm gonna miss my plane! ”
At your command, the car sped up a little and you smile, your eyes focused on the road. For a while, your wonder where you're really gonna go. With the money you earned you have lots of options and starts picturing yourself in different places of the world. The moon has now rise and the radio plays one of your favorite song so you hum to it. Jason looks at you playfully, wondering why you never did look at him the way he did. His eyes go back to the road and he clears his throat.
“So, where does your cousin live? he asks, eyebrows frowned but still wearing that smirk.
— Oh.. Uh. you search your mind as fast as you can for your first destination. California. Yeah, that's it. In California.
— Stop lying to me. he scoffs, shaking his head in disbelief. Alison didn't tell me you were going somewhere and I know she would be pissed. ”
You don't answer and shrug. He laughs a little and you wonder if he's gonna tell your friends? After all, you don't know him very well, he could. You turn your face to look at him and the lights are reflecting on his nose bridge, he's so handsome that you forget to breathe for a second. Putting this thought in another drawer of your mind, you finally open your mouth, but what comes out you didn't expect.
“ Alright, i'm leaving, okay? I can't be in my room and see all of these stupid shit your sister did to me! you snap and the anger you didn't knew you had in you unleashes. I can't fucking look at myself in a mirror, my body's disgusting, filled with scars your fucking sister did to me! you were ready to keep going but he raises a steady hand.
— Calm down sweetheart, because you're not going anywhere in this state of mind. while speaking he goes to the next exit of the road and starts to take it the other way, your eyes widened and you were ready to protestate but he didn't let you the time. In fact, you're not going anywhere. We're gonna eat dinner because i'm starving and you will talk to me, then we'll talk about leaving.
— What the heck is wrong with you? the anger didn't leave your body but tripled. Who do you think you are to take these decisions? I'm not one of your sisters! you roll your eyes.
— I know you're not. he sighs, defeated. I would let them go if they wanted. But you. he points at you. Are not leaving whilst you're so fragile.
— I am not ! That's it, Jason stop the fucking car and go. he scoffs but continues to drive into the city. I'm serious! you didn't know if you could be more tense than this right now, and these stupid lights didn't help.
— I'm not parking until we're at my appartment. I told you, we will have dinner and talk.
— But–
— I don't care ! his nostrils widened as he raised his voice in the habitacle. It wasn't planned. You can't go. his tone went down a bit, but you could still feel something in it that you couldn't quite place.
— But why? Are you working with Cece or something? you questioned with a suspicious tone and he burst out laughing. That's not funny! Jason i'm scared ! ”
You finally admit, slowly backing further from him and that's when he choses to stop the car on the side, looking in your eyes. One of his eyebrows raise and he pouts as you were grapping the handle to go out of your own car.
“ You're scared of me? concern fills his voice and you stop. That's not.. I don't work with this bitch. I just.. he stops for a second and gulps. I don't want you gone because I think we'd miss out on something.”
Jason's gaze locks into yours and you're speachless for a moment, but not able to look anywhere else. He unlocks his seatbelt without looking away, lost in your broken soul. Leaning closer, he puts a hand on your right cheek and you can't help but dive into the contact.
“ But.. Jason it's.. What if it upsets them? you stutter, refering to his sisters, any resistance you had was shattered into pieces the moment he rubbed your cheek with his thumb.
— I don't really care.. You said you were leaving, aren't you? he asks, his lips a lot closer to your ear sending shivers down your spine and before you could try to answer, he murmurs. I could come with you.. Could take you in so many countries.. ”
The double-meaning of his words has your thighs clenching and you look up, leaning closer to his lips. The feeling of his breath against your skin could make you lose it but you tried to keep your cool, even though you were as hot as magma. He's the one who breaks the last bits of space between you two, crashing his lips against yours, earning a soft sigh from you. For a moment it's like time has stopped and you dive into the kiss, your hands searching his chest with hunger. His tongue finally makes its way to yours and it's like fireworks are exploding in your head, you feel dizzy with his hands exploring your thighs. Panting, you break the kiss slowly bit rest your head against his.
“ Take me to your place. you ask and he raise an eyebrow with a hopeful grin. Please, take me back. you plead, a hundred percent sure about yourself.
— Fuck.. he sighs with relief and doesn't waste anytime, driving at a fast speed, your hunger-filled eyes still fixated on him. Don't look at me like this, sweetheart.”
