“Read on a manuscript about a foreign stinging bush covered in tiny needle-like hairs, the slightest touch will embed the skin and inject a strong toxin, causing an intense pain that will intensify within 20 and 30 minutes after the contact. The needles will remain in the skin of the victim even for a year and touch in the affected area will trigger the release of the toxin. The victim will continue to suffer even months after the initial contact, and it’s likely that they will end up taking their own life.
I'm trying to get samples but I don't want to draw their attention to myself. It will be a future project, I suppose.”
“Hair needles are too big, but there must be a way to translate its mechanism into combat. Perhaps—"

Call of Duty related
@yeyinde writes absolute poetry, especially for John Price of Call of Duty but you can find many other gems on Lev's blog
I really enjoy @sprout-fics and her Könix x Maus series
@cowboybxtch is a headcanon master for Call of Duty
@mykneeshurt writes great Call of Duty related stories
and cannot forget the complete excellence that is @nsharks and her bleeding blue series (Ghost apocalypse AU)
Resident Evil related (mostly Leon)
first that comes to mind is @uhlunaro with her attention-grabbing writing and storytelling about Leon (and Luis)
@that-sarcastic-writer has gems (aka say it)
@sullyslover and @vnswrld write excellent stories
recently found out about @meowsiee and her fic ideas are absolute fire
Others that I love

Happy Queer Media Monday!
Today: Consecrated Ground by Virginia Black
This randomly came up today, and actually, it goes really well with the season.
(The book cover, showing a crow.)
Consecrated Ground is an independently published horror novel. In its world, vampires have taken over everything, and are kind of holding humanity hostage for their blood. Opposing them are witches: Binder witches spell the earth to protect it and keep vampires from entering, while battle witches travel around and actively fight the monsters.
Joan Matthews comes from a long line of binder witches, but defied all tradition when she left her home and became a battle witch instead. Now, many years later, she returns to her hometown to bury her father. What she finds is a town besieged by vampires, the magic barricade failing in unheard of ways, and the leaders of the town fighting among each other. She also finds her ex-girlfriend, Leigh Phan, who has her own secrets. Using all her magical knowledge, Joan throws herself into the fight, trying to protect the town she was born in.
It is a well-written book, with a good writing style, and a story that keeps you captivated. Often, independent books are so wonderfully imperfect (affectionate), but with Consecrated Ground, I had at no point the feeling that anything could be changed to improve the quality. The story goes some rather dark places and has this overlying tone of quiet despair and claustrophobia, as the vampires close in on the little, mostly deserted, town.
I have done a review of this book for Queer SciFi, which you can find here. The book is available on Amazon.
Queer Media Monday is an action I started to talk about some important and/or interesting parts of our queer heritage, that people, especially young people who are only just beginning to discover the wealth of stories out there, should be aware of. Please feel free to join in on the fun and make your own posts about things you personally find important!
#I now see that the author has two more books out?#based on this one#definitely worth checking out#books#horror#Consecrated Ground#Virginia Black#queer books#lesbian#getting back together#Black protagonist#Queer Media Monday

Next up is the double bingo recipient, @dominimoonbeam! I actually read quite a few of your fics in the span of working on my project (if you're interested in seeing the others). For now, I'll still with the one that scored highest!
I still have a few more from your catalog on my list that I want to reread and do cards/sheets for (Like some of your Asher/Damien pieces AGH /pos). I hope you enjoy this!
Part 2 of the Redacted Fic Final!
Fic Bingo Cards / Spectrum Sheets
"PK, what are you talking about?" So glad you asked, random reader!
(First off: If you don't know what I'm talking about at all, you should probably start with Part 1)
Every fic submission I read (and/or will read will) received a bingo card and "spectrum sheet" (idk what else to call it /lh). This is how I "ranked"/"analyzed" each of them without doing something like a tier system or numerical value. The bingo spaces were created before I read any of the fics and were catered specifically to Redacted fic tropes/habits/etc. I'd noticed in the past. The spectrum sheet is more so focused on examining the relationship at play in each fic (specifically in a romantic context given the focus on the project was on romantic relationships).
Note: I'm not 100% sure how to go about advertising this part? Like if an author wants to see their card/sheet, I'm more than happy to share! But if the author isn't aware I read their fic/someone submitted one of their fics, should I tag them? Or is that weird? Idk if anyone has suggestions, please leave them in the comments/tags/reblogs /gen /lh
That aside, using the lovely @angelicaether's fic Spark and Bite as an example/so y'all can see what we were working with:
For any authors who submitted fics to me directed and/or know I read a fic of theirs and would like to see their card/sheet, let me know!
#Fun fact: One of my all time favorite Redacted fics was also written by Domini!#It's called “It's Saturday” and I would kill for it /lh /pos#Definitely worth checking out#mdni

