📚Here is my list:

The "how to draw manga" series produced by Graphic-sha. These are for manga artist but they give great advice and information.

"Creating characters with personality" by Tom Bancroft. A great book that can help not just people who draw cartoons but also realistic ones. As it helps you with facial ques and how to make a character interesting.

"Albinus on anatomy" by Robert Beverly Hale and Terence Coyle. Great book to help someone learn basic anatomy.

"Artistic Anatomy" by Dr. Paul Richer and Robert Beverly Hale. A good book if you want to go further in-depth with anatomy.

"Directing the story" by Francis Glebas. A good book if you want to Story board or make comics.

"Animal Anatomy for Artists" by Eliot Goldfinger. A good book for if you want to draw animals or creatures.

"Constructive Anatomy: with almost 500 illustrations" by George B. Bridgman. A great book to help you block out shadows in your figures and see them in a more 3 diamantine way.

"Dynamic Anatomy: Revised and expand" by Burne Hogarth. A book that shows how to block out shapes and easily understand what you are looking out. When it comes to human subjects.

"An Atlas of animal anatomy for artist" by W. Ellenberger and H. Dittrich and H. Baum. This is another good one for people who want to draw animals or creatures.

Etherington Brothers, they make books and have a free blog with art tips.

📝As for Supplies, I recommend starting out cheap, buying Pencils and art paper at dollar tree or 5 below. If you want to go fancy Michaels is always a good place for traditional supplies. They also get in some good sales and discounts. For digital art, I recommend not starting with a screen art drawing tablet as they are usually more expensive.

For the Best art Tablet I recommend either Xp-pen, Bamboo or Huion. Some can range from about 40$ to the thousands.

So do with this information as you will but as you can tell there are ways to learn how to become an artist, without breaking the bank. The only thing that might be stopping YOU from using any of these things, is YOU.

I have made time to learn to draw and many artist have too. Either in-between working two jobs or taking care of your family and a job or regular school and chores. YOU just have to take the time or use some time management, it really doesn't take long to practice for like an hour or less. YOU also don't have to do it every day, just once or three times a week is fine.

🔥BI-WEEKLY STUDY CHALLENGE: THUMBNAILING🔥

Starting the challenge off with one of my personal favorites and go-to's: Thumbnailing!

There are many ways to thumbnail, though the one version we will be tackling is the one my teachers thought me off, which is the VERY minimal sketching done in less than even 30 seconds.

This process helps you try to place objects around a scene with little to no detail other than the rough idea. Preferably, you want to aim for 10 thumbnails, pushing every perspective possible and thinking outside the box; where can you push focus? Can you trade out items but keep the same camera position? How can you approach it? It's important to note that your first thumbnail won't always be your best one.

A problem a lot of artists face is perfectionism. It doesn't matter which art style you go with, we all feel a need to 'get it right' the first time, and you can accidentally limit yourself greatly that way! Try to make small squares on your page or canvas, and keep the distance far enough that you can't tell details such as wrinkle of clothes unless its the focus. Stick figures, cubes, circles, go abstract! Force yourself out of having to undo a brushstroke. Commit to it and work fast.

Thumbnailing helps with exploration. Most times, if not always, you'll need to study (ex:) wood or a stone. How other artists perceive these or how YOU yourself perceive it, is an important step in learning about it. What is easier in conveying a rock is all up to you and the message you want to give the viewer! I like to sketch on a separate page or next to my preferred thumbnail stones and other assets I intend to use in the main drawing down the line. There's no need to focus on 'oh I need it this way for the drawing' it's simply studying and understanding How this object appears- a rock can be small like a pebble, so it can look light, or a big mossy stone can be embedded into the earth, and you'd need machinery to take it out-

You can tell JUST by looking at something, how it feels, sounds, and tastes. If you want to approach it in a simpler style: What is the core essence of the object you are studying?

CHALLENGE

End results don't have to be colored or crispy clean! Just showing you understand your study better is enough! Any medium of art is encouraged! Paper, digital, 3d design and pixel alike! Any fandom is also welcomed!

