why do mythal and solas shapeshift their own elvhen bodies into mythic animal forms while ghilan'nain and elgar'nan rely instead on a bound archdemon. ghilan'nain ill accept because shes basically a mythic creature herself with her tentacles. but why would elgar'nan not shapeshift into a dragon. does he not have the ability? why do mythal and fen'harel have the ability? were archdemons a status symbol of divine power that the evanuris started using after mythal's murder? it must be considering mythal does not have her own? is it a cultural thing where having a pet dragon was seen as more impressive than turning into one and thats why elgar'nan doesnt bother? what about that codex entry in trespasser about the elf being banished for "daring to take the form reserved for the gods"? even if elgar'nan found shapeshifting to be banal or inconvenient or proletariat (which doesnt make sense because again. mythal does it) why wouldn't he employ it as a last resort in the fight against rook and solas? rook and solas literally would have lost against another dragon. he could have literally won if he just shapeshifted. are you telling me he cant? why not? why cant the most powerful of the evanuris take the form of a dragon? why cant he become a dragon when his wife famously becomes a dragon every tuesday night? actually, why doesnt morrigan turn into a dragon to help fight elgar'nan? why does she only flap around as a fucking crow? what are the bounds of shapeshifting both magically and culturally for ancient elves??? why does veilguard think i wont ask these questions?
#dont fucking PUT IT IN THE GAME and then DONT EXPLAIN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!#i also want to know WHY solas chooses the wolf#nothing about him is deliberately wolf-like#is it all because of elgar'nan's comment about a lap-dog hiding a wolf?#did he not take wolf shape until that comment?#can he take any shape or just the wolf?#why cant he become a dragon after absorbing mythals power?#what happened to his flaming demon wings from tevinter nights?#this is what i mean when i say veilguard insults my intelligence#it banks on the assumption that i will not ask questions and thus does not even bother to provide me with answers#veilguard critical#solas

Why did Apollo favor the trojans in the Illiad?
So, dear Anon, I've been thinking about how to answer this question since I got it a couple days ago and I think I kind of want to make something clear before I get into it.
The Iliad by itself as a poem only covers some of the events that occur in the final year of a long protracted conflict that had been brewing for at least two decades and was an active war for ten. Within the space of the Iliad itself, the motivations and affairs of the major players are often referenced but there are many, many parts of the story that are not there because they belong to a different story cycle that has been since lost or was never recorded with words. In the space of the Iliad Apollo's motivations are questioned a lot - his pride is questioned by Poseidon who thinks Apollo should be just as angry at the Trojans as he considering Apollo was treated equally as poorly by Laomedon while they worked together. His honour is questioned by Hera who chastises him for taking the Trojans' side when he'd proclaimed that Achilles would live a long life and prosper at Thetis and Peleus' wedding. His own sister calls him a coward for refusing to fight when Zeus gives permission for the gods to go wild on the battlefield. For all that there's this image of Apollo in the Iliad as some staunch and unwavering protector of the Trojans, believe it or not, I largely think of Apollo as neutral in the war.
Which, I suppose, comes back to the question - why did Apollo favour the Trojans? The truthful answer is that I don't know. The Iliad and all its connected stories isn't something I've done enough research on to have an answer or a reference to an answer off the top of my head. The reasoning I'm aware of is that Apollo was a Patron God of Troy and really a god doesn't need any reason besides that to protect his people but it's not like Apollo abandoned the Greeks either. Calchas is the biggest example of that I can point to - descended directly from a priest of Apollo and one who attributed his mantic power to the god, Calchas was pivotal in ensuring the Greeks even got to Troy in the first place.
From a personal perspective however, I think Apollo was more dedicated to the house of Priam than he was the city of Troy itself. Apollo's affection for that house and all its members ran deep - from his admiration of Hecuba and Hector to his love and attempted courtship of Cassandra to his blessings given to Helenus, Deiphobos, Cassandra, Troilus and even his partnership with Paris - Apollo loved the house of Priam. When you think about the times Apollo lashes out against the Greeks, it's generally because they've done some nonsense to earn his ire. The plague was caused by Agamemnon disrespecting his priest, his aid in the slaughter of Patroclus was because he didn't respect him, his minor grudge against Diomedes too was because he tried to test Apollo's mettle and well, the less said about Achilles the better. Apart from his obvious favouring of Hector in the skirmishes, Apollo doesn't really oppose the Greeks. He has a ton of reasons to by the time the Iliad rolls around, including avenging the death of two of his sons, but he remains mostly satisfied with conducting his father's business and overseeing the war from a somewhat professional perspective. To me, it's always been less about Apollo caring about the fate of Troy as a city itself and more about him just really wanting to protect the people in the city that he's come to love and respect.
Of course, I encourage you to take my words with a big tablespoon of salt - like I said, I don't really know enough about the facts in particular to give a solid, confident answer but I can give you my interpretation of it. Maybe consult someone like @littlesparklight for a more comprehensive and grounded response 🤔
#ginger answers asks#Thank you so much for the question even if my answer was somewhat lacking lmao#For the record btw Apollo doesn't stay mad at Diomedes forever either - he pretty much drops it after the Funeral Games#and helps him get rid of the cursed ass Palladium when he goes to consult an oracle about it lmao#Apollo just generally doesn't fuck with people who have too much hubris for their own good#Like he r e a l l y hates that#But Apollo more or less went wherever he was called and did whatever needed to be done#to keep the war flowing and progressing the way it should#I always find his lack of retaliation against Achilles to be a point of extreme interest#Yes he eventually aids in Achilles death together with Paris but Apollo refrained from getting vengeance against him for years#Depictions of Apollo being held back when Achilles assaults and kills Troilus always ALWAYS intrigue me#And it's always what I think about when I hear people talk about Apollo hating the Greeks or favouring the Trojans#Apollo didn't have any beef with his family at that time and he certainly didn't care enough about any particular human to go against his#family - he says so himself when Poseidon is goading him to fight and yet I cannot help but think about how he kills Neoptolemus#Interesting man indeed#apollo#the iliad