You giggle but don't stop –can't stop– and you swore you've seen his jaw clench. His free hand goes up on your thigh, squeezing it softly. When he parks again after the three longest minutes of your existence, you hurry to go out of the car and he does the same, taking your hand when you're on the sidewalk, driving you inside his building, eager to let all this years of lust out on you...

If anyone is interested, I’ve made a Pretty Little Liars fanfic about how the series would unfold if the Liars had made different choices/put in alternate scenarios throughout the show. What new bonds will form? What new betrayals will arise? And most importantly, what new secrets will be uncovered? Because Rosewood was far from the picture-perfect town it claimed to be, and everyone’s got a life no one knows about.
Warning: I hate Ezria, and Ezra’s gonna get bashed, as he should. He’s also gonna be a menace. That is all.

Never Meant
Anon, I’m sorry this is so late but this one is for you!
Ship- Jason DiLaurentis x Reader
I’m afraid you were right, I’ve always been self-involved. I never meant to hurt anyone; every word I say feels wrong.
I’m afraid they were wrong; hell is not a place at all. It’s realizing that I’m truly alone at some point; ‘I’m sorry’ isn’t enough.
With the things Jason had done, he wasn’t expecting people to be forgiving straight away. He wished that he didn’t do all these things and that he wouldn’t be hated by the people he loved but at this point, there was nothing else he could do. The girl he loved couldn’t stand to look at him. (Y/N) was the stone that broke the camel’s back and when she broke up with him, he realised all of his wrong-doings. He came to realise how self-involved he could be and how much his words could hurt people without him realising it. It reached the point where his constant apologies wouldn’t work.
I never meant to hurt anyone.
It’s getting bad again; I don’t know the person I’ve become. I never meant to hurt anyone, treading water with my stomach in knots.
Jason did try to get (Y/N) back after their breakup. His stomach was completely knotted and he felt as if he was trying to tread water, but he only ended up drowning. She completely refused him and it forced him to look in the mirror at the man he had become. He absolutely hated the person he had become. He didn’t want to hurt anyone but his actions had even more severe consequences than he ever expected, and now he felt worse than ever.
It’s getting bad again. God, I’m starting to lose my head. Biting my nails to the skin, at some point you’ve gotta stop letting me in.
I always end up hurting everyone, always end up hurting everyone.
I never meant to hurt anyone.
Jason was a mess. His nails were all bitten down to the cuticle, his head was screaming and his body was slowly getting ready to give up. Even though he wanted nothing more than for his girlfriend and his friends to just come back to him, he was thankful that they weren’t there. He was in too much of a bad place for them to feel safe around him; he didn’t feel safe around himself.
He never wanted to hurt anybody but he always ended up doing so. No matter how hard he tried not to, something always went wrong and the people around him would leave because he had damaged them too much. Now, they had reached the breaking point. He couldn’t hurt them anymore.

—————
A week later, [Y/N] came to an empty home from school. After grabbing a snack, she decided to do some reading before starting her homework.
Just as she finished up a chapter, her phone rang from next to her on her bed. When she saw the caller was Spencer, she frowned in worry. Placing the bookmark on the recent page, she closed the book before answering her phone.
"Hey, Spence," she greeted, placing her book on the nightstand before sitting up on the bed again. "Everything okay?"
"Hey, [y/n/n]. Yeah, everything's fine!" Spencer answered rather enthusiastically, which made [Y/N]'s brows furrow.
"Alright, Spence, spill," she said in a playful stern voice and heard Spencer sigh on the other end.
"I may have called you to ask a favor," the brunette answered slowly.
"Sure, what is it?" asked [Y/N].
"Toby's working for Jason and I'm really worried," Spencer explained. "Can you check on him for me, please?"
"Wait, since when did Toby start working for Jason?" [Y/N] questioned, surprised.
"Since this afternoon," Spencer replied.
"You don't sound too happy about it," [Y/N] said.
"How can I be?" Spencer sighed. "For all we know, Jason could be hiding Ian, protecting him, in that creepy house."
"Spence," [Y/N] sighed this time. "I still don't think Jason would want to help his sister's murderer."
"Then, how do you explain the shadow I saw in his house yesterday?" Spencer challenged. "[y/n/n], I was right outside talking to him when I saw someone move upstairs. And, he told me he lived alone. He was clearly lying."
