croit bheag | a lot by silverseaming
i recently reached 100 followers (ahhh!! thank you all so so much <3), and in celebration of this i'm releasing my very first lot!
as a historical simmer who isn't american, i'm always on the lookout for historical builds based in britain, so i thought i'd have a go at building some of my own!
this build is based on a traditional scottish highland croft, a type of smallholding that emerged after the highland clearances. the highland clearances took place in the north of scotland between 1750 and 1860, and saw highlanders moved from the land that their ancestors had lived on for generations. those that were left may have moved into crofting communities on poorer quality land.
my build consists of a two-room thatched house with a kitchen on one side of the building and chamber on the other side, along with small amounts of planting and grazing land (aka ridged beds and a barn in sims hehe). in the chamber i attempted a little box-bed (where the bed is enclosed within a wooden cupboard). i tried to make it cc free but @lilis-palace's folklore collections were too perfect!
lot details
§23, 262 (i had to decorate a bit, sorry!)
30x20
uses item from horse ranch, cottage living, get together and vampires
simple living, off the grid
cc not included (please see cc list)
playtested to the best of my ability!
required cc
lili's palace folklore konyha part i
lili's palace folklore homestead set
lili's palace intarsia heirloom set
lili's palace folklore off the grid set
AmeyaSims better than a bush outhouse
psb old needlepoint samplers
thank you so much to the cc creators <3

Lupine Cottage
A CC Free Victorian Beachside Cottage
Lot size: 20x20 Price: §40,013 Lot type: Residential Location: Bedlington Beachhouse, Brindleton Bay
This build will be familiar to all of you who have downloaded Antiquated Brindleton, where it's previously been released as a cc-lite build. This build is really no fun to play without Romantic Garden, so in honor of it being free to download I wanted to release a cc-free version of it. It also gave me the chance to refresh it with some of the new assets we've gotten since then, and it's turned out so well.
This lot is potentially my favorite build I've ever done and I'm so in love with how it's turned out here. Even if you have the previous one, I'd certainly give this version a try, because humbly; I think it's better.
Background info and download under the cut:
I'm not sure how many of you will recognize this lot, or have already, but it's based off the cottage from the children's book Miss Rumphius, which tells the tale of the lupine lady who spreads lupine seeds along Maine's roadways in the early twentieth century. You can see the inspo pics below as well as a shot of lupines in Maine in the spring, where they really do look like someone rode around just throwing seeds as they went. I highly recommend the book for any history lovers the illustrations are beautiful.
Lupine's are unfortunately not native to Maine and are considered invasive, so loving them does come with a smidgen of guilt, but luckily we don't have that problem in Sims.
I picture this cottage as the perfect home for your loner, spinster characters, and that's exactly who lives there in my save. This lot is in some ways a love letter to Maine and Brindleton Bay as I see it. So please enjoy.
This build is appropriately furnished for the late nineteenth to early twentieth century; no indoor plumbing and lots of candles. It's really only suitable for one sim as built, but could probably be edited quite easily for a couple. Fully playtested.
Please, please, please tag me if you use this lot, it's got a special place in my heart.

The Venice Express (Download Tray Files & CC)
So I've been receiving a few DMs asking me whether my lots are up on The Gallery or somewhere else to be downloaded. To be more specific, my Grand Express (Columbia Station) Lot seems to be getting a lot of attention (which I'm so, so glad!).
As you may already know if you follow my Tumblr, my game and therefore my save file is kinda messed up ever since the last update (mostly my UI), so unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to share that lot with you guys. However, I've decided to create a brand new train from scratch and finally contribute somehow to this thriving historical Sims 4 community I'm loving so much. I may not have the talent to create CC myself, but as a former stylist I sure can put things others have created together to make 'em look nice lol. Without further delay, allow me to introduce you to The Venice Express!
Clearly inspired by the legendary and breathtaking Venice Simplon Orient-Express, the lot consists of a three wagon train (two of them with private cabins, the third one featuring a lounge bar and a small kitchen), a log cabin and a recreation area with a wooden arbor. Here are some screenshots:
Private cabins (they're all practically equal):
Lounge bar wagon/kitchen:
Log cabin:
Before you go ahead and download it into your game, a few IMPORTANT disclaimers:
The lot is a 50x50. If you want the enviroment to look just like my screenshots, make sure to place it in the big lot on top of the hill on Mount Komorebi.
I use ReShade in all my screenshots, so lighting/colors may vary from what it looks like on your game.
I used items from a few expansions and packs (listed in picture below), so if you don't own them those items might be replaced with others.
Like all my builds, this is a heavily CC based lot. If you don't have a powerful PC, it might get laggy while trying to play with it.
Regarding the CC, I do not own nor take credit from any item included within this lot. All credit goes to their amazing creators.
The .ZIP file (3.19 GB) includes two folders: one for the Tray Files and another one with all the CC. I'm 100% sure all the CC I used is already public for everyone; if it's not, it's been definitely longer than three weeks since it has all been in my game and you (the CC creator) shouldn't be putting content behind permanent paywalls to begin with ;)
I did use bb.moveobjects on while building and have NOT playtested it, so you might have to move some items for them to be functional.
The lot is currently set as a Residential, but you can certainly change it to anything else... including a Residential Rental and perhaps making each cabin a different apartment.
That's all for me! This is the very first piece of content I share for others to download, so if you run into any kind of issues do not hesitate to let me know and I'll try to help best I can :)
If you do like it, please make sure to like this post (maybe even comment on it if you feel kind enough!) and please, please, PLEASE do tag me on your screenshots if you share them here on Tumblr. I'd love to see what you guys make with it!

