telepathy kink is always talked about but i loveee the way erik's relationship with charles' mutation is dependant on how much he trusts charles + how willing he would be to submit to charles should he ever use it. like in first class charles spends time flicking in and out of erik's head no issue because erik trusts charles and also when charles was in erik's head, he brought out a piece of happiness that erik no longer thought he had. so he's more willing to submit to charles' telepathy. and he puts the helmet on because he's more vulnerable directly after killing the man who was such a direct source of violence in his life and realizing that it wasn't enough—which probably shook erik to his core, because his whole life he's been hunting this one guy just to find that it's not over yet?

and then in days of future past, erik once again goes back to saying 'i don't have my helmet i couldn't disobey you if i wanted' which some people read as a taunt, some people read as him not accepting charles' mutation (which like? i don't think erik has ever not accepted him, but whatever) but i personally read it as erik once more trying to find his footing with charles after a decade apart.

anyway now that i talked about canon stuff i think specifically in the context of a sexual relationship, the telepathy stuff would be a way for erik to give up control over the situation and put his full trust in charles. which is important because a) erik is someone who thrives on being in control and finds it very important because so much of his agency was robbed of him and choosing to submit to a higher power than his own is something that insinuates a great deal of trust in the other party and b) charles is the only one who he could do this with because charles proved that he had the capacity to invade erik's mind and know him wholly and didn't take advantage of that and has shown time and time again he will help erik no matter what.

its also the fact that erik repeatedly implies that charles' telepathy will be used to control him when its a much more surface-level/baseline understanding that telepathy is the reading of minds rather than outright taking control of them. it's even in the definition of telepathy. but knowing charles can take control of him and constantly inviting him to (in an assumed sexual context, in this case) highlights how erik sort of longs to have responsibility for his actions taken away from him. which again can only be done by charles. not just because of his powers but because so many of his actions have directly hurt charles and he's the only one who can both metaphorically and physically relieve him of the culpability behind the consequences of what he's done when in complete control of himself. so again erik is someone who wants to relieve himself of his overly-controlling nature, his responsibilities, be completely vulnerable to someone who's seen him at his worst and loved him anyway.

and the only way erik can be all these things at once is by being under charles' control. (under the control of someone stronger than erik who has proven he will never hurt him with the power charles can exert over him).

so like sexually yes it's fun to say haha erik telepathy kink but also i think it is something much more tender which encapsulates the fact that erik is only this vulnerable with someone he has so much trust in and that person can only ever be charles because its only around charles he can truly be wholly himself. and so submissive erik is real to me #tbh

BSD Dead Apple manga highlights!!

Kunikida is insane. "Oh yeah getting shot in the gut is no big deal dwai" and then he proceeds to run around and fight both his own Ability and Demon Snow after this. Jesus.

Kunikida's so resourceful tbh. I love watching him fight. Akutagawa's later fight with Rashoumon (where he demonstrates similar resourcefulness using the molten metal) is also cool for the same reason, because like it's one thing to be TOLD these characters are cool under pressure and smart as long as Dazai's not there to piss them off and a whole other to be shown it.

SO THIS CONFIRMS MY THEORY. I need a fight scene where Yosano detaches her limbs and uses them as weapons after she heals them omg she's so fucking badass. Side note the fact that Kenji and Yosano held up so long against their Abilities is so impressive? Like all of them are ofc but Undefeated and Thou Shalt Not Die are both like, extremely powerful. Your fighting a power that rearranged a mountain and a power that basically can't be killed. Like damn.

Akutagawa's monologue is conveyed in a really cool way via manga adaptation... like DA has some great development for Akutagawa, Kyouka and Atsushi, but Akutagawa's in particular stands out to me because it doesn't really disprove his strength-based worldview?? He finds his own self worth through that view instead which is interesting, by overpowering his Ability instead of finding somewhere he's valued beyond it like say, Yosano.

This is also SUCH an interesting panel. "That I control Demon Snow/That I didn't want to hate her" it's like Atsushi has previously only seen Kyouka as a victim, as being controlled against her will and never wanting any of the violence she partook in when this kinda... confirms it's not all the case? DA as a whole kinda tries to break Atsushi's black and white worldview but I also think, between this and how well Akutagawa and Kyouka work together in DA, there was likely a part of Kyouka who knew she was good at killing and violence, and liked that about herself, if nothing else. The ability to not be completely helpless, even if her circumstances as a whole were not within her control.

The repetition of "I raised by claws" is SO chilling here omg. But I also find it so so interesting that I think Atsushi is... the only BSD character who just... wants to live. Not for other people, he definitely doesn't want to die. Like so many characters in BSD (Dazai, Yosano, Chuuya, Kunikida, Kyouka, Ango, arguably Akutagawa) are in some manner suicidal, or even the ones who aren't have reasons they life for. But Atsushi's base desire is just... he wants to live. That's where his Ability comes from. It's why he killed Shibusawa. It's so interesting.

So there are two sides to Fyodor's Ability. But he CALLS HIMSELF crime in this case?? Bc the Crime avatar is wearing what Fyodor was wearing. I've seen theories Fyodor himself is just the manifestation of his own Ability or something and tbh... that might have merit.

