"Stillborn? No, still born" Danyal au -- VLAD MASTERS THE BITCH HIMSELF

*Points at Vlad* THIS MFER GOT SOME TEEFS TO HIM. !! Okay okay, Vlad Masters in the stillborn au is different compared to most of my other aus in the fact that I am far more heavily leaning into his original ambitions of wanting a family and being desperately lonely. Because you know what wanting a family implies? Wanting to be a parent.

Fucked up father figure that could've been Vlad. Complicated love-hate relationship between the only two halfas in existence.

Danny hates Vlad, but he hates even more that he's genuinely considered his offers of mentorship. Vlad is the only halfa around, and they both have fire cores. Danny has these powers he doesn't understand, can barely comprehend some days, and can't control. But Vlad does. Vlad can. And Vlad wants to help him. He's the only other person who can get close whenever Danny runs too hot. Whenever his igneous hair cracks, splits, and spits back out into magma and his friends can't get close, Vlad can.

His hair is made of magma, which runs so hot that people need specialized suits in order to get near it. He physically cannot get close to the living as a ghost unless he's calm enough for his hair to cool into igneous rock. Which isn't as often as he would like. And sometimes he's too hot for other ghosts to get near unless they have fire cores -- which Vlad has.

There have been many times when Danny's having a meltdown (literally) and gone somewhere to be alone, to let his anger and hurt and loneliness overflow and spill out, that when he's come back to, Vlad's right there with him as an anchor. It's desperately frustrating, it's the only time they can get along. They don't say anything, Danny just turns and clings onto the only person he can touch as a ghost.

Its not fair. Vlad wants to kill his foster dad, and Danny can't let him do that. But he wants to be trained by the man, he wants his help and wants what he can offer. But Vlad can't step away from his revenge long enough to let him. It's just not fair. He thinks for a moment that maybe it could work, and then Vlad does something to remind him that no, it can't.

Vlad Masters sees too much of himself in Daniel Brown -- from the way he holds himself, to the defenses he puts up, his quiet anger that builds and builds and builds until it explodes. That simmers beneath his skin. All the way down to the fact that they have matching cores. This boy is cut from the same cloth as him, and by god does he want to help him. He's always wanted to be a father, and Daniel Brown is too much like him for him to ignore. He genuinely, truly cares about Danny and his wellbeing.

He wants to help him, child just let him help you. Let him kill your foster dad so he can adopt you himself and help with these powers that terrify and intrigue you -- he knows what that's like to have something that you can't control, to have a heat that you can't cool down from. "We're in the same boat you and I, let him help you please."

But his methods are all wrong, and Danny is too much like him -- stubbornness and all -- for him to agree when they oppose each other so greatly. But again, Danny is much like him -- which means that Vlad is equally stubborn, and in every single one of their fights he's parental. He's annoyingly parental. He drops his interest in Maddie to focus his efforts in trying to coax Danny onto his side. It's like trying to get a traumatized cat to trust you, and on some levels it works. It's like he makes some progress, and then moves too quickly and the cat immediately runs off and you have to start back from square one.

TL:DR; Vlad and Danny both want to find family in each other but they're too different to get along and ultimately they are doomed by the narrative to be at constant odds with one another unless one of them is changes, and it doesn't matter who.

[Robin’s classmate couldn’t help but relax as he clung to Oscar and the warmth that emanated from him, both tangible and not. He might’ve looked scary to begin with but he’d shown Levi more sympathy and compassion in the last five minutes than he’d received from his own family in the last few years] … Oscar: Aren’t you supposed to be retired? Sidney: Aren’t you lucky I’m not! Oscar: Oh, for sure.. heaven forbid another doctor do the exact same job as you. [Sidney scoffed incredulously] Oscar: Really though… Sidney: I’m not bloody well dead yet! I just cover a few casual shifts here n’ there is all. Oscar: Hm-.. better get this guy home n’ properly dry, anyway. Sidney: Yeah, he’ll be alright-.. y’know he’s just as reckless as you, right? Robin: Uh, I’m still here. Oscar: I hear ya! Sid unfortunately has a point though, you shouldn’t-… Robin: Don’t try n’ save someone in oceans or rivers ‘cause the current will get you both, blah blah-.. pools don’t count! Sidney: He’s a smartass like you too.