Enjoy ♡

There wasn't much left to cover for the 1890's and I have decided to go ahead and say goodbye to the decade by wrapping things up in one swoop instead of a bunch of individual posts. Also, I apologise for how crappy some of these photos look on mobile so viewing from a desktop is probably best.
And with that, we are officially heading into the 1900's!

Transcript Below The Cut!
Dear Diary, It has been too long since I’ve written, I know, even if it’s only for my eyes. The last six years have passed me by and I have no record of my life to show for it. So, I will vow it on this New Years Day to be better at it starting right now! And I will begin by recounting the last few years with the hope that someday, I can look back on these times with fondness. So much has happened, some splendid, some grim, but that’s the way life always goes, isn’t it? A constant upheaval, tossing you around from one thing to the next so abruptly; even the good changes can feel violent sometimes. And yet, I endure it; maybe I have even taken to embracing it. Life is funny that way, hm? Now, the last six years, well, where do I begin?
In 1894, Lawrence opened the funeral home. It was a little ironic, considering Valerie passed away that same year. She had been hiding her failing liver before we moved out to Windenburg, and passed on with her brother at her side. Beth and Oisin traveled to Wales together to attend the funeral; Lawrence, however, could not come away from work.
1895 was a much better year for our family We began it with Beth & Oisin's wedding! But little did we know, the best was yet to come...the birth of our Alison Aurora! Our family has never felt more complete but they could not be more different from each other; each of them unique in their own way. Oscar is our wild child, always in search of some sort of adventure. It’s as though he lives for being outdoors and running around; playing in mud and splashing in puddles. I believe he is the most like his father out of the three, a social butterfly with an inability to sit still. Our sweetheart, Atticus, is curious like his brother but reclusive like his mother. He is often shy and timid, but seems to have taken a real interest in nature, and I find him off in the garden often, studying the flowers and admiring their colours. We are alike in many ways, and spend the most time together; he was also to hardest to wean from my breast. Alison, or Rory as I call her, or ‘goofy girl’ as Lawrence calls her, has her father wrapped around her little finger. She like to keep us on our toes with her silliness; she loves to do funny dances when we play music on the phonograph. And, she has no problems keeping up with her brothers!
As for myself, well, my dearest diary, I am happy to say that I am now a working woman! I am a secretary for a local newspaper started by an Irishman.
all in all, i think we are very happy

Keep thinking about how time in Frieren is measured in years since Himmel's death. The fact that at this point in the anime, he's been dead far longer than Frieren travelled with him, and yet, that's still how she relates time to this world.
#I have some thoughts about flamme and himmel and the space they both occupy for frieren but as an anime-only I'm being cautious.#I do think the stuff with the 'ghost' though implies a lot. flamme had been dead for so long and yet she was who frieren saw the first time#it took frieren that long to get attached enough to make a connection strong enough to challenge the one she had with flamme.#but she still speaks of the quest time as being a 'mere' decade. I think both flamme and himmel understood her better than she did herself#anyway yeah for now I'm sticking with the anime. let's see how long I last before swapping to the manga.#frieren#oh also. using the time since his death is so neat from a meta perspective. bc we have these new humans + every time the years appear#you're reminded that they too are subject to the passage of time in a way that frieren isn't.