My hot take is that if Merlin didn’t love Arthur, the Disir episode would have still gone exactly the same.
#he didn’t do it strictly because arthur’s his friend. he believes in the prophecies.#kilgharrah literally instructed him to prevent mordred from killing arthur to fulfill the prophecies (long-term solution vs. easy out)#how many times has merlin tried to interfere only for shit to down spiral? look at 4x03. or even merlin saving morgana’s life in 2x12#but also. most importantly. merlin’s opinion is not the ultimate decider on this. arthur is the one whose opinion actually counts here#and frankly he made his decision here without any convincing from merlin#merlin did not provide any real argument or counterargument to arthur’s points#arthur only did it because he believed it was right (or rather it’s easier for him to believe that magic corrupts people)#like genuinely. rewatch the scene. merlin did not provide any reasons for his stance. he just answers ‘no’ to a ‘yes or no’ question#arthur could have easily acquiesced to the disir#merlin missed an opportunity to attempt to convince arthur otherwise sure but arthur’s shown to ignore merlin if he thinks it’s the right#thing to do (think back to 5x01 for example)#genuinely merlin does not make a difference here. he’s just a witness who has the misfortune of knowing the possible outcomes#both the favorable and destructive#with a penchant for blaming himself#merlin emrys#arthur pendragon#merlin and arthur#merlin meta#my meta#bbc merlin

