#decades challenge lots

i recently reached 100 followers (ahhh!! thank you all so so much <3), and in celebration of this i'm releasing my very first lot!

as a historical simmer who isn't american, i'm always on the lookout for historical builds based in britain, so i thought i'd have a go at building some of my own!

this build is based on a traditional scottish highland croft, a type of smallholding that emerged after the highland clearances. the highland clearances took place in the north of scotland between 1750 and 1860, and saw highlanders moved from the land that their ancestors had lived on for generations. those that were left may have moved into crofting communities on poorer quality land.

my build consists of a two-room thatched house with a kitchen on one side of the building and chamber on the other side, along with small amounts of planting and grazing land (aka ridged beds and a barn in sims hehe). in the chamber i attempted a little box-bed (where the bed is enclosed within a wooden cupboard). i tried to make it cc free but @lilis-palace's folklore collections were too perfect!

BARBARA O'BABS hair salon & laundromat (Download Tray Files & CC)

Hello friends, long time no see! I'm about to move to Ireland within three weeks and to say I've been busy would be quite an understatement. However, I can always find myself some time to play The Sims 4 (especially when a new EP comes out) and I just HAD to try this new Businesses & Hobbies one, how are you guys enjoying it so far?

I created this beautiful mess of a woman named Barbara Salomon who smokes like a chimney and I'm absolutely OBSESSED with how stunning she looks:

Anyway, I decided she was gonna be a hairdresser and created a 1950s inspired hair salon & laundromant (because hey, why shouldn't those two mingle? lol) for her to thrive as a businesswoman. And so today, I bring you this charming little lot I've spent way too much time on for you to enjoy as well! Here are some screenshots:

Before you go ahead and download it into your game, a few IMPORTANT disclaimers:

The lot is a 20x15. I built it on the Old Torget House lot from the new world of Nordhaven.

I used items from several expansions and packs (sorry I couldn't list them below, I played offline while building it and taking the screenshots), so if you don't own them those items might be replaced with others.

This lot is set as Residential.

Like all my builds, this is a heavily CC based lot. If you don't have a powerful PC, it might get laggy while trying to play with it.

Regarding the CC, I do not own nor take credit from any item included within this lot. All credit goes to their amazing creators.

The .ZIP file (2.21 GB) includes two folders: one for the Tray Files and another one with all the CC. I'm 100% sure all the CC I used is already public for everyone; if it's not, it's been definitely longer than three weeks since it has all been in my game and you (the CC creator) shouldn't be putting content behind permanent paywalls to begin with ;)

I did use bb.moveobjects on while building and have playtested it, so it should be fully functional. Let me know if otherwise.

Lupine Cottage

A CC Free Victorian Beachside Cottage

Lot size: 20x20 Price: §40,013 Lot type: Residential Location: Bedlington Beachhouse, Brindleton Bay

This build will be familiar to all of you who have downloaded Antiquated Brindleton, where it's previously been released as a cc-lite build. This build is really no fun to play without Romantic Garden, so in honor of it being free to download I wanted to release a cc-free version of it. It also gave me the chance to refresh it with some of the new assets we've gotten since then, and it's turned out so well.

This lot is potentially my favorite build I've ever done and I'm so in love with how it's turned out here. Even if you have the previous one, I'd certainly give this version a try, because humbly; I think it's better.

I'm not sure how many of you will recognize this lot, or have already, but it's based off the cottage from the children's book Miss Rumphius, which tells the tale of the lupine lady who spreads lupine seeds along Maine's roadways in the early twentieth century. You can see the inspo pics below as well as a shot of lupines in Maine in the spring, where they really do look like someone rode around just throwing seeds as they went. I highly recommend the book for any history lovers the illustrations are beautiful.

Lupine's are unfortunately not native to Maine and are considered invasive, so loving them does come with a smidgen of guilt, but luckily we don't have that problem in Sims.