Chez Cromwell: Redux - Pt. 1
Magical Victorian Cat Mansion. Redone.
Part I: Exteriors | Part II
So after the long-awaited addition of Infants and Ceilings to the game, I realized I should probably update my one furnished build (so far) for these features. Unfortunately I got carried away again and just ended up revamping the whole build from the exterior, to each individual room + some new ones! This version has also been more extensively play-tested over time with all age groups and pets, with some extra fire hazard and accessibility issues addressed.
It still has all the original Lot Features:
Victorian era historical build, fully playtested
Off-the-grid compatible
9 Bed / 6 bath
Library Greenhouse
Spellcaster's room
Outdoor smokehouse
Pleasure + kitchen gardens
Portal to the magic realm
Hidden cat room, litterroom, + catway system for Familiars
Staff/Servant's lounge w/ private stairs
Bedrooms for Butler, Nanny/Governess, and Maids
Lot size 30x40, fully landscaped
Cat Hangout, Peace and Quiet
Spooky lot challenge
As well as an extensive Changelog and list of New Features:
Revamped exteriors + interiors, roofs, and gardens
Ceilings for all rooms
Added even more windows somehow
Skylights for 3rd floor and wraparound verandah
Rooftop meditation-garden-yoga-summoning-circle
Portals! Small library located off the spell-room has been converted into the Portal Room with 3 portals leading throughout the house: one to the tower on the roof, one to the greenhouse in the back, and one to the third floor hall.
Moved Magic Realm Portal to rooftop garden
Put more cat doors everywhere, they enjoy using the catdoors and portals for zoomies
Sprinklers, alarms, and fire resistant flooring have been added around fireplaces.
Fireplace in the tower was removed for it's propensity to set the roof on fire and become unreachable and inextinguishable
Tower room has been converted into a Collections display room instead, a la sims 3
Portal in the tower/Collections room also makes potential burglaries more threatening, but if you’re an occult you’re expected to employ practical DADA techniques to avert this
Updated Nursery and Playroom for Infants
Redid terrain paint. Twice. Why tf does it just vanish randomly sometimes
NEW Magic Bean Hunt! Stump is located where the magic realm portal used to be and beans are strategically hidden around the lot. I'd love to see how long it takes for you to catch them all!
Washbasins for rooms without bathrooms now look like washbasins and are actually useable, both on and off grid
Added privacy hedges and lattices to backyard and fenced in chicken run
Potions Crafting Table added to Spell-room
Crafters Supply Cabinet added to Kitchen
Pocketed pocket doors
Secret Cat Room color scheme updated and cat-approved artwork added
Another Cat room added to 3rd floor
Magic Well has been shrunk
Rooftop area outside 3rd floor Study converted into rooftop Pavilion with chessboard and painting easel
Jack-and-Jill bathroom added for two of the third floor bedrooms
Toilet room removed and bath added for staff washrooms, for an equal 2-toilet/2-bath arrangement, which means the build now has a total of 7 full baths, and 8 toilets.
More crafting tables (fizz machine and candle maker) added to Staff Lounge
Yoga/Meditation Balcony for staff above greenhouse
Small telescope added to rooftop outside tower room’s new 2nd door
Garden lights around yard configured for power + off grid lighting
‘Bike racks’ added by front gate
New Library shelves seem to allow sims to retrieve books but not put them back. However this is actually a feature, not a bug, since now you can put the books back yourself on on the right shelves and keep things organized 🙃
Should now be consistently able to feed and be eaten by the Cowplant
Homey trait replaced by Gnome lot trait since there is a proliferation of gnomes
Requirements
Lot: 40x30, $752,005, 9 bed 8 bath, Cat Hangout, Gnome, Peace and Quiet, Spooky Lot Challenge
Packs - packs in bold are essential:
EPs - Cottage Living, University, Island Living, Get Together, Get Famous, Seasons, Cats&Dogs, Eco Living, City Living, Get to Work
GPs - Realm Of Magic, Jungle Adventure, Parenthood, Vampires. Strangerville, Spa Day, Outdoor Retreat
SPs - Paranormal, Laundry Day, Romantic Garden. Nifty Knitting, Vintage Glamour