(this is tagged for it as well, but putting it here: the below involves some non-graphic mention/discussion of suicide in relation to episode 3x78)
I think it's important to keep in mind, regarding the most recent episode, that while Ashton's behavior was extremely dangerous and reckless, it was not suicidal in intent. Ashton thought it would work. They thought that they would fix things, and they ignored all the smart people warning them against it because it would imply a lot of negative things about their parents. That doesn't mean it wasn't an action taken out of a certain lack of self-regard (Ashton's realization of this is what drives much of his conversations in the first half of the episode); but it's much more akin to an accidental overdose, or a drunk/reckless driving, or other dangerous choices. It feels very true to the idea of punk that Taliesin is going for, in which dying young is always very much a possibility, even perhaps an expectation; but not necessarily a goal. Ashton did not expect taking the shard to result in their death, and is incredibly shaken specifically because it did.
With that in mind I think the party's reactions seem very real and very understandable. The fact is, when someone does something very risky and nearly dies (or even is briefly clinically dead, using real-world terms) but ultimately survives it's extremely normal for one of the emotional responses to be anger that they put themselves in such danger. It is not, perhaps, rational, but most emotions aren't. It hurts a lot when someone one is close to does something that harmful to themselves. I don't judge the other members of Bells Hells for expressing those feelings. Frankly, them not expressing similar feelings in the past might very well be why Ashton made the decisions he did: the party lacking trust and walking on eggshells around each other is why he didn't confide in them, and why they fell apart so completely here.
I think it's relevant that Chetney tells Fearne, after stating he likes Ashton, that either she or Ashton can talk to him if they "want out", and he pretty heavily implies that this indicates not just leaving Bells Hells, but suicide, and that he has considered the latter in the past. It's clear that initially Chetney considers that a possible reason for Ashton's actions. He then gives Ashton the "You should leave" speech only after everyone present has been talking at dinner, after Ashton has indicated that he will help find Laudna. It only comes out after Ashton's emotional state is made more clear to him: it's pretty bad, but not actively at risk of self-harm (and indeed, desperately trying to avoid it and to change).
Finally, it's worth considering how important anger is to Ashton. Obviously I don't think having Imogen, FCG, and Chetney yell at them feels good. I also think it's going to feel better than apathy, and more honest than any other option. I don't think a forced gentleness would be better; in fact it might be worse, with them taking a break because clearly Ashton is having a hard time and needs to recover (shades of how Marisha mentioned Laudna feeling like a burden following her resurrection), rather than "we are clearly all in disarray and all have been not dealing with a lot of emotions, and this could have been any of us, and we should all regroup." I mentioned before that ultimately what's important is, angry as they are, Bells Hells undeniably stayed, and FCG and Imogen at least made it clear early on that they would, even if they were angry. Ashton was abandoned in the past by people who weren't even angry, is the thing. I don't think they cared enough to be.
#tw suicide#let me know if you need other tags.#critical role spoilers#critical role#ashton greymoore#truly the flat out stated similarities between ashton and fcg and some people's responses have been. unfortunately enlightening.#some who claimed FCG was going to sacrifice themselves/destroy others in the grand disc and were pretty vile about a hypothetical#are quick to paint ashton in a light so sympathetic it demands no one else feel any emotions#Ashton even states his shittiness about the changebringer was bc he thought this would lead FCG to do...exactly what he did with the titans#really it brings us back to a core question: is it action or is it intent. the answer is both but action matters more.#but also. much more bluntly. some of you have never either fucked up real bad or had a friend do so huh.#this felt extremely true to life; that's really it in the end.