I picture this cottage as the perfect home for your loner, spinster characters, and that's exactly who lives there in my save. This lot is in some ways a love letter to Maine and Brindleton Bay as I see it. So please enjoy.

This build is appropriately furnished for the late nineteenth to early twentieth century; no indoor plumbing and lots of candles. It's really only suitable for one sim as built, but could probably be edited quite easily for a couple. Fully playtested.

Please, please, please tag me if you use this lot, it's got a special place in my heart.

I got a little inspiration from @lilsimsie to create a sort of 70s inspired home with the party essentials kit and I am actually pretty happy with how it turned out!

At a church perched on top of a hill in Henford-on-Bagley, Father Byron and Sister Eunice prepare for the wedding of one of their most beloved members. 

Sister Eunice spent all morning over the hot stove fixing up the meals for the reception, and perhaps more importantly, decorating the wedding cake.

While Sister Eunice worked in the kitchen, Father Byron practised his speech in the mirror until he felt it was perfect.

It was a glorious day for love, and both of them were ecstatic to be a part of it. After all, fewer things were better than the joining of two young people in love.

The ceremony was small and sweet. Only the groom’s father, who surprised everyone by showing up, and Sister Eunice sat in attendance. This was perfectly fine with the newlyweds; the bride in particular did not want a big spectacle and her groom was happy to oblige the request.

As the newlyweds exchanged their vows, Sister Eunice couldn't help herself becoming weepy. She had watched Winifred grow up in that church, and after all this time, she was happy to see her marry a good man.

United as one, I present Lawrence and Winifred Baudelaire, the founders of our legacy.

17th century timber-framed watermill with tavern, gardens, and rooms to rent.

One of my favorite books growing up was The Truth-Tellers Tale by Sharon Shinn. The main protagonists were twin girls with magic powers, but even more interesting than one twin being unable to lie while the other was only able to keep secrets, was their house: The parents owned and operated an inn! And it was such a great plot device for the story, with all sorts of people coming and going, enjoying the rooms, food, and drinks, bringing news and goods from far parts of the kingdom. It's no Leaf & Berry Inn, and there's no Truth-Tellers or Safe-Keepers in residence (yet), but I wanted it to have that same cozy, communal vibe the book always gave me, and a good opportunity for storytelling.

Originally made for a reddit build challenge, Olde Mill Inn is a Tudor rental residential with working watermill, quaint stone bridge, and four story tower.

Paths Decades Challenge SaveFile - 1890

As a historical simmer, the Decades Challenge is my favorite but building and organizing the worlds can be so tiring. That’s why I’ve started a NoCC Savefile to make things easier!

I’ve resurrected the original family and made them completely CC-free, even giving their original home a fresh 2025 revamp!

My plan for this save file is to dedicate each world to a specific decade, making it easy for anyone to create a family and drop them in. The entire save will be CC-free, but I’ll be using all the packs TS4 has to offer—so keep that in mind!

I hope this will be helpful to someone once it’s finished. :) The first world being worked on is 1890s Henford-on-Bagley

El Dorado Cabaret & Casino (Download Tray Files & CC)

Yes, I'm back to playing TS4 and that means I'm back to building. I created a sim called Octavia who used to be an exotic dancer (until she married money and started the black widow challenge), so I needed to have a Generic lot that worked as a cabaret/casino for gameplay purposes and I decided to build it from scratch. I'm now sharing it with you guys in case you also need something similar for your vintage 1920s/30s/40s save file.

The exterior is obviously inspired by the infamous El Dorado Berlin while the interior I kinda reimagined myself. Here are some screenshots:

This lot is designed to work as a Stripclub, therefore you'll be needing the Wicked Whims mod in order to obtain the pole and have your sims being able to dance for money.

In the Earl of Granite Falls' household, there was a grand birthday for his young twin boys. They were turning 5 years old today and as such were becoming children.

The famine made it so they couldn't have a feast - but they could still celebrate amongst themselves.

The boys each blew out birthday candles with their older siblings gathered around them, cheering and shouting hopple borfna.