I said this to a friend earlier and I thought I'd say it here too in case anyone else needs to see it:
Constantly checking election maps will accomplish nothing besides making you more anxious. It will take a while for counts to be finalized, and there is nothing to be gained from giving yourself a multi-day anxiety attack by checking for updates every 10 minutes
You've done what you can. The votes have all been cast, and now all we can do is wait. Making yourself miserable by checking for updates and worrying constantly will do no good and will benefit no one. Take the time between now and the final call to rest, and to take care of yourself and your loved ones. However this turns out, you'll be better off for having given yourself as much of a break as possible
#us politics#2024 elections#i know this is easier said than done but i promise it's worth the effort#there is nothing to be gained from worrying about something that's out of your hands#i'm not saying you can't or shouldn't be worried. i'm definitely worried!#but i also know that certain things (like checking election maps) *really* heightens my anxiety while accomplishing nothing#and therefore it's in my best interest to Not Do Those Things#that's all

Back Pain 💥
[id: A sketch of a fox lying on the ground. It's back is facing the camera, and a long, jagged line runs along where it's spine should be. /end id]

About your latest Zelda post. You can also emulate Zelda games if you don’t have access to a certain console or can’t afford old games. I played minish cap and wind waker hd entirely on my laptop. Of course if you don’t have access to a computer/laptop this is completely irrelevant but I feel obligated to mention it since it’s so easy and I love both Zelda games and game emulation
I did the same thing with minis cap!!! I totally forgot to mention it so thanks for bringing it up!!!
#ANON THANK YOU!!#What I want the most is to share thus awesome series as much as I can so this was a really great thing to find in my inbox#There’s a ton of emulators out there it’s definitely worth checking out!!#legends of zelda#anons my beloved