Create at least 4-10 thumbnails

Have an exploration page of natural objects or anything relating to your final illustration (You can add to the page as you thumbnail, or start with this step before thumbnailing)

Create an illustration using one of your thumbnails and what you learned from your studies

posting because i've been feeling pretty anxious lately (idk why but i'm fine, promise), soon part 3 will be among us. hope you like this little preview :3

[...] you felt like you were in the middle of a test. your restless eyes alternated between his face and your laptop screen, the scanned document with words you spent hours writing were now being meticulously analyzed by your teacher. not just any teacher. your favorite teacher.

he read each word carefully, as if at that moment, he wanted to enter your mind to follow your line of reasoning. his hand rested on his chin briefly, the thin beard tickling the palm of his hand.

his eyes moved to the drafts spread out on the table before his eyes, gathering them in one hand and reading them cautiously. he never actually said it to you directly, but he loved your writing. not only that, he loved your handwriting. even with the mistakes you scribbled and wrote the right word afterwards. 

he thought it was cute. sometimes your words were faster than your thoughts. just like him. 

you tried not to be nervous, but it was impossible. like it or not, he was your teacher. you were just a student, you were taking your first steps, while he already knew this kind of subject backwards and forwards.

the fact that you didn't know what he was thinking made you even more nervous. his face was too impassive. did he like it? did he hate it? will he compliment you? will he give you some advice to improve?

this uncertainty made you try to dispel your nervousness somehow, looking around the empty library downstairs as you drummed your fingers on the skin of your thigh impatiently and deliberately.

he glanced at you, noticing your internal struggle. his right hand reached yours, stilling your tapping fingers. his hand covered yours, but his touch was gentle, reassuring. 

“it's ok, darlin’. i'm almost done.” he muttered to you, his eyes still on your words marked with black ink, but completely aware of your anxiety.

his thumb traced the back of your hand in a soothing gesture, drawing invisible circles on your skin. it calmed you down somehow, but it still made you nervous. but in a good way. 

your teacher's hand remained there, tracing imaginary patterns on your skin, making you feel at ease, as if you didn't want to be without his comforting touch. his other fingers consequently rested on your thigh, gently caressing, following what his thumb did with the back of your hand.

you glanced at his hand, noticing the veins marking his skin like a canvas, the long fingers resting there, making small caressing movements. the same fingers that were inside you days ago. god, you were already feverish just thinking about it and remembering the feeling of his digits scissoring inside you, stretching you as his lips were wrapped around your clit, sucking it like it was his favorite candy.

“you okay there?” he asked quietly, breaking you out of your reverie. you just nodded, humming in agreement, hoping your face didn't give too much away. “do you want me to keep going?”

“the reading?" you asked. he chuckled, his face scrunched a bit, making the little wrinkles appear at the corners of his eyes.

“no.” he moved his hand away from yours, so he could finally feel the warm skin of your inner thigh beneath his palm. 

he waited to see if you would back down. but you did the opposite. you opened your legs a bit more, inviting him to go further. you wanted his touch, his voice, his eyes on you. you wanted it all.

his fingers followed the path through your upper leg, touching the inside of your thighs, looking at you to catch any signs of discomfort, what there wasn't. you never had any doubts when it came to him. you always wanted everything he could give you.

the path to reach the bottom of your skirt was calm and torturous. your toes curled inside your black ballet flats, his closeness made your shoulders gently touch, the soft material of his shirt brushing against your bare arm.

‘’good?’’ he whispered to you, his index finger gently brushing against the material of your lace panties. he couldn't help it, even though you were open with him, showing no signs of discomfort, he still wanted to make sure you were on the same page.

you couldn't lie. although you were enjoying it, you were a little scared. you were in the library that was empty, but still, someone could show up at any moment. it was dangerous, but a part of you wouldn't let him stop. maybe it was the thrill.

you nodded, your fingers reaching for the hem of your skirt, pulling it up just enough so he could see what color your panties were. they were gray with black details on the edges. it made him smile internally because he was also wearing gray boxers. you were unintentionally matching.

when he was almost touching you to feel your heat and wetness through the fabric of your panties, something stopped him. someone.

