rope dart wednesday 02 - neck turns (very scuffed)
well i waited too long and missed the daylight, but here's some rope dart anyway!
today i'm doing neck turns, so lets talk about rope dart stances. for elbow turns and many other moves, i stand with one foot in front of the other, with the dart spinning to one side, in a plane parallel to the direction i'm facing. i will call this alley stance:

for this move, however, i stand with my feet spread apart and spin the dart in front of me, perpendicular to the direction i'm facing. i call this wall stance:

just like an elbow turn is used to pass the dart to either side of me while i'm in alley stance, a neck turn lets me turn around so the dart is on the other "side" of me (relative to where i am standing) in wall stance.
to achieve this, i dip my head into the path of the dart and bring my arm up to the back of my neck (which is the pivot point for this move). i look straight down at my feet. when i see the dart come into view beneath me, i make a half turn and land facing the opposite direction. the dart, which was about to try to wrap around my neck, is still spinning the same way due to conservation of angular momentum, so it promptly unwraps instead.
unlike alley stance, where i have to spin the dart downwards in order to do a turn, in wall stance i can spin the dart either to my left or to my right (obviously it moves in a circle so its going both left and right- i'm talking about the direction it's traveling when it's closest to the ground.)
when the dart is spinning to the left, i can either pivot on my left foot, bringing my right foot in front of me, to advance to the right- or i can pivot on my right foot, bringing my left foot around behind me, to retreat to the left. in the video, you can see me alternating between advancing and retreating to stay in frame (and keep from knocking holes in my wall)

some final notes:
these neck turns are pretttttty bad :[ you can see the dart go out of plane a lot and start spinning diagonally, which happens when the turn was sloppy.
i'm bending over more than i should. ideally i stand as straight as possible and only bend slightly at the waist to bring my neck into the dart's plane.
it's also good to have a little more rope than i'm using- the dart should almost touch the ground as its spinning- but i had to rein it in a little in such a cramped space. maybe tomorrow i'll record some cleaner ones outside

Quand je passe la section musique du journal Bruzz, quand je n’arrive pas à ouvrir le magazine Larsen, quand je me désabonne des pages artistes de personnes qui me sont pourtant chères ou quand j’écris à un organisateur pour le supplier de ne pas m’inviter à l’évènement Facebook auquel j’ai été déprogrammée faute de moyens, je constate les signaux d’alerte. Il est donc temps d’aborder la question de la santé mentale.
Outre l’extrême difficulté que j’ai à trouver des concerts depuis l’ère post-Covid, il faut ajouter à cela 30 années de musique faites de micro-agressions à caractère sexiste, auxquelles s’ajoutent depuis peu des micros-agressions de type âgiste (coucou SCIVIAS, ne serait-il pas temps d’aborder cette question?).
La réalité, c’est que pour maintenir des allocations de chômage non dégressives, il me faudra trouver 78 concerts sur 36 mois. Cela n’a peut être l’air de rien comme ça mais trouver en moyenne 2 concerts par mois s’est avéré impossible jusqu’à présent. En comptabilisant les concerts depuis novembre 2022, j’arrive même à un déficit accumulé de 7 dates. Arrivent les mois d’été où je ne joue pas ou peu, cette période étant dédiée aux festivals, évènements auxquels on a rarement accès lorsqu’on se charge soi-même du booking. D’où un déficit estimé à 11 dates d’ici septembre 2023.
Je suis partante pour diversifier mes activités artistiques mais on ne s’improvise pas tour manager ou coach scénique en un claquement de doigts. Je fais partie de la scène DIY et dans ce milieu riche en belles expériences mais fauché en matière de budget, j’ai organisé de nombreux évènements sans jamais être rémunérée. Il me sera donc difficile de faire appel à ce réseau pour obtenir des contrats de travail.
Alors que faire? Renoncer à tenter de maintenir le quota de dates requis et risquer de tomber dans une certaine précarité en octobre 2025 (échéance du renouvellement du statut d’artiste)? Ou bien persévérer et risquer de cramer? Je ne peux pas me permettre le luxe d’un long délai de réflexion.