Pain is being an ulquihime shipper but having to block/avoid most of them because they are weirdly anti-Orihime, anti-bleach ending, or "anti how Kubo wrote Orihime" even though she's one of the most consistently and well-written female characters in Shounen as well as the fact that they try to make Ulquiorra care more about Orihime than he actually did in the manga or even god forbid try to say that Ulquiorra cared more about Orihime than Ichigo did.
#rainbow talking#bleach#orihime inoue#ulquiorra cifer#I'm tired i'm so tired this is suffering#this is what suffering looks like#i'm screaming into the void rn bc like#you dont have to woobify or babygirl-ify Ulquiorra#ulquiorra shiffer#Ulquihime works so well because it's someone who has no emotions and someone who wears her heart on her sleeve#He didn't truly care about Orihime until he was dying and realized what it meant to have a heart#that's also part of what makes the ship so tragic#he finally discovered the meaning and answer but wasn't able to appreciate it fully#idk if any other ulquihime shipper feels this way#probably just me considering the current state of the fandom but ugghhhh#its so hard to enjoy a ship when it is so painfully clear people don't like the other half of it#like many of them don't actually like Orihime with Ulquiorra they like THEIR IDEA OF ORIHIME with Ulquiorra#and I understand fanon =/= canon#and im not gunna sit here and say fanart and theories and analysis have to be fully lore accurate#but it is painfully obvious some of you are taking the worst possible interpretation#of Orihime as a character and twisting Ichigo into someone who didn't actually care bout Orihime to that degree#while at the same time shipping him with R**** and Orihime with Ulquiorra#i normally dont censor character names but I did this time since it ain't entirely her fans... but sadly a lot of them are#like “”Ulquirra tried to protect Orihime from Ichigo“” no he didn't#he knew about her powers for rejection and planted the seed of doubt that she couldn't heal him#hell EVEN HE questions who tf that is when Ichigo rises in his VL state#as far as he was concerned Ichigo was dead as a doorknob

DANG. Absolutely cold-blooded.
#I’d expect a zinger like that outta reggie any day but dilton?#did not see that coming in a million years#he’s choosing an insult OVER answering a question in class correctly?#what did archie DO to motivate this??#archie comics#dilton doiley#archie andrews#mr. flutesnoot#really though you can’t answer the original question without knowing exactly how many gallons archie’s horrible car can hold#my real question is where dilton got 8.342 from#I was expecting it to equal some natural number like 1 or 2 but when I did the calculations it equaled 2.2072932 gallons#I double checked my work with the internet and recieved 2.2037233 gallons instead#I’m almost certain this is a result of mr. flutesnoot rounding his provided number of gallons by several decimal places#so that I calculated the conversion with one liter equaling 0.264 gallons rather than 0.264172 gallons#of course when I checked it again with my own calculator I got 2.203722824 which is closer to but not quite 2.2037233#because even if you rounded it so that a three would follow the two you’re still left with ‘230’ rather than ‘233’ at that one part#so the more accurate values I found must still be rounded by some amount to cause the discrepancy#at ANY rate: unless I have missed something in my calulations the number 8.342 has no particular significance#this isn’t lightning-fast mental math. dilton just made that number up on the spot#and the specificity only exists to make him sound smarter#(and it kinda worked because I did initially assume there was some meaning behind the number)#the joke might have landed better if he’d have said ‘3.785 liters’ (exactly 1 gallon)#UNLESS the gas prices at the time happened to work out so that 2.2037233 gallons equaled exactly one dollar or someth—

the downside to being a sitcom neighbour sort of person is that when rough things happen and emotionally fuck u up a lil bit, it also sounds completely made up

roleplay idea: barton's trying to say this BS that he's 'good at processing grief' when your muse was a witness to the absolute rage-filled and deranged rampage that barton went on after julien was killed by the joker in which he brutally hurt all but one of his henchmen (he killed the last one because he told him he was 'crazy' and that he 'better kill him, or he was going to tell his boss that barton had been there' and he literally just snapped, went 'you know what, i think i will kill you AND also let the joker know i killed you so he knows to never come near my family again' then killed him. like HUHHH?) at the time with your muse being like this
#OF MONSTERS AND MEN: musings.#ooc post.#yeahhh 💀 man i wish i was joking about this you all but he really did put like three men in the hospital and killed one of them so...#he is NOT good at processing grief at all SKSKS and yeah the fact that they chose to ally themselves with the joker probably does say-#something about their own character but i don't condone violence or murder so it's still wrong even if they were... terrible 🫠#no but barton was honestly looking for someone else to blame besides himself for julien's death so he basically went to all of these-#henchmen and grilled them + asked them all whether they knew anything about how the joker was planning to kill his son#anddd when they all answered him with a 'no' was when thing's uhhh. Got violent 😬 like just imagine being one of barton's kids-#and mourning the loss of your brother in a normal albeit sad way on your own but then barton comes back home covered in blood-#+ it's obviously not his... like i don't even know if i'd want to ask him what the hell he just did because while barton is in mourning-#or grieving you do NOT want to be near him if you are the one that caused the death in question because you will get your-#shit rocked let me tell you ☠️ like the only reason why barton didn't kill the joker himself is BC he knew that that would attract-#batman's ire like nothing else and he does NOT want that smoke as much as barton hates him LMAO but DC muses... just to let you know-#or really any type of muse that interacts with him but those who are close to him in particular i would not touch a hair on any of his#family members head unless you want to have someone after you + i swear i'm not saying that to be edgy or anything BC ever since i#first mentioned that barton is always this 🤏 close to going off of the deep end even more than he already is i was not joking at all ASDFGH#tw: mentions of violence#tw: mentions of murder#tw: mentions of child death