‘’mr. turner, i found the copy of the book you asked for. it's a little old, but it'll do the job.’’ the librarian's voice so close made him immediately retract his fingers in the blink of an eye, he straightened his posture and looked at her. thank god the round table covered you from your belly down.

‘’lovely. thank you, mrs. gillian.’’ he smiled politely, taking the book from her hand and placing it on the desk, acting so naturally that even he was surprised.

she excused herself with a nod, the sound of her sandals against the porcelain floor fading as she walked away. you let out a breath you didn't even know you were holding, your heart pounding so hard you thought it might escape your mouth if you weren't clenching your throat so tightly.

‘’fuck, that was close.’’ he muttered, more to himself than to you. then, he looked back at you, an apologetic look on his face. ‘’i'm sorry, honey. she just appeared out of nowhere.’’

‘’it's okay, there was no way you could have known.’’ you tilted your head to the side, your shoulders still brushing against each other.

he nodded slightly, his eyes falling to his lap, his hard length squeezed by the confines of his pants and boxers to the point of being painful. your gaze followed his, and you couldn't help but lick your lips at the sight.

‘’you know…’’ he began after a silent throat clearing, his gaze gently lifting to meet yours, eyes filled with anticipation. ‘’there's no one upstairs.’’ [...]

Hi! You were the first Hogwarts Legacy fan artist I came across and I wanted to say how much I love your works 🥰

I recently saw an ask about which program you use to create your pieces which got me wondering... 👀 do you have any tips to share with aspiring digital artists trying to learn how to properly add shading/lighting?? I'm happy with my pieces during the flat colour stage, but every time I attempt shading/lighting or other methods of adding texture/definition/perspective, it always looks "off" to me 🤔 so my WIP folder is huge rn.

Hiya there!! Thank you so much for this ask!! First of all, I gotta say how wonderful it is that you're excited about art and want to learn more about it. I just had a chat with a friend about this but I think art is such a fun, vast hobby, full of endless possibilities, and whenever people want to get into it and learn, it's just wahhhhh. Fills my heart with joy and makes me bounce :D Now, full disclaimer, I am not an art teacher so my say on the matter is not that of a professional. I struggle with these things myself as well but I'm really happy if any of my advice can help a fellow artist. Keep in mind that works for me might not work for you, and "good art" is highly subjective. But I understand that achieving that fine balance between knowing how to imitate life and then being able to recreate that imagine in your head on an empty canvas is something a lot of artists want. That's hard af though. But you can't have success without failure, that's why we have so many WIPS xD Lucky for us, our brains and hands are amazing at learning. Eventually those WIPS might become actual realised works. Crying, praying and manifesting for us both xDDD Now, if you're struggling with shading and lighting, I suggest doing value studies. Perhaps take black and white photos with a striking relationship between shadow and light, then try to replicate that without colour picking. Try to observe the whole picture, without paying too much attention to the details at first, Make your brush strokes large especially when sketching out the initial shapes. You can give yourself a time limit of say, 5-60 minutes, for each study, but I wouldn't go over a 1,5h hour limit. I recommend using fairly simple images, with less textures and where shapes are the main character so to speak. Then when you think you're ready, you can do the same thing but this time choose coloured images but still use only white/black. Excercises like these help me a ton when I feel like I wanna update my skills. Doing art is a never-ending learning curve but I feel like that's what makes it so stimulating hehe Below is an example of one value study I did recently. I don't do these often but I know I probably should xD I always just do colour studies nowdays cause that's something I'm most interested in observing at the moment :D But this is just an example of what you can do if you want to learn shading in particular. Now it doesn't need to be perfect, it's just practice that may help you get used to values and how they interact with each other on the canvas.

