does anyone remember that digimon tamers stage play that was touted as a canon sequel to the original tamers where the villain was literally named political correctness and one of its moves was called cancel culture and the tamers had to stop it because it was spreading wokeism and fake news and every paranoid, wide-eyed rightoid online was clapping like a seal over digimon being based and japan being a bastion of sanity meanwhile its very much japanese writer who also wrote the original tamers had spent the past several years blogging about his extremely US-centric conspiracy theories about 9/11 and covid and this stage play was the culmination of that

Weekly Digimon Comic: Digimon Tamers - episode 9

When this idea first hit me, I thought "Nah, I've already done comics about both halves of this gag." But then I realized those comics are THIRTEEN YEARS OLD AT THIS POINT. That is horrifying, and also more than long enough for me to tackle a subject matter a second time. Because Lord knows this particular topic deserves as much mockery as possible.

...and before some smart aleck suggests that this idea should inspire Takato to draw MORE fanart, I will first judge you and then remind you that the REAL fear here would be Rika finding out about it.

Digimon Data Squad (Savers) - Episode 7

This episode was really fun, I love a good goofy slice-of-life time. It was also neat to have a solo episode for Tohma. I'm sure the shippers appreciate him getting close to Masaru's family (of course he also canonically is crushing on Masaru's mom). The undercurrent of this episode was familial baggage on both Tohma and Masaru's ends. A very familiar theme for Digimon fans.

Notes:

I really felt for Tohma this whole episode. I'm totally an itinerary/activities person but most of the people I travel with are "play it by ear" people. Drives me insane. One of these days I'll do a big solo trip and it will be heavenly. It was sweet that he played along to make Chika happy tho.

Masaru and Agumon pretending to be maids at the beginning?? Not even butlers? lol. Why did they think that would make Tohma happy exactly? (I guess this was probably when maid cafes were becoming a big thing)

Tohma casually mentioning his PhD lol. PhD in what, Tohma? Doctorate of Tamer-ing?

So Tohma's one of those sad rich people characters who's only "family" is paid employees (like the chauffer we see). I wonder if his parents' backstory will be different from the typical "they're busy with work" cliche...(or maybe they're dead 😬)

Oh wait! In the family picture (see above), Masaru's dad is wearing his necklace! Lore foreshadowing...

Masaru being suspicious but rolling with Tohma acting extra kind to his mom/sister was cute. I'm glad they're buds now.

Why did the monjayaki chef act so offended when Tohma tried to pay with his card lol? I know cash-only places are more common in Japan, but he needed to calm down.

Speaking of, I've never heard of monjayaki before! I've only ever had okonomiyaki. Add that to my "foods to try" list (not that I'll be able to find it in America boohoo).

I was a bit disappointed that the Sanrio Puroland parody didn't also have parodies of the Sanrio characters. I guess that would have been confusing because they might look like digimon.

So...that dub censorship, huh? Literally the dumbest thing ever. As if cartoony bombs haven't been in animated (and American) media for ages?? Was this a post-9/11 thing? Also, "Citramon" still explodes at the end of the episode. Ya know...like a bomb? So silly...At least it's a good meme we can all laugh at now :P

(They could have at least called him "Citrus Nanimon" to keep the continuity a little).

Free day off and I was suppose to be working on my Digimon fanfic chapter ^^; to try and get in the mood better more Top 10 lists!

Sorcerimon- It's like Wizardmon but snazzier (Wizardmon is snazzy to) and one I have a bit of history with RP wise during a rather difficult time, so I have quite the attachment to it.

2. Kabuterimon - This mon just stood out so much from the original line up it simply stole your attention, it is so different to all the other Champions, on top of being Tento's digivolution to boot!

3. IceDevimon - This one off Digimon was unironically the best villain in Frontiers. While I have much to thank the Tamers version as it was an inspiration to a rather significant OC at the time, which really helped me deal with secondary school at the time, even if I wasn't aware of such outlet till I was much older.

4. Gulusgammamon - The Mon knows how to steal your attention and keep it but every appearance was great; I just wish they did more with him in the actual show, his concept was incredible but he spent most the show on the side-lines.

5. Devimon - The original main boss, part of its nostalgia, he was a great first boss, part of it simply for sharing the dub voice of M.Bison at the time and it worked wonders for its characters. (It is such a good voice ＼(＾���＾)／)

6. BetelGammamon - It looks like a Sonic character, don't deny it! (I swear Digimon is having a phase, there's been quite a few who could tick that box in recent years.)

7. Starmon - I am a sucker for the Starmon line, a perfect example of less is more.

8. BlackGatomon Uver - Ok, so who didn't love this Mon when it showed up and still so mysterious, I hope they do more with it.