February 13th, 1931, Henford-on-Bagley, England
Byron’s 36th birthday passed without much fanfare. It felt cruel to throw a party, and he was expected to be in London the next day regardless. The dinner was small, and the cake was nothing more than a plain pound cake. It felt odd celebrating for some reason, though Byron couldn’t discern why.
After dinner, Eleora brought him to her art studio, old servant rooms whose walls had been knocked down. She spent much of her free time there, like how Byron spent most of his extra time in the library and office. She had her paints, and he had his books. It looked much cleaner/emptier than it normally was, mostly due to Eleora holding an exhibition soon in Liverpool.
“You really thought I didn’t have a birthday gift?”
“Well, I said I did not want anything.”
“I don’t care,” she replied, gesturing to a large painting on the wall featuring Simon-Elliot and Amalia.
“...Eleora. It’s lovely.” He turned to face her, smiling. “It’s our children.”
“Indeed it is, darling. You would not believe how difficult it was to get them to stay in that pose.”
He chuckled. “And how did you do it?”
“I took a photograph.”
“Smart.”
“Did you name the painting?”
“Lord Simon-Elliot and Lady Amalia Walsh, 1931. Not very original.”
“No, I like it. Very direct,” he mused, leaning over to kiss his wife.
She giggled. “Perhaps we should take this to our room.”
“Too far,” he grumbled.
A knock quickly broke the couple apart, they looked to see Montgomery standing in the doorway. Byron hadn’t failed to notice that today was the first time his Scottish friend wore dining clothes since before Samira had died.
“I was wonderin’ where ya two scuttled off to.”
“Eleora painted our children as a birthday present.”
The former doctor nodded, stepping into the art studio and staring at the painting. “Where has time gone?” He muttered to himself quietly.
Eleora stared at Byron, a quizzical look forming on her face. He knew her too well to not know what she wanted. “Montgomery?”
He looked up. “Sorry. I interrupted ya. Good night.”
“Wait,” Byron said, stepping forward. “...Would you like to stay?”
The Scotsman frowned, almost uncomfortable, but Eleora stepped forward and took his hands gently.
“When was the last time someone touched you, Montgomery? Held you?” She stood on her toes and kissed his forehead, as Byron smiled sadly and offered his hand out.
“You are cared for, you know, even if it is not romantic love,” he said slowly, watching as the former doctor’s eyes canvased a thousand emotions.
Finally, he reached out and took Byron’s hand, simply nodding his head. “Alright.”

i love when posts about having sex with friends or public sex or whatever end up on my dash and it turns into an argument about hookup culture or conservative ideas of sex and its like. there were full sex communes in the woods in the 60s/70s. adults married with kids were having key parties and shit. before the aids epidemic disco clubs and bathhouses existed with casual public sex i just find it so quaint to think tinder or college hookups or onlyfans even comes close to the visibility or prevalence of the sexual revolution. most young people are having significantly less sex than the previous generations! idk i feel like this contextualization always gets left out regardless of what side of the discussion you are on
#really ahistorical. its akin to refusing to acknowledge in the midst of true crime mania that murder has significantly decreased#in the last several decades. something which obv comes up a lot to challenge the fearmongering about catastrophic random violence#my posts

The next morning, their work truly began to pick up. They were officially on a tight schedule, and Lucile found herself entirely focused on Josephine's needs.
Their current situation was far from ideal, especially now that they were aware of the baby on the way.
Lucile knew that the cramped wagon was not suitable for an expectant mother.
Determined to improve their circumstances, she dug out the old, albeit slightly worn, camping tent she had used when her father took her camping as a teen.
Surprisingly, instead of the worry she had expected, Lucile felt fluttering pangs of excitement. The idea of becoming an aunt was overwhelming, even considering the complicated circumstances.
All she could think about was how much she loved Josie and how she would raise the child as if they were her own.
She didn’t want to be angry or sad anymore. For years, their lives had been nothing but family turmoil. They both had endured so much, and Lucile longed to move beyond that and create something beautiful.
This was their chance for a fresh start. Lucile knew Josephine's upbringing had been starkly different from her own.
While she couldn’t give her everything she desired, she loved her enough to dedicate her entire heart and soul to trying.

✿ Old Windenburg townhouses ✿ cc free
i'm arranging an early 1900s version of Windenburg for my save, and I thought I would start with this townhouse lot inspired by this miniature i found on pinterest.
lot type: residential rental (3 rentals)
size: 30×20
lot traits: convival, great soil, homey and mold (same for all rentals)
CC free, but i do own all the packs.
✿ Download tray files (sfs, no ads) ✿
more details and screenshots under the cut!
✿✿✿
There's a total of 3 fully furnished rentals on the lot: one for 1 or 2 sims, one for 3 sims, and one for up to 3 sims and an infant.
There's also a gardening spot, bonsai tree and woodworking table included for shared use. For (my) convenience's sake, i've included indoor plumbing and (minimal) electrical lighting, but feel free to change that according to your play style/rules!
Remember to place with the bb.moveobjects cheat on! I originally built it on the lot where The Narwhal arm bar is.
If you use it on your game and share it please tag me so i can see! Any changes to the structure and decor of the lot for your gameplay is totally fine, as long as you don't claim it as your own build.

