PSA: Dracula: The Danse Macabre creator Gabriel Urbina is teaching a set of online classes in the new year! 👨‍🏫

First, he's doing a new round of his classic online workshop Writing Stories For Sound! It's the three-hour interactive crash course through how he thinks about stories that are told entirely through audio - what their unique strengths and weaknesses are, what makes for a great audio experience, how to tell stories that make audiences lean forward. 🎙️

He's teaching the workshop two times - those are on February 2nd at 2:00 PM Eastern and on February 4th at 7:00 PM Eastern!

But wait, there's more! Because Gabriel is also offering his first ever Masterclass Edition of his online writing workshop, and it's a doozy! 📚

Gabriel is going to write the script for the pilot for a new audio fiction series in just six weeks, and he wants you to come along and write a script of your own! In this six week class, he will break down everything he knows about going from idea to full script, and he'll give you a series of writing assignments that turn the mountain of writing a script into a manageable climb! Best of all, he'll do everything he asks his students to do, so you'll get the inside look at how an Urbina story takes shape and comes together! 🛠️

The Masterclass is a six-week course, with sessions on Wednesday nights at 8:00 PM, starting on February 5th!

Summary: Everything about Professor Lan, from the way he speaks, thoughtful and poignant and never loud— like he was saying I will not raise my voice. If you want to learn, pay attention. It was one hell of a power move, in Hao Mei’s opinion— to the way he dresses, to the way even his gestures have a subtle elegance to them, scream that he is as meticulous as they come. Which is why it comes as such a shock to Hao Mei when someone in booty shorts appears in the background of Professor Lan’s video. In which Professor Lan's students try to figure out exactly who that person who appears in his video is Kay's comments: Despite this taking place during ... THE PANDEMIC ... it didn't cause feelings of horror in me and I could really appreciate how soft this was. I really enjoyed the POV outsider on Wangxian and the perspective of the students trying to figure out who their professor's hot roommate was. I wish my online classes had been this fun during ... THE PANDEMIC ... but alas, I already knew who my professor was dating. Excerpt: The class had progressed past the halfway point with no incidents— not even one person accidentally unmuting themselves and allowing their ambient environment noises to interrupt Professor Lan’s lectures until they either figured it out themselves or Professor Lan pointed it out. That all changed, however, when someone walked into Professor Lan’s background. Hao Mei has to blink and take a few seconds to register that there is a person in Professor Lan’s background, a very tall person dressed in black booty shorts— very tight booty shorts at that— and a bright red tank top— the exact opposite of the neutral, faded colour palette Professor Lan favours— hair pulled up in a messy bun, and one fairly muscular arm absolutely covered in tattoos. The very antithesis of Professor Lan’s entire being. The person walks past Professor Lan, not even looking in the direction of his laptop, and grabs a book from his bookshelf before leaving, not making a single sound in all that time. Professor Lan also makes no acknowledgement of the fact that another person had just walked into his room and grabbed one of his belongings and had left without saying a word. Hao Mei wasn’t sure she hadn’t imagined the person.

Spring 2025 Classes:

College Skills - an 8 week class for freshmen to help them with learning the college experience and how to be successful. i’m taking this to help with starting my bachelor’s in the fall bc it’ll be much more serious than what i’ve been doing. (ie scheduled classes, topics i’ll actually need to study, an internship, etc.) - 3 credits

Excel - a 16 week class teaching the Excel program. taken as an easy elective. - 3 credits

Precalculus Algebra - a 12 week math class required to complete my degree. - 3 credits

Employment Strategies - an 8 week class meant for students leaving college, helps build a resume/cv, teaches how to succeed at interviews, teacher gives a letter of recommendation at the end - 1 credit

Environmental Geology - a 12 week science class, taken as an elective but i’m interested to see what all i’ll learn - 3 credits

While my birdwatching classes don't include material on bird-related nursery rhymes (or 90s alt-rock bands named for them), you will learn more about how to observe and identify the avian dinosaurs in your neighborhood and beyond!

In addition to birdwatching, I also have classes on foraging, geology, lichens, ecopsychology, and more. Most of them are online, and all of them are open to the general public, no prerequisites or experience needed. Note that November and December dates are for 2023, all others are for 2024.

The days are passing by quite quickly! And as such, I’ve been trying to keep a positive attitude for school. So far, so good. As long as I keep this up, I’ll be able to have good grades for a long while! > < I’m counting on it! o(^-^ o )✧//

Today I spent nearly all day surfing the internet for my Geography class. Tiring to say the least. But thankfully, I was able to come up with a good claim and evidence over the status of our declining birth rates. Thing is… 〜(＞＜)〜 I had to record myself explaining everything. I totally got the jitters! Watching someone else’s video might’ve discouraged me a bit (T﹏T) (shouldn’t have done that). Thankfully (after what felt like three thousand tries) I got through the recording smoothly! I hope to receive a passing grade at least 人´∀｀).

Recording myself for something simple as a homework grade made me extremely nervous. Now how am I supposed to keep a good social life with others if I can’t even handle that? T~T wahhh

About to start my second week of online (zoom) classes tomorrow. First week wasn't as bad as I anticipated. Very awkward but not bad. What's really nice about this format of learning is that while I'm technically in a class full of other people, none of those people are there IRL, which means I can do my work comfortably without the people around me. Less anxiety = more creativity