[Y/N] remained silent, processing Spencer's words. She still didn't believe Jason could be helping Ian hide.
However, she did find Jason's sudden return to Rosewood pretty strange. It was true that he didn't owe anyone explanation; yet, his cold demeanor towards her friends confused her because she had thought he had changed after working on Ali's memorial with them.
"Hello? Earth to [y/n/n]?" Spencer interrupted her from her thoughts.
"Sorry, I'm here," [Y/N] replied, shaking her head, hoping to remove her suspicious thoughts regarding Jason. "But, yeah, I'll go check on him."
"Thanks so much, [y/n/n], I owe you one," Spencer breathed out.
"No problem," smiled [Y/N]. "But, I have to ask you something."
"Sure," Spencer replied.
"You literally live right next door to Jason," [Y/N] spoke. "Why not just peak and make sure Toby's okay?"
"I tried," Spencer sighed out. "But, I couldn't see anything."
"It's okay," [Y/N] chuckled. "Alright, I'll check on your defenseless boyfriend and update you soon."
"You're very funny, you know that?" Spencer deadpanned.
"Sorry, I just had to," [Y/N] giggled. "Don't worry too much, alright? I'm sure Toby's okay."
"I'll try," Spencer replied. "Thanks again, [y/n/n]."
"Of course, talk to you later," [Y/N] answered and the two said their goodbyes before hanging up.
…
Once [Y/N] got near the DiLaurentis house, she noticed a shirtless and sweaty Toby first, who seemed to be hard at work with a shovel in his hands. With another few steps, she noticed Jason who was dressed in a tight blue t-shirt and faded denim jeans as he placed some heavy bags in a wheelbarrow.
She took a deep breath in to calm her racing heart as she walked closer to the two men. Her steps must've been quiet because neither Toby nor Jason took notice of her, lost in their work.
"Hello," she greeted, causing the two men to look up at her in surprise.
"Hello, [Y/N]," Jason greeted her back with a smile, standing straight as Toby did the same.
"Hey, [y/n/n], what are you doing here?" Toby asked, resting his hands on top of the shovel.
"A little birdie told me that you got a job so I figured I'd stop by and say congratulations," she replied, hoping her breathy voice didn't give away how nervous she was -- especially with Jason's gaze on her.
"Is that little birdie's name Spencer?" Toby asked, smiling mischievously.
"Of course, not," [Y/N] said, a little too fast for her liking. "Haven't you heard? My friends and I are spending some time apart. Doctor's orders."
"I just saw you guys together recently," Jason replied before Toby could and [Y/N] looked at him. She knew he was talking about the time he caught the girls sneaking out at night a couple of days ago.
[Y/N] looked back at Toby, who had a Cheshire cat grin on his face.
"I wonder if that was before or after the doctor's orders," he commented.
"It- it was before," [Y/N] replied slowly and shifted to look at Jason when she noticed Toby didn't believe her words.
"It's alright, I won't tell anyone," Jason chuckled, holding up his hands. A few moments later, he cleared his throat before asking, "I'm gonna grab a drink. Do you guys want something?"
"I'm okay," Toby replied just as [Y/N] said, "No, thank you."
Jason gave her a smile in return before turning to walk inside the house.
"Alright, [y/n/n], what are you really doing here?" Toby asked quietly once Jason had disappeared inside the house.
[Y/N] sighed and walked closer to Toby, glancing at the closed door of the DiLaurentis house once.
"Spencer sent me," she admitted, making sure to keep her voice as quiet as Toby.
"I had a feeling," Toby sighed.
"She's really worried," [Y/N] said.
"Why is she so scared about me working for Jason?" Toby asked in genuine confusion. "I mean, he's been nothing but nice to me so far."
"She thinks he's hiding Ian," [Y/N] whispered, taking another glance at the shut door.
"That's insane!" Toby said a little loudly when [Y/N] shushed him.
"I don't know what goes through your girlfriend's brain," [Y/N] shrugged playfully.
"What do you think?" Toby asked her suddenly.
"Sorry?" [Y/N] frowned.
"Do you think Jason's suspicious too?" Toby questioned her and [Y/N] dropped her gaze from his for a moment.