Maybe the boys would remember this fondly, as a birthday that was more quaint and filled with love as opposed to the political affairs that they will be in the future.

1331 – Day 3 - Glennborough

Late one night, a few months after first meeting her neighbours, Mariora is awoken by sharp pain. She has given birth to so many children by now that she hardly even feels any fear or panic. She calmly wakes her son, slumbering beside her, and tells him to run into town to fetch the midwife, Moira’s cousin. Although she has done this often enough to be confident that she could deliver this child on her own, she doesn’t want to have to rely on Nicolas should something go awry.

Her son does so and duly returns with the young woman, Caitlin, who isn’t too surprised to see her managing her labour well. Not that her contractions are too close to each other, now – it will be a while before that. But Caitlin is a great help simply by looking after the younger children and calming young Nicolas, so Mariora can focus on the arrival of her new little one.

But the more the hours stretch on, the more of her previous calm begins to erode. It isn’t that anything is going wrong – her contractions gradually start to come at closer intervals, as they should, and she doesn’t feel anything unusual. But doubt creeps in.

What if she doesn’t survive this? What will happen to her children then? Moira, as sensitive as Mariora to the fact that giving life is deadly, has already promised to do what she can to make sure that her boys are well taken care of, but that is no guarantee. They are in a foreign country, far from any family, and have already lost their father. They will need all the protection they can get. But how is she supposed to give them that if she is dead?

Caitlin notices her fretting and tries to calm her, but the more the pain grows, the more desperate she becomes. She can’t die. She can’t die. Oh Watcher, please, let her live for her children.

Or so she prays when it is time to give birth. She knows she is praying aloud, but she doesn’t care. No matter how often she has done this, she can never get used to the pain of it.

Her voice is hoarse by the time her baby is finally out and nearly sobs with relief when she hears it cry. In all her anxiety for her other children, she has hardly thought about this one.

“It’s a girl!”, Caitlin’s voice calls out a few moments later. “A beautiful, healthy girl.”

Mariora can convince herself of that when Caitlin lays her daughter into her arms, and wants to laugh and cry at the same time when she sees the fine red hair covering her head. A final reminder of her husband, it seems. Had she had another boy, she would have named him Simon, to honour his father.

In the end, she decides to name her new daughter Siobhán. It’s somewhat similar to her father’s name and is at the same time common in the land where her daughter will grow up. Hopefully, that will serve her well in the future.

The day after his sister is born and it is clear that both she and his mother will survive the birth, Nicolas runs over the Brophy family’s hut to tell them the happy news. Moira immediately promises to bring over some food so Mariora can rest a little more, which Nicolas promises to relay to his mother.

Before he leaves again, he is drawn into a conversation with Eibhlín, the Brophy’s daughter. They are of the same age and have played together more than once now, when they weren’t busy helping their respective mothers around the house.

Apparently, she has heard some musicians while accompanying her father into town a few days ago, which she excitedly tells him about now. Her vivid descriptions make Nicolas wish he could have been there, and he smiles despite of himself. But all too soon, he has to say goodbye, to return home.

His mother is counting on him, and because he is the man of the house now, he doesn’t intend to let her down.

After she is back on her feet – which is soon after Siobhán’s birth – Mariora has little time for her older children. Elias and her new daughter take up most of her attention, much to the chagrin of her three other boys. At least they have each other, she tells herself. And Nicolas has been good about keeping an eye on his brothers.

Christopher finds other ways to entertain himself, too. As is the case with most young witches, his few toys are among the favourite targets of his magic, and he is utterly fascinated by making them disappear and reappear. Mariora tells him firmly never to do this when other people are present, but that doesn’t stop him when he is on his own.

He can’t know – not even his mother could tell him – that this is the very thing that alerted his paternal family to his father’s gifts so many years ago. A lifetime seems to have passed since then, but if she knew about that incident, even exhausted Mariora might smile at that inadvertent link to the past.