#I know he's just making conversation but my work enemy does not have the right to ask me every day what I did last night#and what I'm doing tonight#like does a girl have any right to privacy around here?#I'm not accountable to you. also my answers are boring and the same. ate dinner and talked on the phone what do you want from me?????#also started teasing me for how often my answer has been ''go to the grocery store''#because apparently it's weird that I buy groceries and cook food????#and like we're kinda friends but also not through much choice of my own. in the fact that he stops by my desk most days to chat#but by that nature I am trapped here and have no power in when the conversation starts and ends#and am forced to answer whatever small talk–esque questions he dishes out because I have no social script for not doing that#occasionally I have drawn a line and been like ''I don't have to tell you that''#when he's asked me about things which might seem innocent but require context which I prefer not to get into as part of my worksona#I guess what's annoying is that he pushes past my attempts to deflect or dodge questions and just keeps pushing#like it's some kind of game even when I'm pointedly like ''I'm not going to tell you that''#and none of it is outside the realm of normal conversation on the surface but like. dude.#I don't have to tell you what dating apps I have used or the exact circumstance of how I met my boyfriend#or even what I did over the weekend if I don't want to!!!! And it's not a crime to ask those things#but it is a crime to keep asking when I deflect and also while standing at my desk and trapping me in the conversation#within earshot of the rest of the office!!#and the fact that he asks me follow up questions and follow up questions narrows the topics that I'm willing to get into with him#and it's like. I know he's just trying to be friends and for the most part is fun and nice to me#so it feels like there's no normal way I can be like 'dude. leave me alone.' without escalating inappropriately

one time like a year ago a giant hornet (?) got into my apartment and i managed to get it out the door but then an hour later it was somehow back in?? and i don’t even live in that apartment anymore but it haunts me to this day because i still don’t know how it got in either time and i never will
#idk for sure if it was a hornet but i know it was a HUGE flying bug#and i think about it all the time#like first of all idk how it got into the apartment in the first place#bc my roommate had left that morning so that was the only time the door would’ve been open#but even then that would just be the door to the hallway. not to outside#and it would’ve only been open for like 5 seconds#and it was HUGE so theoretically he would’ve noticed if it had flown in#anyways so then i get it out the door that leads outside#and it’s POSSIBLE i didn’t actually get it out when i thought i did. but then why would it wait an hour to start flying around again#like it felt like it just appeared right next to my face an hour later#and if it had been around before then i would’ve known bc it was LOUD#i remember that morning i heard a distant buzzing when i woke up#and as soon as i opened my bedroom door it was much louder bc this huge bug was circling the living room#which brings us back to how the fuck did it get in#there were big bugs in that apartment sometimes because part of the door was broken#so i taped it so they couldn’t get in and that mostly stopped the giant spiders and other bugs#and the hornet was definitely post-tape#AND i remember the second time i got it outside it was flying into the window like it was trying to get back in#so how did it get in and what the fuck was inside that it wanted so bad#guys. this haunts me and i will never get answers to any of these questions.#iirc like a day later i was in the leasing office for a completely different reason#and there was someone there that was over because HIS apartment was infested with hornets#but it was a completely different building than mine#so what the fuck was going on with these hornets#i hate bugs so much why do they terrorize me specifically