"He hasn't really given me a reason to be suspicious about him so far," she finally said, looking up at Toby, who nodded at her in understanding.
Before Toby could reply to her, Jason walked out of the house, carrying out a trash bag with him.
"I would invite you guys in but the place is kind of crazy," he said once he was closer to Toby and [Y/N].
He threw the bag to the side when it opened and several bloodied gauze fell out of it.
[Y/N] stiffened in her spot and her eyes widened at the sight. She looked at Toby, who looked at her, concerned. She had a feeling Toby might've been reconsidering their conversation and to be honest, so was she.
"Uh, I cut myself," Jason explained with an awkward chuckle, rubbing his palms in his jeans.
"Hope you're okay now," [Y/N] said meekly once she was able to get some words out.
"Yeah, it was just a small cut," Jason replied and [Y/N] nodded.
"Well, I should get going now," she said, slowly backing out of the DiLaurentis yard. "It was nice seeing you two. Good night."
"Good night, [Y/N]," Jason answered.
"Thanks for stopping by, [y/n/n]," Toby told her with a smile. "Text me when you get home, okay?"
"Will do," [Y/N] smiled back at him and gave one last wave to Jason before turning around and making her way towards her home.
While walking, she sent a quick text to Spencer, letting the latter know that Toby was okay. She decided to keep the suspicious-bloodied-gauze from Jason's trash to herself as she knew sharing this with Spencer would make her friend go on a dangerous hunt to know what was up with Jason.

Secrets and Liars
Chapter Three
----
One Year Ago
"Hey, mind if I use your laptop?" Ali hopped on my bed.
"For what?" I walk around the room, picking up leftover clothes from our earlier fashion show.
"I just have a burning question, and I need to know this answer." She grinned and tilted her head, that little twinkle of mischief she always had in her eyes ever present.
I shrug, "Sure whatever, hey I'm gonna go to the bathroom real quick, can we pick this up when I get back?"
"Yeah," she nods, watching me head out the door, "of course."
I came back a few minutes later to her spinning in my desk chair, "You know what's funny?" She sighed, a content smile floating on her face and she tilted it back to look up at me.
"What?" I had raised an eyebrow as I moved to sit criss-cross on the edge of my bed, in front of her.
"Even when you delete things, they're never completely gone."
My heart dropped in that moment. She couldn't know. There's no way she could have known. But she did know, and she had already sent the proof to herself.
"You know, I didn't think you had it in you," she hummed, "Kitty Kat."
I narrowed my eyes at the nickname. Jason called me it endearingly, but coming from Alison's lips, it always sounded like a mockery, something made to knock me down a peg.
"What are you talking–"
"Oh, don't act dumb," she half scoffed, half-laughed, "honestly, I'm kind of proud. To think, all this time I thought you were the most innocent out of the girls," She made a face and shrugged, "Well, you were competing with Hannah, eh."
"Please don't tell anyone," I pleaded, eyes watering.
She stood up then, walked over to me, and wiped my tears, "Oh, don't cry sweety," she'd pouted, "I'm not going to say anything. We're friends, we share secrets; we keep secrets." She'd said something similar to that the night of her disappearance. I remember because my heart had dropped. I'd thought she was going to tell the other girls what I'd done.
"You're really not going to say anything?"
She had scoffed again, "Why should I?" Was her only response, "Now let's clean these clothes up before your mom has a cow..." she'd winced, "too soon?"
Present Time
"Hey," Spencer calls, "you going home?"
"Sorry, I'm not."
"That's fine," she nods, "but...do you think I could come with you. I don't really feel like being home right now either."
I let out a breath, "Fine, but only if you promise to be quiet."
"Promise," she salutes, jumping in the car, "so where are we going?"
I glance at her and she nods, tight-lipped, "Right shutting up now."
I almost laugh, Alison would have, she would also have a snarky quip leaving her mouth the second it popped into her brain. We burn rubber with the windows down until we hit Brookhaven.
"Have you ever been here?"
Spencer shakes her head, pressing her lips together again, "can't say I have."
I nod, "Me neither." But Ali did, and I don't know why I don't say that part out loud, but I choose to keep it to myself. I don't know what I'm doing here, don't know why I even let Spencer come along, but we're here so, "wanna walk around?"
"Why not?" I park near a playground, and kids run back and forth between us, we watch them for a while, then take to walking on the sidewalk.