You can also do colour studies if that is something you're interested in. Those might be a bit more challenging but as long as you keep each study short and use simple images (like literally just an image of an egg on a table or something xD), it shouldn't be too intimidating. Sorry for such a long reply xD I hope you have lots of fun and get all the possible enjoyment from making art! So happy for you!!! Hello, here I upload a short speed paint of about 30 seconds or so.

They have asked me how I draw, well here it is.

The first thing of all is to start with a sketch, the good thing about painting digitally is that you can move, change and delete without destroying your canvas, so you can make mistakes whatever you want. In this drawing of Ronal I have used a photo of Kate Winslet to draw his mouth (in my opinion one of the most complicated things, taking into account that she is smiling and the muscles of the face are complex), but usually I recommend starting with simpler forms.

Then I do a simplified study of lights and shadows, that is, a light gray will be the light and a slightly darker gray will be the shadow, making a differentiation of planes in a simpler way, then different grays can be added, lighter or darker.

This study of light and shadows must be taken as if it were creating something similar to 3D or a sculpture (I recommend doing studies of sculptures, many lights are reflected on the surface or certain shadows are projected differently)

Then, playing with the blending modes (color and multiply) I add what I think will be my base color, and then I edit this base until I get the desired color.

While I do all this I usually rotate my canvas (like the masters did with mirrors, but being digital it is much easier) to correct errors.

Finally you have to add skin texture with a noise brush, you can do it with special brushes (you add it in multiply mode, but never combine this layer with the layer where you have your drawing) and continue adding details, some highlights here, a light reflects there...

Since I haven't finished it yet, I don't have anything else to show, but adding more shadows to give a sense of depth would be very appropriate.

I'm not an expert, if my teachers saw me leaving the background for last they would kill me hahaha, and many other things that I'm sure I do terribly, but if you think I paint well or something and you feel frustrated because you compare your work with that of others, let me tell you that it's all a matter of practicing and practicing until your hands hurt hahahaha

I have been in an art school since I was 18 (I am now 23) without stopping until I burned out, there are great people, too many xD, but art should be your tool for progress and not a way to validate yourself as a person, simply a hobby, a way of expressing feelings for something or someone, and art has many forms, styles and colors

Doesn’t have photography , but she does join Logan after school to help out with certain camera functions or just take photos of eachother for her memory book ( she has one , cannot tell me otherwise )

Also uses highlighters just cause . I mean they’re fun so why not . Her and Aiden share a bunch of random stickers that he got on like eBay for customization 😼

I swear I won’t repeat the same “ Aiden is totally good at art “ headcanon but …….. 😅😅

Went into painting just so he can have fun with the colors and , sigh … he’s good at mixing them . ( he’s not allowed too , but he makes it work out . Sometimes )

RARELY gets things done in time , like he’ll be doing anything other then drawing in class , yet somehow turn it in . Well , after a few weeks past the due date .

becahse of that , no one really knows what he draws but the teacher is impressed so 🤷

I like to imagine he has one other hidden room in his house , filled with unfinished paintings , sketches , projects , puzzles , yadda . He hasn’t really shown anyone where it is , or let’s anyone inside but has let Ben check it out a few times cause he’s special 🫶

Always does his projects in his room . Why ? Cause it’s bigger , more room to work , duh . Also , so he can BLAST music because music just gives him ideas of what he can work on ( projection go hard 🤟🤟🤟 )

he doesn’t really care what he uses , but he hates charcoal , opposed to Ben . It gets everywhere ( in a bad way ) , it’s dull , he hates having to blend it with those stupid paper things because they sound and feel gross , yadda yadda yadda . Butttt he LOVES markers and crayons . Colored pencils work if he’s feeling slightly unmotivated .

uses giant AF canvas’s cause more room to work plus more detail . He loves detailing the most random stuff because it all had to blend correctly , right ? 😼☝️

likes pottery , but he doesn’t like the feeling of it drying on his hands . It’s gross and crusty . Plus he got in trouble once for throwing some of it around the class lol

Totally draws on his arms with sharpie ( ashlyn tells him no cause poisoning or something but pshhhh what does she know ? He’ll still doodle on his pants ) .