Tbh, I often wonder how Ango ended up working with the government. It's repeatedly mentioned how he dislikes and opposes their use of human lives as value metrics, or plans like this for the 'greater good', and yet he still does their bidding. He's still here. Even though no one listens to his oppositions. Why?

and it all starts with roy and tim, while dick is seething with rage and jealousy in the background and stubbornly arguing that it's all just bc tim is his younger brother, and not something that roy's dirty brain came up with!

oooh, YES. i LOVE this. your mind. especially if it starts with RoyTim instead of the expected DickRoy or DickTim? that's so good. it's the definition of Roy being a little shit, accidentally seducing Dick's younger brother and sleeping with him. i think it's fun if this specifically highlights Roy's fuckboy era, where he slept with just about anyone and wasn't shy about hiding it, as opposed to him being a bit more mature and careful about sleeping around with Tim, knowing Dick would disapprove. (thinking specifically about the time Roy slept with Helena, Dick's complicated ex situationship and when Dick asked Roy was very casually like "oh dw man i wouldn't get between you two like that, i only slept with her!" and just being so casual about it)

Roy *could* hide it from Dick, and tbh he knows he should. but it's a family full of detectives anyway, so what's the point? Roy can only make up so many excuses for being in Gotham and if Tim is old enough to consent, it's none of Dick's business. even if Roy is sort of rubbing it in his face to *make it* his business. i am delighted by the idea that Roy is almost getting off to how angry Dick is about it. Dick doesn't have a lot of good arguments about why Roy *can't* do this. the "he's basically my baby brother" argument doesn't go very far, and it doesn't seem to be stopping Tim. Tim can pretend to be annoyed and scolding Roy about all the bragging, but Roy sees the hidden smiles.

i think it's also fun if Tim is purposefully doing this to rile Dick up. maybe he and Dick have danced around the idea of feelings, but Dick has always shut down their long stares and lingering touches by saying how Tim is like a brother to him. and so, Tim wants to call his bluff. if he's just Dick's brother, than Dick has no right to get jealous over who Tim does or doesn't like. and Roy is two birds with one stone. not only is he someone for Tim to sleep with to make Dick jealous, Dick's *best friend*, even. but he's someone Tim has genuinely had a thing for, and it's easy for him to play it off as though Roy was the one who came onto him and not Tim making himself obvious bait. he's honestly shocked it's worked as well as it has, with Dick seething every time Tim and Roy are in the same room, even if they're behaving. he lets Roy make the jokes about their sex life and show displays of affection because Tim knows it's building and building for Dick, and eventually, he's going to break.

only Dick went a little too hard on the "brothers" excuse and now it's an excuse sort of believes, which adds a delightful bit of incestual vibes to it. bc Dick tells Tim that he *made his point* a little too late, and now Tim actually likes Roy. so Dick is going to have to explain this to Roy too. and somehow, the awkward conversation leads to Roy suddenly being very interested in an incest kink and seeing exactly how "brotherly" they are-

them all sleeping together is Roy's suggestion, and Tim is *definitely* into the idea, and even Dick is more on board then he expects to be. maybe he and Roy fooled around once when they were kids and it was never thought about beyond a sexuality exploration sort of thing for both of them. but now, Dick has to admit it wouldn't be the *worst* sight to see Roy fuck Tim. after all, Roy has to show Dick how Tim likes it. and Roy is *really* leaning into the brothers thing the whole time.

after the first few times they sleep together, i think Dick would just accept Tim and Roy are a package deal. and of all his friends, Roy really can't be the worst one to date. all the fuckboy stuff stripped away, Roy is a great boyfriend and makes sure Dick and Tim are more than happy. he remembers anniversaries and little "just because" gifts. and he's a great dad, which somehow adds to it all.

anyway yes, i love the potential of these three together with Roy being a Little Shit the entire time just because he can.

Don’t get me wrong! I love these 3 women down, will forever support, stream and watch their content but their charts…. I wouldn’t want to have tbh!

So for Nara… her chart is all good and all but there are a few things I don’t like. Her chart indicates that she will have major skin problems in this lifetime, which is evident because she has rash everywhere and at least twice a year. I don’t think I’d be quite pleased if the universe gave me a chart that indicates that. Her chart also shows that she will be deeply rooted/tied down to religion, and we all know she’s part Mormon. I personally don’t like religion, I’m not a big fan, I haven’t been to church my entire life, the only thing I believe in are my ancestors and the occult. Personally, I have dealt with friendship struggles my whole life, but on Naras end, it does seem to be a recurring theme in her life, and she has friendship issues because of her race, she’s mixed race black woman, who grew up in Germany… she obviously probably faced some intense ostracism and racism for majority of her life… it’s just a no from me.

My wife Billie!! I haven’t started the written analysis of her chart, but I do check from time to time and keep some mental notes about her chart. I personally feel bad for Billie because it feels as if, in this life time she was like FORCED to be famous. It’s part of her karmic debut from her past life. A lot of her past life has crept into her present. The depression that she has, that’s past life influences, the men and exes she has, are all her enemies from her past life… and we all know they did not good to her because of why!?? Even this is unlucky for her, since she’s brought into fame, she can profit off the pain and gain success and streams. The 12H Mars Square 3H Saturn, I’m glad she said this herself, but this placement really isn’t a good placement as it could possibly indicate someone who could be unruly in school and cause a bit of a problem for the teachers and students so… thank goodness she did homeschooling because if not… we’d be getting Billie Eilish Problematic Threads all over social media. For me… I’m a good student so… I don’t think I’d want that aspect myself.😅

So… just being brought into fame, which she has said stresses and overwhelms her, enemies from the past… it’s a lot to deal with to be honest.

Ugh! My fave Rachel!! She is an amazing singer, her artful style and just everything about her is just so amazing but her chart makes it so hard for her to breakthrough. It’s as if she is meant to have a lot of money and success, but her 10H Saturn delays so much for her, and it’s possible that she could have these issues because of… karmic debts! All her contracts and collaborations, and just life in the music industry in general will be a bit rocky because of her past life karma. Some negative karma connections she’ll notice, and others she won’t really pay mind to or struggle to see as she won’t be able to notice them. Her chart also highlights a lot of death in her family, and she openly sings about such. So… yea… it’s always about Karmic debuts, and how they’ll just creep in to just shock your life up!!

In all honesty though, wish her all the best because she really deserves the spotlight!! She’s an amazing person!!

"Ford should be blamed for being manipulated by bill because he was desperate for validation" hmmmmmm

Okay, perhaps I should expand upon this point a bit.