"It's warm today," she hums, kicking a rock in front of her.
"Yep," I reply, blocking my head from the son, "let's go in here," I turn into a bookstore.
"It's cozy," she smiles.
"It's empty," I frown, running a hand along a shelf of books, "where's the owner?"
"Maybe they're not open?"
"Maybe they should have locked their doors." I slide behind the desk, running my hand over the computer's keyboard. A light flicks on, asking for a password.
"Katherine!" Spencer shrieks, "What are you doing?" She turns her head, making sure we're really alone."
"Nothing," I frown, what would an old librarian keep as a password? Ugh, whatever, I give up.
I turn and bounce behind the desk again, next to Spencer, "what were you doing?"
I stare at her, "I told you, nothing."
"That didn't look like nothing."
"I was bored," I shrug, "what were you looking at?"
She eyes me for a little longer, then shakes her head, finally dropping the topic, "Nothing, just the log."
I run a hand down it, finding nothing of use. "Come on, it's getting late we should head back."
"Yeah, it's almost 7:00," she says, checking her watch.
"You got a new watch," I tilt my head, eyeing it.
"Yep," she pops the p, "it was a gift."
"Right," I say, "Happy late birthday... Sorry..."
"It's fine," she throws me a small smile, "Happy late birthday to you too.."
We head back to the car, making minimal small talk. I think I know now why I let Spencer come along.
When we get in the car, I start it but leave it in the park for a little. "Katherine?" She frowns, "what's wrong? Why aren't we moving?"
I sigh, resting my head on the steering wheel, "Spencer, I need to tell you something." I pull out the note from my pocket, but I don't hand it to her. No one can know–can even suspect it was me who posted those pictures.
But I don't need to, she knows, of course she does. She's Spencer. "You got a message too?"
"From A?" I ask, a slight smile digging its way onto my face.
"Do you think it's her?" She leans forward, all serious.
I snort, "honestly?" I turn my head, forward again, "there isn't anyone else I can think of. She mentioned something only she would know."
Spencer seems to take this into consideration. "So–what? She's messing with us?"
I shake my head, "I don't know, it's Ali we're talking about. All she ever did was mess around. Remember that Halloween?" Since she disappeared, everything that year seems to be referred to as "that" thing. Even if they weren't there, everyone seems to still know what I'm talking about. It doesn't even feel weird anymore.
--
I make a right, turning down mine and Spencer's street. The flashing blue and red lights startled us, we had music blasting and the windows up so we couldn't hear anything.
Now though, the music is lowered completely. We look at each other in silence. I pull into my driveway and we both step out. "Hey look," Spencer says, "there's Aria, we should go ask her what's going on."
"You go," I nod, wrapping my arms around myself as a shiver goes down my spine. There are cops and reporters and on-lookers/bystanders, nosy neighbors. I hate it.
It feels like that night.
Reluctantly, I walk toward Spencer and Aria. I don't have to say anything, my face says it all, "she doesn't know," Spencer shakes her head, "Emily's over there in the front."
"I heard they took Hannah into the station today," Aria offers.
Spencer's eyes widen, worry overcomes her, "you don't think she'd ever talk about–"
"–The Jenna Thing?" Hannah spawns beside me, keeping her eyes on the scene in front of us, "We made a promise."
"That's what keeps us close," I repeat her words. Then shiver again, it's almost like she's still here...

Merry Marry - Jason DiLaurentis
An Advent Calendar of Fics!
Pairing: Jason DiLaurentis x Reader Synopsis: The reader and Jason’s first Christmas together as a married couple. Word Count: 1,024
“Are you sure you’re going to be happy tomorrow? I mean, without your family,” you asked, tilting your head up to look at Jason. He positioned his pillow behind his head, and looked down at you.
“Are you kidding? I’m more excited than I’ve ever been about tomorrow because they aren’t here. Anyways, you’re my family now.” You smiled and touched his cheek, pulling him in for a sweet kiss.
“This will be our first Christmas as a married couple.”
“I know. That’s why it’s going to be so amazing.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah, I’m pulling out all the stops.” You laughed and pulled out of his arms, snuggling your pillow instead.
“Guarantee you that my present is better than yours.” Jason cocked his eyebrow and shook his head.
“Doubt it.”