with the year coming to a close, i hope that anyone who's reflecting about how the year went remembers to be kind and fair to themselves with how you evaluate the year as a whole.
i think there are definitely times when life throws things that are... Not So Great at you. whether if it's some external circumstance that surprised you, or maybe your mentality wasn't at it's best. i wish for anyone who's encountered those kinds of challenges to be able to triumph over them and be able to say that they got through it.
heck, it might still be a work in progress even though you've kept chipping away at it, and that's ok! the results will show themselves eventually as you work through it! and i hope that we can all remember to be patient with ourselves as we go through these processes (learning, healing, etc.), because damn, it can be frustrating when you feel like you're "not there yet."
knowing that life can be rough at times, i think it's unfair to yourself (and others) to discount and downplay any progress you've made this year- whether if it's something that you did for the first time, or maybe you came to a new understanding and insight that you didn't have in the previous year.
it's not to say that you should undermine the validity of your experience with hardship, but to take the time to remind yourself what makes life worth living. to recall what moments were the most satisfying to you- and use it to strengthen your resolve for the next year and beyond. no amount of hardship will ever take away from the fact that you deserve to have hope that things will get better.
i hope that looking back on the year, you don't leave out the things you cherish. that you can remember the good that came this year. whether if the small victories are things like meeting someone new, trying something out for the first time, or making some strides in a long-term project/obligation...!
i wish everyone a happy new year! may it be prosperous, and that your life can move in a direction that's close to what you want out of life. you're all going to do great! remember to congratulate yourself for what you did well! despite everything, you're still here, and that's wonderful. never forget that!
#lizzy speaks#hello everyone. i know that there are *checks calendar* still 20 days left of december and 2023#but i've had a lot of strong emotions and feelings i've had to sort through as i've been thinking about how 2023 went for me#so a lot of what i've written here comes from the perspective of someone in their early 20s#it's like... a crash and burn from when you were a teenager thinking that you know everything#and realizing how big the world is and how many responsibilities there are#all while a feeling of overwhelm looms over as you try to sift your way through the world and adjust your understanding of it#for me i've definitely had an underlying thought that 'you should have your shit together by now why aren't you there yet'#and it's! not motivating! at all! to think that way. and it's made me more than ever want to be a friend to myself. to extend a patient-#kind voice to myself that reminds me that others are also trying to navigate these feelings and to accept that i'm not going to have an-#instantaneous understanding of how one goes about adulthood. and neither will they. even if they look 'put together.'#like... these people have also undergone similar stresses and along the way figured out how to navigate through that space#and personally i've found peace in knowing that there are people who are older than me. trusting that they've dealt with these things too i#some shape or form and that them living... being here.. is proof that we shall be fine in the end and that we will move past what plagues-#our mind. there's definitely been some... anger i've had this year that. school didnt teach me these things or skills!! i was so mad lol#but hey if we are little guys who are living on planet earth for the first time we shouldn't condemn ourselves to an unrealistic standard-#of going through life and being able to instantly do everything 'correctly' and know how everything works#i'm still working on improving that patience... and also trying to put in the work to understand these things.#in the midst of a very tough week for me i was tempted to say that 'nothing happened this year it was not productive'#but then i was like. that's. objectively not true if you just look at other things. also theres worth in life outside of 'productivity'#...i think i passed 20 tags at this point. but like. my favorite thing about 2023 was meeting so many cool awesome people!#who would've known that funny lil squid game could bring so many connections and friendships i cherish!#thank you so much! for being a part of my life and changing me for the better! for giving me many fond memories!#and i'm very grateful to anyone who supported me and my art this year... for sticking around even though i wished i could do more#it means the world to me knowing that there's proof that i exist and have touched someone's life in a positive way! thank you! truly!#ANYWAY. happy early new year. i hope everyone can nourish a friend in their head that extends acceptance and patience to themselves#as we try and make sense of the world together. there will be things that we don't understand yet! but one day we will! and it'll be like#wow! look how far i came! i'm okay! i'm alive! yipee! thank you for reading this post i made to get my feelings out! have a nice day!

a large amount of time I've been spending on -untitled undefined scope original fiction project- since the last time I posted about it has been trying to develop the protagonist concept I came up with last summer or whatever into like, a character that would feel real and era appropriate.
it's fun research to do. naturally a lot of the details I assigned to her are things that I already think are cool, so it's been a lot of fun trying to trace her traits back through the relatively recent past, getting reminded of how much things have changed, or where the gaps in my intuition are, and then doing a flurry of reading to get a sense for exactly how someone like her and the people around her could have happened and what her life was probably like leading up to her present day. hopefully this results in some good good verisimilitude.
#I wrote a short story from her perspective over the holidays and then didn't know how to continue it#and then I got distracted by real life stuff for a few months#I forget if I posted about that#and then I've been picking through archive dot org for the last few weeks looking at this stuff#the last big rabbit hole was trying to get a better feel for era appropriate ts/tv subculture#the current one I'm looking at is how she would've gotten into language learning and how that would've worked#nettle has been prodding me about the setting thing lately so I've been thinking about that more too#probably the biggest hurdle by far is figuring out how I want to play that#and how I want the thing to be divided up#since the original coc scenario I'm developing this out of is centered on a flight from LA to honolulu#and the airport dungeon was definitely meant to be a hook for a larger campaign#some amount of it is going to cover protag lady's failed life in LA and some of it is going to be worse things happening in hawaii#but it's like. how much do I want to balance it one way or the other#and realistically how much does the aesthetics of 20th century air travel add to the story#besides me personally thinking it's compelling ofc#a lot of what I find compelling about hawaii is that it's an east/west cultural crossroads and realistically that's also true of socal#and I can wax poetic about socal as much as I want without worrying all that much about mishandling something#and there's also a lot of socal specific history along similar parallels to pull from that I'm more familiar with#I guess it comes down to whether curiosity re: 'doing it right' is enough of a motivator to do the increased amount of research#which I guess it has so far with the above character details. so hopefully that will continue#but it also feels like using machine translation a bit yknow. it's hard to know how effectively I'll be able to sanity check#although depending on where this goes I might be able to get other people involved to sensitivity read down the line#with most of the creative things I do I just have a tendency to always rely really heavily on figuring things out myself#I also want protag lady to have a Cool Car and idk how to get that from point a to point b narratively#this is like an entire second or third post's worth of tags but I don't feel like unfucking this so whatever. suffer. I guess.