First to be clear, this post wasn’t meant to be hate to either Ford or Stan, it’s more just me saying what I think are fair criticisms of them vs what I think are unfair criticisms. When I say “blamed” I don’t mean they should be condemned, just that they did something wrong and there is a degree of accountability there.

Ford’s whole experience with Bill is a tricky one, because Ford undeniably WAS a victim here. Especially with what we learn in the Book of Bill, which really highlighted the abusive nature of their relationship. And yes, Bill’s manipulations targeted Ford’s insecurities stemming from a lifetime of bullying and his father’s harshness. Those are all reasons why we should 100% empathize with Ford, and understand that he is not just some horrible selfish person, the way Ford haters make him out to be.

BUT, I don’t think that erases all accountability. If Ford were the only person hurt by Bill, then sure totally, don’t blame the victim. However, that’s not the case. Ford’s actions nearly destroyed the entire universe, and definitely ruined at least one life (Fiddleford) not to mention the trauma suffered by all the residents of Gravity Falls. And yes, obviously BILL is ultimately the one to blame for all that, but Ford’s initial cooperation was essential. And the reason he was so ready to believe Bill was because of his own ego— stemming from his insecurity of course, but ego nevertheless.

Bill straight up tells us that this is what made Ford the perfect target: “the ego of a king and the insecurity of a circus freak”. Two sides of the same coin, and if you ignore either then you are ignoring important parts of Ford’s character arc. Ford was bullied and ostracized his whole childhood for being different, and it caused him to develop a superiority complex. He needs to believe that he is special, destined for greatness. Which ultimately causes him to look down on others and make reckless, selfish choices in pursuit of that greatness. Ford’s a scientist, trained to be objective and follow evidence-based logic— yet he immediately trusted this unknown entity with no real evidence towards his intentions, because Bill flattered his ego and told Ford what he wanted to hear. If Ford weren’t so self-important, Bill’s manipulations would never have worked. We can empathize with Ford’s backstory, but also recognize that it has caused him to develop some negative traits, which led him to make mistakes that had dire consequences. And again, those consequences are really key here. Ford’s mistakes didn’t just put himself at risk, they put a LOT of innocent people at risk… like, the whole world.

None of this is just me either— this was pretty explicitly Ford’s character arc in the show and books. Ford himself admits as much: “don’t blame yourself [Stan], I’m the one who made a deal with Bill in the first place. I fell for all his easy flattery, you would have seen him for the scam artist he is”. Ford’s whole arc is about learning to let go of his ego and inflated self-importance, and recognize the value of others (namely, Stan). He always cared about others deeply, but he needed to let go of his self importance in order to truly appreciate and connect with them. He grows and learns and seeks to atone for his mistakes, which is exactly what makes him such a good character, and IMO such a likeable one.

Sorry this was so long. Make no mistake, I love Ford to pieces. He might be my favorite character tbh (either he or Dipper… Dip’s historically been my favorite, but I’ve developed a huge appreciation for Ford since rewatching the show recently). And I honestly really appreciate people like you that stick up for him, because he gets wayyy too much unfair hate in the fandom. I just think there is a lot of nuance in this topic, and it’s a tricky balance between trying not to victim blame while also not completely absolving Ford of accountability for the huge danger that he put others in, unintentional though it may have been.

Anyway though, peace and love, and keep defending our boy Stanford because this fandom is mean to him and he needs it!❤️🫡

Hot take, but I think MK is only focused on the city/innocent people mainly because of how it contributes to his vision of a "hero". Like yeah, obviously he cares, but he's so much more focused on his own life and his own friends rather than the greater good (which, valid). Like I think of instances like the end of 2x03, where they distinctly don't help clean up after Pigsy's ping-pong relapse, and the fact that we've only seen MK helping strangers TWICE in the whole show (2x05, where he attempts to stop spider queen by aiding who he thinks is an innocent girl, and those old ladies in 4x01, partly a result of his guilt over LBD), and it's just like. My mans is not his own definition of a hero ("We help people! I mean I- I help people!").

In AHIB MK steals a civilian's hover bike, and he didn't give it back (we see it show up again in 1x09). In 1x01 it's "What about my friends? The city? They're all counting on me!", with his friends notably first. In 4x02 Azure highlights "It's too late to save them! We can't risk unleashing the curse into the world!" to which MK replies "You don't know, we'd risk it for sure!". MK has already chosen his friends over the world. He'll do it again. I think of the end of s3 and his words: "The perfect world is what you make it—so as long as I have my friends by my side, this world! Is! Perfect!".

MK has spent the first 4 seasons of this show maintaining the status quo. Unlike the Lady Bone Demon and Azure, who try to bring about real change, MK is reactionary. He has to be pushed into taking action or solving problems. He's fixing what other people break rather than taking a stand himself. MK doesn't embody a typical selfless hero—which, tbh he doesn't need to, it's why I find him so interesting. He's so obsessed with being the hero and being a "good guy" that he's almost missed the trees for the forest.