9. Centarumon - Joining the list of Mons with cool designs that they should do more with, it's always been an interesting one, which I'd like to see more off but it's always just been stuck in the background.

10. Snimon - A digimon for the longest time I thought was an Ultimate/Perfect... (makes you wonder why they struggled so much in the show?) It's another snazzy mon that just seems to have been forgotten to the ages.

Fandom: Digimon Tamers Genre: Mystery & Action

While the Tamers in the real world try to figure out how the mysterious girl has managed to draw parts of the digital world into the real world, two humans are lost in the digital world.

I think out of all types of relationships in Digimon I like the most, it has to be the older/younger friendships.

Digimon Adventure 02: Takeru(11) and Iori(9)

Digimon Frontier: Takuya(11) and Tomoki(9)

Appmon: Eri(14) and Astra(11)

When it comes to age gaps between children, you can really see the several year differences between them. It's different from the same-age friendship personally. When you're the same age as a kid, you're considered equals. But add a few years, then suddenly one of you have more "authority" so to say, or at least more mature than the other one.

I remember being asked why I hung out with younger kids, as apparently that wasn't normal. But eh, friendship is friendship.

Tamers sadly doesn't have any kind of relationships like this. The closest we have is probably Ryo(14) and Shiuchon(7), and that's like one scene near the end of the series. Though I suppose Yamaki(32) and Jenrya's dad Janyuu(42) kinda count as age gap friendship as well 🤔

Digimon Tamers - Volume 2

It turns out this series is super out of print and rare. My library only has the first 2 volumes, so I'll be reading the rest after this one online (if you want to buy it it's like $80-$100 per volume!) It's a little bit of a relief honestly, because the volume that I got from the library is pretty crusty and battered. I think I saw some dried shredded cheese on some of the pages 🤢 Really shows who the audience is.

Ch. 8

This manhua has really bad continuity and no sense of space. Characters will just pop out of nowhere. Culumon is the worst offender, but in this chapter there were a bunch of dramatic scenes between Rika and Renamon and then it just randomly turned out that Takato and Jian were watching the whole time but not saying anything? Riiiight.

I was really confused at the end and thought that Yamaki was saying he created a digimon but it was actually a really clumsy flashback to the original digimon programmers. Confusing panels...

Ch 9

Wow, the Devas arc already, it obviously felt like it took a lot longer to get here in the anime. I wonder if they'll do all the Devas or condense them/do some off screen?

At least one thing that's nice about this manga is that I can take in the Devas designs without them jumping around too much.

Ch. 10

Some of these jokes are flying over my head. Takato tries to name his group of friends "team rock" and he mentions "a skinny guy on TV who talks about the power of positive thinking." I wish they would cut out the unfunny, outdated material and just tell the damn story >:/

Worst boys Hirokazu and Kenta show up to reestablish themselves as part of the party...yaaay

Didn't realize that MegaloGrowmon was called WarGrowlmon in the dub. I guess it is kind of nice to keep the naming conventions more consistent. "Megalo" is sort of a weird prefix (megalomania?)

Ch. 11

I'm still obsessed with Jian's computer that can read trading cards as if they were CD-ROMs. I wish that technology existed!

Two perfect evolutions in one chapter? Pretty rushed but okay...they still looked cool. (Taomon and Rapidmon). I think the Wonderswan card game rot my brain a little cuz when I saw Rapidmon I was thinking about all the option cards I could use with him.

Ch. 12

Other than my fave Antylamon, I think Indramon is the most memorable of all the devas. His design is really unique, he's massive, and he kicks the shit outta Impmon. I like his emo hair too lol

When they realize that Hirokazu's homemade blue card works I'm surprised they didn't move onto a counterfeit card making scheme after that. I just it only works if it was made with pure intentions or something.

Ch. 13

Why is Juri's dub name "Jeri" when "Julie" was right there?

Damn, they really killed any suspense with Makuramon's intro there. In the anime he's presented as a kid at first but here they showed him as a kid but then slapped the name tag "Makuramon" right next to him...

They skipped a bunch because Juri just magically knows that Guilmon exists. They showed Hirokazu and Kenta meeting him, but not her. Oh well, I guess.

Ch. 14

Calling Juri, Hirokazu and Kenta "groupies" is pretty funny, not gonna lie. So accurate.

I like that they're clearly ID-ing each deva as its corresponding zodiac animal. I think there was a little bit of that in the anime, but not as spelled out as it is here. Usually I don't like to be spoon fed, but there's something satisfying about them saying "that's the boar, that's the monkey, etc."
