yeah, that jk simmons as ford voice clip at the charity stream was pretty funny and i do love it but man do i wish they used him for something a bit more... genuine? instead of some silly 'reading thirst tweets and taking them at face value' they made him do. like... an update on the stan o' war II or... or something else that doesn't feel so... superfluous?

like damn, first time hearing ford's voice in a while and it's for this? i dunno man, i kinda wanted to hear how Ford's doing post canon more than that suggestive joke about his fingers...

but it's not like i can really expect anything else out of the man who leaned into b.llf.rd to draw in viewers and thought those viewers would just believe him when he said it wasn't canon so who am i to say anything?

i guess i can't be too mad when they kept him autistic/asexual as hell about the comments though. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

i would like to say my ideal PJO adaptation (if i was being physically forced against my will to have to pick a live action adaptation over an animated one for some reason) would be a combo like writing of the musical + casting of the show + visuals of the movies

BUT the show actually does have the playwright for the musical as one of the major writers for like three episodes and that did nothing for it. so...

#pjo #riordanverse #pjo tv crit #i do love the casting for the musical lots and lots though #it was really good #i do also have some nitpicks for show casting but they're largely inconsequential #like majority i very much enjoy and think are cast well #i only have one i'd say im actually disappointed with and that's Poseidon. idk he just feels. bland??? does that make sense?#like idk maybe it's the costuming but im not getting Sea God *or* Fishing Dad from him #like i think i kinda see what they were going for and i saw some gifs of him in another show where he plays a pirate and its like #okay. *little* bit better. but idk im just not getting Poseidon from it #in general most of the immortals in the show dont feel very Immortal(tm) but thats definitely mostly just the writing/show itself #not any reflection of the casting #my only other two are i would have liked plus sized Clarisse. i am VERY sad we didnt get that #Dior is a VERY good Clarisse though so i'm not too upset about it. i like her Clarisse energy. the yelling is fantastic.#my most controversial pjo tv take is im still meh on Walker. like he's fine. but like he's kind of Just Fine to me so far #its probably mostly the writing being bad but he hasnt grown on me as Percy yet. i can tell he has the energy though in interviews n stuff #and the main trio dynamic in interviews and stuff is *very* good. i just wish the show writing was better #because the casting IS very good but they have so little to work with. you can really tell theyre trying their best #i like to joke the show would be better if they just set the cast loose in the woods doing in-character improv #like its clear basically all of them know their characters SUPER well. id watch 8 episodes of in the woods pjo cosplay improv.

now that i'm playing dragon age: veilguard i understand hbomberguy so much better. think i could probably do a 3.5 hours long video called "dragon age: the veilguard is FINE and here's why"

#the writing in dragon age has Always been a bit clunky it's part of the charm #but yes there are sections in DAV that made me go “oh nooo”#but no it isn't as bad as people say #the mechanics are fun idc. it's bad that my new laptop can run all of BG3 fine but becomes laggy as hell in any city location in DAV tho #companions r generally charming and they're all professionals so it makes sense they're less prone to big fights than say DAO morrigan #but yes i do miss having a bit more tension in the party sometimes #the character creator is great for dudes but yea it would probably b cool if it were possible to have curvier bodies for those who want tha #but no it isn't literally impossible to make good-looking rooks. it's quite easy actually #and like yeah you can't have wildly out there body types but it's pretty cool that you can be a geralt type a twink or chubby as a dude #(i play male characters and have only done the female cc once for a custom f!inquisitor so i have more experience w that one)#the qunari also look. fine? the antaam don't look too soft or anything so far #the majority of complaints against this game were stupid and not rooted in anything real #BUT!!! i don't love it #solas continues to be a highlight #lucanis is great so far and i love neve #neve's voice acting is amazing #she manages to make some very disappointing lines sound good #but..... i can't pretend the writing *isn't* awkward in places #d'meta's crossing stands out to me as a pretty bad case of overly direct storytelling #(spoilers) talking to the mayor was deeply disappointing! he just TOLD rook what he did and why. it felt so anticlimactic #especially bc the imagery in the village was striking and grotesque #but there didn't feel like there was any payoff #other sections have been great #but DAV just feels like it completely lacks subtlety at times #the other DA games haven't always been masters of show dont tell but this section felt like a first draft #like someone was working out the story and didn't have time to polish the script at all before the voice actors were called in #idk it really stands out to me as bad #also yeah it's noticeable that you don't really get to do evil things. at least not yet

my resolution for this year was to learn hiragana and katakana (not even japanese as a whole. just. some characters.) and i figured i'd learn how to write my name bc it'd be embarrassing if i didn't know how to do that and is it just me or does it look kinda cute. like, レービ <- that's like U_U* or -_-* to me

#ive acquired a 2nd hand textbook so i think i'll also actually learn the language a bit in a slow manner bc that will obvs support #learning the characters #u might be wondering why my plans are the characters only #it's bc i want to keep my goals small so if something happens or i get busy i can still manage it and i won't be disappointed #also by telling myself i'm only learning the characters i have zero pressure to learn anything so i will learn things out of pure curiosity #which means i'll have fun and actually learn things instead of stressing #kinda regretting it's the writing system that turned me off from learning it like a decade ago #bc if it weren't for that- i'd now be able to play ooe 😔#also i do still want to learn polish but i need a break to also give myself 0 expectations so i won't burn myself out learning languages #i think 4 languages is a good amount. i can forget swedish and spanish it's fine #im finnish so obvs i know finnish. english and swedish were mandatory to learn in school. and i also took spanish. taking a 4th language #is super common so idk i feel a bit inadequate speaking only 2 languages well #but i think my goal of speaking 2 well and then 2 a bit less well is doable. and i'm not talking about this being a goal of idk a year #or two but something i will very slowly work towards so it stays fun and me being curious is what will lead this instead of pressure #if that makes sense #ahh anyways this is soo besides the point #my focus is on reading & listening #though jpn and fin have Really similar sounds so listening will not b a problem #leevi talks

#astros old art #miraculous ladybug #marinette dupain cheng #ml tikki #I remember seeing this one video called ladybug pv back in like 2012 and me being a huge fan of magical girl anime I wanted to see more #so imagine my surprise when I found out they were making it into an actual tv show lmao #when the final version came out I was a teeny bit disappointed it was in 3d and not in beautiful 2d like that vid from all those years ago #found out a few friends were also fans so I kept watching with them tho i eventually dropped the show somewhere around the 3rd season #ehh idk I kinda wish they stuck to the 2d art style and some of the stuff like the characters are kinda...yeah...but it is what it is lol #heard the movie was alright tho and nicely animated so I might eventually get around to watching that ^^