Like, MK's defining moment as a "hero" who helps others (set up in 2x07) is saving Mei in 3x10. Saving his best friend. The only reason he had the determination to reach out to Mei at all was because she was so close to him. We see something similar to samadhi fire Mei play out in 4x14 with Jade Emperor Azure, and MK doesn't save him. MK let's Wukong stop him from reaching out to Azure. Azure dies.

ok so i just watched the wicker man (the original one ofc not that awful nicholas cage remake with the bees lol) and rather than making a post about it i ofc am gonna talk about mr king, aka the in9 episode that people kept saying was super similar to the film lol because if i cant relate everything to my hyperfixation then what is the POINT lol?!

first thing i will say is i absolutely LOVED the film!! i often find classic horror films either to be hit or miss (halloween sucked but the exorcist was amazing lol) and this was definitely a hit imo!

and it's super interesting thinking back to mr king and the things they chose to pay homage to from the original! creepy kids, masks and rituals, emphasis on sexuality and the harvest, even the outsider acting as a 'well-meaning coloniser' trying to 'educate' the natives lol

but i think it's in the changes that make mr king super interesting to me (and why it kinda bugs me that people keep just saying it's a remake of the wicker man... like it bugged me BEFORE i watched the film and even more now because they are v different lol something being inspired by a thing doesn't mean it's copying it smh have y'all never heard of a homage!?!?... anyway)

changing the setting to wales was SUCH a good choice imo, a place that is only really recently beginning to properly reclaim some of it's old culture after literally centuries of english colonisation (if you weren't aware, there have been recent pushes for various welsh landmarks and places to be referred to by the welsh name and not the english, which i wholeheartedly support tbh! you can't pronounce yr wyddfa? skill issue lol), and moving the focus from religion to environmental factors also made so much more sense for something set this century!

i also found it interesting the way both deal with the weaponisation of sex and sexuality... in the film it's when the landlord's daughter (willow) tries to seduce the sergeant in order to expose his hypocrisy (and ironically in not giving into it, he sealed his own fate in the end lol), and in the show it's the young girl who lies about alan being sexual towards her (in turn leading towards the whole photograph scene and, ultimately, his own grizzly end lol)... both in a way are responding to the culture of their respective times (the film commentating on the 60s/70s free love culture, mr king responding to the wider #me too movement of the last 10 or so years)

and continuing on from this, part of the horror in both speaks specifically to the audience's discomfort with open discussions and displays of sexuality, and the power that that discomfort holds over us still... and ofc in the film this manifests itself with the idea of christianity vs paganism, highlighting how both are a lot more similar than either side would like to admit to lol...

mr king is a little more murkier, since the emphasis is on environmentalism. in a way it deals a lot more with the concept of rationality (as in, science and the like) vs irrationality (as in, paganism and mysticism) than the original! though in the end the message is the same: that regardless of what or who you believe in, it ain't gonna stop you from being murdered lol! it also positions that in the mr king universe, the sacrifices aren't just the town trying to come back from a bad harvest, but instead a super important yearly ritual that, presumably, is actually working lol?? so what we may perceive as 'irrational' is actually the other way around lol...

one of the big changes from the film is the mystery element. in the film sergeant howie's whole deal is that he's gone to the island to find a young girl... in fact the town's people specifically use the fact they know he will stop at nothing to save her (even by the most degrading and invasive ways possible) as a way to trap him. alan is completely different in this regard, in that he has come to rural wales in order to escape his old life... he's not trying to save anyone, effectively he's running away! and even the mystery of the previous 'mr king' is only really something he looks into to save his own skin... both characters are selfish in the reasons why they end up in their positions, and naive to think that their positions as men in positions of authority would save them!

idkk i just think there's a lot of super fascinating stuff in this episode and how it plays with the aesthetics and themes of the film it was inspired by that i've just kind seen brushed aside just cos the 'twist' at the end was super similar to it lol??

For lineart/sketching I usually use a slightly modified version of the Shale brush in the default procreate “calligraphy” section- just w/ the streamline feature turned down to zero and more like…size variation? (Idk I modified it a year and a half ago I don’t completely remember what I did lol)

Then for my grayscale comics, like these,

I use this Copic marker brush w/ just straight up black and varying levels of opacity. Usually I don’t use blending brushes in these, but in my most recent one I did.

For my colored stuff tho I use a lotta this pencil brush for everything (shadows, highlights, base flats, etc) and then depending on whether I want something more painterly (like the ocs on the left) or more cell shaded (like stevepop on the right), I either use soft texture brushes or a chalk brush (I cannot for the LIFE of me find where this chalk brush came from?? I’ve been digging but idk I can’t find it outside of my duplicate??) for highlights

Some other brushes/brush sets I use (all of them are free as of rn ‘cuz I’m broke):

Habook Brushpack (specifically the rectangle one- it puts down flat colors nice and fast but also doesn’t annoy me the way most “ink” brushes do!)

Laurenillusrated Brushpack- I use these mainly for skin, they’re really nice. (Also, @laurenillustrated is on tumblr- her art is so pretty, it’s like a storybook istg. Check it out if you haven’t it’s AMAZING)

I’ve recently started using @loish’s brushpack too, and I ADORE these brushes. I used them a TON on the Christine poster. You can get them by signing up for Loish's Digital Art School, which is a great collection of art resources as a whole, and it’s totally free. Would absolutely recommend

And finally, for the halftone texture I like to put on everything, I use the Halftone Hospital Basic Tone Kit. All of their brushes are fantastic, definitely check them out if you like the look of traditional art but also like the lower supply cost of digital art lol. Or just in general, ‘cause they’re great

(Then for the paper texture overlays I love so much, I usually use stock photos tbh.)

Anyhow, these are some of my favorites. But I do use others too, and this all came from years of playing around and finding what I like! I had this phase about…1 1/2-2ish years ago where I hated my art style and nothing was coming out right. It pushed me to try a bunch of different brushes- in retrospect I don’t think the brushes were what made it better, I just improved over time, but I had a lot of fun trying out different brushes. So definitely try ‘em out and experiment, because it really is a fun time :))

OKAY, I can answer this one!