Photo
London, 1894
Kenneth Jr.
Typically, I do not entertain Thomas’ attempts to rope me into his role-playing games, but he promised this one would be much different from the rest — he even requested I refer to him as Thomas! Well, “Detective” Thomas, but he declared that, as his brother and soon-to-be Watson, the title would be unnecessary from me. Regardless, though the pomp he desires surrounding the game may be par for the course, I find the concept behind it makes it a silly means towards a most serious and important end: helping Mother!
(He agreed I would be Holmes, though. Being an elder brother comes with its occasional perks to balance out the numerous burdens.)
We arrived at four possibilities:
1. Pauline. We do not want this to be true. If she is to blame, we have reasoned it would likely be the result of a horrible accident, but there is always the chance that we perhaps do not know as much of her character as we claim to. Her scar belies the possibility of an uneventful life before this one.
2. Nana. Though Nana and Mother have their difficulties, she is a proper lady of our station, and it seems terribly unlikely that she would intentionally do something so classless. We are biased in the sense that we love her very much, but we are aware of that — the first step towards over-coming any bias.
3. “The Stranger.” This is the possibility that the culprit is someone outside the house; they need not actually be a “stranger” as the name implies, but we found ourselves becoming rather partial to the term.
4. “Trust No One” — I have included this only for Thomas’ benefit. He insists that we must be prepared for the unlikely chance that one of us is to blame and is deceiving the other. “It’s always the man you would suspect least of all!” he declares.

Dearest Marmee,
I must thank you once again for recommending the tickets to the theatre. We have been home about a month now and my wife has not stopped gushing about it to anyone who will listen. I knew she had the soul of a poet but I could have never guessed how much that evening would mean to her.
We were the last to arrive, nearly missing the admissions, as we had stopped off to have our portrait taken there in London. But after all, how could we miss the opportunity to be photographed in our finest clothes, and so in my opinion anyway, we were only fashionably late!
I will admit only to you, some of the play went above my head, but my Winifred, oh how she laughed throughout the entirety of the performance. She understands things like this you see, and I suppose your Jo is likely the same; I think it is something engrained in all the great writers of the world to be able to understand why the curtains are yellow and not blue.
And boy, does my wife admire Mr. Wilde. She truly believes he will go down in history as one of the greats. She is very fond of all his work, and she suspects we should expect more excellence out of him before his career is finished.
Despite feeling a little out of my depth, I enjoyed myself all the same, especially after Winifred explained that the play mocks the wealthy in subtle ways. Mr. Tree, the gentlemen who played Lord Illingworth, is a galant man taking a slap from Mrs. Arbuthnot that way; how the sound of the sting echoed throughout the entire hall! I was downright shocked, and my wife in stitches, finding it absolutely hilarious.
At once the show finished, and as Mr. Tree and Mrs. Beere took their bows, everyone cheered for their outstanding talent, and I do believe my wife applauded harder than anyone else in that audience. The show was a treasure, and I trust it will be remembered for generations to come. However, what I will remember most, is my Winifred.
And while everyone marveled at the actors, I couldn’t keep from marveling at my wife instead. Her beauty, her cleverness, her whimsical laughter and dazzling smile, and most of all, her natural aptitude to understand the work...aside from the day we wed, I can't think of a time she has ever appeared more beautiful to me, or more herself.
It was though she belonged there, amongst others who appreciate literature, and my, I can't help thinking what it would be like to sit in that theatre and see her work performed on the stage instead.
I had hoped that our viewing of ‘A Woman of No Importance’ would give her the confidence she needs to be published. It would truly be a shame for the world not to know her work; I encourage gently, but she is stubborn, you see and hardly allows me to read it. She does not recognize her own talent.
Since we've been home though, I have found her early in the morning, asleep at her typewriter more times than I can count. So at the very least, I am pleased to see her passion burning inside once again. Now...if I could only find a way to ignite it.
Yours Sincerely, Lawrence