Probably does Rubix cube art when he’s feeling extra silly . Also glues and sticks whatever he can find onto what he’s working on for pizazz . But he doesn’t really like anything he’s made so 😿

also the reason why he has so many unfinished projects is because woopsy doo ADHD . It’s always “ oh I should work on this one “ but then there’s “ but this once looks funner to do “ but oh then there’s a “ which one would take me less time to do ? “ and “ if I do this first will I have time to do the other one ? “ and either ends up doing nothing or multitasking .

Takes painting with Aiden because she really didn’t want to go alone .

thought about pottery once , tried it , hated the feeling of it getting under her nails and it kept drying up and she had to wash her hands constantly and it kept getting in her hair and it was a bad experience . ( more projection )

painting really isn’t her favorite , but she likes the look of the colors mixing and it’s kinda like dancing to her , with the long , sometimes constant movements and new variations . Look it just puts her in a slight trance .

doesn’t do well with creativity coming into play , but she managed to find a way with turning art into dance , like referencing other dancers online and copying their moments onto a canvas to make it dramatic or something .

Prefers prismacolor pencils over most things , sometimes joins Taylor and Logan after school to try out photography .

Sometimes she and Aiden would share headphones and put on a shared playlist or a podcast on spotify . They always bicker about it though because ashlyn skips through songs often and Aiden can’t sit on a podcast unless it’s playing somewhere background ( still working on this one cause would that work ? Sharing headphones and listening to stuff or would that be too loud cause I’m not sure )

for once please can she see what Aiden has done like he’s always on his phone or playing with another puzzle from his backpack how do they fit in there anyway just Plsplslpsopls he has a good grade in this class how he’s so confusing sometimes double U - tea - eph

Joined because he already does baseball why not choose something to maybe help him relax

Bad choice , does not relax him ( most of the time ) , can’t understand color theory ( same ) , ended up getting put into the same class with Aiden ( remember when Aiden threw pottery ? Yeah . . Also ashlyn is there that’s cool but still )

He still likes hanging with Aiden , he just won’t admit it and it gets harder and harder too when he keeps writing and drawing on his work ( and him too 😡😡 )

Pretty fond of water coloring , it’s one of the few things that he enjoys doing in his pass time . . . But he’s not that good at keeping the water to a minimum so it ends up dripping everywhere .

He’s not that good at art either , but he’s pretty good at poses , specifically ones he can remember like the “ batter up ! “ stance in baseball or his signature “ crosses my arms and stares at you begrudgingly “ . He’s REALLY good at that one .

He teaches Ben Guitar , Ben teaches him easier ways to draw . Not a babyish style , but just a simplified way to do something without putting too much thought into it .

he and Taylor team up in art projects , but not in class , at home . Ash and Aiden usually partner up in class , and since he and Taylor have seperate classes there , who’s to say they can’t help eachother else where ? Twin telepathy ! ( I think , idk )

Just finishes quick and turns it in . He gave effort , and that’s good enough . If he really wants to try and ‘ finish ‘ finish it , he will . Trust .

Literally the only one in the group who really takes pottery ( he’s lonely someone help him )

dw Barron isnt there . He got kicked out for throwing clay at people ( mostly Logan )

Actually really likes taking pottery , it’s fun !!

He makes pots for the plants back home 💪😋

pretty good at using the utensils , one of the only people the teacher can trust to use them correctly

the pottery wheel isn’t his favorite favorite because sometimes it spins to fast and clay gets splattered everywhere , but it’s better then starting from scratch , and turns out really nice when he gets into the zone or something

made mugs for his grandparents !! ( and the gang , which they all used theirs for many different things . They love it )

not that good at coming up with particular designs , so he usually asks for help . Doesn’t matter who , he’s open to everyone’s ideas 😋☝️☝️

takes a littttllleee while to turn things in on time but he’s a good student so the teacher doesn’t mind