I'm happy that the whole fandom turned around on Fanon Masky recently (at least, I believe it must have been recently considering Cheesecake Masky was a thing before I 'left' the fandom), since that version of him is a bit problematic lol

If you've watched Marble Hornets, then you'll know that Masky and Hoody are REALLY scary (seriously, I had nightmares about Masky for absolute weeks), and work against the Operator. However 'fanon' Masky is a loyal employee of Slenderman/The Operator (I'm gonna make a post addressing the differences one day), and isn't really all that scary?? From what I remember, he was mainly joked about as being the 'Sensible one' of the Proxy trio (Him, Hoody and Toby), who was basically the dude always tired of their bullshit. Not only is this the complete opposite of how Masky is, as he would NEVER work FOR his enemy, who literally ruined his life from childhood, but it also sort of flanderised him and no longer made him scary, which is something the Creepypasta fandom tends to do a lot lmao

Another thing is his sudden change of character design. A lot of old Creepypasta fanart depicting him from 2013-2017 show him with lighter brown hair and a yellow jacket, which isn't what he looks like at all?? Actual Masky has much darker hair and I don't think he's ever seen with that ugly ass highlighter coloured jacket.

There's also the complete change in his body type, definitely one of the most controversial things about Fanon Masky. Let me first say that I do not believe that Tim Sutton (Masky's original actor) is fat, I'm not sure WHERE the old Creepypasta fandom got that idea from. Fandom in general, especially the Creepypasta fandom, is quite 'fatphobic' from my experience. What this basically means is that if you're not a skinny twink you will be body shamed in every way possible. The Creepypasta character market has always been oversaturated with men who basically were twinks, with slim and pale bodies, such as Jeff the Killer.

I believe that making Masky so thin came from the fact that when the Creepypasta fandom really took off around 2013-ish, a lot of Creepypasta fans looked for content and eventually I believe that a lot of them must have stumbled across Marble Hornets. Upon seeing Masky and Hoody, two characters that could have passed off as Creepypasta characters (as most of the other characters in Marble Hornets looked like ordinary people), the fandom probably adopted them and adapted them to 'their tastes', no matter how good they were or not. It might have also been a game of telephone too, as maybe a Creepypasta fan's friend of a friend told them some info about Masky and they misunderstood and instead of who Masky actually was, saw him more as the silly goofy masked guy. And to be honest, I don't think the Creepypasta fandom has ever really been known for actually doing their research, so that misconstrued version of him just became canon in everyones minds.

Not that it was always that innocent though...

One titular thing about fanon Masky was his strange love of Cheesecake. I myself saw a lot of it in 2016 sewed into every bit of content for his character, and was confused on where it came from. Then, I found out that it was meant to be a joke SHAMING him for 'being fat'. I originally stumbled across this for the first time in a satire comic, where one of the panels is Hoody chastising Masky for eating cheesecake, stating that Masky will become fat. The cheesecake joke is one I've seen in some fandoms before, albeit in different ways and with different foods. For the life of me I cannot figure out why everyone decided to associate him with Cheesecake, but everyone just did.

Fanon Masky is a perfect example on how fandoms can flanderise characters to the point where they're unrecognisable; pull up a picture of Masky in the Marble Hornets and then a Masky fanart from 2015. The difference is STAGGERING. The Creepypasta fandom is very much infamous for flanderising characters, such as making Jeff a misunderstood bad boy, Toby a waffles-obsessed manchild, and Masky a Slenderman-loving, Crayons and Paper-having, Toby-hating, Cheesecake-eating twink.

TL;DR: Fanon Masky was made as a shitty misconstrued fat joke.

Honestly it’s kind of cute seeing what Bagley got up to as a human and the people he interacted with. Highlight for me was definitely number 6 and 5; he’s honestly so real for liking strawberries, also the entire interaction between him and Arthur as they rowed together was so so sweet

Also screw the Larsen parents, I feel bad for bagley (Bradley) considering he was probably neglected for more academic aspects and probably was the witness to his parents’ arguments considering that whole scene of being bluntly told his father was leaving for “someone he loves more”. I would gladly go to your matches with no hesitation little Brad☝️☝️

Digital Monster X-evolution

If those janky Digimon World cutscenes were a whole movie, it'd be this. To be fair, I think outdated CGI has a lot more charm than a lot of the higher quality but soulless stuff they put out nowadays. Plot-wise it was nothing special, we've seen this plot a zillion times by now. They just injected it with some new gimmicks. I did find the main character charming enough. I honestly wouldn't mind seeing another attempt at an all-CGI movie as long as that didn't become the new default (slippery slope lol).

Notes:

Although the plot of this film was really simple they managed to add some convoluted lore anyways...because Digimon. Just when I was thinking "that was confusing" I saw that this wiki has a 900 page long (not really lol) explanation/play-by-play. Of course they had to open the movie with Leomon dying (really?) Why is that a thing? I've never felt emotional seeing any Leomon die tbh lol

I think Dorumon and his digivolutions have really strong designs. His rookie form kinda looks like a furry version of Monodramon. I've been playing Digimon RPG (the MMO) and just by chance ended up with him as my partner (I actually thought I was getting Impmon lol). Fate!

Not a lot of levity here, the script took itself very seriously and the characters spent most of the film just being existential and talking about the meaning of life. Kinda heavy for a silly little monster battle film.

Legit got a little emotional when Dorumon was being bullied, but it's really easy to feel sad for a furry little creature

The CGI actually held up better than I thought it would for the most part, the mecha digimon especially looked awesome. The only "AH! KILL IT WITH FIRE!" moment was Andromon -shudder-

(Of course, Andromon is ugly in any form, but this is definitely his worst).

Weird seeing Omegamon vs. WarGreymon. I was also surprised to see Magnamon in the Royal Knights. He just seems more beast-like to me than the other knights.

Tokomon was one of those "is it cute or is it annoying?" baby characters. I'm leaning more towards cute, but there were moments where I was like "alright, that's enough of him" loi

Dorugamon kinda reminded me of Toothless. I wanna pet his big nose :3c

They just couldn't resist, they had to call something in this franchise "Yggradsil" didn't they

(They also used other Norse names, the same ones used in Ah! My Goddess).

The funky X-forms of digimon were fun, very angular. It reminds me of the newer Pokemon games how they keep adding new gimmicky forms. I'm sure we'll be seeing more of these. I guess in a way, this is a more realistic "evolution" since it has to do with the digimon reacting to their environment by developing antibodies.

