I feel like some people really overlook Todd's trauma and it bothers me a lot. I saw someone say forever ago that he was "too whiny" for them in the book and that REALLY bothered me...

Cause like, it's cannon that Todd's father outright - point blank - told him at a young age that he would only be as valuable as the chemicals in his body bottled up and soild raw unless he became something "worth while". Like, I'm sorry, I'd be too whiny too if my father said those words to me, excuse my baby boy for being severely traumatized!!

That's so crazy to say... Like the author gave us more depth to Todd's character and more weight to his arc and they thought that made him whiny! Huh??? Especially cause it makes it even more sad when you think about how heartbreaking it is that Todd was able to stand the societal pressures cause he's so used to them that he became desensitized to them at all young age while Neil wasn't because (personal headcannon/analysis, I swear to Jesus if someone tries me on this I'll explode) he wasn't exposed to such parental behaviors until he was in high school (to me, personally, based on previously stated info about Todd's family and what we can infer from the other Poets, Mr. Perry was a generally good father until the pressure was on (from society and the system) for Neil to amount to something (ie high school age cause that's when you tend to start thinking about careers) but this isn't about the Perry's, it's about Todd, back on track)

This poor boy spent his whole life in his brother's shadow. Todd's grades weren't initially good enough for Welton, meanwhile Jeffrey was one of Welton's best. The pressure for greatness was a constant for Todd. He was always being told he wasn't good enough and that he'd never be good enough. Todd was simply not as good academically as Jeffrey, he could never, no matter how hard he tried, apply himself enough to even be close to his older brother. And you know his father never let him forget that. (Infer what you may from that, it's mostly what I mean)

Bottom line, Todd deserves more attention, we talk a lot about Neil's trauma but never enough about Todd's, he likely had the worst family out of everyone else

u just get like a glimpse of whats around them; so maybe if ur lucky ull get a glimpse of their desk and they have homework on it and u see their name on it, like that could be it; but generally its just glimpses of what they're around

see the thing is

neil's glimpses r so vague and so specific -- vague becuz he initially doesn't notice anything interesting about them (other than a bookshelf w/ his soulmates sexy literature interest); specific becuz he overheard jeffrey anderson talking to his friends and the things he was referencing about his house.... are insanely familiar

and the thing is jeff anderson is like the golden boy of welton; well likes and smart and all that;;; so neil should be happy, but neil doesn't want it to be him, and he feels like a dick but there's just something about him

or maybe it has nothing to do with jeff and everything to do with the cute blond he keeps on running into when he goes to town; the one who goes to their rival school at balincrest, who stuttered out a quiet 'todd' when neil asked for his name, the one who's smiles, shy and hesitant as they are, fill neil's veins with fire; and yet the fire doesn't burn just warms him

maybe he really secretly wants it to be todd; so he's sad that jeff's house looks so much like his soulmate's and that the things neil saw in his glimpses are things jeff knows about

he wishes todd knew about them instead

Do you think Jeffrey tried to tell them "he's just a kid."? Do you think the pair would lay for hours under the oak tree in their yard, sun bringing out the tiniest of freckles dotting both of their faces? Do you think Jeffrey would wake up at the crack of dawn on Christmas morning to sneak a couple extra presents for Todd under the tree, so he's feel included? Happy? Loved?

Do you think that Jeffrey's heart sank with Todd's when he received that phone call in December? Do you think his forehead crinkled in the same way Todd's did when he told him his roommate was dead? Do you think Jeffrey talked to him for hours, listened to him cry for hours? Then booked the first flight to Vermont?

Do you think Jeffrey tried to be a good brother, tried, really tried?

my favorite thing about fics where jeff is a cool older brother is you can tell who has siblings and who doesn’t depending how he’s written

the fact that todd’s mum introduces him as “our youngest” implies that he is not the younger out of two brothers, but the youngest of several siblings.

and the fact that mr nolan and everyone else only talks about jeffrey, implies that todd’s other older sibling (or siblings) is a sister and therefore didn’t attend welton

more about french andersons:

— jeffrey and todd grew up in a bilingual family their mother wanted them to speak her national language, so she spoke to them in both french and english when they were little. oh, she also sang to them in french, french lullabies <3

— they know french as good as english, the whole family speak both languages at home, it depends on their mood, sometimes they just mix it together (bonjour y’all vibes)

— jeff randomly starts speaking french when he’s very excited, on other side todd speaks french when he’s pissed off

— the poets didn’t know about todd being half french unless once when jeffrey came to visit him at welton they started to argue in french

— they still don’t know about what they were arguing, but they were absolutely amazed that the anderson brothers know how to speak french

— since the poets know that todd can speak french:

charlie asks todd how to say random words in french like fuck, but also like mirror, basement or global warming

knox asks him to translate the poems he writes to charlie chris in french, because french is more romantic

meeks is the one who started studying french because of todd, he likes learning new things, and the fact that the could speak with todd and todd would help him with the pronunciation of the words? just amazing.

cameron found out that todd speaking french is a really really relaxing sound, his voice is calming, so when he’s too stressed about school him and todd just lay in the bed and todd tells him about the day or about something from his childhood/past, he won’t understand anyway (give me some cameron + todd content, i love them)

pitts and todd started listen together to french songs, sometimes pitts asks him what the song is about, sometimes they just sit there and listen drinking hot chocolate ((i love french music))

and finally neil who is simply amazed about the french thing. once he and todd get into a fight, todd started talking to him in french (cause he was frustrated), neil just started at him and he forget why he was mad at him. he find the french language extremely hot ((just like me))

just wanted to say that i’m not french, i do not speak french, but yes i’m totally obsessed with this language and rn duolingo wants to kill my family bc I won’t do his lessons, anywayyy part 2???

au where jeff’s only a little older than todd and todd and jeff have a close relationship so todd’s over at welton every now and then and he meets neil (i know this is like 80% of my jeff anderson aus and 75% of my precanon anderperry aus but bear with me)

neil’s gets a big fat crush on him and ya know

he hangs out with todd whenever he’s there and he kinda knows jeff now too only becuz of that

so one day he’s there, doodling in his notebook (”neil anderson”) and someone sees it and like its not like todd’s a student here 

he only comes now and then to hang out iwht his brother for like 5 minutes and then get whisked away by neil

so they just see anderson and rumor spreads that neil’s got a thing for jeff and it gets back to the jeff anderson and jeff’s like ‘wait im like a solid 3% sure my brother’s got a thing for neil so i need to not only turn neil down but also guide him towards todd’

so jeff spends days upon days trying to hint to neil that there’s a better anderson for him

and like neil’s so confused as to whats going on

and he talks to charlie about it and charlie’s confused to becuz like both of them really just see jeff as todd’s (or neil’s crush's) older brother so the idea that jeff thinks that neil could like him doesn’t even cross his mind

and in the end todd comes over and hears that neil’s got a thing for an anderson and at first he’s like ‘omg what if its jeff’ but then he’s like ‘omg what if its me’ and he’s like how do i find this out 

so its just a long long time of neil trying to confess to todd, todd trying to figure out which anderson neil likes, and jeff trying to turn neil down whilst also setting him up with his brother