“You’ll just have to wait until tomorrow morning,” you said, closing your eyes. Jason laughed and kissed your forehead. “I’m gonna kick your ass at Christmas.”
“Punk.”
The next morning, you woke up before Jason, and walked out into the living room. The tree was lit, and the sun was just beginning to rise, making it glow on the floor of your apartment. You made coffee, and the smell of it must have woken Jason up. He stumbled into the kitchen, glasses hanging off of his nose.
“Morning,” he said groggily.
“Merry Christmas.”
“Merry Christmas,” he said, wrapping his arms around your waist and kissing you. “Ready to open presents?”
“I am,” you said with a smile. You handed him his mug of coffee and walked over to the tree. You sat down on the floor, and Jason sat across from you.
“So I got you a couple of small things, too. But I’ll leave the best present for last.”
“Ooh, I did, too.” You reached under the tree and handed him a blue and white wrapped present.
“You should go first,” he said.
“Shut up.” Jason glanced up at you with a smile and you laughed. He tore open his present, and found a framed picture of the two of you on your wedding night. “I thought you could put it in your office. Every other place you go already has a picture-”
“I love it,” he said, smiling up at you. You smiled back and he kissed you. “Thank you. Now it’s your turn.” He reached under the tree and handed you a red present. You opened it and found a blue sweater that you had liked in the department store a month ago.
“You remembered.”
“I may have bought it the next day.” You laughed and held it up to yourself.
“Thanks, babe.”
“You’re welcome.” You went on opening presents, and you each got an assortment. Jason got a few new shirts, a cookbook he wanted, and a new waffle iron. You got a dress, a pair of earrings, new boots, and a guitar.
“You’re telling me you have something more to give me?” you asked, looking at him in confusion as he reached under the tree again.
“Yes, I told you I was gonna beat you at Christmas.” You snorted and he handed you the tiny box. You smiled and looked down at it.
“You know you can’t propose to someone once you’re already married to them?” He laughed and nodded.
“Yeah, I got that.” You laughed and opened the purple present. Inside you found a ring box, and inside was a thin band covered in tiny diamonds. You smiled and looked at him shock.
“Jason.”
“It goes with your wedding band,” he said, taking your hand. He slid the ring on, and it paired perfectly with the one that you already wore. “And the inside is engraved with the year.”
“I love it,” you said, cupping his cheek, pulling him into kiss you. “I love you. This is amazing.”
“Haha! I told you I would beat you.” You smiled and looked down at the sparkly ring once more. Jason was smiling, and you were sad to take that away from him. Although his gift was incredibly spectacular, you knew yours was better.
“Okay. I have one more thing to give you.”
“Okay.” You reached under the tree and handed him the green present. It wasn’t much bigger than the box he just gave you for the ring, and he looked down at it in confusion. “What is it?”
“Open it.” He smiled and ripped open the package carefully, and when he opened the velvet box, he found an ornament inside.
“Oh, wow,” he said. The ornament was engraved with the year, and it said ‘Our First Christmas.’ “Don’t we already have this, though? Your mom gave us one.”
“Yeah, but this one is a little different. Turn it over.” He turned it over, and his face scrunched up, trying to understand what it was saying.
“What?” Engraved on the back was the saying, ‘Our First Home.’
“Oh, I forgot the most important part.” You jumped up and walked into the kitchen, and came back, handing him an envelope. He opened it, and gasped. Tears were starting to form in his eyes.
“Are you serious?”
“I wanted to tell you so badly-” He cut you off, and hugged you.
“How did you do this?”
“I only had enough for the down payment, and I already co-signed you. Do you know how easy it is to forge your signature?”
“Wait, wait, wait, so it’s ours?”
“Yeah, it’s ours.” He laughed and hugged you again, pulling you into his lap. He was smiling widely and kissed your head a few more times.
“I can’t believe you did all of this.” You shrugged and looked at him happily.
“We get to move in next month.”
“This is literally the greatest thing that I have ever received. Thank you so much.”
“You’re welcome.”
“You kicked my ass.”
“Yeah I did!” you said, punching the air. He laughed and looked down at the papers in his hands. He pulled you back into his lap and kissed you.
“I’m so glad I married you.”
“I’m glad I said yes. Although, I expect more of those rings in the future.”
“You’ve got it. Merry Christmas.”
“Merry Christmas, baby.”