I saw people complaining that Frontier only had two Royal Knights, well I guess they made up for it a bit here. Are they always gonna be working for the villain side? I wanna see a series where they're the heroes!

It was neat seeing Silphymon again. I get excited when 02 characters show up cuz it's kind of the underdog season in my mind.

The villain digimon (aside from the royal knights) weren't very well explained they just kinda showed up, caused havoc, then went away. The only reason why I have a name for any of them is cuz I read the wiki. I guess it would be hard to naturally fit in all the names...

The name "Alphamon" was kind of an eyeroll. They're running out of epic names lol. (Also, it just makes me think of alpha bros nowadays). The design is nice tho, it's got the black w/ gold highlights thing that I liked in Frontier.

At the end of the movie the digital world was destroyed and then restored (Frontier much?) It wasn't really clear what that meant for the digimon. Did they all just resurrect via digiegg? Were they recreated exactly as they were before the world's destruction? -shrug-

Pretty sad that this movie never got any love in the states. I wonder if there's a fandub out there somewhere.

Apparently Digimon World 4 is related to this movie so I'll be playing that next!

—Highest Hit One-shot: My only one-shot last year was Possession (Dragon Age/Emmrook), and tbh I have no idea what's normal for a ship like this, and so I am happy with the response in any case lol.

—New Things I Tried: Sene and Ameridan developed into a very unique ship for me, in that they are largely, platonically in love. Romantically, their hearts sort of belong to Solas and Telana, but this does not deter them from cultivating a great love between them. As Sene describes it, they are friends who have "expanded the definition of friendship." I like their devotion to one another in that it sort of demands so little beyond itself. It is truly spiritual and very comforting to write.

Also, in both my major fics this year, in two separate fandoms, I am writing couples who are reuniting after having not seen one another physically in ten years (bethyl and solavellan). It's a little strange how that turned out. The emotional maturity involved in this sort of pursuit has been eye-opening. I feel I could not have written these fictions 5-10 years ago in my life.

—Fic I Spent the Most Time On: Likely afterglow, though churning out the first three sections of Riptide in like a month was quite challenging 😅

—Fic I Spent the Least Time On: Possession. It came to me quickly, as I had this idea for Emmrich and Rook falling in love almost vicariously through their pursuit of more information on Solas and Sene during their time in the Inquisition. It was always based on the plot of the A.S. Byatt book Possession, which I love. I wrote it first as a chapter for Riptide, but I realized it could easily stand alone with few tweaks. I wrote the whole thing in probably two sittings.

—Favourite Thing I Wrote: One of my favorite single scenes that I wrote last year is probably, weirdly enough, the scene with Sene and Abelas in the Crossroads, discussing Abelas's past with Solas and Mythal in Chapter 21 of Riptide. At this point, Sene and Abelas have been broken up for a long time, and Abelas is married to another woman. But their devotion to each other is still very strong, as friends and comrades at arms, and I enjoyed exploring these tender, platonic moments between them, how they know each other so well, and how they comfort one another in such a strange and difficult time that really only the two of them, given their respective relationships to Solas, can appreciate.

—Favorite Thing I Read: Most of what I read is for work, and I read many stories last year that inspired me. I reread a lot of work by two of my favorite authors as well: Ann Beattie and Joy Williams. Their work brings something so interesting and dark to this notion of femininity and what happens when a female character gets into this place where she is constantly feeling the need to justify herself to a man, as something slowly withers away inside of her. Meanwhile, in the face of her acceptance toward resignation, he simply seems to flourish, unaffected by matters of the heart, and this is a necessary feature of their duality. One of my favorite short stories ever is Ann Beattie's "The Burning House," published originally in 1979, which is really a perfect encapsulation of this kind of thing.

—Something I Finished: Just Possession. I think...???? Lol

—Miscellaneous Highlights: In both of my fics this year, I have focused on my heroines first, which is not typical for me. Usually, and in the past, I have focused foremost on my tragic male heroes and their singular journeys, ie: Daryl and Solas, and how learning to be loved has been a motivating factor for them and their pursuits. But this year, I have been much more motivated by the heroine's journey. I guess I am still really proud of my characterization of Beth Greene and her life in the Civic Republic in afterglow. I am also really proud of how in-depth I've gotten with my Lavellan, Sene, and her journey in the ten years between Inquisition and Veilguard. In both afterglow and Riptide, we see women trying to move forward with their lives in the face of immense loss, which has evolved and continued to take from them over a period of ten years. They become harder and sadder because of it, but also much wiser and more aware of their potential. They find productive ways to wield their anger, and they grow. They make friends, and they try to find happiness with other people. These relationships don't work out, but they provide valuable tools and wisdom in order to light the way forward, to a grander destiny.

—Writing Goals for 2025: I would simply like to finish my long fics. Lol. I have no idea what else the future may bring.

—Final Thoughts: Last year was a bit of a turning point for me in my writing, as I feel it has matured quite a bit, and while the process was somewhat slow, it feels like it's found its footing now. Very clearly, I can see how my writing for both solavellan and bethyl has changed and grown up in a massive way, mainly via the themes and focus on different kinds of love, how love changes over time, and the pursuit of stoicism and self-actualization on one's on. Riptide, which spans eleven years of Sene's life, sees her changing dramatically from beginning to end, finding a great deal of calm where she used to just be sort of mad with anger. It definitely feels like a more mature companion to my first solavellan fic The Dead Season, in which Sene was very young and still trying to figure out who she was with Solas, let alone without him. Afterglow, meanwhile, feels like a much more mature companion to my first bethyl fic Magnolia, as it is focused on Beth, and how she has grown up as well over the past ten years.

I guess we're all getting older lol (in a good way). That's the theme of the year for me.