I've been meaning to watch Jujutsu Kaisen. What got you watching? I just finished season one of Delicious in Dungeon.
Ahhh I’ve been watching/ reading it since the first season! I originally got into JJK because of Gojo… I didn’t even know who he was but I remember scrolling on twitter and seeing someone with a cropped closeup of Gojo’s face from vol. 4? But I remember being too shy to ask this person who he was/ what series was he from lol. I remember seeing the art and thinking “not to sound weird but I really love how this guys teeth is drawn…” and so, I reversed image searched the drawing and wala!
This was a few months before S1 had even gotten announced, too. I remember pulling up the manga and reading a few pages and not getting all that far (I was being lazy tbh.) but then, the anime had gotten announced and I was like “wait, isn’t this the series that I just found out about a couple of months ago??? It looks fun :0!!!” But even then, I still hadn’t started on reading it until after the second episode was released lmfao.
I actually ended up binging the manga in one night and at the time, there were only about 50ish chapters available so I was literally fiending for more if I’m being real 😭… I was so crazwkskakal. I wasn’t too nuts about Gojo originally (I was definitely a FAN but I remember being so normal about him during S1’s original run lmfao. The things I’ve said about that man… I’m a Gojo girl unfortunately….. I’m still kind of normal about him though. He’s a very well written character and deserves all of the love he gets as a character kakakak. It’s so easy to like him!
I do tend to stay away from fandoms in general (I’ve done this ever since I’d started to use social media) but especially regarding the fans of the stuff I actually enjoy. Outside of the classics like Naruto (always in my heart…) and such, I haven’t really enjoyed a new age shounen and series this much with my whole heart since JJBA (not new age but you get it) and if you’ve been following this blog for a while then you must know that I used to be such a huge fan of it! (I still am but I’ve calmed down… I miss it a whole lot actually. I still have to catch up with JoJolands… haven’t gotten that far tbh.)
DM is fun but I haven’t gotten all that far into the manga (only ever read the first chapter and that was years ago) but I watched the first 12 or so episodes and I really enjoyed them! Haven’t looked back (it’s hard to keep up with anime… and the fans make me not want to interact with it as much tbh…. JJK is diff since i genuinely adore it and I don’t interact with the fans at all anyway outside of a few mutuals/friends and I pretend everything else doesn’t exist 😭…… JJK fans are so 👎🏾 but I’m already invested so it’s a little too late for me to turn back 🫨.)
#tkf replies#sorry for rambling 😭#anonymous#jjk is def a lot… it’s not your usual shounen since it is relatively dark (it’s known as the dark three as well alongside csm and i think#hell’s paradise but I haven’t gotten too far into that even tho I really wanted to check that out…)#but jjk… you’ll def enjoy it if you ignore the fans/fandom in gen#the characters have a lot of depth and heart to them!#it’s very sad and depressing though because gege isn’t afraid of pulling the trigger and killing off his characters at all so that’s that…#and jjk is essentially a horror story as well which is really awesome and quite refreshing for a shounen tbh#similar to csm#I’m not selling it as hard but it’s definitely worth the read and watch! jjk definitely deserves all of the#praise that it’s heavily recieved over the last couple of years and I would not say this for something that isn’t worth it 😭#you should read the manga ahhh!!!

The progression. First, run from pool. Then be very uncertain about it. Then, only partly unwilling swimming
#when i called her from the other side and had a squeaky toy she came very enthusiastically#definitely worth the hour drive i think#everyone was so nice! and she was big about stopping before it got too exhausting/unfun#and making sure misty was as comfortable as she could be#and not rushing her too quickly to the water. we walked around the pool a couple times first and checked out the toys and such#the instructor was so great about keeping it a positive experience even though misty was a bit unsure/unhappy at times#i would strongly recommend this place to anyone. such a good experience#next time we're going to work on being excited/motivated for a toy instead of treats...#going to have to find something extra special that floats and only bring it out for this#she likes to play but she's really not toy driven... may be difficult#the instructor thought maybe her flirt pole would work so tbd#whippet#misdemeanor#dogblr#petblr#swimming