Rereading Eleceed to catch up (which, if you haven’t read I highly recommend) and just got done with the arc with jiwoo’s mom and her whole workplace debacle and there’s a question that’s just been nagging at me.

Who the hell is Jiwoo’s dad???

I mean, we all love to joke about how Kayden and Kartien adopted him because of how protective they are of him (plus they act like a divorced couple that got remarried for “tax benefits”) but we’ve never seen Jiwoo’s actual dad. Even in flashbacks it’s only ever his mom. Is he dead? Absent? Something else?? Idk I’m curious because I’m assuming that Awakened powers are hereditary (given the several families of awakened ones we see) so his powers are likely from his dad’s side. And if he is around why didn’t he tell jiwoo or his mom about his powers??

Idk I’m curious and have nothing better to do.

In the SID headquarters, the blinds are drawn over the [windows] of the office that Zhao Yunlan still thinks of as his father’s. He hadn’t done more than drop off his jacket that morning, before he’d been called out for the end of their current case. His wallet is in there, his smokes too. He had meant to buy [the victim] flowers, he thinks. It’s the least he can do, so he has to do it. So he has to go in there.

A foolish part of him still thinks that he will walk in and his father will be there behind the desk, sitting and immersed in his work. He’ll look up at the door, and he’ll frown when he sees that the person who has darkened his doorway is his son. He’ll close the lid of his laptop, not all the way, just enough to make the point that Zhao Yunlan is distracting him from his work, and ask, Don’t you have anywhere else to be? Don’t you have anything better to be doing? Zhao Yunlan can hear it now, the exhausted [lilt] of his father’s voice as he says, What do you want, Yunlan? Can’t you see that I’m busy?

Zhao Yunlan presses the door open in silence, and stops. One foot in the room and the other still in the hall.

See, what seems to be a million years ago, now, Anna's son brought home his roommate from college for Thanksgiving. He had told them all that Matt was different, whispered hushed through the phone, that he didn't come from anywhere nor have anywhere to return to, and that it had taken days of embarrassing pleading on his part to get Matt to even reluctantly agree to the visit. So Anna had said okay, honey, sounds good, and then she'd hung up the phone and worried with her husband as to what exactly it was that Foggy was bringing home with him. (What it was, was this: A kid, mop-haired and shy, mumbling please and thank you and offering to clean the dishes and jerking with surprise every time her husband clapped him on the shoulder.) (What it was, was this: Anna's third son.) She remembers Foggy telling her about Matt's--disappearance, the first time. She'd kept making an extra serving of dinner and dessert, just in case he returned, and eventually, he had. A bit quieter than before, a bit sadder, but whole. She doesn't remember Foggy telling her about Matt's second disappearance. Her own hands had been gritty with dust, or ash, or whatever it was they called it. She'd watched her husband crumble to pieces between her palms and then she had to open the front door to tell her son that his father was gone, only to find out that her other son was gone, too. And yet. And yet. Her husband is here again, and Matt is-- Matt is sitting at her kitchen table, socked feet tucked up beneath him, Foggy at one shoulder and Karen at the other, and he's saying please and thank you and offering to clean the dishes and it's like no time has passed at all, even though so much of it has. She passes her fingers through his hair as she sets their plates on the table. He doesn't flinch, not anymore. Instead, his body leans into the touch, and remains.

Day 9: Memories

Gwen after her first concert, walking home with Sid Fret and their dad. Their dad also performed, so Gwen is in a very good mood.

Also, made Sid Fret her older brother and he is the best older brother. That isn’t something new though, it might just be something I forgot to actually put anywhere.