I've read through about 35% of WoR over the last week and it's been so so sosososos goooood

First of all, I love the color palette for the cover. The blues are so pretty to look at. Second of all, I love my depressed son more and more each chapter. Dalinar is the only one who gives him any respect!! I've probably highlighted every time their 'eyes meet' - the way it's shorthand (TO ME) for the inexplicable amount of trust they have in each other....... Even as they're still getting to know each other, even when Kaladin's past trauma with lighteyes comes up, their connection and pull towards each other, that innate trust born from the honor they sense in one another... I'm EATING IT UPPPP!! They are both still my favorite character POVs to read so far, I love them so much and I need Dalinar to help Kaladin heal from his trauma. And maybe kiss him a little, idk. TBH, LET'S BE REAL, I NEED ANYONE TO KISS KALADIN A LITTLE. THIS BOY HAS PROBABLY NOT BEEN KISSED EVER. He needs JOY. He needs to know he is LOVED. I NEED SOMEONE TO LOVE HIM, LOUDLY, CONSISTENTLY (good job to bridge 4 so far ur doing amazing sweeties). IF I HAVE TO READ ABOUT HIM CRYING AND SUFFERING, I'M GOING TO NEED TO KNOW HE WILL BE KISSED AT SOME POINT. (but also jk I love crying Kaladin, it really does a number on my emotions!!!) To that end, I do see the Adolin/Kaladin vision. The appeal is pretty obvious LOL I definitely sail that ship too. The way they are actually the same person cracks me up. The only difference is Adolin's had more practice keeping his temper under control. But they both have that same I-am-an-Adult-but-I-still-have-a-teen's-emotional-regulation energy, and I love that for them - their practice grounds tussle gave me life - and I also can't wait for them to start loving each other too! The part with Adolin realizing he does not have any true friends GUTTED me. Kaladin can be that for him!!! He just likes his dad so much more LOL. But brandy sandy moves slow and I love/hate him for it.

LIKE FOR EXAMPLE, the Shallan chapters have dragged for me a little bit, like I feel like she should be at the plains already lmao, and I can see Brandon doling it out piece by piece among the rest of the action. But Gaz being back really made me happy! I always enjoyed him, and Pattern is so endearing to me as well. The first interaction with Kaladin went about as expected, lmao, his natural state is Not Amused, and Shallan is such a jokester at heart. I can see myself really enjoying their dynamic. I'm so pleased we're getting Parshendi/Listener POV and already I love Eshonai! Super excited to get to her meeting with Dalinar. THAT BEING SAID, it's been getting harder for me to wrap my head around the new lore being introduced LMAO, specifically the magic on the Listener side of things, and the whole spren being betrayed thing is muddled up in my head with the knights radiant "betraying" humankind. IS ODIUM A SPREN THE WAY THE STORMFATHER IS? OR ARE THE VOIDBRINGERS SPREN? When the Listeners mention their gods, do they mean the voidbringers? IS THE ALMIGHTY A SPREN?? But I've learned from TWOK that the information WILL be repeated a few times from all the different POVs and so I feel I am in good hands in that regard and I don't need to sweat understanding every detail presented to me right away. I DO love how wildly different spren can be! AND FINALLY - LAST NIGHT I got to the first Szeth and Kaladin confrontation/fight AND IT WAS SOOOOO FUCKING GOOD OH MY GOD. WHAT DID YOU DO TO SZETH, KALADIN!!! HE HAD A MELTDOWN AND RAN AWAY WITHOUT FINISHING THE JOB!!! I am S H O O K!!! And as far as what I've been spoiled for (almost always entirely my fault LOL): Moash is gonna betray Kaladin in some way. Idk when or how or why, but it's made my anticipation grow and made me pay closer attention to Moash, who I already had a soft spot for as he and Kaladin (KAL HE CALLS HIM KAL) grow closer. The fact that Kaladin sees him as his most real friend.... ouuughhh. Mmmm, Y'SMELL THAT?? SMELLS LIKE ANGST. Also I am cracking up at this meme from twitter bc this is truly me when I try to imagine Shadesmar (IT HAS NOT YET BEEN DESCRIBED LIKE THE FIRST IMAGE THO, IN MY DEFENSE):

AND ANOTHER THING: Jasnah can't be dead, but the way Shallan and that letter excerpt from Navani for the chapter headers processed her death really bummed me out, lol. Like I am mourning her with them EVEN THOUGH ALL EVIDENCE POINTS TO HER BEING ALIVE. I cannot wait for her and Shallan to reunite!!

1. what was your writing-highlight this year? what made it special and how will you reflect on it next year?

mentioned this in my writing in review for this year but finishing cage earlier this year really set me on a high note for the rest of the year. i really proved to myself that i can write 80k+ words in a single project; i can finish and fully flesh out a narrative, my dreams are achievable if i really put myself to it.

for a really long time i didn't think i could do it. there's a lot of reasons why i felt that way, but having people who kept up with every chapter, my partner and other friends like valen and multi listening to me rant ad nauseum about my ideas and thoughts, and giving myself permission to do something 'silly' turned out to be such a good decision. so i think next year i'm trying to take that energy into it. i'm writing for myself, my friends and my dick LMAO. but i'm also taking the strategies that i learned (ie: i need a long outline to finish something or i won't p much lol). so next year is really gonna be a planning year! i wanna have more outlines that i can go back and reread and become obsessed about sEUOSDJ

3. did you achieve everything you wanted to this year? if not, how will you go about it?

nah! but tbh i'm okay with it. getting distracted by other wips is just par for the course for me and my brain pfff so i'm not miffed that i got distracted by other things and paramour got put off to the side. i still think about paramour a LOT don't get me wrong; but khizzy and sjaak giving me brain rot is a welcome change.

i also could've never predicted i would get into conlanging--i barely knew what it was (outside of lotr really) but here i am a few months later with a whole baby language on my hands HAHA. i think i'm finally of the mindset that yeah writing is my life's purpose bc it would be meaningless without it, but its also a hobby and i wanna have fun with it <3

4. what is your favourite line you wrote this year?

this is so hard OSCJK thank god multiple people have asked this bc its definitely not just one. perusing through the things i wrote this year, i think one that stands out to me is from draft 3 of btaf (which is the actual Real Prose draft 1 attempt lol. its a whole tier system of me drawing this wip out) but its the first sentence kinda hits and i don't think i wanna change it cuz it sets the tone well:

The cruelest and craftiest of all the Devil’s handiwork—darkness—had descended upon and laid waste to the countryside.

something something, speaks of the savagery that is yet to be revealed later on, makes the wip super moody (the equivalent of the tried and true "dark and stormy night"), and alludes to the time period (cuz we're talking about the devil in deadass the first sentence PFF)

8. what are three things you're looking forward to next year?

i'm gonna be optimistic and say draft 2 (the elongated outline) of btaf will be done--i've been taking a break from it but multi's very sweet sweep of draft 1 has reinvigorated me with brain worms.

Surprisingly good

You expected him to be like a 90 year old that has never seen technology in his life, but he knows all the controls AND starts picking up on how to drift

I'm not saying he can beat you but he's usually coming in a steady 3rd place when you race.

Even sometimes comes in 1st if you're having a bad round. ("WHY IS THE GUY IN 10TH PLACE THROWING BLUE SHELLS HOWS THAT GONNA HELP HIM AT ALL?!") (......guys am i ok??????)

Enjoys it a lot more than you thought he would

It started out as him finally giving in to you asking him to play but over time he finds himself asking if you want to play.

It's a fun way for him to wind down

Enjoys seeing you get competitive, and loves seeing you blush when he compliments your skills out loud.

Mammon

Mains as Wario (I can not justify this I just think it’s funny)

Is pretty much on par with your skills

You're both constantly overtaking each other in and out of 1st place

You are both ABSOLUTELY jumping on top of each other, trying to block the other from seeing the screen. (THE SQUID IS NOT ENOUGH!)

"Hey knock it off would ya the Great Mammon is kicking your ass fair and square"

Immediately does the same to you the second you're in 1st for more than 5 seconds.

You're both on a mission to ruin the CPUs life the moment it overtakes you both while you're arguing.

You spend loads of time watching the highlight reel because something stupid happened and you both think it's the funniest thing ever.

You pretend to hate each other during the game but immediately return to being super close and cuddly after the game is over.

He absolutely makes bets with you - "MC if I win this you have to do WHATEVER I say for the whole night!"

Leviathan

Mains as Yoshi (idk why I just think it fits him) or Link ("bc he’s so cool" (so true bestie))

A monster

Impossibly good (He's had years of racing game practice so idk what you expect) but BOY does it suck to think you're good at a game and then have someone prove to you you're just average at it.

It's good to see him have so much fun though, and trying to cause blue shell chaos from way back in the CPU pack is pretty fun.

He’s definitely helping you to also get impossibly good at the game, you're already able to beat everyone but him when you start picking up on some of his skills.

He knows every shortcut.

Idk bro I just think some cheating is in order. Maybe congratulate his win by kissing his cheek and watching him stutter and fumble through the next round.

Satan

Mains as Dry Bowser (tryna be better n cooler than Lucifer oops)

I'm not gonna lie to you, his wrathful side will 100% come out when you start kicking his ass.

Is the death glare you're receiving right now worth the victory?? YES, ABSOLUTELY

Maybe you give him a few wins so he doesn’t kill you though, you'd never tell him you LET him though.

Games aren't really his thing but once he gets the swing of things and you give him the few wins he finds it much easier and starts to enjoy himself a bit more, and definitely chills out on the death glare.. especially when you're kind enough to not only celebrate your own wins but his as well.

After playing definitely apologises if he made you uncomfortable or upset and absolutely lets you do whatever you want.

Want him to read his favourite book for you?? Cool. Get you some tea?? He's on it. Give you some kisses?? He might need to get over the sudden boldness but he'll happily oblige.

Asmodeus

Mains as Princess Peach (the pink gold one tho yk) or a mii as himself.

Listen not to conform to the "pretty boys don't play video games" stereotype but he probably doesn't care all that much about the game.

Mostly wants to play to see you smiling and laughing as you have fun. That's when you're the most attractive after all.

Surprisingly likes rainbow road. (Sadistic idk what to tell you..) but also it is a pretty track, and he enjoys the colours.

Honestly he likes any tracks with bright colours and nice/fun music.

He's not that competitive, he went into the game knowing he wasn't going to be that good at it so he's just there to give you company.

After all the fun of it all he definitely asks if you want to come into his bathroom to unwind with him and relax.

Beelzebub

Mains as Donkey Kong

You're absolutely sitting in front of him in between his legs while he has his arms around you with his own controller.

There are so many snacks.

You're both pretty average at the game so it's honestly more like both of you trying to be as problematic to whoever is in 1st place as possible.

And having fun doing it.

He's always loved doing chill nights like this so having you to enjoy them with just makes them even better.

Will celebrate any and every victory by kissing your forehead and then offering you a snack while he begins eating his own, ignoring how flustered you might be.

Will apologise if he hits you with a blue shell even when you tell him "It’s part of the game Beel, don't worry"

Belphegor

Mains as Waluigi (Me, personally… as a Waluigi main I wouldn't let that slide)

Chaotic

Will cause problems on purpose.

If he ever overtakes you/hits you with an item/comes in first and you complain he will say something along the lines of "then get good" or "skill issue"

His behaviour makes you SUPER competitive but also makes playing the game with him super fun because of it.

It's also super fun to hit him with items and then overtake him last minute when he thinks he's going to win.

You probably don't play for that long and end up cuddling up for a nap together instead.
